As you spend more time online, you figure out the best way to identify things that likely arent safe to download. Even big companies suffer from slip ups. Take ubisoft n rainbow 6 as an example. That was horrendous

Let me be blunt about it. CurseForge strives to publish only safe content on their platform, you should never need to worry about anything on there ever. But it is not a 0% chance totally. There is always a microscopic chance that something slips through the cracks because it is a day 0, or something incredibly well hidden. But the moment they know about that 1 mod out of thousands, they take immediate action.

This is why its really important to know ways you can be safe online, how to protect against stuff that could happen, and have protective measures in place. The best company with the safest content, can never 100% protect against everything.

But you're also on mac, and its incredibly difficult to put yourself in a bad spot there.

How to get your profile logs on CurseForge for support

1. Right-click the modpack profile icon OR click the button in the modpack profile.
2. Click Open Folder.
3. Open the logs folder.
4. Drag and drop the FILE named latest into discord.

run each of these lines one by one, hit enter each time you put one into terminal. it will not say anything, but as long as it creates a new blank line (minus your mac/username and time) we know its safe to move on.

if you see text after running one of these commands, either i've typed them wrong, or i'll have to know what the error says so we can work around it.
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/CurseForge

rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.overwolf.curseforge

rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/webcache2

Once you've done this successfully, restart your mac.

after your mac turns back on, reinstall CF - but once it loads, don't hit continue just yet. you will want to run this command in terminal.

however: if you see a y/n question in the terminal after entering your password requesting to restart, press Y. This command will reset any access to folders or permissions that might be messed up. You should have normal admin access after this, and nothing should block CF or the MC it generates.

diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u`

if it does not restart automatically after running, please close terminal, wait a minute, and then restart. I don't run this command in my video, as im on Sonoma and my OS version doesn't suffer from the additional weird permissions blocking that Sequoia/Tahoe does.

i'm currently watching a streamer (baron of something) playing a horror mod called "flywheel of terror". the dude just recently learned that the mod had been removed from curseforge (the page for the mod has been changed to a 404 page). as a result, the streamer in question is now terrified the mod is some sort virus/contains explicit material. does anyone on the curseforge have an answer as to why the mod was removed and whether or not the streamer needs to stop playing immediately?

There's a number of reasons a mod can be removed from Curseforge. Sometimes its the choice of the author, could be copyright or some other issue with the mod itself. While the volunteers here wouldn't have a definite answer to why its been removed directly, its really unlikely it was due to something malicious.

Tl;dr it was likely due to some other external issue. I wouldn't worry too much about it being malicious.

I use real servers instead as they are a lot more stable and allow you to actually control what they are doing and who all can see / connect vs bouncing your connection around multiple servers owned by god knows who to attempt to connect you with your friends.

Lan and Modded MC has never worked all that well, as Minecraft's LAN was really only built to support Vanilla. Modded introduces a lot more files that may need to be synced per player, this can be taxing on a lan connection, due to the host needing to work double time (or more depending on player count)

Easiest fix: make a local server and join it !mc-univ OR rent/find a server online to join.
