okay but my carapace cannon did plenty of damage compared to the electric lance doing a whopping, uh
13
mm
that may be due to your lance's MVs/EVs
dunno how much lance gave a shit about ele vs raw in world
and specific moves have different motion values
tzitzi's hit zones are pretty simple
Yeah, Elemental damage and raw damage for melee weapons is wildly different
it's weak to every element
but has identical (maximum) weakness to thunder and ice, and has those values on all parts
The other thing to keep in mind is that elemental damage comes something along the lines of element value divide by ten, multiply by hitzone element weakness
this is rathian's hit zone stat spread
you can see that all values on fire are 0
it takes 0 fire damage
Whereas physical damage is a much more complicated forumla
yeah, there's a true raw stat and a weapon-specific inflated raw stat
that isn't actually accurate to true raw
well
it is, but it's bloated
and obfuscates the formula
but broadly speaking, the answer to "hey, my thunder lance did -5 damage to a thunder-weak monster" is "you were doing something wrong"
or "your weapon is slanted towards raw, and not elemental"
but idk anything about world lance so i can't say shit about that
Iirc lance is not a stand out elemental weapon like sns or dual blades
Oh okay
Right
and especially because of perfect rush's MVs vs its EVs
perfect rush has dogshit element values, terrible break values, and crazy bloated motion values
and in IB it was like
90% of sns's power budget
so it slanted brutally hard toward raw
base world it still had MVs that slanted it toward raw, but not as drastically
and even with perfect rush (and especially in wilds with your charged chop rotation), it's a both weapon
more raw > more ele, but broadly speaking it's a weapon that you do want to match elements to instead of just running blast
part of what i love about sns
Looking at Tzizi's hitzones, it's weak to thunder all over but absurdly weak to Raw damage.
shit uhhh
It's whichever is good, iirc
That might be an old thing
huh
no you're right, it carried over at least to world
i just searched based on what you said
In 4U at least, it seems Lance would deal sever, but uses Sever/Blunt depending on hitzone?
and it's sever damage (so it doesn't stun like bonk)
Only the shield stagger dazed tout
but calculates weakness based on the monster's more susceptible type
Yeah
neat!
Fundamentally, lance doesn't have big high mv moves, except for its charging 180° sweep cancel
but yeah scrolling all the way back up to the specifics of this post:
it's probably something to do with the moves (and as such their motion values) you used, the tzitzi's hit zones, and/or your build
or specific weapon
you might've picked something with bad sharpness
or that just sucks
were you using a lower-tier weapon?
than your previous test
Lr weapon vs hr tzitzi?
Also like, ought not compare a gunlance's overhead smash with a lance mid-poke
yeah
lance smash has one of its best MVs
for single-hit damage
and is usually part of its best MV per second combos
Lance is fundamentally a damage over time weapon
lr
im fighting the balloon freak rn and this anja gunlance is doing jack again
is the gunlance just bad at elemental damage?
back to the carapace cannon then
Gunlance is especially bad at element because shelling is it's own thing.
Smash->fullburst, fork to either wyrmstaxk or quick reload
oh also
wide is the only shelling type
that gives the slightest shit about element
(in world)
*Normal shell is the most full-burst focused.
normal and long slant even harder raw
and long is, in world, a nearly pure shelling beast
normal and wide are the ones that use melee (shelling doesn't interact with element or raw)
Also 13 damage for a lance poke in lr is like, fine
You do a ton of them and you never stop because counterguard resets your combo
Gunlance element damage only comes from your physical attacks and not shelling so the added damage does not appear all that often unless you're doing a very slapping-focused approach
Lance doesn't have to stop attacking for a lot of enemy attacks
Does the shelling taking sharpness mean that gunlance is cracked completely with the horn that gives sharpness back on the team?
It's only the one but damn
Might help extend time between sharpens. I've been using a Protective Polish jewel with World Gunlance to avoid the cost entirely (for 60 sec after sharpen).

Re: Mizutsune - It looks like What they're doing is ||Tempered Mizu is getting moves from Violet and Soulseer, plus has some scars identical to Soulseer. so not literal soulseer, but a big riff on it||
Thats what my group figured, It was either going to be that or ||Mizu got a 3rd enrage state like zinogre gets.||
Personally i was hoping for the later because i think thats cooler
its funny to implement this for the game's weakest monster
Maybe nu udra or xu wu will do it since they have the big flop or the mouth charge
Xu Wu at least you can injure during the charge you trigger a unique topple state
Incredibly
Agree, but oh well
I do like monsters with silly multiple enrage states though
Give me a monster that actually has 3 different states, only one of those is normal enrage, and they're all independent, but can stack together
Maximum shenanigans
God can’t help you if all three stack
Questiones:
does crit element jewels increase paralyzer or sleep status or is it only elements?
Ah there's a critical stat jewel
Whoopsy doodle
I'm gonna smack someone once and slap a monster to sleep immediately
Mr. Sandman Strikes Again
unfortunately, if you're talking wilds, crit ele/status are really poor rn
if you're not stacking them with your given ele/status+ skill, then you should be running those instead - and i assume you are stacking
eh, I whacka the monster
for status there's def the niche of "i want to make them paralyzed even harder", but for ele i would caution you against it in all scenarios
p much any other dps skill is going to be stronger per rank
no matter the weapon type
Horn is a little different due to the echo waves. Critical element may still be low prio but I'd have to check
afaik crit ele is still outmoded on horn
although aiui atk boost is actually good on it?
unlike most weapons
i need to do research on horn
There's a good Discord for info on it but it's like
I honestly wasn't sure what else I could stick on there
Crit boost and horn maestro are very good
Would crit boost hit a cap?
Wym?
