#Monster Hunter
1 messages · Page 19 of 1
I missed when I used to play MH FU on the PSP with my bros. We get to cuss each other out in real time for stupid decisions.

Man I love full safi set but it truly is a suicide avoidance dance with DBs
I love farming for decorations
This is just my gathering set so there is literally no reason for me to put an actually good weapon on it
Thank you palico
Hate how huge World's aggro range is
I'll be on like, the other side of the map, and a monster will STILL retain aggro on me and prevent me from fast travel
Good fucking god I forgot why I used to main bow back in high school
What's the best all-around bow in Iceborne?
Depends on the element https://mhwbowbuilds.wordpress.com/progression/
...not sure how controversial of an opinion this is, but I genuinely can't stand Fatalis
He just feels
Obnoxious
this is a controversial opinion that i agree with vehemently
It's mostly just, like
some of its hitboxes suck ass
and it deals one trillion damage with one trillion stun multi
And the hitboxes, but they wouldn't be as bad if ONE hit didn't delete half your health bar
Like, that's just fucking excessive
it doesn't have a fun gimmick, it just has big numbers that make you miserable unless you cheese it to death with the emplacements
which is intended and optimal
and also it being the sendoff of what's supposed to be an entirely new adventure is just The Charizard Problem
It's still, like
REALLY fucking cool
But it feels like they put thematics before gameplay
of "remember this guy? he's everywhere. you love him. it's his show and always will be"
and that's just rathalos and somewhat fatalis
Eh, rathalos is more Pikachu in this analogy
no, rathalos is charizard, because both of them get a million forms
So prevalent in everything that it just feels weird not having him or his wife around
and it's a million different charizards & rathalos
as opposed to one protagonist and his one pikachu
Tbh
I don't actually know what the pikachu would be
I just want more new things and less Exactly This One Old Thing
Like, 1/4 of your HP bar would be A Fucking Lot and Too Fucking Much still but at least he isn't twotapping you with shitty hitboxes and constant attacks
it's more the stun than the damage, but that's a problem I have with monhun design overall
Stun is just
I don't think that player stun is a good mechanic
Fucking awful
it's a death spiral mechanic, but a very hamfisted one
God
That's my biggest complaint with World, is just
There's so fucking many mechanics that are just "stun but X"
Stuns, pins, roars, tremors, muck, paralysis, Velkhana/Icefang's shitass puddles
roars are telegraphed and can be rolled out of
they're a diegetic "if you're skilled or have built for it, this is an opening" mechanic
as opposed to claggers
which are really obvious and awkward
Roars do tend to be more of a mild annoyance tbh
Or a "god fucking dammit I was in the middle of a combo"
Tremors are just fucking stupid
Weak tremors make sense, like yeah, ground shakes, you fall over, but then strong tremors is just
Like, my guy
How does the ground shaking turn your legs to jelly
i can actually confirm this happens
with like
mid-sized earthquakes
ground shakes when you didn't expect it and you're just fucking mush for a moment, especially if your legs are already sore
It does feel like giant monster hunting 101 to be ready for it but that's armorskills I guess
hasn't happened to me in a few years, but I def remember the experience
Then I guess I can't be too mad at it
I think they're definitely an inferior roar mechanically
but narratively, yeah, that can happen
although it's probably also a nerves thing? which hunters should be uh
not as susceptible to
I think that’s probably what the tremors are intended to be like
that's absolutely my assumption, since they hit on things like diablos burrowing or 30-foot tall fuckbeasts slamming their entire weight on the soft ground in front of you, yeah
Naturally
I'm gonna just
Go beat the fuck out of some low rank monsters to let off steam
Which one is that after velkhana?
Was the GS video helpful?
feels good to be huntin again
trying to get afflicted pelts for my swaxe
😔
yippee yay!
It were, aye
...man
I wish Flinch Free wasn't such a mandatory skill
Especially given it's level 3 in World for some reason, so you have to give up plenty of other useful skills for the ability to actually play the game around dual blade mains
I forget, can you get by with one level of it in World if all you care about is allies flinching you? or was that unique to Rise?
I just learned to give longsword players a lovetap if they started spamming the head brainlessly
When I played hammer I mean
This was true in World
hammer's unique advantage over horn: launch inconsiderate teammates
one level worked in world and rise had a unique decoration that gave one just for teammates
Aye, Rise has a better version though
Single level 1 slot and it eliminates damage reactions inflicted on you AND damage reactions you inflict on others, and it even makes exceptions for stuns
swaxe is very fun
my axe gauge is always low tho

i guess i just need to hit counters more
moving up in da world
almost MR 70 !
😭 😭
i don't know how i made the camera go out of focus, but it's the funniest photo i have so i decided to use it
fucking hell
Game I just want a blast resist 2 gem why do I have to do that mission so many times 😭
What do you need Blast Resist for?
Teostra
Dont have like the most mega optimal decorations but I am jiving with this a toooon. I am a overcapping a bit on affinty tho so maybe just axe the weakness exploit ones 🤔
Eh, I wouldn't bother, you can just roll to get rid of Blast
Naw, axe Crit Eye, Weakness Exploit'll give you more bang for your buck
It gives SUCH an insane boost at even just level 1
Cause like, you're going for weak points anyway
Weakness Exploit is really good
Aye
It's regarded as one of the best skills for a good reason
Critical Eye, though
You can 100% axe a couple levels of it
Agitator and Weakness Exploit'll more than make up for it
I'd recommend slotting for some Evade Extender in its stead
So is LBG elemental ammo ever worth it in World or nah? I put together the Xeno'jiva LBG on a whim and it's kinda neat that it can fire every element of ammo but idk if I actually want to be doing that
Yeah but with teostra it’s applied every five seconds
Anyway, I switched from gunlance to lance and managed to slot it in without the blast resist 2 gem
LBG is one of the premier elemental weapons (although I dunnon about Xeno'jiva's specifically). it follows the usual rule that the faster the weapon, the better it is at elemental damage
Aye
Xeno gear is unfortunately very quickly outclassed though
Kjarr is better for elemental stuff
Xeno Gear being so... weird and the models being like that.. some choices were made in World, for sure
Well I'm still faffing about in HR so it'll do for the moment
I'm not going to start in on Iceborne until I get the temporal and rocksteady mantles unlocked I think
Wanna get at least a taste of the old endgame content since I never really had a chance to before
Valid
If you want a REAL taste of old endgame, go fight Extremeoth and Ancient Leshen with HR gear
(Disclaimer: Don't)
Namielle time!
