Permian but with humans be like
wilds bow is pretty fun, I like the coating system and the perfect dodges
makes me want to give it another go in Rise, maybe without the Berserk set though
I think Bloodblight negates the Kushala Blessing regen? so if I get Bloodblighted then I'm already in a bit of a pinch, even more so if I get hit (often)
I'll throw together another set
i think if barroth sneezed it would sound like a pipe organ
Yesssssss
Should I trust the Wilds Steam reviews?
I haven't had any problems with it but a lot of people have performance issues and I think that's what all the negative reviews are for
The performance is pretty rough without frame generation. I have a pretty good system and even on like high settings I was only getting like 30-45 fps
god damn
what does 'pretty good' mean here lol
cuz my system's parts are all around 5 years old save my ssd
I have a 2060
I have a 4070 and a...12th or 13th gen mid-range Intel processor
I think you would have significant trouble lmao
Idk if the 20 series can even do frame generation
Might be the only way to run it
yeah I've been running unstable 30 fps upscaled, I've been having fun but sometimes it's a bit of a bummer
I've been getting decent performance from it but I also got a new rig with a 4080 specifically for Wilds
It's really unfortunate tbh. I feel like the graphics could be knocked down to World-ish levels without the game losing much, and it would run far far better
yeah, i think world looked good enough
some of the new effects are great even for my graphics level, i love rey dau and zoh shia's stuff
I really want to play more world, but my reason for being a little hesitant is kinda silly: not getting money for guiding lands hunts
it's where i want to go to just smack monsties and get some upgrades, and there's not really a lore reason to be getting paid, but 1. I'll need the moners and 2. I like having zenny (and video game currency in general) 😭 as a side indicator of progression
Faux Felyne headgear is fucking funny because it moves.
[Spoilers for Low Rank endgame]
Also y'all should do the event quest to get it. We can truly be the Paw Patrol that way.
sword and shield says you can use items while it's equipped, but when i press the item button it just unequips them. Weapon wheel works fine though. Is there something i need to change in the settings?
playing Rise, if it makes a difference
try holding R2/ZR to block, and then use it
So i need to grind for a fuckin' Rathian aruby
At least i'll look fashionable doing it.
shell yeah
"parry this you filthy casual" okay i will
kid in math class: when will i ever use this in real life??
real life: which is better, a weapon with 190 attack that does 25% more damage 15% of the time, or a weapon with 215 attack that does 25% less damage 30% of the time
sooo true
So, question
Now that Artian gunlances aren't complete crap, how does the whole system actually work, and what is a 'good' Artian?
Make weapon out of parts.
You want 3 parts that are all doing the same thing - so so the same element + attack up (affinity parts are shitty because it's easy to get affinity elsewhere, hard to get raw damage)
Then reinforce it you get random rolls
Ideally you want at least 2 attack up rolls and a sharpness roll
It's possible to get attack up x 4 reinforcement + sharpness, but this is very hard to get
There's ways to save scum the rng
It remains my not favorite system even with weapon transmog
If you're extra lazy, there are mods that let you just edit your Artian rolls to be whatever you want
Which frankly, given what a pain the arse grind it is, I highly recommend
A sharpness x2 + attackx 3 reinforced weapon is lovely.
Most weapons go for making a Para version as Artian weapons get crazy status for free
(Greatsword makes sleep, because Greatsword has amazing wakeups. It's up to you for other weapons. Para is better if you do multiplayer)
Artian weapons with perfect rolls are like 5-10% better than the monster crafted weapons. The big thing is they also have amazing deco slots, at cost of no inherent skills
Which usually means you can cram crit boost into them happily
Plus other good stuff
Like I have Crit boost maxed, focus 3 and handicraft 1 in my Greatswords
if ur like me and you avoid para cause it's more fun to you that way blast is a baller alternative
I think an Artian Gunlance with bad rolls is still worse than the best Gunlances you can craft without RNG so I wouldn't worry about it overmuch unless you're trying to build for something specific (in which case the 3 decoration slots will probably be good)
If you don't have the decos, Artian weapons are a lot worse
i still dont have artillery jewel three
Got it, part of me is a little bored of GArkveld since that one is still hideously powerful, just not completely best in slot
Aye, and it still makes an opening when the monster flinches from getting explodiated
Plus the old World instinct of "Blast=Best" is still ingrained in me
I've been having a blast with my blast coatings, rocking the Rey Dau bow
Wish there were more Rey Dau weapons ngl
although having only Blast and Pierce is a little tough to work with sometimes
A Rey Dau HBG in the style of World's Zinogre HBG would've kicked ASS
oh, i was so mad when there wasn't a Rey Dau swaxe
the CB's design kicks ass tho, that made up for it
👀
might try to make that next
i like round shield CBs
waiter! waiter! more Hunter Symbol IIIs please!
the heavy bowgun is a lot cooler than the light bowgun
it's a shame that it's so so much worse
20% more damage is not worth having 20% as much mobility
I feel like it has to be balanced around 4-player where you can have someone else draw aggro while you sit there immobile firing
God I hope they reintroduce Frostfang at some point
I miss Barroth
Fun early monster, fun design, fun noise, unique little mud mechanic
where are its weak points? my friend who's new to mh had a lot of trouble with IG against it
I said legs and belly but apparently he bounced there as well
His lil' t-rex arms and tail iirc
But he's also just an early "sharpness is a mechanic to watch for" kinda guy
What's the best "generalist" element?
Like, what element has the most weaknesses among monsters?
