#Monster Hunter

whaaa
I should start playing it in MonHun language tbh
maybe i'll try jp or mh next time
upgraded my swaxe, got some unique quests done, it's a good time
Nice
wamly i didn't know you played monster hunter
Dementia
Oh goddamn, that's REAL good
The slots leave a bit to be desired but goddamn
Max level evade window AND a little Divine Blessing on top
huh??
I interacted with the little bookcase in the Elgado room and this fucking cat appeared
Wh
Little fucker's been living in my walls since day one
Man took the "I'M IN YOUR WALLS" meme too seriously
Soon the whole area'll turn into one big poison swamp!
DAMN YOU MIYAZAKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Trying to put his damned poison swamps into OTHER games now >:[
Oh, hey, they used the old Frostfang armor design for the MR Barioth armor, that's cool
Oh, apparently it's an old design
Glad they elected to use it
I eat whatever Grandma feeds me
God bless grandma
Dango will never compare to a home cooked feast from her kitchen
I don't get why they traded out massive feasts fit for kings for desserts ngl
yeah, ngl, the dango feels like a step down from the big meals of prior MH games
It's a fun idea
It's just I wish it was something that was an addition to the big feasts rather than its own thing
A man cannot sustain himself on dango alone
I guess it makes some sense? Since a single village in what is essentially Bumfuck Nowhere would be hard-pressed to make bigass feasts for their hunter.
But still
Like it makes sense that Kamura simply doesn't have the resources to give you the feasts that World has, given the Research Commission is no doubt massively funded by the Guild and supplied by Old World farms, as well as fed with the meat of whatever the multitudes of hunters go out and kill, whereas Kamura is just a village of mostly regular folks.
But we could've had something to serve as a similar if less sumptuous role
Like platters of sushi or something
...god that would've been cool, sushi chefs are unironically cool as hell and sushi prep can be made incredibly flashy
Alas.. Dango 😔
Kamura is a pretty highly developed village too, I think they'd be able to afford feasts
What really weirded me out is the elgado folks also making dango
But I guess that's a product of all the mechanics behind it
honestly i assume that in monhun world, that is where a large portion of any single village's food is going
90% of all monster hunter food is going to me
hunters are like
Built Different supersoldiers with the remnants of gene modding, although that's more passive canon than active most of the time
so feeding them an endless supply of dead chickens is like
cost of function
I always thought it was the armor and their training that gave them that ridiculous strength and durability
Like
Actively channeling the residual energies left in the hide of whatever you're wearing kind of thing
nah
well, probably that too
but Hunters are, at least in...i think it's mentioned in 1 or tri?
Hunters are just built different
the descendants of the Ancient folks
Yeah
who still have some of the genetic mods from them
my joke theory is that everything in monster hunter world is actually really tiny, and the hunter's apparently super strength and durability is just square-cube law stuff
e.g. your giants like Zorah are maybe komodo dragon size
sorry i'm busy rn, but TLDR is that the ancient human civilization (the one that made the kushala daora tower, the tech insect glaives and mechashift weapons are derived from, etc.) were highly advanced and JUICED TF UP, and while not every human has the JUICE still in them, some do
and most of those people become hunters
because, y'know, the ability to take a nuke straight from the rathalos's mouth and then get back up from a ham sandwich
most people are way closer to RL human baseline, which is why it's so impressive when someone who isn't The Village Hunter in a small town can fight off or especially kill a large monster
which is highlighted innnnn
dos?
not actually sure which game, monhun info devolves into a chimeric soup for me
Aye
Definitely info I wanna keep in mind for that MonHun/Witcher crossover I wanna write when I get the motivation for it
oh, that does sound like a fun crossover
especially bc of, uh
World
already doing the legwork
Yeah that's the entire reason I wanted to do it lmao
Write the Hunter in the Witcher setting and see where it goes
and Witcher just casually having interdimensional travel natively
The biggest thing I wanted to explore was the Hunter's difficulties with the Witcher's monsters
Ah so it's more or less a stray gene that comes up every once in a while.
Neat
Namely the supernatural ones
Yeah, sure, you can lift up a sword the size and approximate mass of a fucking fridge and take a fireball to the face with nary a scorch mark, what are you gonna do against a ghost
Hmmm
In that case, what would be the most supernatural monster in monhun?
The elder dragons
yeah, they don't dwell on it a ton, but that's very likely how it works
Even then they're only supernatural in the "we don't know what the fuck is going on with these weirdos" sense and not the "that is just straight up a ghost" sense
Yeah they're just ecological disasters that appear without much explanation
My own personal headcanon is that the elder dragons were bioengineered weapons from the precursor civilization and that's why they make zero fucking sense
I'm pretty sure that is the canon
yeah elder dragons do not comform to mundane biology or the pretenses of physics like most wyverns & beasts (oil sacs, electric bugs, etc.)
but they aren't uh
A Wizard
Or ghosts
they're still physical in the way Witcher shit doesn't need to be
nah
the ancient civ fought and used them
but the monhun world is just Like That
dragons are just around
bioenergy does some weird shit
My biggest thing is, what weapon should I make the Hunter main...