Crit boost doesn't have to worry about external caps like affinity does or anything
It just increases your crit multiplier. With no crit boost your crits do 1.25x damage. With CB5 your crits do 1.4x damage
Ah righto
This is a good guide for figuring out how to optimize damage and other things https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MK8dawS-pH-6lvlHYFYV5QmEXtohyEiJPlJM9L2Gy5A/edit?usp=sharing
It's more meta/damage focused but the info is very useful
danke
I love when you put ajarakan to sleep it just whumps forward onto it's face and starts snoring with it's butt in the air
Would that be the shared sleep animation between all three apes? In any case, I've always loved how cartoony monster hunter can be when it wants with stuff like that. The modern games going for more and more realism actually only makes it funnier in context
Man, poor Uth immediately getting two other apex Leviathan's crashing their house
Uth’s getting shown how real leviathans handle business (you’re the business)
honestly Uth Duna deserves to get bullied
bro should be classified as an amphibian not a leviathan
Switch axe is the hands down coolest weapon in the game and when you master it you will be the coolest hunter in the squad
There's a reason it's called Swag Axe
The trade off: you are going to whiff so many times before you get to look cool
i already whiff wyrmstake enough
Welcome home brother
Man if greatsword could guard just a little faster out of its attack recoveries that would be nice in world
if you look at a timelapse of the windward plains during sandtide it looks hilarious
Hornb
dont insult it if you dont play it
If you hold a direction during weapon recovery while pressing guard it comes out faster
Emily is talking about World tho, which I'm not sure that's true of
plus, guarding with GS in World is pretty bad from what I remember
Ah fuck I can't read
And yeah guarding in World has a lot of drawbacks. Really torches your sharpness for one
It's quite good in Wilds and I really enjoy it. That and offset give it a ton more depth
I definitely have always felt like World was a bit of a low point for GS. Granted, that was where I started the series, so part of it was probably because I sucked, but GS in World has very little options compared to other games. Between styles, hunter arts, switch skills, wirebug attacks, and Wilds' defensive options, GS is much more dynamic and feels way better in all the other recent titles. All World added was the true charged slash, which doesn't really make your neutral game any better.
World added tackle. That was the genuinely transformative part
Tcs was a big deal, but tackle took the weapon from crit draw only to actually having multiple options.
We have the block and the offset, and the weapon isn't about spam tcs as much
It's still a powerful tactic
probably part of it is because I mostly used Surge Style super armor in Sunbreak instead of tackle, and then my most recent stint with GS before Wilds was GU
so yeah, just forgot about it lol
Normalizing the damage of GS's charged attacks really did wonders for it, as well as charge inheritance
I still wish there was a way to get some of the GU Valor style attacks back.
Ultra slash or whatever it was called was kinda fun but being able to charge into a dashing slash was unparalleled
I'm gonna be honest and say I really liked the switch skill system and the GU style system
Valor is the one style I haven't played
I'd appreciate some version of moveset customization in Wilds, but I doubt it'll happen
Played Gen, but I never got gen u
as in minimally customizable movesets?
The problem TM with customization of movesets is it's a huge add on dev load, esp around balance.
Yeaaah
I prefer really in depth movesets, rather than a bunch of minor choices. A lot of aerial etc were basically stick your main move behind this gimmick
SnS is already eating well! Stop giving it thoughts and prayers! It'll become too powerful!
You absolutely should if you get a chance btw
There is a good English patch for MHXX for the 3DS if you have a modded one
It's a money issue, basically
I have a switch, just hard to justify the spare cash
Modding your 3DS is easy .jpeg
I actually find the 3DS screen pretty hard on my eyes these days
Damn.
Well GU will surely be on sale again sometime
at some point
It will be there
Ye, just a matter of if I have cash at the time
I have 120 nzd to last me a week rn -.-
The wonders of being chronically ill and on a benefit
getting close to killing Alatreon
i'm the only one who hasn't died during the quest so far
prolly cause i'm playing like a coward since i'm running ice attack instead of speed eating and divine blessing
failed quest at sub-5% health 😭
been trying out all the weapons and im actually really clicking with LS this time
landing a spirit iai slash feels awesome
Yeah! Feels a bit weird when you fail sometimes, but passing it is great
I hope they patch out the delay like they did in Rise
there's a delay? i thought i was imagining it
Alatreon is still a fight i really do not enjoy
Alatreon is
Not great
Mostly due to his many DPS checks
You have to play it pitch perfect or you just eat shit
NICE
i really am pleased to never have to do that again

Valor style in GU/XX is wack after getting it revved up.
That's what I've heard
yeah it's really good
I need a little thing about what it's best to hit a monster/bombs with if you manage to sleep/trap it
Cause I've been sleeping them pretty good now, and I don't know if I should be hitting them in the face with an offset attack, should I let dual blades do a thing, or just throw raw bombs?
Great Sword.
Sleep doubles the damage of any hit that wakes the mosnter up
So you want to use the single hardest hitting attack you have access to for the weakeup
In multiplayer, that's usally the greatsword
Notably: this does not apply to bombs.
bombs just do flat damage with no modifiers
they're still a useful wakeup tool if you are dual blading or lancing or whatever and dont have a big hit
since a mega does... 250? I think
and you can just stick one down and then throw another one at them onster
otherwise, hit with your single biggest attack you can
for Greatsword, it's True Charged Slash, you just intentionalyl whiff the weak hit
and then hit the real hit
easy 1k+ damage
Greatsword is king, but it does require iterating through to the tcs
I feel horn itself doesn't have anything that would be better than a couple of bombs. What about stuff like switchaxe or SnS?
Honestly, this is the sort of thing where y ou can hit up Monster Hunter Meta
Lance is kinda okay to just whiff a poke, then turn using focus mode and combo to the sweep
and get some really good answers
Ye, if you watch the speedrun i posted earlier, you see them not bothering with TCS, just using Strong charge etc to wake up, because it's faster
(they bully Arkveld so hard it sleeps twice in under a minute)
TCS also has a quirk in Wilds where the second hit only does full damage if you also hit with the weak first hit
Iirc thats from iceborn
Light bowgun is the bane of sleeping situations
sns isn't great in terms of wakeup options as most of their big hits are combo enders (and even then aren't super large). If in a pinch for some reason, you can backstep from neutral guard into the charged slash
I get to watch as they plink the monster in the head once and wake it up
I mean that's just 90% of online hunters
That's been a thin since World
It actually changes the name of the move if you connect the weak hit with a weakpoint
I think the horn's overhead smash is a decent wake up option (although I'm not sure if that's still in Wilds)
But yeah, you just eat the penalty in Wilds because the unempowered hit of TCS still hits like a mach truck
The Overhead smash is no longer around properly I think, unless you count the offset attack
Double note input?
