#Monster Hunter
1 messages · Page 22 of 1
How's the textures and model detail?
no, it just has weapon paths that use some monster gubbins as reqs
some of those paths have monster-unique forks
but not all, and even those are often not custom models
because MHWo only had like...one or two dudes working on weapon graphics
oh wow
wait we getting gore magala in wild too ?
that was the end of the most recently trailer, si
Gore does also mean Shagaru
Shaggy Maggy
So was that one in 4 just really wilding to cause the Frenzy
Always felt weird that we fought Shagaru outside of an arena in rise
Yeah, like, he feels 'Doomsday' type of tier, he's got Final Boss energies
Though a random mountain in Wilds exploding into Shara Ishvalda would be cool, so, /shrug
He's a big pushover in actuality but
The aesthetic though
tru
i mean it probably does, although we've had gravios without its baby form and vice versa
IINM Basarios doesn't grow up into Gravios, whereas Gore Magala matures into Shagaru, and a desolate wasteland away from the rest of the world seems a perfect place to find a deathbringer without great collateral
...iinm?
Especially with that theme
If I'm not mistaken
I prefer
If I Recall Correctly
That said, no bisarios is absolutely gravios's juvenile form
Monster hunter stories tells lies don't forget.
you cant hatch a black Diablos from an egg.
lmao
yeah
stories takes some liberties with variants of all sorts
black diablos are just females in heat
...you know what would be really cool? Some kind of hermit crab wyvern. Either it lives inside the discarded shells of a specific other wyvern from its own habitat, or else it does hermit crab stuff hiding inside a skull instead. Possibly in some kind of "bonepile" area where it gets to change out skulls (and potentially modify its moveset accordingly)?
while i agree that would be cool there's already a hermit crab crab and a hermit crab octopus :p
I have never fought it but I think Nakarkos is essentially what you are describing already, although I'm not totally sure if it's moveset changes over the fight based on what bones it has
and it's not a wyvern
i do like radobaan
very satisfying to have a monster that easily replaces its armour because that means they can make it easily smashable
Radobaan also the perfect shape for Piercing Shot
W-wait like
Like a hermit crab
Isn't that the Hermitaur
Jacq mentioned above now that I read
ack
And the implication we're deep along the rotation of the Wheel of Heaven
I was unaware of some of those.
They don't show up so often tbh, we got Nakky the once
I wonder if Nerscylla means we'll get more bugs oogh
Come back to me my angel
We are so set up for a Jhen fight
"If I'm Not Mistaken"
Ceanataur also exists, less hermit-y though
I wonder if we're also getting the spider from rise
It seems a pretty obvious include with nerscylla and flower spider
That said they might d3cide that they don't need all three
Also nu udra makes me think they have a solution to lagi's weird skeleton issues
they absolutely do, and we've basically known that since day 1
Balahara was already proof of that
as balahara has all of the leviathan stuff
while diving through the "liquid" sand environment
So it's only a matter of seeing if they brought Lagi back for this one or if we'll have to wait for MR or another entry
If I may be a tad selfish, I do hope they bring back Nakarkos now, if only because it could be made so much cooler with the new cepholapod stuff
nakarkos would be goated
i have no idea if it's coming, but i'd love to see it or gogmazios
||also, lagiacrus is confirmed in the datamine, and apparently has its own personal nest in the scarlet forest||
datamine spoilers
||didn't get far enough to see most of the other shit, other than what's already been revealed, but that has fucking ascended me||
Would love to see Gogmazios back.
Honestly, he would fit so well in the oil pits
yep
although...i've heard ||that there are zero elder dragons in MHWi basegame||
which is fucking insane
i didn't see anything about this one, though, just chatter from discord servers
That was the way for World kinda though. I'm sure it's just a few content updates after some months
no it wasn't
||world 1.0 had an entire suite of returning and new elder dragons. it's literally like, the entire plot of the main story||
||zorah magdaros, nergigante, and then teostra/kushala/vaal hazak as part of the leadup to xenojiva||
||and i believe kirin was also 1.0||
||xeno is also classed as an elder||
Vaal my beloved
||so if this is true, it means no shagaru magala in 1.0 and an extreme divergence from standard MH form||
Huh, I only remember ||Zorah and a Nergi fight in 1.0. But maybe my memory is bad. I though they added in the other elders and Xeno after a bit.||
||i...don't think so? i played super close to release and i'm pretty sure they were all in then||
before today I would have said with total confidence that there were four at launch, reasonable confidence that there were five
you're making me second-guess myself but I was super confident about this
Base World had, in order: ||Kirin, Zorah, Nergigante, Kushala, Teostra, Vaal, Xeno||
I know this cause I remember having a critique of the story that ||it'd make more sense for us to have to take out the Kush/Teo/Vaal trio before taking on Nergi because then you're getting to the source of the unrest and after dealing with the dragons you get access to weapons to deal with them easier via the Nergi gear Elder Seal, but we do Nergi first which feels like cheating.||
I mean, ||I guess not introducing elders until master/G rank kinda puts them back on a pedestal, makes them special||
Also, the benchmark is weirdge to me
Average 54FPS
GOOD
wait is. is that not good?
no
Generally speaking PC assumes 60 FPS as baseline
I actually really like that that's basically what they seem to be going with, and then making the apexes weirder and bigger to compensate
Though I don't really understand why Gore isn't considered an elder
I know it's official classification is just ???