Are you talking about just the 5 elements of Fire, Water, Ice, Thunder, and Dragon or are we including the 4 Statuses of SLeep, Paralysis, Poison, and Blast?
my gut says Dragon is the overall most consistent damage dealer
if it's world go Blast
It also depends on what weapon you're using as not all benefit from elements
World either go Blast or raw with non-ele boost
I wouldn't recommend an elemental weapon for a "general use" set you plan on using against all monsters unless there's something special about the weapon itself
Yeah, unfortunately monster elemental weaknesses are rarely impactful enough to warrant crafting up an entire elemental weapon from the lowest tier to wherever you are currently
In general, Dragon is the element most likely to be generally useful to have because all the Elder Dragons are typically weakest to it (except for Kirin and Vaal but they're still 1 star weak, rather than 2-3) and Dragon weapons typically have elderseal
But even then it's better to go for Raw or Blast for maximum overall damage and ease of use
And, typically, Blast is recommended because Blast weapons already have very good Raw damage and then blast is just a treat on top
All of this is in reference to World, I should say
Trying to decide on a kinsect element lol
Oh then you are really on the wrong track
Your kinsect does not do enough damage for that to matter outside of meme/challenge runs
get the fastest one possible
or one that can gather two extracts
nothing else matters
Speaking of the glaive though, you're either Raw Blasting it or making one of each element for specific monster match ups
i prefer to raw blast it tbh
Insect Glaive is one of the weapons that happens to be sitting between raw and element being the best in World
Wilds I think is a similar case, but I could just be thinking of the Artian system
insect glaive would be very cool if it did damage
im a fan of para since it can just sometimes give you an extra opening once , otherwise its not super necessary
got an attack +9 charm in MHGU last night to replace my +4
maybe I can sneak in 10 points of critical eye somewhere now, hopefully I can find legs with critical eye
D'you think this is how Plesioth evolved
's its origin story, yeH
One day everyone who talks about Dwarf Fortress will admit all the stuff they say about the game is a mass prank and I will be vindicated in my conspiracy theory
Please GOD let them shadowdrop Bazel
But what if they shadowdrop Bazel, Jho, and Raj and have them all show up in the same quest and the characters all flip their shit while the Hunter goes "Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!"
I could unironically do that
Same
Also a defense down debuff
😨
Also singlehandedly capapble of destroying entire ecosystems by eating them all to death
do you combat those with adamant seeds
Yes
gotcha..
Jho's legend is let down by their combat capabilities in game imo
Deviljho is one of those few monster species that the Guild kills on sight due to its destructive nature
getting chased by savage jho through elder's recess
oh dang
savage jho is a threat, admittedly
that's cool lore
You can't coexist with something that wants to eat you, your family, your pets, your house, and your entire neighborhood
Isnt he part of the main questline in GU? For Hub/Airship?
He a tanky boi tho.
I always found Jho a bit intimidating but that might have been because he kept jumping me while I was trying to do something else
His big dragon breath AoE can be a bit scary if you're not ready for it, though
hmmmm, i don't remember!
will check my hunter's log
I do have a fondness for Jho's weapons in World, since any amount of Handicraft will get you to white sharpness, which is huge in HR
I had a really good build going with a couple of Kushala armor parts giving me Handicraft and Evade Extender for the Jho swaxe
I love ol' Jho
He's a bit silly but that Sudden Invasion was way more menacing back when everyone was slow as hell
so how real is magic in monster hunter
the big final dragons in Rise straight-up have telekinesis and psychic abilities, but idk how canon that game is
there's also the hunting horn, but I'm not sure if the explanation is just that the sound itself makes your body heal its wounds in MH universe
(the implications of which would be astounding once they get the technology for record players/speakers)
mh is like, preindustrial science fiction imo that does have what is essentially magic as long as you can come up with a biological reason for it that is believable within context
yeah I can buy that for all the lasers/lightning/hovering/etc. But I don't see how there's a biological reason for psychically controlling someone miles away or moving boulders that you're not touching or making air currents
MonHun is like, magic is real in the sense that "life energy" is a real and quantifiable thing in the setting and can be manipulated to do extraordinary things
what does "magic" mean?
because obviously physics don't work the same way in the monhun universe
What exactly can be done with it varies a bit between games
Depending on their tone
Some get a bit more gonzo with it than others
I don't think I'd say that there's a "canon" for the series in terms of strictly defining what is and isn't possible, more that there's a sort of core of ideas that gets interpreted differently in different games
And then there's Wylk
there don't seem to be wizards in monster hunter but some monsters can do unexplainable things
Is the question whether or not "magic" exists from the perspective of people in-universe?
dragon energy
I feel like there's always a certain amount of the Guild trying to "dispel" beliefs about monsters being mythical and magical rather than unexplained physical phenomena
Well a lot of the Guild is dedicated to studying and understand monsters so "dispelling the mysticism" kinda happens on its own
Or should over time, anyway
That's part of why I love Elders
Scientists just pouting 'WE DON'T KNOW'
'How does it work?' 'It does.' 'But how?' 'Processes.'
Simple then, Elder Dragons run on dark matter
Fatalis probably does
Manhunt doesn't have magic in the sense of spells, but it also just doesn't care about physics at all
I love how chameleos is an elder dragon purely because they don’t know how it does anything it does. Not power, just confusion.
"elder dragon" is a classification defined by the shared characteristic of "what in the actual fuck"
What do I need to gather for this ingredient here?
no jho in my log as of now :O
Kirin is similarly "wtf" if you look at it because it just... does not behave like an animal in some ways. It calls down lightning from the sky.
It makes no sense.
the design is very consistent to nautre
all the ice attacks make me wonder
has there ever been a single organism that actively reduces nearby temperature (without tools)
In real life? I have no idea
I'm not sure if there's any way it would be biologically possible
let us salute the electric eel for singlehandedly making all electricity creatures in fiction feel plausible
I mean, does cooling down your own body count as "nearby temperature"? I don't think there's any examples in real life; I'm not even sure it would be theoretically possible.
If something released a highly pressurized gas, it'd cause cooling as it expanded I think; I really hope I'm not remembering physics wrong. You could also have a chemical with a strongly endothermic reaction with air, but I don't know if such a chemical exists.
