They’re clearly delineated, if not immediately clear on “size”
I’m picking up the “zones” pretty clearly, and can differentiate them from terrain
personally, i draw them with thinner stroke borders but with kind of an inner halo/glow effect. that way the areas are delineated but there is still transparency
That's the smallest I could get the borders with the software unless it does decimals
THere u go, text is more tedious but I don't need to draw all the hex's personally so hopefully it makes the process faster
Posting my maps, idk why. Just felt like it
Damn I see the print error in the second map
Too bad i can't do anything about it for a while
Nice maps!
Hell yeah
Right one looks fun, left one looks a tad large but still looks pretty fuckin good
I hope you continue to feel like posting maps in the future. These are great. 😄
tried to experiment with an approach inspired by Siege's way of identifying cover and zones in Shadow of the wolf
at first tried to go for the hex-perfect lines but that was too much time for how much I had available so I changed track and tried something inspired by Siege's
Oooooh that's a really cool way to mark objects. Makes it look like a mech's HUD is marking them on cams.
What did you use to draw the map and markers?
The map proper was something I made in Inkarnate a way back
The markers were added in Clip Studio paint
For cover I just used the rectangle select to, outlined the selection with a bright cyan then erased and left only the corner
The numbers were done using text to in some font then rasterized and I used the erase tool to erase a bunch of very thin straight lines to give the textured feel
Zones were done a similar way to the rectangle where I used the selection pen to paint a zone then used outline selection with an appropriate color at only 1px width.
Then I shrank selection by 20px, repeated outline, and shrank again by 15px and used outline selection again to create the ripple effect
When near the canvas I erased the lines on the edge that bothered me and used a thin pixel brush to complete the lines
Numbers on crates were also handpainted

I'll have to try that out on the maps I've been plugging away on in Inkarnate
been mostly running isometric maps made in Foundry for the game I GM but have been trying to improve with my 2d maps for when I eventually move away from iso if I need to
Neato, yeah I got to try that too
Does anyone by chance know of any assets I could use to make a space station in the Map Creation Tool?
having fun with environmental storytelling (Lancing Dawn Spoilers)

HEY
If you got map ideas you want to throw at CzePeku tell me if you aren't already in the server/subbed yourself
Like, do we reply you about the ideas and stuff?
- Pankration Mechani
- Terraformed landscape of a failed Commencer
- Generation ship (crashed)
- Old temple of Ynneval, AI worshipped as a god on the frozen planet of Sparr
- HA forward operating base w/ generators and huge lasers on the twilight fields of the Dawnline shore
- HORUS Hacker pyramid, dedicated to RA
- SSC labs filled with bioengineered monstrosities in tanks
- IPS-N lumberyard with gigantic redwood trees, fallen trees, and lumber equipment
- Spinal “highway” of a spaceship intended for moving cargo/personnel/vehicles up and down a ship
- Surface of a scorching hot planet, only safety found in shadows of large rocks/debris/ruins
- collection of asteroids linked together with tow cables, with various equipment/defenses on each
If your in the CzePeku server you can go make the suggestions yourself but if you're not then
I can truck your ideas over there
- glassy dunes of sand pockmarked with glass from impacts from the constant lightning storms in the atmosphere
TF2 Badwater Basin
Ok I kid
Urban street/city maps, highways and sci-fi overpasses
I would like to see Mech Trench maps like the ones from forever winter, I also like there to be more Desert badlands maps
Just give me some of the most inhospitable places you can find and drop my players in there
- HA mech manufacturing plant? Figure it’d have plenty of cool reactor lights
The message that prompted Cze to ask was this one:
Its like have the reason i don't use CzePeku maps at all hours because (1) is cool but very few have good lead ins to other maps that fit my needs
Maybe I'm alone in that but that always feels like half the struggle. When i map browse
Yeah it's harder to find maps because alot of dnd's map are also social maps and tavern brawl spaces
I want giant cities where my size 3's can roam free
Next best thing are dungeon maps, but many of those are interior spaces
Interior spaces with wider rooms/corridors are good
CzePeku does have a couple asteroid base maps actually!
True, I was thinking of one of a different kind
Theyre a bit on the older size, and pretty obviously made more with human scale in mind
But it does exist, just so you know
They had Big Central Asteroid but not Collection of Smaller Asteroids
- pirate hangar concealed in an asteroid, with giant blast doors leading to space
- palace courtyard of a soon-to-be-toppled despot; columns, statues, fountains. Bonus points for artillery craters and some wrecked mechs/tanks.
- black ops research base - on site reactor, labs, and barracks
- train heist but it's sci fi maglev
- space elevator platform?
Urban combat maps in a similar vein as OSR aren't very common, could be good. Doesn't need anything particularly Lancer other than the scale.
Floating city in the clouds of a gas giant. Or smaller platforms, like gas harvesters?
Comet map, with the comet's coma as a hazard. Asteroid map with a twist. 😉
Hey Valk, whats this first one I'm pretty sure its something to do with 'mech fighting ring' but I don't usually deal with this putside of knowing Pankrati is a talent
It’s from KTB but basically “mech scale gladiator arena”
thank you i gotta do some translating for Cze
I might’ve gotten the spelling wrong so maybe double check me
“PANKRATION MEKANI” is the correct spelling
- ship hangar
- inside of a space battleship
- lunar base
knowing czepeku's style, inside factories would also be really good
oh yeah, wanna ask, what's gonna be the scale at per square/hex for the maps? typically mech-scale i always view it as like, 5m per hex/square
I told em ‘Lancer is generally 10ft = 1 hex but size is variable’ and a tidbit of ‘a Size 3 mech should be able to move across the map in some way’
I think they got it but they’ve been very open about asking questions when they don’t understand
You could share some of the official maps so they can get a feel for the size & scale of things.
Can I ask what you've made that in? It looks like Owl Bear but I'm wondering if you're doing it in Photoshop directly or something like that
Not owlbear, this was made outside of any VTTS
I used this website which was recommended to me by writhing brat in map making channel to get a hex grid
Then I load it into clip studio paint, this is because I have it, affinity photo didn't work too well and I refuse to get photoshop
I align the map with the grid then make 2 layers per cover type (so all size 1, etc)
This lower layer is the fill, I set it to real low opacity depending on the cover and fill it with the cover of the colour.
Then the upper layer I fill with any colour, somewhat related to the cover type. Then I use the magic wand hex grid selecting all the relevant cover then use the inverse of this selection to make a mask, so it fills everything EXCEPT the cover. I then set it to have a border that leaks into the tiles, with the border colour being a lighter shade of the cover colour.
Then I put both those layers into a folder and put the non-inverted mask back onto it, so only the border and low opacity background is visible, then give the folder itself a subtle glow effect
Fair enough, just reminded me of filling in hex tiles in owl bear back in the day.
Thanks for the link though, I'll have to check that out 🙏
I know you can do it in photoshop by using folders, masks (my beloved) stroke and inner+outer glow but if you want more specifics such as exact colours or how to do it in Clip studio then send a DM cos I don't wanna clog this channel
I hope the new process will be faster, just took a while because it's first time using it. Before I just did it in inkarnate
Sorry just was copying and pasting responses from when I answered the same question in another channel 😅
I also dabbled in incarnate but I'd never thought about doing all the zones within it, that's why I always did zones in VTT, saved my mind a little, but obviously never looked as well polished as your maps up top.
Thanks for the information 🙏
Despite having very polished zones I still use the zoneless versions and draw the zones on in foundry afterwards
There's a map making channel?
This one
Ahhh 😫 I feel dumb
what's nice about this hex grid is that it's an actual hex grid, unlike the weirder shapes in the roll20
Been running a homebrewed campaign for the past 11 months and I want to share one map I am super proud of. The cracks are ingress zones (that can be closed) and the crystals are blast one AP energy damage when hit. The best bit is that there four tiers of elevation. This was a Recon Sitrep.
This is the second to last combat. It's a lot. Pretty much the bad room in Event Horizon.
anyone got good moon maps
Depends on what you're looking for. There are theese:

