#Elden Ring (DLC hype room)
1 messages · Page 34 of 1
Oh god that fucking thing
4% drop chance from one guy
hellfarm
o7 good on you i shall never touch it
You also have to kill the miniboss he's standing right next to
looks dope tho
it's the best shield in the game for the final dlc boss
Unless you wanna play dodge the tree every time you try to kill him
||if you level it up to max and drop a holy infusion on it you can literally tank any move the boss throws out||
which is kinda funny
Greatshielding goes against all my instincts
i mostly used it for the ||big fucking aoe explosions||
but also ||can't rep the haligtree with the new lore, sorry Mike, you biffed it||
since i didn't have a better solution
||i feel like "you biffed it" is a bit of an understatement honestly||
||that's part of the joke like calling 'em Mike||
Final Boss spoilers: ||wanted to see how well a full tank build would do against Radahn, turns out it can get to the second phase really easily. I probably could've done a lot better if I didn't have only one ironjar aromatic on me||
the Haligtree Crest Greatshield really is a certified fucking fromsoft moment
||This was also without endure||
god i even hate the color scheme for the arena lmao
drops only from one specific enemy in one specific place
does not drop from any other version of this specific enemy even if they look identical
4% drop rate
exists in the most random fucking spot ever
thank you fromsoft
Defensive stats with endure, golden vow, protection of the erdtree, and ironjar aromatic:
I'm sure the ||Golem Fists|| could be pretty cool but.. not with that farm
yeah lol
swap to 99 arcane until you get it
i farmed it with like
I have 53 and I don't even want to
at most 18 arcane
popped on the ||new arcane talisman|| and the soreseal with the mimic mask and just went to work
Flame Knight gear I might have to smack some folks around for though
I got the shortsword twice
@raw coral This is the pic
And none of the other weapons v-v
if it wasn't obvious i really liked it
keep getting GLOVES, DROWNIN IN GLOVES
i kept getting hats
Technically this could be higher with the pearldrake talisman, the dragoncrest greatshield talisman, and more scadutree blessings but it’d probably only be by like 2-4% or something
Which is admittedly a lot given the damage numbers we’re dealing with but still
did they change the drop rate for the unaltered banished knight chest piece?
cause I got it on my very first kill
without even trying to get it
certified Thiollier moment
bro got made into a hollow knight character
still kinda annoyed that i ||graced Queelign and didn't get his weapon||
||shoulda killed his ass and graced Jolan instead||
||She showed mercy to the Berries and Cream-ass haircut man instead of the bad goth bitch, for shame||
||to be fair to me, i did the entire dlc completely blind and i didn't find out about being able to do that with Jolan until after, when i already got the ash from Queelign||
||and by that point i did not want another completely useless item so i killed Jolan for the weapon which might actually be useful||
||or well, i killed her to see what the other reward was||
me and my friend were playing together and i drew the short straw unfortunately
so far for fire knight, 9 hats, 1 chest, 2 gauntlets, 4 boots, 1 greatsword and no shortsword...
Anyone know a good talisman to use with a dex/fth leda's sword build?
no has XD
i was thinking of doing a dual swords thing with her and a cold milady im not sure but i think her ash of war resets cold
it does
Spoilers: Secret area (Abyssal Woods) ||https://fixupx.com/_Rashuu_/status/1809207515680559375||
ok taking a break from boss to +20 my fragments, suffering is not noble
smart
Good luck finding the last scadutree fragment!!!
im at plus 16 rn so ive got a whiles to go
i need a game to tell me where ive been because i just forget shit i never went to the scaduview cross for instance cuz i just got distracted from that spiritspring
why does this weapon have such a fucking low drop rate
which'un
fire knights shortsword
it bowls you
dropping 3.1k damage with a single knights lightning spear is so fucking nice
tried it with ||flowerstone gavel and priestess heart, hitting a cool 4.1k damage||
Flowerstone has me tempted for a lightning build tbh seems neat
And they keep buffing mace/flail speed
I’m convinced that the reason people don’t use flails is that their moveset is visually pathetic
weak moveset, time for greatsword
I got fond of flails as just 'oh my god, strike damage that doesn't need strength'
Night Rider's Flail + Sacred Blade is the Stonedigger Crystalian Skeleton Deleter
Wimpy moveset, nothing special statwise, borderline fist range
Watching Jerma do most of his playthrough with Astels flail was agony
Amusing agony, but
impossible commitment to the bit
That was pre bastard's stars buff too right?
Pre and post considering uh
He using them in the dlc
||and you already told moore to go heavy roll off a short pier so this is still that hard?||
He's what
also I made the foolish error of ||finishing Freyja's quest|| so it's harder than it could have been
at least ||Moore|| isn't here
Tell me your also summoning 😭
Someone give the poor man a wing of astel
I am summoning, they just die
also apparently ||you get a sanguine noble if Ansbach is dead||
lol
Admittedly, he's been swapping around, with that as part of his stable
it's probably possible but no doubt miserable
Geth VI looking ass
that drink at half health would be a shot in the heart for sure
LMAO
thinking i might keep a fire knights shortsword in my back pocket with the fire knights flame spear AoW equipped
Thank god
Hit him with Scarlet Rot pots or something
taste of his own medicine
Consumables! They're your friends!
yeah consumables are good
I didn't swear them off, but relying on them too much would be against the spirit of bow-only!
Alternatively
got flame skewer on my greatsword
both skills hit for about as much damage but flame skewer is quicker and does more stagger i feel
Switch to an actual different weapon, summon your mimic tear, then switch back to bow.
