canonically deconfirmed
the black dragons are all related taxonomically
it's why you've got gogmazios
who is an elder dragon that is black
but isn't labeled as a "Black Dragon" in its title
it's the giant halberd dragon instead
Gogmazios my beloved
gogmazios fucks yeah
I haven't looked at the wilds leaks, so I'm just hoping that it comes back
in the oilwell basin
Wonder if we get a new black dragon
I hope not
Giant Halberd Dragon is also a sick title
yeah
I just wish for escaton to never return
this is also what frustrated me about like
Escaton Judgement moment
the fandom calling "black dragon" a special super-S class
on threat level
it's not
it just refers to the related literally black dragons
Man I would love more non elder endgame monsters and less (generic) elders in general
you can bet your ass dalamadur, gogmazios, zorah magdaros, and safijiva are all just as high up on that "if this remains unsolved it is a civilizational threat" list
although zorah is like...extremely passive, probably because it was an old fart trying to die
but it and dalamadur are big enough to just accidentally destroy a city by moving
dalamadur my beloved...
and beloathed
really hope we get a new cool dala fight
Wondering how big the damage of a dalamadur roar actually would be
Given its size, a Dalamadur roar would likely just be a sonic blast rather than a true monster roar
Think some shit like Krakatoa
Like, it wouldn't even sound like the roar of a monster, it'd just be one big explosion that liquefies your organs if you're too close
I am genuinely wondering if we could get Valstrax in wilds or of its to out there for it
Fatalis vs Dalamadur, a partially controversial topic in the VS department, along side Shara vs Gaisma and such...
Despite the Monster Hunter community pulling on both extremes in this match-up, I take it that they'd actually be more closely tied, even matched by their own powers and strengths. If anything, they could both kill the other fairly...
Dalamadur just roaring should qualify as a natural disaster
Dalamadur my beloved
But what about a sneeze
Regular volcano explosion
You know that one video ofa guy sneezing and it fucking explodes?
Like that
...wish they hadn't nerfed flash pods into the ground in Iceborne
Just makes rathalos that much more of an annoying shit to fight
having 13 flashbangs made almost every HR monster nonexistent tbf
once you learned that they worked
it was extremely necessary to stop the game from just being "i spam flashbangs and don't actually play monhun"
It was overpowered before but now it just feels like you get shafted fighting flying monsters
idk, three flashes is usually plenty
Unless you're specifically playing as a ranged user or insect glaive
I wonder how different a lack of bouncing will make flying enemies with the IG
Gonna miss chasing them down
What was the nerf?
in LR/HR monsters didn't gain flashbang resistance ever
First flash works fine, second doesn't ground them, and after that just throw your flash pods in the garbage
Oh god
and flashbang every monster 13 times and they never got to play
in MR you only get 3
second and third only down and blind, don't stun
and this wears off after...five?
ten?
some number of minutes
and you can flashbang again
So that's why flashpods never seem to ground things in mr, I was wondering about that
I think it's about 10 minutes but I could be wrong, I've never looked it up and just go off gut instinct
Also you still got clutch claw to ground and to just damage aswell so it's like really fine in my opinion
Yeh
...I'm mostly just glad it's not like old gens where rathalos would just fly circles for ages
there are reasons why the flashbang nerfs were possible, yeah
fliers ground themselves quite a bit more consistently
Also we can drop boulders and strangely net-like trees and whatall on them now
Slinger opened up a lot
they shoudl be buffed againist kushala
kushala needs an extra way to ground it, possibly by doing something to clear tornadoes
but i also just don't want to see it ever again
I'm tired of the gen 1-2 EDs everywhere
gimme exclusively new ones
Yeaaah, I wouldn't mind skipping a generation with them
Cut em down
i wouldnt mind it if kushla was removed from every monster hunter game ever
Teostra was a fun introduction to blast n whatall but enough. though do like his kittyface
i like teostra
Kushala is fucking wretched and I'll be glad to not see it in Wilds
And if I do I pray to whatever god is listening it'll be the Rise kushala and not World's miserable fucking slogfest
Kushala Daora a premium hater
What's rise kushala like?
Haven't fought it enough to remember but not particularly fun i don't think
Less shit Amatsu
At least i think so
Not Great but better than World
Namely in that it doesn't have a Fuck You sized wind barrier that constantly staggers the shit out of you
Fucking hate how some of these mechanics are just our characters being inexplicably incompetent
Like, dude, fucking STOP pawing around on the ground, a monster shook it a little
And stop acting like someone threw a fistful of razors and needles at you, you just got buffeted by wind
Chrissakes
they threw away evyerhting form world and make something better
Does MR kushala have any notable gear, or can I safely ignore it in Iceborne?
Depends on what you want
Just ignore it, you'll replace it with Safi kit anyway
...that's one issue I take with World, is just
How oppressively strict the meta is
"If you're not using Raging Brachy Agitator Secret + Teostra Master's Touch + Blast, why the fuck not, go put that shit on"
At least in Rise there's a couple avenues you can take towards a good build
Frenzy, hellfire cloak, dragon conversion
Hopefully the new skill set up in Wild's also helps and makes some skills more viable since they don't overlap as much
even if kushla was 3 times better then the best gear i nthe game i would not farm it
desire sensor real
not a single Nergigante gem to be seen
meanwhile i've gotten no less than five (5) Xeno'jiva gems
i'm literally having a harder time getting Xeno horns than gems
Lmao they got the fucking Berserk pose, that's great
I have finally gotten my salary and now Rise + Sunbreak Deluxe are now mine!
Congrats!
I hope you have a lot of fun
i never bothered to do a lot of post game stuff becuase i Did Not Like sunbreaks postgame
(uiggggh, rolling for random armor skills whhhhy)
Now I shall leave my PC (to go get milk) to fix up my car while I wait for this shit to download.