quick and dirty:
oh hell yes
That's one of the best maps I've seen. Very atmospheric, but the information is also very clear and diegetic.
The only point of critic is the lack of shadows from the small crates.
I did try to give small crate shadows at some point but struggled to be satisfied by them ^^;
Post Inkarnate yes ^^;;;
I just used clip studio, as for inspiration I heavily was inspired by Siege's work in the Shadow of the Wolf maps
Took a while, quite tedious to make... Has a couple mistakes but I'm glad it's over... Multi-stage fights are... a thing
In golden flame act 1 spoilers
Map in space hurtling above a space station whilst support struts of the station collide with the map destroying it... ||ALSO whilst fighting an ultra ship rainmaker||
Sounds truly frenetic. I bet it’ll be a blast. And beautiful too.
Yooo
Helluva mapjob holee
God damn Al you cook absolute peak maps
Our group has 1-shot combats whenever one of us isn't present and we always use your maps ❤️
Aww thats great :D
Ok thats genuinely really really cool!
Small map i made for a oneshot! Players were dropped off via dropship into the deployment zone and had to use to intercept a HA-Broadcast before it finishes (dw Sitrep was not King of the Hill, placing the OZ so close to the enemy spawn would have been evil). Then wait for the dropship to return and extract.
is this in inkarnate?
yes!
ah wait- did you ask if its uploaded there or made in there? did not upload/publish it in inkarnte itself but can do so if you want
No I meant how you made this. I am trying to make modern/scifi battlemaps in inkarnate. and I had some questions
ah! ye used inarnate, and sure go ahead! :3
how do you align inkarnate grids with roll20 grids?
^
oh! i use foundry instead of roll20 for lancer- hmm, i am honestly unsure how to do that best as roll20 is more restrictive in grid-adjustments, sorry
ok, Also how do you do the translucent deployment zones?
i paint the corresponding colour with 40%~ ish opacity on the zone, either on the color where the regular background is or on the "top" layer if it doesnt interfere with anything. Same with the outlines, put them on lower opacity and add a tiny bit of blur there
If you stretch the image in the vertical plane by some amount I think it lines up right?
right, but it is a pain to do so. I just made some landmarks match size 1 or 2 cover sections in the hexes and then removed the grid from the image cause I was getting tired of doing so
I think Valk has a guide pinned in #lancer-vtt
Not for r20 but definitely check the pins
Ah, yeah that’s Foundry. Finally found it, my bad.
It's a search and rescue mission sitrep 🙂
The refugees are in the tents and the flying vehicles are the evac points
Lil screenshot of the terrain setup
(obvs the example of the terrain setup is a low res screenie 😉 the full detail map is the top one )
Are there any sitreps we don't have a lot of maps for 🤔
recon
recon is just control 👀 and a little bit worse
are you talking about 1st party sitreps?
Just generally...I use some third party ones
Is there a strep there's a lack of maps for? 🤔
Recon does assume a central enemy deployment instead of a map edge deployment like Control
does anyone have any good train/highway maps?
hopefully one of those helps think those are all ive found on reddit/r/battlemaps for those words
interesting, thank you
breach and clear
Been a while since I needed to make a map, but this is a general all purpose small map!
Great for defense or assault.
Factory roof, different heights for players and enemies to clambour on, and the small brush is flamable via profile weapons
amazing. How do you go about making such amaxing grass and forest? Whenever I use inkarnate I just use the default grasslands and the odd tree and bush, but this is next level
yeah absolutely!
-
use of backgrounds
Think of using Inkarnate like any other art. It's a process of constantly layering various aspects ontop of each other. So typically i start with a base background, like the floor texture I used blanket. Notably, Inkarnate does not limit you to 1 or 2 packs when you make a map. In this case, I used the greenlands and brush from the fantasy battlemaps pack along with aspects from Sci fi map -
stamps/objects
It's important to note that you can add objects fully. Particulary with inkarnate, you can adjust opacity and such. So the grass lines, trees, and bushes, are all different sized bushes and trees pulling from the fanasy pack. -
use of opacity/textures
You have access to brushes and opacity tools. So you can pick a background, use the brush tool, change opacity and color toning to layer more texture.
The green splotches are the transparent moss brush with varying opacities.
Same with the small green grasses (gotta zoom to see it)
(I just realized I forgot to post this map as well)
Great for an escort or ambush! Side OBJS are the small litterings of cargo to capture and hold while you try to escort people
nice mix of inkarnates fantasy and sci-fi stamps
Honestly I wonder if there is a ship crash map
Here be desert and megastructure themed maps, may they be useful
Here be some more, this time in vaporware hot pink
These are fantastic
I'm using inkarnate to try and make maps for the campaign i'm writing so, here ya go
Are these hand drawn? Very cool
Yesh, I like to draw em, nice break from the usual commission fare
quite impressive!
Super dope love the colours
Thankie
Anyone got a map of an arena? Planning to do some pankrati fights!
There's is that one from Dustgrave it's pretty awesome
I don't got dustgrave 😔
I have a Coliseum map for free on my Lancing Dawn maps
Lemme go get a link
Its it here somewhere
Four "battleship interior" maps that I made for a side-arc.

