How to set Minecraft to use the correct GPU in Windows

If Minecraft will not start then use the tool linked at the bottom!

1. Open Task Manager while Minecraft is running (Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager)
2. Find minecraft in that list. It will be called something like "Java" or "OpenJDK Binary". (tip: sort by ram usage by clicking on the "Memory" tab. Minecraft uses a lot of ram so will be at the top)
3. Right click it and Open File Location
4. Copy the file path from Windows Explorer by clicking into the address bar and pressing Ctrl + C
5. Press and type in GPU, then press Enter to open Graphics Settings
6. Under Graphics performance preference select Desktop App
7. Click Browse
8. Click the address bar and paste in the folder location you copied by pressing Ctrl + V, then press Enter
9. Select the javaw or javaw.exe file from the files in front of you (tip: press J to immediately jump to the files that start with that letter)
10. Once selected, click Add in the bottom right of the window
11. Click the Options button on the newly added option
12. Set it to High performance on the best GPU you have

merging packs you didnt make is a bad idea. Can lead to issues with hours/days/weeks worth of troubleshooting. Specially if your not the dev of the 2 packs (we dont know how they were made)

As for the world, would recommend a backup either way. But anything with worldgen would only spawn in new chunks. Meaning if you explored a lot, youll have to explore further...

Hello, I really need help right now, I am completely stumped as i have tried everything I know to fix this.

A couple months ago, forge just stopped working entirely. Everytime I opened it I got "error code 0". So, I asked my father, who is a tech expert to help. And after a bit, he fixed it up and updated the graphics drivers, which worked. For a week. Then I started getting that message again. My father then spent the next 4 days trying to fix it, and ended up giving up because he could not find a good reason as to why or how this was happening, or how to fix it.

I recently just factory reset my entire computer, everything got whiped. So i tried again, and got the exact same message.

I'm having issues getting minecraft launched from Curseforge on my M3 mac. I'm trying to install shaders and while Curseforge has no problem installing the shaders, when I click Play I get the following error: "Unable to start Minecraft, if you are running from a dmg, please drag to Applications and try again." I understand that Curseforge is attempting to launch from the Curseforge folder in my Documents folder rather than use the launcher that's in my Applications folder. If I use the launcher in my Applications folder, neither Forge nor the shaders are available. If I copy the launcher from the Curseforge to Apps, same deal. Anyone have a recommendation? Do I need to change a path somewhere?

The app itself will get installed in C:, but you can change the modding folder to D:

Mostly because of folder permissions being a hassle in windows.
It gets installed into the user folder, because Windows gives you the permission to do that, without having to be an administrator.
It's like getting your own little sandbox to play in.

How does RAM allocation to minecraft modpacks work? Why does allocating more RAM to a modpack sometimes reduce it's performance? Should'nt it do the opposite? How do I figure out the optimal RAM allocation for the modpacks I play?

Usually between 4-8GB is recommended, because too much will cause something called "Garbage collection", and with huge amounts of memory, comes huges amounts of garbage collection.

I have modified a modpack from curseforge and added some mods while removing others. I am going to create a server and would like to know the most convenient way to install the mods for each person without them having to go into the files folder and manually delete and add mods. Is there a way they can install the modified profile from a .zip file? When I export it with the modifications from the CurseForge app into a .zip and try to import the profile again, the mods I added do not load in the profile's mods folder, nor are the ones I removed deleted; the folder remains as the original modpack without modifications.

Do it manually install forge 1.12.2 :

Start your server once :

java -jar <forge_server_file>.jar

Your windows defender must have a setting that is removing things, or your windows user may not have the right permissions to install programs, or you may have an antivirus program removing it accidentally

Reinstalling cf likely wont get the right folders as the java part is saved with the game files. Which arent deleted on app reinstall. (Would delete your modpacks)