I hope so too
The one great thing about being on pc is at least you can avoid the charm grind
Donāt worry, after it downloads itāll take another half hour for it to get the shaders working š
and just cheat in a proper "legit" charm
(As in, it's not actually a fake charm that's impossible, you just bypassed the rng)
Fatalis down!
With a lot of help, god i am not very good at this fight
i promptly carved two evil eyes off it <.<
Opening gambit
Sneaking mantle, use that first before you go down.
Get heavy arti skills, prepare cannons aim first cannon right at Fatty and aim the other cannon at the other one as usually he charges. That should quickly throw down some damage.
Two full cannons usually makes him fall over. Tenderize his head or chest then fight as normal, if he doesn't get enraged then go for a wall bang fast.
After that farcaster out to switch out the heavy arti and sneaky mantle for your preferred loadout.
Uh, wall slams and landing tcs's to the chest/skull? >.>
It's how i did it.
I basically just kinda brute forced it tbh
Got good enough to not instnatly cart and beat his head in
Managed to do some basics with Rise and already I am liking what I can do with my controller.
Gotta get used to the wirebug inputs tho.
Figured out how to do wirebug skills and aerial shelling too.
I just need to find out how to get Blast Dash
Crafting/upgrading 8 different gunlances I believe
So something I will do eventually. Aight then.

At least you're not dual blade, where most of hte best tech is locked behind high rank or even master rank ;.;
Oooficus
That is oof
I might post me chara here later, most preferrably at her first Rise Hunt. (Back to Basics does not count)
GFDI.
two proper kills of fatlias now
and i have eveerythign i need ofr his armor
i have his black blade made
except
except
Cortexs
SO.
MANY
CORTEXS
Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii WILDS SPOILEERS DO NOT LOOK IF YOU DONT WANT A (possible) MONSTER SPOILER ||They found Negi's armor in the demo files!||
||there's a lot of leftover world stuff in those thumbnail files, I think, including that helmet. The weapons, for instance, have a lot of gear from random monsters that aren't consistent across all the different weapon types and are identical to their world designs. I figure they are just leftover placeholders, which isn't really uncommon unfortunately. There's definitely peaks at some of the new stuff though, like the Ajarakan armor.||
Yeah, this is why the possible clause
Yaay, via cat shennagins, i ahve the rest of the cortexs
Fatalis gear get.
Now you too can be possesed by complete and utter hatred and become MonHun Satan one day!
sniff
It's beautiful.
4 piece fatalis, 1 piece frostfang barioth, so i evne have Punishign Draw for helping out with the odd ko.
question, How solo'able are the later stages of MH world?
really feeling like i've hit a wall right before the end of the game
what part are you at?
the only things (im aware of) that i've not hunted are safi, Alatraeon, fatalis and kulve
i've tried to hunt alatraeon
so, so so many times
Safi has been tuned so it can theoretically be soloed, but looking for a lobby is going to be faster
Kulve has the MR Quest which is easily soloable
Alatreon and Fatalis similarly can be soloed but they are always hard fights
every time i've looked i get an online session with , maybe if im lucky 2 other people
Still faster since the Hub quest meter is filled faster the more quests get done
i've never even made it past the recon mission for safi
but it is doable?
everywhere i've looked in terms of guides for alatraeon
its safi armour and kulve element weapons
so it feels like doing those 2 is my only real path foward
Wait you mean the tutorial quest that you almost have to solo?
the recon quest you go to from the gathering hub
"safi jiva recon"
above the kulve siege option
If KT is Gathering Hub quest then you have to wait until Safi is the Gathering Hub quest to farm it to begin with
Okay, that means you can't farm Safi this week anyway
wait so that mission doesnt even get you any drops?
It's there so you can learn/refresh on the Safi mechanics
ohhh
Mandatory wounds, exploding ground, environmental traps, Safi's energy recharge
There will be a Safi'jiva Siege instead of Kulve Taroth when it's Safi time
gotcha
For now though you can do the Kulve Taroth MR quest under the Event tab
And you can use MR KT parts to acquire weapons at the melder and then upgrade them to MR at the Smithy
from what i can tell, to get the recomended gear for alatraeon i need to hunt , an arch tempered kulve?
Yeah the MR quest doesn't drop the weapons, hence why I said you use the MR materials at the Melder
They can meld the weapons IIRC
Then with the HR weapons you can upgrade them into MR at the Smithy with the same materials
oh so thats what it means when it says awakening alchemy on the wiki i assume
Pretty much
BTW what weapon do you main or are planning to use on KT?
i've been using dual blades
Then you should be aware that KT's main elemental weakness changes
Starts as Thunder, changes to Ice
tbh odds are i was going to go in with blast dual blades
Dual Blades are usually better at element due to attack speed
so, looking at it,
I should go in with water dual blades if i can?
since thats a weakness it always has?
You can use a Farcaster to return to camp and change gear between phases
oh worm?
It's why you can only carry one at a time
luckily i've already got what i think are decent ice dual blades
just need to get a pair of good thunder dual blades then
You may need to farm Kirin then
im going to assume i should be going for high crit rate, elemental crit?
At least until you can roll up the Kjarr ones (KT weaps) at the Melder
Pretty much yeah
Part of why the Kjarr weapons are best at element is that they have Elemental Crit built in
oh
and then i can also farm kulve for kjar dragon
to use on safi right?
And later Fatalis, yes
oh they're good for that long?
