#Monster Hunter
1 messages Β· Page 39 of 1
the 2nd and 3rd pages are decos/augments
does world only have 1 shot type
ah yeah, seems to be
Yeh
that's less headache over packing normal/spread/rapid up at least
the omega quest was fun, playing with sos randoms was an unpredictable mess
support hunters were very stable but i was just on hind leg duty for the whole quest
same kind of deal as safi, where you're not really interacting with the monster much if you're not tanking, and without the monster switching aggro often, it can just feel like I'm hitting an hp sponge
I like the raid mechanics though
good vibes, will try to get the weapons crafted next time I play
hopefully it's more fun with a full party
or a light party i suppose
Trying Omega
Or well, tried
Some rando joined and carted twice and I forgor I was on fire and ate the last cart
It doesn't seem horrible
At least not in the same way Behemoth was
It's just an issue of actually fucking hitting the stupid thing because it flies around so much
from what i've heard, it's very dependent on going with the tank/DPS/healer setup that the game is nudging you towards, and is a much bigger headache if you don't do that
good news is that support hunters' AI has been tuned very well for the fight, to the point that people are having better luck with them than randoms
Interesting
trying to duo it with my partner didn't work out too well, so we're gonna try another day with support hunter backup
assuming that works out, i think i might do something like slap a tank build on one weapon and a healer build on another, then SOS into groups and swap to whatever they're missing
because most players are probably going to be trying to DPS through it
Makes sense
Hunts are usually won through attrition and resource management or skillful ultraviolence
Not so much through role division and battle tactics
it seems to be throwing a lot of people for a loop
i can personally attest that if you try to approach it like a normal hunt, you're gonna have a bad time
it has the tiniest attack windows imaginable, which is why you want somebody holding its aggro
Tried it at launch and my computer won't run it at any reasonable frames so i ended up refunding it
Been following the game tho cause after i finished up my World playthrough with my friends and beat Fatalis i wanted more
Im scared I've been seeing my lil brother die to the basic form of the new raid boss for the last 2 days with full party, Not a single win, and he's not bad. π
Me and my wife only made about 4 attempts last night but I'm not sure we've failed four times in a row on anything in Wilds previously
yeah, along with the fact that they can't cart and use heals pretty often
Freyja you could always try Sunbreak π π
Same here, but is late
π
i'm trying to emulate 4u but it is eating my ram in a way no other 3ds game has done before
gonna try to figure that out on friday...
I should continue on that
where are you at?

once iβm less rusty maybe iβll stand a chance, I wanted to make some of its gear
scary monstieβ¦
i haven't played in months so i need to shake the rust off a lot to consider it
felt
How do you draw Omega's aggro again?
hit da head
Pankrator needs massively less aggression, it feels like you can't do shit without "BOMBBOMBBOMBBOMBBOMBBOMBBOMBBOMBBOMBBOMB"
Like holy fuck, stop attacking for like three seconds so someone can draw aggro and not constantly have to dodge
Yeah that lines up with my experience too
It's hard to smack the head for aggro without getting wrecked
Funny thing: last night I was helping my partner put together armor builds since that's something she's not gotten her head around in Wilds yet. At one point I got curious as to how two builds' damage would compare, so I took her character over to the training area to whack the dummy a few times
She started acting abashed, I didn't know why until the intro cutscene for the training area started playing. She's something like HR 140
Apparently this whole time her approach has been that if she wanted to test something out, she'd go hit a monster and see what happened
Lowkey I think she might be a bit of a hammer god. She's been tackling the same hunts as me with worse armor, and I know for a fact that she's better at landing offsets than me. She routinely gets several per hunt when we play together
I've found that I can reliably draw aggro if I shoot it in the head with Wyvernfire and there's a few good openings that it will make for it
but uh, I have to remember to keep one in my pocket π
I just beat it for the first time with my wife and had a good time but I'm scared of the idea of there being a harder version, it took us about 10 attempts I think
lmao real
i honestly haven't compared two builds damage-wise before....
i should probably do that sometime, whether it be monsters or dummy
We'd just assembled a Lagi hammer build with 780 thunder attack, I was really curious to see what kind of numbers would come out of that π
i just kinda change the build and go "this seems like it should be better"
usually it's obvious like fitting in some wex or something, but I'm in the dark when trading raw for element or going WEX 5 > 4 for Burst 1, which I guess you might compare hunt times for instead