But it's literally got the standard hexapod Elder bodyplan
It's a matter of scale
Gore is a bigger threat than most other monsters due to the virus, but it's not like a city or world threatening force until it matures into the full Shagaru state where the virus becomes more potent and can affect a much larger area
Right but it's not like, say, Namielle is a particularly huge world beater either
If anything, Gore gets talked about as more of an existential threat than some elders, even weirder ones like Valstrax
Yeah, but Namielle also has double element and inexplicable liquid manipulation powers which can't fully be explained
Gore's definitely a borderline case though
At least
It just strikes me as slightly silly that Shagaru is classed as an elder and Gore isn't, especially because it lets people say that there's no elders in Wilds as far as we know
Insert joke about taxanomic classifications here, I guess
Taxonomic classification in MH is goofy as all get out, it's true
Though I do love that apparently Nakarkos and Yama are actually either quadrupeds or hexapods like other elders
And not actually cephalopods
Elder dragon is specifically a wastebin taxa
That wording almost makes it sound like an insult
Honestly, from biologists I've talked to, wastebin really is
Though mostly directed at people who are already long dead
its funny to have a wastebin taxonomic classification which includes the adult form of an animal but not its juvenile morph
I will take it
Might lower some of the settings as well
Custom here is medium with couple of things I just dislike being off
It kiinda is, but more accurately it's a failure of taxonomic process. "We can't figure it out to we scrunch the paper an throw it in the bin"
"look, this horse can call lightning down. from the fucking sky. what do you want from me"
"Distinction from whatever that is" >Points at amatsu<
Terrible is what it is
But yeah the Elder Dragons are kinda wacky and don't really fit in with anything else
They're also generally more powerful than the average monster so it does kiiiinda work as a catch all thing, if not taxonomically
I don't blame them for giving up trying to categorize the Elders tho tbh
Looking at some examples of Elders, if someone showed me these fucking things and told me to taxonomically order them with the rest of the monsters, i'd also make up a new taxonomical order for freak outliers and just put them all in it
Ironically, all of those at least have six limbs in common
Which Kirin doesn't with any of them, unless it has some vestigial little wing stubs hidden away under its skin
Also man Gog is so fucking cool
I really hope he comes back as a TU in Wild like Aletreon
I do like that they have descriptive titles at least
Abyssal Dragon for Namielle, Earth Singing Dragon for Shara Ishvalda, Halberd Dragon for Gogmazios and Mist Dragon for Chameleos
Something about dragons that shoot lasers, it's why I have a real soft spot for Safi
Yeah the nicknames are something i've always liked in MH, they're almost like taxonomic names just translated
I hate Safi's design but i love the fight
Mhm
It's good shit
My fav is Dalamadur, which is the Serpent King Dragon
Which rules
I feel like Safi really suffers from being the follow up to Xeno, which is a shame. I actually think it's my favourite traditional dragon of the bunch, I prefer it over Fatalis, but if it had been more alien or if it had been totally unrelated to Xeno it would have been much better
Like if it looked like a traditional dragon until you got up close and realized it had weird bug eyes and instead of scales it was an exoskeleton
Like an alien mimicking a dragon
As it is, I think laser Smaug is pretty cool
Dalamadur is choice, I love the giant snake too. I've never fought it though and I have to wonder how to keep a fight against a monster that big interesting
It really does
Xeno'jiiva islike, my favourite design in World
It'sso freaky and alien
And Safi just does not retain enough of that vibe
I know it technically has details indicating it's bug-like much like Xeno, but they are almost impossible to distinguish when you're actually fighting it
If they went in moreon the fake dragon bug aesthetic it would have worked for me
Cause bugs do mimic shit irl and it's super cool
But it's really just not conveyed through the design effectively at all imo
Yeah exactly
In agame full of weird freak dragons, making a weirder freakier dragon look like anormal onejust doesn't end up working that well imo
It doeshave bug details but just, not enough
There's no point where you look at it for long enough and start picking out weird incongruous details until you start seeing it for what it really is
If that makes sense
Yeah, it's my favourite Just A Dragon, even if it fails in some respects as a follow up to Xeno
Like I suspect the idea was to subvert the expectation of the really alien larval form by having it become such a conventional dragon
And I kind of like that
I feel like theres almost this implication that all the elder dragons have some weirder origin despite their appearances, even normal ones like Teostra and Kushala
Mmm... maybe
In Safi's case a lot of it's alienenss is in how it actually acts
(As a terraformer extradinonare, in a very bad way)
Similar to Altateron, who notably, hates the shit out of Safi.
Fair nuff
Yeah, that is a factor too
For me, Xeno is just such a fucking striking design, with it's wild otherness
I just end up feeling disappointed that Safi is not more like that
It's the most generic looking dragon in the whole series, even including Fatalis, imo
And it does have bug elements in its design but what i wanted from it as a follow up from Xeno is more uncanny valley shit
Ultimately very much a taste and expectations thing
Big glowing gummy bug dragon to DnD red dragon is a very striking evolution either way
Also to explain this, while Fatalis is the og generic dragon, it actually takes some interesting historical design queues, with its elongated body it reminds me alot of like, medieval european depictions of dragons with the longer more wyrm like necks and shit
Don't mean to hate on Safi too much either, Xeno is just such a peak design for me
I feel like it'd have been more a subversion if the game had not already been laden with conventional-ish dragons
Someone could tell me this is their OC the King of All Rathalos and I'd believe them
Among MetalDragon, Spikedragon, CatDragon, Safi ended up feeling sort of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D41SBcq1wYk
Mmm
I honestly don't mind Safi as "The Red Dragon", my beef is mostly just with it being related to Xeno
Yeah exactly, sort of begs the question why it does all'at
Why would an impossibly powerful beastie need to mimic anything, it can eat their bioenergy
This. This is my exact gripe with safi.
If it was its own thing I’d be fine with it but no. It’s the adult form of the prettiest monster in existence
hell, they could’ve made safi look closer to xeno! Afaik the only real similarity is that you can see the eye spots xeno has when you break safi’s head. Why not make it have a red-blue gradient, or make it glow, or keep the flowing bits of its body. Why is it just smaug.
Because sometimes the freaks wanna grow into the pretty red dragon
Fair
I’m just unsatisfied. At least we have Vaal Hazak to fulfill my “Weird Elder Dragon” needs
Shara is also cool
I like the Buddhism inspiration it took and also the fact that it knows what you are

-# Sorry anytime i see "I know what you are" I think of that judgemental dog meme
Shara is such a cool elder design and theming wise but god the fight is kind of butts
It's so frustrating
In what way?
Simply just stay out of the sand?
It's just kind of tedious, it doesn't have very many different attacks and unfortunately it's very much a smack it in the legs while it does a big charged thing type fight
It's not very dynamic
The arena is also a little dull, which feels especially sinful given how cool the monster is
Yeah
The music, at least, is incredible
Agreed
Tumblr is a place to express yourself, discover yourself, and bond over the stuff you love. It's where your interests connect you with your people.
D'aww
folks i am mcfucked
my pc maxes out MHWi's framerate at around 30 at the lowest settings. the average is in the high 20s. what do i do
Oh that's fun the cursor has little sparkles
They're scout flies
I think it starts 7pm PST tonight, if I'm remembering correctly
So in about three and a half hours
we back in the beta!!!!
just wanna confirm it runs the same as the first?
time to see if my jank ass laptop will run this one this time around
Supposed to be the same build so yes
welp, that's a nah, lol. y'all enjoy the beta for me
What all does one keep from the Beta, actually?
I assume you can at least save character sliders so that you don't waste your time customizing a character?
