Game version: x.x.x (check bottom left corner ingame)
OS: (Win)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run game at x25 speed
  2. replace rails

Wrong behavior:
Describe what's wrong.
Game grinds to a halt and only way to fix is save and reload
It happens pretty much every time I replace tracks if I forgot to pause

Expected behavior:
Describe what you would expect.
Not lagging

@paper shale Does the game stay in the laggy state even when you close build mode?
Were you trying to build a very long piece of track? as the longer the new track is the more computation is done for the shape of the track.
So when you attempt to build a very long track the game can slow down a lot. we do have a setting in the options for this scenario to decrease the search limit when building tracks.

I was bulk upgrading(replacing) tracks while running the sim at x25, but I was mostly just placing straight lines, so either placing long pieces of straight track or lots of little pieces or both and eventually game suddenly would go to slideshow mode and nothing i tried would return game to normal except save and load, exiting the build menu didn't work, waiting for a few mins didn't work, because It didn't return to normal after im not sure if its related to the search limit and I wasn't really replacing that much track like max 100k of the second tier tracks at once.

my laptop reasonably powerful asus tuf with dedicated gpu, if this sort of issue happening in game usually a infinite loop bug or something

if I encounter the bug again ill post

So far no, i have not been able to reproduce it. this is also the first report mentioning it.
and 100K of second tier track is quite a long distance so that could have been the problem depending on the map layout, how many trains / sensors etc you have and the pc specs

interestingly it happened 10 seconds or so after I placed anything, when a train went onto a new track maybe

#

also the menu is working fine once its open but closing menu game is still in slideshow, i guess its not the fps but the simulation

The log is full of the name error. looks like the game tries to use a track that has been replaced with a faster one. this is causing the low FPS.

paper shale
#

ok theres plenty there for u to chew on

#

hope it all helps

paper shale
#

and if I didn't already say im pretty sure placing tracks paused prevents the issue

abstract yew
#

yea i think its a precise timing issue. where a train is moving over a switch in this case (according to the log). then some track on the switch is replaced and the game still tries to use the old track.
@rugged wedge I remember you implemented a fix for the next version about signals keeping a reference to bulldozed tracks, could that also fix this issue here maybe?

Okay

Thank you for your help on the bug report but we dont give special treatment that way.
If your suggestion would be voted up a lot by other players then we look at it more closely just like all other suggestions.

paper shale

in the time it took you to come up with that political response you could of skimmed the post twice over haha. Anyway happy bug hunting!

I read your suggestion, it's useful in brainstorming for the next DLC 😉

@paper shale I have tried to reproduce the issue but i was unable to.
so there must be some specific scenario happening where it misbehaves and your error is occurring.
if you could find an exact way how to reproduce the issue that was be very helpful.

Also did the fps drop start to happen while still in build mode or after you closed build mode?

paper shale
#

i gave u my savegame u can use that to test in

#

just run game at x25 and upgrade all the rails u can, keep build mode and rail tool open and wait for something to happen

#

i agree with the suggestion it will likely happen when a train goes over a switch in the new tracks

#

i have lots of switches iwth relay sensors on my map

paper shale
#

@abstract yew i can try on stream

abstract yew
#

i tried to upgrade the rails like you suggested but i didnt get any errors or fps drops.
so maybe the special scenario / timing of actions isnt happening for me. thats why i would like to know the exact reproduction steps when this error happens.
if you could make a video of when it happens that we could watch back to maybe figure out when its happening that would be great

paper shale
#

i can stream now?

abstract yew
#

Bug was unreproducable during a stream. likely the cause is some specific set of circumstances in upgrading while a route is set over a switch to cause the reported error.
Leaving this on the backburner until more exact reproduction steps are found

@paper shale

FIX: Traversing a switch sometimes failed after track upgrade, caused stuck train and/or perf problems
