making it 35 hp

#

is it supposed to have 30 hp?

hardy sierra
#

Tier 3?

spare kernel
#

tier 1

#

my question is, should i remove the +5 hp gained from ultra then?

#

the resilient trait i mean btw

hardy sierra
#

Look at the book

#

I think that includes ultra bonus hp

#

Can't rember if compcon version does

#

Book is correct

umbral oyster
#

Looks like it should indeed have 30 HP, including the amount added by the ultra perk.

#

The T1 ultra behemoth I built in comp/con has the correct amount of HP while having the Resilient trait, but I suppose if it's broken for you, just cut the trait

grave palm
#

Is 1 legionnaire unit equivalent to 1 npc?

hidden sand
#

Hmmm, I found out how to softlock lancer 😌

Stun an ultra with argus armour, have at least 3 grit and 1 accuracy or 4 grit. Use 10000 punches reserve on the stunned ultra... Behold! Soft lock, it's impossible to structure with the base improv attack and it's impossible to miss, meaning the 10,000 punches resolves infinitely!

The solution of course is "this isn't a computer game idiot, just stop" but I don't care and it's funny

shell sleet
#

wait, why can't you structure with improvised attacks

#

that's not a normal lancer rule, lancer doesn't have a concept of nonlethal damage AFAIK (only sturdy-esq abilities like custom paint job)

umbral oyster
#

It's the Ultra, I think. It doesn't do enough damage to actually hurt the Argus armor enemy.

hardy sierra
#

Unlucky

shell sleet
#

ah, i see what you mean

spare kernel
#

thx for the answers

#

whats the optimal space for a behemoth fight?

#

considering cover is nill

#

is 35x35 too much?

grave palm
#

Will player lose heat from nosferatu bite if that player get affected by spite's imprison already

#

for context

umbral oyster
#

Since 'The Bite's on-hit effect is that the target clears(as opposed to any other worlding) all heat, I'd assume no. Question to me would be whether that means Nosferatu would gain 0 Overshield & Heat. I'd assume so, given the other possibility is violating thermodynamics, but weirder things have happened in games

hardy sierra

it could go either way

I'm a little confused by the Ordnance part on the Swabber Cannon

#

eternal echo
#

Wait I'm dumb that wasn't Ordnance that was Arcing

manic jasper
#

Oleander can't get around Precision Instrument by preparing a skirmish, can it? (assuming it already attacked on its turn, e.g. overcharge skirmish -> prepare skirmish)

hidden sand
#

I think prepare follows the order as if you would take that action now

#

You can prepare a skirmish now but you can't use your... hmm actually idk

#

Since you determine weapon at the time

#

I'd assume the intent is "no you can't"

#

But nothings stopping heavy gunner

hardy sierra
#

ya

#

you can only prep stuff you can do right now

manic jasper
#

right, but like Imp said: you prepare to Skirmish, and then when you only choose a weapon when you actually take the Skirmish action. So I'm mostly looking for intent here, since I think the RAW works (and because Prepare is such a weird action...)

twilit condor
#

not being able to move > prep skirmish w/ an ordnance weapon implies that you can't use prep to bypass precision instrument

#

cause it implies that declaring weapons is done with the prepare rather than when the skirmish resolves, so you can't pick the ordnance weapon cause its not valid

manic jasper
#

That's a good point! Thanks

shell sleet
#

you could also argue you don't have to choose the weapons when you prepare, but any weapons that would have been ineligible to be fired can't be fired

#

like a prepared skirmish on a weapon that's destroyed before you can fire it - you wouldn't be screwed lol

hardy sierra

I've been toying around with LL5 builds, and thinking a lot about Oleander as a heat-clearing platform. My first idea was to overcharge every turn with Heatfall + offturn attacks...but HMG without autostab is sad, and I couldn't decide what to do with that extra action anyway. Then I remembered that Metalmark is Spicy.

manic jasper
#

...actually, wait, Scylla nets you two heat cleared every round...going down to 3 Hull seems really greedy, but it means you can do a 1d6+4 overcharge from 0 heat, clear 4 of it on turn with BT+skirmish, go back up to 8 with Scylla then down to four off turn...

hidden sand
#

Heavy gunner?

