#Elden Ring (DLC hype room)

at least upgrade his store for it
I think Millicent's ending is a very powerful bittersweet if you side with her too, though i'd be hardpressed to call it happy
let him sell his armor
you get his squat
that's the only point of it
patches just gives you like four emotes
bittersweet is better than "dies in ditch" most of them end up like
Like, there's just straight up no reason why Ansbach disappears if you burn down the sealing tree. It doesn't make any sense.
for his assorted quest progression
For all we know Millicent is going to show up out of another part of the swamp as a baby, that stuff's magic
I guess technically Roderika does too? Though it's also bittersweet.
this makes it worth it
you're right, and that's because he doesn't
He literally did though. I burned down the sealing tree and he disappeared.
Cause she finds purpose and belonging, and ends up staying with Hewg to the very end
Like, 1:1
Patches' Squat is the ultimate 'well, the host I was helping died stupidly' emote
If you can tell me where he is I'd be happy to take back my point
He's near the final boss arena
his summon should be there until you've progressed toward the final boss
Can I complete his questline?
He shows up for the civil war
I'm at the ||Fight against Leda + her allies|| and I was like: "shit, I guess I should go help Ansbach" but he's already gone.
bruuuuuuuuh
"i'm going to ignore this quest until after a trigger that checks for if you've done these quests"
"where's the quest that i ignored?"
I had no idea the quests were coming up you doofs
i do think burning the thing is def on your end
It's just some random trigger that happens.
it's not random at all
this isn't a "fromsoft is random and cryptic" issue, it's a "please just go do npc quests"
it's like, the whole culmination of the dlc
topple I dunno if you're being obtuse but you have to realize that's not an easy thing to understand, right?
eh i don't agree i actully think its the reverse
i think 3 is the cyrptic nonsense and the rest are mostly sane
3 was definitely rough for that
Like, on some level, sure, it's my fault, but if Ansbach is not in the fight at all it's not really weird to think "Huh, where's ansbach?"
okay i suppose it's 3
he is literally there
fucking got, the Ringed City had some cryptic shit
No? He's not.
Ansbach isn't there if you didn't do his quest
and he fights with you
No he isn't dawg.
he's replaced with Sanguine Noble Nataan
I have some weird dude named Nataan
huh
I will say Burning the Tree is a pretty big flag
But why would it lock out Ansbach? There's no sense to it.
yeah burning the tree and seeing ||Enir Ilim|| is kind of like, your big flag to get your shit in order notably
because it progresses literally the entire plot of the dlc
because while you're doing things Miquella is actively also doing things I guess
it progresses all of the NPCs
do you think that he's just like, ignoring the fact that ||Enir Ilim is unsealed and the followers of Miquella are going up to try to find him?||
if it didn't, you couldn't get the ||showdown||
literally everyone goes up there
I'm sorry I got swept up in actively exploring the game and having fun searching for bosses that I forgot to do my due diligence scouring the fextralife forum to find out what the lockout point was.
because ||they all want to get to Miquella for one reason or another||
I'm pretty sure a few NPCs mentioned trying to get into ||Enir Elim|| too
it's the same lockout point as the main game
there are several notes
there's a note after the Dancing Lion that mentions it
that specifically tell you that they want to go up there
I do think it's silly ||they just teleport you right in there||
why even have the Lion Door
it is a bit goofy
I hated that
felt super Video Gamey
why is the lion an optional boss?
no one should miss out on the line reading in that cinematic
I'm sorry I'm not gonna recant my opinion that that's a bullshit lockout point.
what's the point of that gate, and the stairs up to it?
okay
but yeah the tree burning thing imo is a pretty obvious flag for things changing
👍
I didn't like the teleport to Farum Azula in the main game either
yeah
it wasn't telegraphed at all
the Farum Azula teleport is also like
100%
a very weird moment
I do think they were also like 'how the fuck do you get to Farum Azula'
a little Waygate wasn't quite enough pomp, idk
yeah, I don't have a solution for it
If this was any other game they'd just straight up be like: "Hey, this is a lockout point, do your shit." and I think even in the main game they tell you that with the burning of the main tree.
it just bothered me
I DO have a solution to ||teleporting to Enir-Elim though:|| Door
Wait til you get to the dragons on the mountain.
wider arena, please
i didn't fight it until way later
maybe leda killed him
and i didn't have any real problems with it thanks to that
i just mean in terms of camera
||that is actually a part of his quest lol||
likes to jam itself into corners and walls and whatall
i have a theory for the hippo
i think it was not made with a boss in mind
and then they turned it into a boss and it compeltely broke it
Watch as I run the fuck past them
I, uh, know
because the normal enemy ones are completely fine and reaonsable
I dunno! I guess I'll never know! Because Fromsoft decided Ansbach saying ||What could they possibly have in mind for Lord Mohg's remains? The implications are rather… unnerving.|| was my sign to bring him a random info item.
Senny is NOT worth it
correct
Crazy that you can't target the dragons legs because they specifically want you to use this OP sword against it.
He doesn't have legs
did you actually find the scroll btw?
Uh-huh.
Only dragon worth fighting in there is Bayle and ganging up on that one Drake to get Igon's quest going
aight
Everything else is instant pass
i thought you needed to fight all o them
i liked watching 'em duke it out tbh, not a lot of Kaiju fights
you do not
the best way to figh the ancient dragon is to use raddahn's bow
Like I have it, I even read it, and I was like: "Hm... funny flavor text. maybe if my int is higher I'd be able to read it" and just left it at that.
