#Creeping Terror Revamp!

Creeping Terror is Catastrophe's staple passive, it's what the class revolves around. However, as it stands now, it's far too awkward and inconvenient to the player.

The issue with Creeping Terror is the need for Catastrophe to be behind the enemy. Not all enemies have backs, and it seems the developers have forgotten about CaT, because new bosses are still being created that have no back. The Band-Aid fix added to this issue was having the skill Phantom Blade, but this doesn't solve the problem at hand. CaT is STILL missing out on that 15% skill damage boost. Phantom Blade also has a long cooldown for a tenacity, 11 seconds!

Furthermore, Creeping Terror does not work with Green Exascale Armor. CaT can't make use of it because they need to constantly apply Phantom Blade before casting Apollyon because Apollyon consumes all Creeping Terror stacks. Now you have to waste time reapplying the buff, which has a 1 second reapplication debuff on its own, and before you know it, the Green Exascale buff is gone.

EDIT: I didn't realize, but Remnant of Fear's buffs also goes away once Apollyon is casted.

I have a couple of ideas on how we can solve these issues: The first is to have Creeping Terror apply if the enemy is hit, regardless of where they are hit. The next is to remove Apollyon absorbing Creeping Terror Stacks. Have the Darkness Demon get larger and hit harder depending on the amount of stacks the enemy has, similar to how Innocent's Eschaton works. Lastly, decrease the cooldown of Phantom Blade.

EDIT 2: Turns out Apollyon absorbing creeping terror isn't even the only problem. Supreme Punishment is constantly eating up stacks via Burst of Terror, so Apollyon doesn't always even take full stacks. Fix this.

Grand Chase rules don't work that well when they're applied so minimally and haphazardly.
Another fix i can throw out might be to give either version of Summon Darkness the an attack that has them to temporarily pop behind the enemy's hitbox and apply full creeping terrors stack with their fire breath. I know it ain't a good fix, considering the enemy detection abilities of summon in regards to wall bosses, but at maybe unmodded Summon Darkness might be able to pull it off.

just let it apply when hit. For PVP reduce the on hit amount and give bonus for hitting behind. seems a lot simpler to tweak some values and/or a few lines of code than to go willy nilly with workarounds.

its just a remnant of Pastsword at this point. It also gives them a chance to do something else PVP related later on if they want.

Definitely needs some love; so many classes got their enemy ha debuffs issues addressed during balance patch.
Not 100% the same issue, but it's in the same park of classes unnecessarily having their debuffs/buffs made moot.

NOTE: learned some info from my cat main buddy!

As we know, Creeping Terror is constantly being detonated from Burst of Terror. Here's the issue, though. Special Actives, namely Supreme Punishment, is constantly detonating it.

Would like to hear more from Catastrophe Players as well. I know you exist so step up

Even so, it's November 1st 2024, lots has happened since then in terms of balancing and updates, so if improvements elsewhere haven't been helpful then knowing that, even again, is still helpful

The only thing that's changed for catastrophe since then was supreme punishment's debuff changing effects (which should apply to both mod and unmod but doesn't)

Like the op states, they still create bosses that don't have a back which makes the passive ineffective

i put this in the els chat but it fits better here, uh
nerf the effects of each creeping terror stack but increase the max number of stacks so the highest possible buff/debuff remains the same
front attacks can apply stacks too but it's less effective than back attacks (ie. 1 stack for a front hit vs 2 stacks for a back attack)
also give burst of terror an on/off button, whether that's an active skill or some kind of button like switching characters, let us toggle it on and off
this removes the problem with constantly detonating stacks when you need them to buff apollyon or whatever else
and let the remnant of fear buff last for a few seconds after the debuff either detonates or gets absorbed so you can have better uptime on it.

Most of catastrophe kit is too focused on PVP and doesn't really works on PVE. After the latest balance, Creeping terror is even more useless than ever in PVE

From my experience playing as Cata, there's no point anymore nowadays keeping up the creeping terror stack because 1. any special skill can detonate it (even oriax which doesn't have and actual damage), and especially supreme punishment since it's damage over time and each damage it does can detonate the stack and 2. Even when miracle happen that the stack stay and apolyon is actualy the one who absorb it, the damage of apolyon + land of death debuff is higher than apolyon + fullstack Creeping Terror. Apolyon + land of death + fullstack creeping terror can happen, but it's rarely happen due to issue number 1. and this is also make MOD supreme punishment useless since all it does is consume the stack and doesn't give the +15% phy damage.

Nowadays you can just keep the land of death debuff up all time without worrying about Creeping terror stack--which kinda funny considering this debuff also affect party and when you can't due to CD issue, you use phantom blade then apolyon for inferior but atleast still better than raw apolyon. The apolyon gimmick of absorbing creeping stack has a lot of problem in bossing scenario. the other issue also come with the fact that Remnant of Fear is a thing and apolyon also absorb the stack this makes Green Exa ineffective for cata since we can't make the full potential of the buff due to the need of restacking the debuff.

If not for damage, the full stack is only useful to make apolyon bigger to make it a clearing skill, but let's be real there's no scenario in current elsword environment where you need apolyon for clearing. The revamped Demonic Canon has insane range with full combination point, and MOD oblivion is fast cast and decent horizontal clear. The only place for me where apolyon is the clearing skill is in the new Train Secret Dungeon or Serpent Dungeon cus my equipment suck--if I have full +11 armor and weapon probably Demonic Canon and Oblivion will works.

That's probably all the issue with creeping terror stack, now the MAIN ISSUE which is BACK ATTACK.

With elsword becoming raid focused game, PLEASE CHANGE THE BACK ATTACK CONDDITION REQUIREMENT. Back attack simply doesn't work on big boss and most of the raid boss ARE big boss. Not to mention than you really love making boss that doesn't have back side. like the entire Great Steel Wall. Rosso raid except when the rosso become humanoid doesn't have clear back side. Haivan back side on p3 isn't clear, is it only when he shoot missile the back shown? or is it what ever side Phantom blade send me is actually a back side? I don't know. Berthe phase 1 have clear back side, but doesn't matter since mostly you can't focusing damaging his back due how the boss works. Phase 2 Berthe back is in the other side of the universe. Ran phase 3 and Serpent Raid Phase 2 also have same issue just like Berthe Phase 2.

In my abyss raid run with 2 dps, mostly there's no significant damage different with the other dps that have similar investment. the only exception is on 18-4 due to phase 3 last boss. my damage will for sure become half the other DPS and sometime even lower depending on which class the other dps is. Due the the fact that the back attack bonus damage simply wont happen. Going to great steel wall with the same person resulting in the same disapointment due to similar issue

If I have to suggest, we need to separate the skill that give stack, and absorb the stack. then remove the overall damage increase when attacking from behind. My idea is, Since we already have phantom blade that can give full stack if successful attacking from behind, why not make all Ciel skill stacking terror and all Lu skill absorb the stack or maybe only oriax absorb the stack while others special skill accumulate the stack. the way Lu skill absorb stack is like when you absorb Celestia Aqua stack, It will accumulate buff that stacked to a certain number then when a certain stack accumulated it's activate special effect on combination skill like, bigger apolyon, instant death on mob certain threshold with oblivion (why you guys remove this :() and maybe ignore some deff on demonic canon. If you want to keep the back attack thing, make it double sthe stack if hit from behind.

HOLY ESSAY

creeping terror can be fixed by changing a passive to where the aura buff or oriax would detonate it instead and have the detonation give a timed buff. so Cata would get an X second period of time with full stack to spam several skills.

Back attack is whats really needed to be fixed more.
