#Traditional roguelikes
1 messages ยท Page 3 of 1
I'm looking through various castes and callings and so many of them already look really cool. XD
For an inexperienced player it's a significant convenience, for an experienced players it's a mild one, but reasonable on a low-strength build. The real secret of it is that cooking effects last longer.
(Which can be reasonably potent, but to some extent it's still just a really major convenience compared to pulling back and cooking again when the effect runs out)
I did red rock early butI have significant other roguelike exp
it is fairly dangerous
it does rock they weren't kidding
Is it a problem if a calling or caste doesn't provide a combat skill to start or is it fine to get along without one?
On the topic of the true kin castes...is Praetorian starting with shield and rifle skills a bit weird? Like, shield would take up a hand used for the rifle wouldn't it?
praetorian is a very strong start
It did seem very 'I can just Fight Things if needed'
But since it was suggested, I should likely try mutants first.
Even if Fuming God-Child and Praetorian interest me a lot. XD
...why is cats listed as a faction?
Dogs and birds are too
...so I can go and share water with cats and make friends with them?
...that's adorable
if cats / dogs like you enough you can pet random members of those factions โบ๏ธ
I have a new goal
If the TK starts appeal to you, just go ahead and try em! Praetorian is what I'd recommend starting with because they have a lot of not dying tools
That 'armour' and 'weapon skills' does seem better than 'Trying not to kill myself with the random gas conch'
...how does water ritual work? The wiki is not explaining it well.
If I'm reading this right, I need to find a Legendary member of a faction before I can do it? And it won't actually raise reputation unless I also give Secrets?
Big deal ritual that lets you exchange secrets, skills with people. It also binds you to their friends and enemies and makes them your friends and enemies as well
You can try it with basically any NPC, you can do it with the elder of joppa to try it out
nods
Am I understanding this right in that it's the main way to affect reputation (Well, positively. I assume you can just Shoot People In The Face if you want less reputation)?
Not the generic NPCs though, only the unique and legendary ones
if u shoot someone in the face u get + rep with people who hated that motherfucker for eating one of their kids
yeah, and positive rep is generally just helpful
there's no benefit to negative rep other than it being really funny to have -3000 reputation with baboons
& if u water rit someone you get -rep with people who can't stand that lil shit because they are a fucking downright dogshit chef
So if I understand this correctly:
True Kin start off not hated by the Putus Templars
but
If I make them like me, everyone else will go 'Oh, you're a cunt too'
depends
like, it varies by legendary, it'll say on the legendary description itself who likes or hates a particular legendary
if the putus templar you water ritual has hate reasons then those factions will like you less
also TK are very incentivized to kill legendary templars
for reasons aside from the normal one (theyre fucking fascists)
...am I right in my reading that the description of the Templars implies they are heavily inbred/suffering the effects of it?
With the talk of 'tangled lineage' etc?
Yup
yea
Yes
They're trying to maintain their genetic purity at all costs and.
Well.
there were indeed costs
While the True Kin are more in line with like...Vault Dwellers. Not really a faction but they might turn up as protagonists and be Weirdly Unfucked Up.
nods
True kin are kind of an enigma there's so little information in game about the surviving arcologies. most of the information we have about them is from the caste specific item descriptions
Is this too All Over a statline/should I be focusing more?
Should be just fine for the start.
Assuming you aren't trying to hard prioritise a skill.
Looks fine, the game generally encourages having a bit of everything
Nah, I wasn't looking at anything in particular beyond 'this lines up well with my starting gear and skills'
You should be able to build up any stat needed from there as you level.
Now just to work out my Starting Cybernetic.
Think I usually start with 20 toughness for more melee based, because I like HP
Optical Technoscanner seems good as I have no damn clue about stuff in the game so far and I imagine a lot of artifacts are machinery
Oh that one is quite good for TK.
Especially if you want to buy new implants and all you can see in merchants inventory is 6 'weird artifacts' pricing from 500 to 4000
No they're evil like that and won't let you identify them first.
...and now picking a pet...oh I didn't read about these at all.
I'll go with the owl. Owls are cool
~~not that non TK can get one normally ~~
Ayy, I went with this definitely an owl my current run.
I kited a legendary that was aggressive to me through entire floor because it was admired by cats
I am deeply uncomfortable with this starting item but I guess it's a way to try and make hostile legendaries friendly enough to try and improve relations?
yeah. you can also use it on yourself for extremely funny results
it's also something you can boil down into cooking ingredients with the cooking skill, which is what I tend to do with them
I have befriended the baboons.
๐ฎ
Well, I say 'befriended'
I found two of these
And they apparently stack for +800 reputation if I go about with one on each arm
...is there anywhere I can store stuff I don't want to carry with me right now due to limited carrying capacity but might want later? Like are chests safe to just Dump Objects In if I'm in town?
you can pick up any empty chest you come upon (or any container I think)
plop it down in friendly location and store stuff there
Cool, I wasn't sure if it would get nicked while I was elsewhere. XD
So I can beat up these snapjaws and steal their chests.
essentially yes
I think the Elder might be An Asshole.
I also love how he's 'kinda disliked' for sabotaging someone in war and 'Oh we hate this fucker' for the quality of his jokes
lmao
Must have been some really bad jokes
they're "bawdy" so maybe he just has a real creepy vibe
...also, like 2/3s of my carrying weight right now is Water.
I think I need to get those chests set up.
I have discovered a thing I hate.
The stupid wall plants that rust your shit
I lost my chainmail to them ;-;
Evidently not me ๐
And in my defence, I wasn't expecting it to wreck all my Bronze gear too.
Bronze by its very nature can't rust.
It has no iron in it
I lost an Engraved, Flaming Bronze Battleaxe ;-;
You should totally bring this up with the devs that sounds like a great patch
Sorry for basicly livetweeting my experience with qud ๐
I for one welcome it
In fun things: I just got my first new cybernetic
Some finger upgrades that give -25% time taken to shoot pistols
That seems nice
Gotta be Looking
:^)
But yeah please keep updating cos I am also going through qud as a newbie rn
berate is extremely good yeah
especially with psychic attacks like confuse + sunder mind or beguiling /domination
I sadly do not have psychic powers but it's still really good for 'I am going to yell at you and then yell at you more and you are going to flee forever'. XD
I'm not sure how well it scales later on but even with only 20 ego, I've been using Menacing Stare to pick off the biggest, meanest guy before he can do anything.
Is it silly that I found one good cybernetic and kinda entirely changed what I'd been planning my build around? I'd originally been planning going Light Melee with daggers but I found that finger upgrades and a pistol in the same ruin and went 'I guess I'm a pistoleer now' (And to be fair, my stats were pretty damn generalist to start)
no that's called playing a tradrogue smart
And I guess the knife skills won't go to waste.
there is that 'when someone misses you, stab them with your knife'
So I can pistol and knife
most builds will want to get both melee and ranged options eventually
that's not always strictly a melee weapon specialty and a ranged weapon specialty, but for true kin that's usually how it goes
Yeah even as a strong melee focus build I have a revolver rn to weaken/pick off foes coming in
Also throwing random bullshit is good too
Poison spears, grenades, rocks if you're strong af
So far 'Random bullshit' for me has been 'That guy has a Real Name. GRENADE TO FACE'
Lmao yes
My Gas Conque occasionally also provides a useful gas.
Though I swear this thing is 99% normality gas and I don't even know what that is.
I won't spoil any specifics about normality gas, but if you want a basic idea, ||you can think of it as being like... antimagic gas, if this were a fantasy setting||
||it does a lot of weird stuff but most of what it does can be intuited from that starting point||
Makes sense. Just not going to stop me getting eaten by a bear.
depends on the bear, but, usually not going to stop it, yeah
The time it spewed out an ash cloud or poison gas was nice.
I can't believe I didn't read the description text for qudzu and immediately intuit what it'd do to my fucking gear...
