😔 i will be hunted
Nah, that just happens in Elden Ring
Put On flinch free
or simply be greatsword/dual blades
Greatsword eps\
if they starty tripping
you simply XY them
then you point and laugh
Bullying longsdword mains is a moral good
🤔
(XY triggers the upwards cut that launcches other players)
And if you aim it right, you can constnatly juggle a 3rd player gbetween two players
oooh
oh hell yeah it does
Valstrax...
also am I alone in thinking that Glavenus's 5th gen theme is not as good as his 4th gen theme?
the theme that i will never forget tho is tri lagi theme
its seared into my brain
i dont think its the best, but i feel the most nostalgic for me
Any time MonHun music comes up I am obligated to bring up Shara's theme

1:47 Shara Ishvalda Phase 1 Battle Theme - Monster Hunter World Iceborne

The full medley has some great moments in it too, I love the horror strings in the first form and the camp themes
I honestly kinda wish more monster theme are less generically orchestral tho
I need a good shotgun gameplay for rise. Should i go bow, HBG or LBG ?
cqc coating bow is pretty archetypically shotgunny
as is spread bowgun, though I don't know which in rise is better
Iirc rise meta was based around rapid? Piercing lbg, but a) don't quote me on that and b) I don't know whether that means spread was bad. Bow was a hell of a lot of fun, though, that I do know
I mean for HBG golm is good for shotgun but it kinda does only that... I'll try bow and it doesn't really seem to be any good spread lbg
Bow looks sick in wilds
it does
So far it looks like every weapon main be eating good in Wilds.
My baby gunlance has never looked more fire.

Ditto
I am HYPED
HYPED I TELL YOU
My baby boy Charge Blade is looking SO FUCKING GOOD
it's dope, I'm really struggling to pick between HH and CB
I have a tinfoil hat theory that Lance is last because of major rework (copium)
Lance is somehow reworked into a gunner weapon
Gunlance...2!
Lance becomes a drill by default and you can hold attacks to grind into enemies
Lance becomes the only felyne weapon. anyone can us it, you just turn into a cat
Taking a second look at the Bow trailer, it almost looks like the Power Coating is applied in a max number of stacks, making me wonder if it regens over time or if the cap to how many you can have at once is 8 (and then you'd need to craft more).
I did think 8 coatings was a weirdly low number to show in the trailer
Plus if you look at the reticle it gains 8 phials that empty as the hunter fires shots
I doubt they'd made a UI element like that variable
I could see that working. Avoids the early game problem of being too poor to afford extra coatings, and the late game problem of ignoring half of the coatings on your bow (since you'd have to kind of cycle through them on rotation)
Also adds more weight to bows that have certain status coatings in their roster
Could also partially apply to bowguns for certain ammo types, in addition to the ammo meter and the charges like the LBG mines
YEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
What if tomorrow they just drop the highlight for a new weapon like it isn't even new
it will be the lance why would they save the least complex weapon for last
Nargacuga my beloved
💖 1.55K 🔁 352
I'd bet they'd do it last to really catch us by surprise
nope, just differently made
if world is your only reference point to monhun, "merely differently made" might be a bigger deal tho
it feels like a switch game, because it is. the looks is different, maps are smaller, etc. and, like a lot of switch games, it's a lot of fun
i liked rise
I'd have probably liked Rise more if I vibed more with its take on hunting horn. I also didn't really like rampages
I know plenty of people that like it and Sunbreak, but I do prefer World and Iceborne
||MHGU the goat tho||
yeah, rampages were a miss for me as well. they're at least tolerable with friends on a voice call, once you figure out how to get things rolling, but grinding them was never as fun as a regular hunt
GenUlt, as much as I love it, is just... well
they weren't kidding about Worldborne having a lot more QoL
World was my starter too, and so far the only MonHun I've played
It's not, just different. The best way i've seen it expressed is World is much more simulationist, Rise is much more arcadey.
Rise is a lot faster paced, a klot more bonkers with the movement and all the swithc skills and silk binds
Rise is not as ecological and is faster paced
it seems wilds is gonna be a good mix of both
Rise effectively comes after MHGU/MHXX, made by the portable team
Rise is more or less similar to how older MonHun games ran. Just yoinking a few quality of life changes from World and Iceborne.
Also it being faster paced.
I miss the "Flex after eating." Animations tho.
They should make that a setting in Wilds xD
Label the option as
Eating Style: [Dine & Dash] or [Feast & Flex]
That's why I think it'd be funny to just drop it now or tomorrow instead
Lance mains waiting eagerly for the final video and then bam here's ball and chain or whatever
Greatshield, blast gauntlets, blade yo-yo, critical dagger, axe, magic tome, superheavy bowgun, razor wire, and then lance

@outer heron db really is last
I remember Gunlance having a wonky heat meter mechanic in MHG
Noice
Good wonky or bad wonky
From what I remember and understand of it, bad wonky because it's essentially nerfed without full heat meter compared to previous games.
jonnovision1 [2021, Aug 28]
Gen/GenU GL had a heat gauge divided into 3 colours (yellow -> orange -> red) with a needle indicating where you were on the gauge, being in higher sections increased damage of pokes/slams/etc, all the lance parts but didn’t affect any of the fun parts. You increase your heat gauge position by using shells and it slowly lowers over time, but you can lock your position by using wyvern fire
On paper it’s a cool idea, but they nerfed gunlance damage from 4U to gen so even at max gauge position (Red portion) your damage is only equal to what it was in 4U, at yellow and orange you did less than 4U
Thanks
Lance shield does Exhaust damage now
Ye big bonk
Also seems they're expanding on the guard related attacks which is very in line with how Lance be
👀
Looks like you can strafe while poking
There is like a blue glow before the second block at the start of the video
👀 sans mode
That's do indicate it's read to perform the guard counter they introduced in World
Which is to differentiate it from the super duper guard state you can also enter from that stance
What's more interesting is the yellow glow on the shield before what seems to be a stronger guard counter with a second strike in it
wait shit
is that
an actual guard point
one of their guard & ripostes showcased has the lance doing a block that immediately finishes its animation with a shield bash
that might just straight up be a guard point
since it's so much faster than all of the other ripostes we've seen, even the other ones on the lance
Lance seems to have several guard attacks in addition to the shield now doing exhaust damage
yeah getting that sns shield upgrade is fucking great
Honestly, having never used lance before, I'm kind of shocked to learn that its shield bashes never had exhaust damage
Maybe it was part of the dash?
