went 13/14 yesterday had 2 games where I was blue in the lobby but loaded skin once game started. Saw couple teleporters.
About the same here. I played quite a bit yesterday with only a few problems. I had only one game where it was laggy enough for me to pod out. Always have blue people at round start, but smooths out a few seconds in. At least I can finally play again. Still scared to look at the data usage.
Are the skin assets really 35 gigs? If that's the case, are we at the point that we have too many skins? I can only see this problem getting even worse in the future. Big Box counts on selling new skins to generate revenue. So I can't see them changing their business model.
And thereās no point buying skins you canāt see⦠if they sold a bright blue PJ with diamond sunglasses I think Iād buy it lol š

Plus it's not so much skins, but Textures. So all the map Textures as well.
FYI - If anyone has been trying to re-run the localizer script from way earlier in these threads... The build number in the script needs to be v346 now.
So if you're using the localizer does that mean you actually have two copies of all assets? One put on your hard drive by big box that isn't even used, then another one used by the script?
Maybe somebody can make a script that forces the game to use what's already there.

re-ran my localizer (due to my json being updated) today and was back to buttery smooth operations.
Yeah but one of the last updates was a local copy of all that (hence why the game is now like 40GB). So in essence you've got two copies of everything on your hard drive. Like 75GB total.
I donāt believe that is accurate. My games asset folder added 15k NEW files thru the process. If it was a complete copy prior I would have been overwriting those files.
I will try the localizer again. What is the current version?

Just remember if you have multiple jsons in there - easiest to delete them all - launch to get the correct fresh one to feed the script.

when you were downloading, were you monitoring your bandwidth by any chance? i had a stable 150Mbps download speed for the first 15-20 minutes and then the download speed crashed to 10Mbps. After additional 4-5 minutes it began to fluctuate between 15-100Mbps. What i gather from this is that the servers themselves cant provide the required bandwidth and not my local ISP which still provides me with 900+Mbps at the moment.
Few things.. the script is threaded with a default of 6 and itās 15k or so files. So itās not one huge file coming down. Major fluctuations would be expected. Mine bounced between probably 15 and 200
The assets are also front by cloud front - so anytime the asset request goes itās itās going to load balance to various CF hosts.
These are also not the game servers (east/west/Europe)
Is this a hard process to figure out?

May have missed something - or it may have reverted back and it's didn't use the local path. If the game finds any oddity with the JSON it can overwrite it with a new version. Localizing these assets DOES help - without question.

not saying the script doesnt help somewhat (i didnt have any problems with textures loading) but it definitely doesnt fix lags and stutters with the game itself.
too many times today game just froze, either when i was flying, fighting, or even just standing in the lobby waiting for my squad.
Not sure why it doesnāt help some either - those symptoms tho are exactly the issues I would have as well. Open you active json - does it have StandaloneWindows64 on all the objects ?

Idk much but could some of these be reduced in size? The game is already not photorealistic & I wouldn't mind if for example rocks were plain gray if they loaded smoothly š
@warped compass Spent a few hours helping me thru the process and it appears to work! My internet speed was 40mb/s and with this fix every single skin and gun appeared correctly! Not a single blue object! The speed was extreamly fast and smooth. Thank you for the help, I was about to give up!
Right on. Remember - Anytime the game updates your json this has to be redone.
I've been able to play classic squads and comp since the changes to cashe. But I tried the evolving map and it wasn't playable at all with the lag and bugs.
Have you tried Sandbox/TDM? Not necessarily as an alternative (although I personally love and would recommend it) but to see whether the same issues happen for you there
I haven't as I never play sandbox. I'd prefer to play evolving squads but that's not a permanent option š

I like the optimism and that we are still expecting a fix here. Frankly? I gave upā¦.it is what it is. Both Firmware problems and the game problems. I am going back to just ignoring everything and enjoy the game when I can if it works ok-ish. Both Meta and BB lost me as a customer due to this cluster f*#% of updates since v54/poo1 update from end of may. I am not going to support them in anyway neither by digital goods or devices. All the best to BB and Meta with the current business plan of āmin effort, max yieldā.
What's insane here is that the localizer WORKS.
There is a solution to this problem that a PLAYER figured out and for now a month and a half the development team for this game has just stayed totally quiet.

