i exported a file of a modded profile, im trying to add it to a aternos server, but its a "zipped" file and it keeps saying "invalid resource file" so i went into the mods and started adding every mod one by one, will that work or? i wanna make a modded server for me and my friends but im having a hard time

Exported modpacks from the cf app can only be used by applications that support the pack zips. They dont usually work for servers as all that is in the zip file is any config files and a manifest with all the mods info. No actual mod jars

Well.. I have a major issue with it.. that now has me in search of a different modpack to play. Looking for suggestions...
The issue is that they have "Chickens" mod included. If you do the chickens then you quickly have access to all the resources.. I had a netherite chicken in just a few hours. So then I go to setup power and realize.. what do I need power for now? Why would I need machines.. there is no ore to mine and I now have all the resources I need... So I don't need to build factories for processing which means I don't need power... See where I am going here... it deflated the entire experience quickly.
So.. I am looking for a modpack that has progression and sort of gate locked so you can't blow through it. Not extremely difficult as one of the players in my group is not that experienced and still learning. Thoughts? Suggestions?

forge is a modloader. they publish it on the internet on a website of theirs, but other places can take those availailable files and automate profile making like curseforge does.

I dont know what my problem is. I have curseforge installed and am now trying to install forge. Any time I download forge and try to open it, a black box appears and then goes away, and nothing happens. I am using java to open the forge installer.

More or less, some people have made a setup-script that you can use, or provided a readme-file, telling the users what modloader/server to install and things like that.
I just use my own tool that takes an existing modpack (currently needs to be public on CurseForge for it to work), and makes a server out of it, as good as it can. (Need to strip clientside mods)

Yeah, to some extent at least, might be things not working as they should, but when people poke me about it, I usually can fix the issue with the tool in a few days (depending on how much I have to do at work)
That said, some mods might be needed to be downloaded manually, as they have turned off distribution for 3rd party tools like this, but links to the correct files should be provided, so that it's easy to download them.
But client side mods for now, needs to be removed as well, manually.

if you are looking for a free option for a modded server then i would recomend Aternos, i use it all the time but you have to use the on site thing for mods, you cant just put you own files in

Essential - Uses a protocol that forcefully punches holes in your firewall, without user consent, and if that fails connects to a unknown server to reroute your "psudo-lan"

exaroton is a really good option if you want something you can play on with your friends and its also extremely cheap, this is because its about 50 cents per hour its online and you can make it automaticly shut off after 10 minutes. you can also run mods and pluggins. Ill activate the server once you join it. Its definetly not the option if you want a server up and running all the time but its definitley not a bad option.

The only tenitive link this has to CurseForge is that pixelmon is hosted on curseforge, so surely they must be suggesting people to download the mod from CurseForge.. Nope, wait.. no they don't do that even. It suggests going to Pixelmon's official website to download it.

**Ethical Issues**
Gaming of recently has sought to do anything possible to exploit players. Overwolf itself invested into NFT's at the beginning of 2022 and sought to integrate it into more games. <https://www.nftgators.com/syn-city-and-overwolf-guild-team-up-to-introduce-user-generated-content-in-p2e-games/>.I don't think I should have to explain how throwing cash shops infront of children affects them and their parents, and Overwolf is perfectly fine with what will result from this. For a company that prides themselves as being "for gamers" this is kind of dispicable behavior.
So, the results?
The CurseForge server list is just a lame attempt at getting people to install the Tebex webshop software so Overwolf can profit from it. This does nothing to enhance the player experance. This also has nothing to do with what a list of servers CurseForge should be providing to it's users. None of these servers host mods, or even link back to CurseForge. Where is the list of servers that people who use CurseForge actually want?
