#Elden Ring (DLC hype room)
1 messages · Page 56 of 1
Both "Bear" skills got buffed this time around
lemme clip it
adn Roar of Rugela was in the "This is werid and hard to say how good it is"
iirc it was good if you went out of your way to stack buffs for it
and even then it was a lot of effort
me when bear communion
19 seconds · Clipped by Freyja The Crane · Original video "Ranking All 42 Elden Ring DLC Spells From Worst to Best... (1.12.3)" by Rusty.
here
clipped the part where he mentions that the initial roar only affects one enemy
Apperntly Rot butterflies now rots a trol leven on the upowards flight part
before the butterlfeis start landing
that's pretty decent rot buildup then
the rest of the incantation hits but at least at the time of that vids release the first bit only hits one enemy
shame the skill version still doesnt lol
freyja yeah damn that'll definitely get fixed
it is kind of fucked
when I tried I remember being knocked out by big stuff which makes more sense now
like the sewer omen gang
yeah
i feel like KLS almost got more powerful
probably not actually cause it doesn't seem to bementioned in the notes
but damn it's a fucked up good spell
3 casts to kill a fire knight
and the third cast poise breaks
...
Okay Roar is scary now
So the way it changed is that it does a big bang of damage imemdiately
all the ticks of damage it used to do
and then a second big bang at the end
daaamn
at 60 faith, godslayer seal i'm doing 2.5k to bloodfiends
and actually causing them topoise break from it
...Yeah, that's really good as a melee incant now
It's got much better posie too
Oh wait right forgot two more weapons i wanted to use i would have to switch to dex for, guardian swordspear and pest glaive
Witness the fuckshit that is KLS
Yeah holy shit Roar is very very nasty now
Land of Shadow does decent damage
AAnd it's so fucking cheap
not good enough to use when i have KLS tho
Oh fuck right land of shadows got a tracking buff, i liked that spell, should check how that tracks now
lol, the second hit knocks fire kngiths on their asses now
they literally get yeeted by being yelled at
also fucking hell this just smashes apart a group getting in your face
Mmm, lovely
...
Okay, you know how the Dynasty masolem mid poityn fight is a bit of a shit?
All thsoe Red alburniacs and the Sanguine noble?
ye
cannot fucking believe Messmers spear r2 takes that much stamina to cast tho
shits obscene
Yeah i think im gonna stick with strength being my main stat, more apt to who i am as a person too
Messmer soldier spear my beloved
Seems reasoinble
ATC:W damage feeling real nice
1.5k was the number i was hitting in base game, 3k in dlc
Guardian Sword Spear hits liek a trukc in dex builds, and it's got really fast R1s
Aye, which is nice but iunno
i just like my strength options more
not to mention pretty sure even with the late additions im still more strength leaning in liked weapons
cause i forgot a strength weapon too that i just havent been using due to the arcane req
I realyl enjoy dex builds, but they are differnet to strength builds
big rock
hunk of material disguised as a weapon my beloved
only need 4 more arcane for it too, so not far off from being able to use it
Fuck it
i want my shiny rock
More levels
One day ill have my strength at 70 and keep it there, but not today
...oh dear god they didn't fix the Greatsword of Damnation's skill
Oh god, is it just supposed to be like that
It's possible that it's more complicated fix
there'll probably be a second patch later
Oh shit they buffed the Beastman ashes though
Hopefully they got a decently sizable HP buff
They're MEAN when you fully upgrade em but they're really squishy
We're still on 1.13 so yeah
i expect this iks nowhere near done on patching
surprised Divine Bird Feathers didn't get anything
or is that spell actually busted and I'm just using it wrong?
No
Nah that spell sucks lmao
It's just shit
i wonder if this is going to help the Swift Spear or hurt it
Beat the DLC last night!!
It was great 😎
||Ansbach… Thiollier… 😭||
||Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men.||
Also gotta say, the music in the DLC is a big step up from the base game imo
a lot more bangers per square inch
The || scadu avatar|| track is
still genuinely one of my favorites for some reason despite its simplicity
It’s all so good
the music in SOTE is insane
Shoutout to whoever made ||Bayle’s|| music sync with the second phase attack
Oh wait shit i think i know why that track is my favorite
It has so much gameplay connection? if that makes any sense
like dynamic music isnt too new, its something a lot of games do, but || scadu avatar's|| feels like it does so much so right with the fading in and out and || how the final third one seems to have a much more exhausted feeling to the music ||
Aye
Same composers made some bangers for earlier fromsoft games but the dlc is unique in how many memorable tracks it has
The fact that the final confrontation with dragon satan is an inconsequential side thing in the story is hilarious by the way
like you’re truly facing down the vilest beast of them all
I enjoy how off to the side it is cause its just
straight up its own story arc
YOU are choosing this route, YOU are choosing to hunt down || bayle||
Yeah!!
Igon also helps it A TON
|| going basically moby dick with a dragon was such a good play ||
The fact they’re so out of the way makes it feel like your playing into the same obsession that claimed ||Igon||
I really hope the next fromsoft game is as character-driven as the dlc was. And that ||the final boss says something to you when they lose lmao imagine||
the Dread is prolly my second favourite part of the DLC
its so fucking good
I'm obsessed with ||Metyr and Promised Consort's|| themes
my favourite part of the DLC has to be ||The Shaman Village||
Yeah
its kind of controversial, but imo ||the cutscene line "I'll make the world a gentler place"|| hits hard
||its a pretty banger line to end the dlc on, given what you see of Marika in it||
its just so sad
||the fact the whole area is accompanied by just the somber strings of the main theme||
||Only the kindness of gold, without Order.||
||That shit fucked me up, i had to just sit for a bit after reading the item descriptions||
i was going to post that
||What was her prayer? Her wish, her confession? There is no one left to answer, and Marika never returned home again.||
Standing where it all began
but yeah that and ||BAYLE THE DREAD||
fucking peak
this DLC is so fucking good
you've done it again, Fromsoft
it actually does clarify the main themes of the game really well
an eye for an eye for an eye…
and answered the biggest questions I had for actually understanding the story (wtf was Marika on + How different is Radagon?)
