#Blood Money: How to Run a Mercenary Campaign
3397 messages · Page 4 of 4 (latest)
But related to this is why I really hesitate to use "get the civilians out" as a combat objective, after my first group had an "accident" with his genghis
that seems like a pretty basic interaction with the hobby
christ
I got in a row with the player and, six years later, am finally considering letting him play Lancer again
End of the day, I didn't witness a real bus full of puppppies get vaporized by a particle cannon
I have no clue how I'd react if that happened IRL
Ironically, in a Blood Money game
i had to edit in "fake" because if i saw a real bus full of puppies get vaporized by a particle cannon id
well
first of all, id be like "holy shit a particle cannon" and be like lowkey intellectually intrigued
and then id go "ahhh nooo"
My reaction would be like, I have no clue
I'd probably find it horrifying
Alas... I haven't seen a real bus full of pupppies get annihilated via particle cannon
all the same, i know how Leviticus Black, my lancer OC, would reasonably react
and i can pretend accordingly
hes a half demon billionaire who hunts vampires
and he happens to also pilot a mech
believe it or not I have firsthand experience with THIS too, in that wallflower goes to lengths to explain why manually dropping the last kinetic rod on hercynia and trying to use it as a weapon yourself would be apocalyptically bad and I still saw people going "yeah someone in our group wanted to do this"
the lesson I learned there was "don't even make it a thing people have a choice about in the text"
This discussion comes up monthly in that channel lmao
"someone wanting to do the exceptionally terrible idea" is definitely an RPG thing to expect, I feel
"so my group wanted to-"
"No. They're stupid or they're evil or both. Just say no"
genuinely probably my biggest failure as a writer tbh
It happens. You really can't predict just how dumb the average player can be sometimes
The first time I ran my own narrative battle rules (which primarily relied on players assigning assets to different objectives), I had units balanced by Power and Precision; the former directly contributed to objectives, the latter contributed to an ongoing Collateral meter to measure how destructive the battle was
baller response
As the battle ground on, Collateral became increasingly meaningless, but what did work was one of the early objectives (Establish Evacuation Corridor) which had the listed downside of "all collateral rolls will take permanent Difficulty"
Still occasionally poke at the ruleset
And when I used it later in the campaign, Precision/Collateral was replaced by something else
Tbf, I’m of the opinion that players are allowed to do terrible things if informed of the consequences
Firing the Death Star is indeed very bad and horrible, but if I’m giving players access to the firing sequence, I’m accepting that they may decide it’s a lesser of 2 evils thing (especially if this theme is discussed beforehand)
Like, Wallflower is a module designed to be heavy, and I think it’s justified to let players be allowed to make a heavy choice like this
Tables that are okay with doing/experiencing horrible things will not be stopped by the adventure writer saying “don’t do this”
I can only hope that I, as a GM, can impart the gravity of such a choice to the players
That was sort of my initial thinking when I laid out how that section is written and presented, but at the same time it seems like the outcome was basically more "oh this is tacit permission to get stupid with it" for the sorts of people who aren't looking for Heavy Choices
I don't like trying to dipshit-proof a game or anything, I largely think it's a waste of effort, but at the same time I feel like the takeaway for myself there was "unless there's actually some real value in having this even be presented as a possibility, maybe just don't bother"
Yeah that’s also valid, school of thought that a GM shouldn’t give players the choice to do something if they aren’t okay with some of the options coming to pass
i give those choices to my players a lot, but 1) ive been roleplaying with these guys for 25 years so i generally know what choices theyll make and 2) when i dont, i can talk them through it live and in living color
but writing that kinda thing into the void, for strangers to look at and toy with? madonne, nty
even blood money had kind of a minor issue with that
i was name searching it back when it first came out, which is how i stumbled on the 4chan lancer discord
and in there they were all kinda chuckling and nudging each other like "we all know what the legal team is for 😏" and "finally a lancer book that lets you go hard"
and i was a little horrified!
the implication being that my book was like
giving subtle permission to commit war crimes
man that fucking sucks
yeah this is the big crux of it
it's one thing when doing it for people you know, when doing it as a module you have to really tilt the calculus in your head
theres sometimes the poster that comes into pnet like this
its so weird
even the, like, mild political commentary in the lancer CRB flies over people's heads
it aint worth it
In that reddit thread, the OP specified that they wished stuff that the people mentioned for Lancer was in the main book, and... while I do think that can be valid, isn't that the point of expansions? To expand on things?