For some elements the Kulve weapons are pretty much BiS IIRC
oh damm
Fatalis is also most weak to Dragon
okay, think i have a plan now
farm thunder dual blades>farm kulve>farm safi>kill alatraeon>kill fatalis
potentially also farm things to have a high crit rate
Pretty much
Thankfully once you have the Kjarr weapons you only need the Safi armor which is easier to farm than the weapons
No prob
why are so many dragons week to dragon
i assume because dragon (element) is called that because its used against dragon, not because it comes from dragons
Dragon is the weird element and Elder Dragons are the weird monsters
Thus Dragon beats Dragon
Just like how magic must defeat magic
Also Pokemon rules
I mean wire gives you also a million more options
btw, while i have the game open
could somebody fill me in on what some symbols next to hunts mean?
occasinally i see these symbols next to hunts i've already completed
and i havm, no idea what they mean
quests usally
The speech bubble marker means the quests unlocks Somethingā¢ļø
Based on the quest names most likely ingredients
Usuall small stuff or another quest line, or a food item
In this case, yes, food items
wouldnt they go away if i've compelted the quests?
all 4 of those quests i did like, over a year ago
are you sure you did them and talked to the people afterwards?
none there either
its not like, a problem
Its just nagging me like
"what does it mean" everytime i see em x3
I think it's just a marker for quests that had an extra benefit
is there a way to get affinty above 45%?
i'd imagine theres ways to get that higher
yes you can get up to a hundred
usually people use some combination of weakness exploit 3, critical eye, attack boost, and agitator
ahh okay
so if i get the 40% from critical eye
does it just stack with the 30% from weakness exploit to become 70%?
Yes
All affinity boosts stack additively
Yes, but it does nothing IIRC
WEx is generally very easy to get, so thats prioritised
Agitator is used a lot for being easy and a good boost as well
i've never dabbled with skills too indepth till this point
Especially also with the sheer amount of slots and skills endgame armor has, its pretty easy
oh god i hadnt even thought about decorations
I just wish I could find a Sonorous Jewel 4. Unless I choose armor specifically to have 1 slots, I feel like I'm not making a good use of space
question
im looking at agitator
why are levels 6 and 7 purple?
armor specific
ahh gotcha
some armors have set bonuses that makes them able to use higher teirs of skills
theres some events that are good for it
i was planning on hunting frost fang barrioths over and over but that works
i don't like agitator cause its based on a trigger you dont have personal contrll over
which is monsters being enraged
its better in world than rise i think cause there is ways to force it in world
i mean you sorta do
flinch shot gurantees an enrage right?
or am i misunderstanding?
i think yeah
several event quest in owrld have special rewards
like highre rates for some decorations
for lower levele stuff the greatest jagaras is amazing
Three claw attacks is what does it I think
If only MonHun had crit tiers like Warframe does
...what am I saying, things get silly enough as it is
it does have crit power
? I'm talking about Warframe's mechanic where going over 100% critical chance gives you a chance to do even more critical damage
Guaranteed critical + chance of critical critical, so to speak
i know but im saying there is a way to boost crits
Like the critical boost skill?
yeah
Ah, I see
I meant specifically in the context of the above conversation about whether there's a benefit to going over 100% affinity--i was citing Warframe as an example of a system where you get a benefit from going over 100% critical chance
...but I see that Sifmas even beat me to that
i remember dread being a really notable one to the point its the reason jackal was made invinciable until you down it
Yeah that tracks. Warframe gets kind of absurd with what you can achieve with the right modding
yeah a red crit slash proc would just kill jackal ignoring the shields entirely
Lord I look edgy as shit
Thatās great! Own the edginess!
first wyvernian speak literally challenge (level: impossible)
This is what you can do in the endgame of Iceborne
that
sure is a lot of skills x3
im going to assume that translates into , 100% crit rate, and higher damage crits?
among other things
Sadly, with the weapon i'm using it's only like 85% crit rate or something
(Because my weapon starts wtih -30% affinity)
But yes. High crit rate that goes higher if i'm hitting a weakspot. Crits do more damage. I do more damage point blank thansk to attack boost. I charge attacks faster. I sheathe my weapn faster. i have a lot more iframes on my dodge, i have a very high chance to take reduced damage if i get hirt
and thanks to set bonuses, i loose very little sharpness when attacking, i alaways have +100 health and stamina without having to eat, i have all the secrets for skills (unlocks extra ranks for various skills - that's why my agitator and divne boost have purple skill points)
jesus
i am
so far from that level
i think the highest crit rate i've had till now is maybe, 10
i just need to grind more decorations
then i think i'll make an attempt at kulve
Are you in LR, HR or MR?
im assuming thats low high and master rank?
yup
high MR
like
Kulve, Safi, Alatraeon and Fatalis are the only things left
its just
they're a big step up
honestly kulve was next on my hit list
hunt kulve to get dragon kjarr kulve weapons for use against safi
Fatalis armor really do be like that
Unrelated, y'all ever have hunts where it just turns into a three way battle between the local apex predators while you happen to be nearby?
Oh hey, I can finally do the greatest jagras and the tempered lavasioth quests
Halfway through iceborne š¤
I hate that. Monsters mashing, dung pod them apart, they run to the same area then enrage themselves so I can't even dung pod them....
Fairnuff! Though if you're not an lemental focused weapon, the Lightbreak (Raging Brachy) weapons are king at your level
thats what im using most of the time
im doing this all with dual blades
so for kulve, im planning on using the Kirin dual blades, and the Frost fang barrioth dual blades
Ahh
Actually, it is
IN YOUR TIME OF NEED I BRING YOU THE SACRED DOCUMENT
The official Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Dual Blades Guide & Set Compilation for Monster Hunter Gathering Hall Discord Channel. Endgame sets, instructions on how to use Dual Blades, a progression guide, and other valuable information are contained here.