Now that seems like cheating
That's even more against the spirit!
man, at least mimic tear wouldn't run out of arrows
I've avoided mimic tear this far though
THE SPIRIT ISN'T YOU
She's only using spirits with bows
okay so part of my rules for bow-only is spirit summoning is allowed but- yeah that
still so fucking mad i didn't get ||Queeligns weapon||
||his summon sucks ass too 😔||
yeah
also apparently i didn't get ||Messmers spear either cause i grabbed his incant||
I mean you can clone that one
why -are- they at finger ruins >:|a
"Huh what's this thing!" tackled by Fingercreeper
i already used all of my cloning things
interestingly the presence of one near the cathedral ||hints at the finger ruins beneath it||
unless there is ||more than one in SOTE||
there are ||three||
There's more!
There are ||3||
do any of them clone boss remembrances
yes
the uh, ||demigod ones i mean, the special ones||
They all do
||Each Finger Ruin has one and then there's also one at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr||
Huh, I Just realized, the reason fingercreepers are infesting caria manor is because Ranni's two fingers are utterly pissed at her
Why did it take me til the dlc to realize fingercreepers are connected to the two fingers
fwiw the difference is whether there's a bell or not
Oh no, mad fingies
Do you know what's a bit I did
what that means, I couldn't tell you
bells are more connected to god, Marika just likes them
||huh, ok well i need to find them then i guess||
In the top eastern Ruins when there's that ||big pack of fingercreepers all running around, I was streaming to a friend. So I put on the Jurassic Park theme and did "They DO move in herds..."||
||i'll go see if i can find the Manus Celes one||
I'm still shocked there is
Like
What They Wear Rings For
I assume they were some fucked up thing conjured up by the Carians to protect the castle
Some life yet remains in this legacy of an ancient act of blasphemy, as evidenced by the barely perceptible warmth it still exudes.```
yeah I assumed they were tied to Rykard
They straightup look like his hands, it's weird
because of the blasphemy thing and all the rings yeah
though I don't think the ||dlc ones have the rings||
so there could be something to that
They do
Real talk the fingercreeper/two finger connection allllmost feels like a post-facto thing
Who's making these fashions for you, creepers
💥
ogh, friend had to stop playing for a few days literally at the fog gates before bayle and messmer
Unrelatedly! Sharpshooter Amulet is less than good for bosses unfortunately, but it does make dungeon-clearing easier.
Okay I’ll bite
Anything you can cheese from a distance takes fewer shots that way
I think the Lampreys are the ones who make rings for the Fingercreepers
which conserves arrows through a dungeon
Like aside from being Fingies they really aren't similar in behavior or design or role or anything
And the one piece of base game lore we have on them seems to directly contradict (boss lore) ||them coming from Metyr, a god-child on the same tier as the Elden Beast||
ok this is a cool fucking weapon
would match up with the gravity spells
Seeing as they have the weird urple magic attack
thank fuck i got such a stupid carryweight
Considering they’re lampreys, I’ll also posit something else
Hate the ourple 😭
i can have ||Messmers spear|| FKGS, Haligtree Crest Greatshield and my seal equipped at once
I think the lampreys are ||mutualists that attach themselves to shooting stars to hitch a ride||
I'm glad the DLC didn't seem to have ||Wormfaces||, would like to learn what they are, but.. the noises, oh, the noises
||The greater will had the Elden Beast vaccinated before its flight||
||Simparica Trio or something||
Take your FUCKING travel meds you big stupid creature
It would explain why they’re lampreys and not any other specific animal
going to grab a few more levels so i can have this absurdly heavy setup and do mid roll
There's also the angle of 'they look like fingers' but
hmmm
wondering why i have 16 int on this str fai char
oooooh it's for ||Rellana's Twin Blades||
that makes sense
well i'm going to respec out of that
lotta stuff looks like fingers
It's weird how common it is and how many weird places it appears
least scuffed str fai setup
this is a certified endurance moment
don't even need a talisman, i'm just strong as hell
that is an absolutely ridiculous amount of equip load
well i am carrying vastly heavy things and my armor isn't exactly light either
How much endurance is that?
yeah fun fact I'm running 55 END on bow-only
59 :)
I'm regularly running 60
probably going to add another point to round it out
I'm barely wearing any armor, it's just for the stamina
i'm going to be sitting at like
I can midroll in 80 pounds of gear
What armor is that?
lvl 250 so my build can afford it
Solitude helm
looks like solitude helm + fire knight gear
That's about 30 more points into endurance than I usually get
less sure on gauntlets
I think Fire Knight for the rest?
||Solitude helmet and gauntlets, fire knights armor and greaves||
exile gauntlets?
ironically
ah no i'm wrong
getting the stat recs for ||Messmers spear|| actually helps me
because i need to max out dex
and that means faster cast speed
Goldflower Pyrza, Swordstress of the Twins
yeah bow-only is hilariously the highest I've taken it
so i don't need to use the ||stardust talisman and take 30% more damage||
by far
usually I'm 30 or under
But bows are such ridiculous stamina hogs that it's what you gotta do
Her passions are gardening (literally, that's why she's wearing the big gloves and sunhat) and 'gardening' (killing the enemies of the Haligtree
hooheehoohoohoo
my character, Flameseer Freyja is a heretical pyromancer who likes to dabble in all sorts of awful flame based things
Is this any better than the other cannon?
Literally making another fth build that's doing this, great minds
It does deal split magic damage tho
great enjoyer of fire and fire accessories
also has a great appreciation for specifically Knights Lightning Spear
damage kinda ass but cannons aren't really for dealing damage, they're for jump scaring the shit out of people during invasions
and the homing helps greatly in that regard
HOOHEEHOOHOOHOO
they do not track a little bit like Comet does
they will turn all the way the fuck around to kill you
load explosive greatbolts for Sidewinder type results
it has worse free-aim range than other cannons though
What the fuck
That is absolutely stupid
I love it
Which item was it in the DLC that talked about shamans ||being suitable for jars||
tooth whip
Just found it when you said that, hah
I was trying to remember where I saw that, cause I was trying to piece it together with what you find in the village.
now i have to find the last fragment 😭
Same
my flame build
And the set
Marathon Runner looking endurance
i'm going for more of a quality over quantity thing
what is that set
Fire Monk Hood, Drake Knight Armor & Gauntlets, Fire Knight Greaves
the Knights Lightning spear is there cause it's fucking obscenely good
i'm a heretic sorcerer, i can use a bit of lightning if i want
Could use the miniature dragon in your offhand
Would fit pretty good with the drake knight armor
My pyromancer is a bit more knightly than dragon-y
"THE FLAMES! I SEE IT AAAAAAAAAAAALL IN THE FLAMES!!! BURNING EYES, LASHING TONGUES, BLISTERING FLESH!!! I FEEEEEEEEL IT! I WILL SHOW THE WORLD THE FLAMES!"