no summon mfers when Igon exists
^ literally true + me
...
snickering
Testing out roar of rugela in invaisons
I roared a furled finger off a cliff
Since they fixed furious blade not causing bleed, I’m gonna respec for the rest of the game
then i kileld another red and the host at the same time by roaring at them
this is Very Silly
can you imagine not summoning Igon
in honor of ||Ansbach||
|| Ansbach and moore are my favorites from this dlc||
||even though it only made Leda harder and I knew it, I couldn’t bring myself to tell him to remain sad forever 😭||
|| moore showing up in the fight was still genuinely the most saddening thing to me cause i was fully blind, i didn't really not telling him to be sad forever was gonna make me fight my son||
||i almost cried||
||that "Sad, forever..." almost killed me||
|| When i finally realized i HAD to kill him with Leda gone i had the most 'MY BABY BOYYYY' moment||
|| the worst part is i bet you ten to nothing that it really wasn't even moore feeling like he had to be in the fight, he was just sticking with 'family' that likely didn't even see him as such||
||you're right but you shouldn't say it because it hurts my feelings even more||
|| i need a mod right now that lets me adopt my boy||
||✋
🤚 hey he threw a rot pot at me all bets are off||
|| Also freyja have you seen his dialouge if he makes it to post dlc?||
Spoil me @mighty warren
||i don't think so?||
|| " My brood is no more. No one comes to visit. Not Lady Leda. Not Father Dane. Not Sir Ansbach. Not Freyja. Not Thiollier. Not the hornsent. Where have they all gone?
Thank you. No one comes to visit. Except you."||
||i'm actually crying now, thank you||
|| On one hand he lives, on the other hand it's just you and him||
#silksong #eldenring #hollowknight
#eldenring #shadowoftheerdtree But #hollowknightsilksong #silksong
Thank you Sumwan for extracted, organized, and renamed sprites
Anyway, i'm not sure that Roar of Ruggy is acutally good as an invasion tehcnique
but it sure is funny
it's kinda ass in fact
Yes, but consider
you get to scream people to death
and sometimes they go flying off cliffs.
it's better damage wise with the patch at least
man that shot of messmer in front of the tower with a fuckload of impaled bodies and an inferno is so striking
And the accidnetal kills becuase no one understands the aoe
is always hilarious
I literally murdered a host and a fellow red at teh same time by LOUD SCREAMING
...I felt a bit bad for the red, but it was V funny
and accdinetally kileld a host because he ran in to get me
Wonder how the other buffs hold up
No amount of change will make me equip Big Yell
rain of fire does good damage for what it is now
In PvE though ,it's genuinely got a good role as a cheap/aggressive aoe attack
it can even knock knight enemieso n their arse
which is very funny
and any low poise enemy (Alburinacs etc) just get chain flinched for the entire roar
it also does really good poise damage now
Like a couple of roars will stance break a knight
But it. Unexciting.
How is "Giant bear head screaming at people" unexciting to you?!
It's just yelling
where do you live that "Ah, a giant bear head screaming "is just another day for you
tbh, i vastly prefer this over the dragon roars
Anyway as a "joke" incant riffing on them it works very well and it has a niche
Every damn enemy can yell to death the damn Soldiers do it now
tbh i'll awlays favor reliable over exciting
Nail Buff might be quite strong for that
And hopefully won't miss if the enemy sidesteps lightly
and by God, Glintstone Trio might so more damage than the regular, cheaper version
Early word is that Euphoia buffs are good
I havent actually tried it but yeah, it launchign alone will make it somethign i rpobably want to run
n a i l
...fucking lol
Okay, final boss spoilers
LET'S GOOOOOOOO
I cannot believe they're not like 80% holy resistant
So, unoirioncally, Holy is the best elemental damage to use against hte final boss
their resits are 40 to all physical, excpet pierce (20), andvs elemental it's also 40... except in phase one, they have 0 holy resist.
that's some damage
So objectively, Holy does more damage on average
I like to think it's because the golden order REALLY hates whats happening there
like thats some real blasphemous shit just by a different aesthetic
also
universal spirit ash buffs????
The final boss resists in general, are very ufnny weird, and it's nice that Pierce just stays winning across the dlc
Ye, that's nice to see onteh ashes. ORnis was already rather cracked, and he's real good now
Universal and a few specifics
They gave Dung Eater more HP
oh my god lhutel gets higher resistances
she didn't need it
she needed it the least
Wonder if Rotten Butterflies worthwhile now
and More damage
Early reports are it can rot a troll on the flight upwaRDS
Before you even start throwing butterlfies
They buffed the damn Glintstone nail incants which i don't think wasparticularly needed
So lotta rot atleast
oh my god florrisax actually uses her incants now
The nails didn't need more damage maybe but they sure could miss easily for what they are
Yeah i'm excited to see that in motion
as compared to launch where she kinda just sucked her thumb
she was really bad imo
If that Knight Captain fellow actually blocks now he might be great
But for me just kind of had a shield for aesthetic reasons
Dualblade version lasted longer just cause he moves around
confirmed that was a bug
noo, reasons to fight ||The Final Boss||
As someone hwo actually enjoys ashes, i'm happy to see them getting love
same
I don't think taylew got touched but
admittedly he doesn't need to be
Rings of Light buff also nice, hadn't seen it trigger frostbite once
A lot of the dlc summons are actually prettyy decent, or at least he big name ones
Taylew obvs, Ornis was alrady good, Messmer Solider Ashes are just low key terrifiyng
Taylew just
Does what he wants to
Nothing for Microcosm though.. understandable I guess
MSA have become my goto Bozo squad
Wanted more cast range
cheap to summon and effective
That's how I felt about the actual soldiers that makes sense
They gotta 1v1 every other sort even with stat balancing
Dung Eater also got a health upgrade that he probably didn't need
absolutely insane damage
ive never seen him stagger other than fully falling over
and he already has the highest resist in the game
I was hitting with charged heavies for like 1.8 💀
right?!?