oh god this is gunna suck
Namielle's not too bad
Aye
Though that might just be from me fighting a shitton of tempered ones in the Guiding Lands
Even AT Nami is
I remember constantly getting staggered, but hopefully tremor resist 3 helps with that
Not that awful
If you can roll the water laser you're gonna be fine
I still think its water mist attack is stupid though
The one where it turns around to hit someone and hits them with like, a spray of water
It is the weakest looking shit, WHY does it send me flying
Thank god for guard up
…okay hold on let me just look something u- you fucker I knew I was getting one shot while blocking
Always get Guard Up
Tbh they should make being launched by allies a good thing
Get launched, do aerial attacks
That's already what happens, at least in Worldborne
you can but its diffcult to setup
Namielle is actually the monster that I'm going to cosplay the armor of.
i REALLY hope that they come back eventually
I mean the issue is that it does a fuck ton of damage even through a guard
I think higher levels of guard helps with that?
That said aomw monsters will just fuxk you up through high levels of guard+up
Jang is suffering
Atleast with DB it can be good
Jang?
Ah yeah
Well I can survive with guard 5
And then it got smacked into a wall and died
...wait immediately after namielle you get the ruiner nergigante quest? I thought there was at least one more quest
I forget, does shara have any special gimmicks other than the rock armor in the first phase?
uhhh, it depends on what you mean by special gimmicks
it'll turn the ground to sand in both phases
and in phase 2 its energy attacks explode the ground
I think in p1 the fingie twitch while it's submerged also does?
So probably want mire walker for the sand?
not sure if that affects it, should look it up before you slot
i also don't think it's a huge deal anyway, you just gotta be careful of your positioning during the sonic attacks
and can roll out
I’m using lance so rolling is a no go
Hopefully
There's rocks that you can break on top of the arena on one side, but I don't know if there's a mechanic gimmick to it
This would be more dramatic if the best lance at this point wasn't made from chicken
And my palico wasn't dressed for halloween
...okay so I died but I managed to somehow get a tenderplate despite not breaking its head twice
So that's nice
…okay maybe lance isn’t the best option for shara
we got unblockables in here
Maybe switch axe, though I’d need to grind a bit to get a better one

😭
Worse, blockable attacks that kill you if you block them

Actually not too much grinding, I just need a bunch of high rank kirin parts and a namielle whisker
...okay "a bunch of kirin parts" apparently includes 10 horns, yeah I'm not doing that
Well that's a pretty meh end screen
Apparently the secret to beating sharva was to 1) bring a weapon that doesn't move at a snail's pace so you can actually get away from it's beam attack and 2) pring your palico with you
Never underestimate a palico
Yeah, palicos are really damn good
But they make the monster less predictable and easier so I usually don't bring them with me
I used to like followers, but after a while it just felt
Lonely
I NEED that interaction with real players
can you auto join lobbies
wait there's no sos thing in rise right
it would be nice to be beamed in to a mission where someone wants help
like being summoned as a cooperator in souls
the reason I haven't played with others much is I haven't looked too much into how to best join someone, might give it a try later
No, but you CAN go and respond to a random join request
Though there's a decent chance the game will put you in a hunt RIGHT before it ends
i see,,
i might try to join some random anomaly stuff ig
or keep chilling by myself we'll see

i have one investigation that's an afflicted great wroggi
and a khezu
it got me either 1/2 or 1 full MR level
where the other, higher level investigation that I had gave me 1/4 of an MR level
i think it's the 2 monsters combined with a 35 minute timer, probably gives me more anomaly points too? idk idk, but it's nice, I think I'll be able to fight valstrax today
Fwiw, Rose, Shara kicked my arse when the game released
like i g ot thrashed for a while
I think a big part of it is how getting stunned in phase 2 is a borderline guaranteed death
And it took me a couple of attempts to remember to slot in steadfast <-<
Even after I did slot it in shara would still catch me with the beam a lot when I was trying to set up power axe mode
It has a weirdly short wind up
Rise's multiplayer part for joining random or hunts for specific monsters was real bad.
Aside from anomaly monster wasn't it just - search for other peple doing this one specific quest?
i believe so yeah, part of the reason i haven't tried to go online much
Yep, it was pretty awful

Y'all think this hat goes decently well with this outfit or does it just look stupid
Bluh
I have been wanting to pay MonHun for two days straight and haven't had the time
This evening cannot come soon enough
...I just realize that I've completely forgotten what the point of the guiding lands exclusive materials is
👍
Augments and layered armor. Also getting mr100 asap is really important as the godly health augment is locked behind it
And is considered too be Very meta, because it enables a lot more aggression
Be! Aggressive! B! E! !Aggressive!
It feels so weird not having it in Rise
"Oh, I'll just whack the monster a bit and rega-oh right, health regen isn't a thing anymore."
I just realised that MH Wilds already makes me sad
Because it has inflated attack values on weapons.
whew
What does that mean?
I assume CU means like how in world a greatsword's listed damage is about 5 times it's true raw value
Ah
Ah damnit
I was hoping we'd stick to true raw again
probably a setting for that
i always got confused when playing world because of that, you've got 540 damage or 360 with 100 element or whatever, hard to keep track of 😵💫
So there's two approaches the game uses.
One is too use a inflated value which is supposed to give you a feel for how much damage the weapon will actually do per hit. Or could do, or something, It's Complicated.
The other is what's called True Raw, which renders things the same across every weapon class. So it's much easier to see oh X dual blades and Y Greatsword have the same raw. Also makes seeing how much upgrades are and how good stuff like Attack boost actually is easier.