Does anyone know where these lancer maps come from? I remember finding them in a shared Google Drive, but I lost the link.
I think it’s a gundam game, I might have the folder bookmarked
tysm!! 😆
A new battlemap I've made for my ongoing campaign.
multiple levels. verticality can be ignored or leaned into 🙂
oh, and I put a hex in the bottom left to help you sync up the size in your VTT
very cool, makes me think of the fallout society built on ruined overpass
Smart af idea
😄 I'm not technically inclined when maps say it's such and such size. The visual hex is nice I think ^ - ^
How did you do the shadows?
Shape tool, make a shape for the shadow with just a black background, high opacity and high blur
ty, this is gonna change everything in my map
I'm supremely lazier than @quaint flame suggests.
I usually copy the stamp onto a lower level. Reduce the brightness to 0. Reduce the opacity and I add blur.
The shape tool is the ultimate technique...
But I tend to make my maps in under an hour so I end up doing what's easiest instead 😅
Huh...
So ill usually just repositioned cloned stamps that are set to dark
Like a tree...I'll copy paste the tree. Make it dark, put it under the original. And blur + opacity
I tried that, but it is getting too messy with all the overlaping tokens, and I am having trouble trying to draw shadows from shapes that arent made to be shadowed, like terrains or line objects
Though I would use the shape tool like you suggested...I just don't have the time
it works well enough for 90% of the tokens tho
mostly I am trying to do the shadows of the overpass
the top right part where the broken overpass meets the terrain and slides down like a hill is the part that is vexing me, as well as how to do the shadows of the fences of the overpass
Blur helps 🙂
right, but when 2 token shadows overlap, their shadows mix and become darker
That's the downside. In that scenario you're better off using the shape tool technique
Though I'm way too short on time to do that
this is why you let scheduling conflicts be your friend and give you more time to prep.
Though if you lack time from irl shit then thats rough
Because shape tool auto merges, where 2 shadows collide it just becomes one big shadow
they dont overlap and combine their opacity?
They become one shape
They won't if you use the shape tool...it's amazing for shadows
You need to have "merge shape" selected though
Yep
Also you can use tones better as you can select the colours of the shadows...for example a light blue hue for cool shadows or a warmer orange
The shape tool is great
Also I'd move the rock and bush shadows slightly closer to the source so they don't look like they are floating.
Otherwise I like the map
those are trees
at least they are supposed to, and as for the rocks, they are big, some of them are size 2
If they are big and the shadow is going to big... you should still anchor the shadow a liiiiiitle closer. So it doesn't look like it's hovering.
Then in inkarnake. You can stretch shapes via transform. If you transform the shadow to be longer in the direction the shadow would stretch it will defo sell the illusion that they are larger
( you can stretch shapes and stamps )
Otherwise it's spend an hour manually doing shadows via the shape tool lol. Which i just do not have the patience for
Real
I made 4 Arena fights once upon a time.
I'd allso call that Solstice Rain Mission 1 Battle 3 map, that is sick
what's the grid size for this?
yea that would've been a fantastic OSR M1 B3 map
Eidolon maps! Finally got to the fight after 3 months of scheduling and pc issues ;;
IGF mission 1 spoilers
REMASTER AGGAIN >:D
Decided to make the map very CQB like
The previous one I had
Love CQB maps
Ya’all are gonna make me switch to inkarnate. It’s all so pretty.
Inkarnate is preem but also EFFORT
At rouggghly 19x19, It still seems rather long range with your standards 😛
Nah 20x20 is my top range
getting back to this
CHOO CHOOOO!
I may be stupid... Funny thingg is I'm never running this fight ever lmao
Hellll yeah
would love to have the ground file as a mp4 or webm btw
what are the effects of falling off?
EOR all characters move to the left 2d6 tiles
I made the background dramatically fast cos it looks boring if slowed
Even if you are technically travelling 477 mph
The map is 35 tiles wide, each tile is roughly 10 ft. The background goes by twice per second... so it's technically going 213.36 meters per second
Which is 477 mph
If it was travelling at 80mph (more realistic), the background would loop every 3 seconds
I don't know if this is the right place to ask but what would you guys recommend for a map builder?
Now that Inkarnate has sci-fi assets natively, it's a pretty solid choice for most people. There are other options, but I find Inkarnate's subscription fee of like, 12 dollars for the year well worth it.
Ill check it out
I think this page is done
on to something way more exciting: rocks!
Those rock!
Ok the reactions are also rocking
Rock!
I've been looking through the spreadsheet a bit but can anyone recommend battlemaps for a long rim campaign? I've already got kaffeezombie's space map pack and nhp shaka's map pack has a handful of long rim adaptable maps. I suppose I could repurpose Al's IGF maps but I might run that someday so idk
Specifically what I'm looking for are ship/station interiors, asteroid outposts, etc. at mech scale
I’ve got a weird space station layout map in my free scifi maps folder!
It’s not run down but then again not every place is gonna be terrible
Oh yeah that's fine, I don't expect to find perfect fits or anything
It should be on the spreadsheet under AdmiralStarNight
Here
Lots of my other stuff is ground based
But idk maybe it will be useful
Oh yeah oops I opened the lancing dawn one and couldn't find it
Oh sorry I should've specified mech scaled maps
It is mech scaled, it just has a lot of narrative scaled places too
That’s what the long outside passage is for. But obviously you don’t need to use it
I’ve never used it, I just made it for fun, but I envision its use as a ‘gotta board from the hangar and fight in some way to the command center’ for something
Mm yeah. Could just set the grid scale so a size 1 mech takes up like 2x2
I always make my maps gridless for the express purpose of being able to shrink the grid to whatever size you need for your mechs
Ohh I think I got baited by the floor tiles
Yeah those definitely match the grid when I make it in Dungeondraft but it doesn’t need to be that size
A size 3 should be able to fit down the Big corridor
(Though that might get a bit cramped)
On inkarnate how big do you guys typically make your maps?
Not inkarnate but I make maps between 15x15 and 25x25
24x17 has a nice screen ratio
I am Small Map Biased however and other tend to go bigger
Which way are you speaking?
Scaling up the image resolution I typically don't bother with, but plenty of people like to make very detailed things.
Grid wise, inkatnate hex v square is not equal, but measures from square to start always. So I normally start with 30x30 or so, which is maybe 42+ hex, but way bigger than needed ever.
But I don't mind making a "too big" map that I can cut down to a section for a sitrep. Or just have way too big of a map lol
I also make maps on inkatnate and use it's grid as a scale basis for putting stamps down, but I determine final sitrep grid size in foundry when importing the map in the end.
Which is to say, I don't always perfectly plan maps, I play a lot more lose with the process than many people are comfortable with.
Thanks for the info
I do 35x21
It's, quite large lengthways. Good length height. But allows to lock off the sides of the map if you wanted it smaller anyway
All my maps follow same dimensions so if I want a small map I just wall it off
What are some of the free map creation tools y'all use?
some flora
Big fan of the round greenhouses

Hey I've asked in the questions channel and they've directed me here. I'm new and I don't know an alternative to getting the map generator that's on itch.io, is there any other good alternatives? The main issue is I think I also need to buy the corebook so I can make NPCs, but together it's a good amount of money, unless the NPC maker is optional? I'm just so confused so help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!
Ideally I'd just be able to put more pilots into a battle but I don't think I can so just any advice on how to run a game would help alot
Honestly I don't need to make anything with tons of detail and intricacies, just something that works as most maps will either be desert or industrial environments with more foresty areas in the middle (most of the planet the game takes place on is inhospitable apart from a large desert, a few jungles and the frigid northern regions)
Re: core book NPCs, youre not getting an npc maker per se, its a file you're loading into your virtual tabletop of choice
and then building them through that
As far as maps there's a collection pinned to this channel
Sorry guess I wasn’t clear, I’ll have to get the file eventually but I just mean is there a good alternative to make maps instead of just downloading them
Inkarnate, Dungeon Scrawl are both free for personal use, DungeonDraft is $20 and lets you distribute
Do they support hexagon maps?
Inkarnate goes good with hexes yeah, Dungeon Scrawl is more of a square grid
But is it possible to make hexes on Dungeon Scrawl?
It's just that inkarnate doesn't have that many options without paying
I dunno if inkarnate does monthly subs, but it's yearly price is pretty reasonable.
That said, even if you got access, there is a lot of learning to use the tools you'll gain access to regardless.
As a general rule, when you're buying or paying for art programs, it's for ease of use and nice features.
You could just download GIMP (freeware Photoshop equivalent), but that has more of a learning curve because it's free, and you would still have to find assets or make them yourself.
If you're not already an artist, digital or otherwise, you are going to find that there is nearly no easy to produce cool things fully free.
That said, you don't need fancy things if you're playing with friends and trying out the game or not looking to invest money in it presently. Literally just make scribbles on a hex grid. It's nice to make things fancy, but you don't have to.
Yeah, turns out dungeon scrawl does both square and hexes:
https://www.dungeonscrawl.com/
Thanks sorry I completely forgot about discord lol. I am probs just gonna use dungeon scrawl or look for maps because I only need simple ones for the first session (a ship interior and an open desert). I guess wish me luck lol
All the best! Also, on the question of the core rule book, you need it for the NPCs. Not available in the free version. You can't really have lancer fight without them

Hello everyone, does anyone have a map that look like this but prettier (or at least not ugly) ?
quickly made this in inkarnate and think i got pretty close
the crystal angle isn't quite right
ok i think this is looking good
Das is cool
hell yeah upsidedown crane!
Hi. Looking for a set of realistic-ish battlemaps. Any ideas?
Great setup
Did you used webm because it works better with foundry?
i was thinking helping my gm to maybe make something similar but my concern was optimization
for what it's worth, webm does indeed play much nicer than pngs do
it is a video
factory/industrial stuff

Is there a good resource for actually designing maps? I'm thinking about just making abstract maps in dungeon scrawl, but I'm still struggling with overall map structure and objective placement etc.
the mods have mentioned that #gm-corner is a great place for map creation strategies, enemy comps and such. I believe there are some resources pinned there as well.
Reposting link to map layout archetypes for inspiration, these all work good:

Damn that's a nice map you made there, I'd love to play a combat on it some time 😏🙏
This map is so cool I wanna run a one shot with it
Thanks for adding sizing instructions. Makes prepping the game a lot easier.
Np at all! Anything to help stop the 10 minutes of dial-twiddling just to get the map set up
Made this map for an Enhanced Combat Breach & Clear. Terrain is broken up because all players had flight, I think using it conventionally is doable, but it might take some work. This one was originally exported in 8k too (oops), so these settings might not look as crisp:

i made my fist map using incarnate
fxmaster and foundry lighting is magic
Goodbye low end pcs tho. XD
thankfully my players are Gamers(tm)
I couldn't find any Breach and Clear maps that suited my purposes so I meticulously assembled one entirely in Foundry using 2-Minute Tabletop's Sci-Fi Interiors (well ok I adjusted the colours on these outside of Foundry) and their Sci-Fi Map Assets as well. (Also I used one little bathroom from TygerSciFi because wow I actually found a use for one)
holy shit, How did you manage to align the train tracks with the row of hexagons?
They are using a different hexagonal layout
I make the map around the hexs, so i know where the grid is and made the rail going along them
Properly put together a blank/clean version of this map