It wasn't really usefull most of the time for offense though
Lance main be like : Big metal stick and big metal board, jeck yess
It does still look like good stuff
This is probably the most thorough answer for it, and much else, relating to MHXX: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/s/soyl6RRES8
For Gunlance I believe Brave-style is decent, whilst for normal Lance you want Striker.
It could build stun, but not exhaust, iirc
After the shielded dash you could shieled bash or thrust
Ah yes
Striker Lance was a hoot: https://youtu.be/J-hNEx5Aijg?si=419F8lwXtOkf8uuU
This area makes me angry.

There was so much charging
"We are running in the 90s" playing in the background
Sorry my phone can’t access links. Some strange glitch
Dumb Weapon idea: Stake Driver, you plant an explosive charge in a monster and hitting it detonates it. Works like a staff otherwise.
Yeah but that's a delayed explosive, not a lasting attachment where it can cause more damage by focusing on the spot
no it isn't
you can shoot wyrmstake blasts in IB to retrigger them
but ig if that doesn't come back...
They also basically added this to bow now
Also explodes when enough dmg is dealt
I said slightly
Which monster hunter games are the best in the series?
it depends
monhun games have very different play patterns
i could say World, because it's my favorite and i prefer its mechanics to any of the others
someone else might say Rise, because they like its hunt speed, weapon speed, and highly generous mechanics
plenty of people think Generations Ultimate is the best in the series
a lot of people like Freedom Unite
there are a lot of answers and all of them depend
I’m interested in rise so what would you say the best and worst thing about it is
Oh and btw thanks for your answer
mm
so, the parts of Rise that are the biggest general appeals are the fact that it's quite fast
er
fast to play
not like "require high reaction time"
hunts in Rise are a lot more streamlined than in other games
there's a lot of general qol improvements over the course of the series that have hit World and Rise in different ways
and those come together to make it a much faster and easier game to pick up and put down, you can just do a hunt or two in 30-40 minutes and go about your day
Rise is the fastest paced and most mobile of the games. it feels like a high octane action game, which will appeal to fans of that plastyle. Rise also has the most QOL stuff. Worst part of Rise is the Rampages which feel like distractions from the main loop of the game yet are either mandatory or drop such good loot that they're nearly mandatory for a large part of the game
and the fact that it gives you a lot of leeway
Rise is a very generous game, mechanically speaking
every weapon has a bunch of ways to ignore or escape punishments
and plenty of people don't like this, fwiw
most weapons have very powerful counter-moves with i-frames
so it's a lot better for new players to just get into and be good at
yeah
because you always have wirebug stuff to fall back on
and there are a lot of different ways "wirebug stuff" benefit you
this is also its weakest point to me, yeah
(along with rampages)
i much prefer the more careful deliberacy of older games, but i think World strikes the best balance between that and the mobile line's speed in the way that's most fun for me
but that generosity is a plus for a lot of people
and for understandable reasons
If I had to put it briefly for my own purposes/take, Monster Hunter has always felt like a series that heavily rewards you for learning both the behavior of the monsters you fight and the ins and outs of the weapon you wield. However, the amount of abilities that you have in Rise to escape a bad situation, ignore it entirely, and/or rapidly reposition with little drawbacks, leads to much less emphasis on this feeling of natural growth in skill and knowledge acquisition. Thus Rise is much less satisfying to me than older titles like Worldborne, Generations Ultimate, or Tri.
that's a good way of putting it succinctly, yeah
and about echoes my sentiments as well
You never need to learn the exact best moment to dodge a monster's attack, and the best angle to dodge it at for a quick counterattack, if wirebugs give you a gigantic window both before the attack to be miles out of the way before it even comes close to you, or it lets you quickly recover after getting hit so you won't ever be in a position to get combo'd by the monster.
I also hate what they did to hunting horn in Rise and am glad to see that they're largely completely reverting it in Wilds
Not to dissuade you Jamesie, I still put like 200 hours into base Rise, it's still a great game that I have a lot of fun with, but for my money it's the entry in the series that I vibe probably the least with
I will say that after Sunbreak release they drop rampages and you basically only need to do a handful of them to get to the DLC
Yeah I will say I did not play a lick of Sunbreak
I know it was generally much better recieved than base Rise
i told yall
i prophesized that shit
World's done downloading 🥳
I've had hundreds of hours of fun in it already lmao
I just yearn for more these days
ah gotcha
At this point all that's left to complete is Fatalis
Oh lawd I'm drippin
...Jesus fucking Christ, that poor Jagras
Level 1 beginner monster vs a fucking Fatalis greatsword is like a coughing baby vs a hydrogen bomb
Better comparison, yeah
...tbh I kinda don't like that about the SOS system, popping a flare and ending up with some endgame dude with good intention that just completely trivializes the hunt
i only call for help on two occasions
the first pink rathian hunt
and the first nergigante hunt
...good LORD I forgot how fun Hunting Horn is
Big bonks and big buffs
I'm using Kjarr Crusher, any that y'all'd recommend?
I just like its buffs, plus the damage is at least passable and it's got Blast
anything with AUXL is gonna be at bare minimum pretty useful
Remind me what AUXL is?
attack up XL
Ah, right
if you can do fatalis, that one's obviously gonna be the best for damage, after that is probably alatreon but safi HH is close enough and is much less annoying to fight imo
Roight
Up next will be dual blades
It's VERY good

IM A GODDAMN PROPHET
It was the only weapon left
YOOOOO
I’m having a stroke
What is the blue tinged weapon attack stuff close to the End.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Also it's here @umbral loom
It seems like they are actually making the gauge matter
Two days until two things
really not feeling the vibe of "Haha fat farting monkey haha its fat and gross and fat and farty haha!!!"