Elemental is at least easy - you can take any element number in World/Wilds and divide it by ten to get the real elemental value.
But every weapon has it's own unique modifier so actually figuring out raw on a weapon is arse
ok i wasn’t sure if i was misremembering numbers being different across weapon types
Each weapon basically has its own multiplier that modifies the true raw
And usually it's 0.X
Which mostly makes it harder to compare weapons between different types
TBF using the true raw between weapon types isn't really that useful anyway since attack damage is partly determined by motion value which varies between different attacks anyway.
motion values are massive, yeah
and the fake numbers do give you a solid sense of how hard a weapon actually hits due to its motion values
IMO True Raw is better when comparing between weapons of the same type while Inflated Raw is usually better for giving new players an idea of how hard a weapon hits when compared to those of another type
I prefer true raw in all cases
It just gives you the most objective comparison
And the inflated numbers mean if you want to accurately compare two different typed weapons, you need to back convert the values to true raw
And then you need to compare motion values anyway
I don't see where motion values come in for a comparison
If a set of DB has 150 true raw, and a GS has 120
Then the DB will probably do more damage
But the inflated values make that comparison more difficult
Inflated really has no upsides beyond conforming slightly more to people's expectations
Ie, slow weapons should have big numbers
Because if a new player comes in and sees DBs with a TR of 100 and then a GS with a TR of 100 they're gonna think they want to use the raw DBs even though DBs MVs make their attacks weaker than the GS and thus they would want elemental which they wouldn't know to look for
Yes and that's an understandable misconception
But that's the only benefit to inflated
today i learned that whetstones don't fully restore sharpness
went all the way from purple to yellow cuz i was going nuts on a tetronadon with swaxe
i need to find 2 more levels of razor sharp somewhere
...god I fucking hate kirin
Channel that into killing it even harder
kirin evolved to be unpleasant to fight as a defense mechanism against predators
So apparently you can do the yian garuga arena challenge before you even encounter it, which leads to some interesting minimap and targeting icons
Huh, interesting
How strong is gogmazios when it comes to lore?
It walks around with a dragonator sticking out of it and doesn't seem to notice or care, and I can't tell if it's because ths ragonator missed or because Gog is just that tough
Unfortunately, this didn't help it against its main predator, rajang, who has an even more unpleasant fight.
Eg, rajangs noggin is way easier to booop
It's a nasty elder dragon, but it's not one of the black three or safijiva, so it's not the maximum threat
Threatening, for sure
What makes it different from them?
The black 3 or whatever hte right term is - Dire Miralis, Fatalis, and Altaeron are full on "Oh shi- what the hell oh no" in various ways and orders. Also almost always banned from being talked about in promotional stuff by Capcom
But all 4 of them (including Safi) are apoclyptic on some scale.
Dire Miralis literally boils oceans.
Alateraon has acess to every element, and uh, isnt very in control of htem.
Safi'jiva drains life force from the land and spawns more xenojiva
FAtalis is uh, Fatalis. (It ate a kingdom in one night)
Gog is nasty, does a lto of damag,e but ultaiutmely he's just a big dragon who... has as werid diet (Sulfur and gunpowder), and most of the problems with Gog occur because it wakes up hangry, the best place to get sulfur and gunpowder is human settlements, it goes and chows down, and then it just utnnels back underground and goes back into hibernation. IT's a threat, b ut it's mostly just acting like a normal animal, it's just uh, a big tar dragon instead of like, a bear.
Fatalis can actively pr obably be called' Evil" in a way i wouldnt actually apply to any other monster
Wasn’t fatalis caused by that kingdom bc they fucked around and fatalis was the find out?
Its one of those myths that we can't be sure about
Some say if you kill a fatalis you become a fatalis
-# this is a lie
i'm not fatalis
IIRC the specific is that if you wear Fatalis gear long enough it turns you into one
Starts putting Elderdragonblood instead of Pale Extract into demondrugs
Surely nothing will go wrong
this is a myth/rumor yes
not actual confirmed lore
Yeah, I meant the specifics of the myth
Dire moralis was def the weakest of the family but damn would I love to see it again
one where it regrows around you and one where you turn into one
after being driven insane
What a horrifying concept still
IIRC doesn't it also self-rez supposedly from its heart/core that still beats/pulses?
I just think they're neat because I love swimming and fighting something that is that big
Dire Miralis I mean
Also Dire Miralis theme is cool
I used it in a TTRPG once when making the party from the god of the elemental planes
Wife got me some fun new keychains
Now all you need is one of those wearable speakers to blast HH songs
I was just in the guiding lands, got a lot of materials
can now make layered armor
but the one I want requires materials I don't know
and a shit ton of frostfang tickets
tickets are such a funny crafting material. "you know our sapphire star? The once in a generation hunter who beats up demigods for fun? Turns out they're highly motivated by arcade prizes."
but ye tempered frostfang is

it gets better in multiplayer but holy shit
genuinly harder than shara ishvalda
Dunno, Tempered frostfang is easy for me. But then again I run an immortal jackass with a gunlance build.
Well yeah, you're supposed to take shara on with whatever gear you've cobbled together in MR.
Tempered Frostfang is like, minimum mr24 or so, he's quite a jump up!
The good news is that if you can down him, his armor and weapons are a great MR starting point - like they're some of the bis for killing altareon etc
I’m pretty sure frostfang is the source of the best pre-alatreon normal gunlance in the game
…actually wait safi’s are better
Ik I got its weapon and it feels awesome
Next step after I got weapons layered and all ama fight safi
L + ratio + Deviljho swaxe + handicraft + temporal mantle + thunderproof mantle + i got your sorry ass in one try
GET THAT FUCKIN HORSE
The funny thing is the devs intended it to be way harder, it came out as a pet easy fight, and the devs were like... Huh. Given how hard referring has been post game, this works
Referring?
Yeah the worst part is just the ice puddles
And even then the tell for him creating the puddles is really big
They're just fucking awful if you use a slower weapon because you'll get stuck in it and your character will inexplicably toss everything to the wayside besides struggling out like a fucking moron
Man I love mushroomancer 3
To frostfang - they meant for it to be a tougher fight, and it ended up kinda wimpy.
