#Elden Ring (DLC hype room)

Oh they're kind of wildly vulnerable to bleed specifically
The thing in mountain top of the giants the kindred
you're killing bleed-weak enemies with bleed
Oh so that’s why everything just dies
Ah
Another one I used glintstone breath on and it died really quickly as well
So me and mohg are on equal footing
the Black Kindred...?
those things aren't even weak to Magic lol
I mean, are you playing Arcane with the dragon communion seal?
then you're getting your statpoints' worth out of ARC casting
it's pretty high-damaging but the utility is pretty low, so watch out for the inevitable bosses that just don't respect any of your gimmicks
Alr, also what I mean with I don’t need skill is those weird mohg royals keep attacking me and I can just spam reduvias ash of war like 5 times and they’re gone
yeah that's intended
Mohg faction members are very VERY weak to Bleed
but a bunch of them will also power up if you bleed them, so if you don't kill them fast enough they'll fold you
So I’m not commuting some grievous sin with my build?
Cuz like I recently started a new game that’s mostly dex based and there I die way more often but it’s still fun
Mohg time
ARC-max is Elden Ring's most committal, all-damage build
Alr this is what I mean, second try, halved his health bar
In like a minute or two without really trying more learning his moveset
Used 2 casts of rot breath
One cast of special glintstone breath
A bit of lightning
the downside being that you miss out on a lot of defensive options, utility, actually good ranged spells, the ability to null certain status effects, etc.
And when he did his big attack I used reduvias ash of war
Rot Breath is sort of a classic mogh obliterator
And you don't get any absorbtion buffs from levelling ARC, which will eventually hurt
So arc is intended to just nuke everything?
yeah
OHHHH
all damage, none anything else
Alr I’ll switch that out
They've had to nerf it a few times but it's still p potent
Used to be absolute nightmare in pvp
I tend to use rot bc it keeps the pressure on
ARC pvp builds are characterized by having one nuclear damage gimmick and generally little other recourse
my current spells, anything I need to change out besides rot so it's fun to kill mohg?
whether that damage gimmick is seppuku 2kats, hypermode, nihil, etc. is up to the specific build
Seppuku with Rogier's Rapier + Some Other Rapier is also delightful
oh and the wacky chainhits setup, but that's more of a Dex/Fai thing now thanks to finally getting a dedicated chain hits weapon
the one in the dlc?
yea
where are you fighting Mohg
ye
alr
oh also hold up
?
you got Mohg to 50% health right out the gate yeah
ye
I have the crystal tear
that's why I was able to got some sweet hits with reduvia
alr
the Mohginator is a challenge for sure
also I changed two incants (unendurable frenzy and rot breath) for greyolls roar
that's chill right?
sure
idk if you'll be able to pop it off against Mohg cause i've never used Greyolls roar but if you can that should be pretty good
Greyoll's is a weird incant
it's a giant AoE of heavy stagger hits but pretty low damage, plus a VERY good debuff effect
I think i didn't hit him
cuz like he didn't have an aura or anything indicating the debuff hit him
ye idk
at least now he's harder :)
still very easy to get like 2 thirds of his hp pool
Now this just sounds like bragging :p
Also if you're still dying it can't be that easy smh
but that's the fun part
learning
and like seeing how you get better
also I just found out that his phasechange heals him
hitting the NIHIL, NIHIL, NIHIL!
ye I don't take damage
maybe not bleed him during that
ye, this gotta be like on of my favourite boss fights ngl
my fave is a bit later in the game
which one?
you guys think I'll beat him in the next 20 minutes?
then I have SOOO much time for the dlc
Wait how'd you get dual blades without beating him anyhow
wdym?
oh mb they're called twinblades
I want those
they have a fun moveset
so, the one attack I can't really dodge well is the exploding blood claw thingy
any advice?
also I like his combo, if you get hit you take big damage but it's fairly easy to dodge and gives nice damage windows
my main Mohg Problem was that overhead slam, idk what about it but i just never believed i was in range or it'd come out when it does
or the like ground-skewer
ye that one has a funny hitbox I just found out
his weapon is neat, makes him not just Swiping Around Constantly
and if you're close enough you can go under the spear with certain attacks, man this game has nice hitboxes
Oh so you didn’t know that reducing Mohg to 50% HP out the gate doesn’t mean much beforehand huh
It’s a delayed attack, the initial hitbox is extremely weak but the explosion hits hard and triggers a blood flame debuff
Block, then roll
lowest I got him was with the rot breath which was like 2 thirds gone
I don't have a shield
also can his attacks be parried?
Some
so a parrying dagger would make sense?
Not in Elden Ring, parrying daggers are bad as dedicated parrying tools compared to med shields with a specialized parry Ash
yeah the parry ashes just reign supreme unfortunately
I was planing on putting parry on the Misericorde
I wouldn’t call it unfortunate, parrying daggers have a niche
They give you access to power stance and parrying at the same time
Which is actually extremely powerful IMO, any weapon you can gain a defensive option with left-hand enables a very strong power stance
Golden Parry got mega nerfed at some point so it's a little less dramatic now, but yeah storm wall and carian retaliation are noticeably better than what a parrying dagger brings to the fold
Really, what I think is unfortunate is the existence of ash Bloodhound Step
Even post-nerfs
also annoyingly parrying dagger has been kind of robbed of its niche by the ash system in general, you can put the regular parry ash on any dagger you want
Ugh, yeah.