God I love foundry
A new breach and clear map 🙂
Seems this map has been popular
tossed this together for my group's run through wallflower's protect the engineers. It's hard to tell how balanced it is so I thought I'd share before I go making the next map 😅
very nice! got the raw map?
I don't and that makes me realize I should have done all of the zone graphic and heights as a separate layer!
lol
oo wanna ask, got a version without the overlays?
Here!
Do you happen to have the name of that Font. That is a really cool font.
Looks like this one: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Saira+Stencil+One
Saira Stencil is the stencil version of Saira, designed by Héctor Gatti and developed by Omnibus-Type Team. To contribute, see github.com/Omnibus-Type/Saira/tre
Looks pretty nice in combination with THT as well.
That looks really good! Do you have a tool for doing the zone outlines? For mine I ended up using a line and tracing the hexes by hand
It's all done in Foundry using Terrain Height Tools. That way I can change them on the fly if needed. https://foundryvtt.com/packages/terrain-height-tools

Hey, not to be annoying or anything, but how easy would it be to get this map with the terrain contours, but without the sitrep DZ/CZ/EDZs ?
It's exactly what I need in terms of the map itself (and just fire in general), but not the sitrep I'm planning on using. And since all I have is the LMCT and my very limited understanding of it, all I know how to add on top of it are the sitrep zones, not the terrain footprints and sizes...
Not an issue if it's not possible/too big of a hassle though, I'll figure something out. Just figured it's worth asking first, in case you have it lying around already.
Already exists
Go into the pins here, go to my Google drive, go into act 2 and then the one which isn't elevator going down
oh damn
hol up
simply fabulous
certainly better than whatever I would've tried, that's for sure
I even know what that sheet in the pins is really about now, thanks for that !
I'd say this is going to save me a ton of time, but realistically speaking I'm actually going to waste a ton of it going through everything now
Anyways yeah awesome map, amazing work

MAPP
A bit hectic... Looks too busy in some parts and too empty in others
BUUUT the map is meant to be hectic, it's in a space station reactor room whilst all the reactors are full blast. THe place is too hot to exist, there is soft cover and dangerous terrain from cascading fires
Will draw cover overlay when it isn't nnearly 2 am
Solar punk battlefields?
60x60 map? Sounds ripe for a 4x4 battlefield
4x4 battlefield?
I misspoke, I meant 2x2. 4 maps 30x30 spaces in a square
ive made that mistake a lot myself tbh
Hello again, I'm trying to follow your method you recommended to me earlier this week and I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding what to do. I'm very inexperienced with image editing software so I'm quite confused on what exactly I am supposed to be doing. I'm using GIMP because it was free, as far as I am aware and able to tell, it has all the features that I'd need for this, I'm just completely unsure how to piece them together in the way you're saying. Any help or explanation would be very greatly appreciated.
Step 1, have the grid setup. And a folder representing whichever layer you want. So in this example I'll do size 1 hard cover
Step 2, select 1 of the hexes with the magic wand then apply the selection as a mask on the folder
Inside the folder you want 3 things, text to represent the layer and piece of cover, a border which here is layer 2 copy 2 which you apply outline settings to, and a fill that you want low opacity to represent the ambient colour of the cover
So with this setup the piece of cover should look like this or something similar as you have it, basically right now it should be the selection you made but filled up
Step 3 you apply the SAME selection of the mask to the outline layer and then invert it
What this is doing, is it is making a layer which is making the selected layer have a glowy border for everythingg EXCEPT The hex, so the first imagge is showing what it is doing
But because of the 1st mask we applied, the massive outside is not shown so ONLY the border is visible. This makes a neat little hologgraphic looking border
Then step 4: GGive it text
Repeat these steps with other cover types/things you want to be on the map
Hopefully that makes more sense?
Damn, that be bootiful.
Oh my goodness that is so insanely helpful. Thank you so much!
I am assuming this is in Gimp?
Clip studio paint
That actually makes so much sense now. The images are very helpful.
Huh. Might have to see if I can do something similar in Krita.
Text ramblings only partially make sense to me and that's bad because I wrote them
Gimp looks similar, but the magic wand tool is called fuzzy selection. For some reason.
If your photo software supports:
Masks
Selections
Folders
Outlines
Then it likely can do this
Just to differing effects
I don't like Gimp but that's because of personal reasons. Most image software I use has very similar hotkeys. But gimp has different hotkeys and it infuriates me
I try to deselect something so press CTRL+D and it duplicates the tab and it makes me want to throw my laptop through the window
Thankfully it's still CTRL+Z for undo or I'd be screwed.
If any software has undo as something that is NOT ctrl+z then I will actually... Blow up
It gets antsy when it becomes Redo, because it's either CTRL+Y or CTRL+SHIFT+Z
OR something similar
Once again thank you so much! I'm currently just doing a test map to get familiar with the software and placing the zones but once I have enough free time to make a full map and get the zones on I'll show the results.
I think Krita calls Folders Groupings for Layers, so that should fly then.
I have figured out that selections don't actually need to be hexes. I can make cover in any shape I want
I have too much power and it hsould be taken from me
not only will I NOT take this power from you, I will actively encourage you to cultivate it
embrace the void of grid
become one of the gridless
Cultivate it. Be the Wuxia MC of the Unconventional Grid.
Text in the text for more cursed points
Informative!
Problem with gridless, is it becomes much harder because I need to draw the cover lines manually
Which is why I have this convoluted process over making them in Inkarnate
And if i wanted specific placements and measuring base to base and spending minutes finding the perfect placement then I'd be playing warhammer 😛
this is valid, for as long as Token Height Tools is bound to the grid, it makes sense to adhere to the grid
I wish THT though could make the border colors and such look that soft though. Even putting the opacity of the word color all the way down will still make it stand out.
Maybe suggest it as a feature?
It seems Gimp does not possess layer outline settings in this way. I may consider just getting clip studio paint so I can follow you exactly. Other than that I was able to get it working. Thank you!
It has a free trial, costs a pretty penny but it's a 1 time purchase
I won't be surprised if gimp can have a stroke setting or an outline
You can probs Google it to find answers, there must be a way
Jeez. Pretty penny is right. I hope you have the 60 dollar version and not the 260 dollar version.
Well all I've found on google is saying it doesn't have direct outline settings and just people using a second bigger layer for outer outlines but it doesn't really work with the masks inside the grid.
I found out how to do it, my monitor was not fullscreened so I couldn't see the top menus such as the edit menu where stroke selection is. Just my mistake.
Last time pinging you, sorry. I forgot replying does that.
I think it already is but I'm not sure because the opacity doesn't look like it is changing even with the setting turned all the way down. Plus I think someone already spoke of that.
Does anybody know if there are arctic battlemaps available? I'm looking to run Sleeping Above a Stolen Crown, and would like to find some maps I can use for the random sequences that crop up.
I think there should be some in the #1056034709555138610 thread for Stolen Crown?
Check out Szkins stolen crown resource pack it's in the stolen crown thread and also on Valks notion resource database
stupid question, but how do you get the hex grid you started with?
Just make one hex and tile it or?

