On the one hand the scorcher is a much better emergency spraygun and I have lots of things that punch through armor besides the scorcher

Yes. Gunsmith has a pretty neat selection and there are many fascists and bandits to shoot

The gunsmiths selection is honestly very disappointing, unless it's randomized
It is an early game area after all, and there are a few nice picks in there. But you can sidestep the need for it by rushing chests or turning the progression curve off and getting higher end stuff that way
It is very nice that it doubles as a place with a great ammo supply
Some of it is hidden and you can get an ||upgraded coilgun|| which is pretty sick

My setup is now Absurd
Heavy armor, a helmet that is the helmet spartans wear, a real sword, a sidearm that's just a 5.56 rifle, an automatic 50 cal, and a railgun

I got it out of a red chest, I assume it's very high in the loot pools
man my red chests weren't that good
If you don't mind a bit of save scumming, red chests can be rerolled by reloading the save, leaving the area and sleeping for a day.
I got an EVA helmet out of the last one I opened, which is like the only helmet I'd waste a red chest on.
Red chests are a bit fucked because they don't look for items you've never gotten, they look for items not currently in your inventory
It will even give you something you have in storage, though the dev is apparently working on that
Siris did tweak the loot tables recently to have fewer redundant items in red chests, so that helped quite a bit
One thing I think would help would be to split the loot tables entirely and have rare armor lockers and rare weapon chests.
Ok in fairness my current gear is quite good
70% kinetic resist lets me tank quite a bit of gunfire
And the stopwatch is broken
I found one completely by chance at the very beginning of my playthrough, before even getting either of the eather scanners.
I have yet to find a sidearm better than the PDW
loaded with AP ammo it's really good
the base tec9 is pretty decent, but the pdw version is ridiculous yeah
The PDW with AP 9mm is probably the best sidearm out there yeah
I just enjoy the novelty of the 5.56 pistol
Especially since the PDW has a reflex sight and the chiron is working with irons
Clearly, there should be a top top tier chiron mini with a silencer and laser sight
there is a mod that doubles the mag and makes it full auto, which sounds very funny and maaaybe better suited for a red chest drop

.45 hollowpoint hits really hard and airburst had a funny interaction with the flail
microfrag is neat but not as good as AP
But generally the issue is armored enemies over meaty enemies since other inheritors end up being the greatest threat
imo adding more big monster enemies would be a good start though .45 also ends up competing with 12 gauge and it unfortunately doesn't get frag-12

I think what should be done is that .45 should be left mostly the same, but tougher mutants should lose most of their armor and gain health to compensate

That MP5 variant is apparently going to be chambered in .45 though, which should be interesting.
Guess it'll be something of a rough equivalent to the real-world .40SW and 10mm variants
I mean I would suggest people seriously look into UE modding and see what all is possible
because as it stands the devs said weapons aren't super deep
folks on the discord have talked about how the way sirris has built the game, certain aspects of modding are really difficult

I'm running around with the new silenced bolt action shotgun and the slugs are just dropping people with chest shots
I've yet to hit someone with a slug and not kill them

i think slums is fine as it is, because it has the bar, a number of quest points, and the scavs are hardcore there
but the block on artifact spawns does hurt it
M35 has a wacky trader, a || gold shrine|| and a dungeon. It's connected to a few areas too. Maw could use a dungeon though

Thought the most recent update was just some fixes
And a sickness mechanic, though that's still very much in the process of being tweaked
Eating raw food and taking certain types of damage will make you sicker, causing coughing (just like with the Bad Cough trait), and maxing it out will cause you to start coughing up blood and taking damage
Hunger is tweaked to make it matter more as well: being overencumbered will make the bar drain quicker
My habit of constantly taking the +hunger trait and hauling 70kg of loot back to a merchant is being attacked, specifically
Good news for my emotional support frog, there's another step to them being emergency rations
That demo was based on a very old build so it's almost a completely different game now.

so the running between remote quest locations has become less "exploring the wastes" and more just... commuting
would be cool if they made it so u could drive around in a buggy or mustang (not like they havent made plently of hl references lol)
or at least have some sort of transportation for "late game" questing
You CAN get semi reliable fast travel but it takes a lot of work, a bit of luck, and some know-how, yeah

The assassins were, though the only way to tell the difference without the cheat menu is their loadouts
Storms are new; they were only added to the closed playtest a week or so ago
Most of the major stuff was already in the public playtest
The loot/economy was one of the first things added to the closed playtest long before it went public (though not without many, many fixes to it)
Siris managed to whip up the sickness system freakishly fast. We were discussing how one might work in the playtester chat not too long after I got the playtester role, and two days later Siris had it fully working lmao.

maybe I've just gotten better but getting from observatory to broker took me longer before
It gets easier as you learn how things work, the map layouts, etc, yeah.
and you know where it is
you know where spawns are, what the landmarks are, and where to go
I think its also knowing the layouts so I can be a lot less cautious
so instead of nosing around every building scared of a scav or a not-deer you just walk there, no description needed
X enemies typically spawn here-yeah
Encounters with other enemy inheritors are a bit less common now though (but not by much) since they're all persistent in the world now
also crossroads is a lot less of a shootout
You can even use the cheat menu to see where they all are
siris should add more inheritors to compensate...

Slums and Docks are still always a fucking moshpit though

Enemy encounters also get a lot more common as you make enemies of factions and they start sending hit squads after you
(If you see innies using incendiary ammo, that's a hitsquad. NFTA have more varied loadouts for theirs but I'm pretty sure it's usually the guys that sound like Half Life 2 metrocops when they die and they usually have at least one Army Saiga 12)

There was a funny glitch for a little bit in the playtest build where if a hitsquad came after you while you were disguised as that faction they'd just follow you around without attacking

I was doing research on offensive handguns earlier and I knew there was one other notable example than the MK23 SOCOM but got my wires crossed on what it was
idk if the FK BRNO PSD is even an offensive handgun but the 7.5FK cartridge is supposed to be rifle like and the pistol itself is fucking huge so it's in the same category as the mk 23 imo

Always carry a few bolts to deal with electric, nova, and burner anomalies.
Failing that, throwable props and flares also work

Nova and burner are obviously shaped enough i just sort of sneaker around but lightning is so vague it always caught me, that's clever though
Props also work on glass wires, which is extremely helpful in a few dungeons