They weren't huge but they were respectable, especially considering that Agitator wasn't procced
And then we went on to take down AT Duna in 20 min, so it seems like it's reasonably effective
shell yeah
you reminded me that AT Duna exists lmao
I've got to give it a try sometime
i have heard Things about the big flop
It knows how to throw its weight around, that's for sure
I am glad that I hunted it though, the leg armor is fantastic for my GS build
I'm interested in seeing what AT Udra's armor brings to the table
Gross, I got into a cheater's lobby that apparently was instakilling Omega in each phase
Left without saving because fuck that shit
I either beat him fair and square or I don't beat him at all
On a brighter note, got my True Shadowbringer :]
I now wish to learn greatsword quite a bit more
Wilds GS is fun
it carried me through HR and a good ways into the endgame
with the offset added and blocking now viable, it really has become a swiss army knife of a weapon
It gets really good when you learn the bullshit that perforate enables
Nameley that basically anything can be chained into Perforate (the focus attack), and regardless of if that hits a wound or not, it inherits charge lvl & can then be chained into Leaping Wide Slash
shell yeah
i should definitely learn offsets at some point
maybe with hammer, GS, or IG
they're a system i haven't engaged with much
How does one get the Omega Kinsect?
That's from Savage Omega, I think
...actually pretty neat looking, wow
Here I thought Alloy armor wasn't good for anything drip wise
The one thing that'd make this better is if the sallet had a nice bevor
It has a very nice simple knight look
It's a bit basic but not bad
Wow they didn't fuck around with Omega Savage.
I guess Extremoth was real tough on release too.
Worth it for the SnS skin though. It demanifests when sheathed so you can run around without a big old shield stuck to your arm.
I still prefer Omega Savage to Extremeoth
Because support hunters?
I think I do too. I remember the strategy I used to clear Extremoth was just to make a mounting IG build and stay on his back the entire time to prevent most of the mechanics. π
Naw, Omega is just fundamentally less annoying by virtue of not having a gimmick like Behemoth's
Yeah he's AoE Spam City but at least his are just straight damage and not "this area is permanently locked off now lolololololololol"
Fucking Charybdis
...I mean Mustard Gas is but it feels less annoying somehow
And anyway you don't have the Comet/Ecliptic Meteor gimmick that was the source of a good half of that fight's pain-in-the-ass factor
If you're not the target of mustard bomb it's one of the best openings he has
Aye, yeah, kinda like how Charybdis was a good time to get a few free hits in
...also holy SHIT that fucking rules
Got that guardian glow drip
So how is the Omega fight?
Cursed to be in compiling hell
good vibes, I haven't tried Savage
same issue I have with safi where if you're not aggroed, it can turn into back leg dps simulator
but i'm sure it's more fun with friends/capable players, I got my only clear with support hunters who held aggro quite consistently
Normal mode is challenging but fair. Savage is the hardest fight in the game so far, but fun. Took my friend and I + 2 support hunters a decent number of tries to get it. I hear it's tough with randoms.
Gear doesn't revolutionize the meta but has some cool skills and looks good.
I know I'm a bit behind on stuff
Also I had a moment where I went oh fuck I hope my HR is above 100
Forgetting that its 165
Mostly I think its Lagi?
That I haven't done
Not counting AT stuff
Lagic and Sere I guess
Bring something mobile for Seregios
He's an annoying shitcunt bastard that constantly moves
...also, I've talked a lotta smack about the Doshaguma chestpiece before but it's genuinely starting to become one of my favorite chestpieces
That fur collar is glorious
Lagi gear is actually pretty decent for the Omega fight, given that the latter is weak to thunder and Lagi weapons can get truly silly amounts of thunder attack
...unfortunately that does require farming some of those [expletive deleted] sapphires
Aye, yeah, with the right setup Lagi gear SHITS Thunder damage
Need to go and make a set, and a Lagi greatsword
I tried using my Lagi longsword but Longsword just feels fucking miserable against Omega to me
SNS with guard up 3 is very comfy. You can block everything except Delta Attack.
Is it? I'll have to try that.
Seregios isn't bad
i have trouble finding attack windows
Omega is very ow
Y'all got any ideas for fashion sets I could build around Shadowbringer?
Trying to think of shit that's thematically fitting but I'm drawing a blank
I mean, besides the Bale set
Reckon I found one
And here I was thinking you couldn't style the Balahara helmet around anything
Nice
SICK
π₯
Damn that's pretty slick, Balahara + Arkveld?
I love the detailing on the Balahara stuff
Yeah, Balahara helm + gauntlets + legs with Arkveld chest and waist
...I'm not sure I like the direction Wilds' endgame balancing is going
Where it's "every single attack deals half to 9/10 of your health in one strike"
Archtempereds were kinda like that in world iirc
yep, that's my biggest problem with it
Yeah and they were pretty miserable for it
i like the increase to monster hp (for the most part), they feel like normal hunts now lol
but i'm mostly a solo player, and having lagi aggro on me 75% of the time (thank you brave palico for taking aggro sometimes
) and hitting me for 40-60% on the weaker attacks is a little exhausting
aggravated by both the fact that i'm at unstable 25-30 fps upscaled to 60 and sometimes can't dodge reliably, and skill issue
Yeah
Master Rank definitely came early this iteration.
i'm really happy to be getting world again

got some roadblocks out of the way, relearning slinger mechanics, and finally have some goals again
mostly 3 teo 2 raging brachy for master's touch and agitator, then i'll mess around in guiding lands and investigations
oh.
well
at least i never did more than 80 mega potions at once
i only discovered this because i wanted to try out bow, and the thought of making so many coatings 1 by 1 was miserable, so i looked up combining
you really end up needing it with valor pierce HBG
that one you end up packing Mass Combiner as an art even
"I DIDN'T HEAR NO GODDAMN BELL HUNTER, GET YOUR AS BACK IN HERE"
That goddamn Minstrel again
...god the physics on the barrel bombs are so weird
I'm beginning to understand why TF2 players say that the spherical Demoman grenades are better than the pills, these oblong objects just roll super fucking strangely
Like, you throw the thing and then it just... rolls off to some randomass side for some reason
I wanna dig into the physics engine and figure out why these roll so weirdly tbh
Wound up trying great sword again cause of shadowbringer and
i wanna say i feel pretty good with this but this is a rather unga bunga weapon
Mind you my build would probably give actual GS mains aneurysm
oh i love this
Y'know what they need to add to Wilds
Rerolling Artians
Tired of wasting good parts on a greatsword only for it to have some fuckass reinforcements and just lose those parts completely
It is
I gave up and started savescumming my Artians.
Oh yeah, they brought back GRavios for Wilds
Nice big target for rapid fire water ammo
i like gravios
Oh that's a lovely fit
Got the charm I wanted
Nice
Man, Barrel Bomb Bowling was SUCH a great idea
It is
Thanks Erik for DOUBLING my tranq bombs
π§
Omega Savage got hands
why do i bounce on diablos' horns with a purple hammer π
oh it's has 15 hzv LMAO
i guess I'll just go for legs
gonna start hoping for a bow charge up jewel, at least you can meld one... eventually...
seeing people not instantly carving a tough monster makes me nervous
i carve immediately
hell if you tail cut i'm gonna carve it while we're fighting unless it's some raid boss of a monster
Within every hunter, there are two Odogarons.
I'm so fucking mad at randoms on Omega
This is rare CU being turbo salty, but I'm tiredof people just either not paying attention to what's on the floor, grabbing aggro and then just running away the entire time on sekretback, or in one case just not doing anything and staying on the edge of the arena.
Or in a few cases, just not going after the nercylla
I've had people run out of shield bubbles with the mustard bomb marker
God Xu Wu is such a wild design for MonHun, I love it
I really hope it gets a souped up subspecies in the expansion
"Elder Hunter Xu Wu" or something nuts like that
It'll probably be named after a different color, maybe Pale or Ivory if it's a Xu Wu that's maybe gotten into the Wylk and went a little whacky about it
a Xu Wu that's built up an internal reserve of Wylk via bioaccumulation π
similar vibes to Ebony Odogaron in that sense
Little bit, yeah
oooh nice
I picked up my copy of 4U last night on a whim and for some reason my brain decided to grok the camera controls this time
CB is fun