any tips on how to make this enemy military base better?
Maybe a truck or a couple of containers around the middle of the map? Or a some soft cover or difficult/dangerous terrain?
Dangerous terrain might not make sense inside the base, but outside could have mines
As for soft cover I could use road barriers that could be size 1
I like the mines idea.
Could be energy from those things in the north - maybe if they get damaged? idk.
Soft cover could be steam or smoke from a truck in the base - maybe it's broken or smashed and has difficult or dangerous terrain/hard cover as well?
maybe before the battle their allies could do a preliminary bombardment as cover.
I am also trying to make up my own sitrep. Smash and Grab. Basically the objective is to destroy important bits of resources and infrastructure, like the printer, the fuel tanks, and the Generators, but they can also go to the golden crates and pick them up, 1 at a time per mech, and steal them, netting them resources for the resistance. If they do so they will get a special reward.
The main idea is that they need to be in and out before enemy reinforcements arrive in mass once the timer hits 0
Or maybe breakable barrels of gas or smoke etc.
looking forward to seeing your maps in action
Satellite cannon map! Last session my players had to go into the barrel of an active satellite cannon to place bombs into maintenance hatches while it periodically fired! (Our enkidu pilot did some terrifying things to the turrets and ships defending the cannon). Not suuuper happy with the map tbh, but hey its a finished product
Holy hell
Ngl it took a hot minute to realise that was inkarnate
That's impressive considering the assets you have at your disposal
A- thankuu!!! ❤️
Looking great!
(got a lot of help from a friend on this one ^^ )
it's the map for reactor defense; wanted to go a bit wild with it
Love that take!
so for one it's an indoor map some some doors can be closed/opened(via pilot or manipulators, as a free action if on door control); some paths have limited height/etc.
Also I wanted the demolisher to have a chance of being close enough to the power regulator hence giving it its own deployment zone closer up.
To go a bit wild(my players actually surveyed sites of possible attacks), I'm giving my players multiple pathway on the battlefield;
First there's the main deployment area on the right.
But there's also a walkway corridor where only halfsize characters fits; meanwhile there's maintenance tunnels where a single Size 1 mech can go through... but I might put it down to a narrative role to imply the tunnels being harder to go through
Finally an option I'm thinking of is having the players try to deploy from the enemy's own deployment zone; a consequence of that would be joining the fight only on the last turn of the first round and having to perform a risky roll to succeed; on failure they're pushed back by a rear guard group and can,t ingresss through there and the risk is the player taking a structure damage.
oooo nice! do you have one without the grid?
I do! I'm about to head to bed though so can you remind me tomorrow? I should be able to send it to you after work ^^
sure!
do we have any isometric ship assets? like i want to make the battle on top of a ship in iso. any ideas?
Made this map wtih incarnate for my GM, fell free to use
immediately turned int-to Battlefield 3 Metro
trench warfare? In my mech RPG? It’s more aesthetic than you may think
that's was excatly the idea
the dark parts suppose to be underground, i didn't indicated it properly. Some tunnels only big enoguh for size 1
It looks like A BF3 map lol
reminder
thanks! gonna boot up my main PC in a second!
yippe! thanks!
hmm, possible without the overlays? usually like to place those myself
Such a gorgeous map!
Thank you ^_^
I wonder if there is some decent space station maps. Mainly because of a "flying fort" idea
https://lmplo.itch.io/in-golden-flame-act-1-unofficial-map-pack
Compiled all my maps so far into an itch project >:D (Mods if I'm doing anything wrong pls lmk)
Yoooooo
Thank you so much
I'm already having to make maps for Wallflower so I was worried about lacking the time to make maps for IGF so having the full map pack somewhere like this is A+
Ask and ye shall receive (well, for borders at least)
Yooooooooooooo
That honestly looks beautiful
What u use to draw zones?
And you?

This is the Terrain Height Tools module for Foundry VTT
Intorestingaru that you also changed the UI. It be looking clean :3
Hey all, can you recommend any assets to represent wrecked vehicles/metal parts?
The map I'm assembling (for tomorrow) is made up of metal plates torn off an armored truck and other minor vehicles. Starting to look like I'll have to make my own, but would rather not.
Could try this one for some destroyed vehicles? https://starlight-furnace.itch.io/starlight-menagerie
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunatly, I already had a look at what's available there and sadly nothing really fits.
posted on retrograde, might as well post here
Teach me, senpai.
I try
Posted on retrograde! I'll post here as well too when I get home (if I remember)
Sorry old message but im only reading this now, what tolkens would ye use for newly made cover? Im preping for a lancer campaign on foundry and am curious whats used
Does that include the parts you used to make the ship?
it does!
here it is tho
Dang. Noice.
Sorry to bump, but I'm not sure I know how to find this. Can you advise?
its right here
Ohh, wait, you mean you used a cutout of that image. Got it, got it. Thank you : )
yeye
10 x10 maps that could be used for Lancer, but orginally devloped for use in my own game.
10x10 slugfests, love em
indeed, works better when movment is orthagonal otherwise speedy speeds in Lancer will speed tf outta it.
1-2-1 diagonals my beloved
trying out Inkarnate for the first time and struggling with my ambition and lack of knowledge. how do I make a hexagonal hole in the middle of this map to give the impression that there's a big aperture offering a view of the planet below
I made the planet as a stamp but can't figure out how to draw map over it
does inkarnate have a layers feature anyone?
Not sure. Been a long time since I touched that map making software.
I think it used to have one?
This channel is intended more as a warehouse of maps with enthusiastic map related conversation happening by its occupants.
The mods encourage folks to ask for map making help in #gm-corner , and you might get more traction there.
Off the top of my head though, I did something similar with a space station map that had parts break away and revealing an image of the planet below., I combined them in Foundry, but does your vtt support layers?
there really should be a channel about workshopping active projects
and there is always a lot of talk about techniques and resources that sometimes I think would be better suited to such a channel
I would frequent such a place.
I’m here pretty frequently though. Have you thought about combining the map parts in your vtt?
Yes, it has layers and it also has the terrain/background which is behind it all
Tokens can be stamped to the background layers, this will mean that token cannot be edited and the texture brushes can draw over them
Here, you can stamp the planet to the background, draw space around it then use the glass texture to draw ontop of it
The creature has blessed you with their appreciation.
the secret size 8 mech?????
ANy good 'Lunar' maps here?
just straight lunar surface or you want some kind of structure on there?
I like how delicate the height and other demarcations are. Have you ever encountered this to be a struggle for your players? Particularly in maps containing more and varying terrains?
Apologies, I accidentally replied to an older message, hope you don't mind.
Honestly not too much. If anything my players got pretty familiar with climbing rules in Dustgrave
(One of my player used that a few time to get over size 2 obstacles to reach crucial objectives, such as when I had Durst Slaughter hide behind his map's bigger terrains)
Thank you : ) It's one of those overlays that do make me think again about how I want to mark my maps.
made this one a while back , the vibe i was trying to go for was sci fi church but use it how you see fit
where do people sit
The floor, where they feel the hum of the machine spirit rumble through their bones
you know i have no idea i think it just got into my head that there is nowhere to sit
Maybe the seats pop out of the floor when a sermon is happening?
‘the machine provides’ or something similar
i like to imagine that mechanized people (people with more pronounced augmentations) or mechanized creatures can kinda lock their joints in place
so they're their own chair in a sense
or it's a temple thing. people are usually kneeling for a really long time so there's no point when you're on your knees for the surmon
pull up with these bad boys to mechachurch
that is a very interesting idea , and it does fit with the only real npc i had in there , the priestess looked like a stereotypical angelic person at first but then my players realized there was a sort of visual static hiding giant machinery sticking put from her ( kinda like those robot arms but connected to her spine which makes her barely touch the ground and give the illusion of floating ) and two giant mechanical hands covering the exit for the players
the idea was that the static obscured how she moved to give off a more ethereal appearance , essentially givinng a whole like living puppet vibes in a sense
Don't you just wish you could pull a chair out of your butt sometimes? Well wish no further.. wait.. wish no more? Stop wishing, it doesn't work. Uhh. Peg Pants?

Looking for a nice, pleasant looking top down grassy or nature-esk map? Anyone got any suggestions?
Also - are there any other other maps of this level of quality? Super impressed by these ones.
Amazing work!
Told you dude,
.
Never doubt about it, all your maps look down right awesome.
I have several grassy, outside maps in my folder.