I stand by being grumpy it worked on my Bronze Gear ๐
Is it possible to get extra limbs without being a Chimera? I'm doing a multiweapon shortblade kinda... rogue/ranger build, but I am concerned I shot myself in the foot
oh absolutely
Oh dope
there are items that do it which I won't spoil, and any mutant can get physical mutations if they're not an esper
most mutants I play are generalist mutants, in fact
I'm following some tips and using carapace and horns
also, there's solutions to having limited hand slots other than adding more hand slots but I will not spoil them
horns and carapace is a pretty good starter build; as a fan of horns builds, I tend to go Horns/Double-Muscled and then either Wings, Multiple Legs, Multiple Arms or Heightened Quickness
but carapace is comically durable in lategame if you put enough points into it
Oh I did also grab Double Muscled, yes!
Tbh I didn't wanna fuck with as many gear mechanics
I think, long-term, losing out on multiple slots can be a bit of a pain, but it won't ruin a build, just lock out a few more options than usual
and good, Double-Muscled is an amazing mutation on builds that attack a lot
My husband is calling this game Coves of Quaid now
also: encountered this guy in the fucking river early in a run, and I went through all five stages of grief before my entire body untensed so hard it hurt
how did you end up here, my man
"Delves of Dennis"
mentally prepared for death before just kinda going "oh" under my breath, asking him for directions and going on my merry way
(for those unaware: ||this is an endgame enemy with an extra modifier that makes it even more dangerous, except it's also apparently a convert to mechanism and therefore my buddy, actually, a fact I could not know until I took a moment to use the look command on him||)
tunnels of tony
Hey also thank you for being upfront about it, I don't fuckin know why I tried to tiptoe around it
I should play a Truekin my next playthrough
I still love my axe-dismemberment+minor esper stuff endgame mutant build
I'm now friends with fish.
What a joy it is to pass some ||lampreys|| and not needing to deal with em.
Woo
Apes taught me how to hit people with a mace better
always a good feeling to suddenly be buddies with random enemies in qud
Thinking about that robot disguise suit I once got
Gave +200rep to robots
I was inna -2k hole so it didnt help
(This implies the robots fell for the disguise but they hated me so much they were willing to take the risk to kill me)
The item rework is finally here! There are now many changes that should hopefully make inventory management much less painful. Not only that, but artifacts have finally been added to the game as well, and there are a few tweaks to the castle levels too. Additionally, I ended up going on a QoL rampage this patch. I'm very excited about some of th...

100% one of the best little benefits of Arconaut is the chance to get baboon +rep treasures
I am enjoying Akimbo + 2 Chain Pistols.
I either evaporate a guy with 1-2 volleys or I go 'Oh, his armour is too tough for my pistols...RUN AWAY'
What the fuck are trolls? I was told to go to this place to meet mechanists and now I'm getting axes thrown at my face by a troll.
I didn't even know the game had trolls, outside the devs.
I think you might be in a wrong place?
No, Bethesda Susa is like that
If you don't want to deal with the trolls, buy a pickaxe from Mafeo and hit the brick
Thinking about buying the pick to skip Golgotha too. How much hp do you figure I need to survive the fall?
a lot. use rubber gum tonics and cook congealed rubber gum to reduce fall damage or find some mechanical wings
you should buy a pick on every character just in general
it's so useful and only 1 wgt
Oh ok dope.
surviving the fall is generally not feasible unless you're a true kin, or stacking rubbergum with a rubber cooking effect; wings are a much better option most of the time
but also, jabbing yourself with a rubbergum tonic beforehand is a good idea anyway if you have a chance of falling while flying
I just forgot why you get sent there for a moment. Mixed up two dungeons.
Mafeo has a guaranteed pickaxe and also helps with your leads slug addiction
Anyone can cheese Golgotha by ||using the wings and cooking to unlock the phasing mutation. Phase through on the surface and then fly down. If you fail the fly check you will not fall down because of phasing and you can reactivate fly due to being exposed to the surface and therefore "outside". If you fall enough times for the phasing to run out before you get low enough to survive the real fall then you might die, but that's exceptionally unlikely.||
I too have found eldritch abominations who have abandoned their ways for the good lord
I feel like I've gotten hosed on my new limbs! I got an extra head on my foot and then... Support Hyphae out of my headfoot? Looks like all I can equip to it is a clay pot??
Clay pot is good though
So then what are people doing that they're talking about hexawield axe builds? Is there another way to get my chimera more limbs?
honestly, chimera as a build is often just slamming the "buy new mutation" button for a while and letting jesus take the wheel, but also, eventually you should be finding Multiple Arms or some natural weapons in that random mutation roll
if yr planning on doing hexawield i highly recommend starting with multiple arms & double muscled
dont let resheph take the wheel when it comes to multiple arms
I started with double-muscled, horns and multiple legs this run, plus all the one-point physical mutations to thin out the mutation pool
I'm doing carapace, horns, muscle, regen. With Tonic Allergy.
for an optimized Oops All Axes build, I'd do Double-Muscled, Multiple Arms and Adrenal Control and then really just let resheph take the wheel, because Adrenal Control lets you roll with a ton of level 1 physical mutations really easily
even then it takes some luck to get a lot of hands but it's rare to not even get one (and face slots, notably, have a type of weapon that can be stuck there, plus a mediocre head slot one and a rare arm slot one)
I also grew a tail with paralytic venom and sleep gas generation so I've become a crowd control demon
oh, sleep gas generation will carry you far
and the stinger is pretty nice on a multiweapon build, since it does benefit from flurry
Yeahhh!
my current nonsensically cranked chimera build (with Light Manipulation from a relic item)
I can't even properly screenshot the body layout I have because I have to scroll to see all of it
I am playing a new True Kin. Artifex who went heavy on Str and too the Fists. I'm not sure how you get enough strength as a true kin to make the 'infinite strength scaling' matter vs normal hammers but it looks fun.
you put all points into Strength, and find items that boost it as well
there's definitely options to just Keep Boosting Strength even without mutations
Ah, I did not put all my starting points in str. XD
I am level 6 and 26 str right now
that's pretty solid early on
believe me when I say that it can and will get Much Higher
just keep putting all of your attribute points into strength and it will Just Work
Extra head is OP. It means you can get one cut off and still be okay
dont put all starting points into strength, to clarify, put level up points into strength
Ah, cool. As yeah, I went str heavy to start but I didn't want to have a lot of negative stats as I rememberd 'you need agility to hit the guy in the first place'.
...also I just found an Electrobow. Is that good? I know some bows let you add str at range.
electrobows do not do that, but also, electrobows are really good as a reliable ranged option for melee builds
high penetration means it can crack open armored targets, high accuracy means it works well at range when you don't or can't approach, and as a bonus, it's a light source!
I'd also say that, yeah, going balanced for your starting kit and then dumping all points gained from leveling up into your preferred stat is often the way to go
that's the other thing, yeah
it works with low enough power that a solar or fidget cell is enough
I also have 5 sleep gas mines.
Becuase I kept chasing a robot around underground and he wouldn't stop dropping them
In other news: This character not starting with the 'automatically identify artifacts' cybernetic like my last one has led to a pratfall already.
As I'd have had 6 mines if I'd know there was a robot laying mines about the area.
Instead of 'Ooh, unknown artifact on the ground' Bang
Also: Man, starting without the 'identify tech artifacts by sight' cybernetic really brings out my inner Brotherhood of Steel.
As I'll look at a guy and go 'He has an artifact I don't know...no, no. Don't kill him just to find out what it is'
extremely specific qud fact: all of the robots that lay mines down are always referred to as "she" by the in-game text, despite most robots being referred to with neutral pronouns
๐ฅ
Oh, my apologies. I kept chasing her around.