Here is my experience. And what I sent Spike.
I tried the Evolving map mode today for the first time and it made my physically sick and I experienced something new. The left eye in my headset was a little laggy but "playable". The right eye was shifting back and forth every .25sec, non stop. I rebooted my headset and PC and tried again with the same result. Went back to playing Classic and it was fine. It was a trippy experience
Mine freezes for a second and then the head turning motion is not at all smooth (kinda like what you're saying), usually fixes by putting the headset to sleep and waking it up...
Yesterday, every time I woke the headset back up...froze again and the same happened.
Took like 3 resets to get it actually...somewhat working.
(Using Oculus PC app + Quest 2)

Skins take forever to load in. So when the match starts it and they finally do, it causes my visuals to freeze then speed up to try to catch up to where my head is. This makes me sick to my stomach. I've dealt with it. But i can see most just taking off their headsets. Along with seeing blue PJs with skins overlapping them as the game stutters and struggles to keep up...it's rough rn
I tried playing again yesterday after almost a month off. Classic squads worked using VD and so did custom rooms for a War League. Havenāt tried standalone because VD worked fine and havenāt tried evolving map.

I stopped poking my head in. I'm with @rough scaffold BigBox has abandoned this game and Meta has apparently abandoned their hardware. These are two companies I have zero confidence in.
I tried jumping on with the Quest 2 yesterday. I hadn't played standalone in a few weeks. Every match started with a shit ton of lag. Most matches I was 600+ ping (when it should have been 30) for the first minute or two into the match. I couldn't exit my pod and other issues. No skins were loading... Effectively the first hour of play was painful.
No way anyone new to the game would stick around in it's current state. It's really bad. I'm not sure what the metrics are, but I can guarantee you that you lost a lot of potentials players recently.
Code should have been rolled back to when I first reported that LOTS of people were having issues. This is an "on fire" issue and it affects the people that play less frequently the most.
Stand alone just seems to get progressively worse by the day. Missing hands, teammates not being assigned to our team in lobby and then getting kicked from squad, players rubber banding everywhere and alternating between flying poses and teleporting to the new location. Guns lagging while shooting is a new one. Iām at a loss as to whatās going on. I get this is PCVR thread but agree with @pure otter so wanted to weigh in. Itāsā¦. not good. And Iāve not ever had issues this bad nor this frequently.
Much of what I noticed when I was on PCVR was Quest2 users struggling. All that lag we PCVR users were witnessing was the Quest 2 users struggling.

One of the worst things you can do when there are netcode issues is crank up the speed. What a coincidence that they decided to crank up the speed twice since this problem began.
Game been unplayable for me on pcvr for over a month ...( apart from 1 week when the localiser worked and the game was beautiful ) standalone has started working for me over just the last week but it's not buttery smooth like it used to be so much more laggy play and random frame drops ...

Actually I've just played on quest with virtual desktop using steam version of pop1 and the skins seem to be actually caching after theve loaded for first time.. I might have just had a lucky few games lol
After a few days of using the v346 localizer a lot of the issues are still gone. The only thing I noticed 2 times was a clear AWP shot landing in the evolving map. Then 3 seconds later it registering visualy and audibly.

I am guessing all the other issues i experience when playing are Quest 2 related.
If you are on PCVR, use the localizer script, and keep using it after every update till BB will figure it out (not really sure what needs to be figured out here if a fix already exists but oh well....)

