#[✓2.2.5] Munich map: Artificial choke points

Game version: 2.1.17
Platform: Linux

The 'official' Munich map contains a number of artificial 'choke points' that tend to ruin the flow at those points (Sigonda's map doesn't seem to contain them). I think they should be fixed. I've attached those points.

@snow token FYI

so... about that. That was kind of a hotfix to prevent stations being able to be skipped.

However, with the new dlc, skipping stations is no longer without consequences, so I could take out the chokepoints.

nocturne jasper
#

but not everybody has the DLC and not every DLC owner plays the HP game every time

versed creek
#

Isn't the point of some stations to be skipped by faster trains?

#

maybe something like through-tracks for stations would be helpful

#

@tight coyote You still have stations like Gauting, which are 'correct'

tight coyote
#

yes, but there used to be problems with some stations being included despite there being a bypass.

#

as said, it was sort of a hotfix for multiple issues, but by now it should no longer be needed, no.

versed creek
#

Or alteration of passing stops in existing contracts 🙂 🙂

#

Especially something like Mammendorf is especially annoying because the 4-track sink becomes kinda useless.

tight coyote
#

the problem is with the automaticly generated contracts, or well, it was

#

I cant control how the map calculates possible routes beyond blocking them off.

versed creek
#

Yeah, but that problem still exists. And changing automatic contracts/stops could be an option too.
Oh and I skipped one in the report: Ostbahnhof

#

The automatic routes through Rangierbahnhof Süd are a nightmare, because often enough two stops are generated.

tight coyote
#

yeah that's the thing, I can't control the automatic routing. The only thing I can try do is put in walls to force it through a tunnel.

In a way, the map just isn't exactly the greatest for endless. One thing I'd like to have for that would be some kind of platform that can only be used by passing trains so there's no need to actually 'pass' the station entirely, but not make it an actual platform which can be stopped at to count.

#

else most stations become much less like the real thing from what it's now.

versed creek
#

Yeah that's what I meant above.

#

I like the map for endless 🙂

I think in theory it's the "perfect" map for endless: because it's so big you can play it for a very long time and still add new things. Most other (smaller) maps you could be "done" with relatively quickly.
That said the map has certainly a big problem with the game: It's so big, you can't navigate it easily. There is no minimap, no "camera jumping", scrolling is slow etc.

@snow token is working a new version, probably including current expansion projects.
I still hope the revive some version of M21. It's needed badly

That'd be cool

I was happy that my map was choosen as one of the contest winner. But the contest was about reallife networks. And my map was about it to experince the reallife network ingame. So i was very frustrated when i saw that there were many changes done to the map. And now it has little to do with the real network.

tight coyote
#

I'm not happy about it either, as weird as that may sound. the problem is that the game doesn't play nice with the map as it was.

#

and while there's a couple stations I could open back up without issue, the way routes are made are still like oil to the water that is this map.

snow token
#

Can't say much about that. I've no idea how the game calculates it's routes. When i created the map you could make your own contract. And plan your own routes.
By the time the game released 1.0 that wasn't the case anymore. But now you can thankfully do it again 🙂

tight coyote
#

yeah, that's a rather nice thing they brought back and as for contract generation, it used to be that trains would let you drive the trial where ever, and all stops they made were added to their list. It was a bit more flexible, although harder to visualise than the current system. The handholding it does for setting up routes is handy until it's not. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

versed creek
#

which is most of the time 😦

is your original München map in the workshop? I didn't see any at least not by an account with your name

tight coyote
snow token
#

Yes it is. But it is outdated. Currently working on an update version for HP DLC.
And finding a way to add Ardra's ideas 😂

tight coyote
#

casually awaiting it to 'update' the in game map.

snow token
#

The map is called München mit Streckennetz (Munich with tracks) and the same map but without network Layout München ohne Streckennetz (Munich without tracks)

#

For the offical ingame map i can't do anything about it. I'm not a developer 😂

tight coyote
#

I'm only by technicality, but i'd be glad to rid myself of the mangled residu I left of your old map

#

I feel bad for it to this day, rather pull the plug on it than let it suffer in this state, but I can't just not have a replacement

versed creek
#

Yeah hence I opened the bug 😄

snow token
#

At least the map with the track layout where i automated the S-Bahn lines. The trains used to come out of the depots. But now all depots are empty, despite all contracts still existing.

snow token
tight coyote

Currently away from my pc, so its an unfortunate time for me also. Feel free to dm me when you've got time.

versed creek
#

I'm game if anyone needs ideas/suggestions.

#

I've now got close to 180 points on that map.

#

and I'm funnelling like 30 trains through Geltendorf

#

(and almost every PAX train meanwhile goes through HBF) 😁

#

trying some Augsburg-Salzburg bypass ICs.

versed creek
#

Also helpful would be to have freight stations where commuters don't stop.

snow token
#

All my freight stations only generate freight contracts. Just like TyperiMILOS wrote yesterday
"Commuters will stop everywhere by default sadly"

versed creek
#

Yeah 😦

snow token
tight coyote
#

yeah 😅, let me get to that rn now, have to upload another map I worked on in the meantime for something else that's planned

#

but it probably should be pretty much good as is, last I checked

#

so at least it's just a case of pushing the files to the cloud so they'll be there next game update

tight coyote
#

@nocturne jasper, The updated munchen map has been uploaded to the cloud. After syncing this with the current build, it should appear in the next update.

vapid sluice
#

is it now more similar to the latest version @snow token uploaded to the workshop?

snow token
#

It is the same map as my workshop map "Munich without tracks" yes

tight coyote
#

minus the signals on the unusable ends at terminus stations with walls behind the platforms

#

;P

nocturne jasper

@snow token @vapid sluice @versed creek sorry guys, I missed @tight coyote's notification in June, so the updated map will make it to the game in the next path

UPDATE: Chokepoints removed from München map