Yeah you get to keep the character, just not any progress, that's good
You also get an item box in game
(just various craftable potions, meat etc)
and you get a little pedant to go on your weapon/sekreit
I think it mentioned you needing to open customise character and saving it again in the second test
Right
Terrifying
omg, porygon
Wilds' flagship comes with a new and very unique theme. Almost gives some Star Wars vibes.
(We had to fix something and reup this video, sorry for the double notification guys!)
Right now we're working on some beautiful Arkveld runs for you guys but we need more time to practice.

I uh
I asked my friend to play with my other friends yesterday in the beta
I forgot he only has 4 gigs of vram
He did get to hunt!
But here is the Creepypasta version he played
WARNING SPOOKY FRFR
I dunno, i'm not seeing any issues
LMAO
...hrmm
Query
Should I remake my World and Rise character in Wilds
Or should I make a new one and headcanon it as his grandkid taking up his legacy
Legacy! Legacy!
I know that either way his Palico's sticking around
...honestly it's more fun of a story to have him retire in Kamura after slaying literal goddamned legends for god knows how many years and having his grandkid or an apprentice or something take up his mantle
Given that's my headcanon for him being in Kamura, tried to retire to a nice relaxing life back in his hometown and got caught up in the mess of Rise & Sunbreak's story
They tried to get him to come out of retirement, but there is nothing they could do to do so.
tried out the benchmark
seems like my PC won't be able to run the game properly
unfortunate, but kinda what I expected
"Listen, I've killed Xeno, I've killed Safi, killed Behemoth, killed Gaismagorm, shit I even killed FATALIS, I'm sticking to sitting around complaining about my back for a while."
Kliff Undersn grindset
still hardcore that, canonically, what happens if Kliff manages to successfully stretch his back out and stand upright is "you die immediately, you're fucking dead, it's over"
is there a gs that looks like kliff’s
he's him, he's been him, he will continue to be him
My friend made the mistake of asking me how I felt about hunting horn
what a blessing of them!
I think Arkveld is really cool!
woag..
And here I am swinging it around one handed like it weighs nothing
hunter stronk
...i'm really having to work to wrap my head around the new switch axe
having defense options beyond "get the fuck out of the way" is weird
Just the new offset attack?
axe offset and sword counter
I haven't messed with sword counter
the sword counter is really nice and lets you stick to the monster for a sword combo where you wouldn't have before
I've been labbing out horn pretty much exclusively lmao
really easy to just pop up right quick. you take chip damage but it's worth it
the offset attack is harder. it's got a fairly long windup before it actually connects so timing is tricky
also you've got to be careful with the swaxe's higher-commitment attacks (spiral burst slash, sword double slash) or you might find yourself stuck in an animation when you need to be prepping a counter hit
i think i'll get it, though. it'll just take some practice
i do kind of hope that one of the things they tune up is the sidehop distance, because right now it just feels comically useless to me. lil tiny one-foot bunny hop
dunno, maybe i've just been running Evade Extender in World for so long that my sense of it is off
How's CB in wilds?
Played the last beta, you just didn't get to use SAEDs as often, I was told axe mode is best now?
It's quite good
Axe mode was always the best mode but sword mode's decently viable now
Seems like its status buildup was buffed, I managed to stun chatty like twice in a tight timeframe
I mean, IMO, axe mode was kinda bad in World before Iceborne
your loop was going sword > charge > axe buff > sword > charge > instant SAED
and then repeatedly dumping your charge into instant SAEDs until you had to recharge your axe buff
lol i don't think i've perfectly optimized it yet but i'm getting close
Oh! you can use focus mode to turn your horn in a particular direction very precisely which is massive for positioning the end of your horn near the monster's head for the echo wave recitals
they would be friends
i see that we are going in on scarred hunters this gen and i am here for it
...well dosha's already proving itself to be an annoyance
Though maybe it's just me not being used to these newfangled controls
The controls definitely feel different
There's some kind of difference to the button timings that I haven't quite figured out yet
Any m&k player here that played the beta?
M&K?
Mouse and Keyboard
its very simlar to world
...y'know what I vaguely wanna see for a crossover event
Wilds x Dragon's Dogma
Fight like a griffon or a drake or something and craft some of the Dragonforged gear from it
alright
what settings do I gotta use to keep the beta from exploding randomly on my RTX 3080ti
I'm running fine at high on a 4070
ram?
I don't have a RAM resource monitor
whats your total ram
but also last time it blew up it threw me some "unknown exception" garbage and then blackscreened, freezing all the other apps that were being rendered at the same time
16GB
16 could possibly be not eonugh
Ive noticed a lot of games even if they say 16 usally are better and more comfortbale at more
remenant 2 lists 16, but 90% of my stutters went away after upgrading
I know that, im just saying i think ram is something i feel is underlisted on a lot of games these days
welp
I was due for an upgrade anyways
fuck, I don't even know what motherboard I have plugged in here idk what RAM is gonna be compatible
do you have extra slots?
pro'lly it's a full tower and I'm on 2x8GB lol
you could buy see if its possible to find the same ram and just buy 2 more sticks
i can't say for sure it would stop the crashes, but i have notice in general devs are listing 16gb when 16 gb is not enough for a stable expeince
I am factually due for it
plus my browser probably is holding onto an ass amount of RAM anyways
which is probably why MonHun keeps crashing on me
my theory is that this games are tested on really clean rigs or people are being lazy and just slapping 16 on it
Y'all reckon you could give some advice in replicating this fella in Wilds? I tried earlier but I didn't have much luck.
It's probably your CPU that's the issue, not your GPU.
my CPU didn't hit max allocation lol
Wilds is incredibly CPU intesive
Which is pretty decent. Hoenstly it's probably oyur ram then if you've only 16 gigs - remeber that 16 gigs has to do everythign on your system.
yeah
I either gotta close everything else while I play monster hunter or I gotta upgrade my rig
Is the new beta running better than the old one?