That is so wildly on you I'm sorry
okay yeah this is just
there is so much room in the arena you can just run around using rain
literally the most on you a quest could possibly be
There's a researching old man pondering questions roughly a football field away
Lmfao okay my man
you don't even have to -show- it to him
it prompts if you talk again
so you just never spoke again
Ye
"here's ansbach, the big scholar dude in big scholar zone looking for big scholar answers on what could be going on"
I thought he'd show up at another site of grace.
"here's a big scholar scroll that goes HMMM IF ONLY SOMEONE SMART COULD READ THIS"
Before that, he literally teleports every single time you progress his quest.
So I thought I didn't progress his quest enough.
"time to go to our someone smart buddy that's soulfully longing for a book to read"
and show him the book
There are 600 info items in elden ring that that could apply to tho.
not key items
this one's literally from the same room
info items are info
you could throw it at him
key items are keys
that do important plot things
like, there's no shame in looking up guides because you just want to follow steps on quests
Again though, I just figured I'd be able to progress the questline at another point
personally when ||Ansbach mentioned that Miquella, who is explicitly seeking godhood, yoinked Mohgs body, and i found the scroll that mentioned godhood and needing a body to act as a vessel, i figured it had something to do with Mohg being used as a vessel for whatever lord Miquella was gunning for||
I mean I did too, for sure. I read it and was like: "Oh, that's what they're using it for, interesting" and then I left it at that.
||coincidentally this is when i went 'OH, NOOOO' in terms of plot||
i've done that before myself, like when i was looking for logan in seath's archives or when i was trying to figure out how to not bad-end the priest girl in ds3
Logan's quest is fucked
that's also when i had that moment lmao
it's not too bad i think, just like
me and my friend were talking and we both had it
kind of out of the way
'||What a weird few bosses to need for the DLC, I understand Mohg, but-||'
since it necessitates looping back to seath's first arena
it's obtuse but not inscrutable
since he mentions looking for seath
You can take all this moments out of context and be like: "Duh, of course ansbach would want to read it!" but there's literally a dozen other items he would want to read.
I have to imagine a lot of people just didn't find the Pyromancer in DS3
I spent half the DLC wondering why them
i just failed to make the connection
and then halfway through...
and then a Fire Knight knocked me off a rafter
god, both of them are in annoying places
I found the pyromancer but not the sorcerer
you've got old dude stuck in a cell on the ceiling that just
doesn't indicate at all
I only found him because I was putzing around in PVP
and then lady in the dungeon that needs some annoying shit too
I think Metyr questline is actually good because he's so straightforward with it and hands you a map and is like: "Find this, come back"
Like every questline should be like that one.
literally just look up guides then
Ymir is so polite and helpful in terms of Fromsoft NPCs
I do! Just in this one particular case I didn't realize the sealing tree was a lockout mechanic
also didn't realize the ||Leech Men|| have eyes, and six of 'em
that quest is pretty nice with imo the exception of ||the statue|| which is not a problem i guess now cause there are a million messages signaling it
i hate those things if they were a more regular enemy id porbally hate them more
Like, nothing I've read online indicated the sealing tree as a lockout point on his page.
Why are you so Londor Coded, Ansbach
i think they actually just assume that you would do the quests before burning the sealing tree that leads to ||Miquella|| with ||Messmers kindling||
||: Some steps of this quest are missable and you may be locked out of its progression if you progress further into the story. You will need to complete Sir Ansbach's objectives and exhaust all his dialogues before you fight Needle Knight Leda at Enir-Ilim.||
Maybe? I really figure someone ought to mention that tho.
i suppose so
i will say
i genuinely did not even consider progressing that part until i had all my shit in order
You're a more experienced fromsofter than I it seems lol
i did have some annoyence with some quests breaking due to entering messmers room
which i do think is silly
I got lost as hell in that zone so ended up doing almost everything beforehand
killing messmer sure
i only played DS3 before Elden Ring
but entering his room no
Some break on entry? oofh
and there's not much indication it's even Boss Zone other than.. Is a Door
hornsent drops a summon inside the arena
the invasions ones and frejyas broke for me
so i couldnt invade or support hornsent or anash
makes enough sense in terms of like.. plotline
DS3 was also the only soulslike fromgame i played before Elden Ring and the DLC
but bleh
or give freja the letter
but thankfully for hornsent and anash it just skips
which is pretty significantly different insofar as the way you do "quests" is just, picking certain missions
Googling: "Lockout Point Shadow of the Erdtree" does not give you anything concrete either unless I'm just shit at looking.
im not sure what quests you can even fail in ds2
yeah just lucatiels
and maybe navlaan
but his has like 7 warnings
DS3 is more like
what quests can you complete
lol
me when i tried doing Anri's quest lol
ok yeah you can fail navlaan's quest line but if you do that its your fault
The various Magic Guys in DS2 were a little esoteric but that sort of comes with the territory
comes with the territory of being magic
My first experience with Fromsoft quest design was in Sekiro where you have to do like 13 distinct things in order to get the good ending and so usually I'm pretty good at following them.