Mine is definitely more of a manic zealot nutjob yeah
Yeah your character is a lot more outwardly unhinged than mine
I swear, (dlc final dungeon spoilers)||Leda|| might be my final boss
They're gonna do the ending I hate the most lmao
CHAOS TAKE US ALL
My character is insane enough to full send it on Frenzy flame just to find out what would happen, but also cares enough about the pyromantic arts to not do such a stupid thing as become a lord of frenzy
How can there be fire if there is nothing to burn, you know?
Magic
i menan ot like that's waht it wants innit
nothing left
not even Frenzito the crazy bastard
Not nothing! The one great!
||Radahn time. Fuck.||
No more stalling.
Okay I'm super consistent at getting him to phase two
Truly the only thing that mixes me up anymore phase 1 is ||if he doesn't instantly launch across the whole field||
That was the point i was making yes
At last a good ranged option? 👀
YOU ARE LIKE LITTLE BABY
vergil mode
with moonveil and starlined sword
NEVER
The 200 Ping Bulgarians Have Sullied This Weapon For All Eternity
who cares about pvp

be the storm that is approaching and provoking black clouds in isolation
reclaim your name and be blessed and born in flames
I could have more if i used a talisman ig
@obtuse halo (dlc item spoilers) I'm pulling a you lmao
Few people have asked me how you get through the levels on RL1 without getting one shotted all the time…
I give you the worst section in the game:
elden ring could remove dog and bird enemies and the game would be so much more enjoyable
what did miriel do
:(
but he is dog
kill blaidd
once he turns enemy, ye
apparently i can do ||shield poke with Messmer's spear||
incredible
got my fucking dastardly build going
i have my greatsword and seal for doing pyromancy shit
and when things get tough i pull out my greatsheild and great spear and get to it
What int weapons do folks like besides DMGS? I’m thinking something one handed that swings faster than the GS
I had a lot of fun with wing of astel on pure int, though that was several patches ago
I’ll give it a shot. I like using the weird stuff.
Honestly the Int/Cold AoWs are so good and usually end up using something regularlike
Astel is rad too though, Moonveil's classic, and ||has a new int katana|| to perhaps try with..
New Int Katana is fun
extremely devious with the two-phase type build
I'm curious about those ||Rancor|| weapons, ash of war versions of spells tend to be a little weirdly strong
I like the Lazuli Glintstone Sword a lot despite how simple it is
Wood 😌
I am once again begging fromsoft
give the carian knight sword the same feature as carian sorcery sword
I think it's fine
That's the point of having two weapons 😛
Also WOW 1.07 buffed the hell outta Helphen's Steeple
Helphen's Steeple is quite good
It's kind of in a weird spot because it's always going to be compared to MLGS but doesn't have the projectiles but it's still really good
I really like the Death Ritual Spear, though generally spears are best when using two
I wish the ritual spear had a slash moveset
Ritual Spear with the Sword Spear moveset would be absolutely sick
ok i think i know what i'm going to do for my potential seamless dlc run with my friends
i'm just going to go all in on Helphens Steeple
my favourite weapon in the entirety of DS3 is Onyx Blade so
it's going to hopefully be a time
Ugh, grumpy. Checking my vod of my chill optimiser Elden ring stream and there's a lot of background static from the mic & you can constantly hear me hitting the buttons on the controller ;.;
watching a random clip compilation of people ||fighting bayle for the first time and hearing Igon shout his hatred for Bayle||
and the first person in the comp literally is using Elden Stars 😭
a win is a win i guess
Gf is stubborn at using Land Squirts to kill bosses
if you told me land squirts were more powerful than elden stars i would believe you
||I can't say shit, she killed Messmer, Death Knight, Gravity Beastie, tree sentinel so far||
respect
Rats should be endlessly summonable
just finished watching through a playthrough of the Elden Ring DLC and have a few questions which I wish I could try out in practice and also a bunch of things I want to just... ask about.
I want to use them but just so obliterated
i remember i used to just, despawn my summon when it got close to dying and resummoned it
peak mimic moment when you pull it out making the enemy you are fighting think it's dead
then it pops back in at full health for round 2
Also lore from elsewhere to repeat, but I just want to start by asking: does anything happen if you fight ||Messmer|| using the ||Serpent Hunter Spear||? I feel like it should.
don't think so
It's a very specific ||spear||
yeah
Would've been so much cooler
It was already cool >:0 doesn't need a oneshot power
Wouldn't have to be
Now ||Mohg's Shackle on the final boss?|| that should work - Last Boss stuff
can confirm that nothing happens
yeah i actually think that should work
that one is actually valid
Even if it's not full effect just sorta make 'em HMRNGH for a moment
That did not occur to me as a thing but I agree actually.
it should have some effect
Also... it would have been probably very difficult but having the thing I described work during phase 2 only would have really made sense...
The number of rats should’ve scaled with the number of revered spirit ashes you’ve used tbh
Also, a lot of lore questions involving Empyreans because it's revealed almost casually that ||Hornsent Grandam (and I'm not sure if "Grandam" is a name, or a title like "grandmother") is an Empyrean. So what does that mean for everyone?||
huh????