Shouldn't be rude to robots
I want to get a positive reputation with them
it's a good habit to get into
positive robot rep (or even neutral rep) will take you far
It does seem like most of my 'oh, I'm dead' happens from 'OH CRAP, A GUN TURRET'
I had a very embarassing sudden death from finding a pair of Chaingun turrets like 3 spaces away from the starting town
robots, along with insects, have some of the most lethal enemies for their tier around; the distinction usually being that insects are dangerous for their tier because they tend to be specialized in ways that just happen to make your life hell for the stage of the game you're at, and robots are just generally able to kill you with cartoonish efficiency
speaking of insects being specialized to fuck with you at their tier: I am the luckiest bitch alive, I'm at a late game area and ||a gamma moth gave me Triple-Jointed lmao||
||always gamble, kids ๐ ||
more late game spoilers: ||i got horns this run from my first gamma moth ๐ ||
ayyy
||I just bumped regeneration to 5 afterwards so I'm sticking to my gambling strategy of "just take the win and quit early lol"||
...oooh, a Solar Cell
I think I'm good with ranged for quite some time with this punchy character
Electrobow with Solar Cell!
I like tinkering
Though I need to get more Blueprints
So is it worth keeping this Symbiotic Firefly with me for the insect problem? I was a bit put off by 'If I unequip it, it dies'
so, by the time you have items you really, really want to put in the floating nearby slot, there's a good chance you'll either have gotten your rep with insects up in other ways, or will have found something worth making insects dislike you again. But also, it does work as an emergency "slap this on when you encounter insects you Cannot deal with"
nods
Fair enough.
Right now my only item in floating is the Portable Beehive, which takes up Back and Floating
And just keeps slowly feeding me more honey
And also giving me a surprisingly good def bonus
oh, that'll be one of the better back slot items up until you need to actually use Floating Nearby for other things
2 DV is very nice early on in your back slot
...I think I found a potentially better back slot.
Mechanical Wings.
These seem fun.
Though: The fact I found them in the middle of a blood splatter indicates maybe I shouldn't fly too high with these.
use caution with them, ha
the DV is going to be more useful most of the time, but you can swap onto the wings to be able to literally just fly away from any surface encounter into the overworld, if you're not lost
...what the hades is this? A magic glass lens asked me for 5 wenches and gave me this.
try using it on an object
A chair is running about the room.
So it gave me a Magician's Apprencificator
yes :)
So I was definitely also concerned because I thought the level cap was much lower than it evidently is
the level cap is "however high you want it to be"
it just takes increasingly difficult amounts of XP to get to higher levels as you run out of efficient ways to get it, but, getting to 35 or later by lategame is pretty reasonable
LMAO
Okay so, I actually did manage to inject enough rubbergum to land at the bottom of Golgotha with 1 hp remaining then regen it all back.
The problem was the cloaca slog was in the next room over and owned me immediately
I have explored exactly 10 tiles of Golgotha.
I injected the rubbergum, I drank the rubbergum soup, I ate the gum gum fruit (Wait, not that one) and then I nipped out of the room I landed in, grabbed a robot and immediately recoiled out of there.
I'm sure it has cool things but they are cool things I will discover later
I DID IT! I managed to do the skip and then make some very considered tactical moves to kill the slog and make it to the waydroid
The ludicrous hostility of the rest of the world has made spending time in Grit Gate all the nicer, I love this
crabs and disease ๐
Is 10 AV + DV 4 better than AV 7 + DV 11?
no, better to have AV specifically high than both middling
nods
Pondering because I'm starting to find better armour and it's like 'Okay, my knollworm skull is 1AV, 0DV but this steel helm is 2 AV -3 DV...that's a lot less dodge for some extra armour.
Having positive DV is still worthwhile. The DV-granting skills are really good because of this
But generally it's worth it to sacrifice some DV for a bit of extra AV
Okay, I'm now 9 AV + DV 7
Which is nearly the max AV I can manage
But with a DV that isn't below starting value
thats solid for mostly being on iron/steel/bone gear
endgame you get to like 20+/12+ or 15+/30+
...well, that seems beefy. I do like my electrobow providing light though.
On one hand: That would be more av
On the other hand: That's half my fucking carrying capacity
i almost never use fullerite armour tbh
i usually just wait until i find crysteel stuff after a mix of steel/bone/carbide/elastyne/plastifer stuff
I nded up needing to just leave it lying there as I couldn't carry it out. XD
Also: How are Heavy Weapons? I've found a Drum Loaded Missile Launcher and a Flamethrower.
Flamethrowers have nice utility for clearing some places.
pretty terrible without skill investment (-25 speed is extremely punishing unless you have a lot of extra move speed), they tend to be more situational than other ranged weapon types, but one of the best weapons in the entire game is heavy
Heavy, heavy ammo or power hungry yeah
Fair. Mostly working out what to do for backup ranged on my Very Punchy Person.
Oh you would probably want something lighter for that
Right now I have an Electobow, an Overloaded Laser Pistol and those 2 heavy weapons (Though I only just found the rocket launcher). Though I basicly only use the Electrobow.
Electrobow is pretty solid as a side weapon imo
I like how it actually goes where I aim it
It's one of highest accuracy weapons as I recall
thats extremely good
its called the sparbine by the community (sparafucile + carbine) and is commonly the best weapon for a while when you get it
I was debating swapping from the Electrobow to it but I like how the bow glows. XD
there is another kind of bow called a Turbow which scales damage with your strength and is a very solid option for very high strength characters. Arrows are kind of hard to get enough of
Oh and I just randomly found the Worst Banner lying about.
oh thats good if you have some lava
Oh? For throwing into the lava?
:3c
I think I might test out my new flamethrower
I really like tinkering.
This felt like a good investment of bits to make this Functionally Weightless
I have both because I like Making Things.
...freezing ray says that it adds temperature changing to attacks with my hands (I got it from cooking)
Would that also apply to my Cybernetic Hands?
Yeah, they were my starting cybernetic becuase I wanted to Punch Things.
Oooh, new heavy weapon. Damage seems...low. I'm sure it's got some fun gimmick though.
Ah yes game. That's definetly waht I wanted to scope
@echo ferry
YEAHHHHH
Hmm, I got my shit rocked by the boss on F3 of Bethesda Susa. I love that just when I thought I'd become a fuckin murder hurricane I get smacked back down. I'm playing on Roleplay for this character tho so for my next try, maybe... I exploit all my new gas attacks?
I have sleep and corrosion. Combined with my paralysis stinger I'm a really potent duelist if I can charge in.
cw for all of the foulness in the regular Dracula Flow https://www.tumblr.com/undomesticated-catgirl/731389045069004800/im-a-snapjaw-im-bitin-the-fart-bubbles-in-the

yup yup
wild rice can be a little dangerous!
lol
What do I do with clones of myself? They're a bit annoying, I guess I can just get them killed.
not much
unless you find a clone of yourself that you didnt clone yourself to make
thats where things get interesting
you should jump into one
doubt
That sounds likely to result in Horrible Death
...yes, found the second tier of Hand Bones!
...oooooooh...
I'm not sure what this is but I love it.
Pity about the God Damn Weight (But at least the +3 str will carry some of it.)
Relic variant on fullerite plate, looks like
Didn't realize until just now that there are alternate descriptions for those
ye, relics get fancier description based on the base
based on the base
I english well today
It cost me an arm and a leg (Literally) but I got a serious improvement in my armour.
'Hey, I'll step throug this high tech portal. I'm sure it will work out'
Gets immediately mauled by some massive crock that rips limbs off every second hit
So now I'm down most of my grenades and injectables
but I got myself Crysteel Gauntlets, Boots and Coronet as well as that relic armour.
Awww, you've met a sultan croc
New strategy I figured out that isn't on the wiki! If you are backed up against the water, you can "move" towards those tiles, and if Haggadas is in the water, you'll swing. If he isn't, you will just get the regular "do you want to start swimming" prompt!
