||just upgraded to Shagaru Magala weapons so i need to craft armor so i can make a good fit for them||
new fit
aight, doing pretty good for my skills, time for ||Gaismagorm||
||Used the Shagaru Magala DB||
RIP BOZO
we win these
first try too, i got down to one cart
||Gaismagorm sure as fuck LOOKS scarier than fucking Fatalis itself with its enormous stature and the burning demonic flames on its body, but sure enough Fatalis is far more dangerous||
guess i just need to hunt more monsters
the whole charm with fatalis is that it just looks like a dragon
I know I'm not the first to say this, but you could just take fatalis and put it in another game more easily than any other monster
they definitely tried to do the same with Safi'jiiva
which i actually hated
Safi is my least favourite monster design in the entire franchise
but i do know that a lot of people like it
Safi is very much a quintessential red fantasy dragon until you look closer
it apparently has a lot of bug features left over from Xeno'jiiva
I'll chalk that up to xeno'jiiva's super cool design
i get what they were going for with a big bug monster that pretends to be a normal dragon but both because it's Monster Hunter and because Xeno'jiiva was such a striking design, it does not work for me in any capacity
and you get to fight an ADULT ONE YOOOOOO and it's the dragon from shrek
Xeno'jiiva is just superior in every capacity
like in any other context it would work
even in another game i think it would work if you emphasized its bug nature a bit more
but in the Monster Hunter franchise and with Xeno'jiiva as its younger form
it just does not work for me at all
i genuinely do think it's one of the single worst monster designs
discounting frontier I might even agree honestly
MH's monster design is top notch across the board
Sapphire of the Emperor
Escaton Judgement is also a really cool one with a sick name
think it's supposed to be Eschaton but i've never seen it spelled like that
well see alatreon just kind of exploderizes
Eschaton is basically the day of gods judgement in the new testament which is a really cool thing to reference for an attack name
it doesn't have the je ne sais quoi that the sapphire has
which is why Sapphire of the Emperor is better
personally I wouldn't even rank escaton judgement on par with fatalis' white flame attack
the flying up, shooting down the fire until it becomes a thin beam, and then having a small star like orb fly down to become a enormous fucking explosion

it's such a fucking good reference to the Sapphire Star as well
the what?
The Sapphire Star
it's a lore thing
it's from The Tale of Five
basically a world creation story
I don't know that sorry
I believe it
apparently you can only access it if you didn't max upgrade your room so i can't
which is kinda, wack
tbh
lol
In world, you can talk to the steward to go back to earlier rooms.
I do think they kind of overtuned fatalis in world
also making it a dps check with hp and time
I've still yet to beat it ngl
This one goes out to all the Hunting Horn mains out there
I love what I do as an HH main. The melodic soldier smiles
Hammer mains, gotta love em
MISSION STATUS: SICK
all is right once more
friendship ended with monster hunter rise
did my 8th khezu hunt yesterday and still didn't get pale steak
desire sensor real
Khezu moment
it do be like that sometimes
i just need one for the gunlance 😭
i haven't gotten to rathalos in high rank yet so i don't think i've needed the tail
it's only a matter of time,,,
another thing i'm not looking forward to is hunting nargacuga again cause his fight was just kinda lame to me
maybe high rank gives him cooler moves idk
love fighting Rathian and Rathalos and getting poisoned and burned 100% of the time
using DB
but i'd need to be not on fire or dying of poison long enough to actually inflict parts breaking violence
they're a real tough wall early on, yeah
fighting gold and silver btw
the three flashbangs you get for MR are usually enough for me to tailcut one
was just annoying as shit to defeat them both
carted twice against gold
getting the reach seems like ass
they like to keep their tails pretty high up
yeah
bad enough for S&S, and at least that gets some good vertical
dbs' super horizontal moveset definitely sounds atrocious
i try to focus on spindashing it to get to the tail
makes sense
Is this world or rise?
World it's all about the wall bangs into tail cuts and otherwise you just go for the leggies
Rise
Oh, huh, should be pretty easy to bounce off their legs and goto town then
Yeah
That's why i said i just do the spindash and dly up to the tail
DB is surprisingly vertical with switch skills
It's insanely vertical, it's great
esp when you learn the launch has iframes
so you can do some really badass stuff with good timing
i have my new least favourite monster in the franchise
fuck flaming espinas
what an absoluty dogshit monster to fight
already not a big fan of having poison and fire on the same monster, adding a massive armor debuff does not make it more interesting to fight
new fit
Actual final boss
RIP to the Khezus
I'm a Nargacuga apparently
Zinogre here
yoooo represent
Wtf is this selection
Akantor without ukanlos??
Also I am teostra fuck.
Oh shit I read that wrong
ZINOGRE SWEEP
Oh no help i am a lighting wolf help
I'm a Royal Ludroth
Bummer, was hoping for a cooler leviathan
Like Mizutsune or Lagi
Ayy Kirin, such a weird fight
Kirin is one of the times the monster hunter camera doesn't work very well
Honestly I think he's just kinda a bad fight they've kept for legacy reasons
And it needs some more work and well, resizing
"three hit zones also I am tiny" is not it
Otoh I do appreciate the asthetics of "awwww, tiny unicorn.... dear Gods in heaven, what the fuck was that lighting"
I'm rajang which weirdly fits but now I'm upset that I'm not brachy
love getting stunlocked into an instakill combo by Malzeno
contrary to what the name might suggest, lynian meat is meat prepared by lynians
send this to me when it's done i beg of thee
Same! I briefly attempted something similar to that idea but only got as far as the Jyuratodus. (Jyuradotus? I always forget.)
jyuratodus, yeah
which portion of all monsters do you think would taste kind of like chicken, partially because you have to cook the shit out of it, partly because reptiles are known to taste kind of like chicken
I'd wonder about the same problems you get in real life, where apex predator meat is crap due to accumulated toxins etc
(because they eat the things that eat the grass/smaller animals, apex predators end up as something of a biological cesspool)
Biomagnification, also known as bioamplification or biological magnification, is the increase in concentration of a substance, e.g a pesticide, in the tissues of organisms at successively higher levels in a food chain. This increase can occur as a result of:
Persistence – where the substance cannot be broken down by environmental processes.
