...eh, maybe I should delete that
!wamly
OI
well maybe not unavoidable, but so many vacuum attacks into bomb
maybe i had to position on its backside more idk
i'm gonna rematch it sometime
But the fucker was so huge it felt like fighting a fucking Dark Souls boss
Narwa was better
i died on the proof of a hero phase in singleplayer and just sos flared it but then it died too quick 💀
yeah i liked narwa more
also i didn't know where the dragonator lever was
some rando pulled it and did like 3k damage
Narwa is fun as shit with an insect glaive
i'll use it as my IG testing ground
HR 93 ..
valstrax soon. ..
Valstrax is fucking awesome
oh wow the valstrax set looks sick skill wise
50 resistances at 80% health or lower?? isn’t that just halved elemental damage (but not physical i guess)
and wex 3
20 attack from resuscitate and 10% attack from dragonheart 5 under 80% hp
oh but it’s 400 base defense, probably because it’s base game
ah there’s an MR version
dragonheart's always has been valstrax's thing, though there's a Spicier version of the armor in late game Master Rank with another skill that goes well with it
people do tend to just use that other skill, Dragon Conversion with Furious instead though
oh wow, that's interesting
so much element :O
blue scroll furious sounds cool with maximum might, but with Dragon Conversion I feel like you would never swap off of red 😩
if a weapon has an element, should you prioritize damage or crit? same question for if it's a raw weapon i guess
IIRC crit is generally better than attack boost for raw weapons
So Weakness Exploit and crit boost are pretty good
Though you still want as much attack boost as you can manage without sacrificing anything essential
Element gets weirder, because I don't remember if element can crit
But elemental weapons are much better than usual in Rise IIRC
Lien hat, from the Flash of Inspiration quest
Normally no, Critical Element skill adds extra % when landing crits.

i was considering making one of the gaismagorm weapons, they have -25% crit but some dragon element, so I was wondering if I should mess around with my builds to focus on attack or crit or crit+critical element
does anyone know what this swaxe is? just saw it in a youtube vid
what game's that? looks like rise?
with the wiggler and scroll
hmm
not thunderclap
damn, i thought it might be one of the magalas, but it looks nothing like them
i swear it's not modded
looks like it's the rathsplicer
i admit, that looks nothing what i remembered silver rath weapons to be
Might be regular Rathalos Switch Axe (High Rubillion) going by the coloration
tyty
yep!
someone else also said rathsplicer, but yeah it looks a bit less silvery so it might be the high rubillion
Yeah it's just the Rathalos switch axe
my rise crashed??
goddamn
i was 1/3 through a malzeno chameleos and shageru magala hunt
man..
rip
i got em
but 1 faint this time
sad
da money maker
would've been more but alas
zamn i forgot to pong you when i got on
i’m hopping off

killed my first afflicted monster
ooooh layered armor for MR
yay
if it's the move I'm thinking of, follow the npc prompts by
- moving to a great wirebug and using it
- wiredashing in midair
- hanging in midair with... B? whatever the right button of your face buttons is
I was hanging in midair and still got nuked by it
unfortunately I don't have enough information to diagnose your tech issue here
Ohoho
I got Bloodlust and Furious on two of my armor pieces with Quirious Crafting
Gonna build myself for Bloodlust some more
Furious seems good, flat defense boost AND infinite stamina
On further introspection, Furious seems
Kinda eh
It's not bad but it only really benefits stamina intensive weapons
Like bow, or dual blades
I imagine that on either of those it's absolutely god-tier
Significantly longer Demon Mode and you can shoot more
Gonna try for another level of Bloodlust
I'm not sure about bow, but furious is generally not necessary on dual blades (if you want the comfort of infinite stamina, you generally go for Heavensent)
though, there are builds you can do that use Furious for the... Elemental Resistances?
...just kidding, it's for dragon conversion exclusively, basically, since it's cheap elemental res you can just force into more damage.
...Oh, or you could use Berserk, but Berserk is like, the opposite of "comfort"
That's... a bit of an exaggeration, since I guess you can argue that it has built in one shot protection, but it's uh.
Funky.
Jesus fucking Christ look at the size of this Velk
Lmao
got four tails from one monster
Lmao
Tbh I assume that the parts are less "this is an entire tail" and more like
"This is a section of a tail that's usable for crafting"
Explains how we can get multiple in one hunt
Or multiple in one carve
Same for like, horns and wings
You're not lugging around an entire goddamn Diablos horn, it's just pieces that you can use to craft with
4 gypceros heads
Really dig the Steel Greatsword too for some reason
All these cool flashy swords and I pick the lamest one in the game
Just gives me mad Berserk vibes
Wish it was longer though

From my Gamescom build gameplay I can confirm the range of the wyvern fire matching the cloud of fire.
The important thing to note that while Wyvern Fire is indeed LONG is not very wide and is very easy to miss monster…
new wyvernfire fucking rules
I can't watch those right now but do we know shelling types on the gunlance?
Because in some MH games spread and distance was based on that.
not afaik
https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunlance/comments/1exsnae/from_the_capcom_german_stream_the_stats_screen/ if it's the same one as here, Normal
This move is the base for all my GS play, I see many GS mains but only very few which utilise this op shortcut, changes the playstyle completely, throw on your rocksteady mantle give it a shot !
15 second mark, did that hunter just wyvern fire twice in a row?
yeah!
dang
it would be kinda funny if it works like "there's wyvern fire and then there's special resrouce wyvern fire, they run on different cooldowns, but if you MUST put out as much DPS in the alloted time, you can use them one after another"

||GREMBLINS||
||A... cockatrice? Interesting, that's the most fantasy monster design they've added yet for a standard species||
creatures
...I know there is a strict DO NOT FUCKING PREORDER policy, but I am... tempted
i wanna pre-order though
i fucking love MHW and i really enjoyed MHR
Seems like we got our flagship!
I saw a cove. DONT DENY US LAGI
i kinda want to send it
Really do hope they don't go for a Rise style of cosmetics though
Where there were a decent chunk of cosmetics you should've been able to unlock in-game locked behind purchases
yeah
it's coming to steam
The hunt is on in Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the Monster Hunter series, now in development. Experience the pinnacle of excellence in hunting action gameplay.Planned for release in 2025.Note: Supported languages and other details to be announced at a later date.