it shouldn't iirc
Yeah, the only thing differnet is a monster or two added
probably
Like that is straight up revolutionary "this changes the face of Literally Fucking Everything" level tech
MH2 or 3 that the actual bastions of civilization are much more advanced than backwater villages
Yeah but they're not "near instantaneous long-distance communications devices"
i would be somewhat surprised if it was intercontinental, at least
Like in terms of technological advancements I feel working radio is one of the biggest and most impactful leaps forward anyone can make
Especially since I don't think we've seen radio systems in these games before
might have a little bird monster inside
True, could be another record player like the one in Iceborne
Still a massive leap forward in technology though
...fucking HELL I want to see more of Monter Hunter's technological advancement
PLEASE GOD CAPCOM GIVE US ANYTHING
I WANT TO SEE CIVILIZATION'S PROGRESS
IU dont think you can map monster hunter tech to ours 1 to 1 at all
For one, it's post apoclyptic
for two, it's a low magic setting based on shamanstic concepts, where you can ltierally draw poower from the things you kill
and they do crazy things with the mosnter bits from what we've seen - stuff like bowguns, the switch axe, etc
The sandships too
I want Equal Dragon Weapon still
EDW is deeply questioanble on it's canonicty, sadly
for now
Yeah, i just dont wnat folks hyping themselves up for stuff that;'s unlikely
you never know
the same book from it had goblins, magic weapons, and stuff very close to a lot more trad fnatasty things
this is true. i am not denying this. but the people desire the drakenstein
it's oke, just like a massive heavy gun that is HBG
it has a symbolic string attached somewhere
it's [instert thing here] radio
i propose that it's the equivalent to a can string phone and uses very thin strands of nerscylla silk
(Note. This is a joke. I'm just adding logic to the bit.)
Real
i be hunting monsters
Danny I didn't know
i have this 35 min, 2 participants max zinogre + apex arzuros quest that gives me like 4 anomaly levels every time
ooh this is ok
i have a kushala blessing 3 charm on bow permanently until i get to risen kushala

Risen Kushala is, surprisingly, pretty fun
Which isn't something I was ever expecting from kushala at any point in time
...Risen Shagaru, though, is just
PEAK shit
i remembered you can dye layered armor and i'm trying to mess around with it 😔
the mr pukei's green goes better with the rajang bow so i might need a new bow
but i heavily dislike bows that fold in the middle, and most of the high-tier bows are like that
even some of the lower ones
I'd recommend the Azure Star bow but unfortunately you can't do the quest to get it anymore
Which is lame

There's always the Bishaten Bow, it at least folds in a cool looking way
Yeah it's just part of their design aesthetic
Maybe try the Chameleos bow?
It doesn't fold but it's styled to look like a wand and magical tome so idk if you'd vibe with it
Yeah it's really neat looking
Okay, I don't know if it's just the benchmark, but I'm really struggling to get Wilds to run at anything acceptable of a framerate even on like, low-medium.
What's your computers stats? and the bnechmark is the best represetion we've got ucrrently of how it'll perofrm
so if it's not running good now, well, you're probably shit outta luck, sorry
Got a 3070, and a Ryzen 9 5900X
Ram?
32 Gigs
Looks like you're CPU chocked, doing some googling
Really?
Huh.
That's
Technically good since that's the cheaper part but a Ryzen 9 being not good enough?
Architure and what it's built for matters
I have a 7800X3D for comparsion
and can run the game on everything maxed out with 140fps.
IO also have a better graphcis card (4080) and more ram than you (64 gigs vs your 32)
Well no bloody wonder if you have GPU like that
The cpu also matters a ton though, taht's my actual point.
Like i'm not trying to boast, and paoolgioies if it came across that way
it's just the CPU is a big deal for this
and the 7800X3D is a dedicated gaming CPU
Got it
How can I tell if a CPU is gaming versus non-gaming?
I just kinda bought the biggest number I could afford at the time
Uhhh... do you research, lol.
https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1ik3qb1/is_the_9800x3d_worth_100_euros_more_than_the/ as an exampel
and this subreddit would be useful in general
tbh, i'm really not a techhead for this stuff
i just google these things, ask on forums etc
and a lot of what i know here is because i've looekd into why wilds is having bad perofrmance (generally CPU, it's very intensive on the cpu acocridng to folks)
and because i built a new computer about march/april last year
(Which is the mosnter i quoted the stats on),and learned a chunk there
I'd suggest going through the setting s in the benchmark and seeing what youc an turn off or turn down, and what it notes is intensive on perofmance
Huh, is that why DLSS did nothing for my frames
Huh
Everyone else claims it's a GPU-bound game, I guess that's wrong
It can be both!
it doenst have to be a binary yes/no thing
Got it
Having the best cpu isnt gonna do shit if you're trucking arounnd on 1660 super
which is uh, what i had in my old machine
Looking around, it looks like 7800X3D prices have gotten silly
so if you have the moolah, going for hte 9800X3D makes more sense, but they arent cheap
https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/ this subredidt might be useful if you do your resarch
New egg has the 9800X3D for 729 USD (oof.)
The 7800 X3d is 479, which is still Oof
but more reasonble
and tbh, for your graphics card case, it woiuldnt super make sense to go for the 9800
(it only really makes sense if you can afford it and a new gpu at the same time)
Yeha, i dindt figure 😛
But basically while the 9800 is REALLY GOOD, it's also REALLY EXPENSIVE
and if you're not comboing it with a new gpu to realyl tkae advantage...
Because "Can it run Crysis" is so last decade
Problem is the 4x series of GPUs are still pretty pricey, if anythign ,they've ogne up form this time last yerar
and it's not like the 5x series is cheap >.>
Honestly if I upgrade my GPU I think I'll switch to AMD at this rate
Anyway, i hope that's gnerally useful
as always, do your research, and places like redidt can be useful to ask questions if you dont have good forums to aks on
It told me I'm too broke for this shit apparently
Also I'm pretty sure I have an AM4 socket so I can't even use the 7800X3D
Right, what I did do is look over all the benchmarks correlated on the monster hunter subreddit, found one that matches my specs and ran it on the same settings and-
It's
not great
It's also a worse result than what the spredsheed showed which tells me I might have other issues on my PC which
Concerns me
Well no, it says right ther,e it says good.
Poo, timed out on Arkveld
Do it again but properly this time!
I will, i will
Tomorrow tho
Well
in the morning
I kinda dont want to overdo the demo/beta rn though
Was there a game in which you could hunt an EDW and what does it even stand for
Also those are the things made out of elder dragon meat right
Never.
The EDW - Equal Dragon Weapon - is a piece of concept art and lore from one of the earliest monster hunter concept art books. highyl dubious canonicty, but it's suppsoedly somethign the Anicent Civ made to fight against dragons by... well, franeksinting a bunch of elder dragon corpses together
again, very dubious cannocity
It only exists as concept art, and even this translation is a fan translation.
so!