#

That's 1-2 extra attacks

manic jasper
#

that's the sensible option for sure (and what I'd actually run, since my group doesn't need a third Iconoclast-range character)

Skirmisher 2 would be funny. An effective speed of 11, or 15 if you low roll the overcharge and scylla twice...

eternal echo
#

Got a question regarding the Swabbers:

Does Puppetmaster activate No Quarter for them?

hardy sierra
#

it do

eternal echo
#

Neat!

eternal echo
#

Need some confirmation: the Swabbers are valid targets for Haste and Summon, correct?

manic jasper
#

to be a valid target for Invade or Haste, a character just needs to not be immune to tech. Usually that means being biological, which the swabbers aren't (thank goodness)

the phrase you need to watch out for is "mech characters". Drones are (allied) characters, but not mechs, so you those effects won't work. Neither Invade, Summon, nor Haste use that language, so you're good

hardy sierra
#

Swabbers also can't boost

zealous scaffold
#

They do have a speed though, so is it because they simply can't take actions in general ?

#

Trying to understand is all

azure pond
#

yeah, my understanding is that it's a result of the "drones can't move or take actions by default" rule

hardy sierra
#

that would be it

#

but they do be having a speed

#

hm

#

whatever applies to orochis applies to swabbers

#

so i dont have to rule it lol

manic jasper
#

Afaik there's no official standard for whether you can give a drone the ability to take an action after the fact. If you'll forgive the uno reverse card, would a drone gain the Subterranean Repositioning reaction from Prospector?

#

IMO the intent in the drone tag is probably "if a drone doesn't give itself action or movement, or an ability doesn't mention drones, it shouldn't work with drones"

harsh crest
#

Seeking Daisy Cutter is nasty, given the huge area of effect, but you could do that before with Nanocomposite Adaptation

manic jasper
#

yeah. I'm cooking up a phase ready build right now for early IAF and it's goofy. With 8 charges, on average I eat my share of the enemy structure budget by targeting one and a half NPCs per shot.

crimson turret

this is potentially a stupid question: Does the Behemoth roll on the structure/stress table (assumiung the correct number of hardpoints are destroyed to actually make it lose structure)

At the end of the Behemoth's turns, the character is pulled 3 spaces towards the Behemoth. l'm confused if this effect apply only once on the turn behemoth used it, or it apply indefinitely until the target cleared its effect.

Yeah......when an Oleander locks in that's just about right. Threw a megafauna boss at my party. It's got a nasty effect that makes it immune to bonus damage. Good luck telling that to the Oleander.

manic jasper

I don't think Oleander's kit would get around that. Immunity isn't a reduction, so "cannot be reduced" effects like that one Oleander option don't help

dusk sage

Eeeh that's what the group consensus was when we looked at it. If the damage cannot be reduced then it would go right through immunity since technically immunity is reducing damage to 0. So le shrug.

I can now confirm: Bligh truly is a chasis of all time. My Bligh player has made a build that keeps me up at night and after the mission I just ran it still does. Bugger is running it with Field Analyst + Drone Commander + Emperor systems. We're about to enter LL5 so he's going Kidd 2 Emperor 3 with Universal Compatibility.

With the collective amount of damage this motherfucker mitigates, I could've completely 100 to 0'd one of the PCs twice over.

No, just with gate 4. That one specifies the target changing allegiance to become allied. In Enhanced Combat, the definition of a scoring character says that "all hostiles (and) all PC mechs are scoring characters." Thus an allied NPC mech is not scoring.

I did like Bratty mentioned, I had units on Patrol, guarding a walled part of a city my players were trying to break into;

There was a choke point, with a road running into the city, a handful of outlying building & forest, and inside was a street with buildings (but much more shallow than the outside of the wall).

So I had two mechs "on point" on the walls facing outwards, and 3-4 mechs on "random patrols" outside the walls and 1 just pacing back and forth just inside the walls. When the PCs started their approach, they determined they were going to eliminate targets on the way and had a bit of Minotaur // Lich tech to teleport enemies into a remote location to get "stealth eliminations" on them. But I had the other patrols notice their allies weren't walking the normal routes and start heading that way.

One of the targets they tried to take out was an assassin, who ended up surviving for like, 2 full rounds somehow (lots of missing), and yeah lol. I think they ended up raising the detection by like 2? I think the Assassin spotted them once, and one of the other patrols found a wreck and called it in, but they made their way into the city after with little difficulty.

#

It felt like a silly sit-rep at points, because I had a PC with a Ghengis OC and boost with Jump-Jet Boosters and Ace so they like, were making tons of heat and flying across the area, and .. just the clash against the idea of how sensors work in general (detecting cold core reactors or "hidden" foes is usually a given, it's not really special stuff).

But it was fine as a kinda silly side thing on their way to fight a boss πŸ˜‚

Couple of questions - firstly, going to be building a map for a Search and Rescue sitrep and am unsure how tangled I should make the objective zones without bungling the thematics (it’s buried pirate treasure they’re going to load into ships… but that would tend to make all the extraction zones kinda lined up somewhat in a β€˜real’ map which goes against the vibe of the sitrep).