that's some absolute fuckshit
actually fucking busted as hell
that's genuinely OP
maybe overcorrected a mite
just a smidgeon
but iirc thats also with a bunch of buffs and talismans geared towards squeezing damage from a stone
doesn't look like that much
this isn't much of an ask for that kind of damage
a geared talisman setup, one single buff and some boosts from physick is not a big ask for that kind of damage
fair enough
it's not one-shot the boss kinds of damage but it is outrageously strong
It's still "beat the boss in a minute" which is, y'know. Pretty fucking impressive.
yeah
i was doing like
2k damage a hit, maybe 2.5k at best with my build
which felt like absolute peanuts
just glad it got a buff for how cool the mechanic is
and how rare dex faith weapons are
Changed the NPC summon signs in certain boss fights to allow the user to summon NPCs simply by pressing the action button once.
OKAY THANK YOU this was such a nightmare summoning Igon for Bayle
And the NPCs for Messmer's fight tbh
yeah
so glad about the changes to summoning Torrent, and in-arena summons
How was torrent changed?
when resummoning Torrent after he dies, your cursor defaults to 'yes' instead of 'no'
I still feel like it should just happen but that's a vast improvement
there's stuff that isn't in the patch, but no idea about new questlines
some weapon/spell changes weren't listed, but I can't remember the specifics
thou'rt... TARNISHED, it seemeth
I hate that i wasnt the only one who thought of the fuckin eyebrow
Ooh, the new patch looks good 👀
I wonder how much the total damage of knight’s lightning spear was changed
Yesss, light greatsword poise damage buffs 😌
I actually stopped a light greatsword run midway because of the low poise damage
happy to go back to that
It's pvp only apparently
Huh, weird
Yeah, people have been complaining about the lack of poise damage on LGS
And by people I mean Chase
But I generally assume he knows what he's talking about
beaten out hard by discus of light
hard to be more efficient than 3 fp
and requires int/faith investment instead of just int
ok well aside from discus of light
it's the best for sorcery i'm pretty sure though
probably
it was already super efficient
only downside is its inability to chaincast
which is pretty hefty
did they basicly add dark hail to the game
in the dlc
or was there something like it in the base game
no
glintstone nails reminds me of darkhail a lot
oh wait, I was thinking of dark bead
not hail
I do not remember how exactly dark hail played
I'll take your word for it if nails feels like it
dark hail is bead but isnt effected by gravity and is basicly a shotgun
people usally just cast it at point blank to get all the damage right away
dark bead is also a shotgun
yeah just looking at grlintstone nails just reminded me of that spell a lot
fair
Ok so I learned something starting a new run as Warrior
My hands need to adapt to controller again
And
Scimitar.. is not very fun ngl?
It feels like I’m swinging through soup
Shashmir too
So Rain of Fire is now the Avatar Deleter
Fun fire option for anything that's not fire resistant and on the big side
Which is a shockingly large amount of things.
THEY MADE ROF GOOD
WE R SO BACK
...why did they buff the Claws of Night? Weren't those really strong, or at least really annoying, in pvp?
founding rain of stars bros... its over...
rain's been nerfed like five times
i think it was already over
it uh
did not hold up as well as i thought it had

The Legend of Zelda...
okay fair
anybody around to help me drop some items to myself? trying to do an owl cosplay run but i don't feel like farming another kaiden armor, plus id like to drop myself a copy of alex's shard so i don't have to burn the erdtree yet and look at an ugly sky :(
how'd you do that? give back fingerslayer blade?
Whatever, next NG cycle I guess
Eyup
Kinda silly that that kills Seluvis, given the Fingerslayer comes in earlier than Leyndell normally
...man
Giantsflame Take Thee is fun
It's like Cannon of Haima if it didn't take three business days to charge up
And had shittier range, that does seem to be an issue
This is sooooo deserved, tbh
I found that, practically speaking, if I was in range for Giantsflame I was in range for Flame Fall Upon Them and the latter was usually a better option to shotgun blast enemies in the face.
Perhaps, but Giantsflame go KABOOM
Whereas Flame Fall Upon Them has less of a boom
i know but i like being evillllllll
but also like i wish we got like more indepth stats cuz i was testing, still havent been stunned out
but hand2hand now has some poisebreak stuff so its aight
Giant'sflame also does very well free-aimed
The difference between rocket launcher and super shotgun, really.
Lockon likes to send it into the ground
people are afk farming again apparently
i found some today in the abyssal woods i love hunting them, iits like a minigame
they were on a rock way down a cliff i had to drop a sprite stone on them lol
Huh, without torrent it’s hard to imagine afk farmers having an easy time setting up the experience
Furious Blade of Ansbach seems pretty good now that it’s not bugged
on top of being cool as hell
im wondering what the stats on the poise increases on the spirits are, pretty much everyone got something, like, they increased damage on messmer soldiers lol, ill have to play aroudn with it in my new spirit using run
oh shit, Messmer Soldiers were already pretty solid
an actual damage buff on them is a nice add
Wait
tehy buffed thsoe guys?!
what the hell
the bozo squad was increidble already
they buffed everyone!
https://www.twitch.tv/thezombiepenguin More elden ring time
I saw but i thoguht bozo squad got left out of the buffs!
poise increase for every non mimic ash but specific spirits got extra bennies
...oh, god
Using a medium shield parry after dagger parrying for so long feels so nice
What the heck is afk farming in ER?