Updated for Version 15.21.0 of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
@zinc pier Use it well.
what section
oh no idea
I thiunk they're safi weapon exclusive abilities
ohhh
Yeah Safi weapons can level up by infusing materials into them at the Smithy
Roll up RNG boosts like damage, affinity, element, etc.
If you use the Safi DBs yeah
It's not too hard to do so, so s dont stress
but yes, Dual BLades are like the element weapon.
With LBG being second
I lvoe them a lot, but it's often the need to keep up with element matchups that puts me off playing them
otoh when you get the hang of it, there's nothing like being a living blender
and holy shit we are eating good in Wilds.
seems i've been playing them wrong up till now then x3
Getting an innate Demon Dodge ability
because like, i've not worried about elements, or crit rates at all till now
(TLDR: We get the ability to do a perfect dodge in MHWi. If you perfect dodge, not only do you counter during the dodge - but you get a buff that gives us crazy good bonuses to element and physical damage, and makes all our dodges automatically do attacks during them)
Well, @zinc pier i suggest reading that guide in depth
the guy who wrote it knows his shit really well
Oh so like adept duel blades
i'll keep it in mind, but im not really at a point where i can benefit from it yet
at least the build suggestions section
Somewhat, yeah. IIRC, every weapon in Wilds has some sorto f Counter attack, counter block, or perfect dodge mechanic
depending on the weapon
Like Greatswrod has both the Offset attack (Counter attack) using it's X+Y attack (The rising charge slash), but can also trigger the shield clash (counter block) thanks to it's abiltiy to block
Duals just have the Perfect dodge mechanic, but the buff it gets is insane (it's like 1.3x element and 1.3x raw while it's up, the numbers are crazy)
I can't believe bow's perfect dodge refills your stamina, it's bonkers
did longsword get anything extra or just the sheathe counter
i really like that counter its high risk high reward
i have no idea, i'm not a longswrod guy
or even a longsword enby
"Thoughts:
There's probably more subtle changes that I missed to please let me know in the comments.
Spirit Charge seems extremely easy to build meter with. Disregarding the damage loss of not doing Spirit Blades or counters, it's simply just easy. Makes the weapon very accessible.
Crimson Slash seems quite excellent for anyone who wants to just play in Red without dumping meter, or has a hard time building back up. It flows very well, the damage seems respectable, intuitive directionality.
These two changes make it really new player friendly to use Long Sword and not have to interact with counters very much.
Spirit Release Slash seems very overtuned."
So... sounds like you're probably eating just fine
Long Sword may be eating too well even
it's always been the zero-risk, high-reward weapon
you're never gonna be getting "high risk" in an LS move
More since world than always
Or maybe since GU but it was way harder to parry there
and GS was higher on both
i think GU added tech but didn't make it the no-commitment max-damage instant wombo death button that world and rise did
I wouldn't say GS is no-commitment in world
Ah
i was saying GS was higher-commitment and higher power prior
I was under the impression pre-world greatsword tended to be focused around draw attacks (especially in GU)
Yeah, it did.
Post World, Tackle totally transformed things (in a good way)
Wilds is lookign to shake hthingsu p a little by making CHarge and Strong CHarge stronger, and True Charge weaker
so it's more rewarding to do the full Charge -> SC ->TCS combo
than it is to justrush to TCS
For reference, GU valor greatsword

tri (with a bit of 3u) is my biggest pre-world experience, and it was more on like...draw attacks and then short, VERY clunky to control combos
it felt like a freight train and hit like one too
God valor greatsword is absurd
yeah everything i've heard about valor style in like
most weapons
is "this shit š ±ļøusted"
Bahahahahaha.
I just tackled a Tempered FUrious rajang's spinning deathball
and then jumping wide slashed it's followup
looked badass as hell
It's really good for a lot of weapons yeah
Valor is good yeah. Not the best on HH imo though
And it's also the best style for gunlance if you ever actually want to use shelling š
i mean, it has huge damage, piles of i-frames, gives you meter, and combos into other things extremely fluidly
and a pretty generous window
Soon, you too can have a... HAT
Oh dear fucking god it's peak
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rcGNV4VC7M
It's so fucking peak
YEAH
I cannot wait to hear the Oilwell Basin's theme
i heard a banjo in the trailer
I just hope they don't somehow fumble it at the LAST possible second
i mean, even if the last third of the game is abysmal dogshit, the first two thirds are shaping up to be like
the best 200 hours of video game i've ever played
...Christ
Imagine if suddenly the plot swerved into like
"The kushalas are migrating and causing massive weather anomalies, go slay like fifty"
there are also like six new tools that we'd be able to use
to get around what made world kushala so commanding
and also unless they decide to port MR changes to basegame wilds (which the demo didn't have afaik), HR kushala crumples against 200 flashbangs
so that would suck ass but in a tedium way, not even a "so the endgame doesn't exist huh" way
genuinely do not think there's a single thing they can do to make it bad
unless the story involves like, genociding the native populace of the Forbidden Lands in a mind-bending narrative swerve
With the shit luck the world's experienced lately it's more plausible than it has any right to be
Having seen extensive story spoilers
It's okay, y'all are making up shit to get upset about
The story looks to be very good, thought out, and fun.
||and there appears to be no elders at all|| (mild spoiler on monster classification)
I think we need to check the walls
Nope.
Anyway, don't be buying trouble is my advice. Even the leaks may not be complete - there's no guarantee that what's datamined is everything
And we only have the loosest idea of the first title update from said datamines, with no indication of what will come longer term
True
Plus, like
Yoshi P.'s talked about trying to get a Bahamut crossover before
And what the fuck would Bahamut be if not an elder dragon
I was just typing - I don't really see Bahamut adapted to monhun.
But hey no, make it massive.
