oblique thistle
#

Damn that's late af

#

But sure I can probably do that lol

coarse mesa
oblique thistle
#

Alright finished it

#

@coarse mesa you here?

coarse mesa
oblique thistle
#

Bet, lemme make the arena

#

arena is 21Y42/123

coarse mesa
#

Ok

oblique thistle
#

Wow my di

coarse mesa
#

I dont like having to spam like that bruh

oblique thistle
#

Well it's a choice you make

#

to spam like that

#

love it when my controller decides not to let me dash to the right

#

Lots of missed grabs there

#

i see what you mean by having to rely on your specials a lot

#

You seem to not really have a good understanding of how his regular attacks work

#

Cause the moment you don't have a special, you struggle to get in and win

coarse mesa
#

Ive been playing the game for a year and only using mii brawler specials

oblique thistle
#

yeah maybe doing that for a year has taught you to rely on it

#

Besides your lack of the regular moves, you also really love your high recoveries

#

That's due to you not having a lot of confidence going low because brawler up b isn't the best in terms of distance it covers

#

So you try to go high with side b and in turn you don't grab ledge and get punished for it

#

Do you have a button for a jump btw?

#

Like is x or y jump for you? or both

coarse mesa
#

I only use y as the jump

oblique thistle
#

what controller do you use?

coarse mesa
#

I have to use x as grab cuz the original grab button on my controller dont work

oblique thistle
#

ohhhh

coarse mesa
oblique thistle
#

pro controller, gamecube controller, or joy cons

#

Cause the company of the controller won't help me

coarse mesa
#

Its liem a regular wired controller

oblique thistle
#

ok

coarse mesa
#

Like and xbox or PlayStation controller

oblique thistle
#

Cause I was gonna teach you how to use a jump button and a at the same time to do a short hop aerial

#

Here, we'll try it

#

press y and a at the same time if you can

#

You can do it in any direction and you'll get an aerial out

#

So that will help you throw out more nairs, which are important for landing, starting combos, and is a good out of shield option

#

And even up air for that matter

coarse mesa
#

Its hard to press y and a at the same tine

oblique thistle
#

yeah that's the issue

#

Don't you have multiple shoulder buttons?

#

Should be 2 on the left and 2 on the right

coarse mesa
#

Both bumper buttons are broken but the trigger ones are fine

oblique thistle
#

Ok, so have one of them be shield and the other one be grab

#

Then change x to be jump and see if you like that more

#

Honestly you don't really need to do it but I find it to be helpful to have a jump button and a close to each other

coarse mesa
#

Ok ill change the buttons real quick

oblique thistle
#

alright, let's try it

#

oh

#

Sick

#

Then you can press x and y at the same time to do an empty short hop

#

it might take a bit to get used to, but maybe this will help

#

also fun fact, if you don't like this, you can use your right stick in the air to do an aerial as well

#

just no nair

coarse mesa
#

Ok

oblique thistle
#

you should also work on grabbing ledge

#

oops

#

Maybe I should work on it too

coarse mesa
#

I hate when my uo b goes the wrong way and i die cuz of it

oblique thistle
#

Yeah I get that

#

That just takes a bit of practice

#

Also very dependent on which way you aim your left stick

#

But practice that in training mode

#

Very important thing to learn

#

If you do up b too high, you go past the ledge

#

But after grabbing it, you can press shield to roll, jump to jump, a to do get up attack, or you can drop off and do a fair

#

also for the right stick do you use smash attack?

coarse mesa
#

Yea

oblique thistle
#

You can also swap it to tilt stick and see how you like it. I like to manually input my smash attacks

#

You can also press a and b at the same time to do a smash attack

coarse mesa
#

I think imma just stick with right stick being smash attaci

oblique thistle
#

Understood

#

Ok let's play

#

Now that you know x and a, you should work on getting your neutral airs instead of forward air to approach

coarse mesa
#

My kitten keeps messing me up

oblique thistle
#

Lol that's alright

coarse mesa
#

Afk

oblique thistle
#

np

coarse mesa
#

Back

#

Its hard to hit with y and x combo

oblique thistle
#

Yeah, but you're using x right?

coarse mesa
#

Yea

oblique thistle
#

Cause fair is only good after down tilt

#

it isn't the best move to be approaching with

#

I'll send you a video on how that works

#

But neutral air is the best move you can approach with

#

For now, I think I want you to get used to the x and a combo because it'll help you mix up your options

#

Sometimes do x and a and then throw out a b move to throw me off guard

coarse mesa
#

Ok

oblique thistle
#

I think your moveset is also very damage based

#

Cause most brawlers love to go for the flip kick instead of headbutt

coarse mesa
#

I made the moveset to do a lot of damage as fast as possible

oblique thistle
#

yeah I get that

#

Which is why you created the habit of using it too much

#

unfortunate jump

coarse mesa
#

How do i land hits with the y and k combo

oblique thistle
#

One of those things where you need to learn how to use it correctly

#

The way I do an approaching nair is by dashing forward by tapping to the right a bunch of times and then when I finish that dash animation, I press x and a at the same time to keep my momentum

#

Let's try it

#

I'll show you what a dash dance looks like

#

It's just slamming the right stick to a direction and then letting go

#

But you gotta let go

#

That should show you the motion for a dash dance

#

And then when you get used to doing that consistently, you can start doing x and a right after to do a nair

#

But remember, you can't input a direction when you do x and a

coarse mesa
#

What exactly is a nair?

oblique thistle
#

also reminder that you don't have to press x and a every time

#

Nair is neutral air

#

It's when you jump and press a while not holding a direction

coarse mesa
#

Which button is neutral air

oblique thistle
#

Then you can start to do delayed nairs

#

Which will help with approaches

#

If you wanna move with the nair out, you have to input the neutral air first and then a direction

#

Or what I like to do is combine the dash dance with the nair

#

There isn't really a good way I can show you the input

#

Cause I also use a different controller

#

That's probably the best way I can show it to you

coarse mesa
#

Ok

oblique thistle
#

dang

#

There's a way you can tell if you have a jump or not

#

You'll have some black smoke coming out when you use it

#

But it can be difficult to spot it

coarse mesa
#

I didnt have a chance to really practice it

oblique thistle
#

My faul

#

Fault*

#

I'll let you do it

coarse mesa
#

I wanna get really comfortable with it before fighting

oblique thistle
#

Then you can fast fall after it

#

Or you can jump in and while you're falling, throw out a nair

coarse mesa
#

I needa practice doing the actual combo

oblique thistle
#

That's something you're gonna have to do in training mode

#

Also again, x and y can be used together to do short hop

#

ooo I also need to tell you how to fast fall

#

That's when you jump and you slam the left stick down

#

But you have to be at the peak of your jump to do so

#

Also you know you don't have to use both jumps right?

coarse mesa
#

Does the little star thing that pops up tell you that you did a fast fall

oblique thistle
#

yes

coarse mesa
#

Ok what is the fast fall useful for

oblique thistle
#

to hit you nairs easier

#

And also lets you get back onto stage quicker

#

It's a quick input though

#

You have to do the nair and then immediately slam down

#

But that is stuff you will have to practice in training

#

I do want to play marvel rivals with my friends

#

So I'll end the session here and send you some videos to study while I have to also study

coarse mesa
#

Ok