It makes BH Step a universal option for all power stances
if parrying dagger could take carian retaliation and storm wall (unlike other daggers) there'd be a lot more reason to use it
as is the only thing it has going for it is default parry and technically s-rank dex scaling (but not in a way that really translates to impressive damage)
also does it matter if a buy the dlc before or after the fight?
it does not
(as in, if you want to put a parry ash on a dagger, use misericorde so you at least get high damage out of the riposte crit)
just realised I don't even have the parry ash of war
I love when a build has enough weight leftover for a misericorde, but i'm usually carrying too many weapons to begin with
lol
I have more than enough weight remaining
also I'm making progress with the bossfight!
I tend to fashion build and like lighter looks so I usually don't have weight problems unless i'm trying to lightroll
I'm using like super light stuff rn
I hear you, ER is probably the game where I put the least points in Endurance
bc it's pretty
You actually start with a pretty generous stamina bar compared to other games I think
At least it's Endurance and not just a seperate stat
I need to look good when I fight demogods
classes tend to feel like they start with enough stam to function
i always overlevel like hell so i put a lot of points into weird places
The only time in a Souls i've really wanted to stamina is Burial Blade
that thing is DEMANDING
vs like DS2 where most starting classes will run out very quick and it's very easy to run out
Weirdly the most stam-intensive strategy I've encountered in ER has definitely been archery.
DS2 its mostly that rolling and attacking are more committal
Bloodborne will chew up your stamina pretty badly in general honestly
But it's really a 'please, help me, my family is starving for equip load' while carrying 55 pounds of swords
Amygdala Arm and Holy Moonlight come to mind
I don't think I leveled any Endurance in ER, and I never really felt that that short on stamina
admittedly I was a mage
god I keep rolling into his attacks
Fromsoft has gotten too good at knowing when folks will want to dodgeroll
Mogh is a tough fight for rollcatching - I think he's a lot easier than Malenia for the most part, but in melee he's drastically harder than with any strat that doesn't require you to stay on his ass. Just because he has tricky timings and a lot of nasty area denial to try to stay on top of throughout the fight
i can't remember how i beat him tbh
Malenia i just kinda said "Nah, i'd win" and did the good old Flamberge 1v1
Archery is not good, but Archery Mogh was actually comically easy. I did it in two tries, and the first try was a mutual kill (it didn't count because he has a long death speech)
I could just get rot breath again but nah that feels wrong
For the record the main reason for this is you need to be constantly jumping and rolling to use archery to any effect, so you're effectively adding the cost of a roll or a jump to every attack you make.
I’m gonna be honest, my strat for solo against most of the really hard bosses was to just grit my teeth and parry better
if you're efficient, you can attack and dodge at the same time, but the unnecessary acrobatics are pretty goofy when you have an opening and aren't in danger.
Sometimes with an Executioner’s Greataxe because of the ridiculous base damage + 1.35x crit
archery demands you act like legolas and this amuses me consistently
What makes me laugh is Morgott is generally on the easy side relative to his zone, but probably the hardest boss to reliably parry in the game.
Lots of unparriable attacks mixed in with parriable attacks with downright tiny windows
Yeah I just went monkey mode on Morgott because parrying him is unreasonable
he's harder than I thought
Who trained you Morgott why do you kick so much ass
Just a little guy in the sewers mimicking Knightly Stances
anyway I think my archer is the highest I've ever actually raised END in ER and I'm barely using the weight capacity
at some point I shrugged and added the lion greatbow to my walking-around equipment because it didn't matter and I could still lightroll
I don't really like how much rollcatching there is in ER tbh
just feels like almost every enemy does it
yeah it gets kind of obnoxious at times
bro keeps spamming the same move
so many attack strings just feel delayed just enough to catch you mid roll if you roll when its intuitive
it's like the second attack in his combo and the exploding blood that catch me
fuck it I'll get some self buffs bc I don't have windows for big damage incants
Rot Breath during the opening part of the fight actually can make your life a lot easier, and that's usually the best window for doing any big single thing
I put away rot breath bc it felt cheap
other than that he's weak to bleed ("Oh no! As the lord of blood, I need my blood to do things!") but does have Lord of Blood Exultation and gains a damage buff whenever either of you bleeds
like the time I used rot breath I got him down really fast
my strat for killing him as an archer was just peppering him with bloodbone arrows until he died
is he weak to poison or lightning or sleep?
Poison has the same values as Rot, so pretty average for a lategame bosss
Sleep he's resistant but not immune to
I think it only staggers him though
Lightning he has the same resist as he does to magic, which is middling. He's weakest to physical of common damage types
Frost is the same as poison/rot for this
so like alr?
if youre not dealing a ton of damage to him poison and rot are probably better than frost
like, here's the numbers
I'm barely not hitting the phase change
thx
since his resistances will get high enough after a couple frost procs, you're not going to be getting that many frosts off over the course of the fight
and the main sell of frost vs one of the other statuses is that it buffs your damage while its still active - so if youre not capitalizing on that in the frosts you get, not worth it
tbh it's funny that they list madness resistance for bosses. Only a handful of enemies in the game aren't immune to it
poison and rot will be more damage, almost certainly
It's pretty bad as a status in PvE, madness spells are just carried by shockingly good base damage, the status is a bonus
am I allowed to use spirit thingies or is that also an easy way out?