Dalamadur sized. Have us riding around it on our sekrits
Also this may just be the Winward Plains big monster theme rather than Ray Dau's specific theme. If you listen to the music that plays during a Chatacabra fight you can hear a few similarities.
They better put Jaggia in Wilds
Wuts jaggia
Doesn't even know the gen 3 classics smh my head
The fmeale variant of Jaggi.
Great Jaggi has been retired for a while "to give him a rest from being a punching bag" according ot hte devs
Gen 3 most likely older than me
Is jaggi jaggras?
No, Jagras and Jaggi are different
Ah
That's Jaggi, I said Jaggia
Google how old is monster hunter Tri
Ye we about the same age lmao
Yeah, i mentioend jaggia were the female version
Too bad, Soul-Rending Strike: Slash of Seven Deaths
Can I get xeno jiva as layered armor?
There we go, Alataeron down properly
Meanwhile Iām fucking up vaal hazak high rank with master rank gear
You can get every armor set as layered armor
With guiding lands?
I think so?
I cnat rember
You usally need am ix of guiding lands & the acutal mosnter stuff
crsyals from the ugiding lands temperd monsters ++ actual monster mats for mthe monster
iirc
Alkso, it's cheesing me off how many people seem to have forgotten multi equitte like bringing dusts and actually using them to help out temamates
Im always bringing dust to hard hunts
Eventually
Can't tell if the rando is the topless one or the armored one
For a Safi insect glaive, is it better to go for Sharpness Up or Power + Spirit Boost?
RNG has smiled upon me at long last
Nice
How do people feel about ruinious nergi
I personally think it was a big letdown but my expactations where also prob to high
mhw/iceborne question: for switch axe, does power prolonger affect how fast your sword gauge buildup drains, or only how long the amped state lasts?
from the world subreddit
and im assuming it does do drains as thats how it works for the longsword
NGL I'm kind of lukewarm on most 'Alternate/Upgraded Form' of monsters, so Ruinous was another 'Well, sure'
Abyssal Lagi stands out
yeah the alt versions are only intresting if they are an element shift usally
otherwise they are just Monster2
random question
can you change decorations in a tent while on a hunt?
thanks! i guess i could just test it myself--slap on my prolonger charm, throw a couple of sword hits at the training pell, and then see if there's a difference
just had a look, it doesn't seem like you can
mhm, im just wondering how to go about boosting elemental stuff
because you cant just buff element right?
you have to buff a specific element
how can you guys play with controller?
I feel like I'm way too slow for even a barioth
if most of the lemental boosts is on the weapon you can just swpa the weapon
Cool visuals when I got sent flying away to the sky and this happened #MHWilds
I think this is the closest anyone has been to it!
this looks so cool...
...your so smart thank you
What weapon are you using?
I am still a giant deviant fan
And love when they are good alts
Like acidic glavenus was sick af
Some deviants break the mold, for sure, Garuga is a whole other animal lmao
Cb
The camera
But I kinda fixed it
But now I need to relearn everything cuz I switched from mouse and keyboard and uhhh
Sooo many different things
Also what stat would you guys say is more important critical eye or part breaker?
depends on what your hunting
i would say in most cases yeah unless your fighting something where it completely doesnt matter
Hmm
is this normal or frostfang?
I want to say still part breaker, if only because barioth gets much easier with broken arms
Normal, 50 shades of white I think
need to change anything?
Youāre using charge blade right?
I think capacity boost and/or artillery would be a lot more useful than attack boost if possible
if your using ccharge blade
you want focus
fortify, fireattack, thunder, earplugs, are kinda not useful here
fortify i guess if you have absoutely nothing else
but focus is extremely important for charge blade
earplugs comes from the armor that gives me attack boost
tigrex
yeah i kinda guessed that along those lines
my take for complex weapons is you want skilsl that clean it up more then you want raw damage
Oh yeah focus definitely
raw damage is good but i think you will get more out of it with stuff like focus quick sheathe, and power prolonger
I don't have a single focus charm lmao
to keep your uptime higher
I think the jyuratodus and kestodon armor give focus?
jyr 1
glavenus alpha gives me two
ye kestodon alpha gives me 2
oof one glavenus mantle
holy
I should check to see what my charge blade set is
Whatās your helm?
man ireally cant be arsed to get all the kjar dual blades. its such a fucking pain i nthe ass
I never farmed kulve weapons
None of the weapons i used even a little bit really had super good kulve iterations
Hmm... Okay this is definitely not optimal but this is what I'm currently running (sans decorations)
The chest armor can be replaced by literally anything else (probably the rath armor since that frees up a charm slot, or the uragaan armor since that gives part breaker)
There was a good HR kulve hunting horn but it was like, barely an improvement for potentially hours of annoying grind
(I don't know why the MR jagras 2 weapons are actually good but they are)
that great jagrussy is really helpful for a while
I really enjoyed the great jagras swaxe, bunch of slots and exhaust phial is pretty nifty
How Tf do I get pure crystals?
Gotta mine them, can't remember from where though
Every where other than the elder's reach I think? But only blue ore veins
yeah, it's one of those ones with like a 3% drop chance from gathering points
sadly for DB if you wanna go full "lettsgo" mode its the only real choice
esp for going full safi
Very normal WSB placement
a featherful biped
Behold, a not-bird wyvern
I think wyvern clades have something to do with the shape of their hips?
...I'm also thinking about the various Grimalkyne tribes in World, particularly the Plunderers, and I don't know why.
we can't conclusively prove the plunderers aren't bird wyverns
not where I was going with that. More just that it would be interesting to see a story about one or more of those nations and/or the people from them.