i started 4U last night lmao
just got through the tutorial at the start
hopefully will find a way to upgrade the textures and resolution
I'm playing it on my 3DS, full old-school experience all the way π
I swear they must've tuned down the Great Jaggi's HP for the weapon tutorial quests, because I've been steamrolling that thing in 5 minutes or so
shell yeah
4U was the first MonHun I played
I never figured out the armor system and failed to have the skills to make it to MR
due to my starting game, monhun will forever be a portable game to me, which probably explains a lot about my tastes in monhun
The swaxe is so different in 4U that I barely recognize it
I think I'm going to be focusing on CB and GS for this one, they're similar enough to their later iterations to get the hang of them easily
It's actually kinda funny, I think the direction GS took in Wilds has brought it closer to its 4U iteration than World
LS will probably be familiar enough, maybe CB since Iβm picking that up
π
World was so focused on TCS spam, but Wilds brought it back more towards the Strong Charged Slash > Strong Roundslash as its big damage combo
Having that funky little blade slap in the middle of the loop feels a bit weird but otherwise it's pretty similar
See I started with og MonHun so my tastes are warped
iβm a new gen hunter πββοΈ
but iβm touring the series a bit, itβs all (mostly) great fun
MonHun good
All MonHun is good
except for 1v2s
All MonHun is good, especially the one you hate.
The good news is in old Gen games, 1v2s means the 2 monsters are much more squishy
And dung bombs still exist, so
yeah
i often forget them π
took down frostfang barioth :D got enough for the LS on the first hunt, which will help with raging brachy
it's got double the ice element of the Velk LS, +15% affinity, and some natural purple over Velk's white, only losing a 4 slot deco
For a moment i was very confused, and then i relaized you'd swapped back to Worlds
oop yea lol
i'm hopping around all over the place
very weird transforming weapon inversion happening for me rn
Wilds: like switch axe, dislike charge blade
4U: like charge blade, dislike switch axe
it works out fine in a practical sense but the symmetry of it is interesting
same for me, replacing them with Rise and GU respectively
I played long sword and gunlance in 2, same in fu, swaxe and lance in 3rd portable and tri, and then played all four in world
In wilds I've limited myself to swaxe and lance only tho
i'm going to need to go back and try swaxe in GU again; i'm curious whether it got the glow-up there or in World. but dang, 4U swaxe just feels so stiff and clunky after getting used to the flow of it in more recent games
greatsword's still pretty great all around tho
Yeah im not much of a swaxe fan for older games
I remember GU Swaxe using hunter arts to keep sword mode running longer. Though I'm seeeing mentions of Valor(/Brave), and Alchemy styles focusing on mode switching more.
ye I agree
it feels a little stiff, and no amp meter or ways to recover gauge without reloading or waiting
my fastest raging brachy by far! usually takes me 30-35 mins
the new LS helped, but I was playing pretty well overall tbh
finding my openings better, and not getting greedy π
got 2 mantles from carve and quest rewards
i cannot with randoms tonight
just had somebody run directly away from the Nerscilla shield apparently thinking that they'd be safe from the Delta Wave if they were standing off to the side
they were wrong, and the cart they ate with that probably cost us the match
dark knight sword get
this thing does some serious damage if you build for Resentment
π
The world of Monster Hunter is vibrant and teeming with life. Each monster is different from the next and their designs and movesets are really what makes the series such a masterpiece. But, there is a certain monster that is absolutely perfect in ways you wouldn't expect.
Footage Used:
All cutscenes and animations: https:/...
A really good analysis of Malzeno.
This Omega fella is pretty dang grumpy
I'm Dual Blades at it so it feels manageable but my Charge Blade friend is getting blendered
I had an inital rough time with Omega because I would try to always activate savage axe mode after all of my perfect guards
You've slain the monster by mistake!