Like you empower regular attacks with gauge
The hunt and the silk melody
heck I'd put up with Blangonga than the fatphobic pink joke
They did say in interviews no new weapons
So selective gauge use for attacks and some blue tinged skill thing?
I am wondering if it's switch skills/styles
Bow had an adapt evade with red tinted stuff. But lance and db had blue tinged stuff
Wait was that a counter??
At 0:36+
Yeah I saw
That focus strike was some AoT bullshit hell yeah
Funny fart monkey confirmes
Or is there just universal perfect block/evade
I bit the bullet an play LBG pierce in rise
It just fully looks like an adapt dodge/evade on that db shot
There have definitely been perfect block and evade moves on multiple weapons
Beyblade is dual blades is brat
Since this version involves a grapple line to pull you into the roll you could argue this is the truest form as you can truly let it rip
Digging the look of that
looks like it's going to be a good time to be Greatsword/Dual Blades main
All the weapons are having a god time it seems

this article miiiiight be AI, actually
unless there are scoutflies in Wilds
Can i suggest cooling thy heels until Gamescon comes and goes?
No use in getting wound up about stuff like this until we have hard confirmation either way
ahh fair
Like, if decos are random drops again? I'm gonna be annoyed
but, to be honest, if necklaces are random drops again, i'm also going to be annoyed
I dont like layers of rng like that.
Thankfully, pc and cheat engine/mods exist to bypass this stuff, but it's annoying either way
Yeah, imo the onky RNG that should exist in MonHun is getting rare parts to drop from a hunt
Cause those are rewards of skill for beating the hunt, not rewards of "okay which loot table am I rolling again"
It's actualyl what put me off Rise's post game, needing to roll for skills
i basically decided screw it
To be fair to them, desinging a long term loop for post game content is... not an easy thing
I'm like happy enoug hwitout
but they seem to feel the need for their to be a long term loop
I dunno, i like hunting the armor and dont mind the rare drops because like, i know i can do stuff to increase that (If i want a mantle, there's tail carves, headbreaks, etc)
And it's got ap retty distinct end point - i only need what, 15? ish mantles per creature in theory
(If i want one of every weapon and all armor sets or what have you)
CW: blood (MK scene)
I will not use elemental weakness and blight the only élément i acknoledge is Blast. I will use raw damage on everything
All the Monsters are weak to these hands
Blast is definitely the funniest blight. I hope they buff it in Wilds
I find it more likely they'd tweak it to be a bit weaker
aye
Wait, is it actually? I've only played base rise and world and it always seemed kind of mediocre
it does a ridiculous amount of free damage
even against the things like teostra that are highly resistant it's still a minimum of like
several thousand damage over the course of a fight
huh! good to know
Drachen set and Escadora Alpha go together surprisingly well
Only issue is fighting AT Behemoth for the layered armor
Swear to god AT Behemoth could solo Fatalis, that dude is ridiculously overtuned
Fatalis doesn't understand raid mechanics, it has no chance
IIRC when blast procs, it deals part-damage to all parts of the monster, not just the one you were hitting
I despise behemoth for introducing the one shot attacks and damage gates
...oh god, did they actually keep some of his mechanics
Oh hey, the money from those TF2 cosmetics I sold finally got added to my Steam wallet
MonHun Rise time
Behemoth quite literally got pulled from FFXIV, it's definitely a rough fight to manage because of the MMO mechanics
Aye
Plus, like
It's fucking Behemoth
One of the biggest, baddest monsters in all of Final Fantasy period
Better it be overtuned than undertuned and underwhelming
Behemoth is arguably the only monster where Lance can truly tank
Ye and after Behemoth Saphire Star got added which ok. But escaton judgement i despise and to me it looks like a Trend that I have Behemoth to thank for
i think they learned their lesson at the end of iceborne with fatalis
just with it being a real hard fight with no bullshit like eschaton judgment or ecliptic meteor
I mean you still have to hide from the world burning around you but it's well telegraphed
i would argue that fatalis's bullshit is bringing mh1 to world
it has some rancid hitboxes on a couple attacks
Gravios sticks out to me in MHGU for that reason, I'm pretty sure it's got MH1/MH2 hitboxes still.
i would not be shocked if that were the case
Gravios always had hitboxes that were weird as shit. If you ran the correct way, gravios would roll over you and not hit you.
Oh, man, Fatalis is nowhere near as hard as the Elden Ring DLC's last boss, this feels weirdly simple in comparison
Not easy but I'm having a much better time of it now
...his tail's still bullshit long though
And ya can't cut it
And you can't cut it either
I'm mostly just annoyed that I was halfway across the arena and it STILL somehow hit me
Extremeoth down AGAIN baybee
did you solo it
Extremoth is one of the hardest monsters to solo. Mainly because you have to pass that stupid DPS check, dodge his tornados, and place the comets in good spots.
If you don't have a fast weapon, then the fight can be a slog. Especially Pre-Iceborne.
Negative lmao
Iceborne kit at least makes it tolerable
Hrm
Debating if I wanna spend the last few cents in my Steam account on some small little cosmetic for Rise
Goss harag plushy duals
Don't really use dual swords, though
I might get this once I sell some TF2 items? But it feels... vaguely neckbeard-y.
What with the long coat and the hat
Hat's more cowboy looking though, rather than fedora looking
😔 it is thoroughly unfortunate how the guy with the fedora has been co-opted by chuds
oh here it is
God
I've seen that factoid floating around before
Always feels shitty knowing he became a stereotype for creepy weirdos just because he doesn't look conventional
I'm having a lot of fun with valor gunlance in MHGU
what kinda GL are you using?
Obsidian gunlance atm, so long shelling
in valor style
oooh
End screen is AA Flare hunter art going off
Upward aiming full burst and then also wyvernsfire if it's not on cool down
No new showcases anymore?
I kind of hoped they'd move on to showing off some beasts or gameplay features
Poggeur
Dashes the ideas they may drop a new weapon out of nowhere with a showcase trailer though
I think that was already quite an unlikely pipe dream
I know why people naturally want "more thing" but also I will be honest in saying I don't know that adding more weapons would significantly improve the monster hunter series, there's already quite a variety 😅
They need to add a pokeball weapon
i mean didnt they say no new weapons in an interview like specifically
How do I get my Guiding Lands leveled up quickly?
