So how do you build Aries?
It has a very distinct playstyle and I have some trouble finding fitting talents for this one. I may go full universal talents like Grease Monkey/Walking armory. The only one that really does add something to the playstyle is drone commander 1 and I don't feel like it adds a lot
I think there is also some synergy between Walking armory Jager and Executioner rocket but that's it
I also want to check out arquebus voidbeam, but it is superheavy so action economy gets very tight
I presume it would look good on Engineering builds but I can't afford that rn since I expect our DM to hit us hard - thus I went full Hull instead. I think it's best to pick up later, LL6 or even LL9 to have Heatfall Coolant System core bonus to make Overcharge kinda free

I believe the way the core passive rockets work/get deployed has changed a bit since I played her. I honestly didn't end up using the stuff from my build that much as I popped the core power and ended up devoting a decent amount of my action economy and the sort to that

the current mechanism in the document is to take advantage of the stabilize thing you can spam
so while stabilizing (and egtting a ton of other effects) you get missiles
in addition to generally spamming saves
since the missiles act as +1 difficulty hammers

I'm a huge Armored Core 6 fan. It's actually the very thing that made me curious about trying out Lancer.
And with Leo... Well, when W1nter7 showed me 'BLACKWALL' on his Canto-6 cyberdeck he wanted to bring in my campaign, as a huge Cyberpunk 2077 fan as well and huge Canto 6 and Blackwall fan in particular, I knew instantly I want him to bring it into my campaign
The campaign itself is Cyberpunk-ish as well so it fits really good
So you could say we joined for the vibes and stayed for the gameplay. W1nter7 loves Leo and I feel, as a huge Iskander/Goblin fan, I'm going to love Aries too
I havent played cyberpunk tbh (mainly due to device being too weak) but I REALLY love the aestetic and know a lot about that game and would LOVE to play it someday, so Leo naturally got my interest, HOWEVER, I really enjoy gameplay of Lancer and Leo seemed really peak becides references. Huge variety of avaliable playstyles, ability to mix them without any trouble, and it's just so peak that you can do so many different things, on one frame, while being 1/2 size spawning it whenether you want and just fighting mechs while being smol guy with some really fcking legendary weapons.
...and the whole mech being just an extension of your body is cool :P

Our sessions got a bit delayed, but I've just finished a mission so I will share my thoughts now. First, here is a build i've ended up using. The main idea was to spam swarm missiles every turn and reload 051ANNR if I was brave enough to overcharge and use it after using swarm missiles

I want to emphasize that this wasn't the easiest of missions, there were a lot of tough enemies - I ended the mission with 0 Rep cap left, 6 hp and 1 structure
Panic button. I had access to it every fight since I got Structure damage every fight, but I've found it difficult to use without damaging my allies. Burst 3 area on Size 3 mech is a lot. But even then it was incredibly satisfying to land it in the end and +1 Repair cap literally made the difference between my mech getting destroyed and remaining on 6 hp
Now that I think about it Bullet time could be a better choice. Even if I didn't need to teleport, lock on could be useful for extra damage and some synergies with Drone commander
One could argue that I should've taken Favor from the inside to get access to Arquebus Voidbeam but with 6 heatcap I couldn't quite use it safely
Ace 3. Now, one thing that was going my way is the fact that we were fighting in space. My built in hovering abilities and built in EVA helped me out a lot and it was fun to use Ace every now and then to use my fast allies at the start to get into the fight quickly
I haven't used Stormbringer 3 because my action economy was too tight to include usage of Prometheum greatblade. And when I did at the very end I forgot I had Stormbringer 3 :P
Drone Commander 1 was useful to get around enemies and make missiles hit sooner
Also the fact that we were in space meant I wasn't taking 1 heat every time I used my Ace since flying doesn't cost heat in space
Now to the swarm missiles themselves. Yet again, Burst 2 explosion was very nice to hit a lot of enemies but it was as effective in hitting my melee loving teammates. I really had to get far into the enemy ranks to make sure I wasn't hitting them.
1d6+2 feels justified since that is potential 2d6+4 per turn in Burst 2, which is a lot, but in my experience that was 3-5 damage per missile swarm to single enemy (that is if they didn't dodge), which feels kinda meh compared to my allies hitting 10-20 damage per turn on single enemy
Maybe AOE aspect of it makes up for it, but i'm not sure. It's not really a weapon so you can't add extra modifiers to it like Overpower caliber or Nuclear Cavalier and others
Having 12 Save target felt bad as someone who constantly asks for Saves. I think this frame could benefit greatly from having baseline 12 Save target, the same as Iskander.
There also was a weird interaction in Space. My DM told me that you can't get knocked prone in space, which means enemies could dodge swarms indefinitely. In the end he decided to be a nice guy and just eat the damage itself.
Core power.
It was incredibly satisfying to spawn 6 swarms to destroy enemy Bastion, force structure damage on enemy veteran elite commander sniper and damage their scout as well. Absolutely love it.
051ANNR isn't part of Aries kit but since it's loading and I reload loading every turn it was a very nice addition with nice damage for cases when swarms were not an option
Prometheum greatblade. Since my only option to gather excess thermal energy was to force prone on enemies and that wasn't an option entirely since we were in space... Well. It is still a line weapon with nice damage, can't complain at all
Phalanx twin smml. At first I thought I get to use it every time I spawn swarms but then I realized that my frame trait isn't technically a system or a weapon. Maybe drones themselves are an integrated system, I haven't thought about it until now