Foo...
Probably kulu ya ku
It is one of the more birdy bird wyverns
I'm betting a solid 80% of all wyverns
probably most -prey and minor wyverns, but the bigger they get the less they're gonna taste like chicken and they more they'll probably trend toward ostrich and alligator, though the hyper predators will probably kill you if you try to eat too much of them
anything that isn't explicitly predatory is probably a better bet
you want things that are eating plants and insects more than other monsters
wyvern meat is a known delicacy in the setting, but a lot of delicacies are meant to be eaten sparingly
don't eat the weirdos with esoteric diets, they're dealing with toxins your body won't even recognize
...where does Radobaan fall on that spectrum? Obligate osteophagy (osteovory?) is rare but not that esoteric, all things considered. I'd be worried about pathogens, and obviously it'd be some work to get to that meat, but I suspect it'd probably be fine?
Real question, actually: Barroth. They eat ants, primarily. I don't know if that'd lead to weird stuff accumulating in them, or not really? Probably not; ants literally have an acid named after them, but it probably wouldn't even sour Barroth meat.
...what does Tzitzi-ya-ku eat, actually? I've suddenly realized I have no idea. I'd assume eggs like the Kulu-ya-ku, but there isn't really a species in the Coral Highlands for them to reliably steal eggs from. Young Shamos, perhaps? That'd be plausible... but the fact that they give warning flashes with their horns imply they're more likely to be a defensive adaptation than an offensive one.
the real answer is probably "whatever they happen to be able to get their claws on" and sometimes that's a solitary shamos, and sometimes that's an egg, and sometimes that's a particularly slow wiggler, and sometimes that's part of some other predator's meal while they aren't looking.
I want to say it eats eggs from the little flying wyverns you can hitch a ride on, but maybe I'm thinking of paolumu
I thought Paolomu ate... maybe toads? Maybe the flying jellyfish? Tzitzi-ya-ku looks like an egg-eater.
Although probably less specialized than Kulu-Ya-Ku; it has teeth, for one thing, and not a beak. Although that discrepancy alone makes me wonder... are they actually closely related? Or are they totally different but with a similar enough appearance that they were given similar names?
The later, I think, which isn't enormously uncommon in monster hunter
To be fair, it isn't enormously uncommon in real life, either.
Paolomu eats eggs
And Tzi Tzi I think eats small animals and mainly uses its flashes for self defense
Aren't ostrich and alligator both reported to taste kind of like chicken though?
Hm hm
oh I meant the really weird shit, like Dodogama eating rocks, Gogmazios eating gunpowder, etc
For the purposes of this thought exercise, I am ignoring the question "is it safe to eat". I'm going from "is it physically edible" straight to "what would it be like"
And if I want to be more realistic, I'm sure even with the more toxic species, there's ways to go about it. Even pufferfish get eaten, after all.
🤔
I bet most of the Rotten Vale creatures would be too toxic to even eat
and Radobaan probably tastes like crude oil or tar
tfw I fucking die because the chef made a mistake when cutting out the seven (7) grams of edible Vaal Hazak meat
😭
It's probably not a good idea to eat the meat from most elder dragons
Especially the volatile elemental ones
Like Teostra, or Chameleos, or Kirin, and especially Vaal Hazak
especially the black dragons
Gog help you if you take a bite of Alatreon steak, or hell, Dire Miralis pot au feu
just a nibble of shagaru magala
Let's just not even get started on Fatalis
like that's just some norse myth level fuckupos
I'd eat Shara Ishvalda, I'm sure that would just give you crazy super powers
Or just drive you insane with knowing
Consider: spices
Just sprinkle a tiny bit of Shara Ishvalda on your popo burger it'll have you seeing undiscovered colors
You mean colors unlike any seen on Earth?
maybe uragaan is like a big crab if you manage to break off the outer shell
You can see its muscle tissue after a tail cut. I don’t know what that means but I think it would be more like mammalian tissue than arthropod tissue like crabs? I’m not sure, though.
Uragaan eats rocks and farts explosive gas and sleep spray
Idk if any meat from that is gonna be good
but they do work out a lot. Digging and burrowing in a hot, arid environment would make their meat quite tough, don'tcha think?
might be good for stews and braising
How do you think Jyuratodus would taste? I actually wrote up something claiming it'd taste somewhere between fish or meat, and I imagine it'd be a royal pain to prepare (you'd have to remove the skin and probably drain the blood, and an animal of that size has a lot of blood), but I'd image it'd probably end up something like... idk, maybe catfish? Maybe? Really, I have no idea, but something about it seems especially edible (with enough cleaning).
...filter feeders accumulate pollutants, but in the world of Monster Hunter, with less heavy industry, there's going to be many fewer toxins for them to accumulate, especially in terms of metals... I... think?
Also it's not a filter feeder, and I wasn't actually talking about filter feeders, and I have no idea what I was talking about but Jyuratodus aren't analagous to catfish either; they don't feed off of stuff in the muck. They hunt Aptonoth. You get to see them hunting Aptonoth.
Aptonoth are probably... not super tough meat; they live a pretty sedentary lifestyle, relatively speaking. I've never eaten turtle, although I know it technically is a food in some locations? But they'd probably be vaguely similar; they do lay eggs, after all. So probably just... chicken-like, honestly. At least in the same general direction.
Tobi-Kadachi? Skinning them would probably be annoying, because of the incidentally generated electric charges from the fur, and they have an electro sac... and their general body plan makes me think you wouldn't be able to necessarily get as much meat off one as you might expect? But there'd still be plenty, and probably pretty good eating, if you don't mind a bit of a gamey flavor. ...also not sure what they eat either, come to think of it. I'm assuming "generalist omnivore"? They have predatory adaptations, but also seem like, if times are tough, they'd be able to hang out in treetops and supplement their diet with plant matter.