You're allowed to use whatever you want
don't let gatekeepers tell you how to live your life
they are in the game
however u want to play the game. sometimes i have fun summoning landsquirts by themselves though
like no contribution from me
for you to use them
just watching the landsquirts try to 1v1 mohg
the whole reason I'm not using ro breath is bc I want to feel like I earned victory
winning is winning
I could use the jellyfish
winning is winning yeah
if the boss is dead you beat it imo
Winning is winning, you don’t have to play nice lmao
if I just spam reduvia and don't move not really imo
you get to pick what winning looks like
I think the only serious line I'd draw is maybe summoning another player and letting them solo the boss for you. that one's probably them winning 😛
just do whatever helps you win
I have mohgs shackle
i used summons for like the whole dlc but i went back and fought the hardest boss again solo cause i wanted that earned win
shit was tough as hell
did that with astel bc I was horribly underleveled
Tbh I let another player take point for my PCR fight but I also did all the damage lol
that's what I mean, I stil beat the boss but like it doesn't feel earned
which reminds me i do need to play through SOTE again and 1v1 all of the bosses
im assuming youre aware but the shackle only works in the first phase, and only twice period
I'm gonna use mimic tear on godskin duo so it's a fair fight lmao
Whoever the legend grinding coop boss fights out with nothing but full ambergris armour and the greatshield is
(mostly just - don't save it for phase 2, lol)
That guy is the best
I wasn't, didn't even know I have it
i used summons for every boss so i wanna go back and beat the shit out of those bosses again solo
ah, fun
then yeah - mohg's shackle has a pretty short activation time, and will throw him to the ground (effectively stunning) for a couple seconds. like 2.5, maybe
yeah if you can get the timing down, it's a DIY opening
good for a damage window, but make sure you're up close. you don't want to waste time having to run towards him before hitting him
I still haven't figured out archery-only PCR
the rest of the DLC yes, but PCR is toooough.
Do the stealth strat lol
and then yeah don't bother waiting. mohg effectively phase transitions at like, the 66% hp mark (counting the extra hp he gets on phase transition), so you might as well get the stun while it works
lol
Oh also fun fact
hmm, I have enough runearcs forever, if I use the shackle that'll be big damage, either greyolls roar doesn't do anything or I'm too far away, I'll also get parry on misericorde
With Mohg’s Shackle and sufficient damage output, you can win the fight before he transforms
parry on misericode is a scam
parry frames r decided loosely by weapon class

parry on misericorde is one of those things that is only good if you're a parry god already
with the 2 fancy ashes of war that parry (carian retaliation & golden parry) not caring
Yeah just use the med shield if you want to parry
no, use a small shield, or a medium shield if you can put carian/golden parry on it
that said daggers have better parry frames than most things that aren't small shields or the special ashes
so it's not as dire as it could be
any ideas for the setup?
weapons/medium shields r about the same i think
theyre both like 7-8 active frames or something
one of my friends learned that curved swords could parry and tried it and didn't believe me because he couldn't parry a godrick soldier correctly in a hundred tries
"By now I should have at least got it right by accident!"
L
your friend would not survive ds2 parries
what're your stats like
idk if I have enough weight left fot that
But yeah med shield with storm wall or carian retaliation is the "best" parry tool
and what seal are you using? assuming lightning spear is your main damage tool?
so +10 dragon communion seal?
though some people swear by the buckler
bring back the colossal weapon slow parry...
yep
me
Slow Parry so funny
buckle or nuckle
I’m also a caestus parry enjoyer tbh
buckler is nice because its like. the least ugly of the infuseable small shields imo
My only small shield build is my trolly invader
buckler just feels like home
but that's the coil shield, and I both cannot and do not parry with it
i deeply respect this one as well, however
because yeah, caestus parrying is another classic
Just playing the hits
Secret strat: Infuse a buckler with Lightning Shield Bash. People in pvp will see a buckler come out and will be trying to play around getting parried.
if you want to use lightning spears as your main thing id probably say pick up the gravel stone seal from leyndell
Then you surprise them with a pretty good hit with solid dex scaling
that's pretty based ngl
seals themed for specific classes of magic (like the dragon seal for dragon spells) grant flat 10-15% bonuses to that class of spell
I’ll teach you my secret technique
but you dont have to wield the seal to use it. being in offhand is OK
Fingerprint Stone Shield with Shield Crash is an atrocity
most of the specialty staves/seals unfortunately aren't very good
so if you cast from the dragon seal (with the better scaling), but offhand the gravel seal, you'll just get 15% more damage
The exceptions are quite good though
the fingerprint shield in general is mad fucked up
the scaling on the gravel stone one isnt worth it to cast from (unless youre dual wielding them in NG+, where its sometimes actually worthwhile) but its nice to offhand
Sure is
no I just have it bc it often comes in handy
when low fp
I kind of wish the gravel seal had dex scaling the way clawmark has strength scaling, to match other lightning stuff
also it'd be a nice niche tool for dex-faith spellcasting
Madness seal
ehh, dex grants action speed on casts
Madness seal does have that but it's pretty bad lol
It sure is dogshit
the niche for dex/fth is having max cspeed without wasting a tali slot
That said I do have a character that dual-wields the madness seal and dragon seal
i do get it though
Cast madness spells from the dragon seal for big damage
i wish there was a str/int catalyst that scaled
i'm a greatsword and seal kinda gal
ah
Mogh was pretty rough with that build though
like a fucking glintstone gauntlet
for the dragon spells themselves then id probably just... not try to cast them in that fight
mohg just doesnt like leaving you time to do those
yeah the dragon spells tend to be pretty awkward in lategame boss fights
theyre a lot better in arenas where standing behind them is a valid option to get a damage window (like larger enemies)
This post was fact checked by Dragon Communion Cultists: mostly true
Dragon Bite will nuke staggered bosses into oblivion
if you enjoy using it, reduvia is almost certainly a better option for this fight - daggers can sometimes be annoying on mohg with some of his hitboxes, but the bleed will be very valuable (mohg getting a damage buff from it sucks, but with 45 vigor you're dying in 2 hits anyway)
Okay admittedly I was thinking of the breaths
Dragonmaw fucks, yeah.
dragon communion cultists can do those things when they have like. actually good setups with it, though. im not sure 50 arcane 30 faith is the pt where dragonmaw becomes super worth it as a gimmick lol
Yeah you want to run like
eleonora's is unfortunately half fire damage
60+ ARC for peak Dragonmaw nukes
so eleonora's is losing around ~40% of its damage, unfortunately
And then you go
LOL
LMAO
and rip like half of the boss’s HP bar out
if you fight him with a fire build it's just like "wow how much fucking hp does this guy have"
my crowning mohg kill was killing him with a +17 steel torch
christ
it was a wild ride
he just nu uhed the seal
?
oh
if you use the seal while he's spiking the air and going "tres"/"dos"/"unus" it fails, since he needs to do those to phase transition
you gotta grab him when he's trying to attack normally
unlucky timing
yep
For peak dragonmaw nukes, get naked, use the stone heart, throw on the Blue Dancer's Seal...