Wait, huh?
||(Also it is apparently an archaic term for grandma)||
I was caught really off-guard by it too but I just randomly noticed it right there in the description and went "huh?"
yeah
||The two fingers just saw her and went “oh hell yeah, grandmas are great let’s make her an empyrean”||
It's so out-of-place, and nothing particularly draws attention to it, and I don't remember hearing anyone talking about it (although there hasn't been a ton of time for people to talk about it) but it sure is just... explicitly stated right there!
that sure is a thing
Yeah. It raises a lot of questions.
[Start of Shadow Keep]
||THAT STUPID FUCKING HIPPO IS A JUMPSCARE, JESUS||
It's a really unlikely place for one tbf
of all the things to be in front of a castle that's low on my list
||Maybe an outer god just really likes her scorpion stew||
||Despite it being awful||
||Can we use the out of time nature of Farum Azula to make the stew good again it sounded nice||
this is an important use of godly power
literally the only relevant thing i could find about this is this specific tumblr post that i had to trawl someones page for
honestly this sounds plausible to me but i have no way to verify anything said
If it’s truly a mistake it will probably be patched out
yeah probably
but like yeah that is either the most insane wacky lore in the DLC or some weird shenanigans
I hope it’s real and there just no explanation anywhere
Reminds me, in what way are the scorpion spiders spider-like?
honestly, no idea
to be upsetting
They seem to just be giant scorpions to me but I’m very unobservant
That ||hippo|| was SO much easy than lady blue balls
||Hippo's|| just kind of a filter for wandering shades and the like, i'd imagine
I was assuming the former of those two things, actually! And it would give ||some degree of "divine legitimacy" to the prior Hornsent regime|| so it wouldn't be totally out-of-pocket incomprehensible? At least one patch has already hit, so if anyone is able to check that item description ingame that'd be appreciated.
honestly ||maybe the fingers just stole their titles because they started making shit up on the fly||
Hades I... think you're able to obtain the item in question, unless I'm mixing up bosses? Can anyone else confirm?
you get the ||Watchful spirits spell|| from ||killing the Divine beast and talking to the Hornsent Grandam||
||with the Divine Beast hat||
you need to ||wear it's head though||
i didn't get it because uh
Which item?
||i killed the Divine beast as the literal last thing i did in the entire dlc before the final boss||
:)
||if you kill Messmer i think you become unable to do her dialogue||
Honestly, i had assumed that ||some people are just born empyreans and Marika’s kids are just the ones who had the information and resources to actually attempt divinity||
[Shadow Keep Beginning] I just beat the ||Golden Hippo|| and was talking about how I cooked him so much faster than ||Moon Sister 2, Electric Boogaloo||
||nah, once you beat messmer she gives you Scorpion Stew That Doesn't Taste Like Ass||
||i think that makes perfect sense, considering who their mom/dad is(Marika/Radagon), i assume that the children of god are probably just primed to be more likely to inherit whatever trait makes one eligible for being an Empyrean||
||HORNSENT GRANDAM, GIVE ME TASTY SCORPION SOUP, AND MESSMERS LIFE IS YOURS||
I’m explaining Elden Ring memes to my gf
Which bosses have you beat? Have any of them dropped a particular piece of armor?
How do I explain the Mohg/Miquella situation
I’m pretty sure what Hades is talking about is entirely unrelated to any specific item
(Sorry for the ping)
[Shadow Bosses] ||Dancing Lion, Renalla, Hippo, I think? There's been some minor ones||
Yeah, I was talking about the item whose description I was discussing earlier, which is tied to the first of those bosses you've listed.
Ayy
ah, I see
As in, she went in here to go ||“why is there a hippo here”|| which was unrelated to what was previously being talked about
oh, yeah. I never click any of the spoilers, esp without context
So I have NO idea what's being talked about 50% of the time
That's good. Hades: what have you done in relation to the ||Dancing Lion|| boss which you killed?
||Uh, walked past his arena, found the locked by shadow area, and traded his remembrance for... something? idr what off the top tho||
alright. You... might have missed out on something, depending on what else you did in the zone around him.
did you get the hat

||NPC who you can interact with, but if you didn't interact with them at all prior to fighting the boss, it might have broken it?||
||Afaik it only breaks if you kill the main boss of shadow keep||
||What's the NPC name?||
||Hornsent Grandam||
does the fire knight's greatsword benefit from changing affinity? was gonna slap lion's claw on it.
||I... that sounds familiar, but idk if I've talked?||
Okay. Well, uh. I want to tell you to do something related to said NPC, but also I don't want to spoil things too much?
I need to find her, apparently
Ah. Hopefully you haven't broken anything by not talking to her yet?
I'm not sure on all the exact details.
It's ||near one of the Sites of Grace||, I think ||the Private Altar one|| if I'm being very specific?
It is. ||Private altar site of grace, go up the stairs, door on the left and across the bridge where the two caster enemies are standing. There's a door to the storeroom she's in.||
no that locks out the quest immediately
yeah I was afraid of that.
you have to talk to her at least once before you kill the boss in that area, otherwise it's fully locked out and you can't talk to them for the rest of the playthrough. there's also a different thing that locks her quest out later, but more minor
thankfully, you don't get anything very major from it - ||infinite (while quest lasts but stops once it's over) minor consumable healing item, 3x furnace visage (crafting ingredient), and a mediocre pve incantation||
finishing the whole quest just gives you ||a single unique large healing consumable. nothing great||
Yeah but the last one of those has lore that is either a major sucker-punch revelation, or an error that should have gotten patched out, and I was hoping she'd be able to get the item and thus the information to check directly.