Oh right yeah, though I think offset might hit harder
not all the horns have the offset anyways
True, but the sleep horn I made does, and it's the only way to get a sleep horn
For Monster Hunter Wilds on the PlayStation 5, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "HH wake up attack".
I had a moment when I didn't realize another hunter was in the hunt. I'd laid two bombs to set a charged wakeup hit with thr lance, and then while I'm charging another hunter comes up, and starts laying a bomb as I release
Looney toons moment
"u h o h"
WOOMF
Seems like you could faff around with three waves and then encore into the monster head... or just offset it in the face
probably better just to offset
But are we going to make a monhun bowling league?
Of course
Who else is picking up World in the wake of Wilds?
I might go back.
If you have a switch I would recommend Generations Ultimate
I do not have a Switch
I'd also rec world over genU if you're getting IB with it
although they're both v good games
If you have a Modded 3ds I reccomend getting MHXX english patched
(Its GU but on the 3ds)
Also though world is a good game and still has players
I'm strongly considering going back for a bit yeah
I dropped off shortly after safi and I would like go go back and beat alatreon/fatalis
I went back to Rise to finish off a run of Sunbreak with some old friends
I started playing Rise for the first time after accepting that my computer couldn't run Wilds and I'm having a ball
Rise good!
Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise-
(and right now I secretly prefer it to wilds due to the richness of the Sunbreak content)
But that's some amount of "content complete game go brrrr"
Disregard Previous opinion, Rise is bad, Deny all attempts to change your opinion
/s/s
Asploded
Rise is fun but you def wanna have the DLC so you get scroll swaps and the other weapon styles
I may come back to Risebreak at some point. Base rise did not impress me and it completely butchered hunting horn so I didn't stick with it long
Also just didn't like Wirebug dashing
Sunbreak is worlds better (like, so, so much better), but if you don't like wirebugs then it probably isn't worth it for you.
It just provided too much safety for my liking
Wirefall was way too strong IMO
You can just yoink yourself out of almost every bad situation if you don't panic
Yeah. If we were gonna get something like that I appreciated GU's Absolute Evasion/Readiness arts much more than Wirefall
They still required you to actually engage with the monster to recharge it, hitting them and such, rather than a (pretty short!) regular cooldown, and ate up an Art slot
I don't like that Seikrets get you out of harm's way either
i didn't know seikrets could even do that until yesterday
Yeah. You obviously don't have to do it but necessarily the hunts in the game are going to be designed with it in mind that you can
uh oh
I'm not sure what to do next
I've got all the weapons in my weapon category, I've got the top armour (not fully upgraded but that's like... just getting orbs...) and I've got a good chunk of random items and upgraded talismans
kill monsters you like to kill
or get every talisman/armor set for prep & fashion
or just stop playing
and wait for the TUs to give more content
or make a new toon and play through the story again with them
I like hunting monsters I just feel weird without a goal
... this is probably a bad sign about dopamine addiction that I really enjoy the wishlist and just constant little pings for yey you got a new thing
It is a bit odd that there's like... random and cool armour sets that are locked behind random drops from the trade people
like the sinister cloths
You’ve got the top armor, so maybe go out and try a new weapon type! Get all of its stuff as well! You never know what you’ll like!
otherwise you're only playing like 10% of the game (I'm exaggerating, but still)
My goal is to learn how to use every weapon
When I say learn to use I more mean learn to have fun with every weapon
Even the bowguns
Maybe you could strive for something similar?
It's also not a bad sign that you want to put down the game, having done a really significant chunk of all the content, even a majority
Yeah I have pretty much horned my way through this entire game
yuh
But also, then I'll ruin my lovely chart of "you have done nothing but horn you mad man"
I tried swaxe before settling into greatsword as my secondary
And certainly nothing against the game, it's given me damn good hours and I've pushed it well into the beyond, and I'm looking forward to the future stuff. I guess I just wanna keep on moving forward.
I have also leveled up my talismans a bit. not all of them of course but got some good ones in the mix. Had to do some terrible things to arkveld repeatedly to get thems gems.
Yes, this is actually a thing. Bonus points to anyone who remembers this dance for their next con.

Just in case you still had any illusions about monster hunter being a serious series
It always amazes me when people say that monster hunter is a serious series. Monster hunter? The game where there’s cute cat people who make cat puns all the time? The game where you can kill monsters with a giant fish? The game where there’s a big pink monkey who farts on you? THAT monster hunter?
that's because it is
it's just in a nonstandard way
monster hunter is, from a player's perspective, entirely unserious
you can dress your character in ridiculous outfits, put your cat buddies into even more ridiculous outfits, and many of the monsters are deranged
which is where the lack of understanding when people call it a "serious" series comes from
rather, all of the Lynian eccentricities, bizarre monsters, goofy outfits, and grandiose statements are all taken completely earnestly next to everything else
when congalala shows up (still my least favorite monster in the series, but hey), the characters don't go
"hee hoo it's the shart monkey"
they treat it as another thing in the environment
it's A Serious Monster, to be classified as normal and registered as a threat or nonthreat, just like the hungry winged wyverns that spit fire and eat each other on screen
monster hunter is a serious series because it takes itself seriously and presents itself earnestly
That is is and that it does
which is also how it makes its ecosystems "feel" coherent or reasonable, if not realistic
it takes itself seriously, dwells just enough and provides just enough depth to suggest the presence of more, or establish the idea of another layer
so in summary, this is a common and understandable perspective that i think fails to internalize the way monhun's setting is established
Yeah, it threads the needle nicely
The world building and care gone into thigns is very serious
it is also just willing to be ridiclous and have fun with stuff
it's why, in the same games with the sharting monkey (4 and wilds both), you also have a plotline straightfacedly dedicated to a monster called fucking Gore Magala
who rampages through ecosystems looking like little timmy's shadow the hedgehog OC, disrupting the natural world by infecting monsters with GET SO ANGRY YOU LITERALLY EXPLODE disease
each of these things are presented with the same amount of earnest acceptance dedicated to their respective threat levels
and why gore magala fucking rules
Gore Magala does indeed go as hard as fatalis scales
how do you slow reel on ps5 cuz i had my bait in front of a speartuna for like 20 minutes it felt like 😭 idk what im doing wrong
i cant even do the mini game it wont bite
I bet you have a pretty good relationship with the women in your life because damn those fish are scared of you
you need to throw the bobber behind the fish and then reel it slowly past them
just move the left stick up and down slowly
full disclosure though, some of the big fish are really annoying to do the mini game successfully on, at least with a controller. The only mod I have installed so far is one that gives you infinite line durability lol
lol yeah i got them to bite but that minigame i just dont get it i just want my funny sword
i know you move it with them except when it goes behind something then its opposite, then r2 when it jumps? but sometimes i fail when i do that
are there two types of jumps lol
Okay
so
To get it to actually bite on:
You just have to start reeling the hook in
when it jumps, the fish can go in one of three directions. You have to flick the stick in the correct direction
and also hit R2
you do this by making the stick go up and down
ohhhhhh
Or to put it in keyboard terms: If W is Up on your thumbstick, and S down, you just hit W/S/W/S/W/S
i got it to slow reel by just doing circles, but i didnt know the direction plus r2 thinig
its hard to tell what direction its jumping
Yeah you have to have really good reaction time for it
but honestly that wasn't the part that tripped me up the most
Ye,. i dont think i landed any jumps
i just got it by dfoing the other stuff correct
the biggest issue is that some types of fish switch directions multiple times in quick succession
They do that more as they get closer to being cauhgt in my experience
I think it's an issue with the fact that analog inputs can't instantly swap to the opposite direction like a digital input can
Nice!