Eliminate a full third of his possible positions. From there my guesses were right, gas was the answer. If you can stand with 3 tiles of water to your north and a wall of gas to your right, and Haggadas is taking acid hits which will go into the system log, you can deduce his position as one of 5 spots and easily guess 3 of those.
this is what all the fights in hunter x hunter feel like
arms grow back!
Hell yeah
There's an acheivement for ||200 || glimmer, if you want a target to shoot for :3
oh hell fucking yes
crazy fucking L holy shit
I have barely messed with psionics at all beyond splashing like a single point into something bc I wanted to take Evil Twin. And I've never played an Esper. Are Espers just sorta forced to crank their Glimmer high or else hoard unspent mutation points?
if you choose to go pure esper, you don't have to pump your glimmer too high, since you can spend points to raise the levels of your current mutations instead of buying new ones. The way psychic mutations work, your Ego boosts all your mutation levels, up to your cap, which in turn raises glimmer; so pumping up individual mutations will raise glimmer at a relatively even pace, since you're gaining 1:1, whereas buying new ones will start to snowball, as every new mutation spikes your glimmer by 1 plus your Ego bonus (which can easily be +6 or more by the time your build is rolling)
that said, if you're going Esper, chances are you're accepting the consequences of huge glimmer in exchange for the advantage of Ten Billion Cranked Psychic Powers
otherwise it'd be more efficient to just be a mixed mutant build for whatever mental mutations you want
I am personally a mixed mutant fan because being able to take advantage of both Ego raising some mutations and rapid advancements on a select few physical mutations is pretty nice
yeah i'm playing my esper build as a mad dash to outpace the animals coming after my ass
50 million mutations
kill everything
subsume their minds
10 morbillion glimmer
I briefly got the 20+ glimmer message on my true kin, which weirded me the fuck out.
I found a relic on my consul build that gave me a psychic mutation and then I made some food that gave me a second one
And I suddenly got the 'hunters are after you' message
Mixed builds definitely help in dealing with the hunters.
my favourite silly thing that happens with glimmer is when you have 2 headed you basically cleanse confused immediately. so you get the popup for going down a glimmer tier, press ok, then get the popup for going back up and press ok again
immunocompromised run
Suddenly, you feel itchy
||"your vision blurs"||
honestly, "this is my son he has every disease" run would be really funny
take telepathy to make it possible to do the main quest while you have every disease and just lock in
this is the way IMO. even a char that is going to be "full esper" is often best off taking a physical mutation at start to not miss out on rapid advancement
then start with precognition and carefully manage your character seed with eater's nectar etc
i'm a big fan of two heads on those builds because it lets you out-esper your enemies while also not instantly dying if your head gets cut off
What should I do if I'm not a mutant and I start getting hunted by the anti-psyker guys? ๐
(It briefly happened to my ego-focused consul due to having a relic + food both giving me a mental mutation)
the answer to that is ||squash them since they won't be scaled very much, on account of your glimmer being low for your level; so just shoot the fuck out of them or charge them down lmao||
...can truekin get the 'I eat your soul for more ego' that you get from them?
I shoudl test this
yup
Truekin are actually pretty amazing espers if you can get that going
It's just enough of a pain in the arse that by the time you can seriously do it you're probably really overpowered already
I have a relic that gives me cyrokinesis and a food that lets me confuse people!
This was a character that wasn't really intended to be doing anything esper-y.
But I wanted to max out 'Your robot is my robot'
And see what the biggest robots I could steal were
Found a chain pistol with clairvoyance and a revolver with teleportation, on one of the characters.
Felt very early sci-fi novel
But what if you stole a ||mech||
ironshank cured
now i just need 1 cider 1 wine 3 sap
which should be extremely easy
nvm sap sucks
okay legs and tongue are all back
Sunder Mind is so good for Bethesda Susa
okay does anybody have any recommendations for Bethesda Susa lmao
I'm not sure what layer the ||mechanimist temple|| is supposed to be at and everything is hard to fight
bethesda susa is the point of the game where the only real options are "prep for everything", "lock the fuck in" or "bullshit like mad and just sprint to the exit"
no matter what, you need to bring cold resist gear; aside from that, if you want to prep to do it legit: ||Bring attacks that bypass AV for the cragmensch; use the sparbine or some other strong long-range attacks for the gyrohumors (or otherwise get good resists in elements other than cold); and bring crowd control or strong AoE for the twinning lampreys, or use the normality gas from killing plastronoids to turn off their twinning ability||
if you want to do it the cheesy way, ||bring a Spiral Borer and just dig down, or use phasing, teleportation and/or Juke to just slip past crowds and walls and beeline for every stairway down||
bethesda susa is a "can you handle multiple layers of bullshit happening at once" check and it does not hold back in that regard
Sunder Mind hard carried me through the ||3 healing pool layers with legendary trolls||
but below that point shit is just fucked up
like you were saying, multiple layers of bullshit lmao
I found an armour that has Cragmensch Disguise!
That got me to the trolls, then I got my ass kicked
My cleaves manage to penetrate Cragmenschen and... something I've done... has made Twinning Lampreys neutral to me. It's all the gyrohumors now.
I'm staying on Roleplay until I finish this first run I think
I'm still trying to get through Bethesda Studios but making robots neutral to me likely helped a bit.
The trolls are however more of a problem.
The invisible one in particular
oh, twinning lampreys are fish, so if fish like you, twinning lampreys will be chill
in a pinch, it's not impossible to bypass the door without the key if you're genuinely stuck on a troll
it just takes a way to destroy or bypass the wall or door
So just go on a trip through the wall with my pickaxe?
pickaxe might not be fast enough
my personal suggestion for a true kin is ||a recipe that grants Phasing|| or ||using Slam on the door with a high enough strength||
both will get through without risking having the last troll obliterate you
or, actually, ||the wall is probably easier to Slam than the door||
this game is too hard for my peanut brain
I'm not sure what this is but I don't think I'm finding four of them any time soon.
lmao
UH
do not open the genocide box pls
I fucking did it! I used the elevator to skip the floors that had the most gyrohumors, and then just took it slow
I knew about the juicer with the rocket launcher ahead of time so I managed to avoid that nightmare, but there were a couple scares where a cloneling was doing its thing multiple rooms away
What an evocative dungeon! Hacking apart monsters whose blood almost immediately freezes to the floor, fuckin gas and steam everywhere, mysterious cryogenic medical facilities giving way to some sort of ice prison...
bethesda susa is cool as fuck
and the game does not get any less evocative from there, although it takes a bit to get to a place that's more elaborate than bethesda susa
its so crazy how much game there is in here
Even once I beat Bethesda Susa that's still just my entry into the deeper areas of the jungle
just clowned the third troll
||i had run past him to go further down and just Disintegrated on top of the security door, but got teleported out of Susa by one of my clones shooting a temporal vortex or whatever||
when i came back he was standing on the stairs down to his level and i literally just held D on his ass
cooked
this is so casually evocative
its easy to miss because it's such an elegant metaphor but it's saying that I'm a "larval" esper
its easy to miss bc i missed it until i was like "ok wtf is this actually" lol
qud
Lmao
I got my hands on some Sphynx Salt, what should I use it for?
I can use it to cheat the RNG right?
...nevermind, you only get that if you're Truekin.
immunity to confusion is very nice against some enemies and one specific endgame boss
WOO!
||I got my first one with my high Avoid character, literally just chilled away from a wall while it burned itself out firing at me||
eventful day
ayy, nice
"Babadale, site of the Psychic Incident"
oh that's a psychic incident alright
are historic ruins predestined to be in your run as they are
what does that mean?
like
i've seen some names recur
i don't know what makes a historic ruin different from a normal one
are there certain locations that will always show up bc they're important to the game's lore or smth?
Historic sites:
- Have an association with one of the games procedurally generated sultans (I.e. not resheph)
- Have a unique map tile pulled from a specific set used for historic sites.
- Are inhabited by the cult of said sultan and thus the creatures they made friends with. The creatures will be of the cult faction rather than their normal faction.