😛
also, another decent arcane/bleed weapon if you're not happy with reduvia on that fight - bloody helice
alr I'll use dragon maw while shackle for phase one, get him to nihil time, dragon maw him and then pray for bleeds
the ruins in altus along the road, right before the bridge to mt gelmir, have a bloody noble guy in the basemen twho drops it
my mind insists even still that Helice is a spelling error
Ahh, SotE in One Hit when…
I'm pretty sure SotE oneshot builds just use the fire knight greatsword
I have it
for its very good scaling and counterstrike damage
its a fun weapon
Yeah probably, FKGS is omega-cursed
god I need to lock in now, I want to get into the dlc tpday
Flame Art FKGS kills everything except Mohg
you on PC?
gods strongest dead guy (PK) vs this flower i found on the ground:
ye
lmk if you want a summon just for tanking
weee i hate his heal
lmaoo
last resort
huh
what'd you tag him with?
i think greyolls roar has a minor grey vfx
and if he bled he'll sometimes get red streaks from the buff effec
ahh fun
lmao. loaded up unmodded ER for the first time in a while, and i'd forgotten the last thing i'd been doing was randomized races w a friend
no points for guessing the friend's name
lock in u got this
If you kill him fast enough before he gets to phase 2.
Winning is winning
PvE is different from PvP
Even miyazaki uses summons
We dont have all the time in the world if you wanna kill something fast and not waste hours on it do so
(i am late as fuck to the convo i am responding to)
wtf
he didn't stagger
like huh
so unlucky
didn't have reduvia out when stagger attack
rot time
wasting rune arcs like crazy rn
why does he heal
I'm gonna loose it
I'm tempted
I cheesed him
ah well
now I feel bad
I didn't know I'd need to download the dlc
it ain't cheese lmao
I just threw maw at it until he folded
An incredibly slow spell that you need to be in sort-of-melee range for
is not cheesing a boss
the souls community has a weird tendency to conflate "not doing a challenge run" with "cheese" tbh. anything that works, works
even if the strats are occasionally hilarious
I consider my archery-only Commander Niall 100% valid
100% valid
This works on normal builds too btw, you can just grab a bow and poison arrows and kill him from outside the boss arena
it's genuinely so funny
You used to be able to do this with Mogh too but they added an invisible wall there lol
lmao are you kidding me you can DO THAT
yeah one of the towers, you can climb up on the wall and just barely tag him inside the arena
and once he aggros he'll make it easier
That's hilarious.
you can also do the whole castle sol skip and get far enough above him to do this with like, spells & skills that arent' arrows
(the one where you jump from the cliffs near castle sol, on a tree with collision, and then jump one more time to make it onto the out of bounds towers)
amazing
if you feel this way, unironically try different stuff you aren't familiar with
ultimately the way you engage with the mechanics are up to you
I had a friend in a similar place for 90% of the base game using Bloodhound's Fang, who really started to enjoy it when he started the dlc and swapped weapons every couple dungeons
I got the brainworms where I personally can't feel this way when I do it rip
theres beating the boss, and then theres winning
and I'm chasing that high
(but ofc however someone else is satisfied doing it good for them! At the end of the day, its just toys)
started seamless coop with my friend
fun so far, we gunned it to stormveil, tearing through tree sentinel and margit, but margit might be a little ambitious at level 19 with +0 weapons
so we're off to weeping peninsula

Radagon does not care for your projectiles
he said "bitch I'll show you a hammer"
Honestly such a cool mechanic that he can just bitch slap projectiles out of the air
RIP to bow only run but it's kinda fire tho
Grapplers when they finally close the gap on the zoner.
yo guys, some advice please, what should I level up?
also the dlc is a banger
runes gone now lol
vigor to 60, arcane (assuming it will continue to be your main damage stat) to 60, and possibly endurance to 25 or so (for stamina & the carrycap for better armor)
in no particular order, really
the dlc adds a couple arcane weps, but mostly str/arc. but the new smithing weapons mostly work really well on bleed or occult
huh, I was talking to a friend about random science stuff today, and realized:
the finger ruins are totally based on Stromatolites visually, right?
early fossils, left by bacterial mats
the oldest fossils, actually
With Metyr's arena (imo) evoking Thermal Vents, and the way the EBs kinda amoeba-like
guess the starborne bosses are just evocative of early life in general
interesting, i assumed they were just based on the geologically formed pillars you find in various places acros the world (and then like, finger-ified to fit the setting)
same, but tbh theres a lot of evolutionary and fossil-y things elsewhere too
so it could be a bit of both
like the oldest dragons as rock, who mutated into fleshier forms
theres almost a literalization of ancient life being stone-like, actual living fossils
yeah no those fingerprint rocks are definitely inspiration, they're just too similar to be anything else
or at least - somebody brought it up at some point in the design process & they took inspiration then, not necessarily the original idea
given glintstone being both a rock and life, how many corpses in the game look petrified (Tutelary dieties, Divine tower fingers, Marika's body) & all the various artificial lives made with spiritually infused stone (Claymen, Golems, Crystallians, Gargoyles- maybe even the Albinaurics?)
