somehow our driller got 90m below the minehead, the scout went down there and died of fall damage, i got down there with platforms and also died of fall damage, we fought off some swarms, some folks left
and then the last other player left after i got downed so the mission ended
also the driller left after i asked them to use their drills to get us out
there was like 1 and a half resupply pods so fuel wasn't an issue

i've continued to never have an issue with it. the game is pretty 'easy', or at least - most of the people in your lobbies will generally be decently competent, and so unless you violate a couple of the community etiquette rules, you should have no issue having fun games w/ randoms
(and the community rules mostly boil down to "don't take more than 1 person's worth of ammo from resupplies, and don't press start buttons if you're not host/you didn't check if people were ready)
i wouldn't really expect to stick around in lobbies with the same people unless you're doing the weekly assgns, or unless you're playing on the highest difficulties, and basically nobody uses a mic. but the game is still fun as ever

Something takes a bite of you and you just turn around, power attack it into oblivion, and continue mining

Minelayers or cryo/fire bolts are extremely funny for this, you just leave a patch behind you while you mine and every few seconds a bit of bug comes flying over your shoulder
(Or you turn around after finishing the mineral vein and there's an iceberg of frozen bugs)

i mean, aside from your first promotion unlocking the forge, promotion doesn't really do anything beyond rewarding a couple matrix cores and a fancier portrait border, so i wouldn't worry about "efficiency" too much

the thing you get access to after your first promotion is being able to activate the events that activate blank matrix cores
they'll still spawn if you're not promoted, you just won't be able to activate them yourself and they're not particularly rewarding if you don't have blank matrix cores on hand