Hmm
I still won't dismiss the idea that the civ might've modified them somewhat, if you're saying they used them
Cause they'd all be outlandish and incredible in the Witcher
for maximum cultural discombobulation, switch axe, charge blade, or gunlance
Bowguns are just straight up fucking firearms, bows shoot arrows the size of javelins, longswords are the size of massive fuckoff greatswords and you swing them around like they weight nothing, greatswords are the size of fridges
oh by used them i mean things like the kushala daora tower
Charge blade would be fun
I'd add greatsword to the mix, they'd wonder how the heck you'd swing it around
Maybe insect glaive
For the shock value of throwing a gigantic fuckoff bug at someone
Big Sword is pretty standard in-setting for the witcher
you've got plenty of superhumans
between juiced people and fantasy beings
Just go THINK FAST CHUCKLENUTS and send out your hypermurder bee to maul someone
even if the scale is a bit nonstandard
it's not drastically so
for witcher's high fantasy world
Aye
We know nothing about witcher so
It's more "dang, nice sword" than "Jesus fuck how are you lifting that"
Can't say I'm surprised
I'm definitely thinking insect glaive or CB
IG's a good one, but imo the technological intricacies of the mechanical weapons are most likely to draw attention
Aye, true
"you're telling me that thing is a sword and and axe? And it explodes??"
That and the charge blade is Fucking Enormous for a sword and shield
kinsects are within the standard scope as well, being biomechanical symbiotes
although there's interesting stuff to say there too
what with the distinction between Witcher alchemy and monhun tech-alchemy
If nothing else than "I have a fucking firearm"
and their kinds of convergent evolution
bowguns and gunlances would definitely raise some eyebrows
Well Wamly
I'd say go with your gut
It doesn't necessarily have to be something that's completely out of place, you can always focus on the hunter not really getting witcher stuff
since mages have kinda stopped alchemical development from going in the direction of firearms super robustly
Like
It feels kinda unfair to rule out a weapon cause it doesn't feel out of place enough
Aye, true
imo everything has something interesting to add, whether it be through similarities or contrast
Also true
but my opinion is that the greater the overlap or contrast, the better
Personally I think the weapon you choose should reflect the vibe of the hunter's character before anything
that too
I do know I wanna use my own Rise character, who was also my World character, something about him retiring to Kamura, having to save the world AGAIN after fighting Fatalis and Xeno and Safi and fucking every other world ending threat back in the New World, and now he's been transported across realities and good GOD he's too old for this shit, he just wants to go home please god
And I do main Greatsword a lot these days
So maybe just Greatsword
Still plenty of shock value in a dude pulling up with a sword larger than he is
Arguably is also the monhun weapon
Aye
Hrmm
Kinda leaning more towards CB though, if nothing else than because it's MY favorite weapon
Fucking love CB
Eh fuggit, he brought his weird sword axe thingy
...hrm
Debating if I wanna go do some arena quests to unlock layered brigade armor or not
On the one hand, arena quests in World were Fucking Abjectly Horrible and I don't want to deal with that bullshit again
On the other,
This shit OOZES swag
epic meals are oging to be back for wilds right
yeah, we've seen the PC cooking scrumptious meats
Granted that was a campfire cookout, so we have yet to see if we get the whole show yet
struggled with GS last night, whiffed a bunch of stuff but tried out the combo that replaces charged slashes
adamant charged slash was pretty swag, my hunts only took 12 mins compared to swaxe's 10 for nargacuga, so not horrible
Y'know what I'm headcanoning as of today
That official Guild handlers are why there aren't as many "Collect X" quests as there were in previous titles
Guild saw how much their Hunters were getting sent out on fetch quest errands and decided they needed to ensure that their Hunters could
You know
Hunt monsters
Their entire fucking job
my job is to collect 5 mushrooms
I feel like world knew what it was doing with its introduction missions
Instead of the traditional “get some materials to start out” it just said “nah go kill some jagras” and then had you kill some kestodon as well before giving you a final test with your first large monster.
That could just be because I’m a fiver though.
oh that's new to world? dang
No exterm missions were around for a while, but they never really MADE you do them
They were just there, while in world they were more part of the tutorial.
Further reinforcing my belief that Handlers sifted through those "hey can you go fetch me X amount of Y" quests
I mean, there were some in world but there were definitely less
And they were basically only for getting new canteen ingredients which is always great
Yeah they always were from someone you KNEW had a very clear cut purpose
Instead of some rando going "Oh... I kinda want wyvern eggs... hey, can you go get some..."
Although just wanting someone to risk their life against giant firespewing reptiles so you can have an omelet is pretty funny and I want to see more silly reasons for quests like that
Aye, it IS amusing, it just seemed infuriating to have to do fetch quest after fetch quest after fetch quest for some nebulous reason before you FINALLY got to go fight a monster for realsies
But that’s not to say the serious reasons are bad. They have their place, and I understand that they are required
Yeah
But like. Egg stealing is usually a bit higher level, right?
It was stuff like mushrooms that they have you getting as first missions.
I played a bit of genult so I know (never finished it hit a wall I hate that giant ass boar)
tbh it's basically confirmed (not hard, but def soft)
because you see people in the field researching or fishing or farming
and both the handlers you use mention their support role and support gear every once in a while
it's such good qol, thank god, and it makes a ton of sense
because while it's more dangerous for non-hunters to go out and forage, Guild support staff, and especially the New World Expedition Fleets, are like
super competent and as well-geared as anyone can expect to be
Aye
so sending handlers, provisioners, the chef aides, etc. to do all the mushroom collecting that isn't "steal wyvern eggs or forage deep into diablos territory" is super well justified
since hoonters are for hoonting
even in a dream...
even in World full of Monsters ....
