#SOAR: Shirtless on a Rooftop

Clearly the solution to the nipples thing is just
No one gets nipples
It’s just smooth
No explanation
But it IS in the book as a rule that you can’t have nipples
Oh shit I just noticed the scars on this guy's design, niiiiice!
yee
hey if you're curious about what was essentially proto SOAR check out Violent Dance
You then go back to 0 in that turmoil value, and add +1 for each time you went overboard in that specific value to see where it starts again.
If this causes you to need to go to +4, you permanently stay at +4 in that turmoil, but lose the other value forever, you have made your choice of where you stand in the world.```
here
i've just added this
Sick! That sounds cool
Well
i'll say this
Infinite Wealth sure is making it hard to get away from designing for SOAR a bit more
lmao
You gotta finish it before Sega completes Yakuza's transition into JRPGs with some game called Like A Dragon: Tactics or something
livin in the city
Are you interested in line edits for feedback right now or are you more interested in macro level feedback? Because I cleaned up the prose/text on Gunsong with a fine toothed comb a couple times but I didn't wanna do so unwarranted here
what do you mean line edits ?
Editing/correcting prose/diction/grammar
(Apologies for the 15 minute wait, I'm at work)
I think i'll have to wait on that offer
I already have someone who offered to do editing
and i'd like to wait until this is in a much more final state than it is right now to do it
appreciate the offer tho !
Okay yeah for sure! Just realized I had no idea what kind of feedback you were looking for!
Editing stuff is a bit of a tough one
you can tell me if something is better in a different place in your opinion and whatnot
or if something is unclear
I just don't want you to do editing work if that makes sense
cause like I wanna make sure I pay whoever ends up doing that properly cause its like, a job
Considering making a discord server for SOAR
you gotta come up with a funny name
Embodying The City
How to GM Shirtlessly
on A Rooftop
lmao
mon dieu

(in the middle of a dnd game atm)
Homerun: whenever the Homerunner targets someone with 3 strikes, they trigger all "Out!:" effects of their abilities, and clear all strikes from their target
Mmmh
Workshopping some unique bosses to try and make the game more varied
"When all you have is a bat, every head looks like a baseball"
so true!
Maybe a Pressure Points Guy?
Conventional RPG "support abilities" like healing or clearing statuses is very clearly a design space you're deliberately staying away from, but have you considered making that into a boss?
Is it the case that healers and buffers aren't really your jam for this game tho?
Absolutely
Feedback i've got told me people wanted somewhat more teamplay moves
which i'm looking at
Being able to work super well with your buddies is cool
A character cannot have more than 3 Strikes.
If a character spends a turn without attacking, they clear all strikes, this is called “Going to the bench”.
Additionally, some of the Homerunner abilities have an “Out!:” effect, these are only triggered when a character is targeted by abilities with said effect.
After an ability that triggered an “Out!:” effect is resolved, the target clears all Strikes.```
Homerunner's central trait
and yes, clearing the strikes needs to be named
as a thing
Some stuff will refer to it
this is already looking to be much more specific than the Underworld legend
We'll see if this different focus will help make it more thematic
Underworld Legend was me attempting to work basically 3 distinct phases around the concept of a crescendo bar
this is going to be me trying to make a stronger unified mechanic with phases that interact with it differently
Looking forward to teamwork actions
I have a consideration
Of giving, if not each specific type style then at least each stance, a specific move that can be done as a reaction to being pushed or dragged into an ally. Like I dragged my ally once onto high ground, which was cool
That’s probably not going to be a thing sorry, I’m trying my beat to avoid stuff happening out of turns
To clarify
I also had time to consider it for a while after i got some playtest data and my concern i also wanna avoid is people just colliding someone between themselves
fair fair
Reactions are probably another thing that may work as a gimmick for one single Boss
There are some "reaction" stuff that i've toyed with
and some that are actually in the game
but yeah
My main goal with how stuff is turning out right now is that i've tried to take everything that causes me some issues in tactical games
and see what happens without them
so if you ever wondered why there aren't a lot of reactions or stuff that straight up negates actions as reactions, that's why
If you want something that's SOAR adjacent
Anime wise
I recommend you check out megalobox
(I posted this thread earlier)
my friend would really appreciate that sentiment. one of these days they will drag me into a megalobox watch party kicking and screaming-
We're getting ready to commission more folks down the line if all goes well
I got a sick piece in mind for the newly renamed "Kinetic Combat" chapter
which will be where we outline Kinetic Transfer and whatnot
Taking some inspiration from the way Manwha do page compositions
Some pages from Burning Effect for reference about what I mean
hell yeah
Oh that’s sick
funky