noice
I do wish the mega fish were in more than just scarlett forest
all 4? that you can catch are in there
Speartuna?
Where else would you hold that fish from to be fair?
holding it from the bottom would be a pretty wide grip and not to mention the fins
That just makes it even funnier anyways
Indeed
It's a joke weapon, gotta go all in
kinda like castlevania aria of sorrow's excalibur
instead of swinging the sword itself you just swing the sword in the stone
Caladfwlch time
I absolutely adored this ending
Horn should have had a la barina weapon that is just a leg in a silk stocking that plays the first few notes of "the stripper" when blown into
As a joke weapon
Any helmet recommendations for gunlance? I don't really have one I like available
im just using the legiana one
HAHA
YEAH
needed a large elder dragon gem for my ala db's
was going to craft them with a celestial
but i thought that since i needed to hunt an elder for my weekly celestial i thought
hey, i'll hunt an elder and hope i get one
AND I DID YEAAAAAHHHH
low rank or high rank/master rank?
from a wiki dive, i personally would recommend Damascus, Demonlord, and Garuga out of rarity 11 helmets
gotcha... guardian armor count?
i forget, have you fought a lavasioth at that point yet?
no idea what that is
I'm tempted to just for the Kirin fight
sounds like a no on lavasioth
yeah i havent fought one of those yet
the three with red crosses are ones i havent killed yet
everything else i've killed at least one
gotcha, lemme look up their armor rq
i think i used odogaron set and called it a day
ok so
i might just
cheat in my first item
my alatreon dual blades need a direwing to upgrade
i can get the mantle by way of elder melder
but i just
don't want to fucking fight Alatreon again and try to break its wing for a direwing
love having my quests fucked by not getting time to prep and just being thrown right at the monster
what fight/quest?
is it the first one? cause you can prep in the camp except I think in the first with cutscene
it is, it dropped me into the fight immediately on my first try
i just quit out of the quest
ive fought balahara low rank like 20 times ive never gotten a single aqua sac i just want my cool pontiff sulyvann swords
I have
one aqua sac from i think the mud fish in the wastes i forget it's name
I need two for an increased harvest box
i remember now
jyatodurus
in fact i probably got two of them cause i made the madness gunlance
im missing something
i have never seen this monster before
is it a small one?
right yeah it's an apceros
Every attack builds up stun, and can stun iirc. It's just a general mechanic
really cool and awesome design decision for capcom to give the rathalos not only fire, fire which stuns you reliably, but also poison
which can ALSO stun you
I read that as "dark souls squirrel" for a moment. Thinking about squirrelgirl. I wonder what a dark souls squirrel would look like.
Well if it's anything like the birds and the dogs, keep it away
i love wylk burst it really makes me feel like ive stolen their powers to adapt
Booty stab activate!
i wish you could just buy low rank materials in high rank instead of going back to fight a low rank nerscylla or whatever cuz i didnt make this sword back then
You can get some stuff from the provisions guy or trading with villagers
hey Freyja, we got a poke that you're kinda rage posting a fair bit here
Can you ease up on that please?

Side by side comparison of different options for cancelling endlag. My conclusion is that they are more or less the same, so be flexible and use the best one according to the situation. A caveat is that, using perforate as much as possible, even w/o wounds, will massively increase your dps. It is better than roll tackle combo extending in every ...
45 hours in, high rank, ive never seen more than 1 turf war, how is this possible
Skill issue
probably
i see monsters hit eachother sometimes during hunts, but its never the polished animation with the little turf war placard

HUH
did it
nice
i do 😔
You guys got any tips for LR Kirin? Let me get what I'm currently running for it
and i take the food to max out my health, stamina, plus a max demondrug and armorskin potion
oh and a veggie platter
What's your lightning resist?
thought i included that
22
considering i'm still being taken from half health to cart i dont think it's enough
LR kirin is kinda like that for a bit
The highest lightning protection stuff I have is blossom, followed by Barroth, Kadachi and Ingot
it's your first introduction to "hey elder dragons are mean"
is all of your armor leveled?
no but now that you mention it i'll do that
armor defense is exceptionally impactful
far more so than one would expect
the bonuses from advancing to higher tiers of baseline defense and from upgrading are both surprisingly significant, compared to the way defense investment is talked about in monhun
(this is because the defensive skills are usually super inefficient and as such extremely not worth it, other than ele resist)
right
(but that too is less efficient than most offensive skills)
(however, efficiency doesn't matter if you cart)
seems like a full set of kadachi might be good
if that's getting you to a higher baseline light res and/or def, almost certainly
kadachi everything except belt is my plan
and i'll just use the blossom belt
(kadachi belt gives thunder attack)
i don't remember the granular details of World's LR gear, so I'll just give a thumbs up
125 defence, 28 thunder
you're looking at the numbers, so i assume you know what's what
raw def means nothing to me, I've always just compared while in game
so all I can give is the baseline info
hope it goes better
even outside of monster rank, monsters often function in "tiers" like this
where you'll get vibe checked by a normal for 70% hp
and go "ah, i haven't upgraded or swapped my armor in ten MSQ hunts"
"i see this was The Next Tier Of Numbers"
always keep up with your armor upgrades
it makes a bigger difference than you might think
Thunderproof mantle is pretty vital into Kirin IMO
Thunderproof and Temporal usually, but you don't have Temporal yet
you get thunderproof after you defeat it
oh lmao
I forgot
question, do you think it's better to go for the alpha or beta high rank variants of armours in mhw
Alpha has more skills, beta has slots
depends on what armor skills you want, and what decorations you have
only got an attack jewel rn
if you don't have useful decos yet, use alpha.
gotcha
That reminds me, I'm curious about what gamma sets will have in Wilds because I don't remember that being a thing in World
They were around in world. They typically had better...everything compared to their normal sets
Better skills, slots, defense, etc.