I think i could go grab it tomorrow on my original character
I only fought ||Rellana and Metyr|| on that one i'm pretty sure
Will be a pain to do since that char is still Scadu blessing 3 but i think i could manage it
And also my inability to find a freaking door

Tbf prolly not as much of a pain as ||fighting Rellana at Scadu 1 or Metyr at Scadu 3||
Level properly folks, it makes the game more fun
And sometimes, poke around an area you def didn't get everything from, find a minor boss, and toss 3 large glintstones at it
And win
I was being extremely lazy with my og character and it led to the cmosest boas win i have ever had
Literally a second or less between me winning and losing
(DLC boss spoilers)||Metyr was an absolute bitch to fight||
...I also can't wait for someone to do an up-close sprite examination of that boss because I desperately need one.
I got that win with the ||Hippo||
I died and my mimic tear, with 1 health said "NO"
"VICTORY SHALL BE OURS"
Senessax is a wildly unfun fight.
Be cool if I could stagger him but that seems to be completely forgotten by Fromsoft when making this DLC.
It takes a lot
Wanna know a fun fact about that fight?
I got a little annoyed and called it a night. He's the only field boss left before the final area.
Simply Skip Senny
As far as i can tell ||Senessax's lightning spreads like it does in water on land as well :)||
||Yeah the water's the justification but it's just wherever||
In fact
Do you really need that tenth Ancient Dragon Smithing?
Absolutely not but well, I've beaten every other boss in the game aside from the final.
||The ancient dragons who betrayed their lord to side with a tyrant were known for wielding branching red lightning.||
Stupid ||Bayle following heretic with bullshit branching lightning||
They've got more spider like legs than scorpions typically do
Scorpions have much shorter legs held closer to the body
Fucked up creatures
Remember how I said I wanted a sprite analysis of that particular boss? I found one, and it's simultaneously more and less complicated than I expected: ||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxy20EpQGB4||
One of the coolest in the dlc
Leyendell sewers
15 vig/547hp
mfw 🤡
lmao
there are lots of things in the Shadow of the Erdtree which are white, black, red, or golden. There are many important things which are at least one of those colors. There's probably something to be said here about alchemy, and I like attaching alchemical metaphors to things, but it seems like drawing any kind of clean line is going to be very difficult and require some extremely subjective interpretation.
I finally hit 50 vig tonight
And I gotta say, going from 20 for my entrance into Leyndell Capital Proper to 50
I'm lvl 250 on my dlc char so
It's a BIG jump
I have a lot of levels
It really feels like Vig to 40 is a prereq to... everything? late game
And vig to 50 is almost needed for the DLC
I really need to hop back and fiddle with my Dex/Arcane archer
Twas a silly build
40 vig is where you wanna be at minimum usually
50 feels like the minimum for the DLC, with 55-60 being comfortable.
Yeah, I kinda want to get up to 65 or 70 int before I get up to 55-60 vig
And maybe 30 dex?
idk
gfdi [Castle Ensis Item] ||I missed the dang sorc sword tonight. I have to go BACKWARDS and JUMP BACK INTO the castle to find it? wtf fromsoft? I have disadvantage on my perception checks in this game already :(||
I mean ||she attacks you||
Found the ||Nope Woods||.
Like, I get that there are some funny hidden items. But, frickin... going back into the area I just fought like hell to get out of
But in a DIFFERENT part of the castle?
pain
||The Tarnished Battle Royale is actually my favorite Fromsoft moment tbh||
||Like in any Souls game||
Anyways, exciting news that I can just turn around and snag the thing
.... [Ensis Castle Item Question] ||How does the Sorcery Sword work? Am I understanding that it has no heavy, but instead casts your current spell if you r2?||
I've yet to [Abyssal Woods] ||run into one of the damned things||, but the worst, most nerve-biting part of this so far is seeing ||random bits of runes come in as something behind me just died||.
||I think so yeah||
||I’m not sure if the sword is any good for casting but I think they just buffed that aspect of it||
||It's an ok catalyst (like, best for 41 int exactly) but I mainly want to try fiddling with it cause it looks fun||
||unfortunately my int char has 70 int so using anything but Carian regal would be a nerf||
😔
yeah, that's a bummer. I'm at 63, so same, but it still seems likely that I'll enjoy it

Sounds like an interesting weapon to try with a lower level build with a 40/40 split between int and something else, maybe dex
||What if instead of a sword catalyst you just use carian slicer 🤔 ||
Could you spoiler this, please?
Spellswapping moment
||…I meant that as a joke but with the fp regen talisman that might actually work||
I kinda want to try that now
That does actually work, especially with the ||FP Regen|| and the Blue Assassin's Charm (obvs I had something for triggering crits (I think it was a crystal sword, not sure). I was also using some of the other carian sword sorceries, so it wasn't all slicer. But that carried me through a lot of the mid game in the base game
I love the Carian sorceries, such a cool route for the homing soulmass and whatnot. And NPCs seem reaaaal bad at dodging Piercer
Though I do miss my most horrible friend
NPCs hate this one weird trick: [Casts Glintstone Sword 3 times, Carian Piercer 1 time, then Zamor Icestorm]
( Affinity from DS1, like Carian Phalanx but cursed. Dark Magic was unbalanced as hell )
I was more of a Chaos Bed Vestiges kinda gal
Affinity had absurd tracking iirc
tracking damage shieldbreak
Chaos bed vestiges save me, save me chaos bed vestiges
Forbidden Sun was just about the same spell yeah
Out of curiosity, is there a stated balance reason why Incantations get access to (at least) 3(?) damage types and 3(?) conditions while Sorceries get 2 (with Standard being fairly rare) damage types and 1 condition?
Closest i got in ER is Flame of the Fell God but it's so fucking slow
"We have affinity at home"
The affinity at home:
I don't know if.. Fromsoft has ever stated why they balance things like they do
Or is this more just a tradition thing
Fuck the homing nuke, let me fucking throw it instead
Sorceries have better raw damage but incantations are more versatile I think?
I see. Interesting.