BUT they were happy with how it all shook out in the end
I have a Mushroom Healer build, is funni.
i managed to fit it into my normal safi build
Congratulations, you've beat Sunbreak
😌
i still have yet to see a risen but i really wanted to try to beat it today
after actually looking at its attacks it was pretty doable
There's an event quest with a tempered teostra, lunastra, and nergigante that fulfills the requirements
Rainbow dye is from the quest that’s unlocked when you beat every other quest in the base game
The quest I’m talking about is apparently called the thronetaker
this might actually be the funniest killscreen i've ever gotten
Damn. That girl's heat problems are over now at least.
...I need to get a better pc
are you using the perofrmance mod?
world honestly has really bad cpu issues
rise runs way better
I am yes
Watching a video on plesioth rn
Why is it so fucking BIG holy shit
This fucking thing makes Rathalos look small
Because fuck you hip check
starting a new HH journey with frontier z
holy shit it looks like the attack up XL song in this game is fuckin 30%
JESUS
the moveset is super different too, gonna take a lot to get used to
I really hope Wilds will be decently moddable
partially because I fear it will need fixing with mods
Ditto, but I just want to be able to turn my greatswords into Wyvern Ignition
My dearest Wyvern Ignition...
meanwhile, capcom HQ: some old guy recoils upon someone on planet earth wishing a capcom game to be mod supported
I don't get that aversion to mods ngl
it's just corporate dipshittery
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOW DARE YOU MODIFY MY PERFECT CREATION THAT I HAD NO REAL HAND IN CREATING BEYOND LEGALLY OWNING THE IP NOOOOO I KNOW BETTER THAN YOU WHAT THIS GAME NEEDS HOW DARE YOU GET YOUR GRUBBY PEASANT MITTS ON IT"
🤔 i think its something that's a product of the Japanese work ethic
you can see it in Nintendo too
Where they get all uppity about people taking away the experience they made and "ruining" it by adding other things
that and the naked Chun Li mod that was used during a major SF tourney soured their opinion on it, fuckin hell
or in the case of Nintendo, playing the game they didn't intend it to be played
Nintendo is just reaaaaaaally anal about it. Its the reason why a lot of soundtrack videos get DMCA'd on youtube
it ain't a good mindset by any means
but yeah
that was SO funny dude
It was really funny, though it did cement Capcom's stance on modding their games
I did the quest with the broken horn kirin yesterday, I will never hunt a kirin again
Also now I gotta do Rajang
The only thing I discover out of the entire beta, was finding out theres "Arachnophobia vision" which I am like "huh?"

Fellow hunters I beseech thee
Anyone with a good GU save and nintendo online able to trade me their guild cards IF you have a good palico
I'm looking to hire peoples palicos
At least I think thats how it can work right?
ok nvm i looked it up and i was confused, That was only for tailriders in Worlds. Back to hunting down palicos with good skills
funnily enough i didn't have too hard of a time with tempered kirin, though i suspect a lot of that was using the temporal and thunderproof mantles to absorb lightning hits that might have one- or two-shot me
but rolling with the switch axe, it was pretty easy to get into a rhythm of position to avoid lightning > take a swing at its head > repeat > open up with sword mode for massive damage when it flinches or topples
yeah temporal and thunderproof is the wya to deal with kirin
save them for when its angery
you can always back up for a while to get time to regen the tools, and buy the resist food as well as already have max elec resistance skill
Double never mind I found that you CAN send palicos
All this work to make a Bombing prowler that I know will just fluster my fellow hunters.
It'll all be worth it just to hear my friends go "Damn it theja"
Its a shame prowlers aren't in wilds
It's the New Weapon argument - any new weapon is another huge load of work thath as to be carried foward and iterated on every future game
Yall got tips for rajang?
Hit him a lot and dodge his attacks
More seriously though, what game and what weapon?
His attacks are pretty easily GP-able, he's pretty predictable.
One of the biggest openings is when he raises his arms and does the small belly flop. He always does a little flourish after getting up from that. Also make sure your sword is charged as much as possible so you don't bounce off the arms, and I'd probably save axe mode for topples
I can’t guar point
You can do some pretty good practice with Guard + Y/Triangle for transform as that's a super easy, quick on-demand GP
I think a single level of guard with a charged shield gets you the equivalent of Guard 5 on a GP
Alr I’ll train it
also charging your sword lets you stay in sword mode longer if you want to sword and board it
I’ll definitely need focus and maybe even the one that gives one extra charge
Sword mode is what you'll be in the majority of the time against Rajang until you get really comfortable with the fight I think
Oh yeah Focus and Capacity Boost(?) are extremely good on CB
Do you know about Athena?
The armor set searcher?
You could filter search to find a build with the skills you want that doesn't depend on gems or charms
No
Weakness exploit, 3 part breaker like 3 or 4 damage increase
One health booster
thats not a good setup
are a lot of them damage skills?
Pretty sure ye
yeah thats not good for a weapon like charge blade
your build is too damage heavy and not enough of defense and supporting your weapo
quick shere is a big one ofr charge blade
you want health up 3
you also want slot space to get element resist for when fighting something heavy on an element
like lightning for rajang or kirin
power prolonger makes it when you charge your shield or sword it lasts longer
focus i think is a little bit overrated for charge blade
it already charges really fast if your doing charged attacks
Question
For unlocking the rocksteady mantle, does the tempered kirin assignment count towards your three tempered elder dragons, or do you need to do three tempered ed investigations
The Tempered Kirin is how you unlock the rest and you can take time gathering tracks for then during so worth knocking it out anyway
I mean I already did the quest, I just have one tempered 3 investigation unlocked so I'm wondering whether I have 1 or 2 to go
Slash whether I want to keep grinding those out or if I want to take the shortcut with the tempered Nerg/Teo/Luna event quest
I'm not in a huge rush but I'm also mindful of the fact that I have a limited time to get through Iceborne before Wilds drops
Y'know what'd be neat
If you could attack with charge blade's shield beyond socking something in the jaw with it or transforming it into the axe form
Like, you can shieldbash and slice things with it and when it's powered up it turns into an arm-mounted buzzsaw
Oh, yeah, I mean like
It'd be neat if you could do that while it's still a shield on your arm
i thnk the charge blade is already plretty loaded
Aye, but it could be MORE loaded
How would it spin while still attched to your arm though?