they should all be in v0.4
silly idea: making a couple of subsystems entirely for minigames, just a bunch of quick board game-esque systems for bowling, kart racing, etc.
Doesn't seem to be public, I think
New art that's gonna be in the next version of SOAR from Sky Crimes

that is indeed the fire style
i'm so smart
She wearing a jo jo cap
Interior tiger print whips
How easy is it to manage buying art in a product for resale at the indie tier you're working at? Is there any complex paperwork I have to worry about for it or anything like that?
My experience in textbook publication also tells me there's a markup but I don't see many commission pages note that rate down.
honestly I have not thought about it
I just ask artists if they want more cash on top of the usual price for the art
they tell me how much they want for it
So for now, no paperwork involved
if I ever do get a crowdfunding for this in any shape or form, i'll def have part of it go to paying the artists more
for work they've already done
and maybe more
For now I don't think about it tho

Pistol Boss dynamic intro
Probably stone style i feel
Dragon style is kinda defined more by being an impenetrable wall then anything
Like even ignoring tiger drop it just generally is a heavy style with a lot of deliberate strikes
What are dragons but stone fires?
Honestly true
Also yah Kiryu is one of those characters that kinda needs to be envisioned as a high level character
So the probably correct answer is both
And water too
He kicks a good few times
Okay i'm cooking with the Homerunner legend
i think
I'm trying to design this one so the first phase introduces the concept of Strikes
the second phase introduces the concept of Baseballs (they're fun little objects)
and the third phase uses a mix of phase 1 and 2
Request by @dunyakat for their project S.O.A.R.!
Check their project out here https://t.co/3qbH1TWWoN
here, official post for it
Hey also
lets see if this works
It doesn't
okay
“When all you have is a bat, every head looks like a baseball”
Slugger: Some homerunner abilities inflict a bespoke status, “Strike”, When a character has no Strikes and is inflicted one, they go to Strike 1, if they take another one then, they go to Strike 2 and so on.
A character cannot have more than 3 Strikes.
If a character spends a turn without attacking, they clear all strikes, this is called “Benching”, and it is the only way to clear Strikes outside of ending the fight.
Additionally, some of the Homerunner abilities have an “Out!:” effect, these are only triggered when a character is targeted by abilities with said effect if they have 3 strikes.
An ability that has an Out!: effect that targets multiple characters only triggers these effects on targets with 3 strikes.
After an ability that triggered an “Out!:” effect is resolved, the target clears all Strikes.
Overture: Hitter
Dynamic Entrance: Bag of baseballs locked tight, cap put on tight, if a little to the side, chewing gum, they’re not taking you seriously.
They swing their bat, aim it at the group of players, and get in a hitter stance.
Harm: 8 x Players
Stress: 6
Defense: 4
Speed: 4
Rusty but still skilled: If the Homerunner causes a Kinetic Transfer or a collide, their target takes damage equal to the amount of Strikes they have, then they take 1 Strike after the ability has resolved.
Bat Swing (Melee, Range 2, Brutal)
Gains Accurate 1 for each Strike the target has.
No Hit:
Target is pushed 1
Weak Hit:
Target takes 2 damage
You move 1
Target is pushed 2
Normal Hit:
Target takes 3 damage
You move 1
Target is pushed 3
Strong Hit:
Target takes 4 damage
You move 2
Target is pushed 4
Critical Hit:
Target takes 6 damage
You move 3
Target is pushed 4
Fastball (Range 4)