I wonder why I don't remember gamma then
A good chunk of them where event based since the arch Tempered monsters where event quests
I think the last big fight I gotta do in world is AC velk
Currently, the goto meta set for most everythign is 2 piece Fulgur (Head and arms, both beta), 2 piece gore (Waist and legs), and Arkveld chest - all beta
You can go for Alpha Fulgur Head if you're laking in decos
Bring ice resist. No, more than that. no, MORE THAN THAT
how many of these are iceborne
Oh, I thought you were talking about Wilds because your said high rank
World high rank? Build alpha. You'll be replacing it with Master rank gear the moment you get there anyway
oh yeah i'm in world
Zero reason to faff around with beta until Master Rank
(in MR beta is just generally better, due to the massive amount of deco slots, esp t4 deco slots)
Behold! A google sheets workbook for comparing weapons and armor in Monster Hunter: Wilds!
This is version 0.5, which while mostly complete is missing a aggregate display of the skills with levels for each gear set and highlighting for active group skills and set bonuses.
To use, go to File > Make a copy, which will add an editable version to your google drive account
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1A_FWsKjD9AWlQCbeQ-B9NRq10cxU1hmaiUSTuQQkpaQ/edit?usp=sharing
This ais apprently from the recent interview they did
i'm still trying to source that
but it points to evidence that Tmeprezd Mizu may in fact b e a riff on Soulseer
thinking about the food in Wild, it makes sense the Keepers can only provide crops as they very much do not have any domesticated animals or know how to hunt, but gosh, they could have some starchy crops to create things like bread right?
Probably possibly? They seem to just favor veggies that can be eaten with minimal prep
I imagine labor intensive crops are probably reserved for paper making & ink making
or maybe this also represents how the Keepers is like in the story, that they are essentially locked in time and never really develop in the past millennia
oh yeah that too
they didn't or couldn't redevelop bread, one of the foundation of food
Good god, Nata's head must be exploding from eating that bread
he finally gets to eat something other than keeper gruel
hmm
speaking of monhun food
chat am I cooking?
nice
i need gajau and chips
It's somewhere between a melee and ranged due to the close range and charge mechanics
Plus advice varies depending on what game you're in
wilds atm
Don't use Tracer rounds they're a trap. Spam power shot and dodge charging.
One sec lemme pull up a guide
The complete Bow tutorial for Monster Hunter Wilds. Everything you want to know, in one place!
00:00 Bow Weapon Workshop
01:52 Bow Explained

08:30 Basics: Core Moves & Combos
10:56 Charged Shots
11:17 Normal & Charged Shots
12:37 Quick & Power Shots
12...
This should have basically all you need to know about bow.
For now anyway
Keep in mind Title Update 1 might rebalance bow to make my Tracer and Power Shot advice incorrect
Oh and keep in mind Dragon Piercer at the end of a combo is way faster iirc
Counterpoint Tracer rounds look cool
Why live if not to see arrows bend through air
Also I'll add that tracer rounds are kinda nice because they extend your effective range
magda lahat time
Yeah I like tracers for the auto full power
It's a very slight damage loss, but you don't have to dash dance to maintain full charge
Also, homing quickshots
tbh I'm too lazy to figure out how to play bow "properly"
I only use it in multiplayer and I just do Dragon Piercer spam
which is still pretty funny
and feels way better than the equivalent in World
I love the dodge shot and im going to be using that a lot when the monsters get faster
Spikes?
What
Nergi
Was this the main source of pain in that battle?
He smoves a. Lot
Imagine not having ranged attacks
Thinking about fucking around and trying lance
He moves a lot ,gets in your face, and then reminds you that Elder Dragons don't need fancy mcguffin magic attacks to kill you
they c an just smash y ou into the ground with a paw
It's so fucking frustrating trying to find reliable info about slinger mechanics. The net is so flooded with garbage journalism that just restates the tutorials and Google is absolutely useless now even with search markup to "emphasize" terms that it just ignores anyway.
Stuff I've seen:
Grounding pods into Rey Dau's head stop the railgun
Puddle pods into Rathian/los mouth stops fireballs for a bit
Something with explosive pods on Gravios but it didn't seem repeatable on testing
Flash pods on any flying monster is an instant hard knockdown
Brightmoss into the eyes of a flying monster acts like a flash too
Torch/bomb pods can ignite the oil puddles in the basin and make them explode
I'm so sure there's other effects (sometimes I've gotten the "special slinger effect" card when I haven't noticed anything obvious occur) but those are the ones I'm absolutely certain of.
I confirmed brightmoss on flying monsters a while back. You just need to hit them on the head. To be clear, it's when the monster is in a flying state, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work when they're flying away somewhere else, only when they're actively still fighting you. So like when Rathalos is doing its aerial attacks (that's just how flash pods work in general).
Not sure about flying away or not, but definitely any time they're in the air. I'll give that a test next time I get the chance, I'd expect it to still work?
Well so far I've never been able to knock them out of the air when they're flying to a different area. I know it was different in World/Iceborne. Can't remember Rise. But I know it doesn't work in GU (talking about flash bombs in that game).
i managed to a few times, but not once they were like
in The State
just when they were de-aggroing during takeoff
and i stopped being able to after a patch, so it might've been a bug they fixed
It def seems intentional you can't just zone Lock them like you could in days of old
Oh I’m
*um
Bright moss fascinates vespoids
They’ll sting monsters you tag w it and if you stick it to a wall they stare and go passive
Screamer Pods work against burrowing Diablos exactly like flash pods against flying monsters, doing a hard knockdown if it's still in combat against you.
