if there isn't a way to do this automatically, what's the simple way to do it manually? i don't want to lose my settings and all from the previous modpack

You would need to make a new custom profile if you want to change the minecraft version.
Then reinstall all the mods IF they are avaliable for the new mc version. As mods are built for specific mc versions and modloaders
Might be able to copy over things like keybinds or worlds, but it depends on how big of a jump your making and what code changes happened between those versions.
Keep backups to be extra safe

Eventually I started with recipy changes, then moved to making custom items, eventually blocks. Then datapacks. Then earlier this year when I learned how to make custom biomes and world gen I took the leap to making my first mod (not released)
I probably started learning Kubejs a few years ago. Its opened A LOT of doors for me now as a pack dev