Target a foe within range
Target is Pushed 3
Target is Exposed
Out!: Target is Guard Break
Out!: Target takes 3 damage
Target gains 1 strike.
Circular strike (Range 2)
Every foe in range takes 2 damage
Every foe in range is pushed 2
You move 2 (Acrobatic)
Target an adjacent foe
Out!: Target is Dazed and is Dragged 3 by you at the start of their next turn.
Target takes 1 Strike.
Heavenly Curveball (Range 4, Unwieldy)
Target every foe in range
Targets are Dragged 2
Targets are Dazed.
Out!: Targets are Knocked Prone and Exposed
The next attack the Homerunner makes doesn’t have the melee tag and has range 8.```
Dynamic Entrance: They are pushed back by a mighty hit, the bubble from their bubble gum pops.
They spin their bat a bit with one hand, open their baseball bag, and grab a fistfull of baseballs.
They get ready for you, this isn’t a joke to them anymore.
Harm: 7 x Players
Stress: 6
Defense: 6
Speed: 3
Getting into it: Certain abilities can create Baseballs, Baseballs are Brittle Throwable Objects that only the Homerunner can move, not the players.
Instead, players can spend their standard move or a simple action while adjacent to a baseball to Bench.
Players caught in a Kinetic Transfer with a Baseball also take 1 strike.
Swing for the fences (Range 6)
If done at range 4 or above, this attack gains Brutal and Accurate 1
No Hit:
Create 1 baseball next to the target
Weak Hit:
Target takes 1 Damage
Target is Dazed
Target is Exposed
Create 1 baseball next to the target
Normal Hit:
Target takes 2 Damage
Target is Dazed
Target is Exposed
Create 1 baseball next to the target
Strong Hit:
Target takes 3 Damage
Target is Dazed
Target is Exposed
Target is Knocked Prone
Create 2 baseball next to the target
Critical Hit:
Target takes 4 damage
Target is Dazed
Target is Exposed
Target is Knocked Prone
Create 3 Baseballs next to the target
“Knock it out of the park” (Range 2)
Target a foe in range
You may place yourself in any free space at the same exact range of the target.
If there is a Baseball in range 2, you may place it in any space adjacent to your target.
Push the target 4
Out!: Target is Guardbreak and Knocked Prone.
Spinning Swing (Unwieldy)
Create 2 Baseballs in any free adjacent space
Push every adjacent foe 3
Out!: Foe is dragged 3 instead of pushed, and takes 1 bleed.
Curveball (Range 6)
Target a foe in range
Target is Dragged 2
Create a baseball adjacent to the target.
A different foe in range 3 of the Target is Dragged 2
Create a baseball adjacent to that foe.
Out!: Drag 1 every affected character 3 times instead, Daze every affected character.```
Dynamic Entrance: They narrowly avoid a hit by ducking, they’re still grazed by it, their cap flies off.
A drop of blood falls onto their hand from the open wound on their forehead, they smirk and smear it in two lines under their eyes, before reaching for their cap and dramatically turning it to their back.
This is the real deal now.
Harm: 7 x players
Defense: 4
Armor: 1
Speed: 4
Worked the Rust Off:
Certain abilities can create Baseballs, Baseballs are Brittle Throwable Objects that only the Homerunner can move, not the players.
Instead, players can spend their standard move or a simple action while adjacent to a baseball to Bench.
If the Homerunner causes a Kinetic Transfer or a collide, their target takes damage equal to the amount of Strikes they have, then they take 1 Strike after the ability has resolved.
Homerun Swing (Range 2, Melee, Brutal, Accurate 1)
Special: If this pushes a Baseball, it instead Drags it 4.
When targeting, this attack may count as having range 4 and loses the Melee tag instead if there is a Baseball adjacent to the Homerunner, to do this the baseball is automatically destroyed.
No Hit:
You move 1