I definitely think playing around with the border between rocks and living things was an intentional design goal
Its almost as if all living things come from earth thats just been infused with a little bit of divine spark, a little bit of Gold
theres even natural stone life in the Onyx / Alabaster Lords + Fallingstar Beasts
idk
Nightreign got me thinking about this a little more lmao
the way the setting uses the different metals cause it looks like the Nox might get more stuff in NR
In the same vein, the finger eggs look a lot like giant iron oxide nodules
Iron deposits are the remnants of the oldest oxygen-breathing life
that sure looks like a hematite doesn't it
If intentional to the visual design, it does feel like pretty strong evidence for Metyr bringing life to the Lands Between
its so fucking cool how many real world scientific concepts are re-interpreted through a fantasy lens in ER
and vice-versa
The parallels elevate the impact
like I've seen a lot of fantasy angels who've come down from the heavens - its not often they summon a pulsar while a song based on the first recorded 'sound' of a black hole plays
its easy to see the first kind as just another enemy, but the second is otherworldly
I almost want to say its more respectful towards the ways older human societies tended to interpret the world? It takes them seriously
Sometimes in fantasy you get the 'oh its just sci-fi the characters are just ignorant of'
ER is more like 'yes, and'-ing it
Something can be a living incarnation of a concept, and a shooting star, and a big fuckoff space-dragon all at once
it goes extremely hard with this yes
Agreed :)
the field lines on Radahn's swords are one of the earliest designs that caught my attention
intentionally, too, it's part of the themes of the story that what has been understood as magic or divine will is being reinterpreted as natural law
the refinement of the hero archetype, the refinement of forms of government, the refinement of the alchemical magnum opus and the refinement of magic and alchemy itself into science or something resembling science are kind of all tied together
mhm
and the repeated sentiment of people not quite getting the whole picture, attached to their understanding of the world
decrying what doesn't fit neatly as heretical
its all just different ways of interpreting (or maybe seeing, given all the eyes?) the same underlying reality
wait what the fuck?
When does that happen?
metyr :)
iirc metyr's ost samples black hole noises some scientists published or something
I'm calling her an angel 25% ironically
she is a divine creature from a higher plane, a star come down to earth, whos body (used to) represent a certain mathematical purity-
but also
she doesnt look like the usual ones lmao
shes a finger bug
and yeah, when her phase 2 OST starts
theres a transition
i am a big fan of metyr's design, ambiance, etc. everything about her fight
except the mechanics. mechanically it sucks
A half-hour-long phase 1 extension of Metyr, Mother of Fingers from the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree

iirc
it also pulls a little bit from Holst's "The Planets"
but i think the fucked up finger creature in "rom's moonside lake but in a cave" is great
but I don't really have the ear for it
Living Failures did very clearly pull from those pieces, so I wouldn't be surprised if she had it too
NASA released new audio approximating the sound of a black hole at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster, which experts discovered had a pitch over a “million billion times deeper” than the limits of human hearing, making it too deep to be heard.
CBS News Streaming Network is the premier 24/7 anchored streaming news service from CBS News and...
she really grew on me
I like the way she takes the repeated thing of people sad + left behind + holding tight to a reminder of what they lost
to such an alien level
i think my main complaint with metyr is honestly that it's so tedious to get to her, beyond just the fight itself kinda sucking with most weapons. it's appropriate narratively, but i wish there was a way to get to her that didnt involve listening to ymir yap
I step back, look at her, look at Renalla, look at Messmer, look at Radagon, look at Malenia etc
and just go
man.....
(and more importantly, that didn't require going all the way through cerulean coast to the first finger ruins. getting to the second set is easy)
it also is a sign that the Greater Will, which is about the furthest thing in the setting from human, is still a negligent parent which abandons its children. As above, so below.
yeah thematically i think she's my favorite of the dlc bosses, i think. maybe 2nd behind midra
BB Great Ones fucking FUMING at Elden Ring parents smh
they dont know how good they have it
my ranking is midra & metyr #1/2, then messmer & tree #3/4
"all i got is my placenta and these stupid fucking wings"
oh you threw two of your kids in the sewers cause they grew some horns. oh its fine cause you've got 'nameless others'. must be real nice.
me beating the fuck out of a pregnant woman in the bloodborne sewers:
I wouldn't know because I don't have playstation 😔
(im counting chalice dungeons as sewers)
I guess I'll just have to settle for beating up a pregnant woman in the Finger Cave 🙄
and a single mother, to boot!
i then proceeded to beat up a pregnant man immediately after, personally
honestly he might deserve it, what with that Anna puppet
Metyr definitely has one of my favorite themes though
I like how cleanly it tells her story, through just the music ||and lack of, later||
||The 'holy' chords at the start almost immediately shifting a few notes and getting corrupted every time it repeats, the ominous undercurrent, and then it just stops except for the distant echo. It's gone.||
the broken and discarded really do be clinging to fleeting simulacra. and it does give them a modicum of sympathy.
that 'secret hallowed rite' wasn't lying
found an account posting some stuff from the recent-ish artbook
the one for the dlc
mmmm concept art
none of the enviromental stuff, but
pretty much all of the bosses + a whole ton of weapons
thats the Stone Sheathed Sword / Sword of Light / Sword of Darkness
its all technically the same weapon, but you get it + swap it using these altars peppered throughout the land of shadow
^ if you saw these
I think it was also a cut base game weapon? It's model was in the game even at launch (Like Euporia!) and just got reused for the dlc
ooh, very cool
that's SUPER cool
i really like the light one, might pair it with leda's chestpiece
I think its some sort of thematic point on light and darkness as intertwined
close 2nd goes to the stone one
oh yeah its great for cleric-y builds
because it's very funny
The stone sword is underrated honestly
kaBAM
it's not amazing but it's interesting that it does bash damage with a straight sword moveset
i'll definitely keep an eye out when i go through the dlc again
strike damage rather
ooooh
that would be nice to have when you're crawling through caves for smithing stones in the early game 😭
smacking the miners
and it has square off which, while it may not be flashy, has always been good lol
what shield is this?
hungy lil guy
Looks like Eclipse Crest Greatshield
Honestly a banger of a shield, really good defense/weight ratio and it buffs some of your status resists
I forget how you pick it up
it drops off of Mausoleum Knights
is it just a drop?
yeah
yeah fair enough
wait do clubs and other strike weapons not bounce off of them?