playing world for a week spoiled me with those lil skulls
it's nice that the G rank mizu helmet has the ears without the hood
the fated four all have unique g rank designs for both blademaster and gunner armor compared to the low/high rank designs
ahh gotcha
the new pendans from the challenge look dope
the guide suggest long sword being the easiest to solo so i might learn it the hard way while fighting in the challenge
Longsword is probably the most forgiving weapon in general
At least as far as options for staying safe while maintaining offensive pressure
Goes
bow is pretty good with the dodgebolt stuff yeah
LS can straight up cancel Crimson Slashes (which can be freely aimed even without Focus Mode) into Crimson Foresight Slash iirc, which is kind of nuts
i have to fight against a Seregios and i have to fight him either with a build with gunlance with EVASION MANTLE or long sword/switch axe with Rocksteady Mantle
i can do gunlance or switch axe but i cant learn long sword in time to complete the quest
i cant memorize the controls
sergios does not like to stop for long enouth for me to do good damage with the gunlance and i keep getting smacked around with the switch axe π
i have gotten rusty, havent played in a bit
also the switch axe is water element, the sergios is weak to lightning
and the gunlance too
Some of the builds for those event quests are kind of baffling
anyone down to try it with me ?
so Caedus is an obvious pick here but what Elder Dragons do y'all think have the capability to sink an Island?
Im kinda looking at Namielle but
Nami has no real power level documented
ceadeus, like you said, dire miralis, zorah magdaros, dalamadur, shara ishvalda
dire and zorah are just fucking enormous and have massive physical and volcanic destructive power
dalamadur...well, it'd have to be a small island
True true. My eyes are looking towards any aquatic elders personally (im doing...research for a certain ttrpg)
but it's fucking enormous
Dalamadur my beloved
and shara ishvalda can pretty explicitly sink an island, considering it's sinking chunks of land immediately and casually
oh yea
liquifying earth and being able to target and disrupt fault lines and the ground itself at a massive scale and range
fatalis is a death machine, but it's just like...through the power of hyper-effective biology
it's fast, strong, well-armored, and has powerful fire breath, but all of this is at a small scale and it kind of just individually obliterated human structures and cities
so probably not that
safi might, because it seems to have no upper limit on the amount of bioenergy it can leech from the land and life, but like
we don't know what its maximum theoretical output is
it might not have even remotely enough throughput to do anything destructive on that large a scale
Fatalis is, like, large planet-level at least so he can defo tear down an island
but it might
what
Aka "Really fucking strong"
actually wait yea that was a different dragon
Fatalis is city (schrade), mb
but still
he saw Schrade and decided "easy", tore it down in a night
brother would sink an island just to kill the people on it in a different way.
Fatalis is truly a peak antagonist
what we've seen from fatalis is that it can destroy a castle in a day through a combination of its intelligence and physical abilities
and that it devastated the kingdom of Schrade because of it
but not "it can destroy an island", unless we're talking like
city block-sized mini island
and if we're talking killing all the people on an island, the list gets a lot bigger for sure
i just brought fatalis up because it's The Gen 1 Antagonist Dragon, and hyped to the max
but it never displays any potential for destruction on that scale
dire miralis probably can just by virtue of Kaiju Scale, and alatreon & safi'jiva have similar presentation of "overwhelming raw destruction", versus fatalis being Just Cracked In Every Statβ’
I think it boils down to "Alatreon entered Safi's lair because it wanted to escape Fatalis, therefore Fatalis is stronger than Alatreon and blah blah blah"
funny enough i think someone calculated the heat of Fatalis' "Nuke" attack using Thermodynamics once
and i think it came to 1.2 Million Β°C
spicy
But yea, i shall add these to the list ποΈ
we can't really look at anything in monhun with real-world physics in mind
but my point with it is that it's more like: fatalis's power is undeniable, but everything it does is very focused
yeah defo
i feel like he could inevitably sink an island, but not instantaneously compared to, say, Zorah
okay i gotta ask for clarification on like
island size here
because i was thinking something like the new zealand south island or the japanese mainland
mhm
itty bitty island i'd totally put fatalis there then, yeah
I'm mainly doing a little research for a dnd campaign im running in the future to see what elder would be fitting for a Sunken City ποΈ
however it's good to know what elders could sink the island in the first place
jhen moran or an aquatic/amphibious variant might also function there
An aquatic Jhen Mohran sounds terrifying
i would NOT want to see that in the abyss
i think the most likely candidates for "would be on or under a small island and also sink it incidentally or deliberately" are dire miralis, ceadeus, zorah magdaros, and aquatic jhen/dahren moran or dalamadur variant species
others that wouldn't be likely to have been there, but could have reached it would definitively be shara ishvalda
and also could include safijiva, alatreon, or fatalis
OH WAIT
ALSO THE OTHER GEN 3 ELDER
would go in this first list
amatsu
which can cause typhoons and probably tsunamis
is Amatsu amphibious? i forget
technically
it's aquatic but has aerokinesis
and can swim through the sky
dunno how long for
right
zinogre mount theme goes nuts
world alatreon hurts like hell
i have blight resistance 3 now so hopefully the next attempts go a bit smoother
If you want my advice, invest in the Safi armor as it increases elemental damage.
hmm, interesting

i need to figure out my attack windows and locations
might just go for tail and hindlegs because being in front is very dangerous
almost every attack does half my health or more
i think the safi self damage might get me killed π
There's ways around that
And before I forget, even if you avoid Safi, Kulve Taroth weapons. Specifically the Kjarr weapons have Critical Element build in and the HR ones can be upgraded to MR ones via the MR Event Quest materials.
Also Safi armor has a self heal built in if you keep hitting the monster.
No prob, if you do need more specifics try looking up an Alatreon speed run with the weapon you want to use. If they share their build it can give a template to work off of. That's what I did when I was having issues (hence mentioning Safi and Kjarr, since those are what were used).

anyone want to try the Boundless Blades Challenge Quest with me ?
Today's unexpected $7 find
yooooo
!!
The case is beaten to hell but $7 is $7
Congrats on beating Alatreon, now prepare for the hardest fight in the game
tried fatalis, it's really cool and they nailed the vibes
huge upgrade in that department
not fond of the fire cone
did not get very far at all, i'll get back to it sometime
made it through 2 nukes of the real alatreon fight, with horn breaks both times
just need to work on finding more small openings (failed a dps check once) and i should be good to take it down soon!
Why are there so many green rathalos gifs what the fuck
same thing with sigurd from fire emblem
turns out i probably should farm some decos before doing any more tries on alatreon/fatty
i can make it past 3 novas on alatreon then get nervous because i need to kill it by the 4th, iβve usually carted twice by then
I guess if I just didnβt die I could afford to let it nova 4+ times, but thatβs tough
at least iβm consistently clearing dps checks and breaking horns, not bad for day 3
i have been informed that this is not quite up to scratch
planning to farm out A Farewell to Zinogre/GL for a bit once I have time to play, then I can use Steamworks during a festival for deco tickets
itβll also help me get to MR 70 for lifesteal augment