I was about to say, I don't trust Sony to pull some headass move
it's not been a sony exclusive for quite a while, and there's no indication of it going back
They said there would be cross play at launch also
Yeah I'm just paranoid and stupid
once bitten, and such?
I guess
Know what I hope for most, though
I hope they have an option for the Surge Combo attacks
Them shits is FUN
||fishing|| confirmed
is that not expected to be kept?
I just thought it was funny to spoiler tag it, tbh
ah
I might just keep reusing my old MonHun World character
Headcanon some bullshit of "The fights with Xeno'jiiva and Safi'jiiva doused him in so much bioenergy he's effectively immortal and now serves as the Guild's ace up their sleeve"
Which is pretty self indulgent but like
Man's killed MULTIPLE legends up to this point
Kushala, Teostra, Lunastra, Kirin, Vaal, Velkhana, Shara, Xeno, Safi, Narwa, Ibushi, Valstrax
Fucking Fatalis itself
THE "Big Bad Scary World Ender"
At that point he's just the go to for "Shit's fucked, send in that old fucker from Kamura"
i have a monhun char i use for every game
Hemmia
is her name
absolutely legendary at this point since she's sweeped everything in World except Fatalis and most things in Rise
Oh hell yeah these new monsters are fantastic
Also ||really enjoy how they didn't make the cockatrice-like monster a bird wyvern, instead making it a brute wyvern||
...why tho
Also is it just me or does the ||White Wraith have fucking chain whips in its wings?!||
It does, and I wonder if it's perhaps a callback to that one Frontier monster
||Berukyurosu, that's the one||
There was bird wyvern hypnocatrice already as well
Hm
MonHun on KB+M seems
Surprisingly manageable?
I thought it would be some OSU hell of constantly having to input combos on my keyboard but I seem to be able to do most everything attack-related with my mouse
I play only on kb+m ye
The most annoying thing is all helps and guides are in controller input
I'll probably stick to greatsword for now while I get used to shit
stares at "cosmetic DLC pack" at the bottom
Wamly I have bad news :(
I mean like
Where a good chunk of the cosmetics they were selling should've just been unlockables
Or were split among like five different DLCs for each piece
Yeeeaaaaa
It's not even that each one is expensive cause they're like, a buck fifty at most for layered armors, it's just weird and annoying
I'm hoping the armor is (if the trailers are anything to go by) less grounded than MHW so I have less urge to customize
The armors in Rise were awesome
World was.. mostly bland
Yeah
World felt too constrained
Especially with weapons
Half of them were just "X base weapon with bits of Y monster taped onto it"
I can think of so many bone weapons that suffered from that
It was too common
I think metal faired a little better, but additions to that tree were also way rarer in my experience
they massacred my boy... (glavenus)
God
The glavenus weapons were done so dirty
The longsword and greatsword ESPECIALLY
Greatsword was RIGHT THERE, they could've made it the blade-tail with a handle
Same for Longsword
Then they just... made em alloy weapons with shit taped to em
At least the charge blade looks good
Glavenus tail greatsword would’ve been so raw,,,
For real
And they fucking BUTCHERED IT
They used the UGLIEST greatsword for it and just taped some random shit onto it
I'm so fucking salty about it
...honestly, glavenus in iceborne generally has solidified my opinion that I'd generally much prefer new monsters built from the ground up to fit the combat style of the specific game than bringing back old favorites
...i'll be honest, the thing I actually wanted to say was "I really don't want to see astalos and mizutsune in a world style game"
Meanwhile, poor Gammoth is waiting to be added to a game that isn't Gen/GenU
Oh Christ
Mizu would've been AWFUL to fight in World
like there are absolutely monsters that can work in either style, there are just ones that you'd have to strip away a lot of their identity to properly do that
I'm currently making an article on my site about my thoughts on each of the newly revealed monsters and while in the process of working on Lala Barina's alt text, I just noticed how wasp-like its face is. The mandibles, the somewhat angular compound eyes, and the three ocelli arranged in a triangle on its forehead, I already liked this monster but these details have certainly elevated my opinion of it
Do y'all have any advice on getting used to playing Monstie Hunter on KB+M
Well, for me, I got around using mechanics like the guard + special attacks by binding the buttons to something underneath the WASD keys
like C or Z
or even X
also you really want to make sure your sensitivity is high enough to move your camera around
You're playing World or Rise, right?
who up getting flamed by espinas
Hello everyone! I hope you are having a nice day!
I finally realized this early breakdown about the Long Sword in MHWilds based on what I tested at Gamescom, the countless of gameplay footage we saw during such events and other Content Creators and LS mains!
This video would have not be possible without the help of:
・Nightside, also knows as Ph...
Gore VPet
Oh shit there's also a Mizu one...
Next you're going to tell me there's a Nerscylla/Rakna-Kadaki one in the works
hbg is pretty fun
gonna try to make the gore magala one, but chaotic gore magala messed me up
Smol
God I hope we can keep endemic life pets in Wilds
That was one of my favorite parts of World
Alongside customizing my Iceborne house
That shit was FUN
same
The Iceborne house system is so good, honestly
Only thing that would've made it better would've been if we could customize the floor plan as well
I hope they have something similar in Wilds
would be really nice
...god, after Iceborne, Rise's rooms just felt like such a letdown
Can't customize diddly besides the poster, the photos on the walls, and the stuff on your shelves
Oh, apparently there was a capture net in the trailer, so we WILL be getting capturable endemic life!
What I'm REALLY hoping and praying for is this, though
that would be fucked up good
Fr
behemoth was hell for me already i don't want to fight an ACTUAL GOD
elder dragons are worshipped as gods yes but they are just animals i don't feel like getting the shit kicked out of me by THAT
Idk, I feel it'd be worth it for the sheer spectacle alone
It would undoubtedly be Actual Hell, but godDAMN would it put even Shara Ishvalda to shame
the only dragon i have yet to kill is Fatalis
so in all my hubris
bring it the fuck on
i will kill it
no amount of "Proof Of A Hero" is going to get me through the experience of fighting a god with a couple of axes
I will kill God with a toothpick and a dinner plate, bring it on
isn't Bahamut the guy who sent Final Fantasy XIV into A Realm Rebvorn
Yeah
He's like
THE Biggest Bad in 14
But also the Biggest Good Guy because he got rid of the old shitty ff14 and ushered in the new and better one
...fuck
I still need to set up my account for 14
Fuck it, doing that now
oh no i am going to |}!3 (not censorship, just imagine hearing it said through a really glitchy speaker)
how long until we get a "barrel only" run with the person doing it making their character look like ol' DK himself?
I'm predicting a Backlogs run within the month
The Firebomb Academy must spread its teachings
Do y'all have any recommended keyboard bindings for Rise
ALCHEMY SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
Arkveld is easily my new favorite mainline flagship, design really goes insanely hard like holy moly Its like a Wampa mixed with a Brute from halo mixed with gore magala bits while simultaneously having the whips and thunderous ferocity of Berukyurosu from MHFZ its just so SO peak. I LOVE THIS THING!!!!! I WANNA GET A FIGURINE LIKE MY GOD ITS SO...
Helicopter rotor sound effect
What charge blade do y'all think would look best with this fit?
Thinking the Kushala CB but I'm not sure
Hmm
Perhaps
...oh wait you mean you're on the strugglebus with Chaotic Gore
Want me to lend a hand later?
i'm so happy that they brought back the gimmick of its weapons in a game where inflicting frenzy on yourself is actually a good idea
if i'm still on sure
Ditto, it's really fun
Encourages a really aggressive play style
idk how to inflict frenzy on myself, i think there's an armor set tho
You need the Bloodlust skill
need 1 more gore magala sensor to make the hbg
Just one level will have you set but additional levels are ideal
then i can make the shagaru or farm chaotic guy for the thingy to make the chaotic weapon
i see
i'm dying so fast
weh
I'd wait and make the Velkhana one if I were you
Has a better spread of ammo and higher damage
The Gore LBG is fun tho
i was gonna add maximum might 2 to my LS build but it would mean losing WW3
wehhhh
alright
velkhana sometime this weekend
then i'll take a longer break cuz i'm gonna be busy in the coming weeks
😔
Monster Hunter is crossing over with Transformers for a brand new action figure from Tomy: Rathalos Prime. This robotic figure of the iconic Rathalos monster can transform into a new variant of Optimus Prime.