Same way it stays attached to your arm without any straps or anything:
✨ Totally not magic✨
Pls no
Oh hey I know that guy
Oh wow didn't think I'd get spotted at random
Pretty sure the last time me being in Youtube comments came up it was because I mentioned it to try and make a joke about accidentally starting a flamewar again
Lmao
Tbh
Watching that video makes me strongly consider maining longsword
...well
Maining it more than I already do, anyway
Join us! JOIN US IN THE WEEB SPACE!
i only really enjoy it in rise due to the countermoves
I have citizenship in the Weeb Space but I like to travel to other countries (read: I have MULTIPLE main weapons)
my build is about crit draw and counters
I like charge blade, I like gunlance, I like bow, I like both types of gun, I like longsword, I kinda like greatsword but every day I miss Rise's Surge Slash Combo, I like insect glaive...
...god I miss Surge Slash
i like sns quite a bit
Turned greatsword from a slow, clunky hit-and-runner into a STUPID fun and fast striker that hit like a fucking truck
Oh yeah and I like SnS too
i kinda feel like sns isnt as fun without cluch claw
i think they would have let sns have it in wilds
sns in rise felt like it got nothing
But it would also make it SKYROCKET in the meta to the point of being infinitely more valuable than any other weapon
Simply because "hur hur hur wallbang, tenderize, hur hur hur"
Worlds SnS I think was a bit whack since doing perfect rush was kinda the best thing to always do no?
even without the wallbang
perfect rush requires good timing
It's something you use when you have a HUGE opening
its a long combo string
I.e. a monster is toppled
its longer than demon mode's combo
they should have at least given it the shotgun back in wilds
Aye
i really think sns needs some ore of item boost thing
i know of oils in the past
but give it more
like give it by default without any skills more slinger damage and ammo
and maybe you can get a skill that upgrades slinger ammo
and craftable slinger ammo on the fly
(besides the stuff like flashbomb)
SnS used to have a shotgun??
in rise if you use the cluchclaw while having your weapon out
you can fire a shotgun blast of the slinger ammo
(SnSnS... 🤔)
Iceborne you mean?
yeah iceborne
Slinger bombs are decentish with it as well
Slinger burst yeah
Other weapons also have that but the only one I can think of that does is lance
Oh right yeah
i thiiiiink IG might have a slinger burst?
i swear there're like 4-5 weapons that do
but i'm only really confident about sns gs lance
Greatsword's can pull some black magic bullshit and let you INSTANTLY hit a TCS
Wait, instantly?
Well, not INSTANT instantly, but it's so insanely fast that it's goddamn near instant
no, it's the first swing and then you cancel the follow-ups
the TCS is normal speed
it just skips the middle (1? 2?) swings
with the slinger burst
When you said instantly I assumed you meant there was a glitch or something, not the standard slinger burst -> TCS
yeah i just wanted to specify that it's just the normal accelerated TCS
Oh, sorry
I couldn't figure out how to do SAED with CB for a while back in wilds demo
So brain just went - GU play style it is
AED spam intensifies
Lmao
Did they change it from World's where it's just
"Charge up your shield and you can SAED"?
you can't saed from neutral in wilds
You can do it as a followup to an AED, or off a guard-point
Well, in the demo anyway]
Yeah it's a little clunky
Kinda shoehorned everyone into savage axe as the alternative since you can't just SAED whenever you've got the axe out anymore
Oh right, there was a change to charging the sword as well, it's a little faster but there's no longer that big sword slam. You just kind of stick it the shield and crank it
It kinda feels like it'd be a guard point? But I don't really know since I never used it that way
Oh wait
I might be wrong?
They may have changed the route to it, cause in the beta it didn't work like it used to
But the sword slam is in the CB trailer so...
Okay yeah it's still there
What the heck was that weird cranking move I did then..
Apparently it was "shield: elemental boost"
If I were to guess
Looks like you're able to boost the shield from phial reload
And I simply forgot buttons
Lmao happens to the best of us
...hrm
Between these two, which do y'all feel looks better
I'm not sure if I like Big Zweihander or Big Metal Slab more
Both are cool but in my highly subjective opinion the big metal slab feels more like MonHun
Big zwei is something I associate more with Dark Souls
That's true
I think that's accurate, but I'm more partial to the zwei in general
(although frankly that's a dreihander at minimum)
Is it really Monster Hunter if your weapon isn't in some way wildly impractical?
Wildly impractical for fighting humans, maybe, but you need every bit of size you can get fighting apex predator megafauna
Except that math wise, the strength required to move a greatsword like a a greatsword moves in game means that hunters can just rip mosnters apart barehanded and the sword is for showing offf XD
This is why the Admiral in world doesn’t have a weapon
The Admiral mains THESE HANDS
Unironically, I believe that man just straight up beats the everloving shit out of monsters
Fundamentally the weapons in monster hunter are incredibly stylized in a way that makes them grossly impractical at fighting anything
I maintain the hunters are actually teeny tiny and this is all spider-man proportional strength nonsense (legally this is a joke)
Soemthing something deep lore how all of the hunters are far descendants of a super soldier program
Also bigger planet? There's a bunch of half-rembered, half said stuff weh ave no idea is canon or not
TBF the humans in MonHun also aren't like us humans since they, like wyverians, share ancestors with a monster group. Though it's fanged beasts instead of wyverns.
Meaning the wild impracticality to us wouldn't be to them
Being related to Rajang has its perks
Also apparently the weapons have to be that way to even get past monster hides and scales at base
They're still very large
I think I am now somwhat happy with my loudout. I could maybe swap out more crit eye for weakness exploit to open up some more things 🤔 (is full safi)
What are you playing on Vero?