I have this map from Seigefault's freebies but I can't seem to find the right size
I'm trying to get a map for a Harrison Armory facility to do Search and Rescue in
Do you guys have any tips on converting assets made in one isometric angle into a different angle? Is it even reliably doable?
Only possible with 3d models
Give it another year or two, I suppose.
Though even if not 100% faithfully, I was wondering if the angle can be adjusted through distortion well enough to pass.
I mean... are you expecting a flat stamp on the ground or an isometric object from a stamp
Because if you want a flat stamp on the ground that's very easy, it's simply matrix transformation applied to the image. Probably along the lines of rotate the image 45 degrees and squash it's height by half.
If you want an isometric object with depth and height then that's impossible as that data doesn't exist. 2d images are 2d so the depth information doesn't exist
And if you want a 3d image from a 2d image the only way to do that is predictive algorithms, aka ai
I meant merely adjusting the iso angle. Here's a comparison, the ship being slightly off compared to the building.
I see
Same comment stands, just transform it until it looks better
So rotate and scale
Yeah, that's what I've done, kind of gotten it close, but I feel like it wasn't sitting right on the grid. But now that I think about it, I'm guessing it will simply be the drawing, which wasn't done with precision in mind.
Thanks, though.
I'm working on a Lunar Map pack at the moment, it will be ready in about a day or two if you can wait, it will have 50 maps with day/night variations, lunar regolith fields and bases
Love the detail on the moon map looks super cool
very nice!
Looking forward to this.
Map for Wallflower mission 3-2
Does Wallflower take place on a primitive planet? Or is it a matter of asset availability? Genuine question
Define primitive?
I mean it’s a jungle planet with lots of agrarian industries so
That's not what I would define as primitive :/
Sorry, I meant the infrastructure and technological stage of vehicles being used. Basically, it looks contemporary.
Imagine sort of rural and small industry that manufacturer basic goods
Off course rural is also futuristic kind of rural
Yeah no agreed, I meant that it is just not gonna look urban if that was Kazno’s expectation
No, definitely not expecting urban in a rural area.
So if the planet is like ours, it could be considered primitive for the Lancer universe.
Got it, ok. Sometimes you just work with the assets you have, and the assets are contemporary pickup trucks on contemporary farms
Yeah, so that was my question precisely. I haven't purchased Wallflower yet.
Bit of A bit of B. Really the only asset I lacked that would have been nice to have was a tractor/large farm equipment, but we make do.
WF definitely gives the vibes that ~90% of what you'd see there is contemporary to our own planet now.
Without spoiling anything major ||Wallflower is set on a colony planet thats only been running for ~50yrs. And while the colony city has a single schedule 2 printer, the outer towns have nothing of that level. This combat is built around getting them evacuated to the main city and there being...a Roadblock, hence i went with car crash on backroads.||
And definitely give wallflower a read if you aren't planning to be a player for it. Easily some of the best Lancer storytelling and extremely compelling
Thanks for the expansive reply and the recommendation. I don't expect to ever be a Lancer player, so will definitely give it a read eventually : )
I'm absolutely stuck on making a good extraction map right now.
The last extraction I made was turned into a very strange holdout
So I've got no clue how to make it work
Quick take: descend the canyon to get the shiny at the bottom, then book it back up
Lots of elevation, potential for rocky cover, allows some players to stay at higher ground to cover for folks descending
i think CGP Grey has something to say about these runway numbers
honestly this sounds like one of the few jobs AI would be useful for
damn, how did you make them all so quickly?
dungeon mapster assets for dungeondraft?
Which assets do you mean? I can check which packs they were from.once I'm back at my pc
the foliage is, isnt it?
Iirc all the foliage is either base dungeon draft or 2minute tabletop
i worked on them for two weeks, and i made them in blender so the nature of 3d means most of the time taken is upfront set up and then i can kit bash the assets together to make different maps
Lol, yeah? What’s that?
runway numbers are compass numbers and 180 Degrees from eachother, then with the lagging 0 chopped off to make it two digits
so the runway should either be 09-27 or 06-24
thats so cool!
im half tempted to buy the pack just to see all the details, but alas I have no money
So based on what you’re seeing, what is the magnetic heading of the NE facing runway?
100 and 260 are not reciprocal.
Maybe 100 and 280?
As someone who lives along a mountain road, id kill for this kind of road lol
Looking for a prison map I can run a Search and Rescue sitrep in.
iirc the core book says most of the diaspora lives in what is mostly like contemporary life
not to go down a #lore-and-worldbuilding rabbit hole
Hmm... I pictured it somewhat idfferently myself, but I have no specific examples to defend it. Thanks!
Made a map for the Signal Chase Enhanced Combat Sitrep.
||A 3 hex wide canal in the middle, segments the map. I'm hoping it'll make for interesting traversal whilst chasing the signal that moves randomly. There's also a hex in the bottom right slightly darker to allow you to line up the hexes with your map programme of choice.||
You have cars on their sides
Yep, seemed appropriate for the scenario.
Iirc, they were from a pack I found from this discord a while back. Tyger_purr assets, there's a few with different car models
Abandoned Subway tunnel map! (A bit too small for mech combat) Last session my players followed an SOS into these and got ambushed by a few pipecleaner subalterns. (Thats why the vents are there). Still figured i'd post it here because hey, maybe someone needs a pilot scale map
Oh hey nice
Fascinating!
Could also encourage players to bring size 1/2 mechs to actually get use out of being a man-sized tank
Big bridge/highway map for Gauntlet. Ended up with a ton of cover - it's a bit of a squeeze for Size 3, which we found out the hard way.