Secondly, does anyone have any good token sources for the EC NPCs? I’m good with just kitbashing stuff in Retrograde but if some source exists I’m not aware of it would be nice to know about it.

What are y’all’s experience incorporating stuff like the extra map tools (like the Fluids) and Extra Objectives in modifying combats from modules? Good idea? Bad idea? Depends?

quasi kestrel
#

depends is a strong option lol

quasi kestrel
#

I think the terrain or hazard options are something I try to incorporate into maps already, to make the game dynamic and less stale;

Secondary objectives can depend on a lot of things. In Wallflower, combats are generally a bit on the easy side as is, so adding additional objectives (or swapping out Sit Reps whole sale), can create a bit of extra challenge for the players. But with every table, players skill will determine if they need or want extra challenges, or if they will simply feel over whelmed. Also, just like any mission, objectives with no stakes or meaning kinda fall flat, IMO. If there are bonus objectives you simply have to pass on constantly, that can feel defeating even if you're doing well at the mission. People dislike feeling like they've missed out on stuff (or at least I do! I quit playing a video game once because it offered post-mission scores and it was impossible to get the SS rating and that bothered my brain).

If I were running OSR, I likely would not choose to be adding secondary objectives since that is classically tuned a bit stronger than some modules.

IMO, the most important aspect is if it makes the story better, but some people play more for the combat.

I just played one, it was on a 30 x 44 hex map, with a central objective//deploy zone.

Players didn't get further than maybe 15 spaces from the center (Which was about the edge of the short side of the map). But the fight came to them fairly quickly anyhow.

Definitely depends on if you're playing the NPCs "out" from the players, and forcing them to assault outward and bring the goods back, or if the OpFor is more aggressive and in their face. Plus obviously, your players average speeds, if they can't move more than 3 average, I'd make a smaller map for almost anything.

After this weekend I have two STRONG recommendations from folks using the Breach & Clear sitrep:

  1. Measure your map dimensions. I just used the automatic dimensions assigned when I uploaded a map image, this resulted in my players needing to cover 80 tiles in 8 turns.

  2. Spread out the hostiles. This combat represents a shock attack down the length of a major two-lane road. I arranged the hostiles in a line more or less six tiles tall, this has led to my players crashing headlong into dense hostile formations.

Hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes.

Armor-lock doesn't prevent involuntary movement and the train doesn't inflict knockback, so they'd be shoved out of the way and would take damage based on the result of the save.

I mean, Grunts count 1-for-1. Depends on the situation. Often time in zone holding maps, I have the OpFor end with 0 points (Gauntlet and Holdouts), because of how efficient the PCs are.

If it isn't overwhelming, or ruining the game by "Instantly winning" for the OpFor, I'd just count each one as a scoring character.

I would certainly say if any Legionnaire is adjacent to an Objective the PCs are trying to move, they would contest (And thus it can't be moved). Seems the simplest way IMO.

I guess I'm curious if the reasoning against doing so is "too strong/complicated" or if there's other design intentions that I'm not aware of

zealous scaffold
#

Two things :
For me, one of the best parts about the Behemoth's design is how it, and its hardpoints, only have access to FAs, which keeps everything going smoothly, and pretty quickly for a boss-type NPC. And that means introducing anything that isn't also a FA risks breaking that pattern/flow, feeling anti-synergistic with the rest of your kit that offers no QA options. To be clear, nothing stops it from just doing standard quicks normally, so yeah. Also, maybe the argument about "all FA" is just me and it's not at all a problem for you to makr it use Quicks. Still wanted to point it out just in case.

#

Secondly, yea I put SCL on mine a while back. It was fine, as in it didn't result in any major catastrophies. (Granted, I did run my slightly-reworked version of SCL : lay down the line as the usual FA, then force the save as a protocol. Essentially just a quick fix to make it telegraphed.)

Looking at the rules, it definitely wouldn't just be a matter of flipping the sides.

I think what I'd do with that is, instead of having the train have HP and actions like a normal character, have it be like Nexus Defense.

#

Non-Grunt enemies carry bombs that need to be used adjacent to it as a full action, and the mission fails if four of them are used.

#

It'd have a lower budget than Nexus Defense, because the players obviously can't build defenses.

obtuse raptor
#

That sounds like a good idea. I hadn't re-read Nexus Defense yet but I definitely was thinking something along those lines would be a starting point.

winter bloom
#

That's definitely the right way to go, I think. Sitreps where the PCs are defending something almost always benefit from extra mechanics/restrictions on how the objective can be harmed by the enemies.

(Could be wrong but I think Ralf was at one point trying to make a reverse Train Heist sitrep, but threw in the towel after being unable to think of a good way to let the enemies damage the train - without also making it way too easy for the enemies to win.)