Not exactly, more like "someone flying can't be knocked prone". And essentially in zero-g everyone is considered to be flying.
I ended up using them with executioner rocket and... Well. My enemies just passed the saves and nothing happened. Low save target strikes again
Knocked prone didn't exist as a condition for that battle anyway. That's kinda the thing that matters

Electric cage was borderline useless for me. I was deep in the enemy ranks so I was getting hit constantly, which means I had 2 Armor for the whole battle except for the 1-2 turns at the start, when I had 3 Armor
And that concludes my commentary. Honestly, despite the battle itself being clearly not favorable to my mech, I still had a great time and I'm looking forward to using it in the future.
I admit that this wasn't the way to play this license, perhaps you want to be your party's backline and it requires a certain party too since you might find it difficult to not hit your allied melee combatants

i might've been too subtle in the actual "intent" of the missiles
firstly the burst 2 explosion only applies to enemy characters; allied characters are perfectly fine in the explosive radius
secondly the missile's purpose is closer to having 2 uses of puppet master or free main damage
in that you can push enemy characters where they don't want to be in
i.e. next to your melee friends. away from squishy allies. into traps. mines. etc
and thirdly (and counter-intuitively) you want the drones to stay alive
they act as +1 difficulty mods to your saves. boosting your effectiveness with save-based weapons like executioner rocket and phalanx twin
though it's a little difficult so i'll probably move that part into a separate trait
drones are an integrated system but i'll make the wording more clear

Aha, I see. That makes it much easier to use. Usually it is specified if you hit enemy characters or characters in general. At least that's how it was according to my memory

the push effect isn't capped
you could hypothetically ping between 2 drones forever
but the intent is that you can chain swarm missiles together
So the mark of swarm-missiles acts as +1 Difficulty just by itself

As a token of my appreciation for your help with Aries and for all the work you've done I've updated the whole lcp with information from the document
Several things I noticed:
- Pleiades seems interesting. Explosion of overpump shotgun can be dodged in game, but it's a just a tiny funny thing
- Nautilus was a hell to check for updates
- Compcon supports integrated systems now, so I tried to update Aquilla accordingly
- Aries changes are welcome, thank you
- Virgo got reworked in several places, it was an interesting surprise
- wth is Aquarius, I won't pretend I understood even a half of it when I've read through it
- In my file it's Ursa major MK II, not Ursa major Prime. That might be a mistake on my part
And one more thing. I did the update with LCP editor and I haven't properly checked it yet. There might be mistakes.
For example, there should be an undeletable weapon profile for Malorian. I'll try to fix it manually in a sec
The only way to fix it for me was just to create a totally new version of it
And delete the previous one
LCP editor is buggy as hell and that's exactly why I hate using it. But it is fast.

My main theoretical builds were weither about rapidly accelarating the missiles at enemies and stopping them from dodging the blasts via prone n stuff

havent tried new one yet, but cooking something with half aries license
new Leo is more versatile. able to be used more frequently/is more flexible
but doesn't have the teleporting utility of Old Leo
surely gonna feel lack of that fnuuy effective core power and teleports with 6 speed, but yeah it is surely feels more flexible, and you are... kinda able to pop off a lot more often than the older one I feel like

overall it may not be the most optimal build but it IS very cool

not the biggest nuke I could do but it did stress on ultra, forced him into not the best turn, and finished off seeder

It doesn't work for me as a DM. I don't know if I messed up my npcs somehow, but no matter how I rewrite my npcs witchdice has some problems with them. Compcon sees my npcs just fine...
Anything else works great though. Its a great addition for players convenience
And as a DM I can say that everything seems balanced. There are some strong options, sure, but they are not too crazy. You can definetly build something more broken by far using only core lancer content
Even when I gave Winter a powerful talent made specifically for them, I can't say that they outshine others by strength. As a DM, I couldn't ask for more
Some suggestions. Titanfall 2 (that's what introduced the genre for me), Into the Breach mechs have a lot of gimmicks which sometimes translate well into Lancer

it's mainly for balance that you don't have a weapon that can trigger roland an insane number of times per round

air cycliung is exotic for clearing heat, muramasa i just one custom weapon from our DM, name speaks for itself

i just cycled with clearing heat and supporting allies with some overshields until deadman because we were fighting veteran ultra and had extra objective in destroying some object on the map, so getting that extra structure damage was nice

well, cheap hands are surprisingly REALLY useful! giving 3 overshield for free is just nice, pair is good for heat management, two pairs are essentially guaranteed hit!
three of a kind useful in the beginning of the sitrep, in other situations - meh, not exactly the best
straight - maybe, but haven't felt like it's the best
flush - maybe, but because I was sniping did not utilise it
full house - 12 range is usually enough
four - really useful overall
straight flush - if you have a heavy hitter definetly can fish for that if opportunity presents itself
royal flush and deadman - the best hands
so with the sniper build because you get a lot of heat via lucky and generally stay far enough it is best to cycle through cheap hands, clear heat off yourself/give some overshield to allies in the frontline, guarantee hits with two pairs, maybe pull of middle hands if nessecary and try to fish for any of the big hands

getting around to looking at this, and I've fallen in love, just on a pure concept for some of them, especially in how tongue-in-cheek some of these are (the Aquarius requiring a 52 card deck to function, the Asterism having it's software designed to mine bitcoin, the Sagittarius and it's rocket jumping) it wears its inspirations on its sleeves, and it's really fun to see how you've designed these licenses. I do got a question as to what is the 'current design' is for each mech, is the lcp up to date, or the google doc?