I just assumed it was for when your characters stole plutonium
fun fact of the day my party recently stole-
Anything goes in the long rim of the galaxy
also it depends on what you count as being or not being in the book
like the whole "lancer's setting is too utopic to tell stories about the grim darkness of mech combat," meanwhile this is how the section on Union is subtitled
I assumed it was for (insert any use of the Toughs' legal department in Schlock Mercenary)
Meanwhile, half of my players the first time I ran my UIB campaign went "Union? evil!"
For an assortment of reasons
One for how Administrators are trained, another for NHPs
Though his stated solution (virus that unshackles all NHPs, everywhere) was so monstrously naive that I feel that Horizon would tell him to chill out
Propaganda — a Rhetorical Tool that passes around information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a particular cause, doctrine, or point of view.
I'm planning to implement BM into my campaign when we finish Ironbound Shadow and i got curious
I want to sometimes add BONUS OBJECTIVES from enchanced combat to missions for cash ofc
How do you think i should balance payment for them having in mind they are totally optional? (most of the time)
i did the same thing as it turns out
i found couple hundred manna per side objective was reasonable
I thought it was just carte blanche for me to get away with DUIs on shore leave-
For harder side jobs I've been basically bumping up the pay grade from "low end of this tier's pay grade to middle end" or 'middle end to high end'
200 manna per objective is p reasonable, though if the side objective is particularly challenging I'd give more
I think I've been paying my squad pretty well lol
"Utopian idealistic plan sounds word for word identical to the grand plan of the average high LL game's BBEG"
Imagine ur players got LL12 and on first combat they see healthbar with "Third Committee"
dam i thought the multiple messages here yesterday were about someone cooking up something devious about Blood Money, I was wrong
Hi, I'm currently hosting Bloodmoney Merc Board using Azure free hosting services for a west march. I ran into a problem where I want to add more facilities into the database and more slots for each type of facility also. Is there anyway I can modify those aspects of the website currently or is there any alternative?
My knowledge of coding is limited so pardon me if i say something dumb sorry, If I copy and push to git an alternative/a branch? of Mercboard with a modified version of the facilities data files and use edit container to that version, would that allow me to run the modified version of Merc Board?
that is way past my bed time, sorry lol
the talented @ivory pasture might be able to shed some light on this
for the second part:
- you can make a fork of the repo and make your code edits.
- you can run this like a node app, or edit the dockerfile and make your own image, so I dont see why you can't run this in azure
- but the current pipeline uploads the image to stebb's account in the image registry
Hi, tysm for the quick resonse. If I make a fork and edit the base-core-major-facilities.schema.json would that still require changes made to Edit Container tab?
I'm currently stuck on how to change the data to a different version of the Merc Board, may I ask how should I change the location where the web should the read data from?
oh sorry i saw the Downloading or Uploading existing data section
Hia @remote perch ! Happy to hear the tool's getting some use!
So first off, Eleonor is on the money with how/where to go about making any changes :>
With regards to adding additional Major facility slots, that'd likely be quite a pain as the number of Major facilities is hard coded in several locations.
Adding more Minor Facility slots, along with Minor facility options shouldn't be too hard though - you'd need to modify the Minor slot counts in:
server.js- the
FACILITY_COUNTSobject - possibly the
initalizeMinorFacilitiesSlots()function - the
toggle-enabledendpoint which goesif(slotNumber < [insert max number of minor slots-1])
- the
helper.js- change the
slotValidationfrom6to whatever number you'd like
- change the
minor_facilities_slots.json- This will need updating to add the objects for your slots, however many you have.
As for the adding of options for Minor facilities, those live in default_base_minor_facilities.json
Hope that helps, and hope the tool hasn't been too limiting 😅
all the players do enjoy the ui and all the shiny stuff so much so again thank you for the wonderful web
oh yea, idk if this's a bug but if I change the pilot level or change pilot node from terminal mode, the balance history would be reset
is there something I could do to change that?