basically you get to a spot nobody can reach on foot with torrent, like a high collumn or like across a bridge, and hide yourself, then summon and leave and the person you summon cant find you or get to you since they dont have torrent and they just leave or die or they fight hunters and you get passive runes
idk why people do it when you can just shoot a bird, theres definitely less of it now, especially with the dlc runes you get, but it is an interesting phenomenon
it's mostly just a way to grief invaders I think
since, yeah it's pretty inefficient at actually gathering runes compared to any actual method
Finally found some armor that fits decent with the Winged Serpent Helmet
banished knight drip, hell yeah
Niiiiiiiiiiice
what are you using
...huh, these sword monuments look like the Stone-Sheathed Sword
How odd
...unrelated, but the patch just turned the Horned Warrior into a goddamn monster
Holy shit this dude is tanky
It's like I have a pocket Gundyr that forgot his halberd at home and picked up a curved greatsword on the way here
Divine Warrior Ornis is a real menace too
...I think the update broke some mobs' AIs
Oh no
damn. mohg got hands when you have 20 vigor and are at lvl 45
twitch
Please tell me you atleast have the pink medicine drank
Hey zombie, I have a level 9 character I wanna get into the DLC, can you help?
took a nap, spent the runes i picked up on the mohg rune (11 levels total lol, to lvl 56) and clutched the fuck up in like 5 attempts
and yes, i had the funny drink - for my owl cosplay run i rushed nagakiba from yura's quest, and my next stop is the great katana in dlc, so i knew i was gonna need to fuck up mohg asap
Depends, how good can you d odge? OH WAIT
😛
in total my setup was dex talisman + soreseal + filigreed crest and i just did a lot of unsheathe and a lot of juking. shockingly, it turns out, that raptor of the mists does NOT work well on mohg
crazy. who'd have thought
Unsheathe fucking him makes sense though
it really doesn't do as well as you'd hope unfortunately. first phase stancebreaks in 4 unsheathes but second takes like 7-8 counting his poise resets? somewhere in there, idk. his swings do hit low so you can't just crouch under :(
first phase im ok but second phase is also oneshot if i triggered bleed recently :(
really fun fight though
Thisi s where fan knives is a big h elp, keep his poise from restitng, i'm pretty sure his poise doenst acutally change between pahses? but i would have to check
yeah, i used kukri, but you really have so little stamina w a total of 20 endurance :(
so any amount that might cause u to be unable to roll 2x in a row fucks you
but yeah, my first playthrough i hated mohg and eventually comet azur'd him (i was a mage). on all other playthroughs, lots of fun
really enjoyable cinematic fight, except when he bugs out and throws blood at his feet 10 times in a row and i just sit there waiting
I find phase 2 really hard with melee but I might just be bad
Mogh with a bow: baby funtimes, barely a fight
Mogh with a sword: oh god why can't i stand anywhere
but yeah it also helps if you stand REALLY close at all times
since then he won't spam too many throw attacks
Mohg as a spellcaster: heehee funi bloo rock go brrrrrrrrrrrrrt
Like they'rea great weapon but
Fan has a huge shot gun of range, you just need a tiny blip of damage to stop poise from resetting
Spamming Comets at one's problems always works
It's why it's popular in pvp, because it's very good at popping bubbles or similar annoyances
hey either of u on right now for me to drop a second great katana + kaiden armor to myself
and coems out incredibly fast
my goal is like, 2 great katanas so i can throw lions claw (maybe new version) and raptor on both so i can switch between and feel cool
K, i'll goto limgrave and be at THe First STep
nice, thanks!
dropping 3 items i think - great katana, kaiden, and probably alex shard
You did!
man idk wtf that guy even had on for vigor but probably 80 or 99
no defensive talismans lol
oh shit i have no duelist finger
give me 60 seconds to horse over to it
Yeah, i wasnt actually specced for bear roaring either
There's a lot of dmaage multis you can stack on to it, it's pretty silly
kinda goated spell tho
ok duelist sign down
but yeah damn that spell seems pretty sick
boosted by roar medallion i assume?
Roar Medallion, Rugella's Pelt, Godfrey Icon, Highland axe, Incant talismans
Highland axe buffs any roar
thats crazy
i should do a red bear run after this one
<--- has said that too many times
with too many different items
thanks!
now to assemble the rest of this stupid build....
Aww, i wanted to see how much the wing stance did to you lol
Roar is werid though, like it's damge is real good but you kinda need to have bullgoat's talisman on to not get knocked out of it easily
and probably want heavy armor because y ou're likely to trade
but if you get it off it does start maiming things as you see - that was with zero of the stacking buffs to make it good there
no godfrey, no nothign
damn that's pretty wild
i wonder if it'll get re-nerfed, because the counterplay of "keep range" seems pretty strong but also i don't think its roll-out-of-able?
I'm not sure
Tbh it poise breaks pretty easily
the scary part is the aoe, but you have noguh time to respond
so
Hahaha, wild. Going from 80 dex to 99 dex adds... 18 AR to milady >.>
and only 21 ar for Backhand blades
im almost surprised its that much lol

This was a deeply personal (and correct) attack
I craft my insults with rpide and exacting knowledge of my friends 😛
Forgot how fun just swinging a massive fucking slab of metal around is
Ironically i've flipped
i've tried my strength focused spear and i can't go back to that kind of metal slab

I wanna get invaded by that guy so bad
I adore an invader with personality
Like i had one called "my main goal" and he just chugged a physic, likely double stuffed with ruputured tears, and ran at me, didnt swing, didnt do anything
just blew up and left
because thats all he was there for
to blow up and act like he didnt know anybody
It might've been shortened cause of text limits, unsure
i just know the joke landed
I haven't seen anyone mention it, but I like how the dlc casts Miquella's needle in the base game in a different light
One of the unalloyed gold needles that Miquella crafted to ward away the meddling of outer gods.
most discussion about it was focused on 'warding away' and 'outer gods'
maybe it should've been more focused on 'warding away meddling'
||It tracks very well to him casting off Trina, and seeking to embrace all underneath his rule||
especially with ||how outer gods gain traction in the marginalized and suffering - he blocks the 'meddling' because his path is the only path for the downtrodden||
I don't even think its malicious, just kinda sinister in implication
||but 'Unalloyed' was always a bit of a suspicious term - whats wrong with the integration of Gold? Why seek further purity - when the ancient color of gold is tinged?||
also this fucks
idk I've seen some people act like the dlc story around Miq ignored all his characterization from the base game, when imo it followed very directly
except for the One Bit
ill make this longer later sorry if i double post this audio. i dont know how to draw wolves. #eldenring #rannithewitch
.... I missed a piece somewhere: why does Ranni hate Messmer?
cause its funny
shes seen what angsty redheads have done to her family
||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpq2fUk56Mo||
Penultimate Fight spoilers
god I love this shit
Helm worn by soldiers who serve Messmer the Impaler. The iron helm features a visor. Though the engraving upon the forehead is a Scadutree design, it is etched in gold. A small consolation to those forced to wage a war without grace or honor.
