Warden is a chunky bastard but with no built-in mitigation mechanic, just a shield, he's less a frontliner and more a carry that can win 1v1 against most of the cast even if they hit him with a full burst
which is still rather bulky but it's very different than being a true frontline tank
Warden ult temporarily turns him into a godlike being that actually can and will beat you all 1v6

Part of that is farming efficiently, but the way you describe it it sounds like you're approaching things from a somewhat strange angle
are you helping exert map control, pushing waves, securing sinners, denying the enemy farm, participating in fights etc.
