I would recommend once you have it installed to do a RESTART of your machine. Not a shut down and power back on... a RESTART

You would need to make a whole new custom profile, reinstall the mods IF they are available, then copy (dont cut/move) the world from the old version to the new.

Copying allows you to keep a working backup incase the update introduced some changes that could break things.

Something to note with piracy launchers, they may not be the thing that have the malware, but the tool used to install the malware without your consent. 1. You can rename the file.
2. Open the jar file -> META-INF folder -> open the mods.toml or neoforge.mod.toml (not sure how it's called in NeoForge but it's pretty recognizable) file.
3. Change the mod id, display name, and everything related to the original name, and delete "logoFile" if there is any.

If done properly, it's unlikely to break the mod and should make it hard to understand what the original mod is for the common player

there's nothing special about 7zip that opens jar files, you just dont by default have windows file associations with jar files being archives

you're just describing what windows has set as what to use by default for a file. you can always instead right click a file and use whatever context to access a file is available