Aye, but the focus of these games is the hunting monsters part, and sadly I don't think anything else will get much attention
i mean
if you look at like
30% of the online fandom, you'll find that's super not true
people are extremely interested in the Monster Taxonomy Bullshit
even if that's not most people
taxonomy yeah, absolutely. Anthropology even if the species being studied isn't, strictly speaking, anthropic is a bit askew of that.
Mon Hun taxonomy is very weird and interesting
it is, yes! Partially because there's been official cladograms released which aren't quite clear if they're clades or evolutionary histories, and if they're in-universe (and thus imperfect) or a perfect objective description of How Things Are.
Yeah
It was weird to me that Narga and Barioth were closely related, but Tigrex was a ways away
For what it's worth, admittedly, reality is weird sometimes.
convergent evolution is a bitch when making phylogenetic trees, ain't it
Oh, no, I meant from Capcom
ah, in that case
the fanbase just has to be loud enough about their desire for other niches
We've been begging for anything resembling lore since the first MonHun
it's part of why they've put out the lore books at all
yeah but a lot of big JP companies are like
extremely dumb and resistant to the idea that consumers know what they want
this is true
One of my favourites is that Akantor and Ukantor are flying wyverns. and it sounds werid until you pay atntetion and notice they have small vestiagl wings on their front limbs, etc
Yeah
The obvious categories to me are like: winged wyverns, Wingfoot wyverns, Raptorial Wyverns, true dragons
And then fanged beasts
Maybe saurian wyverns as well
Simians too
Given there's a weirdly high amount of primate monsters
Rajang, blagonga, congalala, bishaten, that one weirdo with a longass schnozz, the one spider monkey from Frontier
Those are fanged beasts, I think?
But you could totally divide fang beasts into simian and ursine
At this point I feel like there's enough simian monsters to qualify as their own species entirely
...tbh
I wanna see a simian monster whose gimmick is tool use
There's like
Two monsters I can remember that use tools
And neither are primates
Bishaten
projectiles are tools
True, but I mean like
Somewhat more advanced tools than "throwing fruit"
Kulu digs up rocks to beat you over the head with, athal-ka has a FUCKING MECH, but I cannot think of anything else that does anything besides beat you up
They are infact divided like that
Ursid and Primate fanged wyuverns if recall correctly
I don't think I've seen that distinction in game, but sure
Oh yeah, also fanged wyverns
That said you could also like
just put "mammals go here" in fanged wyverns
cuz., like
gammoth
I mean why call them wyverns at that point, unless all vertebrates are wyverns
Fanged Wyverns always seemed like a weird class to me though, given it comprises both obviously just big lizards like Jagras and things as obviously mammalian as wulgs
Lizard-badgers seems more accurate
fanged beasts are separate from fanged wyverns
oh I mixed up wyverns and beasts aerlier
Jagras has hair, and then there's stuff like Tobi-Kadachi with both mammilian and reptillian features.
It's also not entirely clear whether wyvern classifications are genotypic or phenotypic. If it's the former, sometimes in real life things which look very different are more closely related than things that look similar, and that can be interesting in its own way.
Fair points, and we also have Wyvernians that superficially look very much like humans but are apparently descended from wyverns rather than beasts
...tried helping someone that was soloing Safi
They fainted ONCE and immediately just left
Now I'm just irate
Wulgsx acutally have scales
They just are covered in fur too
I still find this hilarious just as it is frustrating
Yo guys
I now know what I did wrong with cb
My dumb ass basically never used impact philes
Also thx to rose and zombie for helping me yersterday
Just killed a ruiner nergigante, had some help but I did a lot on my own
I think I fought nergigante one too many times bc I was able to dodge many attacks
Oh Shit shara ishvalda
Depends, how obsessive are you?
blade weapos?
Breaking stuff with cb is sometime a bit annoying bc it takes longer or at least it feels like that
But like someone with a hammer can break it way faster
(Except tails)
i think the sword actully does extra damage to parts
its a legit way to play to power up the sword so it can't bounce anymore
and just play it like some sort of heavy sns
I know greatsword (or at least TCS) gets a big part break bonus. Not sure about other weapons.
Grr. I hate how all this information is exclusively in videos now. I found some partbreak breakdowns but I don't want to watch a video right now
my monster hunter online guide pet peeve is everyone likes to put controls in their controller they are using
instead of actions
darksouls also has this issue
There is not a ZR on my keyboard thanks guide
they could just say for example press the morph/reload button when talking about the swichaxe
or if being more general
"the weapon special action button"
could someone help me with the last white knight event quest please
I made every LS cause I was a little obsessed with filling out the whole weapon chart, so unless you have a specific build in mind or you want to Layer it there isn't really a reason other than completionism to make the Shara CB since it's outclassed by other readily available options.
Managed to get a tailcut on Safi in the first siege attempt
God bless greatsword, man
I started playing Rise again for some reason.
I keep going back and forth between Rise and World
Qurious Crafting is interesting
All the Shara Ishvalda stuff is worth getting, imo, it's all solid for going in to guiding lands/Safi/other post story content
It's also gorgeous
The weapons I mean, the armor is unfortunately mostly just for layering
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT
I FUCKING STAGGERED SAFI OUT OF HIS NUKE JUST NOW
I WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING COOLER THAN THAT
FUCK YOU SAFI YOU'RE A BORING MONSTER AND DESERVE TO TAKE THAT STAGGER
Just used the long sword for the first time in a bit, Iām not sure why I havenāt been using it itās so much fun
And landing a perfect iai spirit slash is just
Currently working on frost fang barioth armor (already got the weapon) but thx for the reply
Frostfang has some nice bits
and comes with Punish Draw built in, which is fantastic
I also love the way the weapon looks
Im def gonna make it my layered weapon
Cuz not even fatalis looks as good
What's your weapon of choice?