Oh lemme try and replicate that 👀
So do you mean that balance history is reset when a pilot is made Inactive? o:
Omg it is dammit
Well that's a pretty major bug, I'll get that 😅
Thanks so much for the bug report, pushing up change and release for that tonight >_>
Having an in-app workflow to add custom base modules might be nice
that'd be like christmas for me
Ahhhh fuggit while I'm here I'll see what I can do ~u~
considering how much hardcoded stuff there is, take your time, this might take some effort
I imagine functionality would be
User can:
- Add additional Core, Major and Minor facilities from the Admin view.
- Number of Minor facility slots can be configured.
- Number of locked slots can also be configured.
lmk if any further wants in so far as that
And yeah, there's a lot of touchpoints to fiddle with here so might be a little while 😅
don't forget the delete function XD
Not entirely unlikely that I did lol
pig, your module is so cool that you got your own compcon
im out here trying to match even a fraction of mr C/C's power lol
now that's real merc talk right there 😎
aight you asked for it (thank you for asking im cryin)
Okay in my campaign, since there are too many people, I split players into teams, and each team can have their own set of facilities. My flex tape idea was I'd make more minor faclities and tape the corresponding team's name on it to note who got what at the moment. If you could make a function to assign a number of pilots to a set of facilities that'd be amazing.
Oh boy - so if I'm getting this right, your use case is to have each group of players having a separate "Base" essentially?
that seems like it would be easier to host two separate instances
"multi-base" is definitely not something the dashboard is currently built for
yeah that makes a lot of sense
Was going to be my suggestion on confirmation yah - my recommendation there would be to have a few separate instances of the website, each for a different team
though this would mean the terminal config would let me remove a major or core facility from the base right?
or modifying the amount of upgrades a major/core facility can have?
That feature set would allow as much yeah, from the Admin view :>
Would also be a hell of a lot less difficult than the data-soup of associating base stuff by pilot 😅
ayee
Oh btw the fix for pilot data is up, I'm not 100% aware of the Docker wizardry that @sage comet set up but I think your Azure hosted website should auto update 🤔
might need to repull the image and probably redeploy
Depending how you host it - if you have some kind of continous deployment option setup, you might not need to do anything. Otherwise restarting the webapp should pull the new image.
that fixed it, thank you guys so much
oh for now, could i replace a core facility with a new one and is there something i should be aware of if i do that? i was fidgeting around in the offline version and it kinda worked there
Should be able to just change the .json files for the facilities and it'll change their names and descriptions etc c:
151 more sales and i will have sold 1000 copies. wouldnt that be nice?
thats the same number as there are pokemon
150*
Gotta make a second purchase at exactly the 929 mark to claim slowpoke huh
Preeminent congrats though, deserved ❤️🔥
lmao thank you
Holy crap pigsriot you tapped into a helluva market. Not even a year in and you’ve sold 850+ copies
Folks wanna play their mercs!!
next book is going to have to be either pilot combat or kaijus 😩
maliciously targeting new GMs like a crocodile
"So you heard Lancer narrative rules are too lite? Well, do I have a module for you!"
Holy shit I would love for Pigsriot™ brand narrative rules yessssss, I already love what the pilot gear in BM does for player narrative capability so please, your entire stock if you would ❤️🔥
i am unironically considering doing my own take on bonds sometime in the future, but probably not anytime soon
the pilot gear i have in BM is kind of a taste of what my ideas are
so imagine that but more of them and with bespoke narrative resolution rules
(in or out of mech)
but right now my two big projects are my lancer adventure and my godzilla game which are taking up all my creative brainspace
Would they be "Rebaked" bonds, or a backwards -compatible version?
