Oh dang, you're using an actual bell, like it's 1923! Why the bell and all that jazz stuck on the wall instead of just using a speaker that plays a "ding-dong" sound and simultaneously sends alerts? There wouldnt be any reason worry about being pulled too hard, hell it wouldn't even need pulled, only a button required.
I get the impression that they wanted to know when the existing bell was rung, even if they aren’t home, rather than replacing the working bell with something more modern. This kind of retrofitting is where esphome shines. Take something not smart and make it smart. love this!

That's actually pretty simple: Authenticity. I have a 1930's house with many details still authentic (include a bell like this!). It suits the house.