PC (and mouse and keyboard)
alright alright alright
the lack of music is so jarring
Khezu has no eyes therefore cannot see you thus there is no music trigger
anyone wanna help me get black veil guiding lands materials later?
got that early MR drip goin'
dis my go to fit in World
learning dbs is going ok so far
using it in some anomaly and using less X+A and more counters 😭
i think my biggest adjustment in Iceborne is getting used to being effectively busted back down to beginner level wrt my capabilities
"why is this hunt taking so long" ~20min is a normal and reasonable amount of time for a hunt to take, you just got used to wrecking everything's shit in <15min with your endgame HR kit
yeaaaaah it takes a lot longer to do hunts
it's going to be wild to go from Rise to World again
for me
i can knock out even the most endgame of hunts that isn't some kind of big ass boss in like 15 minutes in Rise
anything short of the endgame boss monsters is lightwork with DB
it's fun being able to schmove
i had to drop a few levels of skills for razor sharp but i think it's a dps increase tbh
i should also look into marathon runner (?)
oh perfect, i just made the flaming espinas chest which has ab2 and marathon runner 2
I just found out that the monhun community is trying to pull away from fextralife/fandom.
Welcome to the (upcoming) wiki dedicated to Monster Hunter, the Hunting Action game series by Capcom.

oh fuck yes
The domain might change in the future because they know the .xyz domain is an issue
oh, what's the deal with the xyz domain?
i'd never seen it used so i just assumed it was niche
Its a very niche domain so bad for SEO
ahhh
Hopefully they can get either .com or .wiki
that'd be great, fandom sucks so bad
it's a massive pain trying to figure out anything for some of the older titles. been playing Frontier Z and it's a nightmare
hunting horn's first iterations were pretty rough
i know Kiranico used to be a big deal for MonHun fan databases
their site for World/Iceborne has been missing some info, from what i've found, though
Even for world and rise it's bad for a lot of things, I can't imagine how miserable those must be
for rise i've been switching between game8 and fextra/kiranico as secondaries, fandom is pretty barren
Iirc, the fandom wiki has a fairly insane admin who rules it as their own little fief,I remember they're being a bunch of drama about that
Many such cases
How do I deal big damage with cb, I feel like I’m like just doing medium high damage consistently but that’s it
Artillery, make SAED bigger
Charge your sword
And your shield
Also learn how to Guard Point
You can go from that directly into AED and SAED
It deserves at least 8 more SAEDs just for existing
What everyone else said, Super-Amped Elemental Discharge is more or less the highest damage attack in the game. CB is built around having its shield buff up constantly so you can always guard point (some of your attacks have a spot where it counts as guarding) counter right into it.
Learning charge blade is really boiled down to only 2 things:
- use guard points
- actually figure out how to hit your SAEDs consistently
Guard point revenge SAED is basically part of the land-more-SAEDs agenda anyways
The other playstyle is savage axe, though it's better in rise thsn world imo
Also come wilds, counter is going to be the only way to do a raw saed
Which extends to perfect guards and not just guard points?
Thick so yeah
Had a presumed monster hunter moment™ when I realized hitting the weird suction cup tail on Khezu appears to knock it down when it's on the ceiling
And all I was doing was throwing kunai at it with a teammate
Apparently you can hit it in the head too?
Might be more effective
Yeah, most things that like to lcimb etc have a Very Bad Time if they get stabbed/flinched etc while climbing
same with stuff that's sliding/rolling/bouncing etc
Or flyingg
Flying things do not like flinching at all
Psst, hunters, just a reminder of the reveal of a returning monster from NYCC!
The iconic Queen of the Land, Rathian, is back in all her majesty in Monster Hunter Wilds! #MHWilds
There was approximately a 0% chance that Rathian and Rathalos were not going to be in Wilds 😛
It would be genuinely shocking if they didn't make it in
They may actually be the only monsters that have never skipped a game
(though tiggles & Narga are up there)
Yeah I don't think the Rath couple have ever missed an appearance in any official game
Wilds is saved LFG
Quoting GamesRadar+ (@GamesRadar)
Monster Hunter Wilds hitstop feels way better in the non-beta build, and the game's director was happy to juice it back up after overseas players apparently hated it in World https://trib.al/gkLrRvo
new: dire jyuratodus: it's long so it gets to use the leviathan skeleton
I found out that Lavasioth actually first appeared in Monster Hunter Frontier
Wild
I don't want to see that one either though
Please
Literally any other piscine wyvern
I would take a redesigned plesioth over Jyuratodus at this point
....wait
Yes. Lavasioth shares a niche with Hypnocatrice and Espinas as being one of the very few Frontier-original monsters to be brought over to regular MonHun
And we found out in the worst way. It was sort of a Glavenus situation where it was called its Japanese name so we went in expecting to fight Volganus and we got there and were like "what the fuck is Lavasioth doing here"
if we get lavasioth over agnaktor again IMMA BE REALLY UNHAPPY
Please Capcom bring back my snippy snappy baby
Frontier has some cool designs. I like Pariapuria, it's like axolotl Tigrex. Rukodiora is like a magnet dragon thing that's pretty cool
Agnaktor for sure one of my favourite mid tier monsters
ye they got some fun ones but
they got so many omega extra looking monsters that could just be FF bosses
Oh yeah its got whacky stuff. I'm getting close to unlocking Magnet Spikes though so that'll be fun to try out
HH is really scuffed in the early games lmao
Hitstop feels good to me in World
I'm glad they're tweaking it back up in Wilds, I saw a clip of somebody playing swaxe hudless and couldn't tell if their attacks were connecting or not
I am a little bit sad knowing that the majority of the monsters that I got to know and love over the course of World and Rise are probably not coming back, but I'm sure I'll fall in love with the new roster too
LOTS of new Wilds reveals today including new monster gameplay! Enjoy!

Monster Hunter Wilds is the next new monster hunter game with incredible new Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay with all the Monster Hunter Wi...
i think rise's vesrion of crit draw is better than worlds
its less good for a single hit butit lets more weapons actully use it decently
How does the Rise version work? I never used it in that game
60% affinty for 3 seconds vs 100% for one attack
I still miss the MHGU days of punishing draw Valor GS
I just miss MHGU tho tbh. Definitely my favorite game in the franchise
Iceborne is close though. Best iteration of HH, probably
Just wish it had MHGU double notes. Those were such a good idea
And they never used it again
double notes?