Something corrupt with the json ā¦. Delete the jsons from the user folder. Loving again to get a fresh copy.
Move that to the scripts folder and run the py again. Also you did modify the script and change the build to v346 correct?
yes i modified to v346 then downloaded all the assets
then replaced the original json with the new one
i did delete the existing json before i downloaded the assets
and obviously rebooted pop to get a new one and did it with a fresh json

⦠and as a side note - this isnāt sustainable for BB to actually install every asset during the install and run them locally - the install becomes way to large and then they canāt add skins and assets in as easily on the fly like they do now.
Which is why the unity engineās caching mechanism is suppose to take care of this behind the scenes.

Hi! trying to help papi here, she has an index and plays the steam version. the process is a bit different. i was able to find the json in steam directory for the game but for some reason when running the script i get an error on multiple lines "get_url". anyone with index\on steam and used the script that can help?

There really arenāt any different steps for index- most likely just a different pathway to the folders you have to reference in CMD

Also when I deleted all the json file in the user directory and asked papi to start the game via steam no new json was generated. But on a steam folder with bunch of numbers that are associated to the steam game I found the correct json for the pop1 steam version which also generated again after I deleted all the json files in that folder. I took the newly generated json.

Not working for papi unfortunately. I believe itās the wrong json as itās associated with the Oculus version of the game and not steam version.
Something else is going on. The json does get stored there. Iāve done this for steam versions. Iām Working with papi still.

It's just bananas that we're doing this again.
About six or seven months ago, this SAME problem occurred and the Localizer was developed and worked great. About a day after the Localizer got figured out, the game got patched and started working again.
And now here we are again. And we've been stuck here for a month and half.
I'm thrilled that the Localizer works but.... Haven't we already DONE this??

Finally did localizer script today.... While I only had blue characters in lobby to start, I can agree with others it still felt like night and day difference. Never saw a single blue character even for a couple seconds!

How often do new JSON files get created where we need to update?

I've been able to play on VD for a few weeks now. However I am only able to play Classic Squads and Custom rooms (comp). The evolving map is unplayable for me. Even after sticking it out for a round hoping it smooths out. It doesn't.
I found the easiest solution was to stop playing pop1. Much less stress to just check this thread once a week.

I restarted my computer and headset and everything was back to good so far.
I volunteer to test on virtual desktop and quest 2, and run any tests you guys want, in order to fix this issue. I really enjoy playin the game and want to see it get better. I should get my right controller Friday july 21 so can test from that point.

Yes, this patch contains a fix for the caching.
Assets should be downloaded once now, an not need be redownloaded (as long as your device has enough space ~30 GB on PCVR).

The assets are downloaded as needed & cached. This keeps the app size small & allows us to add skins without an entire game update.
It should no longer affect gameplay.
Let us know if there continues to be issues with this.
so if you see a skin for the first time, it downloads the skin, and only the skins you see for the first time
is a hybrid approach an option for those on pcvr? include all thats available in build and then any new skin on the fly is delivered in cache and used? seemed to be that way before and reduced even the little lag at start for first game since most all would be there
Not at the moment, but possibly in the future.
This is an entirely new system than the one we were using last year, so we can't compare to that previous system unfortunately.
The caching fix should fix the issues described in this thread. Let us know if there's still lag & large bandwidth usage after playing some matches.

Try restarting headsets when running into this, a known OS issue

check if you have an update to the headset OS pending. I have helped 4 people today and there was an update pending that was the cause of all issues

If Iām on good internet it loads the skins fast but Iām using 100mbps for about 10 seconds. On my bad internet at home it takes longer than the game lasts

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Steam version and it's 11.6GB (before running the game). I assume that'll grow with the cache. I'll try playing tonight.

Pico 4, VD and Steam, running great now! Cache seems to be working now!