God i love this so much
Unfortunately the comments are gonna be filled with optimization complaints.
Theyβre valid but like. Halloween calls.
I just want my spooky fun
Foxboy twink
soulseer g5 done first try!
only 2 megas left by the end, i was on the ropes
these g5 quests become somewhat manageable with smokes
spawning the 2nd monster in at 40% on the first is a toughie for solo play, i dropped smoke uptime because i carted and the area entry wasn't covered by the smoke
and zinogre and mizu both managed to dodge 3/4 flashes π
soulseer is a cool (and scary) monster, i really like the flip and spinning charge, and how its moveset is distributed
awesome
I wish we could get alma's outfit too, even though the others they showed were nice
That looks like a very unhappy horse
You're in Seliana and hadn't encountered a Kirin before?
We meant that we didn't know this channel existed
[Reply to:](#1164963928531533855 message) You're in Seliana and hadn't encountered a Kirin before?
we already own Pearl
Ah, gotcha, my bad
tbf i didn't fight a kirin until MR
never investigated the coral tracks
the first kirin i fought in world was shatterhorn
That's surprising to me only because Kirin is also in LR and how you unlock the Thunderproof Mantle
I bumped into it in LR and didn't fully believe that I was expected to hunt an elder dragon in LR until I'd actually slain it
I was going through the whole hunt like "okay but it's just going to run off after I do enough damage, right?"
Nope
Kirin, the weakest Elder Dragon. Partly because all it can do is drop lightening from the heavens at will, and partly because it's the only one to be found in LR
[hunter struck by lightning] "psh, I've had worse"
Keep in mind this is relative to everything else in the waste bin taxonomic group chock full of creatures who are not understood and could kill just about anyone in the world with a sideways glance if they really felt like it
Plus, you know, world ending shit
oh
i only have 6 mantles
i'm not great at doing sidequests
i got my temporal mantle at MR 55 π
Yeah you should go back and do all the side quests. If you're in MR they'll be extremely easy now (assuming you don't bungle a capture by hitting too hard).
o7
Get those capes
ooh evasion mantle will be real nice
7 threat 2 tempered monsters are not trivial to find though
π
i'll check my investigations
Find those tracks
I forget what it was that required a certain amount of Threat 3 tempered monsters to unlock, but that was a bit of a process
Knocking around on expeditions gathering and looking for tracks was kind of chill, though

I've never been clear on how to get tempered investigations, is it just finding tracks?
Yeah, specifically the special ones with the blue scoutflies. When you examine them they have a chance of giving you a tempered investigation that (I think) matches the threat level of the monster leaving the tracks
gotchaaa
Finding tracks and defeating Tempered monsters will give progress towards a new investigation
is there a way i can influence getting specific monsters
there are some quests with guaranteed t2s so i can get a few that way, but some of the quests have prereqs of their own π
IINM it trends toward the monster that left the tracks but I could be wrong and otherwise no it's almost entirely random

I swear I'm like 90% sure the threat level matches the tracks that give you the investigation so that ie Rathalos or Diablos tracks will give you T2

Like that's how I farmed T3 investigations, by going to the Elder's Recess and looking for elder dragon tracks
so would i run around areas that have a T2 monster present or something
More or less yeah
Or rather no
Tempered tracks spawn separately from monsters that are present; I think they have a set pool of possible spawn points and can be from any monster that appears in that area
If I'm remembering right. It's been a minute
This is why most tempered farming uses the static quests to get them, cause it takes out quite a bit of RNG
hmm, rocksteady is 3 T3, but there's a quest with tempered teo, lunastra, and nergi :D
i'll work on getting evasion and rocksteady in between zinogre hunts
Right, it was rocksteady that needed T3
Very worth for cheesing the clutch claw, though
Plus making for an easy opening on a late game Elder Dragon fight
mhmm, that's the hope
that's what i got temporal for
and that's why I'm going for evasion mantle too, since foresight slash activates it, and alatreon's lightning attacks are pretty rollable, I'll have that nice damage buff
Oh you know about Alatreon. That's who I was talking about for the opener with Rocksteady. Since it stops roars you can use it to clutch Alatreon mid roar when you enter the arena and shoot it into a nearby rock formation for a good opening
oooooh gotcha!

this is exciting
hopefully i get some tool specialist hybrid level 4 decos
...
[Reply to:](#1164963928531533855 message) Get those capes
took down zinogre and got 8800 steamworks fuel :o
i went in with 7 megas and 1 ancient and barely made it out
i have my controller propped up so the trigger is held down π
it's pretty fun
many explosions to be had
took down a handful of zinogres, including a tempered one
not as hard i was afraid of, so it's time to get some decos and MRs
Should have said "charging"
excuse me, our handler said "no pickels"
We also unlocked Max Potions and Ancient Potions for crafting
shell yeah
my buildβs looking pretty decent now, although divine blessing level 1 isnβt ideal
BIG FISH
Canada Wyvern
Am trying to wait out Barrioth materials via trailblazers
and then get to Glavenus/Nargacuga hunts
Worst part about me playing MonHun is I want to make a certain dumb build but I also know what I want is never optimal
ugh, Barrioth still sucks to fight without an MR weapon
just need one more hardclaw tho
Then, Glavenus, then Nargacuga
we need to try out gunlance on a lower tier hunt
maybe another time
Just got Mechanical Lumu I, so we are ready for the Glavenus line of swaxe
maybe before our one shot tonight we'll test it out on Barrioth, see how it likes a jump of 600 to 805 power
*techically 595, but it's basically 600
my upgraded build still isn't enough for alatreon, but I can see the light if I play a bit more safely
I don't need to spend my red gauge right away, getting some hits and then fade slashing out is good enough
health regen would make it a lot easier ofc, so that's an option - just over 10 MRs to go
Anyone have tips for farming armor spheres? Been away for a bit and need to upgrade armor for defense purposes.
Dino downed!
Also we learned we could just have the anti cold temperature gem on our Ghille Mantle+
So now the Iceproof mantle can go in the box
Doesn't the ghille mantle go away the moment you attack?
Yes, but as long as the gem's equipped it should negate the debuff
And the item is in my equipment list
Idk, will have to test at home
We're looking to get a new set of armor soon-ish
Most likely Nargacuga
So that means a new set of slot restrictions
We see, we see
I believe decos on mantles are only active when the mantle is
new old rose pfp π
bouny...
Bnuuy....
yeah.... it doesn't work like I thought
for which game?
Wilds
Wilds servers seem creaky today; i had a mid-quest disconnect, a connection error, and a fight with a teleporting Steve xP
9* monsters drop a few of the 1k armor spheres; you can also convert spare materials into armor spheres at Azuz
nice! get that bat
it's nice to have a non-elemental boss after Glavenus/Barrioth
From Shincry (@Shincry) on Twitter.com.
furious rajang

