request for a clan tag field in-game

As people are joining clans and competitive teams, people are also adding three letters in front of their names for their clan name. And I propose instead of changing your name for every game you play, you can add your clan name in-game so it does not affect every other game you play.

Bumping this request. I'm intrested in joining a clan soon but I don't want to change my name and have it change across all my games where it wouldn't apply. A 3 letter clan tag option that you can set in your load out would be optimal for this and seems easy enough to implement. Besides, for Meta they require 6 months in between name changes so it becomes a problem changing frequently.

So who would add the clan tags to players? Could any player add any clan tag to their name? Does it need to be approved by a single clan leader or clan leader or proxy + Big box? I want a clan tag too. Just trying to understand what the the administrative process would be. What if you are in 2 clans? Can I get 2 tags on my name? Who validates tags? Taking them and adding them people as players rotate in and out of clans.

Worth looking at how other multiplayer games do it I’d say - for instance in Zenith they have Guilds which individually you can create one yourself and then add people to /manage . If joining one you would need to be added by the original creator of the guild /or those they have delegated to have that ability; as an individual you can leave a guild without this interaction. It then opens up whole new separate friends list (to see availability) and the ability to group /proximity chat to everyone or just “guild” members . The naming is then just automatically added on as a tag without you having to change your original gamer name

You can only be in one clan
You could request to be in the clan, where the clan leader can accept the request.
You can get kicked out of the clan or leave which then would remove the tag. There can be a co leader who has the ability to accept someone into their clan.

This is where like other games they have an out of game accessible app really helps to manage members /messages - the in game communication is woeful atm which is a shame as if could get more people in clans would be self fulfilling in promoting the game

great QOL, let me add 3 letters to the beginning of my name. this way i wont have to change my name for a min of 6 months via oculus app

no one needs to approve or do anything. not like today something is stopping me from adding random 3 letters to my name

Great solution to the dilemma mentioned. Maybe BB could even gain some appreciation and clout from the player base by having this interaction with ppl cause they have to allow people with an existing clan to have dibs on their tag vs someone ‘registering’ first

I agree with @stoic path , at least for now. This would be an easy and super helpful thing to implement as just a text box. Could add registering/clan admins and additional features down the road. I mean someone could change their name and add a clantag they aren't apart of now anyways if they wanted to.

That feature is not really working as in you will be placed on other regions then you selected and besides that isn’t saved between sessions… really 2 of the main things the region selection should be doing aren’t working….

If they did I would kind of want them to look like the i've seen some of the BB employees from time to time. Its like a black boarder with white inside. Not saying those colors but its very apparent what you are looking at because the lettering is against a solid white background.

Just make it easy make a clan tag box and let us write it in our selfs it will help be less stressful on staff when someone leaves a clan and bugs meta support for a name change just to change the clan tag no reason to make it more difficult then it already is we handle our clans on our own through the clan servers anyways

This seems like a great idea. Just gotta figure out how to prevent too much abuse/trolling in the clan tag area 🤔

Maybe have possibly multiple tags available for people who are in multiple clans (but the tags all merge into one field when displayed, with separators)

Could also require people to register their clan tags in order to be able to use them. Might be busy at first as all the existing clan tags get added but adding new clans ongoing might be relatively easy.
To make it easiest we could just make a community list of all existing clans and bulk import them.
People could still need to enter the clan tag(s) manually rather than just choose from a list of "available" tags, but what they type will need to be on the list in order to be accepted.

This would prevent people from abusing the clan tag field with random stuff, and from randomly using the clans of tags to which they don't belong

Imagine being able to see all the members of your clan in your friend list without needing to add them all. That would be huge. No more typing dozens of friend codes one by one.

Or being able to see a clan leaderboard. Those who have played Clash of Clans will know what I mean. No more guessing who the top clans are, being able to see the progress in your clan.

Lastly, being able to search existing clans, you could see some brief description of the clan, stats, maybe even top members.