Charge blade
Ahh
I really like the dark metal and all
I am steadily going on Charge blade (World) > Greatsword (Rise) > Gunlance? (Wilds)
likely running Sunbreak Gunlance through my PC save, feels like a fun weapon so far
Also I really prefer controller as Iāve found out
Dodging and moving feel smoother and more natural
What does punish draw do?
it allows draw moves to have some stun damage (plus a bit of extra raw damage)
so greatsword charge swings, hammer swings (you don't need it that much tho), charged bow shots...
I'm missing a few more tho š¤
Any move that's a Draw Attack (so from sheathed) adds stun
I love Rise so much at times
Oh boy! It's time for the most nonsensical quest in the game!
God, that quest honked
Look clearly the elder dragon with massive wings can't fly over a barrier
At least the huntsman gets to be cool
the world's most creatively named character
In fairness, I don't think anyone in monster hunter got a name before rise
they did
a lot of people, in fact
you just had to weasel it out of em through quests or description text
the guildmarm's name is sophia, for reference
the excitable a-lister in world also has a name, since he shows up in an older game
he's aiden
yeah he's the ace cadet in gen 4
4 was the one i played long ago before world
I don't remember if we have his handler's name though
the names i remember are mostly Sophia (guildmarm), Aisha (guild sweetheart), and Aiden (ace cadet/excitable a-lister)
OH WAIT
LEA
her name's lea
Anyway, time to kill velkhana
AT Velk is tanky as shit and doesn't stagger from the rocks.
monhun dot txt right there
Also I almost forgot the entire velkhana arc of the dlc is basically us getting side tracked from Shara Ishvalda because we would probably all die if we didn't deal with her tbf
Very much so yeah
Though I do hate the attack where she freezes the ground right beneath you stupid unblockable attacks
So how bad do y'all think that MonHun mobile game is gonna be
lance enjoyer? i can't make out whether that's a lance or gl
but either way, i think double max evade lets you backstep out of that one?
Lance yeah
lance
Itās a very short window and for regular lance you do not want evade extender unfortunately
Isn't evade extender lance considered a surprisingly good joke build
Eh?
i used extender in rise
I swear to god I remember something about square dance lance
Evade window probably but extender kinda screws up your standard combo
ahhh
Though combo is being generous, itās three pokes followed by a hop to reset
it's considered mostly mandatory on gunlance
so i assumed it was the same on lance
because it makes your hops like
triple the distance
And with lance the short hop is very important
which matters a ton
in rise and wilds you can do a diffretn combo that dodesnt require dodge for attacks
Yeah with gunlance itās amazing because it has no other mobility options, lance has the charge and uses the short range hop to make slight adjustments
I should start using gunlance again though, itās very fun
I donāt actually know much about wilds gunlance other than you can chain two wyvernās fires together
And honestly thatās good enough for me
you also have a new combo that does like
pokes into a samus upsmash into wyvernstake into quick reload + second samus upsmash + second wyvernstake
Samus upslash
that new move gunlance has in Wilds, it's a sort of lateral burst slash thing
Ah
Why is seething bagelgoose killing me more than velkhana
š¤ what's your fire res on your armor?
Welp
and more importantly, how often do you get hit by its blooming cones
Congrats on the mantle š
Most of the deaths were admittedly from me using normal gunlance for the first time in a bit, but even after I switched back to lance it still killed me twice
Uhhh... not too often?
ahh fair
then again, Bazel punishes slow moving players, at least from my experience
God I wish I liked greatsword
I personally just go full on tank build for Gunlance. My mobility is shite but my defense is unparalleled.
I can block mostly everything.
Wilds gives you more mobility
I think I have an extremely reasonable amount of eltalite ore
Iām slowly beginning to realize normal gunlance is basically greatsword but with explosions and no tackle
i like the charge change in wilds
also normal GL require a LOT more sharpening if you wanna do your full combo
And a block that's worth a damn
Jesus Christ what was I COOKING
Evade Window on a fucking GUNLANCE?
Hopping as a dodge is better than you'd think
True, but if I was building for that I should've committed to it
True
evade window and extender 5 are considered effectively mandatory on gunlance
In other news, why does this game have an offensive guard/evade window decoration
you actually want both of those on GL

Doesn't offensive guard only last 15 seconds though?
Wouldn't that make you want to guard as much as possible?
Not really mandatory. Just play how you want to play really.
I personally don't mind being slow.
...do I...?
Plus Offensive Guard usually only procs when you just barely get a block in or land a guard point. Which is slightly weird imho.

Well that was fun, forgot vaal's downward beam attack has like three hitboxes even if you stand in place
...Jesus Christ, I forgot how fucking oppressive gunlance is
I melted Shara Ishvalda
It's oppressive because you know what you are doing. I watched some goobers try gunlance for the first time and then they complained about how bad it is when I know they're just shite at it.
Not really, because I ALWAYS use the actually fun moveset and very rarely ever poke
Gunlance is hard to learn tbh

If I played it optimally I'd no doubt be an absolute menace
I say its easy... But that's just my experience with playing gunlance ever since it was released in Freedom Unite.
Whole reason I play it is because I like "upwards slice -> overhead smash -> burst fire -> wide sweep -> quick reload -> rinse and repeat"
It IS a satisfying combo
On that note. This look decent or should I swap Capacity Up for Critical Damage?
You need capacity u- is that normal 5
Nah. Capacity is always good on Normal types
Or Elementless
It's a Safi gunlance
Probably ought to use something else since my playstyle largely revolves around burst fire
For Normal Type. Capacity is easily your best skill along
ā¬ ļø has never engaged with safi mechanics in its life
Normal is best as Slaplance and Burst Fire
Like literally is the best at Full Bursting
Oh, is it?