- Have a legendary creature, a pink chest containing a Relic lost by that sultan, and cybernetic wedges on the bottom floor
There are a couple locations which are guaranteed and quest related that show up and aren't on the map at the start. they aren't ruins though. the rest of the static areas are on the map from the start
ok sick ty
generally the farther east you go on the world map the harder monsters will be in those areas and historic sites are no exception. They are jam packed with monsters and some combinations can be very dangerous.
There's also a guaranteed secret that reveals a historic site if you go 1 tile north in Joppa you will find a statue there which reveals it.
ok so don't go to the historic site in the moon stair one tile from the edge of the map, got it
Yeah definitely not until you're ready
fucking... a Galgal came out of a space time vortex inside a very low tier historical site and pasted me
Had a legendary in CoQ who was
- admired for pouring asphalt on someone's enemy.
- hated for torching someone's village
- hated by someone for burning one of their leaders in effigy
I think they were just all around an asshole
I found a warden that was hated by trees for eating their babies.
Eating an apple can have long-term diplomatic conseqences I suppose
...which is ironic, because that's why fruits exist. I want a sentient tree and/or dryad embodiment of same that's kind of a bit too pushy about getting you to eat their fruit.
uncomfortably forward dryad
this achievement is so fucking funny to get
Ayy, tile with 2 dromad traders that's 63 deep
oh, that's pretty good
I remember I had a run where I found 3 dromad traders on the same screen in the subterranean moon stair
that was quite a surprising find
Right under a settlement that I have a recoiler for as well. Bored there from the surface.
My only worry going up or down there is a tile somewhere in the 50s that's on fire with all kinds of explosions going off constantly.
I'd use a programmable recoiler to set up a checkpoint there
haven't got my hands on one yet
Just finished the ||Grit Gate defense|| mission
now I need to figure out ||what the fuck is going on in the Rainbow Wood||
i need to cure my fucking monochrome first though so
time to go find ink
I kind of want to find a ||time cube|| before doing this one myself
can i play a rat bastard playthrough of qud
where i just do every quest terribly and chaos spiel etc etc
how much can i fumble the bag before the game falls apart
quite a lot
You can use clairvoyance and teleport to reach barathrum study early and then kill him
Also you should water ritual all of joppa and murder them to get multiple traitor penalties
I heard Crime and Punishment is important to have on me for when I talk to Barathrum. Is this like 'extra ending' change or 'fun easter egg' change?
...fuck, I have no idea. I'll have to find out myself by trying it ๐
I hadn't even thought of that as a possible variable in the ending
Qud has occasional Uncle At Nintendo energy and this is one of those times
it really does
I won't lie, the entire ending had me going "what the fuck? what the FUCK?" the whole way through, at least the first time I went through it
and even after beating it a second time with more knowledge going into it, it still felt like I was missing some things
I will say one thing that might not be immediately apparent about a specific late-game thing, which I will put under extreme spoiler tags if you don't want to be spoiled on possible ways the ending can go: ||peace is, in fact, an option with the Girsh, not just in terms of raising reputation but in terms of how the ending plays out (so long as you're thorough with it)||
I managed this on my second full run and holy shit it was a task just to ||find all of the fucking Nephilim, since three of the five lairs are randomized, one of them being randomized to be "fucking anywhere lol"||
all my apes
the gyre wights i can talk with keep saying sus shit
like ||the plague is what flushes the core and allows the berries to grow||
there's so many secrets to uncover in this game lol
Which makes me wonder if it's possible for ||two of them to appear in the same place||
that's the idea
so (spoilers), ||Qas and Qon always share a lair, but that lair is a random location just under the Moon Stair, Rermadon's is always in a random location just under Lake Hinnom (and maybe also the palladium reef? idk if they both count for its spawning), Shug'ruith is always DEEP in the earth, and Agolgot and Bethsaida have set locations. So it's possible Shug'ruith could have the path to its lair overlap with another? but otherwise it's just Qas and Qon who share a lair||
I never actually ||built the golem|| in Caves of Qud
In my hundreds hours in it I either died, lost interest in the game for the moment, or just went - let's try another character instead
||tomb of the eaters|| is fun as hell
It's my favourite of what I played
Think by now I can confidenly take on ||cherubs|| so stealing ||a sultan mask|| should be fine.
Hey also you know what nobody's said about caves of qud in all the reviews, that I love? Loot. The loot in Caves of Qud rules. I love that because money is heavy you're constantly flipping loot into trade goods.
And then crafting new shit with anything you can't sell. Once I have the Int for it and I hit Tinker 3 I've got a blueprint for Spheres of Negative Weight and I'm gonna go completely sicko mode
welp, either I'm forgetting something or my questline broke after decoding the signal
Did you remember to actually talk to Q Girl
The quest log should be pretty straightforward
Did you turn the quest in then wait for the guy to go down and chat to Barathrum?
waited couple of days, off and on the map
sadly just went with the easy way in the end
i remember buying so much (syrup? i forget) on my One Game
honey
the land of honey and also more honey...
i should actually play qud but seeing all those achievements and then "you died." is really funny
i get extreme levels of brain activation out of trading up high-weight high-value items for low-weight high-value items
every time i see some data disc or something i buy it for being a pound and worth 400 drams
you guys are so right about the loot
let me find an image I psychic attacked a friend with the other day
"please help me budget, my inventory is dying"
"carry less gemstones"
"no"
I found a historic site full of ||glittermensch|| and I gotta say, I have never seen a game ||procedurally generate a dungeon that thematically traps you with your own accursed avarice. (I, of course, just spent more points on four-legged to carry it all)||
only 77 Spheres away
sadly not a tinker build lmao
so true
I think "accidentally recreating dead money" might be one of the most fascinating bits of emergent game-world logic I've seen in qud, and that's saying something given that I've seen canyons melt into lava before; cause it requires a game with an encumbrance system where the weight of nearly all objects matters (there's a few exceptions like credit wedges but those are very valuable because of that), a game with ||specific enemies that drop Super Valuable Loot as opposed to just gear||, and a system for generating historic sites that lets them be filled with specific themed enemies for the whole dungeon instead of just scattershotting all of them as with normal randgen
my wishlist for theoretical future updates is honestly stuff that enhances or expands on those middle-zone random things; more ways for historic sites to be themed, more biomes that layer over existing terrain, stuff like that
imagining a qud where cold-themed sultans get a bethesda-susa style cooling effect over their historic sites, salt-themed sultans get enemies with thirst-thistle type attacks, travel sultans get static space-time vortices as portals to other places...
Oh thats a cool idea
Coq's is definitely very good at this sort of emergent storytelling. I dont think I have a screenshot anymore but I remember about when I was exploring one of those RNG cave-layer and in the middle of some huge spider web there was just some random chamber- a chest, bed, torch and a bookshelf I think, seemingly a glitch in worldgen cause I didnt see anything like it anywhere else. I still sometimes think about implied fellow cave-explorer
I've had this exact same experience, it was pretty great.
Had to get creative with it
Hm, Truekin aren't full humans either are they?
I just realized they also only need like 2 drams of water a day
This is a fairly small patch, but one that finally adds mouse-based movement! Beyond that, the reason it's so small is because I've mostly been focusing on adding the Monk, who is coming along nicely. Still, any feedback realated to the new mouse system is appreciated. Gameplay: -Laid a lot of groundwork for the monk. -You can now use items whil...
QOL:
-Added full mouse support for movement. You will still need the keyboard to summon menus and the like, but outside of this, everything in the game can be done with the mouse now.
I don't think we really know. All we know is that they're presumably not mutants (or at least with stable genome) and "Aristocrats"
They could be GMO humans for all we know.
well 2 gallons of water is like 1280 drachms right
i feel like it's a gameplay abstraction for sanity
Also I imagine an element of 'Even outside of the combat-supporting augmentations, I wouldn't be surprised if the default for a truekin doesn't have some augmentation'
Yeah that tracks. The flavor text and the caste system suggests they're just as wack as the residents of Qud
https://wiki.cavesofqud.com/wiki/Psyberneticist Psyberneticist description suggests a Song, is that truekin lore I don't know?