the Hunting Horn page shows one melody as "Echo Wave (Blunt)" which might imply other damage types are available??
I was right! the demo confirmed, blunt, slicingg, elemental and status echo waves are available, depending on the horn
ALMA WILL GIVE A WEAPON PERSONALITY QUIZ!
Imagine not getting your main weapon after taking this quiz- https://t.co/2BFAS7sR8Q
About as subtle as all those 'which character are you' quizzes back in y'olden days
yeah, but at least it maps directly to a weapon and doesn't lock you in on whatever you end up with (see Pokemon Mystery Dungeon)
:O
maybe i'll use this with the chaotic hbg
but yeah i could also make the velkhana one
Animal Crossing did this with 3,000$ haircuts and used euphemism for color choice

THE RETURN OF THE MF KING
Popped back into World for a moment
I already miss my MR Bazel armor
Give me back my glorious cape and lion pauldron...
Rise really did knock it outta the park with the MR Bazel armor chestpiece, though, it's SO good looking
Oh, I started Iceborn yesterday. My gear situation on this save is kind of dire 😅 and hunting beotodus felt very yakkety sax (appropriately for hunting horn)
Is the idea that you go straight through Iceborne from MR1, or should I detour through MR basegame areas? (It's my first time playing through MR in any game)
I'd do the latter, you're going to need the armor to progress. I don't remember if there's stuff better than Beotodus armor at MR1 but you might as well look for it
That and weapons
You need the weapons more than anything for MR
Mhm, I've got a progression guide that I trust for the weapons...although it defaults to Defender stuff in a way that seems kind of boring.
I need a second opinion. Sunbreak or Iceborne? I can really only swing one right now.
best unbiased advice I can give is "did you prefer the base game fighting style of world or rise better" since they are both "the base game but more"
world does let you use the clutch claw sans dlc, so you could possibly get an idea from that, and sunbreak also expands on the switch skill/wirebug systems in ways that aren't too distinct from the base
are you looking for a "pick up and play, just go fight the monster" experience, or are you more into the whole tracking/ecology loop stuff?
It's also looking like Wilds will take after World, whatever that does to your personal calculus
Defender gear is basically intentionally slightly overpowered, so that you can get through the content faster
yeah, it's essentially for speedrunning LR and HR so you can get to Iceborne
nice, nice
they are not ready for my one thousand outfits
I say Iceborne tbh
Sunbreak is very good but you'll get more out of Iceborne ultimately
"more" is really subjective there
True
ooooh
very nice
i made some pieces velkhana layered armor, it looks ok and has some clipping issues with weapons but i've been wearing mizu for forever
wanted to switch it up
the secret is autism

i should take off my layered armor, I haven't really seen my actual armor since High Rank
the mizu pajama vibes are really nice

and the MR version looks less sleepy clothes-y which would be a nice change
but maybe I'll start trying to put outfits together now that i've killed most monsters

the mr one is like a funky feudal japan lookin outfit
what armor is this?
rajang chest, hunter arms, kamurai waist (deluxe edition item I think), hunter legs

really though you can just build whatever fits around the rajang chest
I find pieces of armour that I like and then build an outfit around them
yeah I think so

the picture is a few years old
How does one mod Rise?
Wanted to get a mod that'll make a weapon look like my beloved Wyvern Ignition
pretty simple, download mods off the nexus and use fluffy's mod manager
Simpler than World, it seems
i've been reading that capcom doesn't really care about mods or have any anti-cheat? (unless you're doing game breaking mp stuff or smth idk)
the yamato mod would be cool but i'm loath to mod any of my steam family's copies of games due to both accounts getting slapped with penalties if the borrower gets banned or something (I should read up on that), but also idk if modding is worth spending 25 maple bucks... but eventually i'd probably want my own version of the game lol
LOL
yeah astera is very cool in that aspect, but i get lost a bit or take a minute to get to where i want to go
no fast travel 😔

I want to feel like a rat in a maze. Not a rat in a tube.
🗣️
Oh also I like snow
seliana has grandma cat
This monster is pain...
I Hope you enjoyed my video!