I will hunt a god and turn them into a cool outfit
...fucking hell why is Almudron so huge
Got a fucking PERFECT end of mission screencap
dang
i've been mostly using ISS
40 frames on foresight slash is crazy, it looks ridiculous in this vid
ISS is much trickier, but the payoff is huge
Foresight is definitely much more lenient
you can also counter all kinds of stuff with it
like roars
mhm! it looks great, I'll definitely work it into my arsenal a bit more
Sacred Sheathe I can't comment on because I didn't actually play any Sunbreak lmao
did not know you could do strong charged slash -> wide slash -> TCS
watching mh content on my breaks and learning a lot
Huh greatswords have a new perfect parry system?
And a whole litany of counter staggering moves I see
That’s honestly great
Reckoning is faster and i believe a bit nore damage, but harder to aim

In general I'd probably use Reckoning but try it out a but and see which one you are more comfortable
Because you can definitely whiff a Reckoning occasionally if the monster moves a bit, where Roundslash might still clip them with its wide area
gotcha!
i tried reckoning for a bit and whiffed it a lot, but I'm a bit more familiar with the game now
so I'll add it to one of my scrolls
Greatsword is all about learning how to chain is combos and abuse tackle
It can feel slow/clunky until you get the hang of it, but you can be very mobile.
I actually miss the Slinger in rise because it let you re aim and do some really fluid tricks, thankfully we get it back in wilds

this narga medulla dry streak is bugging me
just gotta keep on keepin on i guess
hmm
12 mins on dual blades, about the same as with GS
not bad for a first hunt
choppy choppy chop
Medulla is a pain in the ass to farm
tfw you hunted the wrong monster for half the quest by accident
:O
reading that it doesn't affect dual blades continuous drain tho, marathon runner does that

Is it just me or is SAED just, like
REALLY inaccurate in Rise
Feels like I either whiff it or only hit a little bit with it half the time
kinda felt the same when i tried cb for a lil
I'm not sure if it's a positioning thing or not but even if it was I swear to god there's been times where my character just turns in some random fuckass direction for... some reason
Though tbf I'm pretty sure that's just my shitty controller's drift
I'm not entirely sure if this is related to your problem, but I know that there are control settings that have an impact on weapons that need directional inputs like that, it might be set to different defaults between games/might have gotten changed at some point?
oh i thought you meant the explosions, I feel like they extend out more than world
I've had trouble turning my charged slashes with GS
especially when facing the camera, it seems to be stick direction instead of hunter direction. might check those settings out that clear just mentioned
but i'm the eeper
Maybe, where are those located?
the options menu under the start button menu, should be a setting for Directional Control Settings
under the "controls" category
also, some cursory research has suggested that at some point, CB got a buff in Rise between now and the demo that increased the turning angle you are allowed massively, but this also means that you'd have to get used to finely controlling your directional input for the SAED since the possible angle you have is so wide...
...which means that slight drift/controller misalignment could mess with you drastically
Shit, yeah, that's probably it
Oh its over? Aw man
It even played Live And Learn throughout the quest
Which game?
Rise, sorry
took down garangolm in less than 15 minutes
i'm kinda getting the hang of LS
just need to snag some critical draw
and done
sacrificed 2 levels of AB but i'm still at level 4
Fought an Astalos
Pretty fun, honestly
I got a fucking Astalos Mantle on my first try lmfao
cough boltreaver cough
magnets, magnets...
How do they work?
frontier fits
Y'know what'd be cool
Monster Hunter in a more modern setting
With like, cars and computers and such
Like, however many hundreds or thousands of years from the present setting, sapients have finally gotten around to advancing tech back to more modern levels
Hunt a Rathalos in a big bustling city, investigate Zinogre trails in a national park, deal with a Tobi-Kadachi terrorizing a suburb
But would a MonHun that far ahead look like that?
Considering what the smiths and other crafters make, would it look modern or would it look like some kind of... "hunterpunk"?
I doubt they'd make skyscrapers the way we do
They definitely wouldn't have fossil fuels the way we do
Fulgur Bugs exist
If they decide to invent a power grid they can just make bug farms
But then you run into a problem
How many do you need to run a city, and how many Zinogre do you capture to gather them all
And why stop there? If you're strong enough you can capture a Kirin, and go higher.
Aye, though to be honest
And... Well, Elder Dragon War 2, electric boogaloo
They can make lightning-imbued metal
They could 100% reverse engineer that into generators
Shoot even the fire-imbued metals, just pop some fire metal into a boiler and presto hey ho
Monster hunter in modern already exists.
God Eater (ゴッドイーター, Goddo Ītā) is a series of sci-fi action role-playing video games published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, starting with the titular game released on February 4, 2010 for the PlayStation Portable. The series depicts the desperate battle between humanity and a race of omnivorous monsters in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world. ...
This also assumes that they couldn't breed fulgurbugs
That's post-apocalypse
shrug close enough too.