Sad, but understandable
I think sorceries technically get access to fire damage but it requires a bit of faith investment
Flame of the fell god misses more than half the time anyway cause the enemy moved half a centimeter away from it
They didn't like Pyromancy having a railgun i guess
scorcs: better raw damage
incantations: rot lmao
thing was goddamn hilarious in pvp
lingering fireball and forbidden sun
dance, foole
Tried it against Malenia and blackflame ritual high-key did a better job than it
oh! I totally forgot about my two (2) lava spells!
Blackflame Ritual is solid tbh
Yeah but like
wish it lasted more than a second
Static ring vs. Homing projectile
While fighting what i can only describe as the dex boss
'homing' like a damn blimp
Static ring somehow hitting more consistently
i wonder how she feels about Fire Serpent
Still funny to me that the ||Lightning/fire combo spells are fucking arcane locked||
||arcane stays winning||
||CURSE YOU, BAYLE!||
Also ||Bayles heart not being able to be cloned sucks fromsoft fix this||
Still mad
Another ||Bayle|| just grows out of a leg stump
Anyways, I just started scrolling the Sorcs list
apparently, there's a TON of base game spells I have missed
And apparently there's a quest line to the lady behind the pumpkin head for early sorcs
dangit
Oh yeah Sellen's a whole thing
accessible
I forget to revisit NPCs after I talk to the first time
the little icons have helped so much with that i am the maximum forgetting
I'm not sure what triggers her quest tbh
And sorc books are so rare
And then you can just bring them to the World's Most Memorable NPC Miriel
pretty sure there's just the 3 in the base game
truly the most Faith-laden game From has had, feels like
which makes sense i guess
but there could be another heap of wizards somewhere c'mon
why's the only necromancer a weird little guy in a cave we beat to death
Ds2 was great about this tbh
( if incredibly esoteric )
I (personally) think that the base game feels like the wizards... kinda intentionally committed a Techpriest? Like, they chose to seal themselves away from the "real world" to just do magic
So it has widely stagnated and the few "wizard" places are rotting because they been locked in for so long
(to be clear) I LOVE this vibe and it kinda made up my mind on my first (and current) character: Grave, Child of the Stars, Breaker of Seals, Tarnished
It's part of why I think my character doesn't feel bad about jumping Mommy Moon, despite everything that has happened to her
Oh hey my new controller arrives tomorrow, finally I can get more attempts in at the final boss 😌
Then probably give up and start up a new playthrough or something, I dunno
(Abyssal Woods) ||Aging Untouchable||: (Fucks up its grab after sneaking up on me while I wasn't looking at the screen)
Me:
made it out of ||The Fog|| area too while sprinting full chicken-with-its-head-cut-off
after like diving into more of it i don't think i can bring myself to get the frenzied flame ending lol
But it's so positive and wholesome
Burning a maiden? How would a lord, crowned so, be looked upon? :[
shabriri came to know of a being of pure chaos and horror and became so enamoured with it that he led an entire people to imprisonment, persecution, and madness so that in their suffering he could bring his god into the world
kale's people got abandoned by the greater will through his doing and manipulations and the result is something that would destroy everything horribly
i just can't do it
shabriri is a bitchass motherfucker and I'm killing him on sight forever
The Frenzied Flame is a generally interesting idea to me, but like many "madness" or "chaos"-based philosophies, I find its desire to erase individuality at odds with actually being "free"
It's def not the direction that my current character is going to resolve the story
I mean part of it is that touching or even learning about these things actually makes you insane
Shabriri might have just been some dude before reading some fingerprints
It is caustic knowledge
I'm not saying it's a good path of a good dude just there's actual magic reasons and suchlike
I love my lil' merchant man
Oh, sure
It's just... "everyone will be one" and "I want to be truly free" seem like two diametrically opposed goals
To be fair, right, "freedom" in this context has a lot to do with "freedom from the established order"
Ah, I see
The Golden Order has trapped the Lands Between for generations, and the Frenzied Flame is certainly one kind of out
Fair enough
Ah yes
Even with Shabriri. He slandered them, but that the Order would imprison a whole people based on hearsay
the freedom of "We reduced everythign back to a single mass"
Liek that's lteirally what hte frenzied flame wants to do, melt the world back into uniforomity
"What if we undo the big bang"
Shabiri: "Sounds cool, i'm in"
I'm (without looking it up) hoping to find an ending that "fixes" the world (notably, deals with the Death Root and maybe helps out my boys the jars) but I'm not hopeful it actually exists
It's.. rough going, ending wise
I should probably google where the rest of these roots are
Turns out it's hard to run the rules of reality
It intergrates Death back int othe golden order properly
But what means ?
Oh, thank you
I'm fairly certain I specified without looking it up
Ogh hell
No worries, friend
DLC final boss spoilers and stuff: ||https://old.reddit.com/r/EldenRingLoreTalk/comments/1dw8bq1/miquella_isnt_just_cursed_with_eternal_childhood/||
But a fun take on things
It's something l ike too and have commented on a few times
||Miquella got the same thing as that one mad scientist from Jimmy Neutron||
that unlocked a memory
hmmm, I'd like to do a [Post Ensis Item] ||Dryleaf Arts|| run but I don't wanna respec my DLC character. I might bother someone about helping me move them to a new character
(When I'm next free)
@left willow I need to teach you how to cheat engine things in, lol, it's much simpler than moving stuff around
hiss
Genuinely valid!
I do it for setting characters up for silly runs etc
because it is just, well, simpler and faster
Fair enough
but it is also a thing of needing self control and like, beign repsectful with it?
(As in, dont be cheatrign in stuff to then ruin people's days online)
and I don't have self control XD
Kinda curious there, honestly, liek what oyu imagine the issue would be? but also kinda a private topic so
A lot of my enjoyment of Elden Ring is the fiddling around with it and messing with the systems and finding the stuff. Just cheating in stuff would be easier and faster, but would also sap that enjoyment. And like, once I've done it once... my brain knows I could do it again and it just kills a game for me.