woag..
Biggish Rise monster spoiler ^
Nice
when my hunter yells "here it comes", i should probably run
the problem with this is that i have two groups of friends who will run both games with me
tho so far, i'm leaning more towards Iceborne cuz that's A)a lil older and B) cheaper
very much so
😔
that's 2 triple carts to this event velkhana
idk if it's tougher than the urgent quest one
i'll go try that one
LS and HH
considering these 2 as upgrades
i'm sitting at ab4 but my gloves have 2 levels, but i want to upgrade them
hmm
i can just make malzeno gloves
gimme a sec wamly
i should also probably do the dango sidequests

and c: better
@hollow comet right, I'm back now, sorry I had to leave so abruptly

Can y’all help me figure something out? I’m trying to choose between either getting MHGU or risebreak on switch and I’m not entirely sure what the pros and cons of them are (I’m aware I could look it up but I trust the opinions of people in this server more ngl)
(For context I’ve only played world as far as monster hunter games go)
it's rose!!
it’s danny!!
i've only played rise and a bit of world, so i sadly can't give advice 😔
also aughh
my velkhana attempts got worse
i can't play around berserk
losing half of my health is rough
when i just want to cast a blue skill
MHGU is probably my favorite monster hunter game out of the entire franchise but the original release of it existed before world (we got the switch port of it after world for... some reason, in English, but it is very much an Older Style of game)
Both are "monster hunter as a portable game" so there's less of focus on things like "tracking the monster" as such, it's very much a "you go hunt the thing"
Because GU is older, it existed before a lot of changes they made in world for the sake of QoL:
It uses the old armor skill system where you need to hit thresholds (usually 10) for skills to do literally anything, it has the old blademaster/gunner split of armors, using potions has you stand still and flex for a little bit, the game is basically scaled up and retextured 3ds models, it doesn't have anything like a radial menu for item use
📝👀
if you can get around this, GU has A Lot in it. There's a lot of monsters, there's a lot of fun monsters
...this is also means there are a lot of shit monsters, since it's basically an anniversary title
like it's not "the fights are more likely to be shit than future games" it's "wow, they brought back a lot of old monsters, huh. can't all be winners"
I still think great maccao is the best First Hunt in the series, really
If you started in World though, rise/Sunbreak has a lot of the QoL updates they introduced there
GenU has I think the most monsters any MH game has had
because it's basically every monster up to it
(risebreak also reverted a couple of tweaks they did in world that I disliked personally, but that's not particularly relevant to the question)
What were those tweaks?
I really love both GU and Risebreak, but it mostly comes down to "how much are you willing to put up with jank to experience the Classics"
The palico system works more similarly to previous games than world did (though it looks like wilds is going to work like world's), the weapon stat display isn't frustratingly inflated, and there's significantly less of a focus on tracking the monster
Oh shit non inflated weapon stats?
neither gu or sunbreak have the weird weapon class multiplier
Wait how did the palico system work before world?
you get more than 1
they have different specialities, you can customize their skills and kits more
there's also the fact that risebreak brought back most of the Monsters People Really Wanted that were in GU but not world
the final story boss of GU is probably trapped forever there, but they brought back the magalas, mizutsune, astalos, seregios...
you also are probably more likely to find people to play with on sunbreak, if playing with random strangers on the internet is your style
funnily enough, both risebreak and gu have "options to change up your moveset for each weapon"
though the switch skill system is a lot more customizable
I usually play solo so meh
I really do love GU and it does still have my Favorite Hunt in the entire series...
...but also it's still more classic monster hunter, so like, you're going to have to gather mushrooms
Mmm
So what’re the different systems?
(I’m kinda leaning GU right now ngl, though the armor split sounds like a pain)
the armor split really isn't that much of a bother
it means that different versions of the same monster's armor can have different skills specialized to blademaster or gunner weapons
it also means more designs
it mostly matters if you switch between gunner and blademaster weapons
but if you don't, it doesn't affect you much
GU used the Styles and Arts system
There are 6 styles (4 in the base game, but that was on 3ds), and a pile of Hunter Arts, some generic, some unique to each weapon. Arts charge up as you attack the monster, deal damage, and do the specific gimmick of your style, granting you powerful attacks/utility moves/dodges.
Guild, the base style, doesn't have any particular tricks or weaknesses, gives you 2 slots for arts.
Striker, a simplified style that loses some moves in exchange for making bread and butter moves stronger, as well as having 3 slots for arts that charge faster than normal
Adept, a style focused on timing dodges or blocks with perfect precision to trigger special counterattacks. Only one arts slot. Also one of my favorites.
Aerial, a style that changes your dodge roll into a clunkier front flip that, upon contact with a monster, sends you flying into the air, so you can do aerial attacks without a ledge. One arts slot. Kind of gimmicky. Rather fun for some weapons regardless.
the 2 styles introduced in the master rank expansion were
Valor style, a style where sheathing your weapon is much slower, but puts you in a state where you can negate the brunt of most attacks from the front, as well as use special sheathing attacks that charge a gauge that, when full, significantly changes how the weapon works (1 slot)
Alchemy style, a style focused on support, and a weird-ass alchemy barrel that charges over time that lets you craft temporary items on the fly to buff yourself and allies?
...I'll be honest, I don't know much about alchemy style because unless you're hunting with a bunch of friends and just want to do something goofy, usually people just use one of the styles focused on like... dealing damage.
I’m not surprised yeah
These all sound fun though knowing me I’d probably stick to using like one of them for the whole game
the "meta" styles for each weapon tended to vary, though usually it varied between guild, striker, or valor, sometimes adept.
Guild style is almost always solid
I think for a few weapons Striker or Adept were arguably just better
I imagine adept is good with gunlance, lance, and charge blade
yeah, lancer users basically only used striker
Huh, weird
You’d think the weapons focused on guarding would like the one that rewards perfect guarding
I believe charge blade users did as well
most of the adept users care about perfect dodging
I do also think the popularity of Adept style was what led to the increase in counter type abilities we're seeing in Worlds and onwards
striker tended to numerically buff a staple part of the kit, and also let you use more arts so it wasn't necessarily just "a simpler style"
:O
Meanwhile, risebreak uses Switch Skills and silkbind arts, which use wirebugs
Wirebugs are... bugs that you keep with you as helpers. Some of your powerful moves use them, causing them to temporarily be unavailable until they recover, as does your wirefall recovery move, with cooldowns being based on the move you use
Switch skills give you options between certain moves on the weapon you are using. Some just toggle between 2 alternate moves or mechanics, some change up which silkbinds you use
Eventually, you unlock the ability to have 2 loadouts you can swap between on the fly. this was added in sunbreak, so I don't know if you get access to it before master rank, because uh.
i finished rise before sunbreak came out, so I don't know off the top of my head
you get the moveset switch when you start Sunbreak I believe
and a lot of the switch skills also need to be unlocked first
I think, generally speaking, even if I've spent more time playing Gen/GU and still hold it as my favorite, that most people would prefer Rise/Sunbreak?
So my default recommendation is
...buy GU literally right now it's on sale for 10 dollars what the hell
...well, usually, I'd "recommend sunbreak, but also keep an eye out for sales on gu because as an older game it goes on sale for very steep price drops"
...actually sunbreak is also on sale, huh
the monster hunter..
It’s like $10 for GU, $10 for Rise, $20 for Risebreak
gonna be taking a break from smackin monsties for a week or so, hopefully when I get back I can beat velkhana
ooh dang
like I absolutely think GU is worth playing still, but it is the game that's more likely to have fivers bounce off of it
(The sales are also on pc but I’m more interested in having a mh game on switch)
like, that's not a comment on people who started with world as it is a comment about how clunky the experience can be at times
but i think more people deserve to experience GU glavenus and ||ahtal-ka||, the final story boss of g rank...
I definitely recommend GU, I think it's probably my second favorite Monster Hunter game (first favorite is still 3U)
...also also, GU was before they made key quests entirely obvious, so you'd probably need to play with a guide open
||Wait monster hunter had giant insect monsters? What the hell capcom why doesn’t world have these||
she's still my favorite of the final story bosses in terms of both aesthetics, gameplay, and armor set skill design...
Ooh yeah, guides are always helpful. Since I'm playing the untranslated 3DS version I find guides to be helpful for that too. Gonna translate it eventually but yeah, still a great game
Same here, absolutely a magnificent monster, I remember being blown away when I first saw her.
||She has a giant mech form!?||
Yep! ||Ahtal-Neset|| if I remember right
:O
||So why are we hunting her? I mean it's monster hunter so she's probably directly responsible for an impending ecological collapse or something but how could we let something this cool die?||
That ||mech|| was made out of someone's ||castle|| that she just kind of
stole
to be fair, I also think the final title update for sunbreak's final elder dragon was also an extremely cool and fun fight but like
She's right there
Like, part of that ecology is in contrast with the final story boss of High Rank for GU, a skeleton dragon that uses bones from other monsters for special attacks using those monsters' elements and gimmicks ||it isnt' actually a skeleton dragon. it... is an elder dragon, but that's just wastebin taxon stuff||
So ||ahtal-ka|| used to use stuff in the natural environment to make a nest like that, but eventually as humanity developed, switched to that
She ||throws rusted dragonators at you!||
unfortunately they couldn't get the skeletons to work great with world's geometry
but wilds did!
leviathans, temnocerans, amphibians, and more!
Question: does monster hunter rise have insect monsters?
It had a couple Temnocerans (Rakna-Kadaki and subspecies, as well as the baby forms), but no large Neopterons
i want a new scorpion monster in wilds
I see, I see
or, shit
So rise has spiders but not insects
not even new
i want
akura vashimu
with like...a non-frontier name
because frontier names are all extremely obviously from frontier
as opposed to mainline monhun
God yeah, scorpions would fit so well in either region we've seen so far (since IRL there are scorps in both deserty areas and in tropical forests)
Or hell, a pseudoscorpion monster would be really cool as well, especially since I don't know if I've ever seen a media representation of them (they look like tiny tailless scorpions for those who don't know of them)
They inject venom through their pincers!
Definitely get that. Now I'm imagining a pseudoscorpion small monster that grabs onto large monsters to travel to new areas (real behavior of pseudoscorpions)
the lingering hopes of "wait, if we're getting kutku, is konchu also coming back"?
God Konchu are so cool looking
CW: pesudoscorpion
Ooh, that's very cool 👀
They sure are! For this hypothetical pseudoscorpion monster, small monster would probably be the most fitting category for the kinds of behavior I'd like to see most. Could even be endemic life, since having a (comparatively) massive pseudoscorpion as a room pet would certainly be cool
while on the subject of these sorts of monsters and "things in GU", I feel obligated to bring up
God yeah I miss these two
Seltas Queen is easily one of the coolest looking monsters to me and its ecology is also really cool
Something based on the ambush bug would also be neat, they're boxy-looking assassin bugs with raptorial forelimbs for those who don't know. Easily one of my favorite insects so I'm probably biased
Or something with wings based on that of the plume moths, very bizarre looking
I'd recommend rise, it's much easier to pick up and enjoy without having to deal with the significant clunkiness of old-style monster hunter or the fact that GU is a 3DS game rather than designed for switch
GU has plenty of neat monsters but so does rise, and it has a combat style that leans towards character action if that's your thing
it feels very nice and fluid to play
Don't sleep on Rise palicos
The bombers are insanely good
They have this one move called Mega Barrel Bombay that straight up will stagger anyone out of goddamn near anything
I've seen it stagger several monsters out of nuke attacks
DRG players' wet dream
So many mushrums to ping
ERRRM IT'S ACTUALLY CALLED GEOLOGIST...