Psyberneticists are members of the Mechanimists faction. Five psyberneticists are always guaranteed to be found in the Temple of the Rock in Bethesda Susa. Additional psyberneticists can be found as random encounters throughout most of Bethesda Susa, including the surface and many of the lower levels. Similar to most creatures, they also have a ...
I'm not sure those guys are truekin, as they don't have cybernetics you can use and do have mutations
Yeah no they're definitely mutants but I was wondering if "The Song" is something that happens to cyborgs or what
iirc, "The Song" is related to Ptoh? I think?
So if I understand this one statue in Omonporch: ||Resheph caused the Gyre by opening a spaceport and trying to contact aliens, but then also defeated the Gyre afterwards?||
It reminds me of Homeworld.
3 stats increases in a row in CoQ from cooking with drops of nectar
#raxdflipnote #gamblecore #shorts

Should I bore down and fight ||Agolgot|| in CoQ.
late into my esper run
the most difficult part of this run by far is my own psychic glimmer lmfao
i'm mostly chilling when i don't run into a hunting esper
then i just get sent to the moon
the only solace is getting to eat their souls sometimes
I think Chimera Hunters would be a funny mod tho
Absorb their limbs instead of their Ego
lol
akiraaaaaa
i like the various particle effects they added at whatever point between then and release, i blasted a baboon with my mind and they just kind of dust
Yeahhh, I saw that with laser beams too
Also a dope shockwave when I got like 4 penetrations on a swing
mind sundering esper hunters will never get old
coughing baby vs my giant fucking brain
I think I perfected the ||siege at Grit Gate!|| I don't think I lost anyone
Oh actually whoof, ||rip Shem-1||
really not sure why i was so hesitant to play espers for so long. it's like having sci fi jdams
"line of sight" you say? clairvoyance, go!
huh; apparently NPCs can be lost
something i'm noticing that i didn't the first time i played is that its armor debate is less of a question of "DV vs AC" and more "how much AC can you carry." as an esper i'm running into a problem where for example i had to trade off my entire wealth for shiny rocks to wear fullerite
and i can't drink rocks...
Not with that attitude
I'd say the AV vs DV thing is generally about getting to a specific AV - because you always need it to be within a certain range - and then maxing DV after.
as deliberately absurd extremes:
a) with 30DV and 1AV you'll die very quickly
b) with -5DV and 25AV you'll be invulnerable to most things until you run into something that ignores AV, and then you die very quickly
c) with 20-25DV and ~12AV you'll survive most things that aren't explosions or otherwise undodgeable and AV-ignoring
right that's good to know, farthest i got was that single game december 2022 where, as someone brand new to the game, i got all the way to the space elevator and then died the second after loading my save in april
makes my achievements screen tell a story
(~25dv makes you immune to regular projectiles iirc. normal projectiles cannot autohit.)
I have a loathing for exploding seeds. They are my bane.
ultimately the only truly universal defense is hp, so a combination of hp + AV (which reliably reduces the damage you take from ~90% of enemies) is usually the top priority in the early to mid-game.
Yeah I'm currently in b) right now
until I find armor that is both good and light
NPCs can get lost and ask you for directions, and it gives you XP?? I have played this game for years and never knew this
Also, I honestly just try to balance AV and DV most of the time and just make sure I have good toughness for the HP
The most dangerous shit often does not care about AV or DV
Eat 5000 sower's seeds
Actually I do optimize for one thing, usually - elemental resists
I think my most consistent early-midgame body armor is the rubber suit just to minimize random electrical spike damage
My dervish build is having a very interesting problem in the Rainbow Wood
I'm getting disarmed and immediately dropping all of my weapons and losing an insane amount of combat power immediately with zero recourse because I've also got a huge QN debuff
I'm currently plucking away at the final quest
||the nephilim are just mean lmfao||
||the putus mechs are already fucked up||
yeah and what's more is she wandered into the desert with purpose. i lost her under the veil of darkness. i was trying to follow her to see where she was going
went from aimlessly standing around in the six day stilt to Departing
wonder if she would've led me anywhere
main character
Beaten Caves of Qud for the first time!
All things considered, this was a mistake.
With how much time it took to ||hunt down all nephelim and Ehalcodon was so fucking scary|| (Caves of Qud about very end spoilers)
How do you even beat ||Ehalcodon||? Just outpunch it?
so, ||I just made nice with all the Girsh on my first "perfect" run, but I did find a phase-conjugate Hand-E-Nuke in that same run, and Ehalcodon is omniphase, so, there's some pretty doable ways to kill qem, I think||
||just keep projecting miniaturized atom bombs into the astral plane and it'll work eventually I'm sure||
What I did was
||Step one - approach Ehalcodon and state your intentions to kill qem. Step two - watch qem summon a bunch of copies. Step three - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, run around throwing tier 3 nades to clear girshling and then some more AAAAAAAAAA, until clones disappear. Step four - charge at Ehalcodon making as many attacks with chance to decapitate or turn into gem boosted by two pairs of precision nanon fingers. Repeat.||
I actually just beat Qud too
||Only killed the one of the nephilim that shows up at Reclamation though, and I never really explored the Moon Stair or Chavvah||
||Ehalcodon is basically a turn based bullet hell experience when copies are out.||
definitely check out ||Chavvah|| on your next run, ||especially if you have Temporal Fugue||
i was running with the jankest build of all time
i went through the entire game with no teleport
yeah it did do a lot for me
once i figured out the gimmick of the ||nephilim || it was p easy
||which one did you fight?||
the hardest thing was the ||High Mecha||
||it was a wall creeper that fired three lasers before its chitin softened for big damage||
||ah, it was Shug'ruith||
||if you try to kill all of them, let me know how it goes, they are all !!fun!! in their own way||
||fucking Qon||
also the fucking plot
||i was thinking resheph was the one who started the gyre plague but i thought it was necessary for the world to flourish||
||what that gyre wight was talking about was killing all intelligent life lmao||
||me when I tell resheph that his plan broke because the Girsh are my friends now (we are having soft tacos when I get back to qud)||
||can that actually happen||
||the soft tacos are implied||
||actually I guess you could acquire a bunch of taco supremas and trade them to the Girsh Nephilim when you make nice with them for the bit. Qud Taco Night% Run||
after seeing a salt kraken as a water-ritualable creature
i can't help but wonder if i can just make everyone like me with enough searching
i saw a three-dimensional pyramid warden even
kept making my screen all wavy
Hey everyone! The 1.1 NPC Update for Terminus: Zombie Survivors is now live! This is the first major update since the 1.0 full release, focusing on new NPC mechanics and improvements, including hostile NPCs, combat with survivor groups, and companion AI automation. Hereโs whatโs new: 1. Introduction of Hostile NPCs {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39806833/b4...
well that's fun, in salt marshes, close to Joppa
a warden with two psychic thrall dromad traders
who sell up to zetachrome sometimes
look I only wanted to find the apprentice
but I think Joppa might be in trouble
Oh no
Oh hey, my artifex started off with instructions on how to make Eater's Nectar
That seems good, if I can find the parts for it
it's good, but keep in mind that tonics each have a unique item you need for them in addition to the bits
and it will probably be Hardโข๏ธ to get the ones for eater's nectar injectors even when you get to the area they can be found
Fair.
So it's 'would be good but unlikely to matter for a long-ass time, if ever'
...god damn, that's cool. If only I'd not bought all that strength and cudgel skills. XD
I'm not sure what this does but I feel like it's not good.