And though I loved Echo Spin it was sort of a double edged sword design wise
Im lucky i convinced my small group to go back to MHGU with me recently
We are still going through HR but its fun
Striker sns is still the strongest ever
So whenever you use a regular move on HH you add a note to your staff, and then you can do a Performance to play it and get the buff.
In MHGU, if you hit a monster with a move that gave you a note, it would give you a double note. If you had a full song of double notes, when you do the Performance, it plays not only the actual song, but the song you played before that one, at the same time.
So let's say I just finished playing HG Earplugs. I hit a monster with all the moves for the Attack Up Large song, and do my performance. I get Attack Up Large and HG Earplugs Extended, since it plays the previous song at the same time.
It really incentivized and rewarded being aggressive with the horn and made corner horning much less of a thing
Echo Spin gave me what I wanted for a way to make status/element horns actually viable, but the move did so much damage that you ended up spamming it over and over and it ended up being not incredibly interesting. The Wilds bubbles seem like they're fixing that though
Yeah, the Echo Spin meta kind of put me off of Iceborne HH after I spent some time maining it in the base game
oooh that is pretty good :O
i didn't know the specifics of how it worked
Siliconera got to go behind the scenes at Capcom's studio in Osaka, Japan, and we saw what goes into motion capture for Monster Hunter Wilds!
Read more here: https://www.siliconera.com/preview-monster-hunter-wilds-development-showcases-capcom-creativity/
it is very fun to watch a dude pretend to be a doshaguma
oh thank god
the two gigafucked weapons are getting nerfed
before full release
really happy to see that the busted shit is getting a paddling and the worse weapons are going up to par with the better ones
Is one handed sword SnS?
probally
I take it slash axe is switch axe?
yes, that's its Japanese name
Yes. SnS was a tad undercooked in the beta
yuh
five new upkeep states added
Worked for HH!
each phial is charged by a different series of inputs, unique to each chargeblade, analogous to HH songs
New SnS felt weird
I don't really enjoy its, Slideyness
glad to see everything get brought up to the others and not just LS getting its knees broken instead.
-# Unappologetic LS lover here
wishes it got broken both knees instead lul /s
...wasn't that clear by the lul?
same lmao
Nah just still wounded by the years of longsword hate in the past =w=" It wasnt long ago that people would boot players from the lobby if they brought longsword to a hunt
ive only enjoyed it in rise due t o the counters
i do kinda hate my favorite have gotten very little in rise and wilds
the sns and charge blade
I loved it in 3U because fighting Brachydios with is was so fun.
id argue world is still better sns
they really should give sns a new mechnic
bring back the shotgun or make it buff the slinger
alterntively just give it the cluchclaw back(but remove the wall slam to make it balanced)
maybe keep the burst but it just does diffrent effects based on the slinger ammo type
clutchclaw as a single weapon's mechanic could be cool. it's a really fun design, it's just not fun enough to base the entire expansion around it
Dumb Idea: SnS finisher moves that have you stick the sword into the shield and use it to punch stab things
Let the Jack of All Trades weapon go apeshit. Just a little bit, as a treat.
i like the cluchclaw thing cause it does kinda fit with sns's sorta weapon useage thing
in world it could use the slinger or cluchclaw without putting away weapon
i have a weird fondness for oils from GU, though admittedly i didn't get that deep into the game
it does make some sense for the weapon that can use items without sheathing to have unique buff items
I mean objectively its knees needed breaking
on the other hand that adds some extra crafting upkeep to the weapon so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
could just do what they did for bows
make it a meter
and it sounds like they did at least take steps to ensure that it's not the most blandly broken weapon in the game
that or insect glave and make it where you can spend slinger ammo for buffs
that would make a lot of sense, yeah
-# I can think of some other objects that need* breaking.
No you are right it needed to be nerfed and thats what I said but too many games in recent memory take a weapon in a PvE game and make it worthless and bad to play and that's my big fear but it sounds like they have it under control
it would be pretty based if they did just straight up make it unplayably bad
it did sound like the changes they're making have an eye towards tuning towards the median
topple, can you please not
"hurhurhur weeb weapon"
Weeb shit's cool
At least the complaints of longsword staggering the shit out of everyone else are justified, but at this point the weeb jokes are fucking lame and overused
Like, alright, I get it, you never learned any other form of humor beyond this
i mean, nobody ever talks about "weeb weapon" except redditors and LS players
and looking at video game subreddits is a mistake
True
I am excited for DBs and how the perfect dodge feels
I'm glad DB got their adept style baked in nicely
Please let me get gore magala claw like DBs
i'm hoping a couple of the numbers on DBs get tuned up
most of their shit was low, but fine considering how low-commitment a lot of DB attacks are
but the high-risk moves also had pretty middling motion values
Me getting Elder Novaed while punching Ghosts stuck in demon dance animation in world
Breaking Dance into chunks was a nifty idea, DBs felt very smooth in Wilds
Switch Axe still the Commitment King
what does that mean
Like getting stuck in demon dance animation is gone now, a lot of things are fast, but Switch Axe Zero Sum Discharge is still ride or die and hope it never changes
Meanwhile LS is just getting more anime bullshit
TBF DB is an elemental weapon, so with only a raw option it'd deal less damage that a proper elemental matchup
Some GS oldheads seem annoyed that Charged Slash can be turned a little
yeah, but unless the ele scaling is even higher than normal, the raw MVs were a bit too low
I'm glad they gave red gauge an actually fun moveset
number crunching had some of the flurries at lower than world iirc
That's why they gifted it to Elden Ring
I do enjoy LS in Wilds, just would've been nice if it had the option to stall doing the full Helm Hurricane Combo from Red for the big DeePS, but as is now doing that every time right away seems to be the damage
Does look like gauge levels drop, like
REALLY fucking fast now though
Which is going to feel so shit
-# Points at someone basically calling it weeb with less words from an earlier comment
I love the new IG changes but do hope spamming the Big Cool Spin Attack isn't the best DPS method
Get like five seconds of red gauge
It lasts about a minute
Well the idea is now the loop is get to max gauge and burn it on your finisher and restart
Does it?