Or just an alternate system that offers a non-Karrakin flavored narrative system
nah itd just be its own thing
basically bond mechanics expressed exclusively through pilot gear
plus some tacked on mechanics
and my own take on a pilot status system (ie stress)
much less forgiving system
As much as i love blades, lancer mission structure makes it rather hard to have the action be during narrative scenes. At least in my games, it makes it really hard to argue anyone needs to roll anything cuz i quickly find myself in freeform roleplay
it's not at all impossible, I run narrative one-shots often, and the system excels there
it's just hard to bring essentially a second mission for when your pilots are not on a tactical map
https://discord.com/channels/426286410496999425/1475691536518746182
Anyways i had done a thing a few months back
yeah your work on this is really fucking good
Last night i realized that this rework with the Harlequin bond is so extremely accelerated and largely positive for the player.
"Ridi Pagliacci" gives you an accuracy rather than a difficulty for invoking Burdens. I had made it so that invoking burdens fills up one segment. When you completely heal a Burden you get a "boon" of sorts, good fortune your way.
Harlequin is out here Burdenmaxxing!
I just don't like tying all of the player's narrative agency to pilot gear, which is sometimes competing with combat gear
I think the easiest solution is to have "combat gear" and "pilot gear" operate in separate pools
about where my mind is at yeah
My group and I have been tinkering with my own narrative hack too, funnily enough 🙂↕️ popular space to fuck about with
We’ve been going for more of a pbta-inspired, “we like bonds we just wanna add ablative systems to em” route though, so probably not much I can offer in ways of brain exchange
i think due to the way lancer is constructed, there are going to be a few design funnels we all fall into
its really a matter of tightening up the loose bolts here and there, or rather, prioritizing what bolts need tightening
for me its very much "whats more interesting than a clock?"
and working backwards from there
like i HATE triggers
they make me feral
clocks are fine but a little boring unless youre adding garlic and vinegar to the pot
so thats the realm i really want to explore
Like how hardsuits are their own slot, so they aren't competing for space yeah
see, this is why i love lancer. we greatly disagree on this point and all i can think of is "holy shit im so excited to see pig's ideas"
Agreed, esp with the compartmentalization of narrative mechanics and combat mechanics. Theres valid reasons to critique this, but I think not enmeshing them as strongly as other games do is a big factor in how modular modding the game can be
Hell, “modular” is kinda the operative word when it comes to Lancer
no thats not real, i have ideas! youll all see them one day!
Diceless Lancer...
I will subscribe to the newsletter 🫡
This discussion has given me several people's ideas on narrative rules to look at so tysm for talking about it 💖
also on the note of modularity shoutout to that one group that just plays Starfinder for Pilot stuff
sometimes when i think of shit to do for lancer theres a little slay the spire gremlin in the back of my brain that says "remember slay the spire? just do that, idiot"
and im like "
"
StS mentioned huge dub, also no idea how that translates but it sounds fire
what's the lancer equivalent of build a defect claw deck?
lmfao
segment knife builds, gotta be
seems like a hack on paper but in practice youre like "what the fuck"
before the game: ive unlocked the secret to infinite attacks
this game is easy
after the game: hm.
Aw shit now I have to share mine 💻 🏃♀️ 💨
I actually like the skill triggers they are free form enough that encourages creative thinking at least thats how I approach it with my player but that might be a me thing
People sharing their wacky narrative reworks? 👀
Anyone mind if I chuck mine in the pot? 👀
dish!!
So in my talent rework I added a framework for talent oriented narrative powers
Built more to be a toolbox than a ruleset that can be integrated into whatever ruleset people are using
But like, every tier you choose a talent to be a signature talent, then you can't remove talent ranks from that talent but can basically use that talent out of combat
In some method
I purposely just use vague concepts rather than specific terms. Then in a glossary I say "this can be as specific or general as the GM is comfortable with. From a vibes based consequence to a fixed amount of HP"
fuck yeah!