Alright, so we'll start with The Train. So the base is the The Train NPC on pg 55 of Enhanced Combat. I removed the Slinger Cannon, Emergency Shield Generator, and Engine of Death systems. I added the Hardened Target and Siege Armor systems from the Core Rulebook. Then I wrote up this to replace Engine of Death:

The Train has +2 Structure and +2 Stress. When the Train takes structure damage it will lose an equal amount of Stress, when the Train takes stress damage it will will lose an equal amount of Structure.
The Train has three Size 4 "cars". When the Train takes structure or stress damage, an equal number of cars become inactive and stop moving with the Train. They are considered destroyed and become Wrecks. The Train as a unit is considered destroyed when all three cars are destroyed.```
That second paragraph is important because characters can stand on the cars and move with them when **Crushing Speed** activates.
#

The Train also starts with two Defensive Turrets mounted on the second car, these work like the GMS Deployable Turrets from the Core Rulebook except any friendly character can activate them. They still may each only activate once per round.

#

Last bit of The Train clarification, the token I used to represent The Train was only about two hexes across, so I only counted those spaces for being murdered by Crushing Speed. A character anywhere within the Size 4 area would still move with the train, they either were standing on it or grabbing ahold of it. Also I let a player slap a Smoke Grenade onto the side of The Train.

#

Enemy Forces were 2.0x budget but should have been 1.5x, both sides of the map parallel to the traintrack were Ingress Zones.
Final enemy composition was:

  • 4 Aces with Strafe,
  • 4 groups of four Grunt RPV Vehicle Assaults with Flier. I used a suggestion I saw on Reddit to halve the Damage/Heat/Burn/Reliable trait of Grunts to make Assault Grunts not suck. Only two of the groups were actually deployed.
  • 4 Squads with the Shotgun Weapon and War Steeds traits from the third-party NPC Squad Kits Google Doc. Only three were actually deployed and I found it necessary to halve the damage of the Shotgun Weapon.
  • 4 Vehicle Striders (from Wallflower) with the Siege Kit, Sapper Kit, Hustle, Duck, and Treads Traits/Systems.
  • 2 Ship Veteran Priests with Fractal Assault and Acrobat. All spaces under or adjacent to these big guys counted as Ingress Zones.
#

Initial composition included Vehicle (Flier) Hornets instead of the UAV Assaults, but I realized before I deployed them that they wouldn't be adding much to the scenario.
The REALLY BAD idea in the initial composition was Vehicle Rainmakers instead of the Striders. I did consider that The Train/players would inevitably trigger the Javelin Rockets, I did not consider that those rockets have no default way to avoid them once triggered or two destroy them in the air. Thankfully I figured that out right after the first activation of the System and before it actually triggered, that was quickly retconned.

#

Feedback and observations included:

  • Too goddamn many enemies, 2.0x was way too much, 1.5x will probably be just right.
  • I needed to have defined what happens to players not aboard an "active" car of The Train when Round 6 ends and The Train leaves the field. In this run everyone was in the latter half of the map and the enemy was pretty beat up, so I just called it good.
  • Needed some way to track Defensive Turret activations, since they each only get to fire 1/round. I ended up adding them to the initiative tracker around Round 4.
  • Specific player mechanic complaint, the automatic movement of the train meant that it was very rare for Shield of Blades to actually be active.
#

Also, starting enemy forces were the Priest dropships and the Aces.

#

And the map height, the direction of The Train's movement, was 24 spaces. So at LL1 an Everest/Chomolunga/Sagarmatha can mostly keep up. Getting left behind wasn't a huge fear.

quasi kestrel
# polar quarry I have both installed. Foundry 11, v2.5.0. Wallflower is `2.0.5` and Long Rim is...

It's not foundry, it's the function of LCPs // COMP/CON that is the root of that.

It's a negligable error, it shouldn't stop the Bligh from importing. But the Bligh's swabbers are drones but due to how LCPs work they have to be formated as a "weapon" on the "frame". The weapon type they chose was "drone" to represent the swabber drones, but weapons only accept QCB, Rifle, etc. so it gives an error.

serene iris

pseudo linden
#

thanks! I have a question about EC Escort's round timer as well: Looking at the Payload ruling, it seems like daisy chaining boosts is legal and expected, the standard size of an EC escort is about 30 spaces, and the round limit is 8. This seems very permissive? With a 4-player party that can consistently move 8-12 spaces per turn, you could easily blitz that out in 4-5 rounds

#

even allowing a couple rounds of slack, my understanding is that they should only have like, 1-2 extra ones?

obtuse raptor
pseudo linden
#

yeah, but you can boost TO the payload and then use your standard movement after that is my read of this

