There is a option in the profile to update the Minecraft version. However doing so will likely remove many mods, break the world completely, and is likely to crash the modpack.

If you are only using shader, then you should be fine to update.

2. Click the Open Modding folder button
3. Open the Install folder
4. Drag the launcher_log.txt file into discord. If there are multiple only send the one without a number in its name

You can use the "Mojang launcher" feature in the app settings and change it in the Mojang launcher configuration everytime you run the game to use Java 17.

If it's crashing due to mixin java compatibilities, you will need to open the jar file of every mods and change every mixins to use Java 17. Then it's not impossible every other mods start to crash or refuse to launch because they were made with Java 8.

And then, you might see some ingame issues with some mods or with Vanilla itself as they were made with Java 8. In general this should be fine if the game launch, but issues can arise. The vast majority of mod developers and modloader developers/contributors that I saw talking about this subject, do not recommend doing so.

I even once suggested to add a option for people in your case so you can make 1.16.5 and below use Java 17. A modloader contributor told me it's not normal to do it and should probably not be a feature

I wonder if it is somehow possible to be able to input a custom java 25 version for minecraft version 1.20.1 in the curseforge options so it works automatically and doesn't require manual selection everytime you start minecraft. The problem is that 1.20.1 uses the java 17 version as default and therefore uses the java 17 curseforge setting under the minecraft options where you can select a custom java version.

It wouldnt be a problem if curseforge would not hand out an error message if you want to input any other version like e.g. a custom java 25 version in there, which would make 1.20.1 run on java 25 on default. That's really annoying bc if I did not missed anything there is other than that nothing to potentially make the java version 25 default for 1.20.1.

The irony is that java 25 works perfectly for 1.20.1 and brings a lot of improvements that are really needed in a big modpack. It actually solves a huge problem which is the garbage collector. Since java 21 there is a new garbage collector called zgc that uses more ram but dramatically reduces lag spikes and increases performance. Java 25 enhanced this garbage collector even further and therefore provides even higher performance benefits.

That's why many people nowadays want to make use of the performance benefits and use java 25 for their modpack. Currently to make use of it if there really is no other option, is only to go in the minecraft launcher settings and manually select the custom java 25 version everytime you start the modpack. It cost some seconds but adds up over time and is really annoying.

Therefore I wonder if there is any other way on curseforge to allow the use of java 25 for minecraft version 1.20.1 automatically, so you don't have to manually select the custom java 25 everytime? I really appreciate help, and if there is no option please treat this as feedback to forward to the dev team to potentially make this an option in the future, if any in the discord has the power to do so.

  Quick checks (just to confirm)
  If you want to be thorough, you can try:
• Searching on the website vs the app
• Logging out/in
• Switching to a different Minecraft version filter
• Searching with no filters at all
  But realistically, none of these fix it right now — the issue is on their end.
  What you can actually do
• Use Modrinth temporarily if you need to find a specific mod by name.
• If you know the author, search by author name instead — that sometimes still works.
• If you want, I can help you track down the mod manually.

  So when you upload your file, it matches the hash of a previously uploaded one — and gets flagged

You cant, you would need to upload the pack to an app that supports both CF and Modrinth profiles (Prism, GDLauncher, ATLauncher) then export from there using the CF supported export

Hi, I need help with CurseForge not launching Minecraft.

Both CurseForge and vanilla Minecraft were stuck on “Downloading v1.20.1 package” for several minutes.
Vanilla Minecraft now launches instantly after a full DNS + network reset, but CurseForge is still stuck on “Launching game…” and never starts javaw.exe.

Things I already tried:

• Full CurseForge launcher purge
• Deleted runtime folder
• Reset DNS, Winsock, IP stack, firewall
• Allowed Java, CurseForge, and Overwolf through firewall
• Reinstalled Java 17 (Adoptium)
• Vanilla Minecraft works normally

CurseForge still does not download or launch the game. It stays on “Launching game…” forever.

I think the issue is with CurseForge’s runtime mapping or the Java path not being detected correctly.

Can you help me fix the CurseForge launcher so it uses my system Java 17 or downloads the correct runtime?

Hello! I’ve been having a problem with trying to launch mods/mod packs that I have installed. Every time I try to play, it brings me back to the Minecraft launcher page and gives me Exit code 1. On Curseforge Support, it said to run a custom profile without any mods installed, so I did that and the game still crashed. It says that it is an issue with either the mod loader or the game if this is the case. I’m not sure how to proceed from here.

Hello please, I have some very weird problem. Before I noticed that in CurseForge app I can switch between Classic, TBC and Retail in top right corner, I tried to make my Own Custom Group in classic section, put all my addons there. But then I noticed that topright button, so tried to delete my custom group. When I tried, it even said that all addons will be moved back to My Addons tab, and nothing will be deleted. After I did that, it said that I need to scan my folder, as 0 addons showed. I did scan, since then it shows only 4 addons. Even tho 41 installed, and scan sais it scanned 41 sucessfuly, tho it shows only 4 in the app. If I go browse addons, they act as installed, but in my addons section, there are just 4/41 addons showing.

Tried to restart PC, tried to reinstal curseforge, tried to move addons folder out, scan, put back, scan. NOTHING worked

when backtracking what I did, i went to modpack itself, went under versions and installed the latest one. both that and the version under it were installed at the same time for a brief moment until the older one got deleted. Then I went back and checked my modpacks and it vanished.

I have an issue with curseforge trying to download mods into the wrong folder, even tho I had changed it, (and it seemed to work at least when updating a mod pack).

Hello! 63 addons loaded successfully. Does not seem like it did. I tried straight up copying all the addons from classic_era folder to anniversary folder. Only some addons showed up in the anniversary addon menu. I tried using the sync feature to sync the addons to anniversary, but I'm not sure that works, or even exactly how the sync function works.
I tried making a group in classic_era, and all my addons went there. I deleted that group after seeing that it did not copy my addons aswell, and got a pop-up saying "all your addons will be moved to my addons". but the addons are gone.
Scanning the addons folder gives this little pop-up saying the addons are loaded, but they're not in the menu.
Can I get help with this?

If Minecraft will not start then use the tool linked at the bottom!

1. Start the modpack you wish to fix. If it will not start, then click the in the top right of the app then select Run Vanilla Minecraft. In the launcher that opens, go to the Installations tab and choose New Installation. Choose a name and select the Minecraft version of the modpack you are trying to run (like 1.19.4 or 1.7.10). Once created play it by clicking the green Play button that appears when hovering over it in the list of installations.
2. Open Task Manager while Minecraft is running (Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager)
3. Find minecraft in that list. It will be called something like "Java" or "OpenJDK Binary". (tip: sort by ram usage by clicking on the "Memory" tab. Minecraft uses a lot of ram so will be at the top)
4. Right click it and Open File Location
5. Copy the file path from Windows Explorer by clicking into the address bar and pressing Ctrl + C
6. Press and type in GPU, then press Enter to open Graphics Settings
7. Under Graphics performance preference select Desktop App
8. Click Browse
9. Click the address bar and paste in the folder location you copied by pressing Ctrl + V, then press Enter
10. Select the javaw or javaw.exe file from the files in front of you (tip: press J to immediately jump to the files that start with that letter)
11. Once selected, click Add in the bottom right of the window
12. Click the Options button on the newly added option
13. Set it to High performance on the best GPU you have
