Once the manipulator arm grabs a ship, it would be great to be able to loxk the arm in place and also stop the ship from spinning.

To ballance this, rapid acceleration could damage the arm.

the thing is you are trying to hold a weight of over 30 tons using that arm. locking it in place would almost certainly cause damage the second you tried to stop that other ship a little too hard.

it doesn't have to be completely rigid, in general it would be nice if there was something stronger than the regular arm for things like pushing ringroids around
maybe if there was an upgraded version you could get from talking to salvage ops, or some kind of bumper with springs so that it wouldn't break your ship or the roid when you try to push it?
shoving roids at stations or ships could be an interesting mechanic in combat, or you could push them into each other for mining purposes

Maybe an arm with two grabby hands? Keep ship from spinning at least.

the arm already has at least 2 electric motors, it seems reasonable to have an upgraded version that adds an extra motor to the “hand” to slow its spinning