#

so if you have 4 movement and boost 1 space to reach it, you can use the remaining 4 standard movement to push it

shell sleet

or possibly also in this case the intention is to play very aggressively with NPCs hugging the payload, but that is a trend I've noticed (or maybe I'm hallucinating!)

pseudo linden

exotic shard
#

So the Necromancer ability is a weird weirdly written and I'm not 100% certain I understand it.
I'm talking about the standard attack they have.
Is it a requirement for the structure damage part to trigger for the ability to function?
That is: Functionally the ability is a 3 damage attack that IF it hits an ally with less than 50% HP left it deals structure damage and IFF that structure damage loss kills it a thrall is spawned?

#

Or are the two parts of the ability separate.
The structure damage is ONE quality of it, and the thrall bit is entirely separate

(please ping me if you reply to this so I don't miss it!)

exotic shard

Great. It would be much more useful than the first interpretation

Also if the second part triggers I don't think there's any way the first part wouldn't have triggered.

#

At least not with the baseline model

exotic shard

The weird thing is with the first interpretation the ability would be useless against enemies.

"When this attack hits an allied character that is below half their maximum HP they lose 1 Structure. Whenever this attack destroys a character that would leave a wreck, they instead leave behind a number thralls equal to their size. "

That's why I was a bit unsure. I agree that the second interpretation is more reasonable.

obtuse raptor

Ooh, I see

Yeah, that's a biggy

Though unless a GM has given the players friendly NPCs I would think it would be rare to see it trigger on an enemy of the Necromancer.

what scenarios would there be where a character is Hidden but not in sufficient cover to be hidden from a Hostile using Spot Hostile or is Invisible?

shell sleet
#

don't have the pdf handy but iirc it's worded in a way that makes it unclear if the scout/etc. Sight trait is supposed to count as "I'm allowed to spot this guy"

#

when I tried this sitrep, frankly i found it fell apart extremely quickly with high sensors characters on the board, just because it's straight up unfun for scouts/snipers to spot you from 20 spaces away. i would strongly recommend, if you run this, to not have anything that's actually good at spotting for that reason

agile lake
shell sleet
#

depends on map and elevation. it's definitely possible, and it was possible enough on a relatively normal map that it kinda turned me off of running that sitrep again

obtuse raptor
#

That's a great question, I'm going to be doing one for the Combat after next. For my purposes I was thinking about a very dense urban environment. Once the players find out how the Behemoth feels about terrain they can make choices about where they want to be and therefore what terrain is destroyed.
Like in games where you can only step on specific tiles/spots that "disappear" or otherwise become invalid once you step off of them.

agile lake
#

If I want to use the Down to the Wire (aka Bomb) optional objective, what should I keep in mind if I want to ignore the rule of the bomb being exactly 14 spaces from the player deployment zone?

olive bay
#

Usually just put it in a spot where the PCs want to be, like on an objective point in a control/recon/king of the hill sitrep

#

So the PCs will still go there, but now they have to decide if they want to wait for the bomb to blow up on its own, or run in and try to defuse it

agile lake
#

I wanna put it in a Control (it’s an asymmetrical one where it’s sorts Triforce/HA symbol shaped- one in the middle, one closer to the PC deploy zone, and 2 closer to the enemy deployment zone). I don’t wanna place it in the center because I have a different gimmick in mind for it, but idk if I should put it in the one closest to the players or the one closest to the enemies

#

Which one sounds better?

olive bay
#

Maybe have the PCs roll for it at the beginning?

#

I'm pretty sure NPCs can attempt to defuse it too, so if it gets placed in a spot disadvantageous for the NPCs, you can just have htem attempt to defuse it now

agile lake
olive bay
#

yeah, mark each OBJ (1-4) and then have the PCs roll a D4 at the start of the scene

#

gives it a bit of random whilst also being fair

agile lake

That’s not gonna work unfortunately, since I’m assigning a specific gimmick to each OZ and I want β€œbomb” to be the objective of one of them- it would cause too much map design variation

I have a quick question about Infiltration just to make sure I understand it correctly.

If PCs end their turn in Soft Cover, they cannot be scored upon, yes? So, Infiltration sitreps should have minimal Soft Cover, or should there be a lot of soft cover? this is what I have in the works, but I think its too much cover, like it will trivialize the sitrep

shell sleet
#

i would suggest not running infiltration on a map without major line of sight blockers, like buildings or such, that make actually getting line of sight relatively difficult (not just soft cover or normal cover objects)

#

i found that for it to work, you also basically need to avoid using anything with high sensors to prevent it from becoming an otherwise mundane deathmatch

fresh fjord
#

it ended up working out fine when I ran it. I see your point about breaking line of sight, but the players do not need to block line of sight to avoid being scored on. they only need to have soft cover sufficient to hide. So why do you think that we need large LoS breakers? not trying to be hostile, just curious about your thought process

#

on another note:

Behemoth Brawl.