Anyway go watch this video TeaCommon dropped, it fucking rules and it's what made me wonder about a modern MonHun setting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC2IEBHgqwY
*This Program has been organized & created by official members of the Guild. And it is authorized that it be shown to populations in/near rural areas and/or regions that have experienced Monster/Human conflict. Everything you will learn within this series of tapes shall aid you in being prepared against any Monsters you may encounter. As well as...
fulgurbugs are symbiotic with zinogres, but the species can both live on their own
you don't need zinogre for em
and also there's thunderbugs too
the shittier cousin
My point was where else would they get the Fulgur bugs to start or grow a farm except from Zinogres which are a gaurunteed source
I mean, the same place they would at any other point in history?
I was trying to make the point that "modern" MonHun could cause resource issues
and then they'd have the bugs
and have farms
the monhun setting is plenty environmentally-conscious already
Ya know, like our regular shitty cyberpunk dystopia society causes
so it's not like they wouldn't be doing sustainable farming
oh I see wamly already mentioned it
it's just somewhat fallacious to assume that the humans & wyverians couldn't breed fulgurbugs as normal for basically everything else
and it's in a way more eco-friendly (and eco-conscious) setting than irl
so there ain't a reason why it couldn't be solarpunk
instead of modern cyberpunk
But would it be "solarpunk" if they aren't using the sun?
Might as well call it "MonHunPunk" with how setting specific it is
...MonHunPunk farming game
Lmao
It's mostly Stardew Valley-esque gameplay but every once in a while you gotta pick up a greatsword and TCS combo a motherfucker
It's like Stardew but the combat fucking rocks
Lmao
I've actually never played Stardew
Don't worry, the combat in Stardew is basic as shit, you were right
But the real upgrade would be the ability to have all the romance partners!
There's a mod for that
Ecopunk?
Mm, maybe
Yeah, and like I said, they also have metals that straight up are imbued with electricity
ye
And a seemingly bottomless supply of it too, you can whale on a monster with a Tobi Kadachi weapon or something for hundreds of hours and it's STILL just as electric as the day you first forged it
tbh that probably has something to do with bioenergy
now that that's a canonically established thing
Yeah, true
Weird Soul Energy
Which is basically just magic by another name, really
magic soul goop
I do question what the bowguns would look like
that allows for some of the elemental stuff probably
Someone pulls a Glock and it's got little crossbow arms lmao
Yeah cause there's already bowguns that lack the bow part
instead of bow lbg hbg
Eh, there'd prolly still be bow
I'd imagine it'd go:
Heavy rifle
Punt gun/Elephant gun
Bow
Since light bowguns in MonHun are
Fucking ENORMOUS
Nah Gunlance just gets actual fucking firearm rounds and not explosive blanks
Insect glaive is
Also largely unchanged
The kinsects are all like, robo-drones now, though
It's less charming but the Guild found it was more efficient to just build drones rather than deal with the whole kinsect breeding programs
...how are kinsects produced
Are there like
Bug farms that cultivate giant murder bugs
Anyway
Dual blades are still dual blades, it's not really easy to expand on that
Like, it's two swords, what else do you want
Longsword... hm
There's an interesting one, you got any ideas topple?
hmm
actually consider for dual blades
if you're at all aware
blake the catgirl from RWBY's weapon
cqc submachine gun swords
IG probably gets to do like
drone platforms with its kinsects
Shit you right
stand on aerial platforms, maybe have 2-3 kinsects drones
that have like
micro elemental lasers or guns (depending on damage type)
True
Or like, nanomachine swarms that just straight up deconstruct monsters on a cellular level to power up
attack in concert with you, let you switch active drone on the fly, stand around, maybe be the extraction replacement
Fucking greywash swarms lmao
graywash sounds sick, yeah
could do a bunch of things
longsword...I think you could make it more of an iaijutsu/movement tech weapon?
give it like
Though graywash is entering sci fi territory
...to be fair so is like, half of MonHun's gear
an explosive sheathe and a short-ranged magnet
Have you SEEN Almudron kit
so you can launch and pull yourself to the sword
Too complex
yeah but lance players love running straight forward screaming like lunatics
A big fucking tower shield and a giant pointy stick
so you give them more drillshit
gunlance has like
Slap a jet engine on that bitch
should be an electric guitar by default
It already makes no fucking sense
steal the zinogre horn for base model
Zinogre gaming
and make it like
Jack Black is a hunting horn main
My gf & I had this idea lol
https://twitter.com/Mh_Herny
https://www.twitch.tv/herny
I love the echo bubbles idea
go harder with that
...hammer should be boom hammer
I fucking ADORE that Capcom's leaning more into the inherent silliness of HH
shotgun in the front
Headbanging while you do an attack, doing a little jig
Ooooooooooo yeah
Or like that one hammer that I Did A Thing made

oh, and LBG/HBG could be shotgun/machine gun
lbg has huge bulk but is super short-ranged
and is fast
very "video game shotgun" vibes
Aye
so you make lbg either spread (buckshot), elemental (birdshot), or pierce (slug)
Tbf bowguns already have a range of precisely Fuck and All
HBG is a bit longer
which is why it can be just like
full machine gun all the time
and rapid lbg just means autoshotty
Imagine the old weapons making comebacks
but hbg moves to the special mode I can't remember as its baseline
god, lbg even has undermounted grenades now
Accel axe would go CRAZY
Wyvernheart/snipe
I wonder what other bits of Hunter gear would look like
Palicos would probably remain unchanged, I doubt the Guild would drop them
But like, what OTHER hunting helpers might they develop?