Also: I'm going to cook with it
Omm Nomm Nomm, tasty.
now, did you survived?
my neutron flux meals never killed me despite having Many :(
rest in peace my last character in Caves of Qud
they were looking through historic site ruins that had some cultist templar squires
got hit in the face with a stun grenade and killed before stun wore off
I just watched a very silly killing spree in Six Day Silt
Converted Phylactery Squire
I run in, one of those flying dragon things chases me.
So he summons the holographic templar.
...who is not the friend of anyone here.
So he just starts stabbing everyone in reach and since he's a hologram nobody can actually kill him.
I ended up having to quietly stab the Squire in the back after a bit and go 'Guess I'm not coming back here until you're no longer angry about the fact I saved your lives'
It's not even attacking me and I've nearly died twice just 'being in the vicinity of it killing everything around me'
The missiles it fires can be dodged
That's the thing, it's not even attacking me. Robots like me!
I'm just Nearby While It's Fighting Other Things
Lmao
I guess I'm just Foreverimmune to cold, ever
I imagine so?
where was that during my esper run ๐ข
My defences are not insane yet, with one major exception. XD
just be careful with plasma
Oh? Moreso than normal for 'that sounds very hot'?
being coated in plasma reduces all your elemental resists by -100, and it can go into the negatives
it doesn't come up often, but it's worth being aware of
well, doesn't reduce acid resist, but that's not much help when you're frozen solid or caught on fire
(very few enemies ever use plasma - I think the most common are templars and the like who randomly spawn with plasma grenades. Conversely, this is also how you yourself can bypass enemy resistances.)
Huh, interesting. So if I get hit with plasma I'm unprotected.
...or maybe a bit better than that.
It's showing 100 but it's more like 140 for me.
yeah, having resistance past 100 helps with that
...entertainingly, I think if I put the right gear on, I could get nearly 200.
I found some weird armour that gives 50 to both heat and cold resistance
And 50% to heat and cold damage
Which would be great if I wasn't a True Kin with no access to either of those beyond 'get a flamethrower' or 'throw grenades' XD
My damage types are 'Punch', 'Laser' and 'Bullet' ๐
...will I miss much if I give up my Back Slot for 'Extra Gun Slots'? I've got a Gun Rack cybernetic sitting about that looks fun even with me mostly being 'punch' focused.
depends on your build
gun rack's often considered one of the biggest selling point of playing truekin to begin with
if you've got akimbo, absolutely worth it no matter what; if not, consider getting akimbo if it's not too much of a build detour lol
if you've not got any really good back slot items it's worth it, I'd think
I do have Akimbo! This is for Allzia, my Pistolero + Long Blades Truekin.
Who now has 4x Chain Pistols, for 'How much ammo can I consume in a single turn'
She was going to be just pistols and then I found this:
(It didn't have a name at the time)
And I went 'Well, I guess I'm also long blades now'
Some crazy nutter in Bethesda Whatsy tried to kill me with it
Holy shit
There is a guaranteed named enemy called Saad Amus who always has this equipped
That's them!
I only won because they kept getting frozen by all the cryogenic mist
But I had 100 cold resistance
So whenever they froze I just kinda unloaded into them with 4 chain pistols
I think I found a croc that ended a few character's runs.
nevermind
Turns out there's a randomized village that just decided 'Nocturnal Apex' was some sort of village item
On the plus side: This is fantastic for getting me lightweight cash.
lol

Hey so I was looking around Qud stuff, and here's a fuckin wild connection for yall!
So, Agate Severance Star, she's the OC of Eva Problems, a fanfic author and moderator for the CoQ discord. She's who the Carbide Chef skill is named after, she wrote some books in universe.
I went to college with one of Eva's ff14 guildies in like 2015! I remember when she first got into Caves of Qud cuz she talked about it on a podcast she was running at the time! I talked to her a couple times--no way she remembers me but yeah, just super cool to realize I've known of her this long
OMG that's so lovelyy
Small world when you collect all the cool nerds out there
My husband says I have "small world disease"
*berates your tits*
I should look at crael again
I am ashamed to say i mostly do that game with Minotaur Fighter
Rift Wizard is back! Plus it's now in 1.0! Still plenty of updates promised for the future, which is exciting! Chris, with a pathological need to be the best Wizard, will try to 100% the sequel just like the first game! Oh, and naturally there will be dumb builds. SO LET'S GO!
Stream the Box is lightly edited for your viewing ...
oh hey shattered pixel dungeon updates to add a new class
Cutting down ickslugs in Tomb of the Eaters has briefly turned Qud into Path of Achra
I did the Tomb! Wow what a cool scripted sequence. Genuinely scared me that I'd fucked up. ||the svardym in the area after you wake up are a little bit harrowing but only enough to give you a scare.|| But now I feel sorta aimless ||building the golem.|| Especially the power source and the follower.
It has never been more Morrowind than this lol
i literally cheated through that whole quest
because i saw the requirements and was like "No."
it's less difficult than you expect
I do have a lot of good reputation but the problem is it was all done west of the rainbow wood. All my friends are weak bastardss
I'd assumed the mechanimist schism guys at the bottom of bethesda susa would be hard but I went to nab the antipope and he was Easy!
the ||golem|| can definitely be a little aimless but it gives you a chance to explore and find some of the neat optional end-game stuff
in particular, ||I would poke around the Moon Stair if you haven't already||
some of my favourite npc are there
I made it to Yd Freehold and there's a historical site directly south of it so I've got a chance to get a power bump and the zetachrome weapon
Is the quest to secure ||Chavvah|| worth my time? Like is it fun or interesting? Because I have 2 neutron fluxes and a polygel so I could absolutely just skip it if I wanted to.
I think it's worth it if you can safely traverse the Moon Stair without too much trouble
e.g. ||full flight + good ranged weapons|| or ||clairvoyance + teleportation|| or ||just having upgraded multiple legs and the ability to run really, really fast||
You can also use ||barrier to exit to the overworld map, then return to center of the tile to quickly leave a fight||
the ||chavvah|| quest gives you ||a good unique headpiece with an activated power, and - this one is unlikely but relevant - if you have Seeker Of The Sightless Way rep, you can learn a psychic power on the way. Also gives you rep to unlock the Chavvah recipe, which is very, very fun for psychic characters and multiattackers||
also, ||I love just going to chavvah and meeting the NPCs there every time, it's a fascinating place||
just make sure you have good escape tools when going there because you will need them on the way
Every time I've gotten warned about wanting to avoid certain enemies my first thought is "pssh, surely by now I've built a real demon! I've got multiple combat skill trees maxed out!"
And literally every time I've been humbled. It's wild. Can't wait to try and do the whole thing in Roguelike mode too
my first time meeting a chrome pyramid to a T

Woah that's a gra emote
the changes to extermination and assault tracking is really big
im pretty sure it means flimprint will actually be able to spend more time in research and fab out cooler items for a big build transmission in the endgame
hmm, xterm/assault tracking not being able to own you for free kinda huge actually
just got my first TOME victory w/ dwarf bulwark
sorta just bumped people until they fell over
Nice! Iโve never really made bulwark work, it always seems to fall apart for me around Daikara

I'm doing a crowdfunding campaign on backerkit for my new game: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/michael-brough/868-back
@supple dock this is very cute
This is my comeback game. It's a worthy one. The design is fierce strong. I'm building on work I've done before, letting go of nonsense limitations I was placing on myself about "not repeating myself" or whatever. I'm repeating myself, louder. I'm standing on the shoulders of a giant and the giant is also me. This is a collaboration between wise old dad Michael and eager young past Michael and we're both on fire.
I mean yeah 868 is famous
Oooh
the Trigun Stampede of Roguelikes
you're so fucking right damn
I am doing my first psychic in caves of qud, though they're barely a psychic. I just normally play True Kin. I am shocked by how few skill points and stat points I have. XD

...well, this looks nice.