All foes in range 2 gain +1 strike.
The next attack adds +2 to any Push or Drag and rolls an additional d6 for its profile.
Baserunner Tackle
Move 4 Acrobatic
Foes passed through are dazed and knocked prone
Out!: Foes must spend 3 stress or be Stunned.
Create 1 baseball in a free adjacent space.```
Been working at this legend for a bit
Gonna work on the Weapon Master now
I also have plan for a new Weapon gear
Handcuffs
that one is for players
oh ho
Oh fuck yah

They head makes a noise like an old kettle being thrown down a well
so true
The Master Playbook done

Done the Weapon Master
(the boss npc)
Gonna try and work on the Slasher
what does a Weapon Master fight with
you may ask
well there's the dual crowdbars
of course
a classic
The big metal pipe
and at the end ?

(I am absolutely looking at knowing if someone fighting with a Macuahuitl and an Aztech Shield is like, fine to do btw)
Nice
I had an idea today about a fight taking place on top of a train where you gotta be prone to not get schwacked by a tunnel
That do sound pretty interesting
I was wondering what I was missing
after playing Infinite Wealth
The Ichiban positive quirk
We're getting edgy with it
the final phase of this boss uses a chainsaw and creates fog spaces by targeting you
because the chainsaw is so messy
blood is a kind of fog if u think about it
So true I think
Okay
I think that's the Slasher done
I need to figure out a new name for the final phase tho
What's something that has the same feel as "Final Girl" but without the explicit gender attached
that's a tough one
Lone Survivor?
Nice
nailed it
anyway
soon
Lost Judgment is an action-adventure video game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It was released globally on September 24th, 2021. A sequel to the 2018 game Judgment (a spin-off of the Yakuza series), the game focuses on private detective Takayuki Yagami as he investigates a criminal accused of both sexual harassment and ...
GOD i'm proud of myself here
Me: I think i'm getting close to releasing a new version of SOAR
My silly ass: what about adding in a section for the first session
I will also stop myself before I make something that's too complicated in terms of content to balance
but
my god
i've been considering a Wildcard stance
someone should stop me
a whole stance based around the idea of not having a unifying feature
basically
Current ideas in my head currently include an "airborne" style that's all about using a new status, Airborne, to throw enemies in the air and deal more damage to them if they are also airborne
I floated the idea before of a handcuff weapon, that one might fight there too for example
🗞️
Wildcard can be an expansion or something
right now you should just have a decent whole and polish it
and you've got that, you can polish hard and if you keep adding you'll spread yourself thin
I'll do what I want
You also asked people to stop you 😛
Having a juggle status would also definitely take the game slightly higher in heightened/unrealness
The difference between Yakuza, John Wick, and Sakamoto Days, basically
Okay, so, in the list of things i'm DEF adding
for next version
i'm working on the GM section some more
Making sure the "running the first session of SOAR" bit is good enough for me
then my plan is to feature 3 sample settings
An 80's themed setting
A early 2000's setting
And a 2020 or so setting
Wooo
80's, fighting at the disco
2000's, fighting in the mosh pit
2020's, fighting at the disco moshpit.
first time running any game in years, but I'm doing a oneshot of SOAR in a few hours, wish me luck lol
you planning on using the narrative part of it too?
here, in case you need it
-A failed attempt just gives you the consequences.
-A Weak success gives you either less than you hoped and a consequence or what you hoped and some more consequences than you anticipated.
-A normal success gives you both what you hoped AND a consequence
-A strong or critical success gives you more than hoped and no consequences.
Consequences:
Harm dealt as a consequence is always AP, to prevent specific styles from being necessarily better at taking them.
Minor consequences, for when you need something that’s not quite as harsh as a normal consequence but still has some weight:
-Minor harm (a grazing blow, a low energy kick to the chest): 1 AP harm
-Things get slightly worse (they lose patience, you get put on the spot): Something happens immediately and you have to respond to it, or the next roll faces a consequence that’s one step above what it would otherwise be.
-A clock gets filled: A clock for something bad is either created or an existing one ticks 1 segment.
-They like you a bit less: If someone involved has a relationship clock, tick it down by 1 segment.
Normal Consequences, the most common type of consequences:
-Regular harm (a punch to the chest, a stab in the shoulder): 2 AP harm
-Things get worse (they bring out knives, they directly oppose you): Something dangerous happens immediately and you have to respond to it, or the next roll faces a Major consequence.
-A clock gets filled: A clock for something bad is either created with 2 segments filled or an existing one ticks 2 segments
-They like you less: If someone involved has a relationship clock, tick it down by 2 segments.
-Its a stressful time: You have to mark 1 stress
Major Consequence, these are harsh consequences that are best used sparingly:
-Major harm (a strong punch to the head, being thrown off a moving car): 3 AP harm (or 4 AP harm if it is particularly nasty)
-Things get MUCH worse (they pull out pistols, they yell at you, a car is pulling over with men in black coming out of it): Something VERY dangerous happens immediately and you have to respond to it.
-A clock gets filled: A clock for something bad is either created with 3 segments filled or an existing one ticks 3 segments, if it is especially bad fill 4 segments instead.
-They frankly hated that: If someone involved has a relationship clock, tick it down by 3 segments (or 4 if it makes sense).
-You are stressing out: You have to mark 2 stress (or 3 if it is very stressful).```
realized it wasn't really well explained in the current version when it comes to failing a check in narrative
I've been at work on SOAR for a bit, so if you thought I'd only release content for the BRAWL: Kinetic Combat side of things, don't worry, i'm also working on some new playbooks which hopefully help round up the roster that I find currently a bit lacking
Some news about SOAR
The Master is focused on being someone who teaches how to fight, and who puts a lot of value on results above all
The Facade is all about living two lives, one popular life and the other not so much, its basically the Vtuber/Host playbook
yeah man
Weeping in the middle of a fistfight like that guy in Redline
Or that other guy in the new chapter of Kagurabachi actually
holy shit is that a
yeah it is
SOAR reference
:o