Yeah, all the sorcerers in Elden Ring are very very weird
they're basically a lovecraft cult, just kinda subtle about it
I'm kinda strange in that knowing i can break the game using out of game tools isnt an issue for me - and soemtiems can be a boon, if the game has friction points that's annoying me.
Knowing ic an break the game using in game stuff annoys the piss out of me, and will ruin a game for me. esp when it';s not hard to do.
Like i feel i;ve eaten my fill of BG3 because it's so not hard to break the game there
Fair enough
Is Founding Stars any good at all?
It seems so cool, but it also seems like exactly the kind of spell that seems cool and actually sucks.
I've tried landing it on a few things and it seems pretty meh, so I'm wondering if I should keep trying lol
founding rain of stars was very strong in pvp and got nerfed in pvp
no idea about pve
...I just wanna say I love the morality discussions this DLC has brought about, and how it has caused some dramatic changes of opinions, but also, I suspect, the seed of a lot of Discourse.
Such as?
the morality of ||Miquella||, mostly, since he ||did some pretty objectively awful things, but for the sake of some genuinely altruistic goals, and it's unclear whether what he was doing could have worked, or how well||.
tree sentinel question: does his jump shield have a shield hitbox and does it land a few frames after hooves?
or did i just mistime my dodge?
there's a shield hitbox on it, but i believe that was just a mistimed dodge against the earthquake hitbox
ah
ok didn't realize the earthquake has a hitbox, thought it's just a visual effect, previously i've only gotten hit by hooves or shields
i believe it has a hitbox?
kinda makes sense, his ground slam with axe also does damage in an aoe now that i think about it
it's either the ground, the rocks, or both
that has one
but i think it's the former
hpb?
You can actually jump a bunch of his stuff
oh word? been meaning to try it
What does HPB mean?
heavenly potemkin buster, from guilty gear series
... what does that mean?
it's an anti-air super move that grabs the victim and does a high altitude kinniku buster (wrestling move)
I lost the round, the match, and the set for this.
oh, i don't know if any similar move would exist in Elden Ring, as a newcomer to the soulsbourne genre, as well as a fighting game fan, it's just an joke to talk about knee jerk reactions to seeing airbourne opponent flying at me
Oh! I understand now, I apologize
kind of on me for making cross media references
Theoretically, you could jumping attack with a Hammer or Great Hammer to punish that particular attack
you can jump attack with a lot more than just hammers
basic mechanic question: do higher defense reduce amount of stamina cost to block?
so defense is for damage taken per hit?
the higher stability, the less stamina consumed when guarding
Sure, but that would be the highest degree of punishment, I think
absorptions are damage reductions, yep
Stability is called "Guard Boost" in Elden Ring, I think
ah
No worries, wanted to make sure that the right words were used for the new person
yeah, just forget which terms ER has switched and which it hasn't sometimes
appreciate it
Circled Number in this case
notably, a shield's guard boost is increased with upgrade levels
but only slightly
it's about 1 per tier for non-sombers, i think
might be higher for greatshields or sombers, but i mostly roll with the brass shield (or now the messmer soldier shield god damn)
always prioritize your weapons
but if (and eventually, when) you've got extra rocks, you should make sure to upgrade your shields too
I really should upgrade my shield on my main character XD
I've got plenty of mats
you should do
spoilers for base game ||yes you can get heavenly potemkin bustered in elden ring||
||The player can, but I don't think the player gets access to any version (beyond just... jump attack punishment)?||
NUJUUUU
i was this close
pride came before the fall (was proud at like the 70% mark where i was no-hit)
oooh, maybe try and sneak in some jumping heavies next time, nice shield use
took me a while to get that shields were like,,good again after coming from ds3
Oh dang, he really dumpstered your hp with that shield slam
Also, that shield use is TOP tier, dang
i would have flasked since you have 3 but im a scaredy cat and agression does pay off
that was a pretty solid fight, nice
just got a bit hasty at the end with the roll
Oh, something that @stone cove taught me: If you use the slots that you activate via hold (top button) -> numpad input, the lag time to use any consumables other than the one you're currently looking at drops a lot. I really recommend at least trying it out. It's v useful in my experience
lets you have a utility thing (status pots, greases, physick) and both of your flasks "on deck" at all times
(I'm a filthy Rot Potter, so the ability to chuck those fuckers any time I want is super nice)
i primarily use torrent on up, my physik on down, blue gatorade on left, and buff/summon on right
depending on the character
usually it's just a buff like bloodboil or crab
i'd try something like that, that is - at least the blue flask on one button and physick on another - and see if that works out
Ah, Torrent up, blue left, red right, lantern down for me
i usually keep red gatorade on my standard item button
yeah i don't use anything else in those slots
Gotcha
unless i'm going full pot goober or some other item build
and lantern goes in one of the two unassigned quick slots
since it's not something you usually need to toggle in combat
I CHRONICALLY cannot find my lantern
Ah, I have, uh, writing finger
And something else in the other QS
the other quick slot for me is usually rune arcs
can't remember what i swapped it to most recently
but it's normally my rune arcs
I really should find some more arcs
Cause they are fairly useful into like, boss fights and stuff
But monkey brain goes "he ho" and doesn't wanna use them for bosses I don't know are an issue
Cause they aren't super plentiful
I never know if any given boss is gonna be [Shadow Keep Spoilers Ahead] ||a Rellana or a Hippo.|| One of those I got so stuck on that I needed other people to get through, the other I died to when ||I didn't recognize I walked into a boss arena|| and then I turned around and CURBSTOMPED ||his porcupiney ass||
Yup
By 10 (ish)% on each
that's pretty cool
I think it's like 11% decrease in fire and 9% increase in lightning taken
(and dealt, obviously)
There's also the golden light or something that increases runes gained
(When the golden leaves are drifting down)
And rolling in it extends the effect after you leave
Liekwise, if you roll in poison/rot etc
you'll have hte effect stick to you and keep going up
this is what hte soap craftable is for.