Thx
Note the same book that has it has stuff like goblin enemies, magic users, etc
Aaaah
It's popular as a concept becuase the Ancient Civ is something that's mentioned a lot and implied a lot in the games
and the games are still pretty explcitly post apocylptic
(Ruins are everywhere, the tech level is erratic, blending any where from near industrial age stuff to stone age stuff)
And fatalis
and frankly, "We mashed a bunch of dragon corpses togther to fight other draogns" is evoactive
Even with fatalis, mosto f hte in game lore is "Ate a kingdom in one night" "Armor is impleid to turn you into a new one". thoguh i thin kthere is some offical cannonization of stuff thanks to the Iceborne lore book
...gods i want to get my hands on those ;.;
are they difficult to get
Yes
There's not even a translation of the iceborne one
" For example, if a bunch of Pukei-Pukei migrated instead, it would be cute, but would lack mystery."
Isnt it worse like it starts to instead grow AROUND you?
Akira style
yup
Gypceros slain, first try, I am amazing
i'm looking forward to seeing my wife get jumpscared by a gypceros for the first time
I still somehow have the best MH Wilds performance in my friend group despite being the only one running it on a (14") laptop
Damn, Arkveld got hands
Is anyone else getting tripped up my old muscle memory? I keep trying to do the "Sprit 1+Poke+Spirit 2+Poke" but since that's tied to the secondary attack button now all I do is get stuff in the overhead slash animation
what button is poke on now?
Secondary attack
B on XBox, Circle on PS
It's the poke on LS by default but in previous games hitting primary attack (Y or Triangle) was used to do a poke and up slash for extending the Spirit Combo
oh interesting
in Rise secondary attack works for weaving pokes, I've never tried primary though
I always did Primary, just the first button I think of
interesting that the option is removed
This is getting out of hand, now there are TWO of them!
...how do you use that new shield poke charge move? I've tried using it before and it's massively more convenient for shield charging, but I cannot for the life of me land a hit with it.
I haven't messed with CB but I think it has to do with holding the secondary attack button during/after loading phials?
Asked a friend
And my guess was right, HA!
Oh, no, I know that part, I can execute it fine
It's actually LANDING the hit that's weirdly hard
Unless it's not actually an attack but that feels wrong
Well Arkveld sure is a fight
I mean
I'm not sure what constitutes 'good', maybe I have high standards but 'keeps a 60FPS during all gameplay segments' is what I'd consider 'good' which this isn't.
Also, I learned
This runs on the same engine as Dragon's Dogma 2
Which explains a lot
New move
Charge your phials and hold circle and it'll charge up your sheild
It's a LOT better than the old method
Also the Wilds Beta has a single source of sleep herbs in area 10
Yeah, it definitely isn't 'Good'. Hopefully there's more improvements after release, but jesus christ this game runs like ass
...so far the open world isn't really feeling like an open world, just like
Larger versions of World's areas
Which is perfectly fine, honestly, it's just mildly a bit disappointing
Well, if it's going to have as much longevity as World then
I'm just gonna get it once I do some PC upgrades
Sorry, that was me doing a bit.
Also yes same engine as DD, but also same engine as world iirc. They've just pushed the graphics like crazy
In the full game the zones are meant to be connected. So you can go to the scarlet forest directly, etc. Beta not representative of full product
i genunilly think we need to stop pushing graphics up more for a few years and focus purely on optimzation
i think we are headed to a point people just can no longer afford to play new games because of how poorly they run or require way too new of hardware that is overpriced
Aaaaaaaaaaaah, that makes more sense
REAL AND TRUE
Executives are chasing after smaller and smaller improvements to how things look because they know shit for fuck and think "looks gooder=more money in my pocket" and in the meantime we have games that are 200GB and can barely run on the most up to date shit
And looks gooder has been hitting a wall for a decade now
Yeah, like
At some point you're not going to get anything more out of adding more and more and more polygons
know what i want insted of gooder lets get cooler
give us places with tons of real npcs
instead of most games's genric generated npcs that just spawn in or having like 4
ohhhhhh so you don’t have to cancel out of a discharge now?
that rules actually
I haven’t played the second beta yet because PSN was down last night when I tried to but I am excited to try and get back into CB for wilds
4u was CB/swaxe, world was swaxe, rise was swaxe/glaive
it’s time to return to my roots
Yeah not having to cancel an aed is a nice change
Especially since you can shield poke after it
Whereas the discharge cancel leaves you in a neutral guard point
i ran sns/mbg in tri, sns/gl in 4, sns/gl/eventually swaxe & cb in world, and gl/cb/sns in rise
probably going to be pure gl & cb in wilds
this shit fucks
I started with world, running lance then charge blade, dabbling in sword
Then gunlance/cb in risebreak
Well that's a worthwhile capture.
i have to say i am not used to the new CB
the moveset is familiar, but the UI for the thing is too small and it feels weird to need to do an AED in order to SAED
I think it's intended to prevent saed spam
this is gonna mess up my wakeup attacks so bad
You CAN enter an SAED by planting a small bomb, perfect guarding it, and going from there
gating the SAED is probably a good call but I do miss being able to megabonk with minimal windup
I do really appreciate the buzzsaw addition as of worlds as a way to justify the existence of axe mode at least and not have it just be a vehicle for the discharge
that said while I understand it I’m sad they got rid of the mega detonation for IG from rise
it’s the most i’ve felt like playing a wizard in monster hunter
Y'all got any advice for recreating my World character in Wilds? I can't quite get it right no matter how hard I try.
someone found the babayaga in a lobby
I had to do a double take here becuase i was like "Okay, i am not seeing the russian witch granny" until i clicked oh john wick knockoff
mwahahahaha
Also on the subject of characters, add my lass to the scarface brigade
Okay, game, you need to be more fucking clear on when i'm getitng iframes from my dodge, and when you've decided nope you're just getitntgp unxched
HELL yeah, we love our scarred-as-fuck characters in this household
I don't have any pictures of her not in Balahara or Doshaguma armor on hand, but my character also has a bunch of facial scars
oh man
finally got the beta running stably on my PC
(I needed new GPU drivers desperately)
this game goes nuts
That's actually a great point, if you're having beta or benchmark issues, make sure your drivers are up to date
Oh also
Someone mentioned that they’re being cute with revealing Rathian but not Rathalos
But what if Capcom decides to goof on us and introduce a regional variant that’s technically not Rathalos
seems to what
tbh most dragon element stuff has an aspect of that
as dragon is basically raw corrosive bioenergy that they either make themselves or get from eating something else
yeah, it rules
you see it a lot with dragon element enemies
deviljho just
eats so fucking much and processes so much bioenergy that it's constantly leaking (as its breath attack) Raw Primordial Goop
alatreon is also kind of constantly going bugfuck nuts with unrefined bioenergy
which is why it shifts constantly
(or, part of why)
nakarkos and ebony odogaron are similar to jho
glutting themselves constantly with high-energy wyvern meat
alatreon is the only one that can refine it even slightly and it's still going batshit insane with it
yeah, and it's also unlike the major unifying group
it's a big scary dragon
and just
produces that fucking much bioenergy by itself
it's a living nuclear reactor undergoing an eternal meltdown and may whatever afterlife you go to have mercy on you if you get caught in the meltdown detonation because escaton judgement does not fuck around
between elder dragons and the dragon element, "dragon" in the MonHun world is just a byword for
wyverns and beasts? yeah thats all fine, we can trace their links on the evolutionary tree and the food web. anything that deals with dragons/dragon element is an abnormality that we can only sometimes determine.