I think in order to cool down your surroundings IRL you would need to be absorbing heat at a pretty high rate
And I think there are chemical reactions that do that
But on the organism level? No idea
Oh Bananatron sniped my point 😛
Ok I have a question
What actually IS wylk?
I have my own theory but I want to know if other people know
My theory is that wylk is bioenergy made into a material
I’m facing guardians now but I know EVERYTHING
My best guess is it's a combination of life energy and essential proteins/nutrients
Since ||Guardians appear to be partly made out of the stuff||
I feel it's got something to do with the bioenergy that was discussed in World
Wait. Solidified bioenergy is also in world
Maybe it’s some sort of artificial bioenergy
Could be, or harnessed bioenergy that solidifies as a byproduct
Whatever it is, it has some sort of elemental amplification from what I’ve heard.
Striking the crystals with elemental damage causes them to explode with matching energy
And it chain reacts
So if the monster has an elemental attack you need to detonate them first
Interesting.
This sorta links up with my theory that elemental affinities and resistances are caused by a creatures bioenergy
Wait. This theory would mean that ||the dragontorch is an artificial everstream||
bruh
I was doing a story mission in World. A Bazelgeuse showed up and it played a cutscene introducing it, and I got killed during the cutscene
didn't actually matter besides a bit of money, but still very annoying
That's my boy
||That's Gammoth, right?||
yeah
My monster hunter wilds experience for the past couple months has been “Kill Six Billion Nerscylla” AND I DIDNT EVEN SUCCEED IN MY GOAL BEFORE I JUST WENT AND BITCH SLAPPED NU UDRA INTO THE DIRT
I am so mad at both myself and gypceros because I HAVE TOO MANY RUBBERY HIDES

...I suddenly find myself sorely tempted to start leaning how to use dual blades
they're fun!
^^
okay yeah just did the 8* Nu Udra hunt with my partner
that thing's got hands (eight to be precise)
we were down to the last cart

I should get back to World
Got to Elders Recess, haven't touched it for over a week
god Stun sucks
"Hey guess what? you got unlucky, so now you need to do a Mario Party minigame or lose the last half hour of your life"
I only really like stun in the context of Thunderblight, but do wish there was some way to tell if you were like at the threshold
Yeah
Or like if only realbighits built it
instead of being nudged excessively but a scrambling monster
i think it's interesting that hunting horn has such tiny play rate
i think MMOs give people the impression that if something is marketed as "support", it's not going to be good individually, and in a game like monster hunter you want to be able to function well on your own
but like, even fully singleplayer it's so good
compared to hammer it has less base damage and can't charge, but has literally the fastest move speed in the game and can easily give yourself healing and/or buffs (including attack up to do more than hammer)
and also the status application in wilds is fucking zonked
para echo bubbles are actual degen mode
it's so good
It's reserved for only the most giga of chads
I may be biased
ough
whoaaa
Someone made a really good point about gauntlet style weapons. They cover up your armor gloves.
I really really want the fist punch weapons but its a hard point to argue against
I love watching Uno play solo hunting horn, it's a thing of beauty
I've gotta try Wilds GS, looking through Aris' build guide rn and it looks very fun
Are they a speedrunner?
Wilds GS is fantastic
Nah, Uno is a pretty casual player, though he's as good as you'd expect from someone who's been playing since the 3U days.
He's also a fantastic editor, which makes his videos that much more fun to watch
Definitely recommend Wilds GS, I switched onto it for HR when I was struggling with the swaxe and it feels really damn good

I'll give it a shot after a bit more swaxe
I've been picking up weapons and running up the food difficulty chain with each of them
still need to get a bow and GL clear on Zoh Shia, and need to take out some T3 Tempereds with bow, and then those 2 are done
Also GS is really good for teaching you to take your time positioning and pick your moment to attack. So much so that I found myself getting better at it in Dark Souls after picking up GS in Wilds 😛
it's been really fun learning each of them
👀
Turns out there's a lot of skill overlap between MH greatsword and DS1 zweihander
(I like big swords and I cannot lie)
I will keep this in mind...
I've always held that MH and DS are more similar than people think
been thinking of going back to DS3 or ER one of these months
What with the series of boss fights and all
I think mh taught me a lot more positioning which has been really satisfying to learn
though I have only played the newer souls games
will try to carry my new skills back over 😌
The series of boss fights, but also the combat being relatively slow-paced and based around reading patterns and managing animation commitment
I've not beaten Dark Souls despite being Elden Ring, Sekiro, Demons' Souls remake, AC6, and other souls like I played like Code Vein and the Nioh games
I agree, they are very similar
The reason I've not beaten DS is MOTHERFUCKING BLIGHT TOWN
til that lagiacrus has a real whole-ass fish named after it
Like a real world one?
i hate rathalos so much
get down here
> rathalos is on the top of the map
> sprint and climb to the top of the map
> before i get there he flies to the middle of the map
> jump down and sprint to the middle of the map
> before i get there he flies back to the top of the map
> sprint and climb back to the top of the map
> before i get there he flies to another corner of the map

omfg
yeah
literally ten minutes of running around before i just returned from quest
i timed out in a world investigation because for the first 15 mins, neither rathalos nor the scoutflies could decide where it was
Got pics?
oh wow
the only picture i could find of Lagiacrusichthysis a low-rez image of some decaying ones
dangit
Yeah, "hunt 5 of this type of monster that there's only two kinds of in the game" strikes me as a bit of an odd weekly
...god I wish more people smacked you out of stuns
The ONE time I wish a dual blader would actually hit me and they just completely ignore me
There is a devil on my shoulder telling me to start running SA/DBs in Wilds
I fear I am starting to listen to it
dual blades are AWESOME
even more ability to not get hit with the perfect dodge in Wilds
wheeee
speen
Sometimes I just want to deal with two buttons, the "I am standing where I want to be, go brrrr" button and the "I am not standing where I want to be, go brrrr" button
LOL
That is what the dual blades are to me
"oh, you're weak to Element? unfortunate, One Million Cuts"
I'm guessing that the akuma stuff is like... all paid DLC?