We know that chocobos are gonna be a thing in Wilds, and Cohoots and Palamutes have been a thing in Rise
...battle poogies
Battle BULLDROMES
RIDE INTO THE FRAY ASTRIDE MY NOBLE HOG
Potions would probably end up being Max Potion style pills
Same for Demondrugs, Armordrugs, etc.
The drugs would be a SHITTON more potent too, just a cocktail of shit
yummy
Bath salts, coke, shrooms
High off you GOURD screaming in a berserker fury
Can't imagine traps would be changed tbh, maybe pitfalls just bore into the ground faster
Tranq bombs would either remain unchanged or become tranq darts instead
...god
There would be an absolute black market for Guild shit
I can't imagine they'd let regular folks get their hands on Demondrugs or Armordrugs, let alone the giant fuckoff weapons
Yoo fellow shark enjoyer
But I second the video being great, the theme slaps so hard I want a game for it
You know what confuses me most
Why is Magnamalo not an Elder Dragon
Like, everything about it suggests it is
i didn't know magnamalo was chill like that
popped in during the allmother fight
oh, i'm reading it can be one of 3 monsters
Iirc ||Valstrax shows up in a fight to help as well||
:O
Because it's a Fanged Wyvern.
Elder Dragons are the we don't even fucking know biology grab bag
Also it's nowhere near Elder power level. It's very strong, but an elder dragon it is not
Compare Akantor and Ukanlos.
Near Elder power levels, treated similarly, but they're pseudo flying Wyverns, like Tigrex etc. You can even see the vestigial wings they have on their forelimbs
So they gave a common ancestor with the various -los (Raths, Seregios etc)
Deviljho is near Elder, but he's a brute wyvern. Common ancestor with brachydios, etc
bow is hard
With bow, remember it's more of a mid-range weapon
Look up critical distance of you haven't already
i see
maybe i should get a bow that's not a spread bow then
i had trouble hitting rathalos' head
I do have aerial aim now, and can try to stick the kunai into the monster (completely forgot about it)
What do y'all say, this look good or should I swap the Ingot skirt for something else
I think it's fine. Big Guts energy
Honestly I'm surprised at how well that skirt goes with the Bazel X chestpiece
I was fully expecting it to look like shit but no, aside from the weird off-white kinda yellowed fur color it's nearly a perfect blend
Speaking of, any of y'all think you could try recreating that shade of white? I'm trying to match the armor's fur with it.
...so I try to go and do the Lunagaron quest, right
Fought it before, wasn't so bad
Send a join request, and someone joins pretty fast, a bow user, which is nice
He beelines STRAIGHT for the monster, so I head after without collecting any more than the two spiribirds at the very start of the area, so I'm already underpowered and handicapping myself
He IMMEDIATELY FUCKS OFF TO PARTS UNKNOWN MID FUCKING FIGHT
And I end up fainting because I have half my total HP and Lunagaron was particularly hyperaggresive for some reason
I'm pretty fucking upset ngl
Y'all ready to be as cursed as I am?! ||https://fixupx.com/LluisAbadias/status/1835346138905432245||

this is extremely cursed because my first instinct upon seeing any of them would be to start bashing their skulls in
It's
Anthropomorphic humanoids?
How is that cursed
I mean yeah, sure, we hunt em a lot, but like
We hunt deer plenty and there's still deer fursonas
none of these look great to my eyes, but....yeah, cursed?
this is like the most average monster hunter fanart
Hell yeah
What implications?
yeah i probably used cursed wrong, it would just feel weird because i just see their faces and mentally prepare to go nuts on them with deadly weapons
but you'd probably get used to it
i want to hunt monsters...
but i'm the studyer 😩
kill
Y'all ever wonder how well a MonHun protagonist would do in a Souls game
I’d say they’d do alright
It’d take a bit to get used to fighting human enemies but the fights against larger beasts would be right up their alley
Considering the physical strength needed to wield some of the MonHun weapons, it may be more a matter of letting go of mental hang ups about fighting people than the ability to cleave someone in twain
Aye, true
much more important is the question of whether a monhun world character is like
capable of using souls or runes to get stronger
if they're in bloodborne it's easy, because the properties of the blood are what juices everyone
runes are a maybe maybe considering finger maidens, but the biology might just be incompatible because of cosmic bullshit
They win.
but it's up in the air in DS
Narrtiavely, the hunter's whole thing is there is nothign you cannot hunt with prepartion, thought, and a bit of temawork
If it's am onster, it's going down
"I'm a monster hunter and you're starting to look a lot like a monster to me"
"EeeeeeeeeYIKES! If I can't be a Hunter of these Monsters, I'll NEVER see the rest of this World!!!!!!"