the jumping fireball spread always gets me
trying to hit the head is berry scary lol
but it must be done..
Not getting Brachy on my first try sadly
Oh, yeah, and found Azure Rath before Brachy
ποΈποΈ
The dual shields could work as a rhythm or thrown weapon, either as a pair of cymbals or as a frisbee
If we're talking possible new weapons I've always thought a bo staff is about the only niche left to fill. Medium speed/power and deals bludgeoning. Give it a tool to push around on the ground like a grounded IG.
Sword and bowgun
That only works if the bowgun is small enough to one hand, and per the lore that can't work because monsters are only vulnerable to giant fuck off weapons and mortar launchers. Now if you wanted to make a bowspeargun that would be more feasible.
lmaoo
doesn't need to be small enough to one-hand
just build a standard two-handed LBG
and one-hand it anyway
Akuma
But what if mech suit?
But like the Peni Parker one where the suit is also home to a living buddy for operation and combat?
Check Radobaan armour (fem) of mhwo to go for artistic inspiration
Akuma is a crossover. Iβm talking a fully dedicated weapon slot for punching the monster. Weapon trees and everything.
He is the fist weapon
He requires another weapon for the damage numbers
Gore gloves
i donβt know what iβd want for a new weapon π€ it feels so hard to think of one when iβm so used to these 14 π
I want to kill a rathalos and have my fists be infused with flame
Maybe check the concept phase of monster hunter 1, they had a few other ideas
ohhh yeah they had some whimsical things there
Captain America defeats Deviljho
i would love oversized power gauntlets, yeah
blend it with some of the magnet spike's design ideas
for gravity fists
Fist weapons, some sort of ranged/melee hybrid (chain weapon, Harpoon, javelins) are where I see the main design space left for weapons. Maybe, possibly, some kind of one handed axe that's focused a bit more on heavier blows & precision than the SnS. But you start running into overlap issues
after a tiring hunt, serenading your teammates on top of the monster's corpse is a good way to relax and regain your energy
i forget if i shared this fashion or not
Black Knight Killer style

gonna hop on wilds again this weekend
and hopefully take down Alatreon!!!
i've been working towards it..,.,
Do you mean World?
both!
i've been playing world but want to check out wilds again
buuut also I'm really close to MR 70, so I can stick lifesteal on my FF weapons
ominous violin music
Man, i know i shouldn't/it wasnt the intent but hearing a friend say he got demoralized from using melee weapons due to seeing me do a lot better than him
I think ive neglected just how fucking hard Gaismagorm's design goes
Well, guess one star for ice damage is better than completely immue from fire
Whatcha hunting?
Tigrex
Isn't Tigrex weak to Thunder?
I don't have any thunder weapons
Well might be a good idea to get one since you know what's coming
What weapon type are you using?
Well GL doesn't use element if you want to tinker with that
As for Swaxe you could get the Tobi or Fulgur Anjanath at this point I'm pretty sure
Doesn't Viper Tobi do Paralysis, not thunder?
and no, I don't have the Fulgur tree yet
Regular Tobi is thunder
is it worth taking the attack stat hit from 805 to 700 tho?
If you're worried about elemental attack then raw is going to go down
well then should I take raw or elemental?
On Swaxe might be better to focus on raw for now
Since element is usually better on faster hitting weapons
Though note that Raw can include statuses like Poison and Blast
That is pretty good
Tigrex Helm
Brachydios Chest
Barrioth Arms/Waist
Glavenus Legs
Now if only the Shrieking Legiana set bonus didn't give bow perks
oh well, might as well grab it for ice resistence for Velkhana
Oh, and Glavenus Swaxe
Kinda hyperfocusing on story than learning GL
reasonable
might as well unlock all the options to play with before you start exploring
(he said, about something he never does ever)
woohoooo
after this MR uncap quest I can work on getting lifesteal on my FF weapons
why is my hideous cat so much uglier than the normal felynes, i thought they all looked like that in these games but there's a normal one right there
Navirou why are you a 40-year-old divorcee as a cat
navirou is evil shaped
he is malformed
the first thing he did when i met him was try to eat my infant son
which would have been traumatizing cause that's what happened to the previous son too
kinda
I despise this cat
I wonder if the game will manage to get me to turn my opinion around on him
you will learn the answer in time
im excited to
this game fills me with a desire to explore
i will avenge Ratha, who is most definitely dead after falling offscreen into a big pit
its indeed a monster hunter
LMFAO
hey so like. do we know what bioenergy actually like...does? other than just allow life to flourish that is
Seems to be related to Elder Dragon stuff since Zorah's gonna explode from all the energy it has
It's probably some kind of super empowered nutrients that cycles throughout the world's beings
it could empower evolution with the in universe reason how various monster ability works (ie: flying, fire breathing, poison glands, etc)
Also that time a couple of Leshens show up in the Ancient Forest and become completely jacked
My freak-ass lizard fended off a Nargacuga almost single-handedly.
World's most powerful velocidrome
He is an improvement in every way upon my previous son. This one can fight off Nargas like a god
Why is he a better mount than the things from Wilds wtf
because bro can j u m p
if you play stories 2 they hype up the monsters' supers way more
im gonna play 'em all
shit, that's a pull
Did a light quest as a treat