which leads to a question
do xeno and safi shoot purified dragon element?
because if so then i am terrified
Dragon Element is stored in the balls.
okay more seriously I kind of suspect Dragon Element is something akin to mercury in fish for monsters, only super long-lived apex predator Elder Dragons and specifically Deviljho seem to possess a significant amount of it and to me that indicates that it's the kind of thing you get a little bit out of any given prey animal, but it doesn't really dissipate or metabolize properly for most animals so it just hangs around
and eventually you get a old mean ass pickle that crackles with Dragon Element when it gets pissed off
Alatreon is, like, the theoretical limit of this where it's a monster that's biologically adapted to metabolizing and releasing the Dragon Element as a natural weapon
Fatalis is just the oldest meanest motherfucker-est species of dragon to ever do it
the mercury theory is interesting
reminds me of the like, liquid mercury dragon in Frontier
Harudomerugu
extremely cool design but the fight's really hard
Huh, I didn't know about that dragon
It's from Frontier so yeah
Frontier had a lot of cool stuff tbh
And then it had water Gravios which is another cool design but one of the most ass fights ever
i mean just glancing at the dragon element weapon trees from World:
- Nergigante (eats other elder dragons)
- Vaal Hazak (feeds on dragon corpses in the Rotten Vale)
- Xeno'jiva (absorbs raw bioenergy from its environment)
- Deviljho (hyperaggressive carnivore)
- Shara Ishavlada (okay i don't actually know much about this one)
- Alatreon (as noted upthread), Safi'jiva (same as Xeno), Fatalis
so there does seem to be an association with monsters that feed on dragons and/or fuck with bioenergy directly expressing the dragon element
TBF I don't know if anyone knows enough about Shara to explain anything of what they get up to
But given its ability to see through the screen at the player, there's probably something old in there
Going with this theory: Maybe dragons, being the top of the food chain, express dragon element as a result of bioaccumulation of a pervasive contaminant.
Oh wait, no someone already said that but not the word itself

you also get dragon element from the dragonbone weapons, which i love in context of this theory bc it implies that yeah, dragon element buildup gets deposited in their bone structure
And then there's the dragon Odagaron which eats a bunch of rotting corpses in the Veil much like Vaal
Ebony Odogaron is a Dragon-element monster that shoots black dragon smoke yeah
But then how do we explain Stygian Zinogre?
It uses Dracophage Bugs instead of Fulgurbugs. -Phage implies to me that they behave like mosquitos or a carrion consumer, and zinogre might become a reservoir for their collective dragonblight absorption.
Then there's Arkveld which has Dragonblight in the beta fight, and since it seems to drain the lifeforce out of other monsters we yet agiain come around to the energy moving up the food chain
I wonder if Shara Ishvalda's thing is that they are able to separate all elemental impurities in their metabolism. Would tie into their theme of enlightenment.
I honestly find frontiers designs pretty bad overall. They lack the care that the mainline entries have, and are often very overworked visually
Yeah, I think most folks land on that conclusion. The general consensus I've seen is 'Not great save a few absolute bangers.'
stygian zinogre's biomechanics are open knowledge from its descriptions
dracophage bugs eat bioenergy/dragon-element energy, but they explicitly get it from dragonfell berries
now, how the fuck dragonfell berries get their gubbins is more mysterious, but
I'll blame nanomachines.
it's probably soaking nutrients from dead dragons
grows on soil that dragons died on and decomposed in

Pog. Could maybe make some settings higher
POV: you're getting desire sensored
just gamble harder
Welp, looks like I'm playing Rise when it comes out. Brother bullied me into trying the beta and I had fun
speaking of rise, i rolled this
Niiice
i'm not even sure if kushala blessing is helping that much when i'm bloodblighted during anomaly, since bloodblight negates any health regen iirc? so maybe I could swap this for my Kushala Blessing 3 charm, stun res is really nice to have
Resuscitate 2 would give me +10 attack under bloodblight/frenzy which is always nice
for my other builds, I have a pretty nice AB3 charm that I'm not sure about giving up, but I could slot AB1 decos into wherever I have stun res
oh wait nvm, stun res decos are level 1
😭
Random topic, but I was thinking of trying out IG in Wilds (I've played LS up to now) and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the main differences in build/play style?
uh
between world and wilds ig?
or between ig and ls
the latter is more difficult because the differences between the two weapons boil down to "all of them"
ls builds up a meter with standard attacks and then spends it on super moves and its busted counter
ig manages duration-based buffs with its kinsect and just uses normals
IG is real spinny hours
Send bug for juice, make bug return with juice, get three different juice, fight monster with improved moveset and damage until juice run out, repeat as necessary
Different parts of monsters have different juice so you target different bits until you have all the different juice
That's the basics
IG will be less forgiving than LS but that's not really saying much
Yeah
Almost wish we'd get something like Rise IG in Wilds but that will never happen
Rise IG was straight up helicopter sim at times
wheeee
I do not know what move is the counter on ls
I think both moves out of Special Sheathe (RT+A/Cross -> RT or Y/Triangle) are counters, as well as Foresight Slash (RT+B/Circle)
or maybe Iai Slash just gives reduced damage taken when timed correctly
Nah, y/triangle had some armor, but not iframes, I think

yeah iai's just hyperarmor
I don't think i've ever used a counter
i didn’t know fade -> r2 was a counter too
you should, it's the reason LS is so broken
I've never used LS
Not entirely true
I main IG, DB and Hammer
wait, am i failing to remember a move?
swaxe my beloved
so slow
what a weird weapon
hammer….