I'm surprised zinogre was actually visible in the cutscene
...fucking hate how hyperaggresive everything is in Rise
Try to do anything and some fucker from the other side of the map comes barreling in wanting to kill you
you can dung pod em
the monsters which aren't the quest objective also have a much lower wyvern ride threshold so you can do a couple silkbind moves on em and ride em around
huh. Does anyone know why they removed some of the event armors from Iceborne? Artemis, etc. (granted, I'm on PC, so if I really care there's always cheat mod)
huh. feels weird when most collaboration quests are kind of indefinite
Looking it up it seems like it might’ve been a rights thing? But who really knows
Playing MHGU, early thoughts:
Lance’s guard counter is a lot slower than I’m used to, also feels weird not to be able to use it after the third thrust in a combo
Potions being a very fast heal in exchange for a long recovery animation is pretty cool
Also oh god is this gonna screw with my muscle memory when I switch between it and world
yeah i remember middle school
wow does the Witcher quest honk. I'm absolutely too rusty to finish it, and it's too much busy work for me to use it as practice. the free attack deco can kick rocks
it's better to stick to expert jewels. You'll get better value out of them in IB
Attack jewels fall off hard
I figured the jewels would get outclassed, but that's really good to know. thanks!
(now I just have to hope scrubbing out of the quest gets rid of the permanent "talk to Geralt!!" notification, or else I'm going to have to look up a mod to clear that.)
Fully kitted out in the Bagel Goose Drip
NICE
love the bazel LS
I used the Seething one in Worldborne before I got the Raging Brachy one
I used it with this JRPG ass fit
Bro lookin like the side character whose personality boils down to Plucky and Cheerful
😔
I look like that character who's the Optimist who hasn't recieved an ounce of traumatic character development
Well
Only one way to fix that
Huh, apparently wilds ||Rey Dau and Uth Duna|| have unique themes
I wasn't sure at first but I triple checked
I would hope flagship monsters would have their own themes
but poor rathalos doesn't have one 😔
Rathalos used to have a theme, no?
It did, but then it got shifted into the plains theme
i think
like its theme got downgraded to a locale theme
Last I heard it, it was part of Fatalis's world theme
and it never had anything unique ever since
oh that too
I think that's the latest use of it though
at least the theme he's most associated with is also used in Dragon God's
Fought nergigante finally and got my ass kicked but my god does that theme slap
Interviewer: Although we can carry two different weapons, the equipment on our character seems to only fit one of them. Won’t this affect the usage rate of the other weapon?
Yuya Tokuda: For this, we’ve made adjustments so that attack-related skills are equipped directly on the weapons. When you switch weapons, the skills equipped on that weapon will automatically activate. Additionally, you can adjust your skill combination with accessories to make it so that when switching weapons, the equipment will adjust to the other weapon type as well.
🤔
Sounds like some part of the charm or deco system can be applied to one weapon or the other
I'm glad they're thinking about it
oh interesting
are there limitations on which two weapons you can have or can it be anything
Any combo, including two of the same weapon type, from what I've heard
oh do we know any details about horns
are song combos back like in world or is it the simplified system from rise
There's a short weapon trailer for them
yeah but it doesn't really make it clear
there's presumably reports from people having played it at gamescom
it's back to the Worlds like system
fucking poggers
with a few new tricks
Bringing along two of the exact same weapon so I don't have to sharpen it
there's a real level of 5D chess and planning that I enjoy enormously about it
gunlance mains:
...why does crafting items have a chance to fail
Kind of want to see how exploitable bringing a sleep LBG and then swapping to GS for the wakeup is
you need to get the crafting combo books
Same reason pickaxes and bug nets are breakable: fuck you, that's why
they increase your crafting chance while in inventory