it makes me think of how Technophile, Leader, Empath, Bonded and a bunch other talents are more interesting due to their narrative implications than by their mechanics
Basically, like technophile in the rework I've removed the narrative parts of the talent from the talent and I'm just gonna make that the narrative power
Leaders power is just "you can use leader die out of combat"
But most of the abilities are basically work around you as the player just describe what you do, then if the GM thinks it's adequate you do what the ability provides no rolls usually
To the point I've keyworded describe
Nuc cav is funny. It's basically "if you're piloting a vehicle with a nuclear reactor. Describe how you push the machine to get a critical success. Then your Reactor takes Grevious harm"
Bonded is just, as long as you can describe how you keep body blocking eachother to take harm for the other... You can
It's very vibes based and once I've finished it I'm probably never gonna balance it with the excuse of "it's a toolbox, figure it out"
yeah this is honestly really great material
one of those things that feels like its always been "missing" from the game after someone conceptualizes it, as you have
Thanks Valk. Very cool
Idk if this was an original thought I had, if it was implanted by someone else or if someone else encouraged me to do it
this also (somewhat) solves the 'do i pick talent or frame first' dilemma i heard valk mentioned sometimes ago i think, since you can vibe pick a talent and happily make a build later with those you picked.
Aight Im too shy and etiquette-obsessed to yap about things in here so I've set up a lil dedicated forum thread for em: https://discord.com/channels/426286410496999425/1494782912988713041
We are all products of our experiences at the end of the day
Hi so today mark my 3 full months of experience with Lancer and this's a bit of a personal yapping but most is related to Blood Money one way or another (and I'm scared of sharing this stuff in higher traffic places so please tell me if it should be sent somewhere else).
So, a friend of mine pull me into Lancer using Blood Money supplement and introduce me to COMPCON. I didn't think of myself as a gundam or mecha guy at all but after taking a look at COMPCON and the amount of Gears i was absolutely blown away and end up making a maniac spec ops girl with Carnivous Cerebral Implant who is the 23rd fascimile clone chain who inherit memories from her previous version - an attempt to bypass the First Contact Accord prohibition on DeCorp by HA, who then get slashed dead by 2 random goons in pilot turn based combat.
After the experience I left and learn all I could about Lancer, setting up Foundry, Lore Supplement, COMPCON, NPCs, all the official frames, setting up my own MercBoard website,... then translate all the basics of Lancer (the basic of basic which include action rule and big factions intro), create and setup my own Discord Lancer west march server.
A bit of context, in my country the most only renowned TTRPG is DnD (5e of course), and after seeing all the kick ass content in this server I was, for a lack of better word, frustrating and anxious, like, how the community welcome newcomers and the amount of contents and efforts, how everyone here passionately pouring their hearts out, all the tools and amazing detailed settings, and sometimes, I wish could do more for all what Lancer has been giving me.
I also made some sets of modifications for Lancer to better fit my West March campaign (I hope I could share it here), which include some simple rule for spending Manna and a major changes on character progression, and also some changes to combat action rules.

Blood Money and https://trainlightning.com/how-to-ban-a-lancer-manufacturer/ was how I got the idea for the settings btw...
Discussing how a GM can ban or restrict access to a Lancer manufacturer and the emergent play around such a decision.
BM has become so popular its forum is getting its own nested sub-homebrew
I dont think we can get much higher gang
ngl I had always wanted to do a campaign where its like "hey so basically everything out here is shit, you have to buy literally everything"
so the players are fucking around in underequipped everests because all they can afford is like a weapon and a system 😭
This is cool as shit my friend! I'm very gratified to hear that my book inspired you. This is good content! Share it! The community loves this kinda thing!
may i ask where should i put it? It kinda all over the place so im not really sure if it should be in what channel
Shit i don't know. You can make your own third party thread but between you and me, i don't know much about this sort of thing
People had to walk me through making my threads
aye ty for the nice words, I'll look into it!
#1056034709555138610 and also #gm-corner and #lancer-general
Yeah you can just make a third party forum thread if it's for an actual project
doesn't even have to be for sale
awesome
There is interactive board for it or you made it full from scratch?
there's a tool for merc board?
OH SHIT I FOUND IT
Very cool isn't it
Absolutely magnificent
I'm gonna use it so much
Ah github, my old enemy
We meet again
If you need a hand setting anything up or using it, feel free to give a shout here ~u~
Would recommend hosting it on Microsoft Azure per the tutorial in the repo, should be very step-by-step
oh may I ask a bit about the shop menu?
Sure thing!