The idea of a character like that being a Disruptor like a tech startup is enormously funny
Oh yeah I guessed by the Vast Oceanic Soul
If there was a tech mogul whose parasocial videos speaking into the camera about their new gig app or whatever had the energy of Harry's fucked up weeping polemics I'd be onboard 100%
it is not a tech bro playbook I will tell that much
I have been thinking about a playbook that's about managing a group of folks
but that is a hard one to make
because I would need to specifically make it so the group cannot be a part of Brawls
or else figure out how to do that without breaking the game
(cause I figure most folks will see "wow you lead a group" and immediatielly think "wow I want to bring them in to fight")
We're currently sitting at 8 playbooks btw
which i'm happy about
Boss having an establishment and someone else having Staff is very interesting and I really like the idea of being a like, shift manager, or office boss, and being the sole combatant in your crew.
I think maybe just make it part of the point of the class, that as their boss all actual risks fall to you, and to violate this rule is to lose all trust these guys have in you
Staff can be hurt and kidnapped but you don't bring them to Brawls as muscle, if that makes sense
I also want to throw out the trope of 'your goons can fight regular people OK, but collapse like wet paper in front of anyone serious'
To let you say, cordon off areas and threaten paper pushers and stuff?
special ability: whenever a foe does a Dramatic Entrance, it also includes them absolutely bodying one or two people from your gang
yeah pretty much
That fucking whips
There was some game where every PC had a squad of mooks surrounding them, and you could have them take hits to nullify damage and die, but if you named them in that moment their chances of survival would shoot up to 50%
So the Scarred is looking to be meaty mechanics wise
I'm curious to see what people will think of it
Tempted to give it something unique as far as values go
fuck it
mmmh nevermind
doesn't fit
been toying with the idea of getting some interpersonal drama baked in this game by giving the Scarred values from 2 other playbooks
but I think that would be difficult
and that's the Scarred done
10 years in the joint made you scarred
Figured it would be a nice tease
You have a lot of Scars, Scars aren’t necessarily physical in nature, it is all about the mark they leave, and how you interact with them.
Whenever you are defeated in a Brawl, whenever you or a nearby ally fails an Attempt, you may declare you are taking a Scar instead.
You may only do this once per Brawl if it is used in one.
When used in a Brawl, you dramatically stand back up and set your Harm to 6 after the ability has resolved.
If used on a failed Attempt, it makes it count as a successful attempt and proceeds otherwise normally.
Name your Scar, describe it and how it affects you.
A Scar is a 4 segment clock starting at 0.
Whenever a Scar would be relevant to an action you attempt, take -1 on the Attempt and -1 on the Success, if it's a success mark 1 segment, if it is a failure and you take it (it isn’t negated by taking a Scar or something else), you instead mark 2 segments.
When a Scar would be relevant to a roll you are making, instead of taking a penalty on the attempt and success, you may decide to push through, before you roll spend 2 filled segments from your Scar and instead gain +1 on the Attempt and the Success roll.
You can open up about your Scar to someone you trust, it has to be done in some form of privacy, when you do, spend 1 Stress and mark 2 segments on the relevant Scar.
Whenever you have a day or two of free time and you have filled in Scar clocks, you must choose.
-Keep them on your back: Spend 2 stress and keep them, they weigh heavy on you.
-Move On: Recover 2 stress and 2 harm and remove them, your head is clearer for now.
You can only have a maximum of 3 Scars at a time, if you do not have room for a Scar you cannot elect to take one.
Additionally, you have a Defining Scar, a more permanent one, name it and explain what it is, then set a 6 segment clock with 0 segments filled.
It doesn’t impose penalties on rolls and cannot be pushed through, it cannot be moved on, it doesn’t cost stress to keep it on your back either.
Instead, at the end of the session, mark 1 segment, and an additional one for each that is true:
-You Moved On from a Scar
-You pushed through a Scar
-You got a new Scar
When it is filled, the scar comes knocking, choose 1:
-Spend 4 Stress
-Spend 6 Wealth
-Take 6 harm
If someone is present to help you go through this when your Defining Scar comes knocking, halve these values and you both have to pay the cost```
the Scarred feature
I have also retooled the Master playbook feature because it was, and I will be mean to myself here, mid
you have students now and you have to teach them