Well, if you wanna try a greatshield this is a good choice. 15 weight (on the low end for greatshields), 67-75 Guard Boost depending on upgrade level, and a hefty passive boost to Robustness/Immunity/Focus so you're less vulnerable to all statuses not named Death
kind of ironic
It is yeah lol
also
What’s bigger, Limgrave or a corn farm?
Could a stadium fit inside Placidusax’s arena?
How big would a Lands Between Lego set be?
I’m sure that these very important questions have been weighing heavily on everyone’s mind, so of course I had to do a deep dive into the geography of the Lands Between (and the Land of Shadow) to find the answers on...
Oh, another interesting thing Eclipse Crest has going for it: It's top 3 for Magic Defense
tbh I always assumed the in-game map was even still a little compressed compared to how big it 'should be'
on par with Moore's and only a little worse than Fingerprint
holy moly!
it's less standout when it comes to lightning/fire/holy but still impressive for its weight
it's just a really stacked shield
i will tank for my friend
tbf I wouldn't expect a giant metal shield to be too useful against lightning
hmmm, i was planning on going paladin and grabbing heal from afar, but since he's doing some kinda of dex/int, maybe he can shoot me some heal balls once in a while instead if he wants to put stuff into faith too
yeah that's generally where elden ring falls on shields. Metal shields tend to have mediocre to low lightning defense, wooden ones tend to do better against lightning but poorly against fire.
I was surprised by just how compressed it was. Limgrave is smaller than the average farm, for example
and it's a full kingdom ruled by what would be the largest castle anywhere IRL
thats why I think its just representations of the areas you're going through
architecture is probably to scale, but I assume Marika's village had more than two houses lmao
huh
I never noticed the internal sea in the Lands Between was higher than the external sea
🤔
what a weird detail
no idea how to take it
Yeah it's wild that you can see the edge from the Beast Sanctuary in Caelid
It's even shown on the map!
I love being able to see the detail in the wolf crest shield!
Especially the moons: I'm pretty sure the Twins are at the center (which fits Rellana) while the Full is off center
While the Dark moon overshadows them both (in the exact same position as in the age of stars cutscene)
Yeah! They're such beautiful shields
I can imagine how bad the camera would be :p
real & true
Trying to come up with more builds based around certain aesthetics
a beast incantation one with the divine warrior armor and claw hammer sounds fun
man I'm fuckin scared of fighting Radahn still
Welp I have properly fucked up my playthrough lol. I had intended to stay at RL50 permanently and summon at lower levels, but now I'm at fire giant and I have a +21 weapon. I now cannot summon for anyone ever. I am an ecological anomaly and I can't go back

commit to the bit, rl50 clear the DLC too
my rl1 dlc playthrough taught me a lot, including that it's worth doing low level runs once to see what they're like, and then never again
lol
t. Miquella
Can anyone help me with him...
please, I beg of someone
nevermind someone helped me poke him to death
If by some chance you're in this server, Poking Machine
God fuckin bless you
gotta lock in
yoooo?

The Gate of Divinity is made of flesh. Kera's data mining revealed decayed & bloodied assets within the sacrificial structure. I will explore the implications of this in the context of Belurat society.

I missed this I guess
interesting stuff found in files re: initial art direction for Enir Illm
including
this bit
which is probably the most interesting part
I do really like its blasted-dust look in the final though
but could you imagine?
it would've been nearly beyond parody to put the poison swamp in the final boss room
Earthen Peak 2 Mythra Boogaloo
absolutely the fuck not
I would have legitimately said no and quit lmao
Fromsoft really not beating the poison swamp loving allegations.
Im pretty sure Miyazaki admitted it already in an interview
"i cant help it, i love poison swamps" aaa beat
its a good bit
Nightreign dev said there wouldn't be poison swamps because Miyazaki wasn't involved
the illusion of free choice...
League of Legends <-----> Fromsoft RPGs
Gamer Toxicity
Im honestly
really surprised they didnt do deathblight swamp yet
Honestly the run towards the Mensis Nightmare with the giant winter lantern sort of functions this way
bloodborne slow poison is also fucking hilarious
Though at least Frenzy doesn't just insntantly kill you like deathblight/petrification
💀
Honestly DS2 has some really insidious stuff
The corrosive areas are impossibly obnoxious
DS2 was not afraid to get diabolical
i will never forget Frigid Outskirts
not for as long as i live
the curse painting nearly got me
I was looking at enviromental details and then just "what the fuck is happening"
or the brume tower npc whos coded to run away into enemies in the darkness
or the jester in shulva, or ofc the Eleum Loyce guy
I think it had the best invaders of any of the games, no question
i didn't like the invaders cause they were all way stronger than me every single time i met any of them and i got curbstomped pretty much every time i had to deal with one
always felt like a pitched battle any time an invader showed up
I kinda like that myself
its a reason I really liked the Forlorn just showing up randomly
it was just kind of annoying for me
especially in areas like that one place in the sunken king dlc where the jester guy invades
i had spent like, all of my spells already before getting to him so the fight there was fucked
I liked them a little more annoying than ER's (imo forgettable) ones though
they feel honestly a lot more real than invaders in other games
if I had to pick one side or the other
but they are such pitched fights i just cannot enjoy them
actually do Greatjar and Fia's Champions count?
