I wanted some physical buttons to control my home office so I built this 3d printed Macropad based on Joe Scottos Macropad design. It uses a variety of MX style switches and relegendable keycaps with labels printed using icons from The Noun Project. Inside is a D1 mini getting power via a little usb-c breakout board

Just wanted to say, that’s really clean. I am curious though- what makes you choose free soldering like that instead of a pcb or breakout boards for the switches?
art 😉
PCB’s would be perfect but there is always a huge delay from design to delivery and you have to order a minimum quantity (often five) which is way too many when you just want to build a single keyboard. So I have the choice between handwiring and building today or ordering five times more than I need and waiting a week or more for delivery. Also I’ve been burnt a few times by making a mistake on the PCB and then having to start the wait all over again