I actually still have basically no idea what the screamer pods are supposed to do in Wilds
Is it only for Balahara basically?
Fair, and I'm tired.
Do screamer pods get monsters' attention? It feels like the sort of thing they'd do.
It's also stuns an endemic life. I believe it works on Yian, and there may yet be other "sensitive hearing" monsters
The artian weapon thing makes me wish we could make custom weapons from different monster parts
The one big thing I wish MH had
Imagine being able to customize your weapon output by tweaking what parts you use to put into it
Multi-monster gear
I guess decorations kind of do that but I'm also thinking fashion
i just got two rathalos wings in a mission i didnt touch a rathalos in uth duna does not play around
Uth Duna like "that hunter stole my fried rath wings"
rathalos king of the skies, hey where'd the uth duna go
on the top rope with a mucus chair
i hope they dont let it get bossed around too bad when mizu and lagi show up
i wouldnt let that shit happen to me in my own home, pick yourself up apex
I am excited to fight the new monster
Monsters
I know they from other things but I am MH babby
The octopus monsters are so cool
they had concepts for them a while but they needed tech to catch up to the vision, xu wu might be my favorite guy period
I want to fight so many monster
i own rise through steamshare i think i should check it out tho ive heard its a bit more of a themepark in comparison
the cephalopod monster skeleton is a really good addition yeah
Nargacuga could be sonic podded in previous games. It's posisble others who will be added will be albe to be
Eh, if it does, tehy'll probably imemdiatley have a terrible time when Arch-Tempered Uth Duna comes out
Also stuff form thedev diaries makes it sound liek we might be getting 8* subspecies ish versions of hte apex? it is vaugely worded
"End of May Update
In addition, the update at the end of May will add the Tempered Monsters (★8) Gore Magala and the apex predators of each locale: Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad.
Each of these monsters have had various behind-the-scenes adjustments to make them more resilient, such as increased health, resistance to wounding, and tweaks to multiplayer scaling."
This is a little ocnfusingly worded, esp since we know Mizu is jumping from being a 5* normally, to an 8* for it's tempered version (Who appears to be riffing on Soulseer)
I've been a little curious about the soulseer comparisons with mizu, did i miss something?
like don't get me wrong i fuckin adore soulseer so more stuff from them is my favorite
just curious where we're getting it
the reveal trailer for mizutsune had some things which looked like soulseer in it
That's a glimpse in the trailer of a mizu with a scarred, missing eye glowing Blue with fire, while emitting blue flames.
Both signature soulseer things. I don't think it's going to literally be soulseer, and think anyone expecting that is going to be let down, but they seem to be very much riffing on it
Very happy to see it acknowledged atleast
Combined with the fact that mizu jumps three tiers and 20 hunter ranks for it's tempered version and Something is Up
Tempered mizu just get violet's spirit bomb
Enlighten the poor series noob to the context?
Old mizu variant seems to be getting a good few aspects integrated into wild's mizu visually
(this is me trimming out all my rambling about the deviant system and soulseer specifically)
So deviants were a system for Generations and Generations ultimate, they were like variant's subspecies but usually with a bigger change
usually
you had stuff like dreadking rathalos who had access to explosive powder and could make an explosive meteor, dreadqueen rathian who had access to deadly poison and some really fucky attacks, Extra Zappy Zinogre, and a good few other ones like how the fated four all got one
Soulseer specifically was pretty interesting because it is blind, and mechanically they DID try to reflect this, it relies a lot more on its bubbles, big wide swinging attacks, and it only enters enrage if someone, A touches one of its bubbles or B its health is low enough
(given how many it made, A was more often than you think)
A lot of deviants have seen some of their aspects or attacks meshed into the normal monster as, while the system was COOL AS FUCK, it had issues
Namely how much you had to farm the monster, now yeah sure its a monhun game, farming is usually expected but in the case of deviants it was mandatory rather than just being at the whims of fate, you basically had to do a tier 1 through 10 hunt on them, and evey 3 tiers was a rank up (lr/hr/gr) more or less, theres some intrinsics if you wanna get specific but blegh, with tier 10 usually being super fucking rough but also a fun challenge to see how well you know the monster
there was also the need to have tickets to actually fight the monsters and yeah, grind to grind basically
but another big issue was in the armour, the deviant armours had an effect that was basically deviant's variant name soul, and most of these were either BUSTED AS FUCK (dreadking gave HG earplugs and attack up XL iirc) or Not Great, these would be unlocked by upgrading the armour high enough and i believe you had to wear the full set for it?
Ah i was wrong
wasnt HG on dreadking soul it it was windproof high, fuckin whoops
where am i recalling earplugs from, then
OHHHH cause it was just part of the armour itself, not specifically soul
Huh, ok
Soulseer soul was kinda fucked though
Challenger is what agitator used to be called for context
But yeah, the soul effects were neato and might partially be a progenitor to the set bonuses we have now? cause a big thing in the older games (and to my understanding to world to an extent) is mixed sets were king and it made full sets weird
so they just tried to fuck with and make benefits to running a full set
Actually in saying that i dont recall how much mixed sets fucked in MH3U, mighta just been a 4U onwards thing
I'm sad the mixed rathy dual blades don't have their unique mixed stats anymore
Just fire damage boo
short of why mixed sets were a big thing in those games was due to how the skill system worked, back then you had to hit actual numbers from skill points on armour (not uncommon to see 10/15 on bigger skills) rather than using a "oh your armour has a level in this skill you have this skill at this level" so you had pieces that had like
+7 points to challenger or something like that and if you combined it with something else you could get this skill at a really high grade with just 2 pieces
it was a lot more specific in what skills you could build your whole thing to but it A made fashion a pain in the ass and B usually boiled down to having an objectively best set
except 4U
4U just had an insanely busted set of armour tied to an easy event quest that buffed the fuck outta IG, and 4U IG is next gen levels of bullying
like look at this shit man
sure its only 3 skills but you also had 3 3 slot deco slots and 2 ones if you wanted to bump handicraft
which frankly you didnt need to, edge lore was fuckin' stupid
I miss the 3U days sometimes lol
Steady hand for context gave you mind's eye and halved the rate your sharpness depleted
Wearing absolute disaster sets that JUST pushed it to having the one skill you wanted
Heh
i both miss it and dont
with layered armour i wouldnt mind it
but on the other hand full sets, in a weird way, have felt kinda more flexible as long as its not Uber Strong
God i apologize i entered a fuckin' fugue state there
bloodbath for wilds trust
Inshallah
Bring back Grimclaw. I need my hunting horn back
AUXL + HG Earplugs, negate environmental effects, negate binds
I don't miss the old style of armor
because i saw too many people online who would get as many points as they could
across as many skills
...and thus have zero active skills
I met somebody in real life in g-rank Who did that
3u days were crazy dude
People didnt know
and tbh who can blame them back then
I personally enjoyed it
I think it had it's merits, but simplicity is a virtue
I almost feel like we have too many skills on our armor now. I kinda liked the puzzle building aspect of it
My only real opinion on it is that GU is still active and able to play if i ever wanna play some old gen monster hunter for any bits i miss
Xuwu is totally an apex,,, disrespect
Would you like some Sekiro in your MonHun?