the low damage gestures and alma outfits are paid
the akuma armor and moveset, including the sf6 shoryuken gesture, come from the arena quest
which is free as mentioned
ahhh
hell yeah, get those big damage numbers
I miss Surge Slash
fuck. this. dragon.
for the entire game "Win Pressure Negation" has been sitting in my HUD completely useless
i finally get to a wind-focused dragon, and fully activate it, and almost all its wind still damages me and knocks me back
i have the highest-damage hunting horn available to me and was trying to play aggressive, but it takes little damage anywhere besides its head, which it moves around too fast to reliably hit
if i had actually timed out i 100% would have uninstalled World and not touched it again
yeah....
i kept getting knocked about by it, should've brought more flash pods but I didn't think of that beforehand
Watch pain by dannyquil and millions of other MH World videos on Medal. Tags: MH World, Monster Hunter World
I was trying to use dragon pods to deactivate the aura but I'm not sure if it worked
I'm actually impressed you stuck it out to the end
Yeah world kushala is a bit of a pain
I just make sure to bring some poison stuff or a poison weapon. Maybe something with elderseal
Flashpods, etc
Turns it from extremely annoying to slightly annoying
Elderseal does help, I've generally had good luck bringing my Jho swaxe
fun fact, MR kushala is mostly immune to flashbangs
they only ever flinch it instead of stunning, so you can never knock it down with a flash
kush sucks ya
when it camps the tornado its so fuckign annoying
Please don't. That's how you get more
It flashes blue but would probably glow red
great...
i thankfully have not fought a world MR Kushala yet but I will keep that in mind
Kushala is my least favourite elder fight
yeah 😔
we love abyssal
having a random Kut-Ku spawn in while my partner and i were fighting Gore Magala in the Wounded Hollow was... well, it sure was an experience
lmao
i know charge blade is supposed to be the most complicated thing ever that takes hundreds of hours to learn
Not to learn
but it's really just sword and shield but with better damage instead of unsheathed item usage
To optimise
it's got a lot of moving parts, but once you figure out what each one does it's not all that complicated
my beloved is Dual Blades
HBG go brrrrr
Just wack a shield on it, and remember to stop firing
there's literally nothing else
that's it
well i guess in Rise you have wirebug moves
press O+△,△,△ for your basic noncommital combo that does solid damage, when it starts to overheat press R2+O to cool it and fill three juice cans, press R2+△, O, R2 for a combo that does huge damage but leaves you open and spends one juice can
and if you ever want to be really fancy press O+△, O+△, O+△, R2 to use five juice cans and charge your shield, giving it slightly more defense and damage for a few minutes
buh

1607 !!
Y'know what I vaguely wish
I wish the Kulu/Deviljho turf war in World had Kulu come out on top
Just pulls out a comically massive rock and brains Deviljho with it
i mean it does have the power of final fantasy
violence on chicken noises
The Craeb Council has gathered
🆑🅰️🅱️
"We should commit Deicide upon the Crab God"
hunting with others is pretty fun, fired off some sos flares in world and had a good time
my hammer is 2 steps off of being upgraded, then i’m gonna tackle the shatterhorn assignment to work towards raging brachy
HEY WAIT NO
it's not about the basic combos, it's about guard points
which are relatively finnicky
but, prior to wilds, mostly necessary for doing all of your shit in a timely manner
what exactly do you mean by timely?
because multiple weapons are a lot slower than everything the charge blade has
and relying on guard points for all your attacks feels sketchy, especially with how many multihit/unblockable attacks there are
Squad shot
zoh shia weapons are pretty
yuh
Even the hammer?
Especially the hammer
PS5 weapons
I love beating in a monster's head with a brick on a stick
From what I've seen/experienced, guard points let you multi-task/squeeze in other actions while also negating the attack you Guard Point'd.
...god I hate Hymn Of Sun & Moon
guessing metal raths?
Mmhmm

both at once?
had a gammoth + astalos arena quest

at least they were somewhat o&s-like
Are you at G-rank yet in GU Dani?
yep! on the lao shan long G3 urgent atm
If youre running a ranged weapon aim for his crotch
Best Pierce ammo target
:O
I'll keep that in mind if i fail 😭 i haven't been attacking it much personally because i get tapped by something and take 30%
Yeah his walk cycle has a damaging hitbox so melee struggles
but I suppose if I run out of ammo I'll have to go hit it
I missed the first demolisher shot
😭
gonna finish it up one way or another tonight
You brought crafting materials and combo books?
can you craft ballista ammo?
Thought you were going ranged
nah i was still in the middle of my melee
redoing it, I'll try to win on time
i have no ranged gear
AT Rey Dau coming back July 1/2, not sure for how long
I can fight it properly equipped this time :D
goddamn hunting horn is insane in Rise
i rebought it on steam, and decided to play through with hunting horn after mainly using sword & shield the first time
this was my first try and i'm not even that good
So peak
imo the single biggest buff the hunting horn has in newer games compared to pre-World is that it actually sounds good
so you don't have to constantly listen to blaring MIDI samples the entire time you're using it
Well, thanks to the PlayStation page leak/accidental post we now have more or less absolute confirmation that ||we're getting Seregios alongside Lagiacrus|| and also that Legiacrus looks incredible
Or, I suppose, it's possible it's neither a leak or a mispost but entirely intentional. There just wasn't a lot of fanfare with the announcement just by an update to the PlayStation page for MHWild
remind me when is the update again?