Thank you, my last impact with github was with trying to set up briefings (I refuse to aknowledge i spent 2 days doing it)
It worked but i ran out of time so i did need to halt proces of setting up
So for now my only question is if you think that Azure is best option?
Azure's for sure best option - it's hosted online with a short startup, costs you nothing, and can be most easily accessed by your players to check the job board, vote, buy stuff etc. without you needing to open it up yourself
I believe the Azure angle also requires little or no interaction with github if that helps lol
Is there any drawback to it?
Like limited time it can be active, or limited time i can have it online etc.?
So it'll shut down by itself after maybe 15 minutes of inactivity, but you can just spin it back up by opening the website back up and it shouldn't take longer than a couple minutes
No restrictions otherwise
I'll list all the questions in one go:
- For the resupplies in shop, can i edit it to have more resupplies slots in the shop interface?
- Can I add more reserve slot to Pilot reserves menu?
- Can I configure an access code for each pilot so if they enter that access code, they can only use that pilot to buy stuff?
Thanks for clarification
And also i can't express my gratitude for tools like that and for work people like you do so i'll only say remember that because of people like you world is better place for GMs
The real thanks goes to Mr Pigsriot for making it all happen 😎💖
More slots in the shop/Pilot
So near as I know you can stock the shop as much as you want I think, same goes for how many reserves the pilots can hold. I'll check this in a mo to make sure I've got the functionality in my head right.
Per Pilot access codes
This one isn't a feature I'm afraid. The reason it was done this way is because it's within my expectations that pilots buy stuff for eachother, or otherwise buy some things for the whole team, with the whole teams money (base upgrades is a good example).
In order to do that, any one Pilot needs to be able to spend the money of any other pilots in order to split the purchase between them, at which a point who's account is who's barely matters anymore.
Also I expect people to only play TTRPGs with people they trust and like, so "don't spend other people's money without permission" is an assumed safeguard in the same vein as "don't be a dick"
Hope that helps, will check the shop thing in a mo
also realising there might want to be a user manual 😅
thank you if those are the cases it'll be so good, im currently tracking stuff manually until a player from my camp told me why i didnt use shop in Merc Board UI and that was like a mind blowing moment for me
We all just squeal from the sidelines
Oh yah for sure then the shop stuff ought to help!
Also just confirmed, yeah you can stock as much into the shop as you want, and make custom reserves for the shop as you see fit.
The view for pilot reserves tracks who holds what reserves, along with their current state (In Reserve | Deployed | Expended) to track whether they've been brought on a mission or not.
Don't see why not :> Point me to the fork in question if you'd like eyes on it or anything
Hi ya, I got a small question, is there anyway I can make a Reserve persistent instead of going away?
I guess you could just declare it so? I’d budget it as an exotic
ah sorry that's a very bad way of wording it. I mean can i modify the shop so that when a pilot buy a reserve, it won't be removed from stock in shop?
if i remove the // Remove from stock (first occurrence) section, would it achieve the function i mentioned above?
oh i just realized I can try deploying from github, so that's what Shteb mean about the fork thing
🤦♂️
So yeah you'd make a fork, then deploy it or otherwise build and run it locally as you see fit
As for making it persistent (infinite stock) - no way to do so I afraid xP
How are the changes I've made locally to my blood money instance saved? I was thinking of making some homebrew mods to some modules but I'm not sure how to back up the data
OK never mind that, I figured it out -- for simple changes to the text it's just going in and twerking the json in the data folder
twerking, you say?
I decided to make my life difficult
I will try to host merc board locally and let my players in via hamachi
I have no clue if this will work
@ivory pasture Manna balance is made for team as a whole right?
It's calculated live based on the total balance of all active pilots :> So if you have 4 pilots with 100 Manna, it'll display 400 on the main screen for it
Hamachi should work just fine btw, it's not that functionally different to port forwarding anyway
Oh alright
So it summary of all pilots but the spend it all togheter like you said above?