if so those definitely gave me a lot of grief
mostly the former
"just don't try to get greatjar talisman at level 50" do I look like I quitter
I dont think I even thought of that ever lmao
lol
the slight slope got me a few times
its just enough to sometimes miss a swing I was banking on poise-breaking with
in ds1 pretty much
right after I beat O&S, feeling like hot shit ("Omg, that was the boss people talk about, I'm so fucking good nothing can stop me!")
walk outside
forget I didn't have the turntable set right, fall off the edge
very humbling
same thing happened in Shadow Keep
jumped the little hole in church distict, made a note to remember it, forgot it after the water-removing cutscene
It probably took several employees physically holding Miyazaki back to stop this from happening
the mental image is sending me
yeah he'd have to be downright
swamped
😎
another interesting thing about MeatGate is that it underlines something else that survived to existing Enir-Illm - lots of red
same as providing an original reason for the poison goop flowing through Belurat
like obv the whole thing is just
super gold
but pretty much all the time the floor mosaics bring out the gold, its attached with red
(also black)
given the dlcs focus on shadow-and-light, and all the red-and-gold links, its pretty fitting
if the gate itself was originally just a huge bloody gate, it underscores how gold is born from the baser, redder elements and maybe why the blessings dried up when the dark red shadow was removed
which still exists with the gate now, cause of the trailer
just a bit understated
Now I'm wondering if frenzy is involved in the meat gate too. There are weird connections between the fly men and frenzy in the DLC already
or if frenzy and grace are supposed to be paired opposites
both meld/melt everything together, but frenzy just annihilates meaning while grace creates the elden ring that creates an order for the world
That's reflected in the base game too, right? All the crucible era stuff is much more reddish-gold and that's when the erdtree's blessings were flowing freely
removing the red base elements even though they're what seems to make it all work is a running theme
I feel the central woods in leyndell counts
The one jam packed with wormfaces
ya
Imo, its also the reason for Radagon's red hair, or the scarlet rot being the color it is
but those are more speculative than based on like, direct text
I think the coolest thing i saw in SOTE was prolly seeing the crucible tree shit overlaid on the Scadutree
theres a consistent usage of red as 'impurities in gold'
its interesting with nightreign looking like its adding a white spirit tree
this
mmm copperg
finding out about it and going to see it was super fucking sick
its just one of the best colors
oh yeah i should reinstall the co-op mod so i can see if i still have a save file of my first ER character pre-SOTE
its notable too that Malenia couldn't be cured by GO fundementalism (if I had to guess, because it didn't see her innate rot as 'something to cure', its unitary: 'All things yearn to converge')
and Miq's solution - what he identifies as the issue with gold-as-it-is
is that its too alloyed
oh sick
it needs to be cleaner, it needs less impurities. I'm not surprised at all ||what happened to his other half, given that.||
nice
like a fuckin
idiot, I NG+'d again right before stopping my ER loops
so my main file has just no sites of grace
which is annoying when I'm like "hmm I need some pics of Malekiths boss arena- ah fuck"
going to just pop my pre-SOTE character into the Seamless save file
you can do that?
might actually just go play SOTE again before i do Demon Souls
og or remaster?
og
I need to figure out ER modding. Kinda want to try convergence
convergence is fun
its spell-rune system is something I wouldn't mind seeing adopted to fromsoft, if they ever make an open world game again
i don't have much in the way of boss completion in SOTE since i did everything with summons
ironically, the only bosses i fought solo in SOTE were i think Divine Beast Dancing Lion since it was the second last boss i fought
and PCR
wtf, this save is pre-malenia somehow...
(oh before I forget I want to point out that frenzy's two main colors are yellow ie: 'not-gold' and dark red - and that cut content for it calls it the red flame of frenzy + the red eye merchants ty zullie)
so like maybe idk
very noticable red accents
rip
or yay?
if you like her?
wait what the fuck
i have Scarlet Aeonia
is this NG+???
oh ok yeah it is damn
ng+2 even
well that's unfortunate
lets see if i have any other saves that might be pre-sote but not on ng+
actually since i'm doing seamless save i can just download a 100% save base game save file
ok got a character downloaded
I love making a dex/int build with exactly the int level for stars of ruin
peak funny
doing int/faith because it's peak and i'm trying to decide what weapons to use
maybe i won't do int/faith this time
i always end up just doing melee shit against bosses anyway
the twin blades call you
i was going to just do greatsword
because big swords are my bread and butter
but maybe i'll do something different
maybe i do a str/dex build
mhm
i usually do fai/int
Might justdo quality and pick up a normal sword and just send it
Was considering trying to switch between Bolt of Gransax and the Dragon Kings Cragblade
lol
trying to decide what level i want to be when i hop into the dlc
i think i started at like 150 when i hopped in the first time and ended off at like 250 so i could access more stuff
realistically i should just go in at whatever level makes it most fun for me since even if i was doing a legit run, i could power level whenever i wanted with the albinaurics
gonna do quality flamberge with some faith on the side for buffs and incantations when not fighting bosses
valid
just gonna roll at like lvl 250 from the start for QOL
Flamberge ❤️
I love my greatest hits fire faith build
one spell from I think
every fire group
RGB pyromancy
yeah i'm doing Quality Flamberge with some incants on the side
back to basics
i always end up just doing sword kills on everything so i might as well just start off with it this time
oh yeah i'm going to need to get all the scadutree fragments again 😔
https://eldenring.tclark.io/ this weapon AR calculator links directly to the new wiki 👀
i've been thinking of messing around with poison flower blooms twice, it hasn't been going too well with sword and board though :(
damage feels underwhelming, maybe i should add exultations + alexander to my talismans though
I want poison flower blooms twice for my invader but also getting into the dlc at that level with my poison meme build seems like it might be kind of a pain in the ass
So I'm sticking with poison moth flight lol
oh I swore there was a helix pattern specifically with these two colors but couldn't find it in Enir-Illm, thought I might have just misremembered,
it was in DBDL's arena
reading the visual storytelling, walking up Enir-Illm literally seperates red from gold, turning the spiral into seperate + divided lines
'normalizing' this
taking a raw mess of life and refining it until only spiritual essence remains
its why Crucible: Bloom, Spira, the EB's Elden Ring Attack, and Light of Miquella are nearly the same effect
if light can be called down in a spiral, can we find a way to climb up it ourselves?
