So, right now, when you send one of your crew members out to recover a derelict ship, one of two events happen:
- A) The ship malfunctions, and the crew member gets injured and put on leave.
- B) The ship boots up successfully, and the crew member brings the ship back to Enceladus Station.
Event A seems much more likely to happen, from experience, and this can be quite frustrating, especially if it's a vital crew member like the geologist or mechanic. Having more control over who attempts the rescue would be nice, but that's not actually what I wanted to suggest in the first place.
My idea is to add a third event, to make it more attractive to attempt a ship rescue when you don't have a manipulator (I'll also add my suggested likelihood percentages):
- A, 35%) The ship malfunctions, and the crew member gets injured and put on leave.
- B, 20%) The ship boots up successfully, and the crew member brings the ship back to Enceladus Station.
- C, 45%) The ship malfunctions, but does not injure the crew member, nor put him on leave.
The addition of this third event would make it less risky to attempt a rescue, whilst not affecting the success rate of getting a functional ship back to the station. A sample dialogue message after the ship malfunctions could be something like this:
"Looks like the nav panel got toasted, this hunk of junk ain't going nowhere. I'm headed back to the barn."