Does anyone know how to compress an image down as I tried to revamp a map I made in dungeon draft ages ago but can't due to the file size limit in inkarnate
squoosh is a good free method you can use to compress with little quality loss
Oooh ok thanks 👍
I load images into paint.net (which is also free) and save as the file type then change compression options. Bonus points if I change resolution too
ngl, wallflower roadblock
old blood ocean stage that i made in dungeon draft going to try a more revamped version of it later
man i sure would like to see a starfort gauntlet map
overlapping fire and all that
pretty sure the mood could be set a bit better with like fix master but it looks pretty fine to me
what kind of mood though?
i just kinda mean an overall sense as i don't know what your going for
fair i guess
not exactly sure what to go for with this
maybe i need a few more props
I'm sorry i cant be more specific i literally just woke up
what is it supposed to be if you dont mind me asking ?
a star fort but sci fi
i don't see what you can add aside from maybe a turret , maybe mess with the lighting a bit ?
but personally id say its still a pretty fine map
i don't know any good turret model
id say ask around if you can as sadly i dont know some either
Working on map specifics for this one. Let me know how this sounds.
||-PCs deploy along the top center edge, CZ is the traffic jam in center, have a small group of NPCs start on map along the bottom right edge.
-Reinforcements every round with new deployment zones creeping along the map edges to give feeling of being slowly surrounded.
-Size 4 grain silo in the center is only 20hp, evade 5. When destroyed, it and all adjacent spaces become dangerous terrain (5 burn). 2 rounds after being destroyed it stops being LOS blocker/cover and all in the dangerous terrain must make Agility check or take 8 kinetic damage.
-Vehicles are 5hp, 5 evade. 2 burn to all adjacent when destroyed.||
||Part of the inspiration is seeing that this fight has scourers with melt, so letting that interact more and possibly incentivize shooting them before the set piece avenger boss||
If you want the players to be concerned with the Melt, it feels like the Silo should survive at least one.
That way they can see it start combusting, and make the choice of if it's more important to stop that, or deal with other threats (Or just get away, I suppose).
The vehicles blowing up seems well and fine though, I guess you could use that as an indicator that the silo could go next, but I would think you'd want to telegraph it harder.
oh dang i thought melt was 10hp, good catch, ill change it to 30hp then. Enough to live 1 melt and then likely take a couple good shots from other npcs once they KO the scourer
yeah, melt goes hard vs objects lol
Hey, what do we thinking about this for a Breach and Clear (an Enhanced Combat sitrep) map?
Quadrant 1 - 4 are left to right!
Oh that is lovely, great separation, plenty of cover, love the vibes and flavour - full marks across the board ❤️🔥
Thankyou! Now I'm just trying to work out what the story is for it haha
Do they have to go through doors?
Also that story seems like "we gotta stop that ship from escaping // be on it"
That was the idea: once they have control of an area the gate opens because of combined signal strength/overwhelming the OpFor's ewarfare rigs/other technobabble explanation
Was thinking of giving them the option of destroying wall sections as well as opening the gates and having the tension of "Yeah, you can just blast through instead of getting control of the quadrant first, but that will mean there's more enemies to follow you through that gap as well"
not sure if that'll throw off the sitrep though tbh
2 City maps! First is an Extraction, second a Gauntlet-Esque sitrep. (in the second one enemies were able to freely deploy anywhere, and reinforcements came via dropship, so no ED/IZ.)
making city maps is harder than i thought >->
there is a lot more details in a city that one needs to check for, and you also would need to see if such terrain would have any gameplay conseqences
yeeep
So true
Oh, normally you don't have to kill everything, afaik. You just have to get to the edge, and then more of the map reveals. Which puts the risk on the playeres if they were pressing forward too fast (i.e. too many foes revealed), vs trying to kill everything but slowing themselves down and not getting to the end quickly enough?
looks amazing
A- thankuuuu <3
i love that first map but also "Barbarossa walk out the deployment challenge impossible mode"
Well, with some DIY, I'm sure the space could be opened up nicely 😛
What are a few walls if you have an Apocalypse Rail on your back.
lmao yeah. I just made the deploy walls size 2 for my group
Extremely peak maps, love the amount of cover about, and they just look superb ❤️🔥
awhujsakfj thank u;;;
lmao true- our group doesnt have a size 3 so i didnt think about that oopsie
What assets are you using for these?
I used inkarnate! They have a bunch of sci fi assets
Battlemap thats technically Wallflower related but is generic enough there's no spoilers:
A dying forest on fire. It looks great if you use some lighting tools to make the fire flicker!
Made a map for my group, figured yall might want it:
freighter which has been boarded by some sort of breaching pod
PCs can deploy at any airlock; I had them do a short fight outside on the "rigging" first
green areas can be control points if you want; in my game they were "life rafts" where crew went in event of danger
it’s pretty basic and kinda fantasy coded but hey, you never know!
KTB hall perhaps 🤔
Yessss...now just gotta think about how to lure my sotw mech students to this ancient crypt 😁😈
Is there like an supply train map out there?
nice, this looks like it could be a great map with a few makeshift barricades
Quite fun extraction map I ran in my session this week, for a tech heavy comp.
(the bridges between some of the buildings are overhangs)
I love the handdrawn style, plenty of ways to break cover too - very cool c:
Would love to see what this looks like after you have done all your foundry lighting magic like the truck next to the lava and the train one they were both awesome
We stopped the session mid combat so its kind of a mess lol
not as dramatic as the others. mainly it's just some flickering lighting for the burning buildings, and particle effects for the snow, embers and smoke
I used little glows to indicate control of the pylons, which works pretty well (red for OPFOR, different colours for PCs)
Does anyone have any maps they've used for a Metavault?
i believe there's a freebies pack on itch that has some meta vault maps
Unfortunately that's not what a metavault is lol
no i meant meta vault auto correct just screwed me over on this one
Haha, tracks
Sorry to bug days later, can you link me the pack?
cant double check for sure ( at work )but judging by the art style this seems like the one
do let me know if you end up finding it or not
out of curiosity, how much would you charge for an inkarnate map?
any of you have any input?
Anyone specific or in general?
A person wants to get a commission from me. I have never done a commission, but I can make this in inkarnate
I dont want to gouge them, but I want to be paid
it took me around 4-6 hours to make this not counting planning and finishing touches
How much is your time worth?
idk how to gauge that
Honestly, you might get a better gauge on it in #the-gallery
Artists there will have more to say about how much your worth is as an artist
And inkarnate is art, just in a different medium afterall
@quaint flame You mind a map of yours getting (potentially) featured in an article on the Foundry page?
Sure
Thanks, not sure if anyone else sent in any screenshots.
They said they needed it yesterday, but timezones are weird. 😄
What's the article?
A year in review thing they wanted to feature Lancer in. I don't know much more then that. Here's the start of the discussion: #lancer-vtt message
back in the map zone
Nice
Did anyone ever make a map using starcraft 1 assets? 🤔
Starcraft assets would be pretty fun! I've definitely seen people do isometric maps (mostly in the Wallflower thread), so there's precedent for it
I dont see that thread on the #1211729728226988042 ?
its gonna be in here most likely #wallflower-spoilers
Very good destroyed more modern stuff
Two maps I really like. One has a bunch fo destroyed androids, but they look a lot like dead bodies so it is censored.
A bit more fantasy than usual but its large and interesting
Hiya, don't suppose anyone has a good battle map for a road near a cliff - preferably near a city? I'm not much of an artist and the scenario for the combat changed with pretty short notice.
I got a map that is ‘path near a cliff’ coded but it designed as a scrolling map and isn’t much of a road
More dirt path with nothing on it. Could fill in your own cover easy enough
I want to say NHPChaka had a cliff based map done early on in Inkarnate, might be in the compendium, let me check.
And jeez I knew Shaka made a lot of cool maps but there are so many! 😄
Is there any good maps for combat in farmland available?
Thank you so much, I ended up actually using a combination of maps - but one of them was the first one you linked.
Searching for farms on r/battlemaps will yield you a ton of results, but I did make a farm map once
Lemme go get it
#1216805351488356353 message
Hmmmm
Its a huge map that would probably go super hard for mechs at a slightly different scale
That’s like 9 maps in one, hell yeah
Yeah its damned large and looks like a lot of fun terrain
was exploring CzePeku maps again and found this:
https://www.czepeku.com/scifi/maps/intergalactic-museum
very fun looking map
Love fantasy stuff thats just generic enough you can get away with a but of narrative flavor
How's this looking as a "Protect the Engineers" (Escort sitrep) from Wallflower? I'm thinking I maybe need more "wet ground" (read: difficult terrain) to sell it as a muddy landing bowl area
(this is so low rez cuz i took the screenshot on my laptop instead of saving the image, sorry)
Looks good, yeah more muddy patches off the path could be good
This map rules and you should let players light the forests on fire
Some added color to let the PCs identify what is soft cover and what is just grass at a glance would be nice. The trees and bushes are blending together here and there
Oh yeah, I do my cover layouts later when I run it in Owlbear, like this:
I was thinking wrt the two routes: would it make sense to incentivise the longer north route via the road by making the shorter "offroad" route have more diff terrain?
I'm sort of worried about the road route having not enough cover too, but I can deffo add more
Sketching out a salvage yard recon map, the idea is the gray stuff is cover being chewed through by breachers in the opfor. Open to any thoughts on this because this one is going through a lot of iterations