Legiana is probably a delicacy precisely because of how bad eating they are? I feel like, between organs, fine membranes, horns, and skeleton, there just isn't going to be a ton of good meat on them (at least, relative to their size). ...this of course begs the question of organ meats, but, as delicious as those are, if we're worried about accumulated toxins, that would go double for organ meats (plus I think some of them are naturally toxic in real-life animals just due to having too much iron or stuff? I don't actually know.)
Aptonoth are definitely eaten in bulk, as the canteen has a bunch of meat ingredients made of aptnoth
Yeah. I also vaguely remember Gajau liver being an ingredient? Which implies that, despite their muddy habitats, there aren't a ton of toxins being incidentally ingested.
Helps that monhun world doesn't have a ton of industry leaking pollutants into their swamp
Gajau Liver and Gajau Gills are canteen items, yeah
We should call Capcom on the phone and tell them to change that
plus, I'd assume, like IRL Catfish, they taste good too
I love spread HBG with shield i love having an oversized shotgun parrying a fireball
👀 which HBG are you using?
In wolrd Great jaggras, in rise golm
ahhh nice
the golm HBG is a favorite of mine
big fuckhuge quadbarrelled shotgun
(but i play rise on switch so it's a buit clunky)
Small MonstersAptonoth: Their meat is nutritive, and given the ubiquity of these herbivores around Astera, they form the basis for many meals cooked by the Meowscular Chef. Notably, the meat carved from these Aptonoth are better than the ones in the Old World, due to feeding in the open areas...
anyway here's the rest of the writing about eating monsters
only for like base MHW's small monsters
"The foxy mama in green already knows the skinny. Ya dig?"

HUNTERS, WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK
oh man, already in the trailers there is so much to love
3d minimap
no more whiffing greatswords strikes/big bang attack/SAED
and the quality of everything OUGH
my ONLY gripe is that scoutflies are back and even then that's barely an issue
oh and the slinger is back too!
love that thang
Okay so now we know the stance change the GS did in the trailer was going in to Focus Mode, and that drawing the GS across the monster was a specific attack while in Focus Mode
Additionally we have confirmation of some kind of counter mechanic where hitting the monster with a specific attack/timing when they attack you allows a run in follow up
Whether this is universal or just GS remains to be seen as more trailers drop over the next week or so
The highlight feature probably left them room to make the wounds more subtle
Also looks like doing the Focus Attack clears the wound, so you may need to balance how many attacks you can land on it before going for the big hit to maximize damage
There's a bunch of interesting stuff in there.
It could also be a meter thing, where hitting the wound builds up to the big hit
I just wish there was still the tracking element
Feels strange not having to actually hunt down a monster
We'll see. There was tracking elements in world, you actually had to spend the time repeatedly hunting something until you just knew where it was
HBG reveal when ?
The tracking thing felt so whack in world
I hated the "you gotta gather tracks of X to unlock the hunt"
right now
Heavy Bowgun
A long-range weapon that fires ammo from a distance.
Expend energy in Ignition Mode to fire special ammo.
Energy regenerates over time and when you successfully land hits.
On top of the Auto-Guard function, you can also guard incoming attacks manually.

Poggers
So like wyvernheart is the gauge or all special ammunition (spread, piercing etc...) ?
The reticle seemed the same before they swapped to what I assume is wyvernsnipe or some other new form of special ammo so it's possible focus mode is just on by default when aiming with the HBG
That attack may also have been a focus attack since the wound on the head seems to disappear after, though it's hard to tell
wounds may also just disappear after taking enough damage even if not in focus mode, our knowledge of that is hardly specific 😅
maybe this will be the game where I finally figure out what I'm doing wrong with the bowguns. They seem really cool, but every time I tried to run them in World or Rise (base games) I felt like I was using a nerf gun.
Did you craft and then load the stronger ammo?
I couldn't bowgun in world since I play with mk and the change in button layout was just to much for me even with rebinding
Since you can bring 2 weapons to a hunt I assume a lot of people will
I think so? It's been a while, but I remember I was following guides trying to figure out what I was doing wrong
Remember the critical distance
Anyway time to pass out
I got school tomorrow
Well, uni, but still
Since they did GS and then HBG I wonder what'll be next. Those were the two used in the gameplay trailers before so perhaps it'll be LS and GL next since they were in the Focus Mode trailer.
does anyone remember what order the Rise weapon trailers came out in?
i wonder if they might use the same order, but i also might already be wrong
You're already wrong
I checked their channel
yeah same
They have a playlist and it looks like Bow was first
i hope you hunting horn players out there get done justice
Word is favorable for such
i used to be a hammer main so i respect the melodical flavor of bonk and take pity on what rise did to y'all
they turned it into a musical hammer that borrows from longsword
which isn't what a true hunting horn is 😔
Rise horn was still satisfying, but I missed the funky combos from world.
reportedly hunting horn is returning to how it was in world in wilds
YAYYYYY
new weapon type greater sword
great sword and great shield
great hbg
where do 3 and 4 go
Feet
bayonetta moment
to facilitate the larger maps in wilds, they're adding some new weapon types that can deal ranged damage, including great bowgun, long bowgun, bowgun and shield, dual bowgun, switch bowgun, charge bowgun, insect bowgun, hunting bowgun, gunbowgun and the return of medium bowgun from tri
I like the sound of insect bowgun. Does that launch one big kinsect or does it rapid fire a swarm of little ones?
depends on which type you use
Honestly tho, I would kill for a dual bowgun, with one in each hand akimbo style
where is my sword and hand crossbow bloodborne style
Only issue is bows fire modified javelins and bowguns fire mortar shells
You'd need a way to pack that much punch in a one handed weapon to make it worth the tradeoff
Hmm...