So after loading in to about 30 lobbies Iāve stopped seeing blue skins except for every once in a while and ping going down to normal So it seems like they are getting stored
Game ran much more smoothly on PC tonight. And I only saw very few people having significant lag (probably their internet). So it looks to be a big improvement. (Only tested it on PC tonight).
I saw blue skins on first load in, but they were all loaded before the round started. And after that, it was rare to see a blue skin in lobby.
I think only people with really poor internet are going to think their game is broken until every skin gets downloaded
I had pretty much given up on the game and have been playing other games due to frustration, but coming back tonight was refreshingly nice.
May need to delete the JSON file if you did the localizer.
Correct šÆ! Once I deleted the JSON that the localizer created. The game sat at 0%for 3seconds and then loaded. I saw blue PJs every game for 10 to 15games progressively reducing in load time. Thanks All for keeping this issue at the top and getting it solved!

I work near a major airport and the max speed I get at work is 6 mbps due to greedy evil internet companies. It sucks. I'm glad they were able to get this working

I had that yesterday, did it hang there for more than 10 seconds? If you're using the localizer what worked for me was going to that folder that the guy has you make the shortcut to and delete the JSON files. When you re-open pop it should re-create those files on load. See if it advances, that worked for me.

The neighborhood here blocked AT&T from expanding in 2005. So we never got AT&T fiber. That would have also allowed Google Fiber.
We are stuck with Cox only. And only our neighborhood. So all the neighborhoods around us have all 3, and prices are $55-$80. But since Cox has no competiton in our area, its $180.
One of the laggiest sessions I had since I used the script. Last 5 games were completely unplayable.

After playing one round, all player skins were blue at the start of the next. As if the assets had downloaded and then disappeared at the start of the next round.
Please help.

Crazy.. yesterdays patch fixed the game 100% for me. It's hard to understand how it is working for some people and not others.
Pap it didnāt seem fixed for me at first but after joining 20-30 pubs matches and leaving before game started it finally downloaded the majority of the skins and now game runs fine until I run into a new skin that I havnt seen yet.
I pay 240 for 80gb cellular data and get up to 30mbps down. This is why it would take me like 20min to load in 1 skin š
I just did the same... Playes 8 games and by the end of the 3rd everything loaded only i was blue till it got in game... I am just about to uninstall reinstall and see if that helps... thanks god we have a fix though hey
Those still having issues -- Y'all do have plenty of free space on your C:\ drive correct? The unity engine caches the files, unfortunately, into your Users LocalLow folder by default. (Personally I would REALLY prefer the cache go where the game is installed).
I think u will see blue skins again until they all get a chance to be downloaded which will take some time because thereās a lot. I think thatās why the game is only 11gb now because we arenāt downloading all of the assets until we need them in game then they get stored in game folder for later
Like I said I had to load into like 20-30 lobbies til I got one with no blue skins and I stopped using a lot of data. Helps if you select all the skins in your inventory to get a head start on getting them downloaded too

Hello I played yesterday I still see a bit of blue skins but it almost seems it gets better over time. I will play today and see what happens using quest 2 and virtual desktop and my ping is under 30ms usually
Thatās normal - since the caching is working, as the client sees more āpreviously unseenā skins the lobby stuttering will reduce.
Would be cool if there was a setting we could enable to go precache this stuff in game
Totally agree. This is the only game I play on the headset and I would be happy to give it the whole hard drive.

odd, mine was working perfectly via cable yesterday.
Gotta play till all the blue pjs load in once then its good. I feel a lot of people load in, see the blue pjs and immediately log out and assume it's not working.
I am no longer experiencing the huge lag. But now I can only listen and not talk to people. Anyone else have this same issue and were able to troubleshoot?

I donāt know what to tell you guys. I still experience massive lags. I canāt play like this. Canāt build. My shots donāt register and most times today I shot someone. Nothing happened and suddenly I see 100+ above the enemy.
If I put builds, it takes them longer than a second to appear. And in a lot of close range combat my image just freezes.

nvm. Replaced my router and everything seems to be working fine now. No more lags that I am aware of. Even the microstutters are mostly gone now. Finally had a session where I could actually play and my shots registered!!! Dunno what happened to my router in the past 2 months but am so happy I can play normally again.
Sometimes they just š© the šļø .. sometimes they get infected with malware .. sometimes they need a factory reset.
Or just need to be unplugged so the cache can empty

I am confused because unplugging a router doesn't clear it's cache. You have to log into the router and manually clear it.