wow. whats this. stuff to fling around and interact with in SOAR
Ruby has been cooking on these
Gonna whang someone upside the head with a grave stone
That's why it's a headstone, silly -
couch guy couch guy
Oh hell yah big couch guy
Big couch guy was the only dude left standing after a fight we had before
we made him sit down and think about his life
If I get hit with that couch, I'll be left in a full body cast. Almost like a-
My guy got hit with a couch but also some of our folk got shot a lot because people had guns in our test game
So like a small couch to the face wasn't the worst thing that game
My oneshot went well, had a classic Yakuza-style two baddasses storming the building.
One player was an elf lady Suit who used to be an assassin but now works as a pet store owner, used 2H Wanderer, Gun Hitman & Madman, the other was a grumpy badger woman Boss who owns the wharf for smuggling purposes, used Fire Style Fists and 2H Meteor with an anchor on a rope.
We did a bit of learning as we played, had a bunch of cool moments of smashing someone through a glass wall or down some stairs or into other dudes, managed to squeeze the Shop system in via a mid-tower vending machine with energy drinks and soup etc.
Had a miniboss in the form of an orcish Aerialist office lady, a lot of the fight took place on the high ground of a dining table built for minotaur-sized people and it was pretty rad when the badger threw a giant onion ring at her to start the fight lol, the fight ended with the former hitman totally icing her with a shot through the heart.
The final boss was her sister, a half-orc with a prosthetic arm. I had the first two phases go in reverse, she started off doing wing chun-esque Snake Stance pushing and pulling the duo around. In the second phase she went into a rage with Bajiquan-inspired Tiger Stance as her prosthetic arm fell off, all the stomps and step-ins made shockwaves and it was brutal and fun.
The players threw her arm across the arena, so as they were fighting she was launching them around and into each-other, she managed to get right to where they threw the arm as the Suit brought her sword down on the last of her 2nd phase hp, she snapped the arm back on and caught the blade, still enraged and the final phase begins.
The final phase was brutal, there were many attacks countered by her just headbutting the player's attacks. The final round was so clutch, even though the Suit dodged the hit the Reliable style damage took her unconscious, the boss and the final boss each had 4hp, but the final boss just had her turn punching the suit, so the badger threw down her anchor and came swinging, made the perfect turn of positioning, pushing and damage, sent her flying with her punches and helped the Suit back up, Suit shot her dead and then they saved the mayor's daughter from the giant fishtank and got a huge payout from the mayor.
It was my first time in forever running something, but the players had a ton of fun and I had a ton of fun, both coming up with characters and their stories and playing the rad combat.
Funny stair hours
You good if I ask you how it went in a bit more detail?
Like, any rule that was especially confusing? Anything you got wrong?
Initiative was a bit confusing, we struggled to figure out how to rule what to do if there's players and more than 2 enemies, and if there's only one enemy (the big bad)
Also, the player who was the Boss with the Meteor Style is a DM and game dev, she was loving how many statuses and pushing-pulling thing she could do with the style but the really short range and small movement speed combined with the focus on positioning made it seem like it was lacking something along the lines of a Sweet Spot mechanic similar to the Spear Guy enemy.
That's her notes on that Style.
I dunno if I had this before, but I think this should cover it
is there a reason why it says that all the beetle style abilities are illegal in baseball...
does this mean... baseball minigame...
I'm sure you could actually make a baseball game. I have to get a feel for the Roleplay aspects a bit more but a fight in a baseball stadium might be pretty fun to do. Or a batting cage.
This has been something i've been considering not for baseball but just in general
but i need to figure out how
I just thought it was funny to have the "baseball fan style" be full of moves illegal in baseball
They're a bigger fan of doing illegal things
I also liked to use actual baseball terms and say these moves were an illegal spin on it
exactly
- mark an area. throw dice at it
- opponent throws dice at your dice to try and knock it away
- hey wait this is an existing game.
also impossible online
Lmao
I'll probably figure out something soon
new devlog
Heck yeah. One of the things I like about SOAR is that majority of the fights aren't actually going to get you killed
Beating people up and shaming them is almost more important than killing someone because killing someone is going to majorly fuck shit up
wait the pitcher dodges?????? damn, scene ruined
we never knew
I do not know the full scene so I choose to believe it wad an intentional miss as a warning shot
true
Sharing these thoughts here too
Been giving some thoughts for maybe potential SOAR stuff I could add that might help SOAR abilities more distinct and unique:
Pull X: Same as Push X but instead of directly away from the user, it is directly towards the user, in a straight line.
Block X: Act like Harm but takes damage before it, does not stack with itself, armor still applies to it.
Additionally i've been thinking about adding this condition:
Off Balance: Whenever you damage an Off Balance foe, you may consume the condition, removing it, to either Drag them 2 or Knock them Prone after the ability has resolved
And i've been thinking about changing Hemorrhage to read
Hemorrhage X: Same as bleed, but instead take X damage at the start of your turn of your turn, then clear all Hemorrhage. Character cannot be inflicted with Bleed as long as Hemorrhage is on them. Can’t damage someone past their last harm, ignores armor.
Hemorrhage sounds so bursty it would be super cool

