I noticed this many times before, only now I decided to leave a ticket about it.
The weekly contest table often does not display the average results of the latest waves.

No, it is one particular player whose score is in the middle of the leaderboard.

unreliable... I thought the average was calculated between the players who completed the wave.

I think you are mixing terms here. Median and average is not the same thing. It makes sense to be compared to the global median player instead of the global average result, because you will know if you are above or below the person at the middle of the leaderboard - IMO.

Could be better if we grab data from those completed a wave rather than rank players' score altogether regardless of completion. Such way we can always ensure there's data for any wave

It's not hard but we wanted the player to be compared to another player. If you pass a wave the other did not, you are better. You can compare to another player (e.g. the best) by selecting him from the leaderboard.
