The crew portraits we currently have in the vanilla dV are in a bit mixed styles. Most of them are in a "realistic painting" category. I could quite easily adjust them to be photorealistic instead. This would not really change anything, except the aesthetics of the game. Current and proposed portraits attached.
#More realistic crew portraits.

I'm ngl, I love the current art style. I'd like to keep it as at least an option.
I say that, I usually just use anthropogenesis actually
Personally, to avoid any uncanniness, I think I would avoid trying for too real. I notice that this fixes her odd earring though, and I can't complain with fixing problems in the AI gen, but I suspect that can't be separated from the process.
Im not sure about changing the portraits.
Stuff like the ear ring could be fixed via photoshop.
Maybe chuck a couple more through the ai (if thats not too difficult or time consuming) and show us a few more?
Fixing that many portraits by hand is more time-consuming than running it through an AI, though, and I'd really prefer that time go towards making features than tweaking cosmetics by hand.
But mainly, if you get too photoreal, you'll start hitting the uncanny valley on some portraits, and for that reason I think staying stylized might be better.
fair enough
i like both styles above so i dont mind
I dont like the current style because it feels too uncanny, but that just looks even move uncanny
I like the actual style, and would rather keep it than move to photorealistic. I think goes best with the general style of the game.
The current style is pretty good and avoids the uncanny valley so far as I've seen.
My only issue with it is some portraits look way too yellow, like they came from the simpsons.
In my headcanon, they're photoshopped to make a big deal that they're rich and privileged Earthborn.
