The bright flight trails are present when just leaving the platform now in regular squads and normal falling/flying.
These trails are fine for Phoenix mode but they should not be there like this in regular squads as it completely hinders pin dropping.
If the goal is to remove that aspect of the game then just remove tower, though pin dropping while frustrating on the receiving end, is some of the most fun in game.