How do you folks run those? i mean mechanically, in FoundryVtt. Do you make separate Actors for the Nodes, and just place them around the Behemoth's token? or do you just track them off to the side?

shell sleet
#

if players can just sit in soft cover, they'll always do that, and while that's a neat quirk i don't find that it adds much to the overall experience. relevant line of sight blockers make actually using cover intelligently important, and overall turns it into something worth playing as a minigame imo

#

(i also think it makes the self-immo on a spot action more consequential, but that's more minor)

fresh fjord
#

-nod nod-

shell sleet
#

for foundry & behemoth brawls, yeah. you can mess with token Z settings to make the node actors always display on top as well

So ironically, I could very likely see much older frames like the hapsburg and such finding a new life within the hands of insurgents who'd literally take any other mechagnized frame they can get their hands on c:

These bonus objectives make me feel like it would be very possible to make a sort of Roguelike Lancer.

#

I like it

twilit marlin
#

It's definitely possible. Ralf has done Battle Royale Lancer already, so I wouldn't be surprised in it eventually running Doom or something

light merlin
#

can I get someone's thoughts about an encounter with the decapitation move as a bonus objective? If I were to put a Supreme Leader behind an Ultra that doesnt really defend them, would that be too much?

#

and by that I mean they would try to keep the main objective of king of the hill defended but if the leader gets focused down they wont really try to prevent them from getting hit or focused down

wheat moss
#

since the Supreme Leader isn't a scoring character it'd make sense to have the Ultra stick around the objective, yeah

#

If you're wanting the objective to be more feasible i'd just go with an Ultra that isn't going to wind up with 15 billion HP to chew through since the Supreme Leader already gets its own 15 billion

light merlin
#

I did want said ultra to be a crusader. On that not the both of these might be too much

Ahoy hoy, Ive been using the Enhanced Combat NPCs for my group for a while now, but I'm stupid and didn't notice the Variant Frames at the back until just now. How well are they balanced, do you all think? I've not got a super good eye for that in the first place

fairly well balanced

I have a question about the Tempest, that I think i asked but do not recall getting a reply about (or I did and no one tagged me). But Climate Nodes:

⁨At the start of combat and after the PCs have deployed, deploy a number of Climate Nodes equal to the number of PCs. They can be deployed no more than 10 spaces from the Player Deployment Zone or from another node. ⁩

does this mean that a node must BOTH be within 10 of deployment AND within 10 of another node, or that the first node must be within 10 of PD, and the rest can be within 10 of PD or within 10 of another node?

Question about the Morningstar NPC type
What exactly counts as 'being destroyed by a tech action?'

serene iris
#

im rather certain it has to be directly from a tech action

#

not the burn from a tech action ticking down again or the damage from an expose from a tech action

errant raptor
#

I was trying to imagine what would happen to an Ultra Morningstar with Superior Reactor, and thus immunity to Exposed

serene iris
#

shouldnt have that probably, part of the design is that its very bulky but low heatcap

twilit marlin
#

It's for the off-case someone makes a Grunt Morningstar since without it they'd instantly explode

hidden sand
#

Cases it would definitely count:

  • Killed via eject power cores
  • Killed via molten puncture (immolate)
  • Killed via purifying code (flaw plus or minus)
  • Killed via being a bitch ass grunt and taking external heat

Cases it might count:

  • Killed via Dominions breadth chip damage
  • Killed via Imperial eye chip damage
  • Killed via Walk of kings chipp damage
#

Honestly I think a morningstar with superior reactor wouldn't be too bad

#

Like, a morningstart can only explode once, the threat of a grunt morningstar is their numbers, the threat of a veteran is that it will take more to kill it so it has more opportunities to get closer and the threat of an elite is that it has double the speed or chances to stabilise

An ultra may have 4 times the hp and stress but can only explode once

#

There are other ways to bait it from exploding, and it will just mean you are constantly aware that it CAN explode, you just need to make sure when it's low on structure you aren't near it

agile lake
#

Btw, what do y’all think of the EC Bonus Objectives? IMO they’re all really fun sans Contract Killer. For that one the Contract killer looks a bit too bulky and making the target immune to all but the Killer’s damage feels weird

#

Also have y’all ever felt the Executioner is too specific? Just looking at it it doesn’t look the most fun to me because it’s very much β€œdo one thing and one thing only” while also seeming a little too good at that one thing. I get NPCs are supposed to be highly specialized but it feels very min-maxed to me