I wanna say they have break-action loading for regular bowgun ammo
And maybe a mode that like drains a resource like stamina or health in exchange for more damage OR ammo efficiency
Like you get a chance to not consume ammo with each shot
Idk. I just want dual bowgun
Would become slow firing but with the right powder mix it could hit hard, probably closer range but with a bit more mobility, could work. Though it'd likely fall more in a combo with a shield like the one SnS uses to have the free hand to load it
Ooh yeah definitely
Like a Gunlance with actual mobility
Slash stab shoot strafe
Similarly it'd probably do more explosive damage, thus bypassing weakspots and defense
Hopefully it doesn't go into the pitfall of the damage not Scaling with rank
I wish gunlances were good and their shelling not doodoo dogass
That or it's a skill issue on my end
I remember GL in Iceborne being good in MR
Though GL does change how it plays depending on the shell type and I was mainly fooling around with Long for funsies
Insect Glaive
A mobile weapon you use while controlling a creature known as a Kinsect.
Gain powerful buffs by harvesting extracts from monsters.
Vault into the air to perform jumping attacks at will.
Use Focus Mode to target a monster's wounds and weak points.
Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in 2025!...
fuck yeah
also a better look at the leviathan!
I PRAY FOR YOU LAGI
love the sound design of it
same
ohh I like how smooth the mounting looks in this. didnt show a lot about air juggling tho
my boy lagi... so close...
fuck, even if i don't get a lagiacrus
that leviathan right there looks super cool
i would be sad, but not devastated
because i'm anticipating some great ones
wat if shagaru magala was just a sort of pupal state and it molts into someting even cooler
order was different from both world and rise starting from #2
Hmm, the IG bug seems to mimic your swing arc direction
It also looks like it auto launches while in focus mode
hope we get some fucking wild collabs with Wilds
Wuk Lamat ends up in MH WIlds and we play as her for a hunt, Geralt style
bowser
Chain Chomp
godzilla
if they do another FF collab it needs to be with the real strongest mage in the franchise
donald duck
Wouldn't that be a KH collab?
it's like an egg quest, except the egg is trying to beat up the small monsters instead of the other way around
I meant as a large monster
like, disregarding that it's made of steel and via MH logic you'd need max sharpness to even hit it, the way they're known to bound and charge and bit (and bark) just seems like a fun fight to me

everything here looks incredible
more hop mobility
more wyrmstake and melee/cannon combos
some kind of fucked up gigaspin wyrmstake rapid-fire special attack
where you drill it in
i have a fucking forward smash now
god
the extra melee-cannon fusion moves
look so fucking good
Did... Did they turn the GL into a freaking mixer ?
Man focus mode, more like Animal cruelty mode
Holy shit it looks like they've finally made gunlance not feel so damn clunky to use
Also I realize, this frog gorilla monster implies that there Rajang or another of the ape skeleton monsters is likely to be in the game from the start
Oh no rajang is guaranteed it’s ape time
Think confirmed no?
Yeah I doubt it
We do get apparently combination attacks with both of your weapons
Where's that confirmed?
I vaguely remember it being mentioned in one of the interviews but shrug
If it is it'll be the last one we see a trailer for
Also they definitely expanded the GL move set quite a bit
New full burst follow ups and a quick reload after wyrmstake
I'll be honest so far the trailers hadn't hugely impressed me simply because I'm not that deep into analysing individual weapon motions but the GL one was very cool
Fair
My take on the trailers: looks good but much like world game performance is going to be a make or break at launch.
We'll see how focus mode pans out, it could be fun or it coulkd be one of those things that really hurts game flow, they took a gamble on that for sure. I hope it works out well and is fun
I'm optimistic for the most part, they have said the PC version is going to be natively developed rather than a port of the playstation deployment this time (one of the major issues with World was an instruction set mismatch). I think they have to go that way because at this point the vast majority of their playerbase is on PC, even Japan is like 30-40% PC players now.
I don't think we'll see another World launch disaster
Based on what we see being in Focus Mode has about the same move speed as when the weapon is normally drawn so it likely won't slow things down save for finding the wound to smack
Yeah. Hopefully we'll get a toggle control so it won't be too disruptive to hand position for movement.
Since the HBG was able to aim normally while in Focus Mode it would be weird if it wasn't a toggle
The whole system looks WAY better than the clutch claw but so does basically anything. The claw was a cool concept whose gameplay was almost universally hated, so at least they have clear feedback not to do that.
I like that they're taking a lot of the good from Rise, too, and clearly showing in a few places they're NOT keeping the full moveset changes.
It also looks like the Focus mode will be really good for new players
"everything is a counter weapon" was fun once
highlighting good places to hit etc
ya, that's also very true
while leaving room for experts to get their doom on
tbh, i will miss the Dual Blades counter and kinda want it to keep that
becuase well
it was awesome
(Look, i once countered a charging Diablos and landed while it crashed in a heap with it's tail flying off, and i've been chasign that high agian ever since)
Nice 😄
We all have a moment like that
ya, that's one of the great things about monster hunter 😄
In Iceborne I used the special sheathe counter to counter a Kirin lightening blast for the kill, it was awesome
Wanna see the video?
I'm hoping for a toggle too, but we'll see how it ends up working
I'm getting the impression that "focus mode" is like 90% a fancy term for "lock targeting to camera" and the rest is icing on the cake. Which I am absolutely fine with
But we'll see! It's early days yet
yeah, so far it's targeting=camera, highlight wounds, and a requirement to trigger wound-exploiting focus mode moves
speaking of crossovers they should bring to Wilds https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/1du4uw8/what_on_earth_is_capcom_thinking_this_is_the/?share_id=fFpyc2xDJ7JMIst7sDZhG&utm_content=2&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

Remember you being excited for horn in wilds
Buff zones, air guitar attack
And shockwave attacks 👀
what the fuck
they just
made hunting horn 200% hh
Focking buff zones
In the last third of the trailer is that a shockwave knockback?