It made me wish Necromancer Garris would chat with us
Yeah we have Guy who sits in the corner all day in a nice chair looking at a wall, the wheelchairman who wants you to go into the abyss, the greedy priest who invades you, frampt's reincarnation that was turned into stone for so long his country no longer exists.
i've not finished Sekiro yet
i've got to Demon of Hatred and i kinda just don't want to fight it lol
The final boss in sekiro is right up there with Milenia in terms of how hard he is.
you dont have to
wrong
Demon of Hatred is a little cursed
i'm only finishing Sekiro because i want my friend to read Kill Six Billion Demons
Oh lol, I thought you meant you don't have to finish sekiro.

i want to try as many bosses as i can so nobody can say i didn't play the game properly when i say it's like, a 6/10 game
I genuinely don't even get how you could hold this opinion if you like Soulslikes. What don't you like about it?
I like how clearly Someone's Cat Shalquoir is
i don't consider sekiro a soulslike personally like of builds kills it for me
i think its closer to a charcter action game
yeah I really rolled my eyes at the people calling AC6 a soulslike
Oh this is silly. It has bonfires and estus flasks.
like. no
Its a soulslike in every way except youre locked in to only playing one weapon
well, overall it didn't have a very strong start, i don't particularly love being forced to do one thing and one thing only with the parry thing and i especially don't like when it decides to not engage with parrying at all. It has a lot of bosses i didn't enjoy and also includes my least favourite boss in any from game i've played so far, which is Guardian Ape. Generally the game is pretty good, and when it gets going i really do like it but i feel like too much of the game so far has been kinda just ok
i think the only reason i even like the game at all was because my friends pushed me to actually go and defeat Genichiro and it was a pretty satisfying experience
Guardian ape sucks but there are a lot of bosses in other games that suck and ignore all the rules. Looking at you DS2
theres no builds, no equipment really and your items are more like castlevania items you can swap between
if it weren't for the fact that my friends kept goading me to play it i 100% would not have gotten past Genichiro
They are kinda like castlevania items :|a
in fact i would have called it quits like, right after Gyobu Masataka Oniwa
Guardian ape has an awesome design.
Guardian Ape is my least favourite from fight i have ever done only because it was mandatory
Best fight is the last one though, easily.
the second fight with it also sucks completely
if it was optional, Midir would still be my reigning champ
it is optional?
Midir is optional
Whether or not you like it sekiro is pretty obviously a soulslike.
the fact that you can skip Midir makes it less egregious to me than Guardian Ape because i hate Midir purely cause i fought him for clout instead of skipping him like i should have
anyways having experienced Sekiro, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6 and kinda gotten a spread of different games with different levels of customizability and garage gaming, Armored Core is peak and I need an AC game with as much Nonsense in it as Elden Ring's got
also yes if anyone calls Armored Core soulslike i will probably either sigh or bust out laughing
parry that Godzilla beam, raiden
Wish FromSoft hadn't tied drop rates to a particular stat ngl
yeah
I love wholesome pranks like this
droprate is even worse in every game for some insane reason
I dont see how armored core is a soulslike at all. Like… its nothing like a souls game
Arcane is better than Luck but in terms of ridiculous dangling stats in soulslikes
Luck is pretty hard to beat
i hate luck the most
godless stat
resistance was inoffensive
adp you didn't need much investment in for its use
but it did more than 1 thing
ADP at least isn't like
obtrusive
you know?
you just pay the ADP tax and move on
Luck stats in games fucking suck. I stand by that
luck only effects bleed and poison builds and item drop
nah you're right and you need to say it louder
Luck was AWFUL in DkS3
genuine what-the-fuck-are-you-cooking tier stat
i think luck is a fine stat as long its not one you put points into it
okay but that makes it dogshit actually
also why is the silver rune scrab at the end othe game
ds1 didnt have a luck stat you put points into but it had a bunch of luck boosts
as did ds2
oh you mean like
yeah
yeah that's fine
it being a STAT that you put LEVELS in is what's wrong
100 at base 210 at 10 soft humanity and another 200 from gold ring
even Bloodtinge is like
okay from why you gotta do people like this and drop a stat that is incomprehensible to a normal human being
ds2 is wait what
"Burning Bonfire Ascetic will increase item discovery on enemies in that area. The increase begins at +150 for bonfire intensity 2 and caps at +375 for bonfire intensity 8." this is the first ive heard of this
fucking what
anyways my feelings about Bloodtinge are that Bloodborne is a ridiculous, deliberately obscure game and Bloodtinge is emblematic of it
i have no idea if it's true and i've also never heard that before
im looking aroudn now
What do you reccomend i use if not fextra?
nothing, fromsoft games have two dogshit wikis and nothing else
ds1 has its wikidot
Cool. Very helpful.
which is good and not owned by either subhuman shitbag company
but there are zero better options for other games
The best way to learn more about DkS2 is to watch Limit Breakers videos, unironically
it's not fun to report either
there is a fextralife wiki
which is dogshit
and a fandom wiki
which is dogshit
I love how every community has that one source that theyre like: “oh my god, NEVER use that source” and then when you ask for other sources theyre like: “you just gotta look yourself dude”
and, more importantly, both of those companies also suck
thinking about the DLC and difficult fights reminds me i still need to do the Old King Ending for ACFA
i'm not fucking telling you "you gotta look yourself"
i do think ds2 might have one of the goofiest quest in the series
i'm saying that there isn't anything
Like deadass, there is not a resource, we are all coping and seething together
Go watch Limit Breakers or something
So what options should I use tho? If not fextra. What do you use?