#

(I’m asking this because ideally I’d like to be dissuaded about this because it seems okay conceptually)

serene iris
#

its more of a threat like sniper without the one reload reaction

#

or bombard

#

it cant grapple and use its melee on the same turn

#

since the melee is a superheavy

agile lake
#

Idk if I like the idea of a "melee sniper" tbh, especially when Demolisher already exists in that regard

serene iris
#

in my experiences executioners essentially become threats into a high priority target if they nab someone

#

they become a very good distraction, but since they arent thaat tanky they also can be reasonably killed

#

just dont ever put supreme melee on them

quasi vector
#

Yeah, even rebake Supreme Melee makes them stupidly powerful.

is there a way to make this feature of salamander works in LL2?
since salamander/kobold seems dont have much tech attack option at current license?

olive bay
#

you still have the basic fragment signal invade (Slowed and Impaired until end of your next turn)

quasi vector
#

FragSig is seldom a bad option, and it synergizes with Salamander by making it harder for them to escape your slag bombs and for them to succeed on the saves.

agile lake
#

The amount of times I've been staring at my players thinking "use frag sig use frag sig use frag sig" and then they choose not to do it is a lot

Quick question on the Crusader. If they overwatch with their sword does that allow them to swing on another target?

serene iris
#

yes

fresh fjord
#

Ive got a question about Clash of the Titans.

At the end of every round, the enemy titan deals 1 Structure to player titan. So, if by the end of round 1 they haven't collected a Defense token, the player titan is taking a damage. However, the players cannot spend Attack tokens to damage enemy titan until after round 7. So, best case scenario, PCs have to deal with 7 incoming damage. To even be possible, that means there need to be at least 4 Defense tokens acquirable as soon as possible, and 4 Attack tokens acquirable. That's 8 enemy NPCs.

We can't fit all that in a starting deployment, that's way more actions than the book recommends for a sitrep, unless you've got a party of six, seven people. So some of those would be held as reinforcements.

So, does anyone have any thoughts on best practices here? how many defense tokens should be immediately acquirable? is it assumed that the PCs will take some damage inevitably, or do people put eight defense tokens and 4 offense tokens in there?

zealous scaffold
#

I don't know where you see that the PCs can only deal damage after round 7

fresh fjord
agile lake
#

That says any amount, as in you can spend more than one

#

Before then, you can still spend attack tokens to deal damage it's just that there's a limit (1 attack token per round I believe?)

zealous scaffold
#

Yeah it's just the normal rules of how it works before round 7, one structure a turn.

#

The line right above the one you posted.

fresh fjord
#

oh woops

#

no you're right i missed that

#

hehehehehe green = gives defense token, red = gives attack token. there isn't an enemy titan, instead its abstracted to instead have a Union army the players are supporting, and moving across the field, spending attack tokens to weaken the pirate forces enough to break through their wall at the end of the map

warm basin
#

what is the most efficient way to destroy multiple slag bombs other than using seismic ripper?
what are the quick action system/weapon that capable of doing that? πŸ€”

serene iris
#

raleigh grenades

#

prospector talent

serene iris
#

easiest one to incorporate out of all of these is the raleigh grenades

#

only issue is they are limited 3

agile lake
#

Siege Spec 1

#

Imo Siege Spec 1 is the most efficient way to go about it

#

Also because the Salamander has Insulated, Juggernaut 3 and Siege Ram

vagrant dagger
#

Siege Spec 1 has disadvantages, since it knocks adjacent targets out of the blast zone. You gotta space things out right. Siege Ram is my preferred method overall though.

serene iris
#

the question was multiple slag bombs, which i guess plasma cutters does because an aux/aux of them would do that, but i still think raleigh grenades are far and away the easiest and greatest uptime of the options

#

1ll, only a quick, and also does some additional damage to the target inside

agile lake
#

But if I were to guess, I think with SS1 you could destroy the slag bomb, resolve the slag explosion, and then inflict the Knockback

quasi vector
#

Yeah, the explosion isn't an action, so it can resolve in the middle.

agile lake
#

Yeah so Siege Spec 1 is definitely better than Siege Ram IMO because the LL level and SP is more valuable than 1 talent rank

#

And you’re operating at a medium range anyway

quasi vector
#

Also, you get a really nice cannon.

agile lake
#

Even if you didn’t AOE weapons like Mortars are probably helpful to the Salamander

#

To hit bombs without going out of their way for it

vagrant dagger
#

I actually find a lot of utility from that one LL of Tortuga, since Deck-Sweeper is a perfect weapon on Salamander

agile lake
#

Valid

agile lake
#

Still, Siege Spec 1 is prolly your best ranged option

vagrant dagger
#

Yeah, it's definitely a good option to have in your back pocket. You just have to play a bit tactically with it to avoid knocking the enemy out of the AoE.