thinking of giving swaxe a try in world again
It's fun
looks it
and that makes blue
my opp
profoundly divorced-looking palico
fighting AT Uth Duna
me: "dang it only does it once?"
it in fact did something twice
best kinship attack in the game
Eesh
I can get why people might want to do manual acceptance on SOS flares for Omega, but if they're going to do that then they could pay any attention at all to their join queue
that do be a rath
YES
I love Nerscylla
it's like one of my favorite monsters i think
I love that it cloaks itself in Gypceros hide and I love that Stories accounted for that detail in having the baby form not wearing anything
it's like
it's such a small detail, but it's the sort of thing that would stand out to me if they'd gotten it wrong
Kinda like how, in Pokemon, Kangaskan always come out of eggs already carrying a baby in their pouch, somehow.
anyway I named her Argiope :)
Mega Khangaskan proves that the baby is just a biological attack drone, obvs
Monster Hunter is generally a series that thrives on thoughtful
i know but it's so refreshing
i guess i thought i was getting into something that would be, like, Pokemon but flavored different
but it's so much more than that
I know that was why rise got some pushback, because maglamalgo esp was a bit too anime.
But they corrected nicely with sunbreak, and there were still winning designs like angry yetiman
It's got an interesting story that, while different in tone from mainline games, is really fun so far. I like exploring the setting and actually getting to see Hunters' reactions to, like, the idea of a Monster Rider.
I love the gene system for how it adds a needed layer of complexity to owning monsters, and makes even low-power / low-rank monsters potentially valuable for what they can contribute to higher-rank ones
I love that there's so many quality-of-life features. There's a built-in, single-button way to change the speed of combat animations mid-fight, meaning you can slow down when you wanna see unique new animations or speed up when you wanna get through a slugfest.
There's fast-travel that works great and lets you save your game without going all the way back to your house.
Collecting materials while riding on a monster is extremely quick and painless.
There are inexhaustable recipes for experience-gain food items; If you put in the work of grinding, you can speed-level new monsters as you get them with items.
The music is great, the story has managed to elude me as to where it's going, and it feels like the game is really, really massive in a way I wasn't expecting.
And it looks really nice too, considering the size and scope of it all. I love the art-style except in the pre-rendered cutscenes that use a different artstyle anyway
The past Pokemon game I really played at all was Sun and Moon, and while I had fun all the way through, there wasn't anything that really wowed me.
But in MH Stories, I've squealed with delight multiple times. I shrieked when I realized I get to play around with any monstie I own in the overworld, and that they all have fun exploration abilities. I loved learning that the Rathalos the game introduces early on isn't actually your first party-member; You're not some special chosen-one at first, so you get a regular old monster egg! That's so much more fun!
It's just extremely good all around. I have no complaints so far, I think.
hey so quick question im fighting a quropeco and
what the actual fuck
he just summoned a blighted rathian what the hell
Lol
The way most tri players met deviljho was Quero letting out a never heard before song, followed by them getting hit in the back by a toe nail that took off most of their ho.
Then jho usually ate Quero
ok i managed to kill them both
but
good god
after getting stomped by a pink rathian before even entering the main city, it was a bit of a fright to get a blighted rath dropped into a fight
Man i love Quro
certified "we jumping you" monster
My only issue with quro is his low rank/high rank armor
it is uh, Not Great
thankfully his G/Master Rank armor is a much better stylish carnival theme
That's very fair
yeah they do that
enjoying goldian a looot more in world
it feels notably different than rathian, i like the new state, and it stays put in one area in the event quest I was fighting it in
Yeah the metal raths became much more enjoyable in 5th gen
Got that odogoran in us

we thought about doing Ebony Odogarron but we ended up doing the 1v2 Teostra/Lunastra
The latter is far worse than the former ngl
ah gotcha
I should fight Ebony again
I got rolled 3 times then handily won the 4th
I need to know if I learned the fight or got lucky
although it might not be much of a challenge now
garon's easily one of my favorite fights in gen 5
probably gen 6 too ngl
it just feels so fluid to play against

Ebony done
got alatreon down in less than 20 mins :D
berry cool fight
hoping to try it with GS or Hammer but I would need an elemental one of those
could go Silverlos for fire or Frostfang for ice I guess
cogh cough Kjarr cough cough
half the items in the series are like
Description: "It is considered invaluable due to its many uses in crafting."
The item itself: is used in a single recipe for a mediocre armor
TBF that's just how we use it, there could be non-armor purposes we don't see because it's used by non-Hunting folks
It's open season on the world's most dangerous heroes, and you're just the hero we need to track them all down. We're happy to announce a massive Dota/Monster Hunter crossover with new sets, new pets, a new in-game hunt and crafting system, and of course monsters. (For everyone who thinks Dragon Knight turning into a dragon is awesome but would ...
I'm like 80% sure this means a Roshan hunt coming in the future
waitWHAT
so, going back to World for the first time in a while,
wtf is the deal with the little skull icon that means a monster is capturable
half of the time it just never shows up and I accidentally kill the monster with no warning
I know limping is a sign it has low health, but multiple times I've trapped a monster and tranqed it when it was limping, and it didn't get captured
i think the skull only shows up when the monster's trying to disengage
random reddit users saves the day again π
IIRC it only shows up if the monster is at tracking level 3
Yeah that's my memory of it too
And for context most monsters start a hunt at tracking level 2 and if you research the monster enough one track pick up is enough to get to 3
so i got my hands on the Zoh Shia GL and. hm.
full burst is supposed to be the specialty of Normal-type gunlances, which is why i went ahead and grabbed the Zoh one
but from my testing, with Load Shells and Artillery 3 on both, the Zoh Shia GL does ~40x7 = 280 per full burst while the G.Ark GL does ~90x3 = 270 per full burst
not a huge difference, especially considering that i'm getting nearly twice the damage off of normal shelling for the G.Ark gunlance
i feel like i might be able to get superior DPS off the Zoh Shia GL if i lean into the normal attacks for its higher sharpness + Whiteflame Torrent, but idk if i really want to play GL like that
Are these naked numbers without any skills that aren't on the weapons?
no, but it's running both weapons with the skills i'd use on them in the field
so it's a "live test" in that sense
mind, this is just comparing shelling damage from full burst
which is why i'm thinking Zoh GL could still do some work if you focus less on shelling
it's down 20 raw but up white sharpness + something like 15% affinity + Whiteflame
i've just been learning the weapon on G.Ark so i've picked up the "always be shelling" habit
I used wide for a long time when the game came out and it was mechanically best but while I still do a lot of full bursting I like the flexibility of being able to use a shell to move without losing 1/3 of my shells
next title update is on dec. 16