I made a cool layered hammer that’s an axe, but I haven’t given it a spin (hehe) yet
One attack per minute ahhh weapon
Charge blade has block frames on some attacks
i wish ZSD in world wasn't bonkers
ahhh
that's not a counter though
it doesn't negate all damage either
guard points just reduce damage like you blocked with the shield
I mean it depends on your definition of counter, and it can with appropriate levels of guard
And it let's you chain into a saed
Axe kinda goated tho
if you want to make the monster into the dead monster start putting your swaxe into their mouth and pulling the trigger a bunch
zero sum discharge is a very silly move
savage axe do kinda fuck tho it's true
activating savage axe fills me with murderous glee
Me when i stagger the monster with axe
Hit em with the Winter Soldier special
AGAIN
AGAIN
No recourse allowed
SWAXE SWEEP WHAT THE FUCK IS LOW DAMAGE YOU BUFFOONISH BEAST
I still prefer DB and IG
Swaxe is just slooooooow
or alternatively just give me accel axe
Nothing will ever hit the same as sliding down a slope with hammer in World and becoming a living sawblade after you jump
CB rotary saw mode sweep tbh.
Unleash the pizza cutter
That’s just the sns slinger in world
it should hvae kept it in wilds
Ok
Here’s my opinion on each big gimmick for the (main) monster hunter games that have them
Swimming. It’s ok. I never played tri but it seems pretty neat. 7/10 never tried it
Hunter Arts. W-Woag… this was cool. The Good Shit, you could say. A good way to differentiate yourself from other hunters AND the attacks were cool as fuck? 10/10 cool beyond belief
Clutch Claw. Eh. It’s a cool idea, but it’s just kinda…I don’t know. It feels weird to me and it shouldn’t since, well, I’m a fifth fleeter this is literally my thing. 5/10 something is wrong and I can’t tell what
Wirebugs. Dislike isn’t accurate to describe my feelings here, but I never quite liked them. It always felt like rise relied on them too heavily. You use them for mobility, for special moves, for mounting, for quick recoveries, and you only get like two at a time. 3/10 leaned on too hard
Focus mode. Wilds isn’t out yet so I can’t judge but from what ive experienced it’s pretty neat. NA/10 too early to judge.
i think cluchclaw depends a lot on the weapon your using
sns gets a bunch of toys with it
Charge Blade is my bread and butter for world, so that might be it
to the point it feels like sns should just alwatys have it
or some version of it
cause rise feels like it got nothing
and wilds felt like nothing too
Well as I said wilds isn’t out yet so we can’t quite judge yet
Also sns is The starter weapon so having that complexity may be a bit much but I see where you’re coming from.
ls was pretty benginre friendly and it got the sheathe move added as a normal thing
another thing ive thought about is let it always have the slinger and let it have speical options within the slinger
its really fun
Tbh I don't think SnS being viewed as the Starter Weapon means it should get a lot less than other weapons
...I don't get where SnS being viewed as the Starter Weapon comes from, actually, arguably Longsword is easier to pick up
greatsword is traditionally the starter weapon
it's the "main" weapon in most games because it's far and away the most simple in most
and one of the most powerful
Yeah either greatsword or longsword
LS is prevailingly easy to use once you understand it, and is far and away the most generous, but unlike greatsword it has like
real mechanics
Of course we all know the REAL beginner weapon is charge blade
so it's only explicitly the Please Pick Me weapon in rise
True
Longsword really did get the favorite child treatment in Rise
And greatsword to a lesser extent, with Surge Slash turning it from what was one of my least favorite weapons into my favorite
...god I miss Surge Slash, it's so much more fun than just
"Charge overhead, charge overhead, charge overhead that flips into stronger overhead"
It's offered that way in World, at least, if I remember correctly. I think specifically the idea of being able to use items without sheathing is part of it
having a shield is also great
i picked up sns relatively quickly (compared to the skill levels i got to with other weapons), and it's a very comfy pick for those 2 reasons, along with pretty low commitment attacks
Sorry
It's been the only weapon you start with in a couple of games
and while in practice it is a highly techincal weapon with a lot of depth
It's basics are pretty simple
No need to apologize?
This is where tackle comes in 😛
Well they have consistently depicted the hunter in promotional stuff as using the GS so it's always been kind of a weird thing I think, especially because it creates this impression that everything is an upgrade to the SnS
brand recognition
no one mistakes a dude in wack ass dragon armor holding a sword twice their size for a Dark Souls character
that mf is a Monster Hunter and you can tell because the sword is of truly daft proportions
SnS: New dark souls game?
Greatsword: epic monster hunter
Well with sns
It can slice it can bonk it is mobile and it can even offer fast consumable access
What's stopping it from being a beginner weapon?
Like, a good portion of monster hunting gets covered by sns
Side note, you can launch focus attacks while airborne with the sns
I think there was an interview for Wilds when they said that while they obviously test every weapon they also primarily tune the pacing of monsters around Greatsword
the combat wouldn't feel like Monster Hunter if they balanced monster speed around Longsword or Dual Blades, would get a lot faster, need a ponderous weapon
Yup, thar was recently part of the ign coverage
It's a good thing too, because it makes the monsters feel more real
Arkveld may have kicked my arse all over the place, which I'm still salty about, but I really like how it has obvious recovery periods etc
Also I'm loving how every monster has focus attackable moments.
Gyro's flashbang, after the big chain dragon nova from arkveld, dogma's rearing slam.. etc
Well, preodered, but i have to wait till 23:00 on the 27th to get my code, thanks 2game <.<
rawr greatsword
Dumb Mod idea for Wilds: Everytime you do the new Helmsplitter follow up it plays "omaiwa mo... shinderu"
That or plays the "I am the Storm that is approaching" lyric from Bury the Light
slap the judgement cut sfx on the helmsplitter followup and sheathe counter
i'm excited to try LS and bow
Turn your game into an Uno Hunter video 😛
Literally me
I'm just going straight up samurai build in this game lmao
As is right and good
I think I'm going to be going "high tech" with the switch axe and light bowgun
I’ll be going for either cb and ls (anime combo) or swaxe and lance (don’t have a good combo name here)
No points for guessing what I'll be playing
🤝
Gunlance, clearly
DB and IG for aerial and ground superiority
One Million Cuts
exactly
Spinny Slicers
I know for sure my main will be Heavy Bowgun, not quite sure what my secondary will be though. I'm thinking either Lance, Insect Glaive, or Hunting Horn
You know who I really want to make a comeback in Wilds now that we know we have an ice region?
