i would like to be the only one in charge of my zoom level at all times this constant zooming in and out all the time is very undesired.

Yeah, there's a slow zoom-in that tends to happen on its own. I think it might be conditional based on how fast you're moving. I'm pretty sure additional work on the camera and exploding it into separate settings is in the plans somewhere.

TWIW the smooth/smart camera zoom is based on the kinetic energy of things moving around you. It's designed to give you a heads-up when something comes fast towards you.
Oh, I remembered one extra feature: when you have a mouse button pressed (either left or right), the zoom is locked out. But that's probably not what you wanted here.