But think of the poor poor water barons
hellll yes
the ruin of house isner falls off pretty fast if you're using it as a ranged weapon on a dedicated ranged attacker, but it's amazing as a sidearm on any build that uses ego
I have it sitting on my Vampire Themed Mutant. Who has Mental Shield, Ego Projection and Vim Syphon. Not the most mental mutations but Ego Projection getting more bonuses is good.
Right now she's got:
Triple Jointed
Wings
Regeneration
Mental Shield
Ego Projection
Vim Syphon
Albino
Funny thing: Taking off the Ruin drops my ego a point and thus reduces my glimmer below 20.
Hey all,Version 0.20.7b is out on stable branch. This is the last planned major update before 1.0 that I plan for December 2025. Here you can find the remaining "big" things. If you are interested in the updates as they are developed, or just want to chat, check out Lost Flame's Discord serverThe update contains several major changes, ...
Lore for that weapon||```The seven lords of House Isner feasted on boar gut and swilled wine from gilded cups in the ivy-strewn halls of their hold. They spared no concern for temperance, for the coffers of their house had swelled with gardeners' gold amassed through the sale of water drawn from the lords' wells. But as the gluttonous barons counted seven amongst their clan, so had become numbered their days of debauchery when the son of a beggared gardener swore a vengeful oath in the name of his father against the house of Isner.
The penniless boy beseeched a gunsmith of great repute to craft for him a pistol of the most exquisite artistry with which he could be sure to vanquish the seven lords, and in return the boy promised the smith all the spoils of the battle. The smith, who in the hazel eyes of the boy beheld the spirit of vengeance, agreed.
And so the boy, armed with the masterwork pistol, cast open the doors of the Hall of Isner with a fury that shook their iron hinges and seized upon the supping lords. Before any of them had yet set down their gilded cups, the boy unholstered the pistol and shot dead six of the sons of Isner. The last lord rejoiced at his fortune and reached for his hip from where he would sling a pistol of his own at the spent boy.
But as his crooked finger freed his holster's strap, the boy shot the lord between the eyes, for the smith had crafted for the boy a pistol with seven chambers and seven slugs. Such it was that on this day the house of Isner fell. ```||
Pity this character is kinda a ratshit pistol person. They've got the agi but no pistol skills. XD
So ti's just 'a pistol that gives +1 ego for my vim syphon'
Legendary
Ted is best girl ๐
that's the best use case for it past the earlygame
it's possible to always fire the last bullet if you reload only one at a time but it takes like three turns per shot
I'm still working my way through Bethesda Susa but I've got both Robots and Mechanimists at friendly.
So it's not been that bad save for the trolls.
I am for some reason thinking about Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup again. Anyone here play it?
I have played it but never really got anywhere in it
same but I've watched videos ๐
haven't tried 0.33 but it looks interesting. Especially the new talismans.
I played a bunch from 0.7 to 0.13 and it sure has been a minute
yeah lol
hunger's gone.
also, oddly, every kind of elf except deep elves. I'm not even sure if other types of elves exist in the lore anymore, or what (there's a few obtuse mentions?) "Do non-deep elves exist" is kind of my Pepe Silvia at this point.
I think my last run was around the introduction of formicids, I do fondly remember octopodes
formicids and octopodes still exist
My wins were with Centaurs and Mountain Dwarves and those are long gone
Mountain Dwarves are back, actually!
Basically, mountain dwarves got turned into hill orcs, and then hill orcs got turned into mountain dwarves. Now, anyone who worships Beogh is an orc.
Nice, my win was with one following Zin and I did probably the loudest Tomb end vault clear you could do
Currently, mountain dwarves are a lot like minotaurs who trade horns and some weapon skill for non-terrible magic (they're actually outright good at fire magic, for instance), improved spellcasting in armor, and the ability to enchant randarts.
You mean like raising a randart from -2 to +5 or whatever item limit it has?
Pretty wild gear opportunities from Okawaru then
exactly, yes, although they do still need to be able to get the scrolls for it.
apparently this also includes gear cursed by Ashenzari.
...oh, yeah, they also changed curses. Now the only way for gear to be cursed is to voluntarily curse your own gear for Ashenzari. Otherwise, gear can't be cursed. And if you worship Ashenzari you can also destroy your own cursed gear if you have to.
Is potion ID-ing still in then?
yes
and scroll ID-ing
and there are negative potions and scrolls still. It's just gear that's auto-ID'd when you pick it up.
and it can't be cursed.
That's not too bad, I've certainly had runs bricked by cursed weapons before
also, shapeshifting is new. They peeled out the Transmutations school of spells and made them into a totally different mechanic.
You can find talismans in the dungeon, and using one transforms you. Transforming or de-transforming takes 5 turns but the transformation has infinite durability, and most forms meld some or all of your gear slots but grant various benefits frequently including an improvement to your unarmed combat. But they do a pretty decent assortment of different things.
0.33 added a bunch more to make it so that shapeshifting can lead into lots of diffeent builds; like, some forms boost specific schools of magic, some boost unarmed combat and meld your weapons, some boost all your melee attacks and let you keep your weapons, some improve stabs... like, it's multi-purpose.
Instead of summon ice beast, be the ice beast
unfortunately the wiki doesn't have the 0.33 talismans up yet, but yeah. You can become a rime yak.
rimehorn talismans, providing Rime Yak Form. This large form melds weapons and armour, makes adjacent walls deal cold damage over a short while on attacks, and grants Ice-exclusive spellcasting success bonuses.
funny patch notes:
Monster deep elves and orc high priests now more consistently wear body armour, mostly gaining robes.
there's also a new spell (as of 0.33) called Eringya's Surprising Crocodile and that amuses me.
forgecraft is new to 0.33, yeah. It's mostly the summoning stuff that didn't summon traditional creatures per se and instead made automated structures or turrets, plus some similar-ish new stuff.
It also looks very melee focused.
A lot of the summons actively refuse to leave your side and others vanish if you walk away from them or only do stuff when you melee attack
kind of, yeah. Although I think there's been a real effort to make most skills usable for multiple builds, so there's some ranged stuff in there... but yeah. You start with a melee weapon if you have the relevant background.
Looks tricky for Deep Elves to use, despite their affinity for it. Though that's more a 'deep elves have affinity for basicly all magic' thing.
They seem very focused but then...so were Ghouls. XD
they're like... magic ghouls. Which works good because ghouls were kind of about the hunger mechanic as I understand it? They're also more conceptually interesting.
they got kind of scrapped. They're a talisman transformation now.
looking at everything Xom can do... I feel like there should be an increased chance to give you gifts you can't use, like giving a randart helmet to a minotaur.
@topaz plinth @versed geyser
what's the point of being a ghoul if you can't eat your fallen foes smh
but yes that looks like a good death knight-style species
Ooooh
...I am trying to decide if I should join the official DCSS IRC, and/or the Roguelikes discord which has a DCSS channel which is linked on the DCSS page, just to ask if non-Deep Elves exist in the current lore.
it would be really funny, in a stupid way, if there was a "watery moccasins" unrandart boots just to confuse people talking about DCSS's water moccasins.
random thought about DCSS lore: a blind person worshipping Ashenzari to be able to use the magic mapping effect (however that works) to be able to navigate better.
So I booted up TOME today on a whim. The RNG gods were not happy with me

Introducing a new and final class, the Kamikui! The name means "god eater" in Japanese, and as it implies, he is a half-human mutant who has sinned against nature and paid the ultimate price for power. Most of his slots are taken up by growths on his body

1.0 is here! A warm thanks to everyone who supported the game so far. It's been a long journey, although with more eyes on the game, more feedback, and more bug reports, I'm sure that it's not quite over yet. There's also the Japanese translation, which is over halfway done, but still needs quite a bit more time before it's ready for release. Bu...

I have 350 hours in Path. I adore it.
I've beaten it as about half of the prestige classes
I saw it on pnet, I said it looked like a game Strong Bad would play, I downloaded the demo, uh, and then some other stuff happened and I've beaten it up to I think ascension 26