I mean realistically you cross reference both wikis if a piece of information is sus or obscure and if they report differently you go “well shit”
And either ask someone who knows or look it up externally
I respect that i suppose.
Like
Topple isn’t saying “don’t use X wiki” just because the companies are bad
There’s also just wrong info in there
No one can do anything about it
Yeah but again, especially for a game like souls… at least its info
I fw that.
Truly, this is how Fromsoft games are to be experienced: two conflicting sources that are dubious at best.
Fun fact: if you make unsubstantiated claims about what happens in ascetic levels 2+ in any given region of Dark Souls 2, people will just nod their heads
And if you use mods to fabricate video evidence it’ll get added to wikis
Source: I ran into bad info that was fabricated this way during my SotFS playthrough
did you know on Ascension 2+, Old Iron King will actually speak to you during his boss fight, telling you how much he misses and loves Sir Alonne?
im going to take a guess you wanted the spells from
challncor
Chancellor Wellager
I forgot to mention you have to wear the Ring of Whispers for this
I think it was a torch lighting situation in the Gutter
ahh
This was definitely worth the farming effort
Much nicer than the base Horned Warrior armor, the white toga makes it much easier to match with other stuff and it's a nicer color anyhow
Do wish it had the yellow version's large shoulder plate though
Oh well
big fan of yuuge pauldrons, yeah
Now to find some pants and gloves that match
Side note, Dane's Hat is fucking awesome
Goes good with just about anything
it's a good hat
It's not Milady's fault they gave it the coolest moveset
My brain refuses to read milady how it’s actually pronounced for some reason
it's Malady to my brain for some reason
It’s mil-ady for me
Always use wikidot when possible for Souls
It's the best wiki for them
M'lady
2 and 3 also have wikidot
oh, are they more than bare-bones now?
because when i checked ds2's wikidot a couple years back, it was kind of a shell
but that'd be incredible to see
/hear
Bloodborne also has its own wiki
https://www.bloodborne-wiki.com/?m=1
Bloodborne Small Dedicated Community Wiki
Kind of? They have most of the info you need without having to interact with the other two but there’s some missing stuff on the ds2 one iirc
ah, unfort
...holy shit, Azula Beastman Ashes are GOOD
Could use some extra tankiness but goddamn are they ever vicious
Moveset's pretty decent yeah
Ayyyyyyyyyyyyy
when I was doing a coop run with friends we got invaded by a guy with an extraordinarily transphobic name I will not be repeating and I remember going "dude we cannot afford to lose this one, this guy in specific needs to go down"
they played like CHEEKS
did you get them
yeah we got 'em
we did point down and teabag
Excellent
but not until after I hard swapped from my haha funtimes coop build to the sweatiest, most tryhard-ass kit I had access to
Gaius down. Dang that guy was relentless
WOOHOO
But not as relentless as dat black flame baybee
Nice
And that's another ending obtained
Now for the Age of Undeath and the Age of Frenzied Flame
i've done every ending except Age of Dung and the default you-did-no-sidequests-loser ending
|| I DID IT, I KILLED RADHAN||
had the opposite experience once twice a couple times in ds2
|| i got the lowest i did on a prior run but because i was more aggro the moment i hit that tiny remaining health i proc'd a bleed and he died||
person had a really
dogwhistle name in the pvp zones
unfortunately
was better at pvp than me
😔
Greyroll is something you do asap in the run 😛
Because it's such a biiiiig lump of runes
Aye
i usally wait until after geting the rune scarab
I almost never bother with the rune scarab
just in general really
game gives you plenty
that said I do frequently skip straight to greyoll and gain a cool 15 levels off the bat to get my build started
I will grab a couple of golden fowl foots because there's several very early in the run that are super easy to get
and then use one of htose for g reyroll and one for the suicidal night cav also in caelid
and that's a healthy 150k+ post buffs to get started
Oh, i dont b other grinding, that's booring
and i'm always way too strong for the early game XD
they are so spread out that its easy to single them out
The milita are nice if i really need a quick 1k or so though
i often buy a lot of the little knicknacks form merchants so
well i did on last run cause i wasnt sure what i wanted to do
i do think my next run will probally be a magic only run
idk if i will lock it to inctations or sorcries or just do either
i will say igon is so good it almost makes me want to do a bow run
maybe in a modded version of er
|| Not using the summons genuinely a big play, what i did was bring out taylew and just had that man face tank radhan while maintaining both our health with heal from afar||
|| I think i did ansbach proud by finishing him with a bleed||
I wish i could've finished it with Hilde at my side instead but she crumples too fast
Help yall I'm encountering so much biphobia in the ER fandom online
People don't like that I and friends shipped Malenia with a amab OC
Cursed ngl
I may try this
i keep trying help folk by joining em in coop but i keep getting bayle and the host keeps dying
everytime i do shout 'curse you bayle' though
All I’ll say about ER quest lines
Question: is it possible to kill Leda? ||Before her boss fight I mean||
Is that I did all of them except for ||black syrup and Leda v Ansbach|| without looking up anything except for one singular time
So it’s not impossible
There’s just a degree of like….. okay, the shadow keep is obviously big and important, so I just
Didn’t go there
Until it was literally the last possible thing I could do
Because progress in exploration has always always always progressed NPC questlines
It’s not great but if you play a lot of souls games you get a feel for where the game wants you to go
And you should go there only on threat of death lmao
That is
8 summons in a row that have been to bayle, why do i keep getting summoned there....?