All I know is a faster hitting weapon that deals exhaust damage is the only niche I can think of that is yet to be filled
yeah
long before the showcases
Odds are we'll see some in a trailer or two before release
On that note though, what weapon comboes do y'all think you wanna try out? I'm thinking I might do LS and Bow depending on if/how they changed the coating to work (since it appears to be slightly different int he showcase as I mentioned previously)
slay/capture monsters in their zones, check tracks, and collect Guiding Lands exclusive materials
iirc
Also be sure to capture each of the unique Guiding Lands monsters at least once since this unlocks the rotating arena quests which can make farming their materials a bit simpler.
Ah, yeah, should do that
Y'all got any recommendations for good spread LBGs?
I'm using the Frostfang one at the moment
can't help ya there, i only played stickies in world
picked it up for safi
hm
looks like beotodus is the only good spread lbg until elders
and then you go to the velkhana lbg
and then the final progression is either the one you're probably using (blizzard gust, the special frostfang quest gun) or safi's frostshot
Right, right
Oh, wow, yeah. Having a cooldown on coatings/special ammo would definitely explain why they keep pairing bowguns with melee weapons in the trailers. Swapping to another weapon while they recharge makes a lot more sense than the inventory hell of two different weapon loadouts in one
This. Like as much as i do wanna see the series get some new weapons, teh actual niches left are... not that many
The hypotehtical punch boomerang they've shown sketches for before makes osme sense
Giant fucking punching gloves that are some mix of dual blade fast with greatsword/hammer style charges coudl work, but like... all 3 of those weapons already exist
Some kind of harpoon type throwing spear or another "mid" range weapon is the most likely actual niche to still be covered
and the thing is once they commit to a weapon in a mainline series, you cant really... not bring it foward
Which means that much more design work balance work art resources etc
i want the accel axe
i am very sympathetic to people requesting tonfas purely out of the desire to basically be punching a monster
I do think "PUNCH MONSTER" is well, a valid thing
i just want it to be Vi-style massive gauntlets over your arms though
(Which migfht, even, done well, help with some of the obvious design problems that short weapons have in the series)
That's sort of where I'd lean - big meaty hits with some kind of mid-range element.
Rocket punch? Rocket punch.
give it an LS-esque "momentum" meter that like
heats up the weapon with kinetic energy conversion and activates some ranged attacks
either chain-explosions, rocket punches, both, or some similar effect
or a swaxe/CB charge meter that makes the whole weapon mid-ranged with explosions after a warm-up
Yeah what I'm thinking is having one ranged for when a monster takes to flight or starts moving too fast to follow would be a good way to cover bases and Bow is probably the easiest to mix with LS
ill be honest the two weapon thing is my biggest trepidation about wilds because I honestly have never been fighting a monster and thought "It would be useful to have a second weapon right now" and I would usually prefer to just get good at using one than two 😅
Yeah, I feel like the only benefit is just being able to hot swap while you hunt two monsters back to back
If they try to encourage you to do it during a single hunt by making monsters switch between two very different modes or movesets I might just get frustrated
Aye, the only real benefit I can see from it is swapping from a status weapon to a more damage focused one and vice versa
Proc something and switch to the big boy sword
Those multi-monster hunts too, I don't want to bring every weapon against a Rathalos or w/e
True
I will say, I do quite enjoy how they're starting to lean into the inherent silliness of Hunting Horn a little more
The little jig you perform doing the Echo Bubble is just fantastic
Aye
Hope we get some really fucking wacko shit
Like an entire goddamn piano on a stick
Some of the bowgun stuff sounds a little anemic ngl
Bowguns have always sounded kinda piddly tbh
Which always disappoints me
Like, look at the fucking SIZE of those guns
They wouldn't go "pew" they'd roar like cannons
Especially heavy bowguns, those things should be giving our Hunters tinnitus
Size of a fuckin punt gun they are
Well that's the bow part I guess, they're sort of crossbows despite literally everything about their design
Firing big fuckoff stakes
But like. Also machine gun. A bit. So.. sure.
Hope Snipe is still around
Ditto
Nah they're primarily guns based on the muzzle flashes, I assume the crossbow bit is just the striker that fires the bullet
Wow, for once the fem model hunters get the better armor
That hat is KILLER
...oh my god you can straight up aimbot with Bow
The seeking looks pretty neat yeah
wasn't the hat the male set?
I dunno if we got a clear shot of the hunter's features to tell for sure, but the shading on the helmet hunter here gives them a pretty masc chin while the hatted hunter has very full lips.
I really loved the pipe organ on the guild palace HH in Iceborne
Just wished it had a different sound lol
Same, would've sounded cooler if it made organ noises
ah, gotcha, I thought we saw some breast curvature on the helmeted one's chestplate
but it's been a couple days
Hope you enjoy it and supports by Like,Subs.

I just want de-gender-locked armor...
...really hope they move away from half the mechanics being flavors of stun in the future
Why are there like four flavors of "you're not allowed to play the game"
Tremors, roars, pins, and just regular-ass stuns
Tremors doesn't even make sense for how long it lasts
Like, anyone would get knocked to their feet by the ground shaking, but to fucking crawl around for the next ten seconds unable to do literally anything else?
as a LS main I love roars, they're easy to parry
also the answer is "to make you get different skills to resist them"
i think roars are good design because they're a "scripted" stun that you can roll through
You're an LS main Alaen? I respected you
they very directly and obviously reward itemization and/or game skill
alas, I am terminally LS brained
👃
I've played LS literally every game since Freedom
just too used to it now
i think stuns and tremors overall are...not
not great
to say the least
mostly because stuns as a death spiral are just annoying game design
without them, i'd be fine with tremor
since that's, similar to roars, something that you can Built Diffy yourself through or just dedicate itemization toward
but stuns suck
At least stuns make some degree of sense
I have no idea what on earth causes the Hunter to just become completely incapable for a solid ten seconds when the ground rumbles a bit hard
Can't you roll out of a tremor stun?