Im so happy the ||stupid giant hippo|| is in Nightreign btw
What is this?
Oh yeah, I'm just curious what you mean by the wider stuff
'crucible tree overlaid', 'finding out about it and going to see it', so on
Can you go to a specific place and the scadutree changes??
tower
you need to look at the tree at a specific time
well i don't know if you can see it anywhere, but i do know you can see it from the tower
ok found it, closest time you can set it to is noon
so go to the Pillar Path Waypoint, set the time to noon, go get to the top of the supressing pillar, then wait while looking at the Scadutree
it'll change eventually
that should work
hmmm
Since I've realized I can have a copied set of saves that's all NG save files while I do NG+
I am compelled to come up with more builds...
Im still not sure if the crucible was an above-ground physical tree tbh
could've been
but its weirdly vague
roots I might lean towards a little more
I think it was, at one point, and then Marika happened.
theres loads of scattered plant motifs everywhere, but they're harder to tie to a centralized thing
yeah maybe
where would it be, though?
just where the Erdtree is currently? The Scadutree? Is there even a difference, both coming out of the ocean in probably about the same spot?
Well it's still there, sort of. There's certain times during the day where you can look up and see the scadutree in what's basically full bloom.
I like the idea of the crucible being a concept/method rather than a singular object
I'd have expected to find Devonia looking at / near the Scadutree if its supposed to represent that, tbh
or more Hornsent interaction with it, instead all the scadutree-related stuff is post-Erdtree faith
I also like the idea that the crucible knights are all questing for the origins of the crucible and what it’s supposed to be
Its one of the more likely ideas imo
I think someone in here or elsewhere has theorized that the scadutree and the erdtree are one and the same, and both come from the crucible--they're all the same thing, really, but at one point Marika either perverted the whole thing or destroyed it and changed it into/grew the erdtree. Trying to wipe away the ashes of the Realm of Shadow to make her new world.
Which implies not even the crucible knights know what the heck the crucible is supposed to be
I think its probably related to the Elden Ring / It's impact site, or the Sun, or both
all three of those things get conflated all over the place
Yeah, being where the ring landed from outer space would line up pretty neatly.
It is treated more metaphysically though, by pre-Marika items
like all the hornsent items related to it mention it as a specific thing that can grant specific blessings... but they don't seem to have any sort of focus towards a hypothetical giant tree, yeah?
even the tree art on their tablets is representative of the spiral, seems more aspirational to me
but ofc it could also be that theres always been a giant tree in the center of the Lands Between, idk
or at least something plant-y
all the divine towers are just covered in vine motifs around a central circle
same as Farum's ER room
and the two places lit up with eternal sunlight are two places directly related to the ER, Farum and Enir-Illm
¯_(ツ)_/¯
its gold and spinny thats good enough for me
my horny ass could never be elden lord
it might also literally just be the EB itself, tbh
its got most of the aspects, even the dlc ones (Like the hippo's thorns only being shared with the golden star shower move)
its amber, its got the big Arc that the hornsent put everywhere / items say 'look like the crucible' (?), its related to life itself
drip check for my new character, Redeemer Freyja
gettign started on my boss killing by warming up fighting the Blackgaol Knight
honestly prolly just going to play this like normal and clean up all the bosses i miss later
also i am not going to be fighting any of the repeat bosses, so shit like fallingstar beasts, any of the ghostflame dragons, and shit like that is going to be skipped
interesting drip, though I will say I think the fingerprint armor's damage makes it clash a bit with the rest
mhm
I will say additionally tho there are
i was considering trading it out for the Raging Wolf armor
also I decided one of my builds is gonna be a DMGS build
i do kinda like the fingerprint armor more than the raging wolf but this is more clean
a little bit of drip, as a treat
also i've picked up Savage Lion's Claw
because that shit fucking rules
I heard Poison Flower was pretty good for them
gives a huge burst if you land poison on anybody
the reds and whites go sick together, yeah
which of these playstyles was your favorite?
probably third one, with the fireknight shit
ended up doing a cool fucked up like, double setup with it
had Messmer spear and the FKGS
I respect the Rellana drip
also the leda armor with the black knight helmet is choice
I think 1st might be my favorite lookswise
6's vibes are wild though too
6 is one of my favs for sure
i did funny things with it and i think it just works
that was the setup i played through the base game with in prep for SOTE with my friend in seamless actually
haters will say fire isn't a stat
lol
But yeah I'm proud of all these drips
I still need to line up three final builds
Thinking a pure int build is one
Very solid drip, I particularly like the mask + fingerprint armor. Less sold on the fingerprint + the gloves and boots though - the shiny metallic look clashes with the dull scorched fingerprints. I think more matte armor would be better
I think an arcane build is the next one in the cards, never done one
sure it is, the stat is faith
ya just gotta believe
