Hi folks;
I got a new computer and manually copied several Minecraft instances from the minecraft\Instances folder on the old one to the new one.
The instances that were not in modpack groups showed up fine. The ones that were in modpack groups do not show.
I tried closing the app and deleting the minecraftinstance.json of a missing one (and .curseclient) (after backing them up of course). That did not rectify. I tried creating modpack groups with the same name and closing/reopening; that also did not work. I found the group id in \AppData\Roaming\CurseForge\agent\GameInstances\groups.json and edited the instance minecraftinstance.json to have that ID. No luck

So...any idea how to get those instances to show in the curseforge app?

1/Remove the group ID json element from each affected instance
2/delete (or rename) \AppData\Roaming\CurseForge\agent\GameInstances\MinecraftGameInstance.json so that it will re generate

Hello, i just hostet a server to play minecraft atm 10 and it just worked fine with curseforge but my friend (he is using mac os) has some issues: he downloaded curseforge app on his device and also downloaded atm 10 but when he presses play it opns the minecraft launcher and it doesnt show atm 10 to play it just shows latest release and the latest version but thus obviously doesnt work. Can someone help me with Minecraft I made a own Modpack and tried to install some shaders it shows up in the settings menu but when I applie the shader it don’t work

rephrasing the issue I had above, as I think I explained it poorly before.
On my old computer I had a number of curseforge modpack instances for minecraft. I have to move to a new computer, so I copied all folders out of instances and put them in the instances folder of the new computer.
Most of the instances (really IIRC just the ones that were in modpack groups) don't show up, now. How can I get the missing ones to show up?
Someone suggested changing the minecraft install dir in curseforge settings. That did not solve.
Would I be better off

1. deleting one or more files (if so, which ones? suspects include .curseclient and/or minecraftinstance.json, but honestly I did try that a few times and it didn't seem to help (so I returned the backed up versions of them)
2. Creating group(s) and finding their IDs and editing minecraftinstance.json of missing instances, to put those IDs in there? I think I tried that and it didn't work but I could give it another go
3. Finding GroupID in minecraftinstance.json, and setting it to null (that seemed to work for some but not others?)
4. Something else?

I am a modpack developer. I have been hosting servers for 15 years. It is seriously annoying when Curseforge decides to spontaneously remove all of my settings and forget where my instances are installed. It's a waste of my time having to correct the application every time I decide to spend some time working on my mods. I have antivirus exceptions for work folders and use windows 10 LTSC. I literally have a whole drive dedicated just to my modding work. I used to be able to direct Curseforge related data, whether application or instance related, to this particular drive. Windows UAC and folder ownership settings can be problematic, so having a dedicated installation on a separate drive helps me maintain work consistency and my sanity by not having to fix things every time I find the time to work on my hobby.

I am aware of this and obviously know exactly where my own folders and backups are. I am just tired of having to tell Curseforge where everything is every time I open the application. As far as I'm aware you cannot change the location of the application directly because that was causing too much issues, if I understood correctly. I do believe Windows do not behave exactly the same with secondary drives and in some circumstances this is causing issues with some applications.

Every time you want to play one of the modpacks you had installed, you can create a new profile with the same game version and modloader. Then paste the content of the modpack into this new profile

How to install mods in the CurseForge App

1. Click + Create Custom Profile
2. Name it, select the required Minecraft version, select the modloader & modloader version (usually the highest number), click Create.

4. Click Add More Content
5. Search and install the desired mods.

Vanilla is the game without loader and without mods.

Forge, NeoForge, Fabric, Quilt, are separate APIs to load mods inside the game. A mod jar while only be build to support one of them at the time.

If you are playing 1.20.X and below, the most popular is Forge and Fabric.
If you are playing 1.21.X and above, the most popular is NeoForge and Fabric.

I think it's best to get straight up on the point. What happens if you create the modpack/profile, add the mod with the previous instructions, and click play -> launch the game?
