if you want to play modpacks offline, I suggest launching it, and just sitting through the minecraft launcher load screen, you eventually will be able to play offline. I tested it, and I got the game launched

It's also causing ingame issues, and there is instances of the mod bypassing vanilla ban and commands. Essential proven this is possible to join random multiplayer servers (which doesn't use Essential) and bypass the commands & become immortal meaning the admins and console cannot ban you.

You needed the servers to be up in order to install required files. Not directly to load the game

it checks for your profile unless you run it in offline mode, that needs the servers

Yes, this is true if you want to play online. But the servers that checks the profile is not necesserily the same one checking for multiplayer authentifications