30th
4 tails
surely this is some kind of prophecy ape
Took the Wilds hunting horn for a spin last night, and I quite like it
It's been a hot minute since I played HH in World, but it feels like a lot of it has been tightened up to make the experience more comfortable
That said I absolutely had a few incidents of getting smacked by the monster while trying to remember what the hell my songs were xP
If you need any tips or have questions feel free to ping me!
Will do! Right now I'm still at the figuring out the basic flow stage
I may be a little invested in hunting horn lmao
Good gods
I do like that every horn seems to have an echo note song now, so I'm not wondering what the hell to play once I've gotten all my buffs up
Also need to figure out the performance beat stuff, that's new to me
So when you play a song in Wilds, there is a timing window where you can press the performance button again right after finishing the song. This will make you do another smack as you go into the next song. It also has a tighter window for a "perfect" performance beat, which you know you'll have hit because you'll flash red when you hit it.
You can pretty consistently hit this because your hunter does the same little "shimmy" when performing songs: they'll do a step with their right foot, and then a step with their left foot. If you hit the performance button again when you do that left foot step, that's the timing you need for a perfect performance beat
You can do these performance beats after each song in your current performance staff, and the performance beats do more damage the more of them you do. This damage substantially increases with perfect performances, and if you get 3 perfect performances and then finish up with the little jaunty encore performance, and get that one perfect also, that is your single highest damaging move outside of I think a perfect five note Focus Strike
You can also hit (triangle + circle on Playstation, Y + B on xbox) after any song to immediately do an encore for the songs you've played so far, with the same left foot timing for a perfect beat
Do performance beats apply the increased buff effect, or do you have to encore for that?
You have to encore for that
But now you can encore after any song during your performance rather than just the end
So if you had Self Improvement, Attack Up, and Earplugs ready to play, you could do [Play SI > Performance Beat > Play Attack Up > Performance Beat > Play Earplugs > Performance Beat > Encore]
But at any point you can substitute a Performance Beat in there with an Encore now, and that will empower the songs you have played while keeping the ones you haven't in your staff
Interesting 📝
So if you know you won't have a full opening to play everything, you can still get some empowered songs without having to load them back up, with some good foresight
So performance beat is more for upping the damage output of a recital when you have a large window, it sounds like?
Yeah, exactly
Gotcha, thanks!
You can also fine tune your positioning with it because you can do directional Performance Beats
If you hold a direction while doing a PB you will do a quick mini-dash in that direction
So forward, back, left, right, and neutral
Neutral (no directional input) is probably the fastest PB to do since the animation is so short
Do you know about the extra note inputs during Echo Bubble Dances, Focus Attacks, Flourishes, and Super Slams?
Gotcha
But I like all of the little ways you have to cheat in extra notes
dang this is really cool
If anyone has any questions about horn I will do what I can to answer
Inshallah our ranks will grow
Oh yeah one other random question @frank epoch -- what does the Sonic Barrier song do?
It provides everyone in the party with an indefinite buff. It will greatly mitigate the next instance of damage they take, or fully block the next roar, and then the buff disappears. Encoring it won't do anything.
@balmy swan
any wilds horn reccs?
I'm enjoying the Rathian horn rn. Decent raw, white sharpness, poison, a good spread of songs, and not too much of a pain to farm
I also want to try the Dosha horn, and I'm going to be farming for the Arkveld horn
I need to get some practice in with an offset horn
What kind of playstyle do you like?
i am not sure
I generally play solo if that helps, but don't know what styles horn supports
How good are you at not getting hit?
are you in postgame? because if not, the horn you should go with is the best one you can currently craft
not amazingly so, but if I stay mindful about positioning I can do fairly well
yep I am
I'm personally a big fan of the Zoh Shia hunting horn with the 4 piece Zoh Shia set bonus. It's a well rounded build that's got great damage and solid survivability with the set bonus and echo bubbles
I can show you the build once I get home
Zoh Shia horn is very solid in general
Just a good song list with good damage, just kinda does everything pretty well
Not the best at one single thing (except I guess being a high damage horn that has a healing echo bubble) but it's very solid overall
oooh, that's cool
dooted Rey Dau into submission last night, now i have a Lord's Inspiration armor set for my hunting horn
Wonderful
Yes...good...good...
Hunting Horn afficianadoes rubbing their hands grinch grinning at the hornering
A Rey Dau HH set sounds a bit... horny. jumps out of the windo and into my getaway boat
LAGI
i did not have ||return of underwater sections|| on my bingo card, as obvious as it seems in retrospect
STEVE'S BACK AGAIN
The long-awaited return of Lagiacrus is at last upon us in Monster Hunter Wilds Free Title Update 2. The legendary Leviathan isn't alone, as Seregios seeks to sink its sharp talons into prey...
They arrive alongside Layered Weapons, a host of improvements and additions and more on June 30! Still to come this summer: the Festival of Accord: Fla...
couple a new monster heads to bonk in, i'm good with this
with the way Tokuda was talking about his previous work on the two of them i feel like he's just adding in his favorites of the monsters he's previously designed, and tbh i support him in this
literally huge, holy crap
yeahhh! :D
i thought they already had that :O
no, i think it was just the final hit of the golf swing combo
you could hold the last hit to adjust the timing, but i feel like this is going to be an easier offset to land
guard points for CB are back, they can Perfect Guard now
including comboing into savage axe
insect glaive deemed perfect
the amount of DB buffs is surprising, felt quite strong but will accept
who says hunting horn is bad at getting tails?
Boltreaver Astalos got hands
😌
WE FINALLY GOT LAYERED WEAPONS WE ARE FREE
wE ARE FREE
also ||Seregios.|| hell yeah
STEEEEEVEEEEEEE
finnaly dont have to use the same or the ugly weapons all the time for the most damage
Optimizers stay winning alas
failed raging brachy at the very end 😭 😭
got hit twice, stunned into a puddle and it roared
God I wish raging brachy was better
got a +9 expert talisman but crit eye +1 and AuS loses me 2.4 raw on average compared to just Attack Up L
feels bad
Sorry for the static noise in my audio, changing setups...
got the jrpg fit together in wilds
It's the ||charge blade from lala barina||
I've been mistaken as an npc by a friend I've been playing with for 40 hours, so it's working 😆
LOL
God damn it no! Not again!