Goss Harag
Give us the oni bear, capcom
I miss Espinas
It's be funny if they brought back Legiana
Espinas is fun, I'm having fun fighting it in Frontier
Yea I was super happy to see Espinas on Rise
one of the few monsters I vibe with from Frontier for sure
Honestly I like a lot of the frontier monsters, they're very cool
Definitely less grounded design wise but still very enjoyable for the most part
Fuckin uh. Man there's a 6* key in there that's really sick, it's like...laser magma diablos?
ye for me it goes honestly a bad to far with the designs. For me it doesnt really feel monster hunter and way moreJRPG
Varusaburosu
Nah it's a "Burst" species
Gureadumosu is an "ancient" species of Gravios that honestly has a cool design and gimmick, in theory
But it's also just one of the worst fights ever
Honestly all I really know of frontiers is a couple monster fight themes that I plan on using in a TTRPG campaign I'm running
i hope we do get a couple frontier monsters, but that we get actual translations for their names instead of just romanization of their jp names
i like this little guy
and akura vashimu/jebia
really neat crystal scorpions
I dig Pariapuria's gimmick of eating and barfing
I just wish axolotl monster was more cool and less gross
I've got a soft-spot for the grotesque, but I get what you mean
Oh don't get me wrong I do too but like. Not on my cute amphibians man
I'm a Nurgle enjoyer
So just saw a vid of LS with QS and for those wondering while it does provide a notable speed increase it doesn't change the animation. So you can't just QS SS ISS in a split second like Rise, but it still does seem faster than World's QS SS ISS.
this is nonsensical to someone who doesn’t play longsword
Qucik Sheath is a big skill for Long Sword (also greatsword and several other slow to sheathe weapons)
SS is spirit slash, and ISS is Iai Spirit Slash (Draw attack, basically)
Basically QS makes SS faster, but in Rise it was a much bigger difference than World, and Wilds seems to be somewhere in between the two unless my recollection is faulty
Now to see if my recomendations so me anyone using the Focus skill to see if that makes the new "charge your spirit attacks to skip straight to roundslash" attack fatser cause I really hope it do since it would also benefit filling the spirit gauge with regular attacks
Anyone who played the beta know by chance if evade window applies to the like new perfect dodge for DB?
I don't think Evade Window was in the beta

I think it does
While the Evade Window skill was not in the beta, the Hope Horn can drop echo bubbles that grant a small movement speed boost as well as what's effectively an Evade Window bonus. My dual blades buddy said there felt like a tangible difference in the perfect dodge with that bonus, so I think it works
Ahh tyty
Completely anecdotal and difficult to test but signs point to yes
So apparently we'll be able to choose whether or not we see the inflated weapon attack values
oh thank fuck
...do you know where that screenshot is from? the inconsistent capitalization is a bit weird
also the sentence is cut off
hang on, I'll grab it from the site formerly known as Twitter
oh nice
great to see true raw is an option
X links aren't allowed on the server anymore, there's a bot that blocks them
oh i see, the screenshot is a hand translation of a Japanese screenshot? that would make more sense
i don't know enough Japanese to verify the translation myself, but 🤞
having both as an option is the best way to do it really
I originally saw it cause GaijinHunter quote tweeted it and he lives in Japan so I'd say it's likely accurate
Thank God!
that seems to be the approach with Wilds: options, options, options. i'm happy with it
Even with giving us an extra weapon option in combat (even if I'm not sure how to handle that, probably gonna have like a poison weapon in one slot and a blast in the other assuming the DPS calculations work out similarly for LS in this game as it did in World)
yeah i'm going to have to see what ends up feeling good in game, but i think i'm going to be running with swaxe/hammer as my mains and then carry a LBG for backup if i want to back off and hit the monster from more of a distance and/or DBs to dish out elemental/status damage
Yeah, my concern is LS meter would degrade when in the other weapon so I'd need something I can use for a purpose before swapping back. Also hoping swapping mid combat isn't as clunky later in the game as it is right now where we have to mount and ride the Seikret to swap. It can just get weird trying to maintain combat flow with that going on.
I'm taking two horns
i am shocked. shocked i tell you
Maybe, actually. The way the songs degrade might make that a rough prospect
mmm. i feel like the two weapons approach, as it currently is implemented, kind of wants a system where monsters have different "phases" to their fight where they behave radically differently to the point that having a completely different weapon might be indicated
but that would also be a pretty substantial change-up to the series' formula
I'm waiting to see if the game convinces me that there's a use case for two weapons because it's never something I have wanted before
but idk, maybe I'll just take gunlances with two different shelling types
or a greatsword I use purely for wakeup attacks 🙃
i figure worst case scenario, i bring along a backup weapon and just never use it
but yeah. it's definitely a very experimental move and i'll be interested in seeing what gets done with it
I could see myself taking a horn with Echo Wave (Blunt) and one with Echo Wave (Cutting). Get a KO or two with the first one and then start working on getting tail cuts and such
With the second one
With the new way ammo is done I might just go CB and HBG
In all the Rey Dau hunts I went on I gave the GS user once chance for a TCS wakeup. After that I jumped off the top ropes with the Seikret dismount attack
The horn dismount attack is very funny
We sort of get that now. Stuff like flying monsters that spent forever in the air, you could switch to a gunner weapon for those "phases"
yeah, or for monsters with particularly dangerous enrages, you could swap to a longer-range or more defensive weapon
as a swaxe user with limited defense options, enraged monsters can sure make me sweat sometimes 😅
SwAxe is getting an offset attack now too so that'll probably help
it is pretty neat! it has a long enough windup that i think it's going to be more of a reward for reading the monster than a reactive defense option, unless they shorten the startup in the full release
the sword mode counterattack is absolutely
though
i think it works out well, though. axe mode is more suited for hit-and-run poking anyway, while sword mode is where you really want to be able to stick to the monster for a long combo, so the latter being the mode with a defensive move that lets you see an attack coming and go "nope" is suitable
I'm really hoping evade window applies too the dual blades perfect dodge.
I was having some real frustration dodging arkveld in the demo. I think I'm just too used to having evade window to crutch on, but also it's so good and comfy to have
I'm pretty sure it applied to that kind of thing in world at least
And yeah arkveld's got some lingering hit boxes that are bit lame and you gotta dodge through them pretty cleanly
That and the little tendrils hitting twice is kind of annoying
Reminds me unfavorably of Doragyurosu from frontier
evade window applies to everything but it does have issues where it doesnt apply to bonus effects
like for example ls's evade
you get the extra frames but if you do your dodge during the extra frames you don't get the bonus
Like LS needs it lmfao
oh interesting
so if you get hit after the normal window but during the extra frames, you don't get the counter chance?
yeah