Not that I've seen
not as far as i remember either
have you ever been in a mid-size earthquake and just struggled to stay off your ass?
sometimes you've got the shakes even once the aftershocks are done
or at least it was like that for me once or twice
I guess you're right
...augh
Why must layered weapons be so so very expensive
I keep pinballing between wanting Brimstren Drakenbone or Supremacy Blade
Cause on one hand, I've loved Supremacy Blade's design since I were but a high school lad and it's SORELY underrated, but on the other, Brimstren Drakenbone is one of the coolest fucking swords period
Tbh I do lean more to Supremacy Blade, I like its thinner profile more
God, same
Those arena quests are awful
Though tbf that's only really because the kit you're provided is... Really Fucking Terrible for some reason
I guess that's part of the challenge, beat X monster with extremely subpar gear
I got through it with Rise for the mighty bow charm, but it was a pretty tedious grind. Beating the monkey for the first time was pretty triumphant, it's just the next dozen times that sucked
we animal crossing now
Weird how well the Stinogre LS goes with Alatreon's armor
...well, they're both dark metals and dark scaly hides primarily, so I guess it makes sense
Color scheme synergy

What game?
World
try to only shift between modes after a swing, it's way faster than the static mode change animation
or a roll, if you need to change in a pinch
my preference is to stick to axe mode most of the time for the mobility, and then change to sword mode when i have a big opening
Don't know much about swaxe in World actually
Yeah. Swax in world is really about getting zero sum discharges as efficiently and safely as possible, and using the best pokes at your disposal in between. I actually value quick sheath on it in World, as repositioning by getting out of sword and using axe's better reach and mobility is frankly a pipe dream. It's just not fast like in Rise.
Don't worry about charge skills, your amp gauge builds insanely fast in this game, and your damage output is pretty bananas.
I know some people like power axe builds too, but I know very little about power axe builds in World so I would ask someone else. I've pretty much done power phial sword builds and ZSD spam ele builds
World cranked up stun duration/reduced the effect of stick wiggle by a lot for ??? reason(s) too, making it super punishing without stun resistance/immunity. Getting hit by rapid attacks/a strong attack is bad enough without stun ensuring your death at HR/MR.
World also introduced the SWaxe infinite loop combo
Cause changing from sword form to axe form regains a bit of gauge you can do swap attacks between the two constantly

An overview on the new Focus Mode, and the 14 weapon types in Monster Hunter Wilds! With many unique weapon types and the ability to bring two weapons into the hunt, choose the combination that's right for you.
Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in 2025!
Official website

it's swaxe
you either sw or you axe
I didn't play Iceborne, where I heard grappling into a Zero-sum discharge became more of the meta, but IIRC switch attacks were a solid way to approach the weapon.
For axe mode specifically, Wild Swing into the Morph attack is the usual go to, though I believe the poke on the axe is also decent.
Yeah no wild swing consumes my durability
Here's a decent Reddit comment on the SA in Iceborne
If you own Iceborne, then switchaxe gain a few really good moves:
- The fade slash: (Backward+Y). It moves you back plus do quite good damage. You now have quite effective poke combo by Forward Slash -> Fade Slash.
- Power axe mode: (Wild swing -> Heavy slam) making your axe causing more trip damage and can even KO monster. Really good to open any engagement with.
- Clutch claw: During an Elemental Discharge (X+Y when your blue blade bar is not glowing), press the clutch claw button will transition it to a Zero sum discharge. This is very useful because:
Switch axes had different gauge gaining rate depend on the type. Axes with exhaust or paralyze phial gain gauge the fastest and your sword will glow in a single Heavenward Flurry combo (Y>Y>Y); allow you to do Heavenward Flurry -> ZSD.
Axes with power or elemental phial does more ZSD damage but also gain slower and won't fill your whole bar. BUT now you can do Heavenward flurry -> Element Discharge -> Clutch claw.
Heavenward flurry fill your bar from 0 to around 80%, Element discharge will fill the remaining 20%, and you will instantly gointo ZSD. Neat. - And most of all, when you have a full bar, you can just clutch to the monster and spam ZSD exactly where you want it to hit.
And another one, which together should cover the basics. (They share what I remember of playing with SA, as well as some additional info.)
Hey there. Think I can give a few pointers and tips.
So switchaxe is an all offensive weapon. Axe mode is good for getting trips with power axe mode, sword mode is the main damage output, and zsd's can be a pretty safe playstyle.
In axe mode, I mostly just use it to combo wild swing into sword mode since the morph attack's second hit is one of SA's strongest hits. Sword mode, I use the heavenward flurry combo(b>b>b on Xbox) to build up amp meter then use sword combo(b>b>y>y repeat) to dish out damage. Keep in mind to morph back to axe mode every now and again to rebuild sword gauage and to dodge attacks mid combo. ZSD's can dish out good damage, but it may be beneficial to end it early since a full ZSD has a long recovery animation.
Skills I would recommend are power prolonger, evade extender/window, and earplugs 1. PP extends the time that your SA stays amped. Evade skills are needed since SA has no defensive option other then dodging. And earplugs 1 is a niche but nice use. ZSD gives you four levels of earplugs just for being in the ZSD animation, so slotting in just one level of earplugs gives you full roar immunity while you zero sum, making roars a good opportunity to punish the monster.
Switchaxe can be a pretty good wakeup weapon if there isn't a better wakeup on your hunt. Landing the second hit of the wild swing into sword mode is a good wakeup hit if you can land it. However, I've found that slotting evade extender 3 opens up the ZSD wakeup instead. Go to the monster's head, draw your axe, switch into sword mode, and dodge back. That put's you at the perfect distance to use a zsd to wakeup without hitting the monster with any of the mini ticks of ZSD.
Hope this helps and happy hunting.