definitely grateful for some of the QoL changes in world and rise
That just sounds like tedium that everyone is better off without
there's an extremely funny quirk of that system where the meta hunter art pick for valor HBG, an extremely high damage, high risk high reward option is...
mass combiner
the thing that makes crafting better
Pfft
Gotta get that ammo
bowguns do need to re-craft a lot of ammo, so that makes sense
...wait does that mean crafting ammo also has a chance to fail?
(it's because valor HBG dumps so much ammo so quickly that you absolutely need it)
yes
for the more advanced types
Why
Video game design used to be significantly more sadistic for... reasons
wait, did the generations where recipes needed books and monsters could steal items overlap? and could monsters steal your crafting books?
yes, and yes IIRC
Monsters can steal items?
Annoying yet hilarious
most of the time you'd be crafting out of hunts and keeping your books in the chest at home anyways
it's just gunners really that need to craft on the fly
yeah you usually don't craft during a hunt much
Thank god the only gun I use is welded to the end of a giant stick
Very few can, it's not like a deviljho will swipe your stuff
I know monster stealing can't swipe things like power/armor talons, so I think it can only grab consumables?
but I'm not certain because only like 2 large monsters do it
it's Chameleos, and I think Gypceros?
maybe one or two others
Sounds like a fun gimmick then
It's not
Speaking of GU, aerial style gunlance sounds really fun
Why yes game I would like to be able to full burst whenever I want to just by dodging into a monster
god, I hope they don't bring back gypceros. or if they do, they better change the name.
's wrong with it?
think of the things that could be accomplished with multiple hunters
while not universal, most Romani consider "gypsy" a slur, so having a monster who's defined by how they steal all you shit being named for it...
I did not make that connection but that is absolutely fair
Yeah it's... not great
what's you guys' top pick for a monster you'd like to see return in wilds
Gammoth
Gammoth sweep
because I have a deep and abiding love for nergigante and I want to see his little pink tummy again
There are no wyverns, only Gammoth
Also Nerscylla, but she might be a little bit too fast for World-style combat (full disclosure: I've never played World)
"this monster is too fast", you lament, as I switch to my insect glaive and pinball off into the distance
I only lament it when they dodge my SAED
it is time for me to do some charge blade in rise I think
I did a decent amount in iceborne
I have a weird soft spot for Rakna-kadaki. I doubt we'll see her again, but I'm excited to see more arthropods.
Me too, but I'm also just a general sucker for "BEEG Spider" monsters
I didn't do much CB in rise but I do like the silkbind move that blocks while filling your phials
It's clutch. My favorite will always be Axe Hopper though just because D U N K
rakna is a pretty fun and unique fight yeah
I feel like axe hopper simplifies things a bit too much
charge blade to me should be complicated
Yeah, and honestly I get more mileage out of the super block anyways
Zorah
I would be satisfied with zorah if and only if it's an arena rather than a monster fight
like the bit where you fight nergigante on its back, or the little arenas for safi or alatreon
zorah escort quest where you're beating up monsters on its back
I personally don't want zorah back, not because that wouldn't be cool, but because I wanna see what awesome new stuff they come up with
I think zorah returning immediately would be a bit cheap
i can also agree with that happily
considering it was a huge like once in a thousand years ecological event in world
does anyone know a way to get MHW to not give me the "talk to geralt" pop-up? (other than doing the quest) mods and cheats are on the table as long as they won't break my game
the only way I know of is to just do it, I personally had the deviljho quest pop-up show every time I loaded in to the hub for like an irl year and just ignored it
The quest is a pain in the ass but you get a cool sword and shield out of it
Instead of a shield you have the Aard and Quen Witcher Signs
Which is insanely fucking badass
yeah honestly just keep trying, it's not too terrible
You also get to cast Igni as a gesture
...it... fucking sucks, but like
You can shoot fire now
It's mostly just the fact that the gear for it is... really fucking bad, mostly
Aye
You can actually rescue a Pukei Pukei and it'll give ya backup
Though you have to keep it alive for that free attack jewel
...man
I wanna fight Ancient Leshen now
It's mostly that I'm trying to get back into MHW after a long break, and it's a completely miserable slog with my skills as rusty as they are
Agh
Yeah, you should probably go off and beat the shit out of the training post a while until you've scraped the rust off
I did it once upon a time, but lost my save data, and I'd really rather play the parts of the game I like while I try to get my skills back
ignore the notif for a while
If I gotta I gotta, but it's the kind of thing that really bugs me, so I figured I'd check in case there was a completion flag I could set with cheat engine or something.
Man
I wish the Magalas had been given more story spotlight in Rise
Not even "Maybe they're why shit's fucked??? Idk man, go investigate." but like
"Oh god FUCKING dammit there's a Shagaru Magala on top of all this bullshit we've had to put up with, go deal with it so we can keep trying to figure out what the fuck is happening with these Quiro."
Yeah they sort of relegated it to a Normal-Ish encounter, I enjoy fighting 'em but kind of makes their whole deal a bit less special
is this not a second cataclysmic ecological problem
Yeah, like
Shagaru's whole deal is that its very continued existence is a threat to literally fucking everything
…huh, just learned g rank in mhgu is scaled assuming you are playing multiplayer
Well that’s gonna be interesting
yeah, that's the difference between "hub" and "village" quests back then
Okay so if I need to gather resources I need to start a quest first, alright then. I feel like half of my experience so far has been trying to get used to how pre world monster hunter games work and it's very strange
That said I finally killed my first monster so hopefully I can start doing more of that now
that's what the harvest tour quests are for, yeah.
God does valor gunlance look fun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S97ROAvWgVk
Had a lot of fun messing with this quest and also with AA Flare.
valor styles in general get Funky, to differing degrees of effectiveness
for example, dual blades gives up demon mode entirely, in exchange for... running with your weapons drawn?
again, this was back before demon mode increased running speed in general.
...ah, but if you entered valor state, you effectively get Archdemon mode.
...oh, also, that run has an invincible guard point on start-up that sharpens your weapon while in valor state.
Holy shit