The Nefarious Nargacuga:
...good god, Quick Sheathe really does make a gigantic difference for Longsword in Rise
it does, yeah
extremely funny to watch it go from "extremely optional comfort skill" to basically a core dps skill
Yeah cause like
Without it your character takes Fucking Forever to sheathe the damn sword
Also Special Sheathe
how does QS affect special sheathe? is it just the sheathing time?
oops wrong one, i meant sacred sheathe 😭
I think it does, though not as dramatically
gotcha
i was wondering if a slower sheathe time would be beneficial by giving you more leeway to counter
if you were using it for counters and not meter dumps
It does not affect the counter frames I believe, but not quite sure
I don't know much about Sacred Sheathe
Fought me first Seregios
Was surprisingly fun
Was using longsword and it felt weirdly fluid
It definitely felt like one of those fights where I would've been Fucking Miserable if I was using something else
ah yeah not the counter frames, but increasing the time before the sword goes into the sheathe (during which you can release and counter)
but i guess you can just release during the charge and trade for 1 or 2 levels anyways, i think it has hyper armor
Returning to hammer with MHGU and looking some guides for it.
And it's funny how recommended combos for guild style are basically just 2.
Hit monster in the face.
This is how you gapclose into golf swing.
This is how you do infinite into golf swing.
If the uppercut (*charge lv2) is anything like World Hammer, you can get a lot of distance and upwards reach. Massively helpful in mobile situations.
Why yes, it's the start of gapclosing into golf swing "combo"
mhw hammer speedruns make me sad inside
hmm?
it has such ridiculous motion values on its jump attack
that any speedrun with a ledge boils down to
"find ledge"
"lure monster"
"jump attack fifty billion times"
I was never concerned with efficiency in monster hunter really
it's got the perfect blend of controlled motion and verticality that lets you swing and then fade back onto the ledge
and also just raw dps
to support that desire
efficiency is usually cool as fuck to watch
aside from fatalis fight in world but that one is dumb
it just isn't on hammer
We challenged Monster Hunter Wilds Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto to describe the monsters, characters, and weapons of the game in just one word! Here are the results...

worth a try if you feel like you're taking a lot of damage
there generally isn't a whole lot of heads-up to upgrade armor in MonHun beyond "gee i sure am taking a lot of damage in this fight"
Armor makes a huge difference in monster hunter. I don't know the actual formula, but it's very very dramatic
Also check your elemental resists. Having negative element resistances means you're taking that percent more damage
Which is a problem when you have negative 20 fire res and rathalos hits you with a fireball
Oh yeah you're gonna get wrecked for that
I have an alternative on the wishlist, might go grind the pieces for that
then i can head back to the urgent quests
i might opt out of bringing followers on LS hunts too
gotta get my counters in
but i've been enjoying other weapons
:3
Even within MR the difference between just hit end game and properly tricked out armor is a big deal
I only ever bought my palico and dog, honestly
Followers were for when I was doing their quests
idk whether i want a pilfer palico or a summon endemic life one
Yes.
can i get one with both
Rise lets you keep a whole stable of Palicoes right
i definitely had my combat support palico, my gathering support palico, etc
yeah
I've got an entire squadron of em lmao
I've ended up just sticking with my main palico, a bomber type
Cause surprise, explosives deal A Fucking Lot of damage
pilfer is probably gathering
and endemic life probably support
i haven't tried bomber yet
having more 3rd wirebug is nice, more parts is nice
damage probably nice too
finally managed to break Shara's scalp off on my most recent hunt
heck yeah
i have to be doing something wrong
oh
yeah ok
i hunted 5 shogun ceanataurs
instead of the small mobs
simple as
well, my defense is up about 40, but i've lost 30% crit on draw attacks

i don't have a draw jewel to sub in
...how the fuck do espinas fireballs paralyze and poison you
That makes zero sense
Set me on fire? What the fuck else would they do, they're fireballs.
Paralyze me, though? Poison me? That straight up doesn't seem physically possible.
Evil and fucked up
i mean, to have fire, something needs to be on fire and burning, whether that's a solid, liquid, or gaseous fuel
presumably whatever flaming ball of gas the thing is hucking at you is also poison
Good point
Not a stretch to assume that a poison could also paralyze as well, though it raises the question of why its other poisoning moves don't paralyze as well
unfortunate but you also can't crit if you're dead
so it's probably worth it on the whole
Was Shagaru Magala a final boss before?
I swear I recall it being a Big Bad in a previous title
It was the final boss of mh4's village quest line
When do I get to fight Violet Mizu? I yearn for Pure Sword Ichimonji.
true...
huh
i’m reading that starting MR to around MR4, 600 defense should be pretty achievable 😟
i guess if you have like 5 118s or some upgraded base 102-110s
i’ve been chilling at 450-480 but now i am no longer chilling
i’ll upgrade my gear i guess
no wonder i cart a lot
Do you have the Powercharm/talon in your item pouch
You can get an easy 30 defense from both
hmm i have the shop items, but not the upgrades
Get the upgrades for sure
Remember, you can have both the charm and the talon in your inventory at once, and their bonuses will stack
idk if i’ve even fought a bagel guy
I really wanted to make a compilation of different moves of Great Sword and I have finally decided to do it. I hope you like it!
I want to improve and learn more and more about editing, in this video I have tried to mix good moves with a slightly different approach to what I usually do by adding slow motion.