Anyway idk, I don’t think that these NPCs are any worse than like, every game other than base game ER
And I don’t love how ER’s quests basically felt like you couldn’t fuck them up
Like…. It’s because she’s linked to an important game mechanic, but the fact that roderika’s questline can kinda just finish itself takes away a lot of what I like about souls NPCs
Also getting different quest rewards for different quest lines is a classic fromsoft thing
yeah, i seem to get Bayle a lot too
idk why

DLC spoilers heavy but good lord
There’s some revelations here
…okay she just flat out disappears if you try
god you know something i wish elden ring had
i dont care if its a spell or weapon art, i just wanna grab someone by the face and just cast fire right onto it
frenzied flame s o r t a has a move like that but its more well
frenzied
inescapable frenzy is definitely that, yeah
I want something more eh... unsure what the word i looking for is
not refined, just less "mad"
Ah well, flame skewer follow up gives me the closest ill ever have
Er to clarify i just mean like
Ugh theres probably something i can reference iunno what, just a quick one handed grab of sorts
I feel like there's two types of Elden RIng lore/analysis video:
- By looking into the code, we can show the full model of the sprite. Here's some stuff which is already in the game, but you might not have been able to see it. It's unclear what exactly this means, so I'm going to just list some similar other things if any exist. I'm not going to try to draw any grand inferrences from this.
- This tiny detail completely blows open the entire plot of the game and changes everything you thought you knew! We can link this with 5 other pieces of canonical evidence, 4 unproven theories, and a piece of cut content to create a full picture which is nothing like what you thought before!
Truly buckwild they looked at the game and said ||More Fallingstar Beast||
I loved him I smiled so large
all the repeated worldbosses in the dlc felt like old friends
like "eyyyyy Magma Wyrm! you sly dog, what are YOU doing here!"
I'm super surprised how many people take "put criminals into jars to make saints" as a ritual to make magical beings versus just a ritual form of 'purifying' punihsment
I took it as the latter, but people really like the Marika = Homunculus stuff huh
The ||surprise Revenant|| Tibia Mariner managed to scare the shit out of me
same
|| the tree sentinel jumpscare was funny as fuck||
Lmao yeah
"JESUS FUCKIN CHRI-wait what the fuck are YOU doing here you fucking goober??"
Is there something I'm missing with the ||Flower NPC after the Putrid Knight?|| Or is it just a weird lil fromsoft NPC?
||That's St Trina!||
I hope you’re thirsty
||enough to die. Several times||
||also, go talk to Thiollier||
Death ahead, but try Death
||Side note, how the fuck did that twink get down there at all||
||It's a TREACHEROUS way down, there's bloodfiends and death rite birds and a whole lotta nasty shit in the way, and he said it himself, thick as two planks and weak as a kitten||
fromsoft npcs are just goated with it as soon as you're not looking
i was thinking about that earlier today - i killed one guy in fort haight, how the fuck did kenneth clear out everybody there + parley with the demihumans
I assume they also just sneak more often than not/minimize fights
Because the crucible is described as the blending of life, and saints are considered above the regular class. It’d be really weird to do that to the shamans if it was a form of punishment, since there’s absolutely no evidence of them having actually done anything
its textual criminals were mixed in with the Shaman, but I can't remember exact where off the top of my head
the ritual is definitely supposed to invoke the crucible, and might've been used in the society (Enir-Illm definitely has a lot of body-trees and body-stonework)
I think both reads are equally supported by evidence
but the idea of a 'saint' as a specific type of being they were trying to make, over 'throw the naughty ones in the jar to make them useful'
its a reach, imo
Saint is a very specific word
wish I knew someone who had a stronger grasp on japanese to see what they do with it
The shamans are also told it’s absolutely an honor
To be in the jar
Which I think would be a weird detail
If it was a punishment
the hornsent ghosts act like it is
theres one in Belerut(?) who mentions that he'll change his behavior - "anything but the jar!"
"I'll be a living saint [instead]"
I also read it more as the shamans as a subjegated class - they were afforded life for the jars alone (because they aren't good for anything else)
but Marika definitely could've been revered by the Hornsent before she betrayed(?) them
the crusade seems to have started much, much later than her ascension and early wars for the Erdtree
The placed where jars made and the people are out in them are also explicitly jails. I think there's room for the Hornsent both to see the jars as something holy and as a punishment
yeah also a good point
They want to make the jars, being put in a jar is terrible and no one volunteers, so they make the jars in to an execution effectively
or the curseblades doing ceremonial bloodletting while trying to become tutelary deities, or Enir-Illm having a 'cleansing chamber' right before the divine gate
theres a religious culture of purification
taking the condemned and 'recycling' them into the jar-innards fits that vibe to me
sidenote:
exploring Belurat (near where you get the ||secret Twinblade||), I noticed all this dust(?) at the foot of the tower
Yeah I definitely think it’s probably a both thing
which obviously looks really similar to the cleansing chamber room
Yeah that’s probably the same - yeah
the ash items you get from the dieties
Revered Spirit Ash?
"was said to quietly accumulate in the palms of [the ancestor gods] hands."