Lets go gambling
they already have deco rng
Like with the artians
A mod will be released within days that allow for crafting a desired one
And like that one I shall continue to be on console :p
The woes of console
boltreaver astalos does a lot of damage
working on playing less greedily and focusing on the head
then it's flash time
Also regardless of mods, I strongly disagree with the eternal grind being a desirable thing in monster hunter
(or any nominally single player game)
I am of the opinion that the only RNG that should exist in MonHun is monster part drops since it's easier to control than literally any other kind of RNG
Patch is out btw!
i am exercising every ounce of my willpower to go to bed instead of playing it
i did jump in long enough to turn off the glowing buff aura on my character model tho
much better
Oh damn, Sergios armor has a new skill that's very nice - Adrenline Rush. Up to +30 attack for perfect evades. Set bonus is Razor's Edge, which extends the duration, and extends it furhter (but onyl once) if you trigger it again while it's up. If you get the set bonus 2, you get even more attack
Set also gives you Agitator 3 and Evade window 3 + Adrenline rush 5 if you're using the beta set
Apperntly adrenline rush isnt new
big day for dual dagger and bow fans
DAGGERS? gasp Excuse you! It's Blades /j
then why so small and puny
Also lol, i forgot what channel we were in for a moment, and i was like oh shit helldivers got the ability to dual weild daggers?!
oomf forget i can play more than one video game
I'd say more a bastard sword sixe
they are to me. im big
Fine, fine, pick the hand-and-a-half sword.
We'll call you Halfhand Founty.
😄
I happen to like bastard swords
It's true Ashley! is very big
Is anyone else having issues with infinite loading screens
Wait this actually looks not terrible
excellent drip
Oh shit that old man is SERVING
Gahhh, 3.5 more hours of work before I can play
I think it's beautiful that after all this time and all the hundreds of fancy weapons, the pinnacle of monster hunting technology is still a very big pointy spinny stick
Wrong. Swordfish.
(to be clear I was thinking of Dragonator, not swords)
spiky spinny stick is more accurate
Good lord Steve can throw hands
I hope they introduce Seregios packs, it would be a nightmare but it would also make sense from what I know of Steves
Oh shit its out?!
I gotta get on this
They let my boy keep his dignity in his own house 🥹
For once
I like that Capcom is using Rise's style of layered weapons where it's just something you can equip rather than World's style
Oh god he's gonna have me run comically convoluted errands for him or do some wacky chore
Oh shit they used the old victory theme for Lagi
There's a mystery longsword tree down beneath the Lagiacrus longsword, any idea what it is?
steve?
I suspect it's the pickaxe LS that's in a lot of games, maybe from an event later this update
Nah it isn't Steve's
I wish it was Bazel's but there's no mystery tree in the dual blades segment, so that rules him out sadly
me when i do a badass samurai technique with a pickaxe
Mining scales off of a monster
I still really hope they shadowdrop him in at some point
Be funny if it was with AT Duna
You're hunting the newest big bad superboss and then all of a sudden you hear that hauntingly familiar violin start to play
and then you realize what's happening once the other instruments start up. "oh no. he's back."
Mostly just want him back so I can wear my old Rise drip again
The helmet and coil are Seething Bazel, yeah, but still
God I'd kill for Akantor
chat
Nothing will ever come close to the Akantor GS drip
Holy fucking bingle it's Dr. House
Lagiacrus is so fucking peak.
It has made me somehow nostalgic for a game i've never played.
Yeah he's cool
I kept hearing people whine that you couldn't use weapons during underwater combat, but like, you kinda can with the CC
seriously peak
He was cool in GU but no underwater combat made him feel weird and a lot less threatening
and the fucking Tri leitmotif
Wait what if it's what the Fender collab is gonna have lmfao
You were expecting a guitar hunting horn but NAY! I have HORNSWOGGLED you and given you a guitar LONGSWORD!!!!!!!!!!!
We already have a guitar hunting horn. Three in fact!
Both Zinogres and Fatalis
I think Rise...Basarios had one?
But that was Rise horn
i hope for Gog
I want a shadowdropped Bazel
guess who's being deranged again. thats right. me. i'm doing monster hunter conlang in order to make a sort of "monster language"
Going by data mines ||very likely for tu3||
oh i am aware
Gog?
gogmazios
Conlangs are never deranged
i have NO IDEA how to do it
Ok, that concept slaps
Read Tolkien
i have
And many linguistics textbooks
Rookie mistake
Also rookie mistake. (Said with love as a fellow adhder)
i learned what conlangs were literally an hour ago
what, gog, or the monster language idea?
That's an hour you could have spent reading linguistic textbooks!
Both
i didnt know that i should've been doing that
Don't worry
I'd love this
They just help in knowing how languages work
He has imo one of the best designs in the series
i know a lot about english and its history, so i know how one language works at least
i've been meaning to learn it
it'd help with the future telling shadow creature who lives in my head and only speaks in fluent german and japanese (i do not know either language how does she speak those)
-# not being serious about that but sometimes i do hear those languages float through my head and i don't know how
Picking them up from what you watch or the ilk?
I've watched so much anime etc I have a very low grade understanding of Japanese.