Thank you
i think it's meant to be more of a shaped visor
but similar look, yeah
one thing that strikes me about the DLC is how Messmer is able to command a large and loyal following despite the price being effectively excommunication
there's Rellana, ofc, but the Fire Knights kit has something about them being disowned by their families as well
Yeah, the officer class of the crusade in general all feel like they were either aristocratic black sheep or second/third sons
like, there's not much to do with a spare heir when the ruling class is all immortal
the unshakeable loyalty of the disfavored son compels a certain sort of person (||and then Messmer dies finally cursing his mother||)
good for him
What's really impressive is that the rank and file are a penal legion and messmer is still able to inspire loyalty
There's like three main components of the crusade: Messmer and Rennala's personal entourages (Fire Knights and Sorcerers), religious fanatics(Black Knights), and penal units(the men at arms)
with a handful of perfumers and whatever those omenkillers are doing there
i could see the crusade being the origin point of the omenkillers, given, well, the hornsent
yeah but it seems to have happened after Godfrey's exile, which by necessity postdates Morgott and Mohg's imprisonment
Perfumers are the origin of the omenkillers, so one being where the other is makes sense
It feels like he called the disadvantaged and the discarded to his banner and we know he gave them parts of his fire abilities
And given how stratified Marika made much of the lands between in her rule
That’s a good motivator
the fire knights actually learned the messmerflame spells out of loyalty to messmer, more than a gift
its mentioned they couldn't replicate what he did innately, so relied on Incantations to bridge the gap
Messmer’s flame could not be gifted
"hey boss, we've expressed our undying loyalty by replicating what you hate about yourself 🙂 "
awkward conversation right there
Given how one of them has a hood that increases Int they might have started out as religious scholars
You know what
I think he’s the first er character that made me think “I can fix him”
they do seem to be studying stuff in the Shadowkeep
Rauh Ruin-stuff and Divine beasts
notably, serpent imagery isn't present in any of Messmer's heraldry or in Shadow Keep's architecture, not like Rykard and his own snakey vibes.
theres a few snakes on the fire knight sets
oh
but its always the two winged ones
yeah and the fire knights know more about Messmer than they let on
Messmer is enough of a wet cat to be tragic, but also undeniably did truly awful things of his own will, which is just absolutely peak character imo
I think what happened is that after they finished the genocide and learned they weren't going to be welcomed back, they decided to preserve and catalog what was left of Hornsent culture. Aside from Devonia and a Fire Golem i haven't found any crusader presence in Rauh(which seems to predate the Hornsent civilization by quite a bit)
Yeah
Notably the shades in Specimen Storage are hornsent shades
using Messmerfire incantations, which is really interesting
thats something I was noodling on for a while
if the Shadowkeep was a pre-crusade structure, or built by Messmer's forces
was there a truce here? are the shades sapient enough to learn and forgive?
All the living hornsent we meet are survivalist fanatics huddling in the bombed out ruins of their old religious centers
and many of them are old
the inquisitors are all explicitly old women
Some item descriptions state that some of the Fire Knights actually advocated for preserving the specimens rather than destroying them
so if shadowkeep is built on an older structure, nothing of that structure remains
thats about where I was at
I think it was built by the crusade, perhaps over an existing settlement, or perhaps the lower quarter was only flooded after the rebellion of some of Messmer's forces
especially because the Shadowtree doesn't seem to predate the Erdtree
Also i recently realized, that for a woman who created an order that hates magical fire, Marika ironically seems to have been a blacksmith by vocation. And smithing used to be a religious practice.
she also specifically asked a blacksmith to help the tarnished come kill her
'asked' is doing a lot of work lmao
Its quite possible that the "I Hate Fire" thing came from Radagon
I think Hewg could very well be from the Land of Shadow
though I'd slot Marika in as more an early perfumer - a healer - than blacksmith
Marika's personal badge of office is a blacksmith hammer
oh yeah thats 100% true I just meant
I'm not so sure you have a choice when a God tasks you to do something
very good point!
he seems exceedingly willing at least
it was not like, a one-sided thing, he really wants to fulfill that promise
in fact he literally says it was the only reason he kept living
the dlc really locked me in on Marika as desiring..... an end, I guess
yeah
Hewg's projecting paternal feelings onto Roderika, its possible that he had a similar relationship with young Marika
yeah
I think she may have called Radagon back and investigated the Golden Order together to see if there was a way to pass on Godhood, or swap
thinking about Hewg now
if i'm right about her being a former blacksmith, he might actually have been her mentor
and when there wasn't one that she found, it was fuck it - let us both be shattered then
Allow me to c-call you this, just once, before it ends. My lord, f-for that is what you are.
He does seem utterly terrified of her though
I think he can be afraid of Marika-the-God, and also have geniunely cared for her when she was just Marika-the-Shaman
he prays to her
Marika's words at the minor erdtree church reference "companions", its possible Hewg was one of them alongside Godfrey and possibly Radagon
no matter what he still prays to her, and he lives yet to fulfill his promise to her
I actually think the Minor Erdtree echo is from Radagon
like she had an adventuring party with her on her vengeance quest
and is supposed to be the foundation of fundementalism
because yeah its a weird way for a Queen-God to talk, and stands out among the others
In Marika's own words. I declare mine intent, to search the depths of the Golden Order. Through understanding of the proper way, our faith, our grace, is increased. Those blissful early days of blind belief are long past. My comrades; why must ye falter?