Me when every guide is not for keyboard and mouse
Also 2 hours till new wilds news drop
i think it's 3.5?
and thats until the start of the gamescom stream im not sure monster hunter will be the first thing shown 😅
my dad works for the guild he says it's 5 hours
You know what I hope for most with Wilds
I hope we get another Final Fantasy crossover so we can dress our raptor up like a chocobo
IIRC there was word that if they did another one it'd be against Bahamut
So, monkey's paw joke and such
Extremut
They should let us fight that moogle king boss from ff14 so that I can wear him as a hat
You can just do that
arch-tempered ff16 ifrit
would be sick
I would fucking KILL for a Bahamut fight in MonHun
That would be arguably cooler than Fatalis
One's a world-ender, sure, but the other is straight up an actual, literal deity
And can you IMAGINE what Bahamut gear would look like
But which version of Bahamut will it be?
It's like an hour till show
Agreed
Bahamut Prime maybe
If they wanted to troll everyone it'd be the one from FFXV that's just a sword guy
If they wanted to fuck with FFXIV players specifically it'd be the actual Bahamut we never meet from that game cause he got killed thousands of years ago
Aye
Gilgamesh would be kinda funny, though he really wouldn't fit
Just a bigass guy that's using every single MonHun weapon
Try to hit him, he Guard Points with a Charge Blade and hits you with the Spread HBG
Godddddddddddddddd
There is NOTHING in this game that can compare to blowing up a sleeping elder dragon to high heaven
Finally got this quest down, now my name's a fancy yellow
blowing up TWO sleeping elder dragons
True
MONSTER HUTNER TIME
IT'S TEMNO TIME
makes me think of zinogre a bit
IT LOOKS SO GOOD
kind of diablos meets zinogre, yeah
Railgun?
Delve deeper into the Forbidden Lands with our latest Monster Hunter Wilds trailer, fresh from Gamescom Opening Night Live.
🔴 New locale: the Scarlet Forest
🌹New monster: Lala Barina
⚡ Windward Plains Apex Predator: Rey Dau
🙌 New characters!
💪 NPC Support hunters!
🍖 SO TASTY!
➕ more!
Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PlayStation®5, Xbox Seri...
RAILGUN DRAGON
We also get to see the charge blade monster
Lala Barina is fun name
the fuck is a railgun dragon
yeah, glad we're finally getting a better look at it
I've been so fucking hyped for the railwyvern
nice flower spider
and it absolutely goddamn delivered
Oh, hey, you can get the Iceborne armor for your palico
ye
Hope it's a layered set
Oh nice
RAILGUN DRAGON
I do hope it's layered armor and not just regular armor, be a shame for it to be immediately outclassed
should be at least the latter
maybe both
REY DAU
WE HAVE A NAME
god this thing fucking slaps
the railgun jaws go hard
Agreed
God, the HBG from it is gonna fucking RULE design wise
At least that's what I'm hoping
THE HEAD CLOSING FOR THE RAILGUN IS AHHHHHHHH
the spider looks really cool
Really big fan of how vibrant Lala Barina looks, Rey Dau has some great patterning as well
I really hope Rey Dau's bowguns incorporate the raingun jaw
it's gonna make such good bowguns
Ditto, I wanna see some shit like the Zinogre bowguns
jaw dbs please
there's so much cool shit to do with the railgun jaws, as long as the chassis is good
from the video, it seems like Snipe is just the focus mode attack of HBG now
so it seems like all HBG might get both Wyverheart and Snipe now, effectively
we'll probably get some more details on that soon, with people getting their hands on the demo
do also find it interesting they seem to be making shield baseline for HBG
especially with it also getting manual guard now
Aye
Shield's integral to HBG gameplay, so it makes sense that they're just making it part of its base kit
Cause you're just gonna take the shield anyway, may as well streamline things
Im just glad we got hard confirmation that there are more locales
I wonder what makes the water red
Probably minerals
or microbes
Could be from the plants
we already did a long while ago
the website calls the windward plains the "first" biome of the forbidden lands
I'm aware, yes, but it was reassuring to see something new
Language like that can be deceiving
seems very unlikely that they would put this skeleton in and not also have rakna-kadaki, too
Or, bare minimum, more temnocerons
that's a lot more likely to me
i have a feeling we'll get a lot more new monsters than repeats
so more new temnocerans feel more likely than old ones
well I just mean that it is very tellingly the same skeleton as that monster
previously forbidden
having access is extremely new
name's a holdover
no jokes allowed, only serious mode in my monhun
the bidden lands
It's likely she'd make a come back in the expansion, I think. (Rakna, that is)
he's fun
I bet if you dump a bucket of water on that cat he looks like a limp noodle. 200% fluff
What helmet is NotAMetroid wearing?
diablos hard
...Fuck, Lala Barina is a SPIDER LILY
LALA BARINA
the glow probably comes from very bright facepaint
Ayy farmed last fatalis evil eye with shameless plunderblade
Got some before doing it with a group from a server I've left
🥳
...the fucking host DC'd right at the end of a Raging Brach fight and I had to solo the fucking thing
Didn't end well and now I'm just pissed
oof
nice
Apparentlyvi play bow now
it happens sometimes
I Onder if it will stick in iceborn or if i'll retur to spread HBG
In the trailer they said they could hunt with guild permission
I think it would be dope to encounter a monster but dont get guild permission yet so the objective is to flee/evade it
Yay that ould be poaching and the game ain't called Monster Poacher
On the other hand it male sense since most of the mobster we do hunt as guild quest are supposed to be threat to either human life or ecosystem in général. If the monster are just being chill in their home we don't hunt
Lorewise, we hunt view few monsters - the loop of going out and hunting is an impostion of the gameplay loop, rather than the reality.
HEck, you can find refrences in early games to guild assassins who kill poachers with things like a bowgun hidden as a parasol.
the guild takes poaching incredibly seriously.
Given poaching can end up in "Fatalis has decided to melt humans and wear their corpses as a fancy cloak... AGAIN", they've got good reason too
And also general ecosystem preservation
Fatalis ius sort of the end result of rampant poaching, yes
in general hafl the reaosn you're hunting stuff like Jho etc is so that the ecosystem doesnt get dirsupted enoguh that the local Elder wakes up and decides to eat a village
my only complaint with lala barina is that its lack of leg-adornments makes the fact that it's only walking on four legs (although it has six limbs) much more apparent than it was on rakna kadaki
(i cant really blame them though because more legs directly translates into more work for animators)
Also, temnocerans just kind of follow that body plan already ever since nerscylla
And then hunt description be like - them monster were wailing at night and I want to get some sleep, KILL THEM ALL
Not gonna lie, i actually hate the goofy hunt descrptioons
for exactly this reason
I would much prefer the game leaned into the eco-system preservation and research angles
lala barina feels (from how it moves) very close to nerscylla, much more than rakna-kadaki was in world.