I wonder if the tower isn't just a huge spiritual lure operating on the same principles
(if it does use bodies as one of its main materials)
instead of specific pure ancestors attracting little bits of ash,
a tower of the dead causing a massive pile at the base
since you find some ash in the storehouse it might just pool wherever theres a lot of concentrated 'life-energy'
not really surprising, but neat if thats what its supposed to be implying
Kenneth Haight is not fuckin' around with that Erdsteel Dagger. Guy has infinite faith in his nobility so it does yes damage
Anyone up to jolly cooperation against Malenia?
the real power behind the stormveil throne
Honestly, KH's aibltiy ot make friends iwth the demihuamns seems to have been preestalbsiehd
if he took the field and rallied them + thge loss of the solider's leadership at that fort
(and demi humans are scary to anything that's not the fucking tarnished, esp at night)
oh damn ur right I actually re read his dialogue
I thought it was run by like. not insane stormveil ppl before
and the mohg fan guy just took over for a bit, w the demihumans being the same general problem they are in half of south limgrave
(at least as far as the godrick gang is concerned)
but no bro already had the alliance in the back apparently lol
Notably, it looks like he's already befirended them and had them at his fort
and then the troops swept in and killed the queen
and he left to fidn help
professional diplomat
Pretty much!
The demi-humans get a shit treatment and it's ironically.. weridly cool that for all Heigh is a bit of a jerk, he's a veryo pen minded jerk
Which is probably why he actually gets a good ending
man i wish i can like
reset just the dlc, i wanna get that priestess ashes damnit
yeah hes just an arrogant dipshit not a bad person
it reminds me of why i appreciate remnant 2's angle of 'reset this specific zone'
it's not that time consuming to speedrun DLC entrance I think, in ng+
dungeon tp to caelid for Radahn, mohg via varre quest and ur there in under an hour ime
Bleegh
I cannot tell how i want to take my character's build further
becausei 'm really enjoying throwing giants flame stuff at things
but the need for Mind is killer.
Those.. really dont solve the problem (one fahsion, also, my talisman slots are crushed as it is.
Like i know what i rpobalby need to do, it's just making the stuff click togther
it's frustrating and i'm complaining about it as is my right
The main issue is i'm just being pulled in too many directions
and i need to pick a lane because of the way damage buff stacking etc works
Our Exalted Mistress!
god, thorn sorceries suck
I thought they were going well if setup right?
No, those are what I was thinking of
they're just so slow and the damage is so bad 😭
watching bushy try to squeeze out every bit of damage
rennala phase 1 💀
with all this
like yeah you ca ndo it 3 times pretty quickly
but then you're stuck for like 3 seconds if you do the 3rd one
I mean his build seems terrible for squeezing damage out of them?
he's struggling to kill bosses to actually get the stuff lmao
And you doing magic damage to the magic damage resistant boss
bleed is nice but man
The long ranged one isn't so bad tbh, but it's also not for boss killing
Yeah, dunno, this feels like complaining multi hit spells are weak
Like this is the worst possible environment, and his build isn't even good
Of course it's going to struggle this early on?
He's missing a huge chunk of modifiers for damage
skipped ahead and it feels better but still, idk
Multi hit spells feel like planting a tree they start so shaky and then endgame its comedy damage, haven't tried thorns as much
just feels weird to me i guess
(Elden Ring's multiplicative scaling means that like Millicent's by itself is good, winged is also good, and then you stack everything Ave the results are insane)
Ancient Death Rancor is so fun to chase as a spellsword
Have a Carian Phalanx up
'Dodge all this and my r2'
In brairs case there's an entire armor set that buffs them as well
Magic scorpion ofc, and the sorcerery talismans
And the guilty staff + alburniac staff
I missed magic scorpion on this char v-v seluvis you useless pervert
It gets very very silly
I mean it's never going to be Super Fully Buffed Ranni's Moons :p
6% per piece except legs is funny
that's kinda my issue, the numbers just go so high
makes everything else just feel terrible to use to me
need to find a guy to rewire my brain
Just go run that 100k oneshot build or somethin
didn't that get fixed
Idk, just use the sword then
If you don’t want to use anything else
Seems p simple to me
I've never said i don't wnat to use anything else
But also, doing bad damage is also fine
Just think of it as a challenge run
Lynn’s super hard extra cool no Ranni run lol
The enemies will be more insulted that you beat them with unpopular magicks
ghostflame ignition?
why is the AoW so fuckin good, like, lordt
It is really funny that the DMG never got nerfed despite probably being the best ash in the game
half the fp cost + hit with the weapon
nawh even just the flame itself
does insane, insane damage over time
and instant frost buildup
kind of rude to Death's Poker they introduced a global version
don't you curse me with the club moveset
Agreed, that is a bonking stick
it is a rake
give it the hollowslayer moveset
Well you're hardly gonna hit anyone with the actual rake bit
horrible chafing noises as it spins in your hand
I thought about powerstancing that and Helphens but literally the like.. they're too different looking
Tbh I wish Death's Poker was less fuckugly
see i like fuckugly business
well you did find it on a bird
the implements of death itself
i mean yeah?