At 0:57
It probably dies coincide with a flinch but still
But it looked like the shockwave travelled further beyond?
It could be a resonating effect sticking to the monster, but it could also be a traveling attack
Since it doesn't seem to stick to the impact point nor senter of mass I'm leaning towards the latter
HOORAY
PERFOMANCES ARE BACK
It does look like they kept that one move from Rise where you attached the Thread to the monster to send shockwaves to the connection point for the Focus Attack.
Which looks way sicker when it's a fucking guitar strum solo attack, let's be real
it's looking very nice
I guess there is pressure to making hunting horn good in this game in that a lot of people are going to think "well I have a second weapon slot and there's a weapon that I can use to apply buffs and then put it back on my horse" :p
Assuming the buffs persist between swaps
Plus buff duration could make it somewhat impractical if you don't use the weapon to some degree
Looks like a good evolution of World HH in a lot of ways
Cautiously optimistic! Looks like a step in the right direction
Looks like they largely removed the "blunt dual blades" feel and there's a bit more forethought into playing songs now so hopefully that gets expanded on a bit
🤩
Also way the hell more shockwaves
Killing monsters with the power of ROCK AND ROLL EPIC GUITAR SOLO
I fully expect the Bocchi solo to be modded in or I will be disappointed in us as a species
Does look like no echo attacks like in iceborne but the slightly faster attacking may help status/ele HHs

Oh wow they're adding variaton to the spirit combo
Also looks like the Iai attacks are going to be more like they were in World
The video specifically mentions that the LS gets strengthened attacks when in Red gauge so I'm wondering if that means the attacks we see after that are because the gauge is in red. Plus the Helmbreaker having a followup is cool.
Helmbreaker is now even more motivated
Hyped for db
Charge blade my beloved
I'm happy with LS, and now even more motivated not to fuck up Iai Spirit Slash to keep the level up
II really like that armor set, and the cobbled togther look of the metal parts
I am wondering of they gonna file on the focus mode colour or if it's colour inversion
The current colour on a red monster I imagine could be p tough to see
It's a fairly bright shade of glowing red so it might stand out considering most red monsters aren't that vibrant in coloration
I just hope they have optiosn for colorblind players
More than likely

I just managed to defeat Barioth for the first time in Iceborne, god that was an intense fight
Barioth is one hell of a fight
it's such a breakneck fight
He's a fucking wall in Iceborne. Very much "you did make a master rank set, right?"
A big tip for him is carry traps, trap him and go after his wings. They're easy to break and make him slip and fumble his jumps
least he flies less than in older games
yup 😅 literally lost by timing out against him, which i don't think i'd ever done before
Also, don't chase him. He likes to jump out then jump back at you, so he'll boomerang back
Chasing him just leads to Benny hill music
this also matches my memories
but we'll see! i'm only in HR on my PC restart right now
should be fighting Nergigante but i'm procrastinating by grinding out a bunch of gear because why shouldn't i main like four different weapons with 2-3 builds each
there's more than one weapon in monster hunter?
the rumors are true!
Yeah! Greatsword and DUal Blades!
That's it.
typical dual blades delusion
I have tow hands, i have two sords
and i have too many monster parts from all the mosnters i've ripped to threads
And to think in Wilds you'll have four swords. Maybe more.

Nice to see the chainsaw axe is back too
chainsaw axe was arguably more of a thing in rise
I rember it being more of a pain to activate in rise, or at least empahised less because of the way skills owrked out
(as in the switchbind skills)
but i am not a charge blade player
The thing that actually really sticks out to me? No panty shots. Small thing but a big thing
Huh, you're right
It's something i always hated in previous games
Though it is still a case of the female hunter having a battle dress whereas the guy has like more normal armor
For a solid second I was trying to figure out what kind of attack a "Panty Shot" was and if a lack of it on charge blades was a good thing or a bad thing
Counterpoint: They should go the DunMeshi route and exclusively give us panty shots from Masc armors.
Are we counting Kirin's assless chaps?
👀
My friend has been complaining about getting to see upskirt of his character constantly while fighting in Rise actually
He uses bow
?_?
When the CB does certain moves that cause the skirt of the dress to rise up to camera level you don't see what's up the skirt
Ye I got that
Extremely rad. also looks like the weapon and armor are from a spider (?) monster we haven't seen yet, which is kind of exciting
i quite like the crossguard on it
They look way more Moth-y than Spider-y
It could also be a bee or other pollinating insect with the flower theming
ooh, a new insectoid skeleton would be super cool
I assume it'd probably be coming from a temnoceran
but if it is some kind of moth, that might be a new body type!
or maybe some weird shagaru masala thievery
some kind of new spider or moth would be a good bet, a moth would be very cool but idk... they're pretty distinctly webs on that weapon and moths have silk but don't tend to make webs
a monster hunter moth could though i guess
yeah, I was thinking it looked more like a rakna-kadaki weapon
just off the webbiness
but I'd be down

I kinda hope it's a bee monster that summons smaller bee monsters so we can do the bee meme
I've been playing these games for over a decade, i usually play female characters because it's easier to make them androgynous in a way that suits my enbyness.
I really, really, really hate random sexulzaiton of characters, all the more so in games that have nothing to do with sexyness, and even more so when there's a massive double standard about it.
it's bad enough you get the "Full helm on guy, a few birts on the faces for the lasses" stuff, but having constnatly unequal shit like that, it's just really unpleasent background radiation
I misunderstood ahhh
I thought reverse and was bring dumbdumb aka "why is this gone" instead of "good its gone"
Sowwy sleep deprivation
Like, for contrast: Bayonetta doesnt bother me! I know exactly hwat i'm getting into when i play those games, and the sexualization is a chunk of how she's styled and presented. (And it's usually fun, empowering, though it's also very far from perfect).
But when it's say, World of Warcraft "This is a full plate on a guy and a bikini on the girl", it fucking sucks. At least in FF14 when they od it, it's every bit as slutty on hte guys. (usually)
Moths make silk! And the furry parts of the weapons speak much more to the fluff of a moth than the silk of a spider.