What I think happened is that Marika sought godhood for revenge at first, then gradually lost sight of her motivations as an outgrowth of that initial seeking, and once she found the answers, she didn't like them at all. Enter the Shattering
Like she's trying to find deeper spiritual catharsis in the Golden Order when no, its just revenge and math
This quotes interesting because the Church you find it at, the Minor Erdtree church, is also where you get the GO fundementalism seal
i have still not recovered from ||Shaman Village||
and a Golden Centipede, which references them as well
Marika's Seals do increase Intelligence too
so I think what occured there is Radagon - a champion, someone more likely to have comrades - is declaring his ideology towards Fundementalism
its very much his baby
Yeah but Melina says its literally in Marika's own words
(in the same way I'd say the Erdtree is a stand-in for Marika)
yeah, but Radagon is Marika
||Secret incantation of Queen Marika. Only the kindness of gold, without Order.|| is so fucking devastating with the knowledge of what happened with the golden order and the events that led to the shattering
Melina's just tuning into the words left behind
plus, faith and grace in the GO relates to the blessings of Marika
Like, its clear that the "refinement" of the Golden Order, the rejection of the Crucible etc began at Marika's behest
shes the one true god - what use would she have for faith?
GO Fundamentalism would simply be an outgrowth of Marika trying to resovle the contradictions in her own paradigm
I'd agree with that
which is what Goldmask did
imo its pretty clear Radagon and Marika were aligned at one point
his chad self just found the solution once given all of the facts
(why else would she specifically call him back, and send away her other lord?)
but no longer
The way I see it both radagon and marika contributed to GO fundamentalism (Marika's the one who met the Sorcery Hand underground after all), its just that Radagon clings to it dogmatically while Marika actually comprehends it
Sorcery Hand?
T-poses at a tree
mathematically solves religion
refuses to elaborate
dies
Metyr
ah
I think they both comprehend it - Radagon's definitely not portrayed as someone dumb
half his lore is about studying and learning trades
Radagon is extremely learned
his Tragedy, imo, is being a cast-off and incomplete shard who sought perfection
he's a sorcerer king
and is now eternally broken
he knows all of the magic shit
Learned, but without innovation
yeah
he became the Golden Order, and thats the sad part
ehhhh, he did invent several spells explicitly
he's stagnant now, but thats the sad part
Radagon is like, Lawful Neutral incarnate so he comprehends the magic laws of physics but doesn't have the personal agency to question a broken system
do love his contrast with Godfrey as the Barbarian King
the system can't be broken in his eyes, its the system
yeah
He's the end state of IRL fundamentalist movements that start out with critical scholarship but devolve into dogmatic arcana that religious figures parrot by rote without question
though I interpret his attempts to fix the Order as ||also a bit of self-defense - Marika and him are the Order, the Elden Ring is physically housed in them||
||Marika shattering the ring, and him trying to fix it, can also be read as Marika shattering them both, and Radagon trying to keep them alive||
I dont know why Im spoiler tagging
watching Ludwigs SOTE vid and i do not think this man is exploring, with the damage he is taking he cannot be at a proper Scadutree blessing level
At the end of his life, Radagon's intelligence manifests less as scholarly empiricism and more him being able to memorize the entirety of a religious treatise and its commentaries and the commentaries on the commentaries and so on and so forth
another W for Goldmask
he has nothing but W's
if my read on Marika's motivations holds water, she'd even agree!
its like how Raya Lucaria is actually implied to have stagnated
oh yeah there is tons of evidence of stagnation in Raya Lucaria
they also get hella dogmatic
because there's like, no innovation anymore. They're clearly all very smart but they're dogmatic self-absorbed academia whose priorities consist of classist one-upsmanship and fellating their own history
what with Thops, Sellen, Lusat and Azur
they were probably on the right track kicking Sellen out tbf
if Rennala wasn't actually cripplingly depressed she could probably fix things
but she's kind of out of commission
shes the one who actually banned study of the current
that's not unreasonable at all though
it was the Carian controlled school that prevented its study
i actually think that was like, the most reasonable possible course of action
Like you'd think these corrupt sorcerers would be doing unethical experiments but no, Raya Lucaria is painfully orthodox and afraid of innovation
i just mean that Sellen, Azur and Lusat are innovators
Thops is probably actually the best example
Sellen is kinda nuts
and Azur and Lusat are basically a big justification for why banning research into the primal currents was based actually
oh for sure, she was (implied?) to have been orbing students
I mean studying the current is implied to fuck you up
it's not so much implied
as it it just
stated
Azur and Lusat studied it intensely and their brains got turned to crystals and it just permanently fucked their psyche to each produce one single spell related to the Primal Current
Thorn sorceries too, disdained by the academy
The Carian family is implied to have connections to the Eternal City/Uhl Culture and was in contact with Sellia, so it seems to have been far more open minded than modern Raya Lucaria
and the process irrevocably ruined them mentally
The Academy also looks down on the demihuman sorcerous tradition
thops...
poor guy 😭
I'm still not entirely sure what to think about the current with the "Lightless Abyss" mentions in the dlc
Ymir's hat attributing it to the Greater Will, a sorc underlining it as the home of the Fallingstar beasts found literally right next to a finger ruin - Comet Azur having the same starry patterns Metyr, Elden Beast, and Astel all share...
Iron
I like the scarf
anyway Godfrey is based, love me a barbarian warrior kinda guy
you think he was doing the divine beast warrior thing when he killed serosh?
how do you mean?