Peppo did a breakdown
It looked like it drained stupidly fast
It's like 45 seconds to a minute
it's longer than ever
Hello everyone! I hope you are having a nice day!
I finally realized this early breakdown about the Long Sword in MHWilds based on what I tested at Gamescom, the countless of gameplay footage we saw during such events and other Content Creators and LS mains!
This video would have not be possible without the help of:
・Nightside, also knows as Ph...
Closer to 50 seconds
Since landing roundslash can give you a bit extra
Nodders
I will say feelings about DBs in world are prob also muddled cause Safi armor and kjar weapon combo made them so much better and are so core to it it's hard to think back how they were before them
mm, that's also true
they scaled very well because of the uniqueness of kulve taroth
Yee
Also then coupled with health on hit augment they feel so amazing but that's like basically the one true end build
I still don't have all kjar DBs
Tbh tho I got dragon and ice and I swear 100% of all endgame monsters are like weak to either one of them
's about all you need
Ooh, wonder if we'll get new types of mixed-element DB
Well if we're looking at Alatreon and Fatalis
iirc something is stronger in endgame than kjarr
Fatalis DB can be, but that's more of a Raw thing
And it'll get extended with that one skill that lets powered up weapons stay powered up longer
For dual blades i really dont think so. I guess you could maybe do like alatreon DBs with silver rathalos armor but
or fatalis i guess ye
Hopefully we'll see some way to get more utility skills with the new skill system since weapons and armor are getting their own pools
?
I'm looking forward to working in Focus
god it hurts how shitty kjar sharpness is
Their own pools?
Weapons are getting the offensive skills
In the Beta the Hope weapons had speed sharpening
It's gonna be like that
Weapons get offense skills, armor gets defense skills
okay, i had this idea recently bc of Viper Tobi-Kadachi and i very much have a personal bias but consider: dual-element switch axes
one element on the weapon itself, the other one on the phial
it would be so cool
Though we lack full details, so it's possible it could be fluid or limited
I pray we're not doing Charm RNG again but I know something of the sort will be there orz
mushroomancer
I'll take Charm RNG over Gem RNG
i fuck with mushroomancer hard
I liked the Statuselemental mixed DBs
10 dash juices and 10 extra max potions fuck
i perfered gems cause of the melding
ehh, you don't really need em
with weapons drawn my dmg profile ends up looking like this
it's extra juggling
Mushroomancers stay in the clouds
I believe Wilds has gem drops again
though unclear if there will be gems you can't craft again
it's p generous per hunt already
THAT'S A MODDIN'
thats true. i could swap em out for more stuff hmm
finding okay charms is rarely (but not never) an issue
Rise refuses to give me any Gunner charms
is rancid beyond any reasonable level of grind
'You spent money on this'
I could cut out the mushroommancer to get crit eye 7 again and then also cut the tenderizer since i dont need them if i just have native 100% affinity
at le4ast in world you could just scarifice some garbage to make gems you wanted
No one in my GU group got any crazy charms yet. I managed to snag a +10 item prolonger charm and never changed.
I hope its not a pain in Wilds
tenderizing is important in MR anyway just off the % damage bonus
so i'd try to get 100% with tenderizer vs crit eye
since it scales to 100% faster
giving you more slots
I just modded myself a good but legal charm in Wilds Rise and ignored them for the rest of the game
could not be bothered to deal with that
hmm true. ok one sec, revamping
i think my current one is actully very good
i wish i could give my friends some charms
one thing they coudl have done it mitgate it is have buyable empty charms
they are empty but have a ton of slots
but in a way your geting less value then if you got them via rng
they should've just let you fuse charms together to create a fucked up frankencharm
also since i use critical element i only wanna weakpoint punch anyway
that still makes a "legal" variant
i'm looking forward to getting to the MR endgame in World. already there's so much more room for buildcrafting than there was in HR
i like putting things together, it's why i have 200+ hours of playtime in AC6
Ok i got 1 more level of agitator, evade window and attack boost in
while drawn i have native 70% affinity which is 100% on weakspot with tend 2. I could theoratically cut out the 2 crit eyes aswell since with agitator i would also be at the needed threshold, but it would weaken the damage of a clutch claw bonk, like very slightly (at 90% affinty)
I am gonna go full health steal with recovery 2 plus healthsteal augment and safi armor
thought: what if Rise's rampage skills were a test of Wilds' weapon skills?
Give me the oils Capcom
WE WANT OIL AGAIN.
I didn't remember until a few weeks ago that if you use mind's eye oil while chaos oil is active, you will fully sharpen your weapons
Which is the sickest use ever in my opinion
There will be a whole area with oil, what more do you want

MR quest to get sns oils back in the DLC that's just "kill 50 rompopolo, starting now"
And you KNOW every mf would be hunting those rompopolos like they owe them money
There would be several forums dedicated to the optimization of the task and you know it
if you want oil so bad, get out there and dye your blade in it
If you want oil so bad, go out and fight a hyper gold rathian and a hyper silver rathalos at the same time
If thats what It takes
SnS being the only weapon to keep and use parts of old mechanics would be both hilarious and fitting

Little friend 🥺
lmao
my partner's getting started in World
i texted them letting them know i'm ready to jump in whenever, they text me back saying they're still in character creation and will be a while
20 minutes later they text me again: "oh no. there's palico settings too."
THE FOOL
Running through rise with my friends and they're starting to get annoyed that I get a plate every single quest I could feasibly gain one
I don't even need them 😅
But I have so many
Gems though
Can't get those
Ever
dual blades are funnn
spinn
oh nice, good luck can give extra essences
which can give me absolutely nothing on my qurious crafting
i do think i need to get burst tho
it seems useful for db? especially with the drill
burst is especially good with dbs, yes
I live the mh wild bow