hammer changes the charge attacks to a combo, so rather than one single kind of charged attack, you get a weaker attack that's a little faster to charge...
but if you start charging again immediately, you get a a stronger attack
and then a final really strong level
this was before hammer had the big bang combos, by the way.
...funnily enough, this would live on in risebreak, as the Charge Switch: Courage switch skill.
long sword gets a guard point on the first hit of the spirit attacks.
you can use this from standing or in a combo.
it's very snappy and fun to use.
(long sword didn't have the sheathing counter or the foresight slash yet)
Sorry, a guard point on spirit slash 1?
"valor spirit slash I" yeah.
the move that comes out the first time you hit R while in Valor state.
Rock-Splitting Technique: Hit It Very Hard
Side note: using long sword without foresight slash feels weird, but foresight slash is ludicrously powerful to the point that I'm retroactively shocked they actually added it to the game
something something back in my day we just had fade slash to reposition and dodge manually and we liked it
oh, I remember the kushala hbg came up for being really cool looking a while back
Could've saved some time if I hadn't let him escape but at least I still got sub 3 I guess.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/MH_Canta
...It's a pretty good example of what I was talking about when it comes to valor hbg being nutty.
notably, the Running and Sliding going on in that video isn't like, a default thing you can just do with HBG in that game, you're usually much slower, that's a Valor style thing.
well, adept gets the power run too.
for a few weapons, valor just kind of blows the other styles out of the water, but it's not every weapon that prefers it
guild and striker have a lot of hits, some weapons have adept as particularly handy
What's guild good on?
hammer and hunting horn are notably "guild is probably best" but it's second best for a lot of weapons
also of note "striker" having a "reduced moveset in exchange for power in some areas and 3 art slots" also takes up a large chunk of the weapon style meta
so it's not like "every weapon goes all in on one of the gimmick styles"
off the top of my head, lance, charge blade, switch axe, and sword and shield all like striker style, for example
...dual blades is also in a weird spot where striker is probably the strongest, but also you have to be constantly chugging mega dash juice and constantly spamming demon dance in demon mode, so you also have to be really good at hunting that specific monster.
...it just removes the demon gauge entirely and makes your demon mode/demon dances stronger, so you just go all in on that, basically.
adept is just like... literally unkillable if you are good at stamina management/are addicted to dash juice
valor is also really fun and good, just need to get used to not having a demon mode.
...dash juice in GU does give you true infinite stamina, for context.
but you in general, you can't go wrong with guild style for almost every weapon, even if one of the other styles is more popular
...except lance, I've been told by my source on all things lance that you just take striker lance and call it a day.
they did something weird to the triple poke on all other styles that make it different from basically any other monster hunter game, except on striker style, and also striker style has an incredibly broken downed monster combo consisting of spamming charge finishers, and also basically every lance hunter art is Pretty Good, so like...
yeah.
📝 👀
I've noticed striker lance seems to be more focused on all offense all the time and using hunter arts to evade attacks instead of using the shield, which is certainly interesting
I love how all of the TAs use a small barrel bomb to explode themselves out of the last item use animation, that's a fun optimization
the shield is still plenty useable against a lot of attacks, even if the absolute evasion arts are really good
just a matter of "how efficient it is to guard this attack"
since, there's only guard+1 and guard+2 in this game, and skills are a lot more sparse in general, not nearly as much gradation as post world
...you could kind of argue that having a shield makes constant offense all the time more viable since you can Just Keep Poking The Monster at all times, and just guard when it would hit you, basically.
...god fucking dammit why are so many MonHun soundtrack rips uploaded by some fuckass with a pedo name
what
what
Sometimes I remember that the MH4 opening theme was played at the Olympics
The 2020 tokyo Olympics
Hold that thought I want to know about that rip uploader
good news: I'm having a much better time in early Iceborne (Banbaro fight was smooooth)
bad news: I'm at work when I want to be thinking about Iceborne
looking at other weapons to dip into: are there any weapons that are actually not viable without decorations/extremely specific armor skills, or is that speed runner nonsense? I had a lot of fun with Bow in Rise, but I can't tell if it's actually bad until you get MR critical element, or if people are just fussy.
Also: if I want to give bowgun another shot, would light or heavy be better with garbage decorations?
that's not speedrunner nonsense, i don't know a single speedrunner that claims a weapon is unviable without specific skills
that's reddit nonsense
i will say that certain bowgun archetypes (stickies, namely) are fucking rancid obnoxious without true spare shot
(good point. god I wish it was easier to find discussion that wasn't reddit...)
but every weapon is playable
are we defining playable as "can complete hunts in roughly the same time at the same level of gear" or "can complete all hunts within the time limit"?
can complete hunts within the time limit
lance is always going to be slower than anything else
at least in world
because lance is the slow and safe weapon
and weapon dps just generally differs some
weapon isn't a massive factor, though
it's more player skill and level of gear
ah, okay. but even lance isn't barely ekeing out wins. I did my first world playthrough maining lance and I never felt egregiously slow.
(so: thanks, that makes me much more inclined to try dabbling)
You can do fine still, but Bow is definitely more deco dependent
Keep running into some fuckhead named L*li Kaiser when I go looking for MonHun OST rips
It's worht rembering that even teh optimizer stuff - Monster Hunter Meta, emaphsis that their sets are built with the asusmption of solo play and as much damage as possible
They're a fantastic starting point
but i always sacrified a damage skill or two to get some comfort on (usually evade window +5)
If it's something like MR Crit Element, it'll be a case of "YOu see a very, very dramtic peromance spike when you have this"
In Iceborne particurly, 100% Crit is very easy to achive
such taht the core of a lot of builds tended to be WEX 3/Crit boost 3/<Fill out the other 50% crtit somehow>
USualyl via the get obnuses if mosnter enraged skill
Agitator is pretty good yeah

