with extraction shooters, a lot of skill comes down more to knowledge checks and being able to reliably react to sound queues

bungie took this a step further and made a game where, on the more common side, you're very unlikely to get one tapped and can respond to most situations you get yourself in

Yeah this is why my skill on cryo feels like 2 divisions lower than the other maps

I just have a partial idea of where things are on it and run into stupid chaotic fights too often

ultimately, at the end of the day, gear matters a fair bit and can carry you more than most of the other elements, but that doesn't mean you can ignore just clicking heads

like I just pulled this from solo outpost after killing 2 people outside of pinwheel and 1v1ing the purple fully kitted assassin

I'm playing destroyer so I'm fairly knowledgeable about how 1v1 can go, but I'm at a disadvantage only having green shields, a gray bully, and a gray overrun

the assassin fumbled hard because they had the circuit breaker, missed 2 shots with it, and only tried to knife me after I chased him and blocked 2 additional shots with the shield

both times before this, I caught him out with destroyer ult but he more or less panicked and immediately smoked, if I chased him I could have died because smoke is a toss up + he had thermals on his lmg so instead I just blindfired into it trying to hit him through it, didn't work either time

I could only really chase him on the 3rd engagement because I had finally killed all the bots roaming around center pinwheel and knew at this point I could freely push him with the shield and there's little he can do if he tries to shoot me, so I'm at least making it a more 50/50

in trios it's more akin to apex with less broken movement and less ability spam

like Cyan said once you learn maps better that leads you to handle certain map things better.

Like how if you go in by drone wing and someone tries going into drone wing after you, you can run all the way back from anywhere in pinwheel before they get up it

also just knowing what gear to take into certain maps

I think the main thing for cryo is like, luck and just getting lucky that the other 5 times are more like your team and not a team that's a dedicated stack with triple bio injector

And sure enough, I just play at my average skill level and we wipe the lobby

Better "limited" access maps I've seen in an extraction shooter

The lvl 25 cap def feels more so people had some time to build up some vault and can take a few losses of cryo instead of trying it too early and losing their 1 good kit and feeling really bad

If you're solo and you broke their shields you can possibly down them with your ult (which does target through smoke)

Like actual meta for free ranking up is to figure out how bungie's location based match making works, setup for the most dead time possible, and dedicated queue with 4 teams on outpost

If you're a 12 stack just farming ranked then it's more just solving the game, same way as any singular lobby choosing not to pvp

And at the same time, Idk if you can queue into low stakes once you hit above gold or how that works

Cause if not then this strat no longer works as the score req is forced to go higher with the higher tags

Depending on how extraction shooters are setup this is a common occurrence

EG Pestily (one of the most popular tarkov streamers/youtubers)
And his crew guaranteed being able to do terminal together by queuing into shoreline at the same time as you can't enter terminal as a duo/squad

Of course tarkov is a mess of a game, marathon is less so

Additionally you might be able to queue into games with buddies as rook if you queue at the same time, I've not seen anybody do this yet tho. (This being more thought experiment on just queuing at the same time as rook)
