one thing I actually quite like about Elden Ring is that there sort of isn't a master manipulator guiding everything, ||there's several people who try but none of them are actually succeeding in getting what they want, either due to self-sabotage or simply not knowing as much as they think they do||

Keeping a cool head and not panicking is really the biggest skill. Getting panicked often knocks off your roll timing

Speaking of the serpent hunter, I think Rykard's fight is the best 'giant' fight in elden ring and all the souls games because of it

Because you've got a weapon which shoots giant wind lasers and you're physically incapable of getting near Rykard, you don't suffer the usual giant problem of being so close you can only see their feet/base, so you can actually read his moves

I'm reminded of this partially because of how mediocre the furnace golem fights are