I would like to know if you would li...
i honestly have no words
timestamped 3:26
seregios down
still taking a lot of damage but i'm adapting a lil
changing my dango and stufff
idk
these monsters haven't really been too fun to fight, maybe i'm just playing too aggressively
i'll try a different weapon, might be getting too lost in the sauce with LS
What weapon are you using?
long sword, they say it right there

LS shouldn't have that many attacks that lock you down plus evade slash.
Hunting monsters that are new to you?
yeah, it’s been zinogre, seregios, and magma almudron
the MR 4 key quests
and now espinas
i feel like i’m getting hit a lot harder than previous MRs, even with some gear upgrades
and i’m focused too much on sakura slash + special sheathe meter dumps, which is getting me hit a lot
espinas especially was bad, i kept getting tossed around by the charge attacks and paralyzes, which reminded me of when i was having a really bad time with world and almost quit
i’ll play something with a shield
maybe i have to let the monster have the first move before committing to huge attacks like the special sheathe
espinas just hurts a lot in general
yeah..
i’ll avoid the triple charge as much as possible
i haven’t completed a MR 3 or 4 quest without at least 1 cart, which kinda sucks
i’ll work on my playstyle, but first i’ll switch weapons
I really do enjoy sunbreak sns
i used a lot of striker sns back in gen/gu, though adept and valor were also fun
it also got me through base world, though I remember absolutely nothing about how it played other than slamming perfect rush and that one charge into jump
i enjoy it
i just have trouble landing the shoryuken and the followup
😔
got gore magala with it too 😎
1 cart on each but each was somewhat avoidable
cleaner play
I do wish styles would come back at some point, they were a lot of fun to play around with. But I'm sure that's a whole lot of def effort
base rise's sns was also neat as a fast... blunt weapon?
simultaneously glad that we can actually use element again, but i kind of miss relying on hard basher
i loved styles and switch skills were along the same vein and fun as well
it's why I'm mostly hype for the theoretical monhun 2028 over wilds
I think World/Wilds is more my speed overall, but getting to play around with weapon kits was definitely fun
I've hocked my switch, but I want to see if I can find a copy of Gen somewhere since I still have my 3DS
for whatever reason, world was never my speed.
i did like, finish base world, did the lunastra/behemoth/kulve stuff
never hooked me as hard as gu did though, and circumstances at the time kept me from getting iceborne and I just never bothered after
...I know a lot of people love it/got into monhun with it/it did a lot of QoL/Fancy Ecology/Aesthetics stuff, so I mostly just avoid talking about World in general
i've been bashing monster heads left and right
...oh, yeah, while sns is the talk of the day
Query
How does one fight Gore Magala
Also what the fuck is ZR + X + A on PC, I'm trying to figure out how to Powder Vortex but ever source I find is for Switch
keep your aggression up to clear the frenzy, aim for the feelers when they come out
either your right trigger or bumper depending on your options settings+ both attack buttons
a.k.a. "whichever two of your face buttons that aren't sheath or roll"
Figured it out, it's RT + Y + B
Right
Is Frenzy really that debilitating? It doesn't really seem that bad.
Natural healing never really does much of anything
oh, it's for the free affinity you get
clearing it makes you temporarily immune and also gives like, 30% affinity or so? i forget the exact number.
the infected state with a bar isn't really a hinderance at all (honestly the affinity on clear+coalescence means it might as well be a buff, there's armor skills that intentionally infect yourself)
the red state when you let it go on too long makes your health drain fast in pools of it and makes you take more damage in general though
(bloodlust, the relevant armor skill also makes it work slightly differently than the natural frenzy you get in the fight, but the concept of "hit the monster a bunch to clear it and get stronger" is the same)
Makes sense
...also, it's apparently completely immune to water
And I was bringing my Mizutsune longsword
Rathalos glaive it is
there anything in particular that was a struggle?
The moveset
That and my camera was just
Constantly zoomed out
Which I guess is better than the alternative but it made it weirdly hard to focus
it's a very "late 4th gen fight"
hasn't changed too much moveset wise since its introduction, much smoother moves and movesets than the really old stuff, but noticeably different than world's moveset design
It's more of a problem when you don't have much experience with a monster, and/or aren't dealing enough damage to fight off the meter.
Frenzy has two effects. If you fail the DPS check you get a debuff that removes your red health and causes you to take more damage from frenzy infused attacks. If you beat the DPS check you get more affinity.
Right
Ends up being easy as pie to overcome it with an insect glaive
Dunno if the kinsect counts but I get enough hits off that it ends up overcoming it
the fact that it can't see and instead senses you via its scales (and once you've fought it long enough, it can get a better sense of where you are when its feelers are out and thus gets far more accurate and aggressive) is a really fun mixing of Lore and Gameplay...
ooh cool
why do flash bombs work
I mean it does still technically have eyes, they just aren't very good
I'll have to double check
it was either gore magala or espinas or both
that i flashed
yeah, I just checked, tossed 5 flashes at it, zero response.
i guess I've spread misinformation on the internet

good to know tho, it's a cool fight and I'll see it again probably
i should fight astalos a couple of times, one of the weapons you can make with it looks reaaally cool
i also switched my sns helmet for something with divine blessing 2, so I'll be pretty tanky with dango defender 😎 still have ab7 and ce4 or so
can work on every build except my LS since that has a quick sheathe helmet
I should consider deco slots as well as armor skills too tho
Want a hand?