Enough I can tell when subtitles aren't matching with what's said, but not enough to like follow along without subtitles
thats the thing
i dont watch many shows
in general
so i have no clue how i'm doing this
Wait on god
...on Gog lmao
Oh boy I can't wait to go look through the CAIN server, I'm sure there are many funnies and laughs to be ha-
Holy fuck, SHARA ISHVALDA?!?!?!?!
take a guess who's tupper that is
Oh is that you?
she isn't the only one
gurhurhurhurhurhur
we also have nergi, malzeno, valstrax, and recently gogmazios and zoh shia
Got a whole roster up there good god
our headspace doesn't follow the laws of physics.
Tell em I said hi and that I'm sorry for stealing their skin to make boots and ludicrously oversized swords
i will
Man, i am super rusty. Temepred Steve is murderizing me
On my end I'm annoyed that I missed AT Rey Dau, now that there's a gunlance that scales off of thunder res
While also being really good in general
are they rerunning it today?
At rey dau? I have no idea
Yayyy more grinding for minimal rewards!
I believe that they said that AT Rey Dau would return at the start of July but IDK if it has appeared yet
although I think it is the event quest to fight Rey Dau but not the timed one that gives you a cosmetic pendant? not sure
I absolutely adore Valor GS
But that's partly because I never really got the tackle down as part of my GS gameplan and so never really ran GS at a high level
Valor feels sort of like GS mixed with Swaxe a little bit
Wilds GS is probably better than Valor GS, but it took a damn long time for anything to take the crown
Valor GS is so peak
I miss Surge Slash
I may eventually go back to risebreak but with what base rise did to horn I don't know if I could
yeah, it's pretty cool so far
I still have to wrap my head around what I can do because I did exactly 1 hunt lol, but I can see the vision
got a good ol headsnipe flinch with it
Strong slash is insane
Just kinda weird to do. Gotta be standing still and do X + B I think
...oh I am gonna have to WORK for this water orb
...Christ I wish Spread didn't suck
Banished to the washing machine
Holy FUCK that is a big Seregios
Holy shit yeah that big
Chonky
Think that's my gold crown Seregios located
Jesus Christ it's bigger than a Rathalos
Rath isn't that big
Heading off for some HR hunts in World, if anyone wants to Join
so what's the most powerful lifeform in the monster hunter universe?
i feel like it has to be Aurortle, but there could be something even stronger i'm not thinking of
Us, the Hunters
Grindin Uragaan
Quick answer would be the hunters due to the fact they always pretty much kill anything but assuming that's excluded, some of the frontier monsters can get kinda crazy
(granted frontier could be argued as cheating due to its nature of being closer to MMO)
i'd say frontier is cheating lmao
buncha horseshit in that game (imagine i'm saying this lovingly)
Yeah a lot of frontiers designs are too fantastical, rather than the more grounded magical realism that monster hunter usually does
SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🔥
Good lord why do I need three Lagi sapphires for his armor set
The Wide Range 5 charm demands ones too. 🥲
Look at me. Look at this ripper.
What noises that dang thing make
the suffering of others
I've also tried "not getting hit", with reasonable success 😛
Bulwark HBG is so fun
Also jerky
Traditionally, sushifish
I've been sushifishing with wide range
but honestly the main problem feels like it's chunky as heck
tempered indeed but also oof ow
rations stop bleeding in wilds iirc
Rations are busted
They don't refill your red health bar like they used to tho'
This has been the first game I've ever fought a seregios
And I have to say
I hate it
It's my least liked fight so far
He is vtuned real high on the damage this time
Well, that's a bummer
first time i've ever had to kick someone from a MH lobby
But fuck right off with your "Go back to low rank, kid" stickers because someone fainted
has performance improved any as of recent patches?
Tu2 seems to have helped, I think?
:O
i wonder if i need to clear my shaders manually or whatever
never got around to that
I would recommend doing this, as Capcom have also recommended it
Shaders def compile fast now, which is nice
Also @stiff dust @hollow comet steam update their in game fps thing you can find under settings (overlay?), so you can get a much better breakdown of where and why performance is choking. Eg seeing what your actual frames vs DSSL is, CPU usage etc
ooh awesome, ty!
Yeah, I've noticed the game launching a lot faster lately, which I suspect has to do with the shaders compiling faster? Not sure if that's from an update or from manually clearing them
But it's nice to not have to wait 3-5 business days when I decide I want to drop in for a hunt or two
Ugh. Why do people gotta be like this
By the way, do we have any idea what the "special sharpness" does on the Seregios weapons? Is it just a few swings' worth of Protective Polish or does it have other effects?
That is a frighteningly accurate Harley Quinn cosplay
Pretty sure it's a few swings of effectively purple sharpness, as it gives a higher damage multiplier than white.
I was wondering if it was something like that 👀 neat!
I haven't experimented with it myself yet, but looks pretty cool for dodge-happy weapons like bow or dual blades.
Ooh or LS
yeah, I'm really excited
these are my 2 mains for wilds lol
Nice, you're eatin' good with TU2. I've been running hammer lately so needless to say I'm chuffed as well. 😆
:D
hammer is a great time yeah, I'm excited to try out the new offsets
i haven't engaged with offsets much but this might be my gateway
I'm still struggling a bit with the timings, but I definitely get a lot more accidentally than before 😂
The golf swing combo -> mighty charge uppercut loop gives tons of opportunities for them
Oh yeah and the new followup is very strong and satisfying

Might need to make the new Seregios set since AdRush is procced by Foresight Slash and I'm a filthy LS main
...Hey does the Seregios weapon skill also proc on Foresight?