And I've hunted nerscylla just day before yesterday.
(I would not be sad to see Nersyclla back. quite the reverse! Actually i'd just like a lot of Mh4 stuff to make come back)
NIBBLESNARF
And give us another Snake Wyvern while you're at it
also Gog.
(Actually nibbles was tri, but anyway)
another thing I've hunted on that day
Let us feed em bombs again
Tho I feel "fishing" inside the fish might be a bit too silly for modern style monhuns
dung gaming
timer 👀 ? the technology
Small monsters can now attack bigger ones. also what we thinking of the health and stamina gauge look
WEHEHEEHEHEHEHEEHEHEEHEHEHEHEH
Join us live from Gamescom 2024 as we showcase Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay with the Developer Team!
PERFECT GUARD GS
honestly i dont love them in this screeshot but im sure ill get used to it fast and not notice
the wiggliness is not what i would have chosen
They announced armor appearance isn't gender locked
HUGE
having an ingame timer that you can actually quickly peek on will be nice
the perfect guard on the GS threw me for a loop.
also I saw that when breaking part you dont need to pick up the shiny orbs on the ground anymore, but they get insta collected into your bag?
Yeah looks like
ye the wigle is eh
I like the stamina bar
dont love the health wigle
POWER CLASH
They should add the ability to flip off pack leader monsters
Have we seen a dual attack yet?
Don’t believe so
I haven't seen it in the stream yet either i think
I need to hunt I need to kill I need to chase down my prey until it cannot go on as my claws and teeth sink into its hide tearing and ripping it apart
Wait for real? Awesome!
They said as such on livestream at gamescom
WIAT WHAT!?
No seriously, that';s amazing
I am genuienly so happy, that dobuelx teh amount of fashion and meansiu can live my enby dreams much more easily
It’s time to kill dozens of creatures so I can look incredible
a Golden Kamuy/Monhun collab would be amazing
put my boy xenomorph in there i wanna wear him
Okay, this is cool as hell
oh! that's why it's wiggly. it's an oscilloscope.
YOOOOOO
So it's really just two different styles for each set rather than genders
Note, however, that they're not just cosmetic option one piece you can flip between
You have to craft both a pair of greaves and craft a pair booty shorts if you want both options
this opens up so many fashion options (changing just the greaves to female style)
masc 👏 hunters 👏 with 👏 boob windows
Unironically, full helm female sets
i hope you can turn it off tho
The designs on both of the newly revealed monsters go absolutely insane
I feel like I saw a lot of people worried by how understated/naturalistic the first three monsters revealed were but these feel really classic
Rey Dau, the flying wyvern, might be my favourite non-elder in the whole series
...be really fucking great if frostfang barioth's ice didn't make your character drop literally everything they're doing to wade around like a fucking idiot
God I hate fighting this thing
Fucking finally
Wilds is finally GotY
Just don't get hit 5head /jk
It's so obnoxious I can hardly bring myself to farm it for the gear, I got the frozen fish and that's all I could manage before tapping out
PALICOS TALK NOW???
you can toggle it
but yes
they showed that in the first trailer a couple months back, too
I'm sobbing, they're so cute
And they give environmental clues
I will make my palico Meulin for reasons that I will not explain
Hrmm
looks like bow coatings not being items is confirmed? which probably means bowgun ammo isn't either.
huh, fascinating
Making an ultratank HBG build, is Defense Boost worth taking on it?
not really
Or should I wear a spread boost charm instead
and someone else reports
I dunno how important it is but normal2 ammo on HBG is infinite.
Oh?
That's quite lovely
Though it does leave normal 1 in a somewhat less than advantageous spot
Cause that's literally all normal 1 has going for it, is its infinite supply
What I figured
if you can get to the max threshold without compromising some damage, it gets more valuable the more points you have in it
but like
broadly speaking, you're better off just taking anti-cc and/or the monster's element
Debating 4 Shield/1 Close Range or 3 Shield/2 Close Range
Ngl even with the ice I vastly prefer frostfang to normal barioth
So there is like a perfect guard/evade seemingly on all weapons
yeah it seems all weapons have some kind of defensive move now
Except LS, which had them before they were cool
which is nice honestly
there is always the chance of getting another new one 😛
If there is we'll hear about it, but so far nothing
Just the usual Foresight and Iai Spirit slashes
Though LS did get offensive upgrades in red mode
hope ISS is gonna keep its more generous frames like in Rise
We'll be able to get a feel for it once the demo drops
the Iceborne was a little too tight IMO
so curious how it'll go
I'm gonna assume they're gonna try to funnel LS offensive output more into red, instead of just spamming Helmbreaker all the time
so presumably the idea is get into red, DPS for a bit, Helmbreaker to cash out
then repeat
TBF Helmbreaker seems to only be worth it in red anyway what with the new finisher eating up your yellow when you pull it off
it already mostly was tbh
you didn't usually wanna Helmbreaker below red
big buff is also that you seemingly have a lot more mobility in the Spirit Slash combo now
and there's seemingly some new cancels out of the sheathe on Roundslash
Also you can sheathe during the helmbreaker jump to cancel if you lose the target
does that keep it from eating your meter?
the bar used to get consumed when you do the slash, so I'd assume so
https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/1exprek/official_monster_hunter_wilds_ui_basic_weapons/ the first couple pages are well-covered by the preview videos, but all the of the individual weapon pages have some new details
(source: https://capcom.ws-l.ink/monsterhunter/en/)
the Hunting Horn page shows one melody as "Echo Wave (Blunt)" which might imply other damage types are available??
looks like "offset" is their name for the attacks which interrupt monsters, like the greatsword "counter"
So DB has a new skill element added to it which I like
the demon dodge?