I'll try it on weekend
Right now i'm trying azure because i'm bored at work and my coworker mentioned it's from microsoft
I promise the azure thing will be fairly painless, if a little trouble at first c:
Spending is per-transaction, so whenever anything is bought the pilots select who's money it comes out of (can be any number of pilots at a time, so a 400 manna expense can be split among 3 pilots for 133 each)
My fellow child in RA
Everything will be less painfull than github
This app is more complex than i though
May your dice always roll high
Hope it's useful, it should come fairly naturally on both the admin side and user side
i need to make a manual though
Ye i'll let you know for sure few weeks for now
We started new campaign 2 weeks ago where we firstly go trough Ironbound Shadow and then will move on to my own setting with bloodmoney as base
But after few issues with briefings i wanted to start... early
Also if anyone is interested, if you have other books required for IS and want to make blood money
Fucking go for it
Planet on Dawnline Shore with both KTB and HA colonies is wonderfull boiling point
Coughing with crisis at New Creighton
It should work. I ran mine locally on zerotier
I'm now running it locally then creating a tunnel using ngrok (which is an option if you don't expect players to overload the bandwidth limits I guess)
Have you met before with it ?
I'M GOING MAD
This is fourth time this month when i try to do something, it doesn't work
I'm like well fuck me let me try this again
I do it perfectly the same way
AND IT MAGICALLY WORKS
I swear to god machine spirit is fucking with me
I take it it's working now? xD
It is, Azure got little hiccup but all is working perfectly
the amount of details you can implement there is tremendous
While i was setting it up i remembered there is module for foundry that let you show HTML sites directly on Foundry
It's gonna be fun
Inline Webviewer right? Yeah that'll be peak 🔥
Allows you to have webpages open inside Foundry VTT - ardittristan/VTTInlineWebviewer
OK I need this so I can pull up my Job Board
@ivory pasture
I think i stepped on.. bug?
i have 2 separates instances of app open
When i use IMHOTEP password on normal app on browser eveyrthing is fine But when i try to use it on foundry with webviewer, site is shouting with "unauthorized"
What is strange when i try to use admin password i have different error
are there any web console logs for that?
I was rereading the pilot gear section, and just got that the joke with the variable ID works on two different levels
That's an iframe I think? Probably the app needs some light massaging into iframe-compatible form
Until this morning I was planning my blood money campaign as a 'war on sparr' follow up to Stolen Crown. But then this morning someone mentioned Salvage Union and I think now it has to become an alternative reality where the player get the 'bad ending' and the merc base is a giant walking mech roaming the frozen wasteland.
Salvage Union is super neat and I definitely recommend it; it has very different design goals than Lancer though
I was just going to use lancer as a system and lift the settings expectations honestly. Probably slap a resource cost to get a full repair on top of blood money's currency system, to potentially have the situation where mechs are too banged up to commit to a mission and you need to get thrifty . Probably partially reskin mission rewards as salvaged components.
I think this as more of light house ruling and not in "check my 5e mod to turn dnd into a 4x game" territory. Yet
theres already like
stipend resources
so you could just reflavour that as components
yeah manna can be anything
if you want to reflavor it as "salvage" then thats totally gucci
as long as rank 1 rewards run parallel to rank 1 shop items, and so on through the ranks
then youre gucci
wait i said gucci twice
i need a new word
uhhhh then youre uhhhh
doin fine
😒
copacetic
Radical
If you're using salvage as the monetary resource, is the Salvage Corps base upgrade being changed?
Man I am really wishing I got this book before starting my mercenary campaign 🙃 my hat's off to you, pigsriot, this is a gem of a supplement. Thank you!
Hi, it's me the ever annoying gremlin again. This time i just wanna share a bit about my MercBoard settings. So after fidgeting a bit with some file settings, I managed to made the reserve stock persistent and add some extra description to the resupply items section. The Reserve section for managing pilot also looks incredibly neat and clean. I'm forever grateful to pigs"gucci"riot, stebb, Eleonor, Lupo and everyone for bringing this wonderful piece of art to life! (or to the internet would be more precise?)
Oh this turned out great! I'm glad the reserve management is to your liking, was stuck for a while on how exactly to present it :P
Sounds awesome to run a "but literally everything, down to your kit" game, keep us posted on the wins and pitfalls of the system as you go c:
How many landmarks should be a good amount?
