The shipyard is a station you can find deep in the rings where you can buy brand new ships, you can't sell ships there and if the shop you want isn't there you can order them to make it over a few days to wraps

This is a very cool idea

maybe even instead of paying you just deliver vast amounts of ores

or pay a medium amount and deliver ores

Or processed materials

Sounds like a decent place to introduce special variants of ships that don't appear at the dealership, be it current or future ones. Having the shipyard so deep in the sector will make finding the shipyard feel like a reward even if you have to pay to obtain the ship in the end.
Only one ship is for sale when you find it, but it's guaranteed to be as said above, it behaves like drop points as in the coordinates don't update on revisiting the shipyard. You can dock for a round of drinks and some minor repairs, as well as having the opportunity to talk with them again.

I think the cords should update, that way every few weeks the ship can be changed out and you won't have to spend potentially hours hunting

The shipyard will have brand new ships and if the ship you want isn't there you can ask them to make it (takes a few in-game days)

#

And yes, there is probably a bar in there

Also you get to name it since it’s a new ship maybe?

There's a junkyard suggestion up somewhere; a moonlet-like structure you'd have to navigate, where you can buy access to haul out a ship; maybe get variants or find equipment that you can't unlock any other way.

Oh I like that idea too. Could also probably be a hive for pirates if there’s unique equipment

I'm thinking more like a classic junkyard; not illegal tech, just some guy collecting all the scrap he can lay hands on, where sometimes you can find parts that are a killer to get any other way.

#

If we get something like a black market and grey legality going on, the Space Bar is probably a good source.

Probably a lower chance. Like the K44 chances now, except some things you find there you are unlikely to find floating free. He hoards the treasures more than the scrap.

#

Like, you might find some illegal equipment that's unregulated because it predates the regulations.

Maybe if he likes you he lets you buy the Treasures And one way to get on his good side is to tell him about something shiny he left in with the Trash. He likes your honesty

Well, he's a businessman, you'd always be able to buy what he's selling, but in my imagining you paid for access each visit, and you didn't know what was in there before you got in.

And then there's a fake scrap collector who acts the same, but lures you in to start shooting at you

I mean, it'd be kind of hard to fake having a big facility in space without a big facility in space. My thinking originally was to give the player something to need to manuever around, like the moonlet provides.

#

The idea being that it's just a bunch of junked ships lashed together to enclose the space.