Seltas return would be dope
I wonder how much they'd actually have to change the skeleton of a flying wyvern to turn it into a moth
I did say that myself in the message you replied to yes
Signfianclty enough i htink a *moth inspired8 wyvern is way more likely
see Astalos being a draognfly wyvern
Also a lightning bug wyvern ba dum tch

May you be cut in half by a boltreaver astalos 😛

FUCK I'M LATE
😭
So, most interesitng there ist he grapplehook dash
which appears to be a version of the wirebug dash
"A weapon with good mobilty" damm
Probably leaning into that identiy to seperate it out further from the Greatsword
Wanna pull "Gotcha, ya blighter!" tricks? Greatsword.
Wanna zoop and boop? Hammer.
(Esp since Greatsword is sitll getting more mobile thanks to focus mode letting it turn while charging now)
Is that a counter/Parry at I think 0:41 or just an interruption/stagger
The armor makes me think it might be some kind of poisonous amphibian monster
Huh, so they gave Hammer the Brave Style dash by default, neat
Hard to tell since we've seen a couple moves that could be a counter or just an interrupt
plague doctor brain hammer is a surprise
i was just rewatching the other videos after the hammer showcase
and in the gunlance's i noticed that the shield has a white glow during its showcased guard point
and it also has that glow on the shield during one of the reloads and wyrmstake moves at the end
i think GL is going to be a fucking beast in this game
"BONK"
Hm, I wonder if that's going to be the case for all guard points, a visual indicator so you don't have to hear about them or feel them out
with all these extra tools all weapons are getting, I'm starting to expect SnS to gain the ability to draw your second weapon with your weapon drawn
SnS: the second S stands for switch axe
Concussions
Dual Blade showcase: there's three now
four
you strap an extra pair of DBs onto your feet
and then take a bunch of demondrug and ride the high
real ingame blackout mechanics
you lose 15 minutes of mission time and gain 4 free part breaks
LOL
for real though archdemon mode having you just go fucking apeshit with an extra pair of leg-mounted DBs would go hard
more stuff than the average hammer main /j /lh
i get that it's a joke but why would you specifically mention you're left-handed
😔
they always slack off on making left-handed hammers
Cause every Hunter is right-handed
even Shara's hammer is right-handed
left handed mode that gives you an advantage specifically against stonefist daimyo hermitaur
looking at the hammer video again it seems they are commiting a grievous sin
it looks like the female armour doesnt get the plague doctor mask 😔
what's even the point then.....
This is truly the worst damn thing in Monster Hunter
Gendered armor is so rough out there
it's 2025 wishlist now, time to let us choose per armor piece which one we want
I mean…we don’t know. Maybe the mask IS female exclusive which is also stupid why is the coolest possible mask gender exclusive either way
Gotta do the thinking fort the hammer users.
Monster Hunter is kinda weird with armor gender
Men get standard overwrought fantasy armor, women get combat skirts, thigh highs and heels
It's all over the place on wether you get that or not too 😦
And men also sometimes get Gundam Armor
But for me it's maaaaasks, they always just give 'em the Tiara version
it works for some looks but horf
Just give erryone a toggle
Hrm. If I was looking to play a monhun before Wilds came out, how do people rank Iceborn vs Sunbreak?
Massively different experiences
Iceborne is going to be more like what you get out of Wilds
Monster Hunter has two teams that work on it, and they do separate games.
Eg, we got World and Iceborne. Then that team has gone to work making Wilds, while the other team finished making Rise & Sunbreak.
Rise and Sunbreak are a lot more crazy, push things to the limits. A lot faster paced, a lot zanier in general
Yup yup. I finished both World and Rise basegame, so I've got a sense of their vibes.
I liked the Sunbreak endgame quite a lot, the qurio stuff ended up giving you totally ludicrous builds but it was also a fun game loop
I really want to see whatever monster this gear is from
It's cool that they're not just going with the basic iron and bone armor in these weapon previews
this is part of what i love about the odogaron armor
it still has the goofy thigh window, but both genders get the rad fucking demon mask
and the huge ponytail
everything about odogaron so cool.. world had really killer additions both monster/fashion wise
Odogaron is maybe my favorite monster? Such an interesting and kinetic fight with dual blades and especially with insect glaive because he has some of the few attacks you can reasonably jump over... I just feal like a matador (or a toreador? I'm not actually sure) when fight it.
I just enjoy that he's such a goofy mad dog about everything
Good little murder puppy
Love a monster that's sort of 'what if 'Insert Creature Here' was sooooo mad'
raging brachydios, furious rajang
Odor is cool
I kinda feel like it eats Zinogre and Magnamalo's lunches?
I feel like they all fill a thematic niche and Odogaron feels the most like an actual animal
Least 'anime hyperbeast' to borrow a term
both anime hyperbeast and realistic animal monsters do have their place in the series, ofc
But I don't think magnamalo would fit in world
^^^ exactly
same reason why I don't think Magnamalo is gonna return in Wilds
watch me eat my words when Apollo socks me in the face with the Gift Of Prophecy like a kickball
potentially? But idk how it'd fit in the muted color scheme of Wilds
and other factors too ofc
like the more emphasis on "Weird, but still grounded" creature design
I think post-game release/expac monsters are pretty fast and loose with the core games themes?
because lets be honest, Magnamalo is a samurai sabre cat with hellfire spewing out of its body. Its flashy and eye catching, but its not a realistic monster
I suppose so
with Iceborne getting Raging Brachy
and Worlds getting... Deviljho?