Lance rules
I'm not a lance player, but I have definitely been discovering the joys of blocking since I moved over to GS and CB from the swaxe
Shield good
Oh yeah, World doesn't have much to offer in that sense beyond Offensive Guard iirc
im trying to find a video i remember of a fan made turf war of like a rajang or something catching crimson glow valstrax while rules of nature plays
Also uh
Yeah world is mostly counter thrust and clutch parry
Is it just me or is uh
Kulu Lance tree absolutely insane
Like it seems like just the best raw lance
Good damage, good sharpness, incredible affinity
It's decent yeah
Kulu weapons seem like really solid choices through midgame for most trees
At least from what I've been able to tell
I am getting better at swaxe funny parry move
You can't color the chatacabra camo pants it just colors the patches, uselessssss
A more comprehensive set of dyes would be nice
And like Romo armor it's just sort of a blush so it's always purple and something else
I get why some things might be monster colored but also I wanna play more dressup
On the one hand, I approve. On the other hand, many people should not be allowed to play dress up
monster can't cart you if they're blinded by your drip
through the magic of conditional formatting and COUNTIF, my wilds gear spreadsheet now correctly highlights any active group skills, and will highlight set bonuses in different colors depending on if you have level 1 or 2!
also, fun question since google has been extremely unhelpful: do we know the actual numerical values for sharpness at all?
not their damage coefficients, I have those, but the actual stuff like "X sharpness value is Green/Blue/White/etc."
I'd like to add an artian weapon builder to my gear spreadsheet, but I need to know what +30 sharpness from an infusion actually means so I can properly slot it into calculations
As far as I know 1 point of sharpness= 1 hit
So I usually see meta guides measuring in # of hits X sharpness has
It is more complicated with some weapons like Dual blades that have inherent sharpness protection
the sharpness thresholds are unique to each weapon anyways
But if you're concerned about Artians specifically, they have white by default
you could just test for yourself how many hits of white it has without any sharpness boosts. Or just google it
Okay chat I have a question
In a hypothetical MonHun fan ttrpg
Would you want only humans to be playable? Or would you want lynians as well? What kinda options would yall be interested in
If the design scope permitted, I think playing as a Palico focusing on buffs/debuffs/cc for example would be really fun. Pathfinder 2e sort of has this (not strictly enforced) dichotomy between martial being good at damage and caster classes being versatile and great at support and it works pretty well.
I mean, you can already play palicos in a monhun, so it would make sense for them to be available
Ooo neat
oof, I guess I'll just need to do testing
the idea was to allow someone to select their parts/infusions and upgrades, and the spreadsheet would be able to put the needed values into the EFR calculator
but I wasn't sure what the threshold was to go from white to purple sharpness when the bonuses are all in numbers
we don't have purple sharpness yet
that's typically not until G/Master rank is added to a game
I didn't think so, but I'm also imagining someone going for like every single sharpness boost at the expense of other stats potentially hitting it, and I would prefer the sheet accommodate that rather than throw an error
that's simply not how sharpness works
also, I'm fairly certain that Artians max out at two sharpness rolls, but I don't know that for a fact
fair enough
I saw that the sharpness upgrade is+30 (+20 for IG), and if you could theoretically get all five upgrades that would be +150/+100, and without a formula or data I wasn't sure what that would do
but this is my first monhun game, so thank you for clarifying; I'll just lock that value at white sharpness
according to a reddit post
If you look at weapons, you'll notice that they have a space of empty sharpness on their sharpness bar. If you look closely, you'll see there's a thin strip at the bottom telling you what color the sharpness will be if you use the Handicraft skill.
had a pretty sick moment with this other greatsword user https://cdn.steamusercontent.com/ugc/34447015203570968/A6581DE33201C7FF417AA3179CB1069402594F22/
Y'know what I wish
I wish the Rey Dau longsword had the lightning effect that the Zinogre longsword has
The one where the blade starts to like crackle with lightning once you get it charged up
From what I've seen of MH World sets, it works fine at High Rank, but MR sets are loaded with abilities and slots.
WIlds's weapon/armor split seems like an attempt at dialing things back, and leaving more space for defensive/utility skills instead.
Honestly
Bazelgeuse should be in Wilds
Same theme
Same geometry, same textures as World
No wounding working, no associated weapons
And only as a turf war aggressor
Dude gets so aggro he jumps games
I'm really curious about what invader they do decide to bring in, or if they even go with an old one or make an entirely new monster for the role
Well, I suppose Arkveld is effectively the new invader in Wilds because they're in every region but still
I'd love a new monster
I am hoping we get a new monster in the TUs that isn't a siege monster. I always found it weird how World had Kulve and Safi both be sieges and new monsters
world also had non-siege TU monsters
Datamines at once point had us thinking we had an all new monster coming
Then it turned out it was the data for the barrelbomb minigame
Frostfang is irrelevant
How so?
We knew the data for the small monster, ms, and that they were going in the gathering hub and were associated with the large monster
Similar to how there was data for a mystery large monster in the base game from the datamines that turned out to be the target dummy
That's exactly what I'm talking about, lol
Oh, I thought you meant (spoilers Wilds datamines) ||em166, which is a different non-monster than em165||
Oh no am i out of touch
Oh, wait, no i'm not. ||They're both bowling ball targets - one is the big target, the other is the small mosnter ersion of it||
Oh is the patch out?