Though if you have so-
Yeah
Congrats!
237 mins, according to steam recordings
now that i beat him (thx for the jump heavy tips), i gotta ask: i tried to parry him early on but kept taking damage in health as well as stamina, is that normal for fighting him or was i just not timing the parry right?
not timing right, almost definitely
Let me check if he's parryable
He is, so it was just a timing fail
gotcha
(I find parrying to be so frickin hard in this game)
izen parries tree sentinel (wrong timing), gets health deducted: wow this parry sucks. veers into 2H polearm for a good hour and change, goes "i wonder if blocking yields more reward" and never looked back from SnS
"this is just like MH lance counter, with on demand attack, even"
lol
Better parries make it a lot easier
The basic Medium shield has a parry window of like...2 frames?
It's bad
There are Ashes you can get later on that go on any shield with a parry window of 6 plus ancillary benefits
Even with [late base game ash of war] ||golden parry||, I'm so bad at it
also tangential to the weather question, but time of day also does matter for some things (i hope thats vague enough to not be too revealing)
Golden Parry and Carian Retilation are the "Best" parries
Buckler Parry is right behind that
do peirce weapons do more on shield counter since it hits during recovery frames usually does that count as a "counterhit"
@obtuse anchor something to be aware is that a failed parry makes a distinctive "Donk" noise, and counts as some sort of a block? Which means small shields tend to be pretty punative to miss parries on
because they have very bad guard boost
ah
@modest berry It entirely dpends on "Does the attack doing thrusting damage land during the enemy animation"
The advantage is the buckler can be gotten very early
and it's light as hell
and until you get Carian Retilation/Golden Parry it is the best parry
Golden Parry is hidden in a mid game area, Carian retilation requires taking down an early mid-game boss
and going through a small legacy dungeon
"The Parry skill has 11 start-up frames, 9 active frames, and 31 recovery frames (at 60 FPS), making it slightly worse than small shields, but better than any other weapon archetype."
For parrying dagger
Buckler Parry has 4 start-up frames and 5 parry frames at 30 FPS. Double the values for data at 60 FPS.
This is a good in depth b reakdown
Basically, the TLDR: Golden and Carian are equel, the differences are
Golden always costs fp, but has dramatic range on it.
Carian costs 8 fp, but only if it parries ranged attacks. also it parries ranged attacks and deletes them, turning them into glintstone daggers for you.
i'm a dark souls fogey
so i never use carian retaliation or golden parry
all buckler all the time
but they're mathematically better
I should try Carian on the Dueling Shield
They thought of that. YOu cannot
But it's the Carian Dueling Shield and Carian Retaliation XD
i use carian retaliation on the buckler lol
whiel being able to safely thrust poke
deflecting hardtear or something
probably a bit too good
(i'm aware its not the same)
Boo, cowards 😛
im also not nearly good enough w parrying to actually use it consistently
i think i pulled it out for like one of the dlc ||mausoleum dudes|| (||rakshasha katana dipshit||) because that fight sucked otherwise, and then for crucible knights
that's it
I'm still trying to find an AoW I like for Carian Dueling Shield. Cragblade is okay but I'm more int than physical stats so cragblade's +15% physical damage is not quite as good as it could be.
i've been trying and liking giant hunt
Giant Hunt, and the new fire knight ones are great
i assume flame skewer will be similarly good on the base thrusting shield
Flame SKewer and FIre lance, that was it
Since this is pre-DLC I don't have flame skewer and fire lance (Transfered the shield from another character) but Giant Hunt should be plenty gettable.
i'm around rn iki, do u want me to drop u a copy from my char to mess around with?
its flame skewer & flame spear actually. very similar names
You can get Repeating Thrust and BLood Tax on it too
w/ skewer being the upward thrusting one & spear being the forward lunge
Sure, gimme half a moment!
lemme rip them off n dupe them from some lost ashes of war, easier than reloading a save
so u got a minute
just throw a duelist sign, still pswd liminal at elleh?
I've got 16 vigor
anyway did you manage to grab them, i saw them both vanish
ah
it said 947 damage so
with the sore seal
that would for sure do it
This character is level 39 XD
anyway i have no clue if those ashes of war even go on the shield but like. this is a ng+ dude with like 19 lost ashes of war, now 17. go figure
use them wisely padawan
wtf are those stats
night shard too? lol
rot pool cheese on niall to finish millicent/gowry stuff for that?
Those are 'Use the Dueling Shield but also wearing the sore seal
oh huh it has higher str than i thought
17 min str, 13 min Dex, 15 min int but I want to throw spells
Yep. One day I will beat him legit but not today.
yeah im not a fan of that fight period lol i think i just do it every time unless i can blitz him
I'm raising vigor now. I want to get to 30 before I mess about with other stats.
But I was meeting weapon and armour prereqs
I can medium roll in armour that gives 51+ poise
reasonable
you end up using the BK armor after all?
Yep!
big fan of its design
BK armor is pretty swell looking
I actually ltierally startyed vagabond even though it wasnt techincally the "optimal "start for what i'm doing
just because the drip is too good
and its' a really good tank set avaible very early
the only set that's better is Beast Knight and that requires murdering a useful npc and locking out tow other cool armor sets
so
i like black knife set w raptors's black feathers instead
Old RPG character of mine, Sephia (On right). Gravity Mage Knight. Doing her with Thrusting Shield and Gravity magic.
i think the cloak is wayyy cooler
Black Knife is really good, yeah
gravity magic
look inside
night shard
Shame it's so late in the game, the chest piece is incredibly useful
u can get crepus vial relatively early via rya
Stars are a type of gravity! More seriously: just there because I didn't have better plans.
It's cheap and pokey
nah yeah its a good spell
Yeah, but the chest piece is better and just always on ontop of bieng like ,great drip
fair enough
My 'actually in DLC' character who's using Dryleaf right now.
Oh, that's one of my favourite headpieces too