Godfrey seems to have been from a culture that was influenced by the Hornsent, but wasn't Hornsent himself
ah, Serosh is kinda like a beast-spirit, right?
yes
and after Godfrey rips him, he starts acting more liony
arguably one of the more, if not most powerful ones
he might have been mantling aspects of Serosh
could also just be Hoarah Loux shit
i do like the idea of it being an invocation
100% pure Elden Lord
Damn
its not Serosh, he's just like that
Godrick actually got me
my read was he's always been like that and serosh was there to hold him back
It’s been a while since that happened
yea
yeah Hoarah Loux is Godfrey being unrestrained by Serosh
Serosh is implied to be like, mantling Hoarah Loux to an extent to take on his emotions
he's basically letting the barbarian rage of Hoarah Loux go through him to allow Godfrey to act the civilized king
I think Godfrey might have been his culture's equivalent of a Lion Dancer
which is also why i think that when Serosh roars while Godfrey holds Morgotts body
because the Divine Beast Dancers in Belurat seem to place a lot of emphasis on being "sculpted"
that is Godfrey feeling emotions so intense that Serosh physically has to react
bodybuilding as a religious practice
at least, that's my read on it
i strongly headcanon that Godfrey actually loved his kids but just, couldn't really do much of anything to help them, the way that scene plays out is too emotional feeling for me to consider otherwise
interestingly, we still know less of Godfrey's origins than Marika's
like he just kinda shows up in the historical record as Marika's killstick
he seems to be associated with the Crucible in some fashion, but the only info the DLC has on him is the Talisman of Lord's Bestowal
fake ruler?
puppet king?
he was Marikas beat stick
when she needed something to die she threw Godfrey at it
he almost certainly didn't have any actual power
weeeeellll
too an extent
Like he probably handled wartime decisions
they do also have genuine power because Marika went to great lengths to be able to inhabit both the position of God and Elden Lord through Radagon
and the Fortified Manor in Leyndell seems to have been his personal estate
i imagine Godfrey probably didn't have much say in things
a locus of power separate from the Queen's quarters
he was on the martial side of things as his nature demanded
I get the impression that Godfrey didn't handle bureaucracy because he didn't care for it, not because he lived at Marika's mercy
a god needs a lord
it was probably a mix of things
i literally just cannot imagine Godfrey cared about politicking much
but also i think Marika was probably making the decisions regardless
Serosh was for forcing a warrior to be vaguely lord-shaped
But how Marika encountered Hoarah Loux is unknown
this basically
Hoarah Loux is absolutely just a eternal war guy
Serosh mantled that aspect of him and let him function nominally as Godfrey instead
there are quite a few cultures from beyond the lands between that for better or for worse exist in armor descriptions only
but that doesn't mean Godfrey is not an eternal war guy because he absolutely still is
the land of reeds, eochaid, the highlands and badlands, where the dancers are from
i'm being kind of facetious but i think it is noteworthy that HL's epithet is just "Hoarah Loux, Warrior"
Godfrey's function seems to have been as an army general
yeah
like. yep. that's him. that's what he is
there's also the cut line Godfrey says that implies that he signed on in part to have sex with Marika
which is like
that's as much civilization as you're gonna wring out of the guy
in the end i suppose they're simply not too important to the story, which is totally understandable
he can lead an army instead of just punching people
but there's also the cut lines that imply that Godfrey helped plan the shattering with Marika
very good of Serosh
king shit?
Godfrey truly has no plan except to bang Marika and fight
wife guy but your wife is god and she likes you bc you're good at hitting things
i love the writing of the Lord of Beasts basically taming a guy
what's that Augus quote, again?
man so fucking feral and fight happy they had to get the lord of the fucking beasts in to make him more civilized
i mean if Serosh is from Farum Azula he's probably more cultured than humans
well yeah but that's not what i mean
Relax, son. Enjoy every moment! You fight, then eat good food. You fight, then drink fine wine. You fight, then sleep with beautiful women. Hell, fight with beautiful women! That is what it means to live.
this describes Hoarah Loux
they had to get the king of the beasts to force a man to be civilized
The Talisman of Lord's bestowal also implies that he followed Marika in part because she promised to make him stronger
like not just any beast could pull it off. it had to be the best one
it's funny from a narrative perspective that a beast which is usually depicted as ferocious and feral had to teach manners to a guy
in fact they literally had to get the king of the beasts to do it
and he has to follow the guy around constantly and keep it up 24/7
the beastmen and whatever society they had in farum is so fascinating of a concept, it makes me wonder what sort of beasts once ruled the lands and who the storm lord was
So it's kind of implied that Intelligence and Faith were bestowed upon the beasts by the Mother of Fingers, hence the five fingered hand symbolizing the intelligence of the beastmen
Admittedly, the lord of beasts does so by..... constantly digging his teeth and claws into his body
yeah but Metyr doesn't have Five Fingers
Storm Lord is probably the Stormhawk King
which is VERY funny in juxtaposition with Hoarah Loux, who doesn't give a rat's ass about faith, is dumb as a sack of rocks, and needs a beast to civilize him
she has....well too many to count
she has plenty, she can spare five
i headcanon that he is also mantling the rage that Hoarah Loux has in him as well
or just generally taking on Godfreys emotions
letting him be somewhat more rational and stately
my two cents is that the biting and clawing is just, like
literally a restraint harness
yeah he's a living choke chain
when he starts to get too excited Serosh digs teeth and claws into him
that would make sense also
and then when Godfrey decides he actually needs to go apeshit
he does away with the choker
there are a lot of disparate uses of storms in elden ring, the banished knights and commanders, the divine beasts, godrick, stormhawks themselves
Placidusax
i feel it's related to the crucible spiral, but there's also the connection between dragons and storms
Not Godfrey interestingly
Placidusax could also be it
despite what Godrick seems to think
My friend who I debate Elden Ring lore with is of the opinion that it was the Stormhawk King, and that they're a Crucible god / deific animal
the commanders have twisted horns on their armor, and banished knights have a single horn and a dragon on theirs
I think Stormveil's storms are the remnant of some old culture that's been forgotten
so there's probably a mixture of both in there. i wonder if the ancient dragons too worshiped the crucible?
its clear that the castle wasn't always a penal colony. It predates Godrick.