New status ailments have been added
weh?
I think that's just Mizu's bubbleblight
The patch notes are really weird
Like the first bullet is that they've added new monsters to hunt and then immediately have two seperate bullets afterward that are the two new monsters
Oh that makes sense
Doesn't look like much is going to affect my weapons (apart from maybe the Opening Shot fix) but the general fixes seem solid
Especially what I'm assuming is having Alma stay further back during a hunt. Really don't need her to be right there while I'm whacking a monster 😛
I feel like I should start giving my loadouts more creative names than just the weapon I'm using
This is mainly on account of the Punishing Draw 3 Dosha GS build that is just begging to be called "we have hammer at home"
You seen the Freezer Speartuna GS?
Much more potential for Punishing Draw shenanigans imo
Oho 👀 I haven't unlocked it yet but I'll have to keep that in mind
speartuna sweep
Is that fextra?
gently pushes MH Wiki forward https://monsterhunterwiki.org/wiki/Freezer_Speartuna_(MHWilds)
i was unaware of this, thank you!
It's so fun, I love when joke things are good
Actually let's just
Fextra eats up the seo so let's front the link in the pins
Ooo, what are the new skills?
No idea, just ifnished hunt, lemme go see
but also, spoilers on Mitsu
||ahaha it just has soulseer mode as part of it's normal moveset now. it just enrages a second time and starts having the flaming eye and blue flame bubble attacks||
Mizu amror: Gives Aquatic/Oilslit mobility, Burst, Constituion, Evade Window, burst and peak perfomance
Set bonus is Bubbly Dance I/II - "Prevents Major bubblelbight and increases evasion while inflcited with minor bubbleblight"
II: Upgrades it to inflict minor bubbleblight when evading many times
New weapon skil tlhough; Slicked BLade - affinity +3-9% when wet, 7-21% when afflicted iwth bubbleblight
Oh cute
Gonna go fight ||Zoh Shia HR|| now so i'll report back on Stuff TM
Bahahaha
the new canteen animation is pretty cute
HR ||Zoh Shia|| Down. You get 6 body carves and 2 tail carves base
Armor set gives Agitator 5, Counterstrike 3, Rec 3, Coal 3, EA 3 and skill "Super Recovery I/II" which lets the Healthbar slowly recover up to max health even if there's no red gauge. II removes the "Slowly" clause
Beta set gives agi 5, EA 3, Rec 2 CS 1 and Coal 1 (Boo) but comes with Level 3 x 4, Level 2x 3, level 1 x 2.
GS has 220 Raw, 5% affinity, 300 dragon, solid amount of white raw and 3/2/1 slots. Gives "Whiteflame Torrent" which is "Chance to deal additonal damage after landing na attack"
You need an Arkveld gem and a GOre magala gem to make the fullset, as well as a gem from the monster.
Cutely you can by mixing it create a set that's either Full Angel or Full Fallen look
Oh that is fun
Lol, they raised the cost of melding, but also raised the value of gold melding tickets
Know your guard timings
Also got an A in bowling already
🫧 🦊
i s2g at this rate i'm just going to end up with a full set of crit element greatswords
already had the rath and fulgur ones on the list, now i'm adding mizu
Any news on the performance update in the pipe? None of my crew can run this shiz yet lol, even on the fancy pcs
absurdly love that
|| how's the armour look? same as usual i assume?||
Yup, just nice fancy quality
|| Damnit, which means the master rank will likely be the same as MHGU's, ughh.||
Interested in this too. Somehow the game ran okay initially but has gotten progressively worse for me as time went on.
Wouldnt Rise/Sunbreak be a better comparison point?
No actually! cause the armour didn't change for G rank there
it was one of my biggest complaints
IT did though?
High rank
Master Rank
Oh wow no fair then they just looks so samey i genuinely blanked on it
They're pretty different, but the silhoutes are very similar
Either way i'm still sad the visuals of the soulseer armour are long gone then
Lol, killed a temepred Arkveld with a boulder drop
Nice
try deleting your shader cache and having the game regenerate it, helps sometimes
and @zealous laurel I have a very powerful rig, and it feels like i've gotten less stuters etc
Take with grain of salt, this is a very subjective thing and i havent played for over a week before this
Just watched 3 people facetank the ultimate of the new HR boss monster
Instant quest fail
Nice! I've gotten A once, but struggled to get the bomb to go where I want most of the time
ngl ||Zoh Shia quest|| took me a hot minute
EVIL and FUCKED UP BIRD
...girl ain't them shits on your face
i have two pairs of glasses
Mizutsanse
Mizu bubble bullet hell?
megalovania intro starts playing
but yeah, fun fight, even if i got slapped around a whole bunch
that fox-dragon can schmoove
Vaguely miss its drifting from Rise, felt slow this time
Even if it was a massive pain in the neck to keep up with it
just wait for the MR version, i'm sure that'll keep us on our toes
yeah, title update 1 just dropped
the next won't be until summer
...oh lord that Zoh Shia CB hits DIFFERENT I tell you what
Sword mode's DPS is a lot better now that I randomly just hit things twice in one strike
JUST DID THE MIZU FIGHT AND IM BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS, I LOVE MY BOI
Also, related note, has mizu ever lost a fight in their cinematics? cause i feel like they might be one of the few monsters with a perfect record
do you mean turf wars or like cutscenes, cuz mizu ||loses to uth-duna in this game kind of, im glad they had a good fight but they let the apex keep his dignity in his house||
Cutscenes, hence why i said cinematics
Is there Tempered Mizu in the game already? The story one is kinda wimpy tbh (although I think I also got a smaller than average one)
my brother says he fought a tempered gcrown mizu today so i think so
nice
it's too bad its armor is only rarity 6
the beta legs seem to be pretty decent though
yeah and some of its weapons dont really get their skill boost when not wearing the set, it is interesting tho
||I've heard rain can proc the "or wet" part of the weapons.||
except the "wet" buff is much smaller than the bubbleblight buff
Ahh
This matters a lot less with the new armor caps - the difference between a 6 and an 8 is about.. 4 or 6 armor
Not in sigfnact across a whole set, but also not huge