I mean, the pickle still fits the themes of World
I guess I'm mostly thinking the post game expac monsters
yeah
Like world/IB getting furious Jang, raging brachy,
heck, Rajang was a post launch monster too
so ig I can see where you're coming from
tho if I ever get to see Magnamalo again, it'll be too soon. Not because I hate his fight or theme or gear, they're all very good. Its just... well, he's overdesigned
anyway uh, I gtg for a bit. Got lunch to eat and a class in a few hours. We can continue the convo later if you'd like
my apologies
And then rise had a Japanese myth theme with yokai, and then sunbreak had the medival hammer horror vibe, and then post-game we get palette raths, invisible narga
Zingy works in World, but Mags doesnt
Mags is as Andy said, overdesigned
he breaks a lot of the rules of design that monster hunter has going on in bad ways
Lots of surperfulous spikes and horns that dont make al ot of biolgoical sense
like compare ZIngore - Zin's spikey back scales make sense, because they serve as hives for it's bugs
and because Zin gets predated upon by Amatsu, a flying creature
Mags is protrayed as basically just being a scavengerr
(and mosnter hutner is gneerally very good about fantastical but still biolgoically mosdtlym aking sense designs)
exactly! That's why it doesn't make sense why Magnamalo has all those spiky bits on him
and the Hellfire
goddddd the Hellfire
a lot of rise monsters follow that overdesigned animesque Magic Fantasy Beast paradigm
even the more down to earth ones are really pushing it, ngl
like I love Aknosom and Tetranodon, but they feel way too colourful for a monhun monster
and overly designed
Narwa/Ibushi, Magnamalo, Malzeno, gaismagorm, almudron
are the ones that i think of specifically
although malzeno less than the others
i think almudron could be adjusted pretty easily, but its presentation in rise tips it over imo
I personally like Gaismagorm a LOT, especially because of Unnatural History Channel's vid on it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlAcFVTd5NU
The two elders that steer the events of Sunbreak share a unique relationship with the parasitic qurio. But how did this come about and whatn impacts has it had on each host?

Kaijuking...
gaismagorm is super cool looking
i don't think the Anime Bullshit is bad in all cases
but it's a very wacky looking creature
even for an ED
oh of course, but there is a time in place for it
it does make me think of what environment exists under the monster hunter world that allows for such an elder to evolve like that
like, the sarcastic fringe mouth snout is definitely there to help in Qurio collection
and the big arm wing things make it excel at burrowing through rock
time to listen, then
yeah!
"the subterranean titans of an underground kingdom full of life" makes me want a total underground monhun game now
or the Wilds G-Rank DLC, if that's how they end up doing GR/MR again
oh yeah I hope at least the everwood/guiding lands of the eventual Wilds DLC is an underground paradise filled with monsters
and maybe there's a gaismagorm skeleton there
or a zorah magdaros shell in the background
I loved malz
And Almudron is a reall neat take on a water dragon
I also don't really get tetranodon begging to colorful, when I think it's much more naturalistic than somnacanth
It's just green?
So, the hellfire works for me, because "Weaponized rotting gasses" is cool
Yeah, dont agreeo n Tet being too coolforul
honestly, most of the Rise mosnters work just fine for me
i love Malz
He's great
Still need to do all the post game content and fight Primordial Malz sometime
Mags is the only one that sticks out to me as overdeisgned
He makes a lot of sense from the yoaki deisgn approach, but he still doenst feel quite right
Monsters i do fucking love in Rise though: GOSS HARAG.
GOSS SWEEP
Goss sweep, goss slash, goss smash
Goss swipe, goss bite, goss bash
wait does goss even have a bite attack
and oooooof this room is as cold as his breath augh
its making it difficult to type
Goss is such fun with pizza slice fire charge blade
Those iceblades are mad fire hit zones
I supppse so, but put it against other green monsters like rathian...
then again its very mossy
so maybe that's just a nitpick of mine ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Oh hey not transforming into sword mode after AED and continuing combo?

🎯 Light Bowgun 🎯
Let loose with the highly mobile and versatile Light Bowgun. Successfully land hits to build Rapid Fire energy, then unleash multiple shots in quick succession!
Aim for the monster's weak points and launch an explosive mine for booming damage!
Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in 2025...
FRESH OF OUT OF THE OVEN
ye that the focus one
the drum magazine fucks
the explodo-beacon
whatever that's called
the ammo they used with it was single-shot
also yeah the drum mag fucks
100%
wyvern mine or something?
but there was so much burst fire with the non special shots. i kinda really like it
looks like they wanna make it even more distinct opposed to hbg
yeah, and we haven't even scratched the surface
according to the dev team, the bowguns are the most drastically changed weapons in Wilds
👀
and considering what we've seen on the Gunlance...
honestly i really hope db gets some bigger changes aswell
I wanna play swaxe this game aswell
and the fucking buff zone hunting horn with ranged shockwave attacks
the Weapon Use Priority for me is sns -> gl -> cb/db/lbg
I just dont wanna have world dbs where its just spam demon mode and do clutch claw attack and beyblade whenever possible button mash
and then swaxe/hammer/ig for the "don't really play but sometimes" bottom tier
ye
I'd also like to see sns stuff that disincentives perfect rush spam without just nerfing it
yeeeee
bc IB sns was mostly Perfect Rush x1000
yeppers
for me its prob db -> swaxe/gl -> sns/bow/cb
i really wanna actually play and learn gl i think
it looks really cool in wilds
I am most whlemed so far i think by Greatsword
i played i always a lot but i dunno
compared to all the trailers it looks kinda the most stale i think
yeah wilds gl looks so fucking incredible
I'm hoping GS has some more new tech that hasn't been displayed
but I bounced off it pretty hard, so I wouldn't personally be hit by a lack of attention
just, y'know
yeee
would feel bad
i am also looking forward to bow
my biggest concern atm with the weapon swapping for me is for mouse and keyboard like me
cause historically the controls are very different
and icannot imagine something more painful then switching control schemes mid hunt
since even stuff like menu buttons change between ranged and melee
oh, kbm does not seem like it'd be a good time, no
so i pray for mroe even control schemes. you can rebind but its just a pain
for swaxe tho
i think it would be really dope to have the focus attack be a transformation while the axe is stuck in the monster
What do you think DB needs that you want to see it changed?