The hornsent do revere storms themselves, what with the lion
Storms just seem to have been seen as divine in general
my favorite mini-theory is that godrick grafted commander niall's leg and that's why he can use the storm, he has one of those duck foot greaves
that is a very fun theory
it could be from a banished knight but it is quite large and it's just fun to think that
Its like how smithing used to be seen as broadly holy by a bunch of different cultures before the Golden Order
ooo I like that read
I think the storm stuff is likely crucible related, if tangentially
though what exactly the Crucible is is still kinda up in the air
seems like 'force of vital energy' is the most correct?
Devonia is staring very specifically at Enir-Illm
yeah
it's just like, such a tender moment with the way Godfrey talks to Morgotts body and the way he gently holds him, and there is not really a reason for Serosh specifically to roar so i feel like it's an expression of what Godfrey is feeling at the time
or just primal Erdtree, but the Ruah crucible aspects are much older than the Golden Tree
proooobably still Elden Beast related?
its still gold
I think the Crucible is the world's "inner god" (or one of them) that Marika bootstrapped the Elden Beast to
the Crucible itself could very well be the Elden Ring
the "primordial elden ring" in farum azula does feature a crucible pattern, so it may not be so far off to say the dragons too revered it
using the Crucible as fuel to grow the Erdtree
yeah it could also just refer to a sort of divinity found when life is combined en-masse
Godfreys grief at seeing his son in that state, dying, is such that Serosh who i personally think is keeping his emotions in check, cannot help but let it out by roaring
there's mentions throughout the land of shadow to some sort of polytheistic tradition the Hornsent were part of
The Hornsent just revered the Crucible above all
even the Ruah crucible spells show the Erdtree sigil, though
(but that could be gameplay reasons)
Interestingly the Giants and the Forge Golem religion seem wholly unconnected to the Crucible
but the Fell God IIRC is not described as an Outer God
there's also the dragon god, whoever that is, though it's my belief that it's simply the greater will
or rather, none of the item descriptions that mention it use the word "outer"
there are a bunch of different type of gods
The Fell God could just be native to the Lands Between
like the Crucible or the Tutelary deities
who's known for leaving everyone on read way earlier in the timeline with the dlc's revelations
there's also the "old gods" mentioned in the Meteoric Ore Greatsword
which appears to actually be a repurposed giant arrowhead of all things
that's the most mysterious element of things to me. i try not to think about it
it's a shard too
so at one point something up there in the sky was shooting giant flint arrowheads/javelins at something else
same
"fashioned from an excavated shard of an arrowhead that was once part of the old god's arsenal."
my best guess is that they're the big ol' skeletons seen in caelid and the mountaintops, but what that means in the context of elden ring is... pocketed, at best
the most interesting thing about the meteoric ore greatsword imo
is it shows how old Metyr is
this ancient arrowhead from a civilization we know nothing about and have no identifiable records of was made of a rock that came after her
shes almost certainly the oldest living thing in the Lands Between
how do we know it came after her?
her remembrance does say metyr was the "first shooting star to hit the lands between"
Metyr is descibed as "the first star that fell on the lands between"
her rememberance calls her the first shooting star to land in the Lands- yeah
we all said it
lol
the oldest foreign living thing
but honestly the language is vague at best
well I meant “currently living”
she might predate terrestial life, but who knows
But shes almost certainly been around longer than anything else you find
Rauh might be older
just want to hedge, because of things like the Crucible that may or may not be living
the Ancestor Spirits too
its why the meteroic ore arrow is intersting to me for that reason, its kind of rauh-coded
if the swords of light and dark are theirs too
or they built the divine towers, which have meteors embedded in the top
maybe yeah but it does magic damage of all things while the light/dark swords are holy based
it means Metyr is as old as the most ancient civilizations we have records of
I think the greatsword is just some relict of a deity otherwise lost to history
it doesn't even look like the other Forge treasures
enshrined there cuz the forge priests thought it was cool
i do think the old gods are indeed the big ol' skeletons because who else would be using arrows that big, though if one does date the divine towers and similar to that time period then they likely existed alongside regularly-sized humans
if runes can physically make a creature larger, then these beings would truly equate to gods
the Divine Towers might have actually been built by the Uhl/Proto-Nox
the divine tower architecture doesn't match up with that, iirc
someone actually found a re-used Uhl motif on the Sealing Tower
there's two different architectural styles in the Eternal Cities
the sealing tower pillar ain't the Divine Towers
yeah the suppresion pillar seems different
yeah but if you look at them on a map and line up the Land of Shadow with the gap in the center the Suppression Pillar is the Exact Center of them
yes? it also says that itself
it would definitely make sense for that culture to eventually become the nox though, what with making their own really big god skeleton
the suppression pillar matches up to the uhl and uld palace ruins, yeah, but the divine towers don't
yeah the Uhl seem to have worshipped a bunch of things
the divine towers look like they're the anchor points for the physical shroud over the lands of shadow
the one over the scadutree
the Ancestral Followers look like they've been living unchanged since the beginning but they might actually be a neo-primitivist movement
I think they're hornsent remnants
Maybe but i don’t think so
or at least split from the same proto-culture
I think they’re Uhl/Uld Dynasty remnants
they've got the same mention of buds, horns, revered anscestor spirits, life and sacrifice
I think the hornsent held cultural hegemony over a lot of people but weren’t an empire like the Golden Order is
but they are lacking some of the other bits
i do think this is supported in game text, with the ancestral follower ashes describing them as "horned folk who eschew letters and metalworking"
so they're at least aware enough of that sort of thing to shun it
Like the followers don’t have actual horns and practice an Intelligence based magic system with a heavy emphasis on what is basically animal necromancy
indeed their horns are not real, they're described as worn as well
The ancestor spirits might be a type of divine beast but i think that’s the extent of their connection