Is roll20 probably the best way to run the game online?
Honestly thus far I only tried foundry
but this could work in roll20 I think
there's little to actually track
As long as your VTT uses clocks you'll be fine
oh ok
is there a specific number for starting wealth?
yeah its 2
cool
One suggestion for a collide object would be “painful collide” like rose bushes, a hot stovetop, a collection of knives in a rack, a worrying collection of chemicals.
Either way. Just “hurts more than a regular wall does”
Bleed is probably more interestingZ
i sorta wanna avoid damage collide that are static spaces because i've had bad experience with Icon doing that for an edition
and it just lead people to basically monofocus on one piece of terrain
Is that why windows break after a collide?
yeah
also because its a fun image
Its also why objects move with people
its added damage if you play your cards right, but it also means stuff is moving on the map
So someone I got into the game has an idea for a character
Basically an Amon clan member
Being from a family of assassins who plans to take over the family by proving their dominance in combat
Lmao i have a player just like this in my biweekly game rn
Ayyy nice
I don't wanna link this guy's videos because irl fighting is fuckin gnarly but I found a guy on tiktok who's like an irl Majima Everywhere System. He rolls around dangerous neighborhoods in south LA and when he sees people fighting he'll pull over and walk up and say something like "hey let me get some a that!"
The fights that follow fuckin suck and aren't great to watch but everything before is hilarious
Everybody talks about how The Raid is a foundational modern action movie. Nobody talks about the scene where the main character Gets that guy in the thigh with a knife
I super prefer Jackie
I feel like I hear about that knife scene a lot
Like I’ve never watched the Raid but I know that knife scene
First i am hearingn anyone talk of it
BAD INJURIES: ||Stab in mid thigh, drag down to the knee, you see the guy's pants fold where his kneecap detaches from his leg and touches the inside of his jeans||. Maybe 3 seconds before the cut but I shrieked
Also posting it here
hey check it out

"Maximum volume but otherwise calm speech" is always funny for me
I want that wrap now
we're doin good things in eld's game
High power industrial strength yaoi do not attempt performed by professionals

On god this is the mall just outside the city
For a dead rising style mall game
..... that sounds fun actually
I'm doing mapping and having some trouble.
-what is the marked side of Main Street supposed to represent? How is it intended to fit nearby tiles? Is this for the edge of the city? My best guess is that it's meant to produce thin 'side streets' when placed like the image.
-honestly similar question but for the plaza tile
alright, got a map I'm pretty satisfied with
Oh! In the book it's meant to represent an edge you don't connect to other tiles, since that tile is (i think) supposed to represent turning off from a highway or bigger road into the lil district
But! You've made a lovely map anyway
Here you could use it to represent dangerous area, like known gang owned streets
prepping for a soar campaign by looking up lists of hobbies and fads from the 1960s
Love these

Chat are they aware
Finally read the rules for I'm Sorry Did You Say Street Magic. I think that'd be a damn fine game to use to setting-gen a SOAR game. Unlike Microscope and Quiet Year and Deep Forest it feels much more interested in the actual locstion
No clocks or oracle either
That post eventually manifested into an unhinged SOAR campaign pitch: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRwDUF8m/
making pregens (and my own character sheet!) for my campaign in case my players want to jump in without much chargen
the nice thing about it is that BRAWL and SLICE are on different pages so people can mix-and-match pregen stuff
downsides: the Scarred main feature is super long, I can barely fit it in one half-page ;_; (edit: but I made it!)
the vertical spacing of abilities adds clarity in digital but is definitely an issue when I'm trying to fit things on one or two pages- I'm definitely finding myself having to combine lines for brevity, especially when there's certain Weapons that are much, much longer than others
also, Fire Style's Ignition Spark gives 1 Fever every start-of-turn, not just yours, correct?
also made a reference doc
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mMoeQ3pnicT0sxF9Ak6clpXyz80MRr0bynApcfEgciM/edit?usp=drivesdk
its intended to just be yours lol
ohhh
otherwise it would be quite crazy
okay gotcha
that'd be a lot of fever
make sure to take some medicine if you have that much fever