:O
the more you know
I love LS but have trouble hitting counters sometimes if the frame rate is unstable, but hoping I can get stable 30 after the update
Yes it does
Sick
Yeah TDS has already put out a Seregios LS speedrun video, because of course they have
That one's using the armor, not the weapon, though
they worked some magic, i'm getting stable 30 (for now)
I also haven't cleared my shaders since I first got the game so clearing them probably helped
Aw fuck, lizard got a gun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lb6qTyG0dw
Agent Clever Girl, reporting for duty
#monsterhunter #monsterhunterwilds
...on the topic of guns I think this might be bigger than the actual Seregios HBG, good lord
I never thought I'd see the day when someone incorporated the Doshaguma chest into something good looking
That's a really nice fit, holy
and it's specifically the G Doshaguma chest, damn
Whaat I've had a Doshu fit the whole time, ASYMMETRY IS GOOD
the G one is shockingly dye friendly
that dosha outfit is gorgeous, wow
...god, tempered seregios is miserable
Simply do not get kicked
I've been doing my best to offset the feet when they decide to swoop at me
i've been perfect blocking with sns but the counter slash followup is iffy
does a lot tho
i failed a tempered steve investigation bc i was doing a perfect guard chain and then its hook kick deadangled around my block 😭
After saying this, i failed a tempered steve investagtion to a kick XD
Which like
Deserved
that's whati get for mouthing off
to be fair, my advice is good!
😔
i do kinda like stacking the steve armor set + steve GS for evasion shenanigans
i'm like 90% sure that the Adrenaline Rush proc triggers when your iframes collide with a monster's attack hitbox, or something to that effect, because i was definitely seeing it proc when i rolled into attacks from outside their hitbox
me, throwing myself headfirst into a monster's attack: "aha, by dint of skill i have narrowly avoided harm, what an incredible rush!"
the monster, probably: "what the fuck"
Do y'all know any armor pieces that go well with the Kranodath Alpha chest piece
The non-puffy arms one
Imo the rathian arms and legs work pretty well
How do you turn off effects btw like glowy sshiz
The second ones I mean
...does nobody invest in fucking armor anymore, why am I seeing so many onetaps on tempered gore magala hunts
Tempered gore's got some big moves, and armor spheres in this game have been scarce enough that I frankly just forget about upgrading armor
Can't you just
Make them
I swear I remember there being an armor sphere smithy in Azuz
I think you can but that's another step to getting even a small number of them when historically it was pretty easy to do so
Without much effort or melding or whatever
I'm pretty sure he can still one shot you even with maxed out armor
eh
Not really. I've certainly seen more heated gamer moments
There is a way to make spheres but I don't remember it off the top of my head. It's pretty slow/inefficient though from what I recall
I think you make them at the big forge in Azuz
using monster mats
Right now, I've hit like 430ish armor? You can apparently get up to like 500, which I need to investigate
i fee i need to fully level my shit cuz i was getting near oneshot by tempered steve kicks
Yeah that's been happening to me too with fully leveled kit
He just kind of deals unreasonable amounts of damage
One of the best horns to bring against Steve is one that gives you a large defence buff, or heroics. Let's people survive just a little longer with divine procs
It's hilarious to be pinned down hearing heroics chime again and again as Steve claws at you
One thing I didn't mention in the video--lvl 3 LWS has a 3.1x status and element modifier, so it has amazing synergy with the current Sleep GS meta.
00:00 Intro
00:16 Why is Leaping Wide Slash so good?
01:01 Perforate, LWS, and inheriting charge

02:50 Outro
#monsterhunter #greatsword #guide
Some good greatsword tech
Is that a Mizu and 3 Lagis?
I think that counts as a natural disaster
Yes, yes it is
And it was an 8 star quest.
Like okay, i dropped 4 different sets of boulders on dsteve
but DAMN
that feels good
ooh very cool
Do people just run macros to automatically get into investigations
Getting moderately tired of constantly seeing "Sorry, quest is full" when it hasn't even started yet
No, the investigations system is just bad
Or rather, the way of joining into them is bad
As a solo player, investigations are brilliant and I enjoy em lots
i know there's a lot of stuff in monster hunter that's very silly if you think about the internal logic
but Pierce Ammo has to be one of the silliest
if you use a starting bowgun, late-game monsters can literally survive ten thousand bullets piercing directly through their skull and out the other side of their head
The monster brains are smol, so can dodge
It skips along the hide like a stone on a lake
Alas poor odogaron. The dumbest dog
The Tunnel Effect
(he is, canonically, not very bright. Believes in himself real good though!)
I say this is a Bulwark HBG main
Every time the monster thinks he's clever, i simply stop shooting
So, wait, you're giving them positive reinforcement for not being idiots? Wow
I feel bad about the odogaron hate because he's my favorite fight. On both IG and DB, the odogaron fight feels halfway between a dance and a bullfight.
Ody don't need smarts when he got AGGRESSION
Odo is a goodboi sharpest friend, great animations great aesthetic love the teefs
Anger Pickle has no chill
I love him very much! He's just dumb. But he's a very good dumb boy
well
It's not my thing, but you can't argue they don't know their audience
The atronach seikret does go hard
Conversely, I hate it! I find it very boring. But that's okay, doesn't need to be for me 🙂
erik should've shown more skin
i like fire
Boring and derviative, I agree. Still well executed
Who doesn't
smokey
If Smokey had no fires, his life would be the most boring on the planet
that IS how rivalries and nemeses work
True I saw all 3 swimsuits and was thinking of that one panel in chainsaw man where Denji is thinking about angel devil
The sunhats are so gooddddd and I can actually see alma choosing that which is refreshing
Are those whales charms or what are they
Poor AT Rey Dau.
Mount knockdown into tempoered wound knockdown into KO into pitfall trap.
with the new hammer it feels so good i love the offset but i feel im braining things into unconciousness in a loop they're smelling the floor half of the hunt
One thing I kind of wish Wilds had, even though it'd probably be funky to implement, is some kind of way to search SOS flare quests by monster tier rather than specific monster
Like if I'm just trying to farm Certificate 2s or 3s and I don't care what specific monster I get them from, it'd be nice to be able to pull that up without having to remember which monster drops what
Far enough from "heheheh bikini" that I find 'em cute but not gonna 12$ about it
FUCKING finally, good lord
