How to set Minecraft to use the correct GPU in Windows

If Minecraft will not start then use the tool linked at the bottom!

1. Start the modpack you wish to fix. If it will not start, then click the in the top right of the app then select Run Vanilla Minecraft. In the launcher that opens, go to the Installations tab and choose New Installation. Choose a name and select the Minecraft version of the modpack you are trying to run (like 1.19.4 or 1.7.10). Once created play it by clicking the green Play button that appears when hovering over it in the list of installations.
2. Open Task Manager while Minecraft is running (Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager)
3. Find minecraft in that list. It will be called something like "Java" or "OpenJDK Binary". (tip: sort by ram usage by clicking on the "Memory" tab. Minecraft uses a lot of ram so will be at the top)
4. Right click it and Open File Location
5. Copy the file path from Windows Explorer by clicking into the address bar and pressing Ctrl + C
6. Press and type in GPU, then press Enter to open Graphics Settings
7. Under Graphics performance preference select Desktop App
8. Click Browse
9. Click the address bar and paste in the folder location you copied by pressing Ctrl + V, then press Enter
10. Select the javaw or javaw.exe file from the files in front of you (tip: press J to immediately jump to the files that start with that letter)
11. Once selected, click Add in the bottom right of the window
12. Click the Options button on the newly added option
13. Set it to High performance on the best GPU you have

Hey folks maybe someone can help me with my issue I've got. I've been using Curseforge for some time and ever since they made the ads bigger on the right side of the app, it's made the UI and the entire app Extremely Laggy for me and my low end device. Besides getting premium; Is there a way to make the app run smooth again? When the ads we're less focused and didn't take 1/4ths of the screen up, The app ran like a dream, the UI Was quick and above all, it didn't cause minecraft to crash while I had curseforge open.

Only reason I'm asking for help now is just about 15 mins ago, I was playing a modppack to test a bug out and I had the app open in the background; while I was testing My pc forced a restart saying "your device ran into a problem and needs to restart". It's the first time it's ever happened to me and it's freaked me out. I did a run through of my pc and it's completely clean and runs fine with everything else on my pc.

If I could get some help with this it would keep me from crashing and looking for an alternative to curseforge. Plz and thank you!

The CF app doesnt just zip the files, it puts the mods that are from the CF site in a manifest file, which the app uses to know what mods to download when you import the zip into the app.

If you manually zip the packs folder, you wont be able to use the CF apps import button, you will have to manaully make a custom profile then move all the files over. This may or may not work properly

In the CF app click the beside the play button > then click Repair Profile

Once its done repairing try opening the export menu again

Hey so I am a bit confused about how to configure curseforge mods. I am looking at the DistantHorizons mod, which claims to support fabric, forge, and neoforge. However, I cannot change the mod loader to anything other than fabric. Am I misunderstanding something?

I have the same trouble for Iris Shaders mod, but in reverse (it says it supports fabric, but wont allow me to select anything other than neoforge).

the reason why distant horizons doesn't appear for 1.21.1 is because it is an alpha file. you would need to get it manually. only mods with release or beta appear in the app

E4mc is a Lan mod, so the server is only active when you are playing in order to host it, but it allows for pretty smooth connectivity

It's better for smaller groups of 2-4 players as it relies on your own internet

Its has to do with how Java edition works. The game only uses 1 cpu core. and depending on the version it doesnt multithread all that well. Java edition will also try to proccess both used and unused ram.

Meaning that the more ram you give the game, the more that has to be processes through 1 cpu core. This can put extra stess on the cpu. Think of it like a stress test, but on 1 cpu core

Javas garbage collection that is built into the game isnt all that great either, soooo say a mod(s) has a memory leak, throwing more ram at it just feeds the leak, and you wont get that ram back till the game is fully closed.

MC java takes and holds any ram given too it and will not share with the rest of the pc till the process is dead

CF added a skip the mojnag launcher feature, meaning you can log into the CF app itself (Still authenticates with Microsofts servers) and skip the need to press play > open the mc launcher CF provides > loging to that >then press play to open the game.

The skip the launcher option also opened the option to make modpack desktop icons instead of opening cf everytime.

You can go back to the mojang launcher option in > minecraft tab > Launcher settings > Mojang Launcher option

If Minecraft will not start then use the tool linked at the bottom!

1. Start the modpack you wish to fix. If it will not start, then click the in the top right of the app then select Run Vanilla Minecraft. In the launcher that opens, go to the Installations tab and choose New Installation. Choose a name and select the Minecraft version of the modpack you are trying to run (like 1.19.4 or 1.7.10). Once created play it by clicking the green Play button that appears when hovering over it in the list of installations.
2. Open Task Manager while Minecraft is running (Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager)
3. Find minecraft in that list. It will be called something like "Java" or "OpenJDK Binary". (tip: sort by ram usage by clicking on the "Memory" tab. Minecraft uses a lot of ram so will be at the top)

5. Copy the file path from Windows Explorer by clicking into the address bar and pressing Ctrl + C

you can lock modpacks locally so they cant be edited, using the allow content management tickbox in each profile's options. this does not affect anyone else.
you cannot pin modpakcs, but you can sort by recently used and some other things
there is not a supported way to install mods into an unsupported profile
it just deletes the .jar. it is not possible for cf to tell what files are that mods and what are not
logging in doesnt do much, i believe at the moment it might let you comment from the app and thats it. there is no sync except for wow addons