poke the body with the fork and slap it in a hole you just dug with the shovel
these aren't complaints
cover the hole and use rakes to make it nice and flat
i'm all for this
I fucking WISH we'd gotten a shovel
||now i'm thinking of an alternate midra fight where you pull out the greatsword and get to ues it against him like it's yhorm||
I mean, Death’s Poker is very obviously and intentionally a fire poker, lmao
It’s in the name and the design
😔 should've been a unique hammer
stock images are weird lately
That they are
took me too long to find some normal-looking garden tools lmao
do we know who created Gravebirds, anyhow
No but they’re golems
So they may be yet another product of the mysterious Golem-Maker
Who were you, cool golem making person/peoples
I love your work
also is your Scriptsmithing related to the Giant Smithing or are they just adjacent, and there's so many competing types of fire
Most fucked up part is we got the smith golems and that should’ve been the end of it but no~
Because the smithing golems are themselves golems created by the golem-maker
Questionably sapient golems
Definitely maybe sapient smithing golems
Fuck those watchdogs
The moveset is a fun gimmick the first couple times but horgh
Re-runs of some of the Graves are felt for sure
Crack theory: it's Hewg.
Fuck me why is the ledge to get to Placidusax so tiny
ive noticed a lot of the bosses ive disliked just punish you for even thinking of playing melee
Lmao I'm farming the helmet of an armor set and the enemy dropped literally every piece EXCEPT the helmet
Man y know dlc are t usually eligible but this needs to win soundtrack of the year
The bells in the final track of the game go fucking insane
Cant believe they got my ass again with the story trailer having ||the final boss theme||
Called Glory To Christ
Not a Faith build
Ironic
I not like lord of aoe boss
i don't evne know what you do against some of them just face tank it?
shield
Y'all got any reccs for good ranged spirit ashes?
latenna and dorothy
Want some support for Malenia that won't also heal her up to full when she comboes them
Dorothy?
Redmane Knight Ogha
I was not aware of this wrinkle:
May use a rain of gravitational arrows in response to a war cry, but only once.
what a weird bonus function to staple to a spirit ash
I'm fond of the Greatshield Soldiers
That just seems like something he should be able to do as part of his moveset
Yeah but they'd just be free heals for Malenia
oof yeah
Besides, if I need a tank I have Taylew
for maleina specificly yeah
God I love Taylew
Built like a brick shithouse and he draws aggro like nothing else
The Mosh Pit lads were good against Relanna since her AI couldn't decide on one to focus down
Whom?
Greatshield Soldiers
not applicable for Malenia, though she is similarly hypermobile
Or lhutel
I remember how bad those archers in the evergaol fucked me up, I wonder if they'll fuck up bosses just as bad
She’s good for Malenia
Ogha's a she
wait is Ogha a she or did I get tricked
Huh.
No mention of pronoun or gender anywhere
In our hearts, she's a woman
...I might do ancestral follower ashes
If they're anything like the snipers in Siofra River they'll absolutely ruin her day
the stormhawk gives an attack boost
Every major bossfight should let you summon an NPC that doesn't tangibly do much to help you but stands on the sidelines screaming.
(Igon my beloved)
Nothing like having an NPC buddy in a boss fight to scream "ME AND THIS GUY I KINDA KNOW ARE GONNA FUCK YOU UP!!"
Same with Hornsent in Messmer's fight
...well Oghma did shitall
I wanna be clear, the less they do the better.
I'll try Latenna
Even when Oghma landed his shots they did like... 211 damage?
I think?
Shame
It's weird cause you'd figure a greatbow would be dealing a lot more damage than a measly 211
oghma is not as powerful as a ranged one
they have a lot of hp and can stunlock some stuff
Yeah at the root of it Ogha is a tank
He pulls with gravity arrows and then hes a greatshield user
i honestly thinkg maelina and summons is not a good combo most o the time
that or use a summon that has such low hp that it dies fast in a way you just want it to distract for a bit
Summons basically help malenia. You gotta do it solo
I am also a weird no-summon purist though so I only tried it twice.
i used the bird for the buff and it either doesnt get hit or it just dies
so it doesnt give much health to her
Tiche used to be super good against Malenia but she got nerfed a while ago
did she get nerfed at some point? they fixed a bug with her death rune thing vanishing on death or whatever
Absolutely not
I mean maybe but I recently fought her for the first time and I died easily a hundred times
tiche, not malenia
she did, yep
minor numerical adjustments
still very good
just less of it
she was also buffed
her blade attack was diffrent and looks a lot weaker and easier to dodge
Is Gavel of Haima any good?
It's certainly a lot of fun
I use Gavel of Haima in PvP and it's a joy
Cannon of Haima is a room wiper if you learn to free aim
Im fond of the cannon myself
it's super funny in the Haligtree Canopy
just knock a pile of enemies off a ledge
it has a massive AoE when charged and tons of knockback
I like using to to farm albinauric patrols in Mohg’s area
...eh, Gavel probably isn't useful for me, given I'm a spellsword build
it's the kind of thing that's only useful up close anyway, I'd think of it as a mixup
it's probably more useful in pvp than boss fights though
it smashes players flat to the ground
whereas bosses will just hyperarmor right through it
It will knock Malenia on her ass though
...how the fuck do you avoid Waterfowl
there are two methods and they're both extremely specific and arcane
look em up on youtube
speedruns or tutorials or something
alternatively: fucking pray
Worst part of the fight
Every other attack is fair, if punishing
That move is just "teehee ur dead"
it's the worst thing in a fromsoft game, yeah
it's avoidable but only in the most fucking frustrating ways
||Oh no, Promised Consort's laser spam is||
Waterfowl dance’s main problem is that avoiding it is a bit counterintuitive and difficult to really practice
If you can get it down, though, it really changes the fight
For Waterfowl if you're already a distance away, just book it directly away from her for the first two bursts and dodge through her for the third burst (she gets too much accel on that one to outrun, but she's locked in and can easily overshoot you). Simple and effective.