Aye
hunting horn is fun

surprised i got it with my 3rd hh hunt
i'm the music player
my horn looks dumb tho
back to nargacuga
😔
Does anyone have that one meme that's like
That one Final Fantasy 14 song being played over the clip of the Hunting Horn user headbanging
The song is called The Long Fall
You mean this one? https://fxtwitter.com/Revonlieke/status/1827155729825874092
#MHWilds but it's the Twinning!
A Long Fall always slaps
That's the one, thanks
...lovely to see that arena quests are still the worst content in the game
At least the builds in Rise have some sense of cohesion
Unlike whatever the fuck World had going on
we intentionally trained the hunter wrong, as a joke
...you know what I dislike most about Rise
It's not anything gameplay, it's not graphics, it's not story or plot or NPCs
It's the multiplayer
Everything just feels so
Isolated
And empty
Like, World is... what, 6 years old? And it still feels full of people.
Contrast that to Rise where it's geared more for playing with friends and it just feels
6, yeah
Lonely
2018
And like, yeah, sure, I can still semi-reliably count on SOMEONE coming to help, but like
It still just feels so lonely and isolated compared to World
Companions didn't really help either, most everyone is running around with them now instead of sending SOS flares
And like, why wouldn't you? They're more reliable and them fainting doesn't count towards mission failure.
But like
It really did just make the game feel so goddamn lonely
it's kinda funny since I've had mostly the opposite experience
like, the way world sets up the story quests meant that, when I tried to play through it with friends, in order to actually go through together, you'd have to go in alone, play through some cutscene, and then someone would have to immediately leave the quest and then go join back into someone else's iteration of the quest, which honestly turned the experience into "I guess I'll just do the whole thing alone" since I have zero interest in using an sos flare to begin with
guess that's the difference between "hunting with a bunch of people from around the world" and "hunting with a guild of your buddies"
I really hope they figured out a better solution to that in Wilds. I guess with World they must've figured everyone played through the story singleplayer and grinded materials multiplayer? But it really broke flow
LOL
SCARLET FOREST TIME
ROT ROT ROT ROT ROT
Oh snap i forgot tokyo game show is so soon

we'll probably get a new trailer too i have to imagine
We are so back
Rare mutant Zinogre
eventually you can get qs2 on a 4slot
Fucking love getting all of two Teostra shards across multiple hunts
Eesh
You've got it worse, at least Hellfire Shards are relatively common drops
Can you not meld one?
I didn't see it last I checked, but I can look again
I'm absolutely doing it to myself though, I need it for a crit charm that I don't actually need for any of my builds right now
It's more of a nice-to-have for down the road
Eh, you'll want an Agitator charm more anyway
Monsters enrage enough to where leveling for Agitator is more useful overall
Noted
I'll have to see if I have that unlocked yet
I've been procrastinating on fighting Nergigante
Fighting Gaismagorm
This is already Very Unfun
Mostly because it has annoying attack delays
It's like fighting a fucking Souls boss, he's gigantic and I can barely see him
...so maybe I ought to fight him like a Souls boss
AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
we're so back
Liking the layered weapon system in Rise a lot more than World's so far
Since you can just make it and bam, it's yours to use forever and you don't need rare materials or research points if you wanna swap to it from something else
Fought Rise's Velkhana
Was unironically nice to fight it again
...though I question how the fuck it got from the New World to the Old World
froze the sea and walked
Clung to a coconut husk and floated
Or, more seriously, clung to a zorah magdaros or other living island
Holy shit
i broke the sun
It's looking rough for the Kamura Hunter, he's on the ropes-what's this? OH MY GOD IT'S MALZENO WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!
zamn malzeno can show up there too?
wow
rathalos mantle from capture
and anjanath mantle from ground loot
what a hunt
Mantles seem decently more common in Rise than they are in World
I've gotten a bunch from completely random shit
Yeehaw baby
Fought Amatsu
Pretty fun fight
...guy that SOS'd in carted twice and lost me the hunt though
Hope he doesn't feel too bad
I have achieved Drip
...goddddddddddd I fuckig
LOVE
The master rank Bazel armor in Rise
Fucking glorious
bazel gear fucking rules, yeah
Probably a mod to unlock it early
Guess who's MR10 lmao
since when
i guess it's pretty fast after mr 6
grind for several hours doing key quests to get to mr 6
do 1 hunt after and jump to mr 8
but u were layering stuff before, did u get that layered armor unlock mod
I did the one "Go hunt two Bagel Geese" quest and that immediately gained me 3 levels, I just had to go murk a Teostra and I was good to go
real
Nah. Ended up deciding against modding Rise, cause I'm just gonna drop it eventually and the trouble of modding isn't worth it for a game I know I'm gonna drop.
damn it's cloudy... i wonder if the Sun will Break through .. .
oh nah this is from before
i beat da monstie
but yeah i might go back for parts
later ..
i'll lyk
Aight
For now, I'm gonna go get the Scholarly Set layered armor
Makes for a better cowboy duster
The coat and waist armor does, anyway
ooh
yeah i wanna unlock drip
i've been wearing my mizutsune pajamas for like 30 hours
Want me to help you get to MR10?
The studiousssssssssss
Me when I totally study my bookussy