serene iris
#

I would agree siege spec 1 is generally your best option to destroy bombs at range

#

If you can get your hands on it one of the new exotics is really good for it as well

#

Oh wait thats a heavy nevermind

agile lake
#

You can destroy, explode, then knock back

lucid aurora
#

I will say a funky Salamander combo license I’ve found is Mourning Cloak

#

Not the most viable, you still should try packing Siege Spec 1 or some other QA terrain destroyer, but the HLS’s Terrify option is pretty strong, especially if your enemy can’t retreat effectively and it still Impairs them for difficulty on the bomb explosion

#

Plus Variable Sword can be really handy against characters who get too close to you while running Fusion Rifle, along with just using FADE Cloak, Fold Knife, and/or Singularity Motivator to phase through walls

#

Again, not the β€œbest” choice for Salamander but it has some fun value to it

agile lake
#

You probably only need 2 levels in MC to that effect tbh

Any idea of how many eggs should be present on the map with the Hatchery environmental effect ?
I guess it depends on the SitRep, OpFor and what kind of Monstrosity is in the eggs, but is there an average (or min/max above which it becomes useless/broken) ?

Question about the phantasm. Is it intended for phantasms to be able to use other phantasm's holograms with refract beam? It only says "a hologram" while holo decoys says "its holograms".

#

question regarding the necromancer: if a necromancer is an ultra or elite, does it give its thrall drones only one turn a round or does it give the thralls a turn twice because itself acts twice?

#

olive bay

I would interpret it as the thralls get more turns

gray osprey
#

Thats how i saw it but my players were getting very antsy about the thralls having so much action economy and wanted a definitive answer

twilit marlin
# gray osprey reference

They do get doubled up action econ effectively, yes. It's partially limited in how many Thralls it can spawn and that doesn't get bypassed with Ultra's Shock and Awe I believe.

#

You're free to do it as a once per round thing if you want to tamp it down since Necromancer is one of those NPCs that gets a bit zooted with templates, much like Nosferatu or Phantasm.

how wide should the quadrants in a breach & clear sitrep be?

#

all pilots on my table have a speed of 4

#

so.... 5?

twilit marlin
#

so for a team of Speed 4s I'd consider like 8 spaces for the quadrants.

rose fiber
#

Continuing from the above, my party's speed comp is 2 mechs with 3 speed, and 2 mechs with 7 speed. Should I base the speed off of the slowest, the fastest, or split the difference?

serene iris
#

typically, it should take them about 1.5 turns to get to the next quadrant iirc

rose fiber
#

They're Speed 4, but we have Lich who loves Haste and hands it out like candy, and an Orchis who goes insanely fast and will pull allies along with ferrous lash.

serene iris
#

hmmm... typically speaking, a breach and clear is about 8 to 10 spaces of distance

#

so i think 10 spaces should be fine? it also just depends on how you play as a gm and your npcs, if you are slowing your players down a bunch someway or the other, then you should reduce the distance

rose fiber
#

That's fair, I do have a lot of Hornets in the opfor which is likely gonna cause them grief

#

What is the intended method of fighting the Phantasm? Fought one with 2 activations per round so it had ample opportunity to either attack us or refresh its clones if they were down and that was a nightmare and a half esp considering we had an Ultra and friends on the field as well.

serene iris
#

reading its systems

#

killing all the clones and then attacking it

#

or using methods that don't require attacks

#

the phantasm cant full action multiple times, and if you have an aux/aux user its easy to destroy several at once

#

so you reduce it to 1 phantasm and then shoot it

#

or just bolster the person who is about to shoot at it next turn

lunar pond
#

we're just thinking forward to the rematch

#

we didn't end up killing it. the mech escaped while we fought and killed its friends because we decided that was better than going after a 2 activation phantasm that we weren't sure we could take off the table before its friends (including an ultra) got us

#

DC2, save vs damage like hex charges, uhh. dominion's breadth aoes.

serene iris
#

ok ya just set up hex charges next to a phantasm hologram

lunar pond
#

as in the grenade, i mean

serene iris
#

if you have the grenade, you have the mine

lunar pond
#

hmm

#

you'd have to force the phantasm to hop to that hologram, but i suppose that's workable

serene iris
#

set them up next to a hologram, then remove the other holograms

#

then once you shoot the phantasm

#

it has to jump to that one with the mines

#

bam sudden explosion boom pow dead

#

or at the very least 2d6 damage per mine to the face

lunar pond
#

that would be very good