Honestly I dont even know if i can fully articulate that. I would like maybe for archdemon mode to be more important and not just to be better stage in between recovering stamina for demon mode, maybe more distinct combo routes with worthwhile finishers at the end. I could see like mini counters maybe. not like the big counters like longsword but some sort of moves with extended evade windows and maybe a move follow up to evading successfully (liek a blade/drill dash or something)
but again I am not even sure I know what i think it needs until i play/see. I just would like for its playstyle to be more distinct and less super streamlined then i think it is atm
LBG and HBG sharing a system for energy for special ammo is pretty cool
one thing i'm curious about is--in World (and maybe Rise but i haven't played nearly as much of it), the specific types of ammo a LBG rapid-fires is definitive of that particular LBG's identity. like it might be able to fire a few different types of status/elemental ammo, but these specific ones will get more bang for your buck, so to speak 😛
so if i'm understanding right that Wilds LBGs can rapid-fire any ammo type, how does that differentiation get maintained? are LBGs going to have fewer ammo types available each? is there some other system at play that's not visible in the trailer?
to be clear this is not a criticism, because MonHun is consistently pretty good at making the choices between weapons mean meaningful. just curious what it's going to look like in this case
It wouldnt surpise me if they're trying to clean the ammo system up
it's been a consitent pain and ocnfusion poitn for a while
...ugh
I wanna play World but I don't wanna wait for it to download
This sucks
...wait
I still have it downloaded on my laptop
Crisis averted
I wonder if they'll keep that all the ammos will need to be crafted
I could see them doing away with crafting "normal" ammo (standard, pierce, spread, elemental) and maybe status ammo, but I don't know how they'd balance unlimited sticky or cluster
Cooldowns I guess? Huge energy costs?
There's a bunch of ways you can tackle it, including just limited/quest, or limited/life/camp equiv
That's true. I guess what I mean is that none of the other weapons have something like that, so it'd feel like a big diversion
Portable 3rd had so many goofy bowgun designs
true!
god I love that the tank returned in rise/sunbreak
god I hate you Rex Fusillade I
please.
meanwhile lance mains: they'll come, eventually, they always do
🫡 and we will welcome them with open arms
lANCE MAINS MAINLY COME AT NIGHT. mAINLY.
auto guard AND manual guard
both bowguns have an Energy system for special alt-fires now
all the ordnance weapons so far fucking ball
lbg has mortar or grenade shots for a couple attacks
and seems to be almost entirely rapid otherwise
👀

O...
fuck yeah, swsh time
woah rathalos confirmed????
hmm
nothing super new here
other than more confirmation that every shield weapon is getting guard points
Sort of to be expected with S&S, I feel
those shield bashes do look the closest you can get to just personally decking a monster in the snout
the first focus attack is also using one of the backstep attacks from previous games
also the rathalos female armor looks really cool
altho it might've always been like that
specifically, the charged swing -> falling shield bash
that rath armor doesn't look new to me
the visor is a bit lower down than in previous games
Is that slide attack new after the shield bashes at 0:15?
and the greaves actually fucking cover some of the leg this time
but seems like standard fem los otherwise
no
wouldn't it be cool if we got some non boring male rathian armor this time around
well
The last attack ender looked dope
it's a little bit different
Liking using focus mode to aim and leap into the shield slammer
it looks like it's using a slide animation similar to CB's sns combo
as opposed to its old one
but that's minor animation differences as per normal
i liked the old falling bash input
because of how spammable it is
but we'll see what it gets in its moveset instead of that backstep follow-up
i hope perfect rush still exists
but isn't as singularly insane as in IB
it kinda disappointed me in rise
personally i think rathalos armor is both a classic and really good already
the only thing I'd change looks to be changed here, in giving the female rathian armor something to cover the thighs with
move the exposed thigh to rathian armor, both sexes
rathian jock strap
rathian jock strap
it always irked me that rathian f gets the way cool plated gown, and rathian m gets runescape steel plate with some green shit stapled on
oh, i never liked the plated gown either lmao
i always thought it made the toons look like a beetle
i fuckin love it
this is a cool attack
wish the regal theme carried into the male half though
or even into the full rath line
seeing that perfect rush seems to be a focus attack, i'm really wondering how focus mode works
the specifics, that is
ooh
desperately hoping it's a real move
yeah, it's nice to see that we'll probably have some sort of fire monster in the game
mhm! Hopefully its rathian
My guess is that it's a button you press and hold, stance style
that is a pretty damn good looking rathalos sword, yeah
love the texture on the holes
and the fire fx
yeah its very pretty
i hope it means we'll get those same fucking rad elemental fx for lightning & ice and the others
and on all weapons
while we're looking at weapons
godddd the basic weapons look SO fancy
at least I assume they are
scratches on the bayonet
and the GL looks like a cowbow armament
yeah the gunlance looks gorgeous
oh, i would bet that this is from one of the early monsters
the fricking flintlocke
not a standard Iron/etc. weapon
maybe yeah
so maybe it is a metal tree gunlance
👀
i also noticed the charge blade looking ornate as fuck
what a gorgeous shield too
it has webbings!
so it probably comes from a temnoceran
Dynamic, crushing potential. The Charge Blade weaves together an empowered sword and stout shield to make up a mighty axe. Charge it up in sword mode, then unleash devastating attacks in axe mode. #MHRise
"Counter Peak Performance" is a silkbind attack that readies your shield for incoming attacks; getting hit fills your phials to maximum, prim...
which would make sense
yep yep, that's the current assumption
look at this
the CB trailer for rise has another temnoceran as the gear
are you catching up on all the videos rn?
nah I just skimmed through most of them
so I'm rewatching all of them
ah
can't get a good shot of the shield in shield mode
AND i love the hairstyle on the hunter
finally. a black hairstyle that isn't a killmonger cut
also the chatacabra helmets a mask