new guy for the next version of SOAR
yeehaw
no that's the Rascal
Coin Tosser: The Rascal can toss coins in the air, Coins take up 1 space and character may move through them, players can spend their standard move to destroy all adjacent coins, which removes them from the field, this is the only way players can interact with said coins.
Some of the Rascal abilities list a Coin Consume trigger, requiring a coin to be destroyed.
Only 4 Coins can exist at a time, if more are added on the field and there are already 4 coins, destroy already present coins until new coins can be added.
ULTRAKILL GAMING
a new elite
Bullet Dancer
“Wanna dance partner?”
Dynamic Entrance: A burst of bullets forces you to take cover, it is never ending, like a storm.
Eventually, the bullets stop, the lingering noise of bullet casings hitting the ground rings in your ears still.
But its not over, you’re on the dance floor tonight, and you can’t let them dictate the tempo.
Harm: 20
Stress: 6
Defense: 4
Speed: 3
Every other Beat: The Bullet Dancer places Delayed AOEs, Delayed AOE only do their effects at the start of the Bullet Dancer’s next turn, and cannot overlap with one another, before they go off, characters need to spend 2 Stress to voluntarily ENTER these AOE (a character within them can move normally in them).
Unusual: A Bullet Dancer cannot be a Featured foes, but count as 3 Points instead of 2.
SMG Burst (Range 3, Brutal)
No Hit:
Target takes 1 Damage
Weak Hit (1-2):
Target takes 2 Damage
Zone 1 on Target: Other foes are Pushed 1 from Target
Normal Hit (3-5):
Target takes 3 Damage
Zone 1 on Target: Other foes are Pushed 2 from Target
Strong Hit (6):
Target takes 3 Damage
Zone 1 on Target: Other foes are Pushed 3 from Target
Critical Hit (6,6):
Target takes 4 Damage
Zone 1 on Target: Other foes are Pushed 3 from Target
Dual Burst
Gain Block 1
Next SMG Burst attack is Range 5
Place the following Delayed AOE twice, which move with the Bullet Dancer if they move before the start of their next turn.
Unlike other Lines, they do not need to move directly away from you, but they still can’t overlap with you.
Delayed Line 8: Foes take 4 AP Damage and are Dragged 4
Bullet Cyclone
Spend 2 Stress
Gain Inspired
Zone 1: Foes are Pushed 1 and Off Balance
Next SMG Burst attack is Accurate 2
Place the following Delayed AOE, which moves with the Bullet Dancer if they move before the start of their next turn
Delayed Zone 2: Foes take 4 AP Damage, are Guard Break and Doomed
Hell of Bullets (Unwieldy)
Spend 2 Stress
Move 3 (Acrobatic)
Next SMG Burst attack deals +1 Damage and is Armor Piercing.
Place the following Delayed AOE twice anywhere on the map
Delayed Zone 1: Foes take 5 AP Damage, are Knocked Prone and Dazed.
trying something new with it
Ran my session 0.5, featuring a little scene that set up how they began session 1(and doubled as a narrative tutorial)
The Investigator asked some good questions, did some interviews, and picked up the first hook of one of my hidden plots
The Boss sold a lot of weed and is now stinking rich(relatively speaking) (used Confirm to upgrade to hit a crit on making money)
Both of them are having a good time
Oh nice
hey what obstacle would you use to represent a trash can people can be thrown into
An object if you want it thrown around
Anyone like me that thought River City Girls was too hard, River City Girls 2 is way way easier (with 2 harder difficulty modes) and like, does these brawler/slice of life vibes excellently
🥳 🥳 🥳 🥳

Oh hell yah

Hell yah

This exact kind of setting and ttrpg system is something I've wanted to do since forever.
SOAR is looking peak! What program did you use to make the pdf?
used Affinity Publisher!
Neat! Do you like it? Is there a pretty steep learning curve? I've given latex a shot and im not sure it's good for what i want to use it for