The meter is consumed if you do the falling slash, so sheathing it spares the meter
That new Spirit Charge is going to be interesting to work in to standard play. Use it when a monster is downed and you got yellow to go maximum effort and such
it's an interesting move, yeah
go up a level immediately, but take a while to charge
Low key hope quick sheathe will be a bigger impact on Special Sheathe like it was in Rise
Oh shit I just realized something
So Doshaguma reopens wounds when it enrages, right?
According to Lore the same thing happens to Deviljho
So if it shows up it might have the same mechanic
it was very nice, so I hope that comes back yeah
Oh, is armor not gender locked anymore?
I wonder what the Inclemency period for the Scarlet Forest will be
Also nah it's no longer gender locked
Monster Hunter is now perfect
I am a bit worried about one thing, with Charge Blade the power axe mode is accessed by doing a Focus Attack, but that seems to be the only way to get into it which seems a tad limiting and would make it difficult to implement without significant change in future games that may not have the wound system.
yeah
it seems like armor will basically just have two styles now, and you choose which one when you craft the piece
Power Axe mode is only specifically mentioned in the focus attack tooltip which states it puts the weapon in Power Axe Mode, which then seems to be a prerequisite for that counter attack, unless I'm missing something in the move card
maybe
still haven't seen all the info people've gotten from the demos
i just know that the-thing-that-looked-like-savage-axe was thought to be focus only and then confirmed otherwise
but maybe that's different from power axe
The thing I am worried about is that there are special drops based on the seasons/other factors and that it will be annoying to farm those if the factors are to spread out (day/night is fine but season might be a bit longer)
There seems to be drop rate differences between them
capcom has a QR code with the game manual
someone posted the link to it
there's both "Focus" and "Offset" moves. It seems like Offset moves work like counters or parries
I'm really tickled that Hunting Horn's offset is a special melody. doot parry.
I wonder how item scarcity is going to work in wilds.
I don't know if camp restocking will be a thing, but if we have that, your separate seikret pouch, and the seikret pouch gets refilled periodically (as indicated by voiceline in today's livestream) are we just going to be completely inundated in consumables?
seikret pouch just gets filled with what you're given at the start of a quest
i am wondering why then the swaxe has both a offset move and a move called counter
like the box in prior games
it's just always on hand instead of in a specific box bc you're mobile
Ah
so that's not more or less gubbins than usual
ah that's neat
seikret pouch might also let you restock, idk
so no more needing to rush to the box each mission
real interested in seeing what's going on with it though
esp. since normal 2s were infinite
with demon dodge is it finnaly time for full evade window gaming lessggo
so bowgun ammo is a bit more ??? than normal
thunders had a count, but I think I remember seeing something weird going on with em
and infinite normals, if that also extends to normal 3s and/or pierce/spreads, would be massive
I'd honestly like to see ammo in general be not based on you having to actually buy/craft the ammo
you can probably still limit it somehow, I just don't think it having it be an extra money/resource sink for gunners is that interesting
or yoink those valuable farming spots
bow coatings being a meter based resource now is already great
the manual talks about bow coatings somehow interacting with its charge meter, but it's not really clear whether you spend meters to get coatings or just to apply the ones you brought yourself. It'd be really weird if bowgun didn't work on similar lines
my assumption is you just turn meter into coatings
since the meter can apparently be spent for some other stuff too
yeah that's GS alright
Lance's is good, too
Man it still kinda doesnt say what archdemon mode does / (also if in archdemon you lose access to demon dodge)
wait a fuckin second
enhance some attacks and elements to be still vague
that ain't three inputs
the fourth input is three thrusts
that's a sextuple thrust
won't it probably be the same as archdemon mode in world?
a 200% thrust per thrust efficiency. that's value.
I am of the opinion that the best way to handle items/ammo would to be giving the player access too a infinite supply before a hunt that let's you full up to your inventory limit, then when you enter a hunt you can't use the camps to refill items. Probably also make it so that as they progress through the game players can earn more pouch spaces, larger stacks, and add new items to the infinite supply.
resource gathering between hunts has not made me make interesting choices or provided fun gameplay so I would be happy to see it axed.
like this is so vague. it seems like there is no longer a "ghost punch" demon dance (the world one where you get locked in the animation for ages) and its broken up in 3 stages but using it consumes gauge, but if you are in archdemon it also consumes gauge but also enhances it
also it doesnt say what archdemon enhances besides this one thing (like does it enhance demon dodge?)
that's also a shorter combo, maybe it's just Blade Dance but Worse?
yeah that's basically my stance
get a supply of ammo, and that's what you got for the hunt
from what we've seen, there's less of a distinct "not in a hunt" -> "in a hunt" transition. They've emphasized that the default way to start a quest is to go out and explore, then smack a monster in the field to start its quest
ye
shorter is better tho
not being animation locked is great
huh, so it's basically all free exploration now
also just tell us which actions archdemon enhances. dont say "some" pls
also question
does anyone know if we finally get a single release?
and we dont have to wait on pc like for rise and world?
yeah, they were promising that as of the original reveal trailer
kinda, yeah! one thread mentioned there still being a quest board in town, but they seem to be chasing seamless exploration
also still have not seen anything on dual weapon attacks right?
Then have a endless item box (sans items you haven't unlocked yet) and disable it once a quest starts.
idk that might be cheesable since you can go hit another monster starting its quest, do a bunch of damage to the monster you want to hunt, then abandon your first quest, restock, and go start the quest for the actual target monster with damage carrying over
Taken from reddit
some bits not in the list
".You can pause the game in singleplayer again!
. You can pick up traps
. Monster parts are viewable in the field on the fly for seeing if it has the part you need"
In Wilds, we can pick up the barrel bombs and THROW THEM AT THE MONSTER
Wonder if the Thunderbugs are related to Zinogre's
Likely a relative species
Thunderbugs were a thing before Zinny
also zinogre is fulgurbugs
I remember the great thunderbugs
They used to attack you in the ruined pinnacle of GenU
Are there those for the other weapons?
yeah!