It's ridic in Iceborne because you can keep monsters permantly enraged via wallbangs
i've got a vaccine headache so i'm sprawled out on the couch playing World
i guess at some point i became the sort of person who plays MH to relax
the skills you need for bow are con and stamina surge, everything else is gravy
Stun Resistance is majorly helpful to have in MH World (I've got Stun Reistance Lv2 at the least in Iceborne). MH World made it a lot harder/less effective to break out of stun early by mashing/stick wiggling for some reason.
Stun resist is practically mandatory unless you're good enough to not get hit
simply only fight things so deadly that if you get hit repeatedly to the point where you'd be stunned, you've already been carted, regardless of defense stat
...god I fucking hate somnacanths
Try to do anything and they just zip all the fuck everywhere
Unrelated, is Kamura's legacy worth using?
Damage seems kinda shit but 40% affinity, a level 3 slot, and a decent amount of white sharpness is enticing
So um. Apparently there’s a bunch of dlc item sets and stuff you can download for free for GU and uh.
Yeah I don’t think I’m going to need to worry about money even a single time in this entire game
It'll run out fast
Y'know what would've been neat
If Nergigante showed up in the Behemoth fight in World
Behemoth's doing its own thing being a piece of shit when all of a sudden
yeahhh it was the same for rise
I’m always in favor of nergigante getting to fuck up more elder dragons/monsters from another world
Yeh, I’ve wanted to change it for a bit and decided I might as well now that it’s spooky month
i've also brought out a new spooky month pfp. tis the season
got past Black Diablos and Nergigante today. Nergigante took three tries but i had it together by the third
my Deviljho swaxe/Handicraft/Protective Polish build quit itself well
heck yea

didn't they specifically say now new weapon already
I will keep dreaming for tonfa,,,, even if it’s not happening,,,
they've said repeatedly that there's no 15th weapon in Wilds. A recent interview mentioned that they're always discussing the possibility (read: but didn't see a window for a new weapon in Wilds)
Yeah it doesn't seem likely
Be nice to have one of the old classics back but the current roster is good
I still think a bo staff for a faster hitting stun weapon could be a good addition
Could to the inverse of the IG movement where it can push around the ground but not go airborne
So swift swings instead of spinning slashes
Insect glaive but you deal KO damage and you don’t have a cute pet
insect glaive but it's a stick bug you hit people with
and the big finisher move is stick bugging the monster
New favorite weapon in mhgu: valor greatsword
Being able to do a level 3 charge in like a second from an unsheath is really fun
(Why is valor so much fun on basically everything)
...you know what would've been fucking incredible
If Nergigante showed up during the Gaismagorm fight
His whole thing is killing shit that's going to ruin the ecosystem, and what is Gais but a walking ecological disaster?
This game is so much fun once it lets you actually fight monsters
If we can have Velkhana in Rise, Nerg isn't much further of a stretch
Honestly, I don't get why so many of those old games had a fucktillion "go collect X" quests to start
I'm here to hunt monsters, not fucking collect wyvern eggs so some shithead can make an omelette for 40
Thinking about it, the new world having an elder dragon whose entire ecological niche seems to be killing monsters of mass destruction makes sense, that’s usually a hunter’s job and there aren’t any of them in the new world
There’s a non-zero chance this was explicitly pointed out and I’ve just completely forgotten that
WHAT
fuck chargeblade i'm switching weapons
Yeah after you get the valor gauge filled you can hold x to charge up your draw attack for a lot of damage
Technically quests like that are also in world, but they’re usually delivery stuff so you can just get them while doing other things
the gang
gang gang

I love my big iron :)

nvm the wiki does have it
uhh
this might not have been updated for rise

you can look up rise hbg elemental pierce on yt
I've been playing with my friends, who are in low and high rank, but I think I should probably try and do amatsu for access to the talismans