Like I am planning to have an Average battle
Radical battle...
Depends on map size but assuming a 15x15 then, like, a dozen
Dozen for each side or for one?
They're side agnostic
If you're doing the sitrep where everyone is trying to capture the other sides landmarks then a dozen total
Yeah i guess so, i don't really conceive of them like that
?
They're in the map and whoever controls them controls them
If the eneny is in control of the map to start then they'd control all of them. It's not like the attackers get any
And leave enough space so players can deploy
What about for a Larger battle?
trying out the job board, seems really cool
Hope it's useful! if so definitely look at the hosting guide for Microsoft Azure c:
One of the members of my IRL Pathfinder group found out that the card he gets paid for giving plasma had the number stolen
lmao
"The fuck you mean someone's been accessing our accounts!?"
New subplot unlocked, lol
Hope you got the Accountants module!
hey pigs, i was browsing through some old messages in this thread and saw some stuff about the extoic forge that got cut. Can I ask what the general system was? Im imaging something like players being able to build exotics to equip there mechs with, its got me quite curious
Oh sure
That's precisely what it was. Original intent was for players to kill enemies, harvest parts unique to that enemy, use those parts to build components, combine components to make exotic
I'll fish the doc for you in one sec
Fair warning: it's hilariously unbalanced, so user be warned
But i think the bones are promising
How This Works Each weapon you will make is comprised of 3 slots: Body: The type and range of the weapon. Materials: The mount size and damage of the weapon. Module: Special effects that trigger on hit, on crit, or through some other means. Each weapon requires 1 of each component to be comple...
Main reason i dropped it is because it encouraged more head hunting than i wanted
Which is, y'know, not a difficult problem to get around
I'll pick it back up again one day
Reminds me of a far more in-depth version of Scrounger from Suldan
Not familiar with that one
Its a talent, one level lets you take an enemy weapon as a one-use mount
Ah right, its a 1-use free action blast
Oh sick!
In my original mercs campaign, there was a Suldani character that used it to great effect because I always forgot he had it
Until he whipped out the random Sniper AMR
Greeting money blooders - to those using the job board app, I've finally got around to making a proper user guide.
It's in the repo as a MD file and is linked from the repo readme too, in case you need to find it o7
I have now set up the site on azure, it's working well, though the players haven't seen it yet (I just posted it for them a minute ago)
I did have to set it up on the canada east servers because you don't get to host on us east for free
but yeah the first single-sitrep operation went well, after this I'm gonna be giving them more complex operations
Glad to hear it's working - ping shouldnt really be an issue so yeah Canada aught to be alright if you're in the US
Lmk if you encounter any bugs (ideally report them as issues on GitHub as I'm likely to lose track here)
I may be having too much fun with this
I like this stupid almost-joke character
also my group has named their mercenary company complications
because the opfor encounter complications when they show up
My group's merc company got named Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
share your Merc Company names or something lol
Amber Harpies Corps
Damn that name slaps
It alude to anything of it's members?
also fr I've so rarely encountered groups that can swallow the pill and name their party something cool - I appreciate it's a difficult hurdle 😅
This is the name of my upcoming open-table game. I came up with it myself, instead of bottom-up.
Ive been wanting to use Harpies as a moniker for aaages now
also, if you mispronounce it a lil, the name becomes Amber Corpses
which i like as a nod to being an edgy fuck sometimes xD
we embrace the edge out here, its way too fun to shy away from 😎🙏
I came up with a list of changes I'll be using in my own games based on @past trellis's suggestions way back, making the standout BM pilot gear as more concrete alternatives to core book gear, while still keeping things interesting
ORYX 990 Sir Field Revolver
Loading tag
Crystal Lattice Sword
Limited 3, is 1 damage after charges are gone and gains Sidearm
Combat knife
Sidearm, 1 damage
Ganymede RDS009 Dual laser pistols
Range 3, inaccurate
Eunthe HDC11 Plasma Cannon
Damage 4
Rhino SFP77 Assault Platform
Range 8
The Ganymede was the toughest one, Inaccurate works counter to the narrative ability, but there aren't a lot of negative tags that work with pilot weapons