HUH?
oh wait this was sent here already
GOGGOGGOGGOGGOG
never punished
also got a kill with clutch claw because i died to nova but it can't die during the windup
got rewarded with my first mantle though :D
do you think the Monster Hunter Wilds DLC will come with an engine overhaul?
MH World is one of the bestselling games of all time on steam. Wilds has sold alright, but nowhere near as well, largely because its reviews are so negative from awful performance. Capcom is usually very good about optimizing their PC ports, I feel like it has to be worth the investment to get it to run decently.
An engine overhaul is a much tougher task than it may sound
They can probably work on the performance stuff but the engine is the engine
I do not think you will see a change in game engine other than continuing to try and improve performance of the game's optimisation no
I would also say that "Capcom is very good at optimising for PC" is not my experience at all, MH World had quite a terrible technical state at launch itself and it's far from alone
Wilds actually runs better and more reliably on my current PC than World did when it released on my old one
Plus it's not like Capcom is going to spend all the money necessary to port all that work to like Unreal 5 or whatever
World is their best selling game ever. Wilds selling a bit less is something they probably feel very content about
iceborne is still busted, even
and has mods to unfuck it
because its performance is bad but easily fixable
my experience has definitely been "capcom is notoriously bad at optimizating PC ports"
oh yeah π thereβs just running code that doesnβt do anything
nah they're using an engine they're comfortable with (RE i believe)
Yeah it's RE
RE was built for resident evil first (surprise!) and so its best use case is small scale, detailed rooms
not open world games like Dragon's Dogma 2 or the other recent MH games (MH Rise is fine tho??)
Rise was more stylized and so had less needed processing power
Also built for the dang Switch
Yeah Rise just doesn't have as much going on since it's a switch title
I'm not an expert on the topic, I just know the new resident evils and DMCV ran pretty decently on my old laptop π€·ββοΈ
They weren't running ticking clocks and like several possible roaming boss fights
World runs great now, but I understand it had its own performance problems at launch
I agree that it looks about as good as Wilds, though, which is why I find it a bit baffling that Wilds gobbles so much more GPU
wilds depends way more on frame gen to cover its bases
Also Wilds has to track all the biomes at the same time whereas World just had checkboxes
Huge ones
true true
game logic has been several orders of magnitude less computer-intensive than graphics for a long time
unless there's fancy physics stuff going on
in a bit of a pickle right now
Bout an hour.5 to go before our event, gonna run some shrieking legiana to grab ice resist for Velkhana
oh, and Iceproof+
event?
IRL stuff
okay, gonna speedrun MR Anjanath
should really go after MR Jyodutus soon
got the final lash we need
[Reply to:](#1164963928531533855 message) okay, gonna speedrun MR Anjanath
Went straight up to F.Anjanath Swaxe +
Now to get a water and dragon elemental weapons and we're good to go
Question: Jyruatodus or Coral Pukei Pukei for water swaxe?
trying to build one weapon of each element
what's the glavenus mantle drop rate?
we keep breaking the head & tail all the time
Are you also carving the tail?
yes
Also if you're in World is should show the % chance of getting one
Though if you're target farming consider grabbing a Glavenus Investigation with Gold Rewards since those can be matles and the like
Pros of Rise:
- Wirebugs! They just make movement and combat so much more fun
- Craftable decorations remove so much pointless grinding and give you more actual control over your build.
- Skippable cutscenes!
- Has most of the best monsters in the series
Pros of World: - The environments of the maps are a lot nicer, and the monsters feel like they actually belong
- Monster riding in Rise was a poorly thought out mechanic
- More challenging/balanced
I wonder how Wilds will compare for me once it gets a form I'm able to play
(I have really tried to play the gen 4 games, but I'm just... not strong enough to get past the one hundred QoL issues)
I started with MHGU and cleared high rank there, but it's hard to find momentum to start a new file again.
π₯³
i hold the tiny hope that MHGU gets a pc port
i hold a slightly bigger hope that MHGU gets a switch 2 upgrade

If GU got a PC port I would never ask for anything else in my life ever again
Yeaaah I like new monster hunter but I think there's a place for the Classic Style Clunk
also i miss all the old sound effects they should never have modernized
play me a little xylophone about my crafting, game, damn you
There's a lot I miss from the older games
If the old games had omni-directional dodge like 5th generation onward I'd be in heaven. Thats like my biggest complaint I think
The map-section loading areas were always a problem imo
It feels like with things like Focus Mode, moving while drinking Potions, and Wirebugs etc. a lot of the importance of positioning is gradually disappearing
Focus Mode is so empowering
And the chain knockdowns
Traps used to feel more punchy
Yeah the sectored off maps is something that hasn't aged well
'ah good, the tail fell in an inaccessible location'
but also Qurupeco was there so not everything can be bad
Another thing that's sorta harder to quantify is that it feels like the game systems feel less impactful
It's like.. the empowering of base abilities/weapon powercreep
And loot changes a bit..
Supply box..
Like they're not bad exactly just it's gotten a lot more 'player friendly' in ways that just mean you have to interact with the game less
Yeah. It feels less like an expedition or a hunt in uncharted territory and more like, stepping right outside the city gates
I've also had a bit of a problem with Wilds where a lot of skills that were niche but could come in clutch just feel useless now. Like Windproof or Tremor Resistance
Hunters have gotten a ton of power compared to the monsters. We have so many tricks for dealing with monsters, meanwhile their tricks for dealing with us have dwindled down to the point where the new games feel much less challenging overall
And that kinda creates an arms race for Capcom where I feel like they're going "ah fuck relatively new players are clowning on the high-tier hunts" and the way they course-correct is coming up with fights that have whack and often unsatisfying gimmicks
definitely
Becoming more Monster Fighter than Monster Hunter, the ideal form of game is the intro to MH4. I love preparation
Traps less noticable when every monster deploys itself to The Nets-Having Tree
i love you itsy-bits

the leaping attack that has 0.5 seconds of windup, travels across the entire area, and does 70% of your healthbar is...painful
Especially when he does it 3-4 times in a row
yeahhh..
my success rate with Barioth skyrocketed when I started using traps at the beginning to tenderize and break the wingarms so it's off-balance after leaps
Many such cases, sadly
I knew Navirou was a divorcee... this bastard child of his just ran up to us in a trash dump. Outrageous.
oh.
π