Not quite accurate ā a lot of the newer routers run a Linux shell underneath with storing cache in temp folders that Linux purges on a boot cycle. Further - routine tables and such get built and stored in runtime memory. Sometimes tho get garbled up and it needs a power cycle to clear.
Yeah I just schedule mine to reboot once a week middle of the night. Has stabilized a lot of random performance issues.
Yeah I can't speak for all routers, but Netgear nighthawk routers hold the cache even after being unplugged. I know my router is causing issues with menus loading, because if I completely bypass my router and go wired from modem to computer and then to headset everything loads perfectly. It sucks because this was never an issue. I even factory reset the router but that didn't fix anything.
DNS cache? That gets held in multiple points between you and Internic. It can happen at your computer, your router, your default DNS server... potential other servers... all the way up...
Your nighthawk might suggest a different DNS server than your modem. (if you are using default DNS)
Often the worst DNS server to use is the one provided by your ISP.

I replaced my router and 0 problems since in terms of connectivity, stutters etc....
Some lobbies people jump around the place but that is normal behavior for this game.
I wish BB would clean the table from bugs for a change after ±3 years since release. Pretty insane the amount of glitches we have.
Still, none of the current problems are game breaking, just annoyance....
Really having a blast in the past couple of days and i am so happy the game is working well for me again.
I was also able to resolve the artifacts on Q2 by lowering the resolution in VD\Air Link if someone has those.

last week the game was so broken for me that i just had to stop and figure it out. glad i did. its been a frustrating couple of months, not only in pop1, but with the headset in general that just didnt work correctly.

single player games ran fine in most part....but not like they used to (especially steamvr games)
I was in a similar situation (on standalone) but things are all sorted for me now, maybe it will work just fine for you now too

They fixed it. Blue PJs will only be at the beginning of a new update. then they auto load the skins after the first time loading in

I took a few weeks off. I came back because they brought back the Evolving map. But it's so laggy for me still and I want to know if you're experiencing the same... Classic squads is good. Custom lobbies on the evolving map (Comp) is good. Public games on the evolving map are unplayable.... I'm so tired of just playing classic š¦ And to add, I have factory reset my headset and uninstall/reinstalled on my PC several times.
Have you tried resetting your router also? My game is good since the assets issue was sorted, but I also did the same as most the people above in this feed⦠reinstalled the game and reset the router.
I have a few times. I just don't understand why I have zero issues in a custom lobby but not in a public game. What's the difference?
Mmmmm I had this prior to the asset issue. But since then my games smooth. It does take 2-3 public games on evolving map to become smooth though. Itās not instant. But by the end of game 2-3 itās back to playable.
Maybe one of the guys here can help you more theyāve been really helpful getting peeps back in the game!

So I have finally had a chance to play a little bit.
And the problem is better, but not perfect. The beginning of every round, a lot of blue skins and high ping. Big hesitations and freezes. Floating enemies. It only lasts about two minutes instead of 5-10. So it's an improvement but it seems like the cache still isn't really "holding onto" skins.
I just checked my data usage for the past 30 days. Pop1 downloaded 127 gigs. Prior to the last patch I was using over 500 gigs per 30 days. Pop 1 shows last patch was 22 days ago so some of that 127 gigs was before the patch. So it seems like the cache is for the way it supposed to now. At least for me.
Cache is fine as well for me. But yesterday after 21:00 CET game just became laggy to the point I had to quit. Dunno why. Just started out of nowhere

Same... I had that awful drag in my headset and only way i can describe it was the game felt 'wobbly' restartedheadset and PC verified files all teh usual stuff and it was still like it today š¦
OK I'm back here after a few weeks glad to see it's potentially been fixed I'll post my experience tomorrow after a good long session tonight
