#Reduce the impact of idle/afk gaming

My proposal is to finally address the elephant in the room, which is idle/afk meta. Medivia is evolving and more fast-paced, but it still promotes the toxic, mobile style of gaming.

Multiple runemakres across many worlds, multiple game clients, 16h+ online time with 0 actual playtime, people using virtual desktops on their phones to maintain runemakes. Not to mention the fomo of not being a part of that wagon, especially if you see even 700+ lvls 'afk-play' 24/7, fake player numbers etc.

So my proposal is to rework the idle gaming, by for example reworking the training formulas (drastically reduce skill gains from dummies/attacking monsters without gaining exp while increasing the gains from normal hunts) and some changes to runemaking (this one is more difficult, maybe daily rune cap per account, but it can be discussed further in this thread).

My proposal is to start the discussion. There are likely many different ways to approach this issue.

Reduce skill gain from training in dummies, isn't the best approach, as dummy is sold for this matter, stay there for, hours training the skills.

For rune makers it could make sense, but as I'm not making runes at all, I won't give my opinion on this.

For example, I can keep a second desktop on while I'm working and training my skills, not necessary that I need to be gaining experience for this. I paid for the dummy, and it is doing what is supposed to do, train my skills while I can't technically hunt and get xp

People like to see progress while they are working, which most of us do. Also how would it be balanced around the players that already trained until like skill 150 or something?

There is also the issue with the training stations, that they will surely not remove or change much, since all suggestions about changes to the system were completely ignored since day 1

training stations were meant to lower the distance between afk gamers and normies but sadly there is no way to train using ingame gold so the problem persists. Goblets are not tradable and skins required to craft them are seperated into too many lvl brackets making them unreasonably hard to trade with which demotivates people to even bother.

I dont have all the knowledge, but I dont see this working for skilling. Knights and archers rely on skills to make hunting more profitable/fun, so making it even harder to gain skills would be a big demotivation to play knights/archers imo.

I think the discussion should be if a program like virtual desktops is legal or not. Some years ago I can recall a discussion if virtual desktops were a form or cheating or not, but havent followed that conversation.

Rule 3B clearly says; Use of Unauthorized Software, Modification of Official Software, or Pretending to Cheat
Altering or manipulating the official game client, using unofficial software to gain unfair advantages, abusing game mechanics, or intentionally pretending to cheat to mislead staff members.

You do realize this is a rpg and not a hunting simulator, right? People are free to do whatever they want.

It is legal because it is only remote access to my computer and does not violate the rules you mentioned in any way. It just allows me to access my computer from anywhere in the world. You might as well ask whether you should be banned for taking laptop from home to work to make runes/training.

Getting back to the topic, I don't think it matters when runes can be bought with real money. Besides, the developer wants more players online, so I think the topic will be ignored.

I think having stamina is already enough. Even if someone multitasks runemakers 24/7, it does not provide that big of an advantage, even on low-rate servers. Even if - just let them be, it is their choice to sacrifice their time and effort. I played some modern MMOs and Medivia is still doing great with not having "FOMO mechanics".

Well I'm interested to hear what devs think about this. It is a controversial topic because makers bring some revenue, the question is if it's even that much not to take a look at this issue.

Idle meta is pretty much the same thing as no stamina/no boost limits, just of lesser magnitude.

@vestal niche i find your post incredibly egoistic... in what shape or form u get affected by what the ppl does with their free time? one of the things i like of this game is the fact i can stay online in order to progress on my skills and also get some advantage by cooking my own runes and not because of that i will ask the devs to develop the game around that game style.... if u are a casual player who can't stay online during the whole day like me (for example) Medivia has methods to don't let u fall behind, so i can't understand why u think there is a "elephant on the room" or why something must be changed

Dude most of my free time i spend with my daughter and wife, also i work in delegations quite often like lets say 3/4 of a month, i do like what 20lvls/couple months at 250lvl~, so i pay for a dummy to train at least, i dont have much time to play so let some ppl take their time and enjoy the game

I on the other hand think we have too few afk/idle mechanisms to benefit our characters. It makes little to no difference for others that I make some runes. I know it may differ for low rates but still I kind of enjoy I can slowly progress while in afk.

The idea was to shift the benefits from the idle meta to the active playstyle meta, not to take away anything from 'standard model' players.

I'm not against a little progression while doing some daily rl chores or whatever. What I dislike are situations where you go though a city or a certain place and you see these characters that have sat in that 1 sqm for years, 20h/day. Literally feels like a bot factory.

Everything is a matter or perspective. To me, the idle meta and literally 0 restrictions on it are too much. I may have communicated it not delicately enough and scared some people, but I took my time and checked persons downvoting this thread and to no surprise most of them are ~18h+ afkers.

Anyway, it's a proposal like any other. If it gathers enough attention and acceptance from devs I hope some steps will be taken to reduce the impact of this toxic progression system (also it isn't environmental-friendly :3). If not, whatever.

Ah yes, the afk "meta", where they can afk the whole day and will make less than you dropping 1 item in a hunt.
I'm tired of people making feedback posts that will benefit mainly themselves. Worse yet when they start stalking people that don't agree with them.