Good, good
My issue is
I'm not sure if Magazine will give nearly as much of a boost as Elementless or Crit Boost
Long is average at everything while being best at Charged Shelling and Wide is good at poke shell combos
And wyvernblast
The extra shell for Normal Types is a good pick, if you wish you can try to farm for other combi jewels.
Damage per shell level, for reference
...though I think wide 7 exists now so I'm not sure why it's not here
Wide 7 does exist. That do be weird
I'm still slightly salty that Fatty isn't Long 7
It would be a bit odd tbh, long doesn't care about the high raw of fatalis weapons
But also capcom why no long 7
Anyway I'm gonna go farm vaal hazak until I can get at least two pieces of its armor
...also I should probably grab a lance or something with elderseal given I'm in the elder dragon phase of MR
It's not a hugely useful skill, I think it disables kushala's wind shield a bit and that's about the most notable thing I remember it doing
Effects of Elderseal
Kirin - Removes lightning armor
Teostra & Lunastra - Reduces their flame aura level and removes their ability to use supernova
Kushala Daora - Removes wind barrier
Vaal Hazak & Blackveil Vaal Hazak - Reduces its effluvia charge
Nergigante & Ruiner Nergigante - Makes its hardened black spikes break
Xeno'jiiva - Reduces Rage-Mode duration
Velkhana - Shatters Ice armor
Safi'jiiva - Increases Energy Consumption, leading to faster draining
Definiton of "Nice to heave" basically.
I feel like it's good against Kirin especially (but Kirin isn't weak to Dragon), and then other characters I mostly don't remember it doing a ton?
So good for kirin (if you don't use lance), good for kushala daora, and maybe good for teo/lunastra?
nah
it's pretty bad against teo, luna, and vaal
dragon element itself is solid
but elderseal is a nonfactor
It's one of those "Oh, that's neat" when the aura breaks and things
but other than that...
Aye
I just did the WORST shit I think I'm ever gonna do with a gunlance
Wasn't paying attention and I accidentally blasted a teammate off a fucking cliff with my Wyvernheart
At What MR can I start doing safi siege?
He was wearing dark clothes against a dark background so like, it isn't wholly my fault, but I really need to stop using Wyvernheart EXCEPT for when the monster's slept
I feel fucking rancid
Wait so you can send your teammates flying?
Hammers have made me go wee a bunch of times and it allowed me to do a flying attack
Wait isnāt wyvernheart the HBG machine gun thing?
Not the beneficial sort of flying. It's more like the monster knocks you down kind of flying sadly.
Also yeah. Wyvernheart is the machine gun for HBG. Wyvernblast is the Gunlance one.
Eh, potato potato really, they do the same thing and are equally annoying to deal with
Ah dang
90% of the time it sends you flying out of a combo and you just get furious
Yesterday a monster interrupted my saed
Was it Mr. Icon?
Whoās mr icon?
Also. Hot take here.
As many times the bastard keeps catching me in 4k in the Coral Highlands. I genuinely enjoy Tzitzi Ya-ku as a monster.
He's so derpy.
We love that chicken in this household
Runs up, flashbangs you, your team, whatever you're fighting, and everyone else in the general vicinity, and just leaves
His funny chicken noises help make him more likeable too
Pro tip: if you see a blackvale vaal hazak out on expedition, please make sure you have even a single loadout with effluvial resist before going "nah, I'd win"
And even then! The sheer force of being hit with the effluvial waves still hurt! A lot!
Also: do not clutch counter near pools of acid when your health has been halved. You will die.
if it makes you feel any better, my no. 1 co-op sin is sending teammates flying with the swaxe's axe mode upswing
it's such a handy move! just don't, you know, stand next to me when i'm doing it
NAH, ID WIN looses all max hp instnatly
Fwiw, at least that's actually useful to do since it can lead to mount attacks
true, but i don't imagine that in the middle of their attack combo is the ideal time for that for my teammates xP
i need to pay a bit closer attention to my positioning when me and another player are both trying to cut the same tail, for instance
It... depends
Like, hoenstly, been doing a lot of multi recently
and i've been real frustrated with the amount of peeps who wont team-attack others to save them from shit
or even use dusts
What in the fuck is this wizard bullshit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_2cvi0HhKE
Due to the success of the first sideslap shortcut example, here it is shown how you can land huge damage by using the sideslap and directing it towards the target using the shortcut, allowing you to release when landing seems likely, because as we know, true GS mains always miss, but landing is infinitely more satisfying so lets do that š”
Well, it's a terrible video that doesnt explain shit š
Here is a video that actually explains the Iceborne GS tech:
Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/c5ssfa/mhwi_advanced_greatsword_aggression_guide_the/
As someone pointed out in the reddit comments after a roll your fastest shortcut to TCS is Roll---Wide Swing----Slinger Burst----TCS and not the shoulder tackle to side blow combo. Although if you need the hyper armor from the tac...
Thank you Penguin
TLDR: Tackle completely transforms how greatsword plays, and learning how to chain into and out of tackles makes greatsword dramatically more mobile and aggressive
Iceborne further added to/refined this with the Slinger Burst move, which a: Lets you reaim freely by doing it
and b: does a bunch of damage/utility on it's own
(Slinger bursting thornpods all over a mosnter's head into a TCS is never not funny, for instance, and often KOs)
Notably, takcle can also cahin into the jumping wide slash moves, which means you have aton of options,. eg the other day i tackled through one of fatalisis's nastier attacks, massively reducing my damge taken, tehn went into jumping wide slash, ducking under his hitbox while maiming him in return
My hammer friend does that a lot to me but it's really good as a db player since I can easy beyblade of it
Esp for fights like safi
DBs are really great safi backbreaker weapons
When I need 4 Diablos Chines and there's a hammer on my team