Could be fun to have some hazardous waste as dangerous terrain or barrels filled with explosives/acid/etc
Hm yeah explosive barrels would be good for this one
I don’t want to get super complicated with this map since I’m dealing with destructible objects and gotta logistics that out with foundry tiles
I just whack a crater hex/token over the top of destroyed terrain
That is… probably the easier way to do it lol I don’t know what I was thinkin
I put a squiggle with a drawing tool lol
Shilling for CzePeku again
https://www.czepeku.com/scifi/maps/crash-site-repair-camp?v=empty
Ok
Hell yeah
`da objecks
I should totally be drawing my battlemaps, seems like lots of fun
Strange request and i am sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but does anyone have any good train maps? Or if possible, any train assets for a multi-rail combat?
i imagine train assets are not exactly common but i wouldn't know
ooh i wish i remembered who did this, but I remember someone posting a scrolling background top-of-train train battle on here a few months ago
From @quaint flame iirc?
#1216805351488356353 message
oooooh, thats a good map. Nearly exactly what i want
If only i had the seperate files for the train cars, and background, but it'll do
Praise be Al (D/D 288 Enjoyer)!
https://lmplo.itch.io/in-golden-flame-act-1-unofficial-map-pack
If you download this go to mission 2, getting railroaded it has the background and train cars separated so it can be animated
ah, thank you good sir!
Not sir
Np, enjoy map
Finished up my first two maps for Wallflower (which I will run one day)!
Need some overlays for Height, soft cover, difficult terrain, zones, etc, but I usually put those in once my map's in Owlbear.
Anyone know some good maps for a pretty standard extraction sitrep?
a
Oo
These look good
I've been musing to revisit the maps I did for the first mission
Looking for anything specific theme wise? I have plenty of maps I could toss out.
Preferably something with a dark city vibe. I've got something now but it's not perfect. I've found some decent maps but they already have hexes drawn on and they don't necessarily line up with my grid, making it really awkward to do anything with
Might get some use out of any of these?
anyone got some arid battlemaps? Im doing a mercenary focused campaign and the first mission is on an arid region
Kaffeezombie also has a bunch. This is their itch.io page: https://kaffeezombie.itch.io/lancer-rpg-battlemaps
Though the actual desert maps might be in the google drive:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zw2UoA3dA_bFH2AbK0c1rhtd7VLLnQFs
Third Wallflower map! (+ extended bridge to overlay for if the players extend it - should cover over the "open" bridge on the map)
Is there any map that can be used for the HA Corvette Job one-shot ?
The original map looks like this
Does anyone have space station maps with narrow corridors
Oh oh I have some!
One is an entire 'floor plan'
The other is only a reactor room and a single cooridor but it comes with a LL12 one shot!
Thx
Anyone has a cool website/app to do battlemaps for Lancer?
Mostly like modern/Sci-fi batlemaps
Can't speak on behalf of other software because I havent used them, but Inkarnates great.
Pros and cons:
Pros:
- Great assets
- lots of freedom
- can make beautiful masterpieces
Cons: - pricey, premium is very worth it but costs money
- Doesn't really hold your hand
- tricky to align with hexes (i made a template people can use to counteract this)
That's a decent amount for some peeps
Yee I just thought it would be a solide 75$
i also like Inkarnate they are developing more sci-fi assets right now too
That's good news
hey speaking of sci-fi map assets https://icelevel.itch.io/lancer-map-assets
Yeah, you can also upload your own assets to Inkarnate on the paid version (not sure about the free)
CzePeku is giving away some free maps and token for Free RPG day.
A goodie bag of hand-drawn maps, scenes, and tokens for your tabletop roleplaying games.
(Including one of their Lancer token packs)
Anyone have any good maps for a combat in a train station?
@viscid plover What program do you use for mapmaking?
Inkarnate! I splurged on one year of the pro account, but even the free version is pretty good!
Ok I was debating between dungeondraft and inkarnate
Inkarnate really has more built in assets though
I've never used Dungeondraft before, but I've found Inkarnate great so far
I'm not sure if you can upload your own assets on the free version, but you can on the paid definitely
(of Inkarnate, I mean)
poking in to say the tokens and maps are absolutely amazing in this deal. There are a lot of free tokens by the same people here (including some of the ones included in the bundle) and it seems you can customize these tokens by subscribing to their premium service
The blue glow rocks are fun!
Since it's an extraction map that's how I visualise the thing
The rocks acts as.... A magnetic field between them making mouvement harder, so difficult terrain
Cliffs are at H1, so if you are on the road you could use the cliff as a cover. But get surrounded and you are here for a hell of a time
I made another map but it's similar to one made by Kaffeezombie so, I'll keep it to myself!
Or I could....
My take on Desert Saltheight made by Kaffeezombie
Pic 1 is Kaffeezombie's, Pic 2 is mine!
The other two I sent above are also inspired by their work but I tried to have a different take on it, but I really like the layout of that one!
Cave Holdout
Are there any map tiles assets to depict rubble, destroyed vehicles or even trenches due to the ground getting blown up?
like in a specific map making program, or just generally?
I was about to post this anyway for feedback (it's a Wallflower map - Combat 4, Holdout Sitrep)
If it helps and cuz it's at the front of my mind, this is what I've done to make craters in Inkarnate in this map:
it's a "dirt hill" made a little bit transparent overlaid on darker dirt, with some bits of rocks scattered around if that helps at all?
Just generally since I don't have inkarnate
Ah, do you generally draw them out and put assets into a photo manipulation/drawing program? Also, are you looking for more cartoony, realistic style?
Kinda yeah
As of now I don't really have a lot of bits of blown up terrain that I can use in my games.
Like I thought I'd just add it over the the area/piece of cover that got blow up.
Hm, for stuff like destroyed buildings, I've mostly just been doing stuff like this (also helps that the destroyed part is hidden by the fire and smoke):
If you have any un-destroyed assets, maybe something like that method could work to make like...overlaid damage, depending on what you're doing
or double a car asset up, set them slightly apart and do a similar thing like this (but better: this was a quick and nasty way of doin it and looks kinda shit):
or similarly, something like this if you want a sort of "crushed" vehicle:
I use the craters and stuff from the Interpoint map assets pack for placing over destroyed terrain, and it also has some 'rubble' tokens I use for created cover, like Zheng's ability, bombard, barricade, etc.
https://interpoint-station.itch.io/lancer-rpg-pixel-art-maps-assets
This is so cool! Thanks for the tips! What do you use to for photo editing/drawing btw?
I had no idea this stuff was there 😭
oh, those two I just did on an annoying app on my phone that sends me 2000 ads or tries me to get it to sign up for its shitty paid AI tools every time i open it lmao (PhotoDirector)
but it is otherwise free! If I was on my PC I'd just use GIMP
So many times I'll start doodling on the map owlbear after the cover has been blown up (when it's not my GM turn I get quite a bit of time lol)
Understood 🫡
Currently my experience lmao. The ads and the constant interruptions really slow down the process and make me procrastinate often. Trying to find something easy to use that doesn't require too much learning can be a bit of a challenge as I struggle to focus and be patient.
Oh, I mean also doing it on a phone is just not ideal cuz of how small the screen is/lack of control for me
Only feedback I can really give is that it looks absolutely gorgeous.
An insane idea, but six maps for each subsequent round of a combat designed around atmospheric entry onto a planet. Clouds are soft cover zones, rocks/meterorites in the first round are hard cover.
Didn't put much detail into each map as they're only going to be seen for 1 round each 😅
The last map i'm working on is really hard to have a good render
But i'm sure when it will be done it will be great
Holy based this was so fricking cool! I'd love to know what the story behind this combat encounter is!
Once again posting fantasy stuff in case it serves a purpose
22x32 dungeon combat...
"""sitrep""": find the treasure room and escape
it's wild to think about how most GMs prep a battlemap big enough to hold an entire DND dungeon
The forbidden tip is to cut only the part of the map you actually think are relevant for what you want to do
Underground Ship
Forgot to reply to this yesterday haha. But basically the group were on a low-orbit battle the combat before, and are pulled into the gravity of the planet. I homebrewed a few systems to give them to reduce the chances of burning up in atmosphere. A lot of inspiration from gundam was taken
Trying to find a battlemap of like a big city where the areas are between skyscrapers
Highway bridge fight
I will make more maps that I think would fit an Action Movie
I might later do a bundle for free on Ichio
With Cracks
Feel free to use them for your games
And if I can take some of your time dm me how it went!!
Hold up, am I doing it wrong? 😭
up to you, I'm just remarking on how dungeon maps can apparently fit in 22x32 and many common Lancer maps are like, 35x21
I am pretty darn bad at making small maps, admittedly. I've been running ICON lately too, and pulling it further down into a 8x8 map is just.. woof.
Nightmarefuel for me.
1 map for 1 fight (lancer) vs. 1 map for 8 "encounters" (D&D/PF2E/Old-School, doesn't need to be combat encounter)
Most osr dungeon maps are at 10 ft scale, so you're using it more as an abstracted map than a battle map
Yeah true, the difference in prepared space is just fascinating to me
Or rather difference in how the space is used
Can someone recommend good maps built for hexes but without drawn grid on them?
Preferably something like a tunnel or inside of a building
if a map is made for a specific grid (“built for hexes”) i would expect it to come with it, because things will be positioned with said grid in mind (e.g. you’ll confine cover to grid cells) and those assumptions will break if you position your grid in a different way than intended, e.g. half a cell off in a direction. that said, some people offer both gridded and gridless versions of a map.
unless i misunderstand what you mean by “built for hexes” which is entirely possible
You made me realise that I should try to put my map on Foundry to see if they work