And if you're not far away?
the best way to handle water fowl is to do the frost pot thing
If you're up close it's a little trickier - the most consistent method is running a circle around her while she telegraphs to confuse her targeting before rolling off to a side when she starts moving, then acting as above
Yeah, but after the first pot it doesn't really work
Cause she'll get more resistance to frost
Set up some Frost beforehand so that you can pull a frost pot when needed
i've honestly never had much luck with the frost pot thing myself
but I've beaten Malenia with a variety of builds now (including bow-only, where there's really no trick except to git gud) and got a lot of practice dodging her bullshit
any summon that consistently avoids attacks tends to do pretty well for Malenia
yosh?
Demihuman swordmaster
DLC ashes
Tiny, nimble, hard to hit, deals weirdly high damage for his size
Honestly if it wasn't for Waterfowl this fight would be a lot better
...shit not even Waterfowl itself, just how hard it is to dodge and how much damage it deals
if it was either waterfowl or the three ways she cheats, I'd disdain her less
Waterfowl does definitely warp the nature of the fight
Those three ways being?
She's still one of my favorite fights in the basegame
but again, i'm the deranged person who comes at bosses with a tree branch and some twine
lifesteal gimmick (interesting, understandable), ignores lethal damage when over 1 hp, animation cancels out of being flinched (and out of post-stagger flinch)
She animation cancels from flinching?
And wdym ignores lethal damage when over 1 HP?
where you get that metallic clink sound
exactly what it sounds like - if she's not at 1 and you deal lethal damage to either phase, she goes to 1 instead
That was actually added in a patch as a countermeasure against a glitch, iirc
idk if there's a threshold of damage that ignores this, but I don't think there is
...that's kinda silly
there used to be a glitch that if you finished her first phase with a critical her phase 2 healthbar wouldn't regain health and so phase 2 would die instantly
I guess that's understandable, but the 1 HP thing feels like a shoddy patch
Honestly, waterfowl is the only part of Malenia’s fight I don’t like
Everything else is pretty fun
I like waterfowl a lot more after I figured it out
it's definitely a weird one though lol
the spacing on both dodge patterns is so fucking finicky, though
at the same time, it's such an iconic move that I feel like the fight would lose some of its energy without it
though yeah the spacing could be less finicky
Yeah, it's one of those things where it's like
"This sucks, but it's also cool so I kinda don't wanna see it go"
i just respect nothing about her or her fight as a consequence
of most of what she's got going on
attacks that force jumping are fucking hilarious though
other than godrick's slam and a few others none of them look jumpable
but yeah thats how you dodge them
that's fair
they could have different visual cues
to signal jumpability
or uh
the sekiro thing
for unblockables
i'm fine with them as they are, but giving a cue for "this particlefuckery attack can be dodged with a white boy hop"
would probably increase a good chunk of people's enjoyment
surge realised it was stupid and just never did it again
yeah surge had a jump dodge and a duck dodge
there was a few attacks that required them
in the 2nd game thers nothing that does
ahh
but if you pullthem off you do get a good counter attack
im also really tired of the dlc having aoes that are so silly that are either undodgable entirely
or you need to start running away from them before they even do it
if you don't start runinng from midras before he even starts it your not gonna dodge it
huh?
the phase transition one?
i found the timing pretty generous on spacing, and you can roll through it too
huh, i never had him do it other than during phase transition
ive seen him do it earlyer than half and later than half
oh yeah ER phase 2s are like
usually 60-70%, depending on the boss
think midra's up there in "gets second phase unlock at 65"
even then he did it really early for me once
but enemies will have actions cued before their transition attacks
and really late another time
like 75% health and the 2nd was at like 10%
Does fighting Messmer fuck up the Ansbach/Freyja quest?
yes
i have no idea what to use for a 2nd tear in the final dlc boss
i have the opal hard tear
no
I find it's hard to go wrong with the stamina regen tear
Surely fighting as a summon won't fuck anything up
i can promise it doesn't
the thing that fucks up ansbach/freyja is giving him the scroll before you talk to freyja
Especially since it stacks with the turtle talismans
yeah that one's annoying
messmer just forces a specific resolution of leda & hornsent
Haven't even found Freyja yet
i.e. instead of ganking or protecting him, you fight messmer with him
but that doesn't impede any of the ansbach stuff
Freya offers the least of every quest iirc so at least there's that
for what it's worth with Freyja's quest, all you're missing out on is dialogue ||and a fight|| really. It's not like some of the others where you miss out on gear
You do miss out on a shield
honestly I should have intentionally failed Freyja's quest on bow-only. It would have made my life easier
I wanted the fight tbh
||all you lose is her lore dialogue and her presence in Those United In Purpose||
It appears after beating the final boss apparently
oh
It's also all.. very specific aesthetic
i think that's just the weapon and armor
not the shield
i only got the rest of the gear
not the shield
i got it twice :)
dang
i just now noticed that backhand blade is a dual weapon
yes
that whole class is, yeah
I ought to use backhand blades more, they're real cool
Especially the curseblade cirque
It's absolute mall ninja shit but it looks so cool
